um I just want to let you know why I
started this YouTube channel all right
I'll talk about this speaker in a while
right uh actually I started this channel
not because of high-fi okay I want to
have a platform for me to promote to do
marketing for my real estate because I'm
a real estate agent here in Singapore
and the other thing is uh so that I can
have a record on all my videos right and
the first video that actually get my
high-fi video going was the video on the
Yamaha advantage a2a in that video
actually explain to to you guys why I
choose that uh AV receiver right so
um and I don't see myself as a
professional rwer reviewer right um
there are many many reviewer do much
better job than me all right so for
example there's one uh reviewer and I
hope that you can subscribe to her
channel to her Channel um we do not have
any connection and don't think she know
that I exist right this is I think a
channel is called the potato Fire review
all right uh a lady in the US and um her
channel was growing very well about I
think she hit hit a thousand and above
in a very short time but recently when I
go back to her Channel I'm her
subscriber I find that her subscriber
base suddenly become like less than 200
so she mentioned that I think YouTube
deleted her Channel I don't know what
happened right so that's not important
um she really putting a lot of effort
and uh she's of course she's not as
famous as those Steve Gutenberg dco that
kind of thing right Thomas but if you
want to have professional review
she should her channel should be the one
that you should view for me I'm more on
uh talking about the product I bought
myself as a consumer right as an average
Joe all right so today uh I'm talk about
this BMW um this is not the latest the
S3 version the latest is the S3 and I
bought this uh S2 okay um I got this S2
all right uh I can just tell you the
reason why all right maybe you want to
go for look for other video so I tell
the reason why first
um the one video that actually affected
my decision was uh this video by also
one of my favorite reviewer I I hope I
pronounce his name properly this Tama is
it yeah I sorry if I pronounce it
wrongly and he's an Asian guy I think
residing in the US so he was reviewing
the bookshelf version the 706
706
S3 yeah S3 and he mentioned that uh what
was so attractive about the 706 S2 which
he had he has
personally um
was uh compared to the S two right the
S3 is no longer that fun right I think
uh BMW actually trick the sound to give
it a more Fuller more warmer of course
not as warm as like other brand but but
warmer than the S2 version right S2 has
a lot of Sparkle kind of thing and I'm
the I'm one of those listener that I
need a lot of
sparer and I find it's more exciting
right than a very warm speaker very warm m
m
and that's why I choose the S2 and
reason um from the S3 onwards right
whether is it uh 703 or 76 right
the price has actually increased quite a
lot I think really really big increase
right um you know I reviewed the CF um
uh R3 meta right R3 meta
yeah before I bought a CF I was
considering uh the 7
703 the 703 is something like that but
you have the trater on top right the
with the TU trater on top um at the time
that was
um it was launched not long um I think
the supplier distributor in Singapore in
fact the distributor to find the
distributor was so very difficult right
I actually went through a lot to find
out the distributor here and I was offered
offered
$6,900 for one pair later I think it
increased to um I think $12,000
something no yeah I think it's very
close to 10,000 something like that yeah so
so
so uh I think it's Way
Beyond more than what I want to pay for
okay so that's that's it now I'm going
to talk about this uh uh the speaker itself
itself
um for this speaker I is very hard to
for me to describe to you just to tell
you about the sound alone all right
because when you're listening to this
speaker right it's no longer
about um The High Frequency the mid base
the base the mid-range right the vocal
of course speaker being speaker is still
do this kind of
thing for the um right I'm going to
compare this with the AR meta although
although this is a fla standard that is
a bookshelf I will take into
consideration especially the base
different I'm not going to compare so
much on the base right I'm going to
compare on the sound staging and how it
make me feel
um for the AR meta
that was a very outstanding figure
because um it's uh detail is clear
although it doesn't have the sparer like
BMW so and when I say these sparkers I
know some of you who um not so f with
bnw you're going to say that oh they are
very sharp but right now I can tell you
that it's not sharp right um if the
speaker is sharp because of M is not in
Synergy all right we are talking about
highi system it had to be a system they
have to work together right they must
compliment each other it's like husband
and wife they have to complement
complement each other then you can have
a happy marriage so same for the speaker and
and
amplifier if you think that U uh your
the bmd is very very sharp then I think
uh you should get a different M right
okay so for the AR meta I come back to AR
AR
meta I in that review you can look at
the video uh of the review I describe it
as is um you know very holographic the
biggest strength is a 3D uh the depth of
the sth stage rather uh more than the
the width so this is a bit opposite but
for that I can use some adjective to
describe it as an
Clarity know the vocer very good how the
female vocer how can hear the lips
smacking know uh splitting not splitting
I mean the top and the bottom lips you
you part ways right and then come
together yeah those you can hear because
detail and you also have rather good
base and if you have a suitable M and I
managed to hear that with uh Cambridge
audio Evo
150 and they actually bring out more
sparer then my Den then this guy the PMA
A110 that I'm having now so for that
speaker AR matter I can use that kind of
word to
describe but we will come to this guys I
think it's no longer talking about the
sound uh how it sound sound like of
course for a video I need to tell you a
