so we have the DJI Mike mini we'll see
how good the Bluetooth is and I don't
know if it's uh if it's going to connect
but this is going to be crazy if it
connects via Bluetooth that is going to
be awesome so for the past few weeks
I've been using this right here the
allnew DJI Mike mini pretty much
alongside this guy the DJI Mike 2 I've
been putting the Mike mini through its
Paces using it from everything from just
personal vlogging doing a lot of range
tests also hooking this up to my
daughter when she's doing a play at her
school also when I was on site with a
client I also used the mik mini and I
definitely learned a lot of things with
the mik mini especially in comparison to
the DJI mic 2 so in this video of course
let's go through all of the new features
and advantages and talk about some of
the shortcomings when comparing it to
the DJI Mike 2 first and foremost let's
get some of the main stuff out of the
way which is pretty obvious Mike mini
comes in about less than half the size
and weight of the DJI Mike 2 of course
with that size difference one of the
biggest advantages of the mik mini is
hooking it up to your talent or hooking
it up to your shirt you don't have a
heavier mic like the mic 2 which weighs
about 28 G the mic mini comes in at only
10 G also has that little small M has a
mini magnet on the back so you can hook
it up to your chest just like this and
you're able to have this thing on your
talent and of course like I said it
doesn't pull your shirt down as much as
some of the heavier mics now I like to
wear black shirts a lot so of course
this matches my black shirt but if you
are wearing white this right here they
have the mic mini in what they call the
arctic white so here are the two
different colors for the mic mini when
it come out to microphones we have
built-in mics here at the very top of
the mic mini as well as of course the
DJI mic 2 the one thing that you will
notice here on the very top of the mic
mini versus the DJI mic 2 is that there
is no port for you to hook up a wired
mic so if you wanted to use something
like a lavalier mic like you can on the
DJI mic 2 you're not able to do that on
the mic mini next about range and this
was something that actually really
surprised me the range on the Mike mini
rated for 400 m in distance lineup site
where the DJI Mike 2 is rated for 250 M
all right now I am hooked up to the DJI
action 5 via Bluetooth so we have the
DJI Mike mini in the same location here
in downtown Petco Park and I'm going to
do the same thing I'm going to have my
back to the microphone and back to the
camera we'll see how good the Bluetooth
is right now I'm just handholding the
mic and we'll just head down here I'm
going to try to continue talking as I do
this video right now I'm facing the
camera so this should be good to go now
let's turn my
back testing
one camera now facing the camera how
does the audio sound testing 1 2 3 4 5
remember this is Bluetooth so I don't
know if this is going to have any range
do you see do you see the bars moving
the bars are moving all right so the
bars are moving my back
isera I moving now but we'll see all the
way again to
stage now I am facing the camera way
over here and I don't know if it's uh if
it's going to connect but this is going
to be crazy if it connects via Bluetooth
that is going to be awesome but turning
my to the camera testing 134 1345 how
does the audio sound and let's work our
way
back that would be awesome if uh this
thing does work at that distance with
Bluetooth
and see if we have any cutouts so coming
back up how does the audio sound coming
from this little tiny guy hooked up to
that right there which you're seeing is
a DJI action 5 Pro all right so the DJI
mik or Mike mini is H up to the action
and I think this is where you're going
to see a lot of benefit if you are just
trying to keep things nice and simple
using an action
camera and you want crispy audio and you
want to get that camera away from you
how does the audio sound SD sign in the
background represent we are here in San
Diego of course but this is what it
looks like and this is what it sounds
like if you're just going to walk and
Vlog with a wireless system definitely
going to have a lot better audio
compared to the onboard audio here so
how does the audio sound testing 1 two 3
4 5 this is the audio coming from the
DJI Mike mini hooked up via Bluetooth
with the doggy right here hooked up VI a
Bluetooth to the DJI action 5 how does
the audio sound we are on the
boardwalk over in the Harbor Marina
District over in San Diego downtown and
with my son I'm going to actually mount
it to the B botom of his helmet one on
her chest right
there I'm going slow wa this is so
fast now one thing I didn't notice on
the Mike mini which I actually really
like is that they did change how you
sink it
now on the mic 2os you'll normally have
to press and hold to get a green light
for you to sink it to the actual
receiver and then if you're going
Bluetooth you have to press and hold it
wait for the blue light now when you
sync it up which I like press and hold
the linking button on the mic mini press
and hold the linking button on the
receiver and it'll automatically switch
between the Bluetooth and the standard
connection
so that you don't have to pick one of
the other it will automatically find it
so once you have linking turned on on
both of the uh devices then they'll find
each other and I really like that
because then it takes out the guess
workor of how to link them up so that's
something I noticed on the mic mini that
I hope they bring over to the DJI mic 2
on one side of the mic we do have the
