0:20 here to talk about my top 10 steel books
0:25 of 2024 so initially I was not going to
0:26 do this cuz I'm like you know what I
0:28 feel like I only picked up five steel
0:29 books this past year but then I started
0:31 to go back in the collection and look at
0:32 the steel books that came out I'm like
0:34 you know what actually got a lot more
0:36 than I thought I did and this actually
0:39 ended up being a really tough list to
0:41 make I've got five honorable mentions to
0:42 talk about I probably should have just
0:45 brought a couple over um but I got five
0:46 to talk about and again these videos
0:48 that I've been doing guys it's a
0:50 celebration of physical media in 2024
0:52 because we got so much good stuff before
0:55 we get into it guys like the video um
0:56 you know subscribe to the channel if you

1:01 these releases I'm getting cover in 2024

1:20 steelbooks guys I mean I've been doing
1:23 you know videos on like the 4K quality
1:25 and and box sets and packaging and all
1:26 that kind of stuff but for steelbooks
1:29 like it really comes down to artwork
1:31 like how does the how is the artwork how
1:33 does the steelbook look my own personal
1:35 taste of course factor into this like
1:37 there are steelbooks that may be on my
1:38 top 10 that you thought were just
1:40 completely ugly and ridiculous looking
1:42 and that's okay we're all different all
1:44 right but that's kind of how I I judge
1:46 my criteria for top 10 steelbooks now
1:48 getting into my honorable mentions I
1:51 brought this up in my top 10 uh 4ks of
1:53 of 2024 it wasn't in my top my top 10
1:55 but it was in my honorable mentions but
1:58 the body double 4K steelbook I I love
2:00 just I love what Sony does just put in
2:01 the original poster on a steelbook I
2:03 think that more often than not just
2:05 looks really great um but then you got
2:07 Melody Griffith on the back which looks
2:10 freaking awesome as well you open this
2:13 up you got some cool interior artwork
2:15 which interior artwork is very important
2:17 when it comes to steelbooks as well guys
2:19 um but some nice artwork on the discs
2:22 and I just I just I love this movie um
2:23 so I just thought that this is a really
2:25 awesome steelbook that Sony put out this
2:27 year again just the original poster very
2:30 simple um the lion gate strangers
2:32 chapter 1 yes the movie was was kind of
2:34 ass uh but this was a cool idea they
2:36 haven't done this since so I don't know
2:38 if everybody thought it was cool uh but
2:40 it has a little like opener right here
2:43 you open it kind of like a book um now
2:45 the way you get the steelbook out this
2:47 is probably why it's not in my top 10 uh
2:50 because you have to actually like you
2:52 have to find a little oh it's actually
2:53 from the top so you have to actually
2:56 like open this from the top and then get
2:57 the steelbook out of it like that but I
2:59 do think it's a great steelbook design
3:01 with all the strangers on it and then
3:02 you got the truck with the with the
3:04 headlights on the back and the forest so
3:06 I think the steelbook itself is really
3:09 cool we've also got the hollow man uh
3:11 Blu-ray steelbook that mil Creek put out
3:13 and I also brought over um another mil
3:14 Creek steelbook so I'll mention them
3:16 both but Walk Hard I just love the way
3:18 these look you know walk card's a nice
3:20 like kind of glossy matte finish but you
3:23 got John C Riley on the back from behind
3:24 which I think is super cool with the
3:26 audience right there I think that looks
3:27 great but I just love how it looks I
3:30 love the presentation of this one and I
3:31 that was the first time that I watched
3:34 that movie since 2007 when it came out
3:36 and I laughed so hard watching that I
3:38 miss comedy so much but the hollow man
3:40 steelbook I this is primarily on here
3:43 for the back I love that image um of
3:45 Kevin Bacon as Hollow Man on the back I
3:47 think that's super awesome but yeah this
3:48 is a really good steelbook two good
3:50 steelbooks from Mil Creek and then from
3:52 Lionsgate they did this uh I'm just kind
3:53 of bringing this over here as a
3:55 representation but the Bloody Disgusting
3:56 line there were some really nice
3:58 steelbooks in that and this is the one
4:00 for Wolf Creek they also did for year
4:03 next and Sinister and some other movies
4:05 as well um but you know you had some
