today we're surrounded by an endless
loop of Trends and ads every swipe every
scroll there's something new a musthave
accessory and just like that we're being
bombarded with things that promise to
make us happier healthier and more in
but have you really become happier
welcome to consumerism the never-ending
cycle of buy more want more have more
where it's no longer just about meeting
our needs but creating desires we never
even knew we had why do we suddenly feel
we need that one item that specific
color or a trendy accessory it doesn't
just happen by chance when the Barbie
movie came out pink suddenly became the
color of the Season every other
influencer was grabbing pink colored
outfits and accessories they may only
wear once or the Stanley Cup a simple
water bottle that people waited in line
for and paid double the price online all
just to say they own one in the US an
average person spends $188,000 each year
on things that aren't essential that's nearly
nearly
$1,500 a month that could go toward
something more meaningful but instead
it's invested in things that sit unused
in storage units or end up discarded the
world is on track to reach 5.6 billion
consumers by 2030 people who for the
first time have the ability to buy
beyond their basic needs on the surface
it's a positive shift after all more
people can enjoy life's Comforts but
with this rise comes a massive demand
demand for resources a demand we can
barely keep up with and if everyone on
Earth consumed like the average
Westerner we'd need over five planets to
sustain us in reality we're already
using resources equivalent to 1.75
Earths but what about sustainable
consumption isn't buying products that
are made eco-friendly a solution it's a
comforting idea but the truth is that
even sustainable labels often Mass the
bigger problem as long as we continue to
overc consume the outcome Remains the
Same waste and brands that promote
sustainable options rarely admit their
role in encouraging us to buy more
instead they shift the responsibility
onto US making us believe it's our fault
for not being conscious consumers while
they continue to pump out hundreds of
new trends and sustainable lines that
feed the exact same cycle in the us
alone over 11 million tons of clothing
are discarded every year that's about
85% of all textiles ending up in
landfills and it's not just clothing
Americans generate over four pounds of
waste per person per day and we're
running out of space to store it all 25%
of Americans now rent storage units just
to house things they barely use this
constant churn of products generates
millions of tons of waste every year
from Electronics to packaging HomeGoods
and more much of this ends up peeling in
landfills where it leeches harmful
chemicals and microplastics and
eventually making its way back into our
food chain so how do we end this the
first thing is to start questioning what
you truly need instead of jumping from
one Trend to another focus on quality
items that serve the intention and stand
the test of time and for the products
that you already own the answer is
simple use them repair what's broken
repurpose what's forgotten and recycle
what you can at ecoc creds we're making
the ladder more transparent and
rewarding for you we're creating a
system where every piece of plastic
waste you recycle is completely managed
verifiable and traceable on the
blockchain so you can see exactly where
you're making an impact follow at EOC
