hi and welcome to my YouTube channel my
name is Emma and this channel is called
perfumer ISM so you clicked on this
video because you want to learn either
how to apply perfume or how to make your
fragrance last a really long time thank
you for trusting me with this
information my name is Emma I studied
fragrance at Isco I also worked as a
sales associate in fragrance for about 3
years so I tested a lot of the
fragrances on the market I've worked
with a lot of different people and
customers I also have a bachelor in
science and I love fragrance and I read
a lot of books and literature about
chemistry of fragrance and the science
behind fragrance so I really want my
page to be a place where you guys can
learn and go-to for these kinds of
things first of all let's talk about how
to apply perfume now this is a question
that will vary personto person it will
greatly vary based on how strong you
want your fragrance to be and what
you're going to be wearing your
fragrance for so for example if you're
going to work in a health care place
where you're not supposed to wear
fragrance and you're trying to get away
with it you will want to go in
light-handed with a fragrance that is
not very strong and so say that you want
the most intimate like near fragrance to
you you want a fragrance that is mostly
top note heavy or a fragrance that is
not alcohol based in your fragrance you
have three ingredients you have water
alcohol and oil the oil is the perfume
oil and that is what smells in your
fragrance and alcohol is what projects
into the air if you've ever sprayed
fragrance and you all you smell in the
first second is alcohol is because
alcohol is very volatile it has a low
boiling point so as soon as it touches
your skin it will heat up and project
into the air and sometimes it'll bring
some of the oil with it so if you have a
fragrance like this that is just oil and
you put it on your skin it will stay
closer to the skin and it won't project
as far away whereas if you have a
fragrance that is alcohol based like
this that is a liquid you will spray it
on your skin and you can smell it from
far away because the alcohol is
projecting and bringing the fragrance
into the air and so because of that a
fragrance like this will project farther
away from you whereas an oil usually
stays closer to the Skin So if you are
going to be in an intimate setting an
oil is really good because it stays on
your skin longer if you want to boost
longevity fragrance oil is definitely
the way to go an oil is sometimes a good
base to make your fragrance last longer
and then you can add a perfume on top if
you want Maximum Impact I will Define a
few terms I've kind of discussed these a
little bit there is projection longevity
and seage are three important terms when
it comes to fragrance projection how far
does your fragrance project how far away
can people smell you oils tend to have
closer and smaller projection you have
to kind of lean in to smell whereas
alcohol-based fragrances can go pretty
far so A Light alcohol based fragrance
you might be able to smell it if someone
leans in or an arms length is about
light projection Beyond arms length I
would say is medium projection and then
filling a room I would say is insane
crazy amazing projection and then seage
is how strong is the perfume within the
space that you can smell it so there's
some fragrances that someone can smell
you within arms distance but it's very
faint so that fragrance would not have a
very strong seage whereas fragrances
like UD for greatness even tiot I would
say has a very strong seage it's very
very strong and super potent smellable
range so that's projection longevity and
cage so let's talk about the perfume PID
so your fragrance has a ton of different
notes in it this fragrance I know has
matcha vanilla all these different
things some of the notes we we will call
Top notes middle notes and Bas notes so
those are all different things that you
smell in here based on their boiling
points you smell them at different
periods of time and So based on that you
will find that every fragrance has a top
a middle and a base based on how you
smell from the top as in the initial
scent the mid as in the scent as the
fragrance has sat for a few hours and
then the dry down several hours later
think of cooking if you've ever cooked
with like wine or alcohol you know that
it's kind of the first thing to boil off
and then if you have water alcohol Cooks
off really fast that's why a lot of
people cook with wine and you don't get
drunk from eating whatever you're
cooking is because the alcohol boils off
really quickly so it's kind of a similar
thing with this some notes for example
bergamont bergamont is a very popular
top note because it has a super low
boiling point so the second you spray
the second it touches your skin it's
evaporating it's projecting into the air
you can smell it right at the beginning
because it's like the alcohol or like
the wine the thing that you smell
immediately that boils off first those
are the top notes those are what you
smell immediately and then middle notes
are like the water that stays behind and
so middle notes are usually floral notes
all these different things whatever you
smell after the top notes go away and
then base notes are really long-lasting
fragrances like vanilla Sandalwood
pachuli these are all base notes that
have a really good longevity and this
has to do with the chemical properties
of the scents themselves so if you have
a fragrance that's super top- note heavy
it won't last as long for example I have
this fragrance called chill and solle
from bulgary it's a naroli bergamont
pedig scent it's super fresh and very
green and this is super topheavy it's a
very like up here kind of fragrance
Super Fresh super light this fragrance
will never have the same oomph and
craziness as as something like incarnate
by Scout Dixon West which is pure
balsams and resins and really strong
super long lasting fragrances you can
never get this to project like this and
you can never get this to last like this
because of the chemical properties of
the scent and the only way to get this
to last like this is for it to actually
change like to add pachuli or to add
sandal water to add these Bas notes for
the fragrance to cling to however there
are ways to make it last longer for
example if you have a fragrance like
this you can layer it with a perfume oil
so put a perfume oil on on spray the
fragrance on after the perfume oil and
the oil and the moisture will give your
fragrance something to cling to top
middle and base notes those are all
based off of heat and evaporation and
that's why you most commonly spray on
your pulse points which are points that
you have a lot of concentrated heat so
that is something like our wrists behind
your ears behind the knees ankles even
if you wanted to generally we spray on