power button as well as the linking
button and on the other side we have the
light indicator LED light indicator
letting you know what mode you are in
you do not have a USBC Port here on the
mic mini like we do on the mic 2 the
USBC port on the mic 2 you're able to do
things like firmware updates on the
actual mic itself also if you wanted to
download your audio from the DJ mic to
to something like your laptop you're
able to do that through that Port the
one thing here on the DJI mik mini is
that you do not have any onboard storage
that's definitely one of the biggest
advantages of the DJI mic 2 is that you
do have internal recording uh storage
here so you could basically just use
this as a standalone mic you actually
don't need a receiver it doesn't need to
be hooked up anything you can actually
just turn it on hit record and now you
can record all of your audio directly to
the microphone now not only is that
internal recording option on the DJ Mike
2 really nice to have but that also
gives you the ability to have 32-bit
float on the DJ mic 2 something we do
not have here on the DJI mic mini now
even though we don't have 32 bit flow on
the Mike mini they did add in that
automatic limiting feature here to
prevent the clipping another feature
that the DJI Mike mini has is the
automatic clipping control which means
if I were to yell really really loud or
talk really really loud into the
microphone ideally you'll probably hear
some clipping right now it actually is
set to off now I'm going to turn
automatic clipping on and see how much
of a difference there is and just like
that in the settings turn the automatic
clipping on now let's do that test one
more time testing 1 2 3 testing 1 2 3
how does the audio sound I am pretty
much yelling into the microphone and is
there any clipping compared to when it
was off a nice feature that they brought
over from the DJI Mike 2 is that we also
have noise cancelling on the DJI mik
mini all right so let's see how it
sounds right now there's noise
cancelling is just off so this is what
it sounds like I'm going to crack these
windows just so you have a little bit of
that wind noise coming into the car and
right now noise cancelling is off we are
in basic mode right now so let me switch
it over to noise cancelling on
all right noise cancelling is on and
this is noise cancelling in basic mode
so how much difference was there uh from
having noise canceling off to right now
this is noise cancelling in basic mode
now in order for you to change the
setting you just have to hook up the
receiver to the phone and you're able to
go to the settings on the receiver and
change it from basic to strong so right
now this is what the audio sounds like
without any noise cancelling got my
windows cracked open here but I did
switch it over to the strong noise
cancelling settings so let's see how
this sounds all right we switched it on
to noise cancelling is on but is set to
strong so how much of a difference is
there between the two between having the
noise cancelling off between having it
on the basic mode and now here we have
noise cancelling on strong I have noise
cancelling turned off at the moment and
now I'm going to turn on noise
cancelling right now there you go we
have noise cancelling on the yellow
light is on here on the side how does
the audio sound with noise cancelling
busy road right next to me let me turn
it back
off noise cancelling set to off how does
the audio sound this is the DJI Mike
mini hooked up to the iPhone 15 with the
receiver plugged into the bottom the
runtime on the mik mini a single
transmitter can go for about 11 1/2
hours compared to the DJI mic 2
transmitter this has a runtime of about
6 hours the one thing that's nice is
that when you drop your mics into this
case it'll actually charge it back up
and when you charge it back up you're
able to now get up to 48 hours of
runtime when you charge it up with the
case when you charge your mics with a
case you can get about 18 hours of
runtime after charging it through this
case the one thing you will notice here
on the DJI Mike Mini case is that we are
able to now keep the cord here at the
very top if you were to put on a wind
muff here on the very top all you have
to do is press this on the back and then
onto the top once you have the the wind
muff on here you can now put it back
into the case and close it up and you
can transport it with the wind muff on
to the mic I know may sound pretty silly
but if you had the DJI mic too and you
pop it on like that and if you wanted to
drop it in here you are not able to
close the case up now when this kit does
come the two transmitters as well as one
receiver and the one receiver also has a
USBC now the case does not come with a
lightning cas C it only comes with a
USBC however you are able to purchase a
lightning cable if you have the older
iPhones and you have a little slot here
to put it at the very top now comparing
this receiver to the DJI Mike 2 receiver
of course smaller we don't have a screen
here on the front of this one it showing
us any of the menus the only thing we
really have on the mic mini receiver is
the ability to adjust the gain from zero
to POS 6 to 12 as well as -6 -12 so this
is how the audio is set at zero how does
the audio sound as far as volume goes
testing 1 2 3 4 5 this is the gain set
to zero let's switch it now to -12 going
down to -12 right now testing 1 2 3 4 5
how does the audio sound this is the
gain set to -12 how does the audio sound
testing 1 2 3 4 5 and let's go to -6
this is the gain set to -6 how does the
audio sound testing 1 2 3 4 5 testing 1
2 3 4 five let's go all the way up to
