this is Brenda Wood Bay the ninth step

part 14 and part one

um of the confrontation with midwives of

The Fragrant void

we're not going to be doing cozy

vignettes today however I believe some

of you

and maybe all of you oh some crowns from

last time that you marked but we did not

do so we're going to go ahead and kick

off with those Crown resolutions so take

a look at your sheet and whoever's ready

um I'm going to be doing a crown of the

queen a flashback showing how you're an

imperfect mother I think this is going

to be a theme for a lot of the

flashbacks today

um we see a kitchen a nice nice kitchen

a little bit more modern than anything

doll would have lived in in any of these

other flashbacks you can see out the

window the Rocky Mountains so we know

this is not in dildo this is in the

Rockies it's very different uh it's

actually in a place called Balzac so

Balzac is uh just close to the the Rocky

Mountains in Alberta and doll is

visiting her one of her daughters and

you see her daughter cooking up a feast

you know a fry up on the stove doll

sitting in the kitchen her daughter says

uh Mom after this I'm gonna be heading

out to town I gotta pick up some stuff

at the mall

and doll says oh well I'll come with you

it'll be it'll be a you know a day trip

oh um I was just hoping that I could go

by myself you know just get things done

a lot faster that way uh and doll replies

replies

oh well then I'll stay here and I'll

look after the kids

and her daughter Katie replies

oh well they're all off doing their own

thing today you know they they've got

clubs and whatnot so it's mostly just

going to be you sitting around so and

and

doll looks really kind of sad and put out

out well

well

are you sure I can't just come with you

I think I think I should come with you

just in case you need a hand or anything

and Katie sort of slams The Frying Pan down

down

not angrily just frustrated and turns

around to face her mum mom

mom

I have to talk to you about this this is

getting way too bad you were

always underfoot here you know you come

out to visit us and it's so nice to see

you but you've got to know why you get

keep getting passed between us kids

right you're codependent we can't live

our own lives when you're around it's

all you have to be there all through

everything you were codependent on dad

you're co-dependent on us

when when are you gonna learn to live by

yourself when are you going to learn to

doesn't really know what to say

so instead she says well I suppose if

you don't want me here

I could go and take up my friend on her

offer to move to the brindlewood Bay I

mean Daddy's there anyway

and Katie replies the size and then

you're just going to be codependent on

Danny or on your friend

I'm not saying this to be mean

you just

you're just really hard to be around

and that's the end of the flashback

remind me where that scene was taking

uh in a kitchen in Balzac Alberta

uh I think um

we see in the background uh in the

kitchen there is a

gentleman wearing an all-white like

short sleeve shirt white pants white

shoes black belt hat that's white with

the black brim of a milkman

uh delivering milk and instead of like

almost in like a like a sitcom faction

fashion is like almost a character is

walking and hearing something they

shouldn't hear but instead it's just

staring directly past

and it's just there and it doesn't leave

who else would like to go with their crown

um I'm also with a flashback showing how

you were in a perfect mother

now uh Rosemary's children's situation

was pretty unique because she never had

children of her own per se rather she

was more of an aunt figure for her

children and this happened when uh they

were younger um

see uh

uh Daniel's actual mother Margaret uh she

she

she had an interesting fashion style

that did not screen

PTA mother but hover Rosemary with her

uh sort of

I'll just

All The Cardigans like perpetually just

said like oh this is a very nice polite

woman let's send her to like uh pick up

the kids from school make sure like that

the dealing with the principal if they

get into fights because well

on this particular

uh they uh Daniel got into brawl with

another kid

Rosemary doesn't remember like the kid

or the dad's name who was there it was

just like oh yes Daniel's and was just

the principle was going on about like

how they have no tolerance policy and like

as like they're going outside Rosemary's

like you know that violence is not the

answer to some things in life and it's

and trying to give a lecture and like

other parent just sort of sneered and

just like

yeah if it wasn't for the or the

principal my cable would have just

trounced yours and the Rosemary just got

this wide-eyed stared so in front of the school

school

uh the police were called because there

was a brawl between two parents there

and well

Rosemary was unfortunately not allowed

to drive the children to school anymore so

somewhere in this scene there is a

hungry bear with molten gold dripping

I heard mention of driving the kids to

school and in uh uh the background one

of the school buses in the lot there is