4:07 some discard on the movie these were in
4:09 like a red and orange aesthetic with the
4:12 blood splatters and stuff on them so
4:14 Lionsgate is always doing some cool
4:15 stuff with their steelbooks and this was
4:17 the first time Wolf Creek got a Blu-ray
4:19 release in the state so it's also kind
4:20 of significant for that but yeah the
4:22 Lion's gate Bloody Disgusting line was
4:25 really cool now let's get into my top 10
4:27 and coming at number 10 I feel like this
4:28 one might be a little controversial I
4:30 don't feel like everybody loved this
4:32 steelbook but I when it was announced I
4:34 I thought it was really cool looking um
4:37 but the Terminator uh 4K steelbook you
4:39 know this wasn't in my top 10 4ks but it
4:41 will be in my top 10 steelbooks really
4:43 awesome steelbook I mean you got the you
4:45 got the freaking T800 there the skull on
4:47 the cover which is awesome you got right
4:50 there you got Kyle Ree and Sarah
4:52 Connor which is a really cool image as
4:54 well the Terminator swartzenegger on the
4:56 back you got that iconic image that's on
4:58 a I don't it wasn't on the original
5:01 poster cuz that's just AR like full face
5:02 but like on several of the like home
5:04 video releases my Blu-ray Edition like
5:07 you have that image of him like that
5:08 just kind of kneeling down which is
5:10 super cool when he first you know jumps
5:13 through time but on the
5:16 inside um not very cool this C but I
5:18 like the interior artwork with Arnold as
5:19 well I think that's a super cool image
5:22 of Arnold so yeah the Terminator 4K
5:24 steelbook not everybody's favorite but I
5:26 did I did appreciate that one for sure
5:27 thought it was a cool it was enough to
5:29 make me double dip I mean I got the
5:31 regular cover and I got the steelbook
5:33 for that um coming at number nine was a
5:34 was a really cool steelbook that
5:37 Paramount did for a newer film uh this
5:39 is transformers one so if you're a
5:40 Transformers fan like this one I feel
5:43 like really goes back to the nostalgic
5:45 days of Transformers from the 80s it
5:47 kind of has that kind of 80s aesthetic
5:50 especially on the back as well and I
5:51 just think it's super cool I think this
5:54 was this one really popped uh when I got
5:57 it in and I watched this movie on 4K and
5:58 it was actually a really good
6:00 Transformers movie so if you saw the
6:02 trailers cuz the trailers were horrible
6:03 and you didn't think it looked good like
6:05 check this one out because it was
6:07 actually a really solid um Transformers
6:09 animated film but the steelbook is
6:12 certainly certainly spectacular so that
6:14 was my number nine coming at my number
6:17 eight I still have not watched this uh
6:18 4K yet there's a couple on here that I
6:21 haven't watched yet uh but the Stardust
6:24 uh steel book that Paramount did this is
6:26 gorgeous like absolutely gorgeous for
6:28 some reason in my mind I thought this
6:30 was a slip cover Edition but it was not
6:33 but this was a gorgeous uh steel book
6:34 that Paramount did this year and
6:36 Paramount like I feel like they've taken
6:39 a queue from Lion's gate and really up
6:40 their game when it comes to some of
6:42 their steelbooks and we'll get to more
6:44 Paramount stuff here in a second but
6:46 this was a gorgeous one and I've heard
6:47 great things about this movie I
6:49 definitely need to check it out um and
6:51 then you open it up I mean it's a shame
6:52 that on the inside of a lot of these
6:54 Studio releases you got generic disc art
6:56 but you got some interior artwork right
6:58 there where you got Claire Danes and
6:59 some other people that were in this
7:00 movie I'm not sure the rest of the cast
7:02 again I I know Robert DeNiro Michelle
7:04 Fifer's in the movie but I don't know
7:07 everybody that's in the film but really
7:09 beautiful steelbook uh that Paramount
7:11 did right here and I just I need to
7:12 watch this movie but that that's my
7:15 number eight um getting into my number
7:17 seven was one that I was wanting
7:20 Lionsgate to do for the longest time I
7:21 think this is one of the best steel
7:23 books that they did this year and they
7:26 will come up again on this list um but
7:29 this was exactly how I wanted this to be
7:31 uh but the Wind River 4K steelbook I
7:33 love this movie I still have not watched
7:36 this 4K though I'll be honest um but I
7:37 do love this movie and I wanted them to