positive 6 all right this is the gain
set to positive 6 how does the audio
sound testing 1 2 345 testing 1 2 3 4 5
and let's push it all the way up to gain
at 12 testing 1 2 3 4 5 how does the
audio sound with the gain on the DJI
Mike mini receiver set to 12 how does
the audio sound testing 1 2 3 4 5 on the
very top we have one and two lit up here
to show you which one is connected to
the receiver on this side we have the
link Button as well as 3.5 to hook up to
your camera so if you wanted to hook up
the receiver directly to your camera
you're able to do that we have a builtin
cold shoe here at the very bottom which
is also a clip on this side we have the
power button and on the back we do have
the uh connectors for you to charge it
up as well as hook up the USBC one thing
I was really hoping would work but
unfortunately it does not this is the
adapter for your Sony camera
unfortunately the adapter size is larger
than the size here on the very back so
this does not slide in to the mik mini
now when it comes out to compatibility
with some of the other DJI products
what's really good is that they will
work with the DJI pocket 3 and if you do
have the two mic mini combo you can hook
up both mics to the pocket 3 as well as
the new DJI action 5 Pro this one does
accept two different mics the action 4
it will work with the wireless mic as
well except the action 4 only accepts
One microphone hookup and then if you
have something like the DJI action 3
this doesn't have the wireless linking
however you are able to then plug in
USBC to the side of the action three and
you can actually use this now as your
wireless system just like that now if
you didn't have any of these products
but you still wanted to have better
audio with your phone you are able to
connect your DJI Mike mini to your phone
via Bluetooth now the only downside of
hooking up Bluetooth to your phone is
actually the same issue we had here with
the DJI Mike 2 is that you're not able
to directly hook it up to the native
video photo app that you have on
something like this iPhone 15 however
you can download other thirdparty apps
like the Black Magic app and that's
actually a free app to use and when you
download that app you can hook up the
DJI mic via Bluetooth to that app all
right the one thing that's pretty cool
with the DJI mic mini is that you are
able to hook up the mic by itself to
your iPhone right I have it hooked up
right now to the iPhone 15 and I don't
have the receiver hooked up to it so
this is hooked up directly via Bluetooth
now of course this is the receiver here
you are able to hook it up with the
receiver you'll get better quality as
well as better reception but if you just
have the mic by itself you are able to
hook it up straight through Bluetooth
and this is really cool because you
don't necessarily have to have the
receiver on it you can just use the mic
by itself hook it up via Bluetooth and
how does the audio sound let me actually
move back a little bit further I'm going
to have my back to the camera so you
might not be be uh it might have the
best reception but once I go line of
sight like this ideally the reception
should be really good and the reason why
I'm shooting right next to the street is
because I want to see if the noise
cancelling works now there is noise
cancelling on the mini mic or mic mini
all you have to do is press the power
button just like that and then the
yellow light will turn on on the side
and this is with the noise canceling off
I'm not 100% sure if it works with just
the Bluetooth alone so how does the
audio sound
next to we busy road here in San Diego
testing 1 2 3 4 5 how does the audio
sound this is with the noise cancelling
on now let me turn it
off and this is with the noise
cancelling off now overall my thoughts
on the DJI Mike mini I am super
impressed with the quality you're
getting for this tiny little size and
not just that the tiny little price if
you wanted to buy just the transmitter
by itself this comes in at only
$59 and like I said if you have the
action 4 action 5 pocket 3 or just your
phone and you wanted to hook it up via
something like a third party app like
the Blackmagic app you are now able to
hook up this microphone to all of those
devices then if you want to step it up
and have even better audio you're going
to want to pick up the receiver and this
receiver combo with the transmitter
comes in at $89 of course you will need
the receiver if you're planning on using
your microphone setup with your camera
like I said this is just a cold shoe
you're going to hook up your 3.5 cable
here on the side to the camera and now
you're able to use your mic with
something like this the Sony A7 S3 and
for $169 you're able to get this right
here which is the full setup the two
transmitters one receiver comes with the
case all the accessories and of course
you can charge it in this case so you're
able to get a lot more runtime with this
package they are going to be selling the
case separately for about $49 but if you
are going to get it you might as well
get this whole thing for1 169 I think
one of the biggest advantages of the DJI
Mike mini will be when using it with
something like these cameras right here
I think having that smaller footprint
and also having just crispy audio and
keeping everything kind of more compack
for the price of only 59 bucks
definitely the DJI Mike mini though
packs a punch has a ton of features and
you guys tell me how was the audio
quality coming through as always if you
guys got some value from this video a
big like would be much appreciated this
is ultra sasio with flight path.com I'll
see you in the next one take care