who else would like to go with their

Crown I also have a flashback showing

how you were an imperfect mother so

let's keep the chain going

it is

inside Muriel's Old Pub

um she looks roughly the same as she

does now just with the exception of

maybe a good a decade or so younger

um and she is

behind the bar smoking a cigarette and

the place is largely empty and there is

no one around no customers

um and the door opens

and it's

um Hamish because Muriel did not have a

child with Gavin but they adopted uh

Gavin's nephew and Hamish is uh at this

point uh you know in his

late 20s early 30s and he's uh come back

from walking Wally they're very old

Border Collie at this point

um and there is a tense silence between

the two of them and Hamish just walks

kind of disgruntedly

um around the back through the kitchen um

kind of you know lets Wally off off the

leash kind of runs upstairs so they're

Loft above the business and there's a

lot of just quiet these two are clearly

not speaking to one another

um and

um eventually though Hamish breaks the

Silence by walking back down from The

Loft uh with a bundle of envelopes in

his hand he just like slaps him on the

counter in front of Muriel

um Muriel just very lazy just like looks

down at them still smoking from her

cigarette and Hamish is just like do you

know what those are Auntie more Bells

and you haven't opened this round either

what is your problem Muriel

Muriel just says oh don't talk to me

that way Hamish

oh bloody will raise you in in Hammond

she's like I'm [ __ ] know well enough

who bloody well raised me

um maybe it's like tear open the

envelopes and just be like Bill after

Bill after Bill after Bill overdue

overdue not paid he's like you are a we

head away from being affected from this

place Muriel why haven't you just moved

on with your life go on anywhere else I

kind of keep living like this auntie and

Muriel's just like

told you before boy Garvin wouldn't he

want and Hamish cutting was in garvin's

dead Auntie hey spend dead for three

years now

the place has been falling apart you

kind of keep going on like this

he wouldn't want you to be sitting here

squandering your last years away in a

rotting Pub about to be affected

I'm going I'm moving I've been talking

to Sarah we're moving in together

I'm not gonna be here anymore we can

live our lives

in this place anymore auntie it's gone

people don't come here

you're holding on to a corpse

you gotta stand up for yourself stop

living in the past and and uh Muriel's

just like what you knew about my life boy

boy

and they're just like

a a long silence as they just stare each other

other

and hamisha says

you're not the auntie I looked up to

anymore Muriel

and I hope you find a way

to actually live your life again

and then he storms out and leaves and

Muriel's just left staring at the

various bills payments

the Sea of debt

wondering if she'll ever actually go anywhere

Amanda where was the Centaur in that scene

the camera pans from Muriel staring at

these this mountain of bills and as it

pans past the bar the mirrored

backsplash where all the bottles are you

can see the reflection of a large

Centaur and as the camera spins towards

the center you see that it is standing

in the doorway

right after Hamish has left

and it's looking in on Muriel it's

haloed with this bright white light and

in its chest is a giant cicada and it's

yeah I got one

uh I've got my

it's [ __ ] Centaur flashback showing

how you're an imperfect sister or daughter

daughter um

we see a scene uh title card

says West Virginia

uh 50 years ah 60 years ago uh

where you see a

like 10 to 12 year old Alice

uh who is picking up rocks and throwing

them into a creek a very common practice

for children in West Virginia um

and she hears

and she starts creeping forward kind of

moving alongside the brush

her brother

getting picked on by a bunch of older

boys essentially just getting um

um just

just

cursed at

beating up things that you know Common

Backwoods bullying

uh and there's a moment where she grabs

a stick and she wants to

step in

but she doesn't

and she tries to hide herself more but

her brother sees her and locks eyes with her

her

doesn't say anything but you can tell

there's like betrayal in his eyes for

her not stepping in as she's just quiet

chaotic

we've seen what Charles looks like currently

currently

it's not too much different from what he

looks like nowadays possibly just about

five years younger or so

I think he there is like this upper Bank

where there's like this crop of trees

and they used to sort of lounging eating

Muriel

managed to give Isaiah langmore the slip

we didn't role play that but that's what happened

happened

equally Rosemary managed to leave

the Deep reavers

you all got together

and deduced the Percy Underwood has been

orchestrating many of the events that

have been taking place over the last year

year

murders fires

fires

all kinds of [ __ ] breaking out

you got very little sleep

for all the emergency vehicles

going up and down the lanes

but the next morning

at the request

of Celia [Music]