7:39 do this 4K steelbook for the longest
7:41 time but really cool steelbook you got
7:44 the title of the film and all that stuff
7:45 but you take it out of the slip cover
7:46 which Lions Gate's kind of known for
7:48 these slip covers Guys these these clear
7:50 slip covers that all the other Studios
7:51 or a lot of them are starting to adopt
7:54 and do now because of lion's gate but
7:56 you just got the night sky with the snow
7:59 right there I just think it's perfect I
8:01 just think it's just real quiet it's not
8:04 too busy it kind of matches the more
8:08 like Serene like just cool chill Vibe of
8:10 the film itself not that there's not
8:11 like really thrilling like intense
8:13 things that happen in this movie but
8:15 it's a really just like calm atmosphere
8:18 kind of film and I think this steelbook
8:21 just like perfectly uh portrays that
8:23 I'll open it up right here just to kind
8:25 of give you the full picture and I wish
8:26 like maybe I'll insert these at the
8:29 bottom I wish I I knew the artists more
8:31 uh you know Lionsgate always commission
8:33 some incredible artwork from some
8:35 incredible artists for their releases so
8:38 I need to give the artists more credit
8:40 um but you got some cool background or
8:42 interior artwork I love the disc art as
8:45 well um this is a really cool movie
8:48 though I highly recommend wi River with
8:51 um Elizabeth Olen and Jeremy rener are
8:53 in this film but that is my number seven
8:55 getting into my number six another
8:58 Lion's gate steel book but cutthroat
9:00 Island was a phenomenal still like I
9:02 still have not watched this one either I
9:05 need to watch this uh you know classic
9:08 Gina Davis action adventure film that uh
9:10 I I think got pretty critically panned
9:12 when it came out but this is really cool
9:14 because I mean this is just what Lion's
9:16 gate does guys they they do these cool
9:17 steel books that you know they actually
9:19 do something when you take them out of
9:21 the slip cover you know you take off the
9:23 the hats of the skull the pirate the
9:26 pirate bandan and then you got the skull
9:28 with the you know kind of crossbones
9:29 with its kind of cross swords right
9:32 there which is awesome and then on back
9:35 this one just really Pops I wish I knew
9:36 the artist of this one because this
9:41 steel book like pops like no other um
9:43 and I know Studio I think Studio Canal
9:45 did a a steelbook of this one but you
9:47 got some cool disc art you got some cool
9:50 interior artwork right there as well and
9:52 yeah this was again I don't think Lion's
9:55 gate had the best year in 2024 but they
9:56 did do they still you know with the
9:58 stuff that they put out they still
10:01 maintained like they usual quality uh
10:02 with some of these steelbooks so yeah
10:03 the Cutthroat Island steelbook I thought
10:06 was really cool that is my number six
10:08 now coming at my number five we're going
10:09 to go back to Paramount I feel like
10:10 we're just shifting back and forth
10:12 between like Lion's gate and Paramount
10:14 at this point but uh this was a really
10:16 cool design for a steelbook you can say
10:18 what you want about the 4K itself I did
10:20 review it on this channel um but the
10:23 Foot Loose uh 4K steelbook from
10:25 Paramount really cool in the kind of
10:27 aesthetic of this uh this uh cassette
10:30 tape right here which is really awesome
10:32 you got Kevin Bacon right there but you
10:34 got you know like the stickers these are
10:36 kind of like remind me like Locker
10:38 stickers or something but really cool
10:41 stuff right there and like I said it
10:44 just it just matches that like cassette
10:46 tape aesthetic and look right there
10:47 which I think which I think is super
10:48 cool there's a lot of steelbooks that
10:50 have done like the VHS tape or a lot of
10:52 releases that have done like the VHS
10:53 tape aesthetic but this is one of the
10:55 first ones I can think of that has done
10:58 like the cassette tape um aesthetic
10:59 because of course this movie
11:03 music influence great soundtrack as well
11:04 um but yeah again you can say what you
11:06 want about the 4K I think they did the
11:07 best that they could with the
11:09 restoration but this steelbook like when
11:11 everybody saw they were like I got to
11:12 have that especially if you're a fan of
11:15 foot loose cuz it was just so great and