the pulse points so I will show you how
I apply this is a fragrance called happy
dust this is an extr of perfum so it has
a lot of fragrance oil but it's not
super strong it's not like a crazy beast
mode performance so I would say this is
just kind of my average application
routine so spray on one wrist generally
you do not rub because like I mentioned
heat is super important for the
fragrance experience so if you're
rubbing your wrist you're causing
friction which can cause the fragrances
to evaporate before they're really
supposed to so if you really really rub
your wrist your fragrance won't last as
long because it'll essentially boil off
before you really give it the chance to
settle or you can evaporate some of the
top notes and then your fragrance just
it's just not the same so that's why you
don't rub your wrist so spray on one
spray on the other and then I like to
spray on the back of my
neck sometimes I'll also spray on the
center of my chest your skin is a heated
surface and heat will evaporate your
fragrance so if you want your fragrance
to last long if you're struggling with
longevity one thing that's really
important to do is spray on your clothes
be careful obviously this fragrance is
not super dark some fragrances have
really dark juice and therefore you have
to be careful cuz sometimes it could
stain in your clothing The Matrix of
your clothing is optimal for holding on
to fragrances your clothing is literally
ready to just suck up and hold on to
fragrances whereas your skin is ready to
heat up fragrances so if you spray on
clothing you won't get the same kind of
top middle base because your clothes
won't be meshing with the fragrance the
way that your skin is the benefit of
that is it boosts longevity your
fragrance will hold onto your clothes a
little better and sometimes it's just
nice to have a little bit more fragrance
so spraying on clothes is really
important for boosting longevity with
fragrance you can also spray on your
hair however fragrances are made of
alcohol which can be drying to your hair
so just keep cognizant of that places
that are intered to spray I like the
back of my neck because if you spray the
front of your neck it'll be the
strongest right under your nose and
sometimes your fragrance could choke you
out if you do the back of your neck then
you'll have a scent Trail and every time
you move your hair the fragrance will
disperse behind you so I think it's
really pretty wrists are gorgeous so
that when you move your arms around the
fragrances will disperse um another
thing you can do is spray and walk
through now some people consider this
wasteful but it's actually a very
effective technique especially for
strong fragrances I worked as a sales
associate for several years and mugir
fragrances specifically like Angel those
are all made to be overdosed so those
are extremely potent strong fragrances
and we were actually directed by mugir
that you're supposed to have clients
spray the fragrances and walk through
them and that is actually how you're
supposed to apply a mugir fragrance
because they are so strong and superdos
that you're not supposed to just put
them on your skin the way you would in
original fragrance it would be way too
overpowering so just spray and walk
through that is definitely a technique
that you can do with strong fragrances
that you want kind of an allaround scent
bubble and not just like concentrated in
one area sometimes I'll spray all down
my body sometimes I just spray on my
pulse points when it comes to really
strong strong fragrances like for
example chot this fragrance is
incredibly beast mode it's a really
pretty vanilla perfume I will just put
like kind of one spray Central so I get
a little bit of my chest a little bit of
my clothing and then I'll do spray on
one wrist and then tap onto the other
again don't rub it's not the worst thing
you could do but it's just not optimal
because I talk with my hands and move my
hands around and so if I have a really
really strong fragrance I will split
that between wrists but you can always
do one spray on one wrist one on the
other it really depends um some tips and
tricks in terms of boosting longevity
are also it is integral that your skin
is hydrated it is integral if your skin
is dry your perfume will not last as
long your fragrance wants to stick to a
hydrated base so it is incredibly
important that you are layering your
perfume with a base I I really like any
kind of body lotion I really like the
dead cool fragrance this is extra milk
it's just like a really neutral kind of
ambery musky scent this scent is so
gorgeous and subtle that to me it just
doesn't even feel like perfume like this
almost feels like an unscented lotion
but it's super hydrating and creamy and
Rich but it doesn't feel greasy or oily
so this is kind of one of my favorite
for formulas and I'll layer this with
everything it's just kind of like a
neutral fragrance you don't have to be
much of a chemist or a perfumer to be
able to think of like what to mix this
with cuz it goes with anything I also
really like the Bianco latte body lotion
this is super long lasting crazy
longevity with this here super super
creamy I also like body oils Delina has
their dry oil you can put this in your
hair cuz it's an oil so it won't
dehydrate your hair there's also the
sish Naro these ones can tell are
obviously super super used I like to put
these on right out of the shower when my
skin is still super wet these really
help with moisture so body oils are
super super important keep your skin
hydrated and oils can also be a fun
technique to layer your fragrance and
get it to last longer and just kind of
like mix to create a signature scent
that's uniquely you um I also like nutum
here they have this body lotion another
thing you can do is use a fragrance base
now there's one that I just got it's a
solid perfume and it is so good I just
rub it on my wrist and then spray
perfume on top but it's not launching
until tomorrow this video you're
probably watching on September 18th this
product launches September 19th I will
link it in the description or like post
to the community so you guys can have it
because I really really want to feature
it in this video but it's just a little
too early that I can't talk about it so
but this product here is a solid perfume
that you guys are going to really really
like I just apply it on my wrists it's
kind of a balm like Vaseline like you
can even do like vaseline as a fragrance
based and then spray your perfume on and
that can get your fragrance to last
longer so those are my best tips and
tricks for fragrance longevity plus a
little bit about perfume science how
your fragrance works and a bit about
where to apply if you have any more
questions please let me know I'd be more
than happy to make another video I love
you guys and I'll see you later [Music]