[Music]

you have met Celia

on the outdoor patio of the foam coffee

shop a local place

she looks Haggard she looks tired

I managed to escape them

I managed to get away from the midwives

they've taken their final sacrifices

their most devoted members of the ninth step

step

regular men and women from town

they've taken them somewhere

to complete a ritual to summon a

moving the creature through the birth

canals so to speak and now they are

taking the final sacrifices

to a place that they call

I don't know where that is

I'm sorry

but if they're going to be stopped

you're going to have to find out where

that place is

and you're going to have to put an end

to this

I don't know

much more

only that they haven't been hiding out

in brindlewood Bay

they've been hiding out in Mucky point

that little

the little place with the lighthouse

just outside town

I guess there are some caves somewhere

around here that connect up to Mucky

point and they use the caves to move

back and forth between the two places unseen

unseen

they're not in Mucky Point anymore

they've gone off to wherever they're

going to go complete their ritual but

but

they they had to have left something

behind some kind of indication of where

of where this is going to take place

and there's something else

they have summoned

monstrous demons from the underworld

one of them has the aspect of a bear

cursed with the ill favor of King Midas

another is a centaur like from Greek mythology

mythology

with the ill favor of tithanus but

and the third servitor they summoned a

long time ago months ago

a beautiful young man

he has the ill favor of Oedipus but

and indeed

you have a single question to answer

where is the place of the final crowning

I don't need an exact street address

just a sort of general idea of what the

if you answer it correctly you will be

able to stop the midwives confront them

before they complete the ritual and

summon the million hander

it is a complexity eight because of the

we're on a timer

you have until the end of this session

if you don't the million hander is

summoned and the only way to stop the

midwives will be a direct confrontation

this final mystery will challenge you

completely as characters and as players

you will have to use every part of the pig

and I think we're going to kick off in

really really good fashion

because Justice Celia is done telling

you everything that's going on

everything you have to do a truck comes

barreling down the street

truck you can tell right away is being

driven by a frenzied Isaiah langmore and

he intends to run Celia down Muriel what

do you do

oh no okay Muriel is going to uh leap

forward and uh uh uh um tackle uh Celia

out of the way like like just body check

her to dive out of the way of this truck

that's barreling by

that is going to be the day move what do

you phrase is going to happen if you

fail uh that uh the both of us are going

to get hit by Isaiah langmore's truck

you're a disadvantage because I think

you're still marked by Isaiah and this

is going to be with vitality

love that for me

um you know I'm gonna Mark

um my arthritis tincture I had taken

that this morning to make my joints all

Lively and good so I'm feeling spry and

able to move quickly

all right uh so I will roll flat here we

go plus Vitality plus three come on I

built Muriel to do this exact scenario

uh that is 10.