11:19 you open it up and it does have a oh
11:21 this one actually yeah this is really
11:23 cool cuz this one they don't always do
11:25 this but this one did include a little
11:28 poster um of foot loose on the inside
11:30 then it had the digital code and you did
11:33 have some interior um artwork as well
11:35 with this one so yeah really awesome
11:38 steelbook from from Paramount that I had
11:42 to include here was the Foot Loose 4K
11:44 steelbook at at my number five now
11:46 coming at my number four this one is
11:48 from Scream Factory they have you know
11:50 notoriously done some really cool
11:52 steelbooks they did a lot of cool like
11:54 exclusive Walmart steel books this year
11:56 but like I just a lot of them I already
11:58 owned on 4K I just couldn't double dip
12:01 on everything um but this one I was weak
12:03 and I just I just had to get this one
12:04 because it was so cool and this movie is
12:06 so awesome but the Return of the Living
12:09 Dead 4K steelbook from screen Factory
12:12 this one is a real Beauty look at that
12:14 right there you got tarm man you know
12:16 escaping out of the out of the
12:19 barrel the trioxin barrel and then on
12:22 the back you got uh property Departments
12:24 of the army do not open so that's kind
12:26 of the side view of that barrel with
12:27 some St blood and stuff leaking out of
12:30 it but it's a really awesome steelb I
12:32 love the design on this one it really
12:34 pops with the greens as well and you
12:37 open this up this is a three disc set so
12:40 you got three disc which I I think this
12:41 is different discard as well than the
12:43 regular 4K but the regular 4K is also a
12:46 three disc set which I have back there
12:48 um but you have some interior artwork as
12:49 well in here I think it's all them
12:50 riding in the car in the beginning of
12:54 the film but just a great uh great steel
12:55 but great movie as well if you haven't
12:57 seen Return Of Living Dead it was one
12:59 that I was late to the party on but when
13:00 I watched this for the first time a few
13:02 years ago like I completely fell in love
13:04 with it it's a great film and this is a
13:06 great steelbook uh that screen Factory
13:07 did in 2024 yes they did other
13:10 steelbooks but I do think that's the
13:12 best one from what I saw that they did
13:13 this past year coming at my number three
13:15 guys I'm actually surprised this wasn't
13:17 up a little bit higher maybe number one
13:19 because I gushed about the steelbook
13:22 when it came out but the major league um
13:25 4K steelbook first off this transfer was
13:27 mind-blowingly awesome this was a great
13:29 uh 4K restoration maybe should have made
13:32 it into my underrated 4ks uh possibly if
13:36 not my top 10 it was a phenomenal 4K but
13:38 right here guys you got the the 4K
13:40 steelbook which is the locker and this
13:41 one was cool I actually put this one
13:44 inside of a um I got a few like you know
13:47 plastic holders um for some of my
13:49 steelbooks and I put it on this one
13:50 because I do want to protect this one at
13:52 all cost but you got the front the
13:53 locker right there but you put on the
13:56 back this one's got magnets on it so
13:58 it's got like stickable like magnets
14:00 which is really awesome so you can take
14:02 these off and you can reveal some images
14:05 and stuff on the back or you can keep
14:07 them on you can do whatever you want you
14:08 know it's your steelbook do what you
14:11 want but you know we got wild thing on
14:12 the glasses right there they're just
14:15 kind of themed to the movie and I just
14:17 thought that that was super cool like
14:18 it's got magnets they also did a slip
14:20 cover version of this but when this came
14:21 out that's the good thing about
14:23 Paramount guys they still keep their
14:25 prices pretty low on their steelbooks I
14:28 think when this came out it was like I
14:30 think I want to say was like 22 or 23
14:33 bucks to get this steelbook it was not
14:35 very expensive at all uh to get the
14:38 major league 4K steelbook so that is my
14:40 number three guys that was definitely
14:42 one of the best steelbooks that we got
14:43 in the year of
14:46 2024 now we're into my top two guys this
14:49 is the cream of the crop and this one I
14:51 got I have not watched this movie yet
14:52 guys there's too many of these on this
14:53 list I haven't watched I know but this
14:55 is again this is based on the actual