bit about how it sound okay I think the
best part is the many people will
complain about the sharpness of this and
how thin they
sound uh of this treater but for me the
the strength is the treater I love the
treater because
um super high resolution
Brilliance the Sparkle is
absolutely uh
beautiful for example I hear I listen to
this song uh it's not through a very
good source it's not through those high
red Source or CD super audio CD is from
the F10 radio and the area that I'm
staying it's very hard for me to get a
perfect uh lock on to the
signal um I think someone told me
because there's a uh Air Force the the
air based nearby they have this huge hot
air balloon that is like a radar thing
right I'm not I'm not sure if that's the
reason so listening to that and
listening to odies Chinese old
right and this song they constantly have
this hitting of the triangle thing thing
thing with this speaker it's not about
the sound reaching my ear it's the sound
going around and from the
back front go to the back and then come
to my ear so every time hit the the
triangle the thinging thing the sound is
like wow it's like someone hitting the
thinging thing right beside me it's not
sharp it's just very sweet and very
comfortable and to the point that
actually a bit um you know hypnotizing
you can fall asleep that's so good
and because of uh so much emphasis on
the on the trater right and I
think um what people Miss is actually
the mbase this woofer the mbase uh mean the
the
mid-range so hearing this speaker is no
longer about hearing sound
quality when you hear the good speaker
we of course emphasize on the sound
quality then just like in my previous
review I say how the sound is
like but when you hear this speaker it's
totally different it's not
about uh all right for the AR meta is I
told you I told you that um it costus me
to TAP my feet right and well like the
music the music the musical note is
floating in the air the sort of
things but for when you listen to
this it's like the now the speaker is
communicating with me and it's not just
to my ear it's more like the music
actually is speaking to my soul yeah I
mean sound a bit eerie but yeah it's
about communicating with the soul all
right if the AR meta can cost me to tap
my feet my feel that dancing that kind of
of
thing listening to this uh
BMW you are more in touch with your soul
more in touch with the sentimental side
of person right um it's no longer been
so technical you know AR meta yes you
know I think even other reviewers say
that oh they can actually pinpoint the
position of the position of the musician
right um I have never really seen in a
in a real recording studio so I do not
know how they
record some of them is individual
individual uh um maybe recording room
for the individual instrument um the one
that I saw was uh the V Vista Social
Club they have I me talking about the
video so they have seen about the
recording so everyone playing together
like a light band then they do the
recording all right so you that kind of
thing you can estimate or where the
magician is but for
this you no long you forget about all
this this become very immature
become like child play I'm sorry I'm not
insulting anyone it's more like a child
play when you listen to to this speaker
right when I listen to odies I I I told
you I like to listen to Chinese odies I
recorded in the late 50s 60s '70s
yeah so when I listen to this right it
cause my mind to wonder off do we even
start to think you know those Chinese
odies are singing about love you know
how uh uh the the lyrics is totally
different from nowadays nowadays
especially sing Listen to those western
music right uh we talk about making love
right having sex like of thing some of
them then kissing all this but for
Chinese culture we are more conservative
especially in the 50 60s right so you
talk about right some one of example one
of song talk about how he feel about a
girl and and uh how he want to arrange
himself to sort of bum into her and then
U give her roses kind of
thing some I listen to to when it's play
to the BMW and through my uh this uh PMA
A110 or even to my new new old Yamaha
receiver AB
receiver the music start to and the
lyrics right start to speak to your soul
and start to imagine all right wow um
how do people in that era where the song
was written how do they see things right
how do they dress but suddenly I can
picture like I have a picture of my late
father I know last time you know wear
the bell bottom and very high boots I
wear that too I wore that too when I was
a kid right that's how I think there was
a fashion then in
the uh early 80s early ' 80s and late 70s
70s
so it communicate to my soul and I start
to imagine right I can't help it
but your soul and your whole mind is so
led by the music by the song by the
lyrics by the story of the music rather
than the quality of the music the
technicality of the music it's about you
totally being drawn into the music and
being transported to the
era all right I think a good speaker is
not about just giving you the quality of
the sound the technical you know what
kind of treater is a metod treater or a
fabric treater know what kind of man
what kind of motor
driver is no longer dead a good speaker
will convey the intention of the
songwriter right we always talk about
the singer the singer but the songwriter
is the the soul all right so it's expect
to my my conscience I start of sort of
like transported to the era I can see
know how people being so shy and yet
they want to know each other know and
and then there are some songs uh you got
a shock a actually they are not so
conservative they are even more ding
than than people in our era right you
start to see the
story it's no longer telling you uh I
think a good speaker like the K R3 meta
and maybe other speaker will let you
hear like you know people as I said for
let you hear the lips how the breathing
you know that kind of thing some people
say you can hear the air all right but for
for
this this guy
here this guy doesn't bother with those
thing to th those things to this
guy just
imature right you don't even want to
bother with those things he can do he