Celia seal uh yeah like I there's this

truck comes barreling down the road uh I

see all that Muriel managed to get out

is oh you gotta be [ __ ] kidding and

then just like leaps for Celia to like

tackle her out of uh wherever we were

sitting in in the with the coffee shop

and like dive off to the side as the

truck comes ripping through just

knocking tables left right and Center

napkins in a a flurry just falling

yeah like there are like string fairy

lights but it's like you know they're

not on but those like just get like you

know ripped and torn like you know

railings get like pulled down if this

truck comes Wheeling for and then uh

crashes uh through a post box on this uh

next street corner into the corner of a

building and just lurches to a stop

Alice Isaiah is dragging himself out of

um okay well I do need to clarify we did

solve the previous uh mystery right you

didn't do yes so I no longer have

disadvantage on my roles

no yeah okay got it okay I will get

disadvantage of condition plays into it

okay just had to clarify that a little

bit uh geez Louise um

uh I I guess oh my god um

he's dragging himself out of the truck

currently Muriel has grabbed Celia um

I think

Alice is going to try to like kind of

sneak around the truck almost try to

flank Isaiah like immediately like while

he's distracted being like I'm no good

head-on with this Old Lighthouse Keeper

so let me let me flank around sneak up

behind him he's a Harbor Master but yeah

so do you have I like that are you

intending to like knock him unconscious

or attack him or what are you gonna do

yeah yeah it's gonna be like a like a

kind of like still like hit him over the

head with my big old Coach bag love that

that'll be composure and and um

oh you're okay on on conditions you can

roll regular dies okay thank you I

appreciate that

getting ready to like stand up and

everything but Isaiah is like oh there

you are Muriel McGregor I've got you now

right where I want and then a crack over

his head as a big Coach bag just just

hit some in the back of the head and he just

just goes

goes

like squinty eyed and everything and

just collapses on the ground

uh and just just full of Bluster goes

time up check them check everything just

spits on them and just starts combing

flip open my flip phone with the large

buttons and the large screen Jitterbug

yeah yeah and I I answer hello

oh Ms Ryan it's Gerald

hi Gerald um

go ahead you have to be quiet

I'm trying to be quiet

there's something here in the house with me

I'm hiding in a closet there's something

in here

I've called 9-1-1 several times but

they're too busy no one can come out here

here

I don't know who or what it is Miss Ryan

but it keeps talking about how hungry it is

is oh no

no stay quiet stay down um

I'm not sure which closet you're in But

whichever one it is there's probably

things to hide under

I think like Alice is tying well uh

the the truck trying to take for some

just grabbing the keys and I'm just

looking through like stuff just seeing

like what's there Isaiah as a part of

this scheme to end the world and well

we've gotta stop it somehow so let's

find some Clues like we always do

I think because you're a terrified

condition and what just happened I'm

gonna put you a disadvantage but it is

going to be the meddling move with reason

man that's a really good rule that is a

langmore as Alice is getting him nice

old fashioned vintagey Farm trucks so

langmores Pockets into belongings and

just be like you know what else does you

have on yourself that you've been hiding

from me so Rosemary's got the truck

you've got Isaiah himself go ahead and

you doing right now you have this like

desperate phone call from Gerald

I am turning towards my fellow mavens

and yelling get in the truck get in the

truck right now we have to go save

clearly an old map it doesn't have like

features from like modern day you know

like landmarks and stuff but it has like

um coinage things like that

that's an interesting clue and that is

your clue there might be a complication

to that clue I haven't decided yet Rosemary

in the floorboard of the truck

yeah yeah just kind of like like gonna

be there for Celia probably could jump

to the bed of the truck and just like

listen and be like yes go ahead and tell me

I figured probably Rosemary because you

were the first one in the truck okay

unnaturally loud they're louder than the

an enormous Arrow shaft flies through

the back window then through the front windshield

and then another one nearly hits the tire

shattering the concrete

and then another one that caused you to

Swerve Rosemary you have to navigate a

hail of enormous arrows being fired at you

from somewhere

why did you let me try it out y'all I

who drove a bloody sorry for my younger

years why didn't you let me drive you

made my suspicion this is going to be

the day move what do you phrase is going

to happen if you fail Rosemary

I think like the like the the truck is

gonna just get hit and we're gonna end

up in a crash

please go ahead and roll Vitality with disadvantage

oh God this is not the the pace I set

myself up to be ready for okay we're in

it now yeah the nice remain to be good

to doll's house a fourth one of you gets

