0:02 employability is about the skills that
0:04 you can offer a company not just in your
0:06 first job but in your entire career I
0:08 think it is everything that you are in a
0:11 professional context um every way that
0:13 you come across um call it your personal
0:16 brand if you like employability simply
0:18 means how employable you are for a
0:20 particular role it's really about not
0:23 necessarily about the specialist skills
0:26 that an individuals got but about how
0:29 they would fit into the organization employ
0:30 employ
0:32 look for a number of things firstly
0:34 they're looking for bright intelligent
0:36 people they've got a spark they're
0:38 looking for people who have going to
0:39 question the way things have been done
0:41 in the past and they quite prepared to
0:43 think laterally about how things can be
0:44 approved in the future you we are always
0:47 looking for people who can be going out
0:49 and representing our organization
0:51 because it's all about partnership
0:54 building across different sectors it
0:55 could be business it could be sport
0:58 Leisure the Arts and to carry the
1:00 confidence of an organization in
1:02 meetings and setting up and brokering
1:05 Partnerships is really really important
1:07 in my experience the people I've seen go
1:11 the furthest um are the ones who uh
1:13 communicate well they're people who put
1:15 their hand up and ask questions when
1:17 they're not sure I'd say communication
1:19 skills are the number one thing that you
1:21 need to pay attention to when we bring
1:24 graduates into our company um the most
1:26 important thing for us is their attitude
1:28 if they come into us with the right
1:29 attitude we'll teach them all the skills
1:31 they need to do the job but they've got
1:34 to have the right attitude to learn and
1:36 to get on and to want to improve and to
1:38 do the very best they can I would say
1:40 the most important skills for graduates
1:42 are communication skills organizational
1:45 skills commercial awareness and
1:47 interpersonal skills I think it's very
1:50 important to be adaptable to change and
1:53 recognize that the day-to-day aspects of
1:55 your job may not necessarily be what is
1:57 written on your job description building
2:00 up an online profile um I think is
2:02 incredibly important um and is an
2:05 important part of your employability um
2:07 looking at things like LinkedIn for
2:08 example which is one of the more
2:10 important recruitment platforms from an
2:12 employability perspective what's
2:15 important is to both invite and become
2:17 open to feedback and remember employeers
2:19 aren't looking for the finished article
2:21 they're looking for somebody who can
2:22 demonstrate that they've got the
2:24 potential who they can grow and nurture