can do it can do those thing but it
don't bother those things it's more on
conveying the spirit I mean the meaning
of the song so much so I start I start
to be transported into for if I
listening to a 60 song I've Been
transported to the 60s you know uh of
course I won't P yet those are from uh
videos and then I can remember some some
of the song actually caus me to to
remember to see something that I saw as
a kid all right about how my mom my my
father my parent brought me to certain
places in Singapore where they are no
longer exist because Singapore is so
small they always read
development you know um I was like this
tall right so I start to see things from
that hiy that
perspective people um I'm I know that
I'm getting emotional exactly exactly
this speaker caus you to be emotional
rather than cause you to listen to the
the the mid base the base how the base
and all that the kind of thing The Sound
Stage please please please those thing
are good those thing are not not that
they are no good right of course you pay
for a pair speaker those thing are good
but when you listen to this speaker is
things it's like you graduated
yeah I'm sorry that I am not well
educated I can't really
use uh English to Express the fullest of
how I feel but from my emotion I think
you can hear how I feel but it's
emotional listen to this speak emotional
you so there's a Chinese o
this that is the
95.8 Singapore FM radio when I listen to
the class 95 or the go
95 I think it's class 95 go95 so they
play English song uh western song from
the '
80s uh uh' 70s right I think 70s to to
the '90s wow
wow
people I'm sorry I had to get a drink um
because I I think I'm so over excited
right too excited about this I get a
drink to to smooth my throat so
listening to those uh western song
English song uh old this also consider o
this you know the Eraser ER IRAs
um uh ships of f um those songs and level
level

talking right I I don't know whether you
you know them and listen to CC catch
from Germany Heartbreak Hotel memories
memories
memories it's not about working down the
memory lane it's been transported it's
like you know Back to the Future they
have this car called the DeLorean right
I yeah I think it's called Doran
DeLorean this is like the car right like
the car the back to Future car The Time
Machine car yeah it's no longer no
longer I know some of the speaker can do
a lot of Bas think wow the sound very uh warm
warm
okay never mind okay I'm sorry I'm sorry
let's forget about that
so if you
are if you have never owned a pair of
BMW if you
never listen to it extensively and never
pair with a correct pair of
amplifier um I think from now we can
stop saying that it's
sharp is People Like Us will put my my
money where my mouth is right who really
really invest with whole cash whole cart
cash then we have the right to say that this
this
guy can give you a real verdict of the
the the speaker just like some people
say that oh those $5,000 speaker cable they
they
useless I don't know for me I don't know
because I will never ever spend $5,000
on those C and I don't even have I will
never ever own that kind of the standard
of quality of the equipment that can
take advantage of the $5,000,000 cable
and doesn't mean I cannot afford them I
need to be sour grip and say that they
they are useless because I will never
get a chance to listen to them so how
can I say that they are useless right
doesn't mean you cannot afford it it
means it's no good right I think need to
grow out on that so for the
speaker this is the S2 supposedly to be
sharp and thin and cold sounding no no
no it's not it's not yes compared to the
R3 meta compared to PMC uh even the
quad this will appear as more lean
sounding but it's because you're
comparing to those are super warm right
um right so it's too extreme but by
itself I tell you especially the base
you talk about speed right well this
this guy the base right is fast
definition so totally I never ever own a
pair of speaker that sound this way that
give move me like
that H yeah so
um uh yes it's costly I mean not not
talking about the S3 version is over too
much so for this um it's costly but I
think it's worth every
all right if you have a proper amplifier
but let's
say I think highi is not about spending
more and more money
um right so let's say you you are um you
don't have a really good M or powerful M
because I think my Denon 8 wat it can
drive it to the potential of
maybe 75 or
80% okay um if I
would change the M I'll change it to
maybe more than 100 watt maybe 120 watt
at least to to drive these
guys this is 80 wat uh if you have a 50
wat M and a good uh power supply that
high current I think you can also drive
this speaker all right but of course
it's not
about giving it an audio signal and then
you have sound right you want to have
sound coming up from this BMW any I
think even buy a very maybe a $300 AV
receiver you can do it too right they no
problem causing it to produce s but when
you buy discount speaker you want
to try to drive it to as much to its
potential as possible
possible
okay so I'm sorry today I'm not going to
talk about how the voer that kind of
thing I'm then telling you how we convey
the message of the song The Spirit the
meaning of the song to The Listener this
is what I want to tell you if that's the
only takeaway this is the takeaway okay
uh um of course now I'm more excited um
more interested to try out the one with
the streer on top but I don't think I
can I'll be able to uh buy it or to
spend that kind of money anytime soon uh
unless until I I bought buy another
property right there more conducive uh
uh maybe a special room for me to put my
highi a real Listening Room as you can
see it's so close the wall some people
ask me to move away move
away if I can I know you to tell me that
this is very simple thing but I can't
right that's a limitation of I just
doing I think just like most of us we
just do our best right because there are
other people living in this house highi
is not the first thing the
harmony the standard of living the
quality of living is more important
important at high five okay all right so