waylaid by this creature

you get to decide who though Rosemary

yeah I'm gonna bump that up with a with

everybody can take a little bit of the

scene here because it's kind of a group

scene of like just this scene of this

invisible horse

writing person shooting massive arrows

at you they whistle through the air and

uh Rosemary's trying to like drive like

avoid it just like thriving erratically

across the street trying to avoid

everything and just terrified the entire

time and just screaming at the like the

doll is leaning out the passenger side

window uh and just grabbing things from

inside the inside the truck inside the

cab like grabbing things out of the

glove box whatever is on the floor and

just whipping them out the window out

the window trying to

at least stop them a little bit it's not

really doing anything

uh Muriel um

since you know a a arrow came through

the back uh and shattered the back glass

she like she's like oh she climbs out of

uh the front of the truck is in like the

little like uh the wood bordered uh uh

uh flatbed of this Old Farm truck I

imagine and just kind of like Duck slow

and like occasionally looks to get a

peek of what's what's shooting her and

like ducks again uh and I think she like

looks up again and she's trying to get

eyes and like shouts like uh directions

towards like Rosemary of just being like

you know just to swerve at the right

moment and then unexpectedly very spry

as one of these things comes coming in

uh she just yep and like reached up and

manages just to grab it out of the air

I love it anything to add Alice

uh yeah Alice is just trying to scan

like behind us scan the horizon line

anything like that trying to see where

the [ __ ] these arrows are coming from uh

probably using the camera and everything

trying to try to get something no luck

but you do eventually lose the thing you

no longer hear the the Hooves and you

make it to dolls

doll's house everybody and everybody and

okay wait wait wait wait wait wait wait

wait wait wait wait everybody in we

we don't know what what's after Gerald

we don't know what's in there with

general what about what's after us

jeez probably have somebody stay out

okay everybody in but I'll keep watch

from inside okay there we go okay Celia

says to you doll

once everybody's calmed down a little

bit and kind of she's like I don't think

I've ever met Gerald

oh he's just

here boy he's helped us out

three times every time we've been in a

pickle Gerald has just swooped in and

knew exactly what to say and do

so we've we've really got to help him

are you going into the front or the back uh

and I think in the back is where my

private elevator is

when you go to the back

you see two things one something has

wrenched to the door off its hinges two

the sidewalk

is spattered with

with gold

Celia says

oh she goes like pale as a sheet

and she's like I I can't go in there

I can't go in and

here I think

Rosemary because you have terrified I'm

the day move what are you phrase gonna

happen if you lose your nerve

I'm just gonna start break out crying

right here and refuse to go inside as well

yeah I don't really have anything to use

and the dice taketh away uh six

Alice doll Muriel unless

Rosemary marks a crown you're going to

figure out some way to deal with

an advantage but I think I still have it

in my cozy little place I have a calming

decoction uh an herbal tincture that is

quite like common kinlay like can you

like wrestle uh uh uh uh look at me

your mouth and just like like put the

bottle in and just be like yeah

I don't need a roll if you just erase

the picture yeah sure and obviously if

you're okay with that chaotic yeah I'm

you don't get to Gerald in time

gold all over the place is going to get

me into the building in the first place

Celia and rosemary who both had freakouts

we can maybe we can find some of that

champagne or that that rose that Gerald

was drinking

it's I imagine that doll's house looks like

like um

uh like it's very dimly lit but with

like neon accents you know a little bit

of a barrel decorated yeah it's like

neon like you know running lights and

stuff like that right so it has this

like kind of very like Miami Vice glow

to it or silk stuff I'm gonna say oh God

damn it it's an avant-garde New England

gay bar or like the new Dojo the new the

new dojo in uh in in Cobra Kai yeah yeah

yeah it's like that right um

um and

and

you know there's like exotic fish tanks

in one wall and Big Banana Leaf potted

plants you know it's very it does not

look anything like doll or Newfoundland

I imagine and

so it's but it's dark is the key thing here

here

you can't see

it's a fairly open floor plan but

because it's so dark there are lots of

shadowy places for things to hide

and you hear

and almost plaintiff cry

move what are you afraid is going to

I'm scared that this thing's gonna get

outside to Celia

it is worse than that it is going to

then climb up to the top floor from the

tone we would go from this like horror bouncing between comedy and horror like

bouncing between comedy and horror like almost effortlessly and it was really

almost effortlessly and it was really really good uh so just yeah stars to