14:59 artwork itself the games I loved and I
15:01 played them all the time so when Lion's
15:03 gate announced this steel book with this
15:05 certain character on it I just I just
15:07 had to get it I didn't care like what
15:09 the movie was I don't care like how good
15:12 it was if it was directed by Eli Roth or
15:14 not I didn't care about any of that but
15:16 this Borderland steelbook that which was
15:18 which is a clap trap steelbook which is
15:21 a character from the games and the movie
15:22 and I think he's played is he played by
15:24 Jack Black in the movies like Jack Black
15:26 does all of this all this like you know
15:28 family adventure stuff now um he's
15:29 pretty much in everything he's in
15:32 Minecraft coming up um but Borderlands
15:33 like he has really like I just have to
15:36 stop for a second he's really just like
15:37 kind of uh cornered the market on like
15:40 video game voices and and performances
15:42 because he was in the Mario movie as as
15:45 Bowser he was in he's in the Minecraft
15:47 movie and he's in this movie as clab
15:48 trap so Jack Black's just doing all the
15:51 video game um inspired movies but the
15:53 Borderland steel but guys this is really
15:56 cool you got the title right there which
15:58 is awesome but you take it out and you
16:01 got freaking clap trap on a steel book
16:04 which is super cool it is embossed right
16:06 there guys so there's there's actual
16:08 like feeling right there when I when I
16:10 caress it like that uh so that is really
16:13 cool so yeah parts of him are embossed
16:15 which is awesome you flip it on the back
16:17 and yeah it's just a simple image it's
16:19 how he would look on the back but I just
16:21 thought that was a super cool it's a
16:22 simple design but it's a really cool
16:25 design um this clap trop steelbook so
16:26 when I saw this like I I don't care what
16:28 the movies I don't care how good it is
16:30 okay I I need to I still need to watch
16:32 it um don't care how good it is I was
16:34 going to get this regardless it went on
16:36 sale though on Amazon for like 26 bucks
16:38 that's when I pre-ordered it so I didn't
16:39 like spend an arm and a leg to get this
16:42 steelbook it was a pretty good price but
16:44 I couldn't resist they did another uh
16:46 Borderland steelbook as well which I do
16:47 have that was a nice one but that one
16:51 didn't make it in to my top 10 um but
16:52 you got some nice discard on there as
16:54 well I again I still need to watch this
16:56 movie I might like it I feel like I
16:59 might like it um but I was just such a
17:01 huge fan of the game so when they
17:03 announced a clap trap like 4K steel at
17:05 porland it's like how can I not get this
17:07 and it made it to my number two um
17:10 steelbooks of the year now let's talk
17:11 about my number one this one came in at
17:13 the last minute and just stole it away
17:16 from Borderlands and Major League um but
17:19 this one was so gorgeous it it is
17:21 another Lionsgate steelbook and that is
17:24 the kickboxer 4K steelbook and I just
17:28 watched this on 4K 4K is pristine it
17:31 looked so good on 4K um cuz I don't know
17:33 if I'll get around like to talking about
17:35 this and reviewing it it looked so good
17:38 on 4K um it had brand new features I
17:40 think it had like four new features the
17:42 movie itself was super fun like I really
17:45 enjoyed the film John cl's great in it
17:46 but you got John Claude on the cover
17:48 right there just doing all the kicks the
17:50 lenticular slip cover you got the back
17:52 of it right there which is awesome yeah
17:54 Lions Kate is is they're diversifying
17:56 like the types of Steel books that they
17:57 do they're doing the regular ones with
17:59 the with the plastic slip covers they're
18:02 doing these the kind of lenticular ones
18:03 right here they're doing the ones like
18:05 the strangers chapter 1 then they got
18:07 the Lion's gate limited steelbooks as
18:09 well so they're really doing some some
18:11 good things with steelbooks right now
18:14 but this is what sold me all right you
18:17 got uh you got John Claude vanam like in
18:19 the in the temple that they fighted in
18:22 the end they fight in the old ways um
18:25 just oh my God this is gorgeous like to
18:27 me like Alliance gate steelbook hasn't
18:29 looked this good since the AP ocalypse
18:31 now one like I think the Apocalypse Now
18:32 4K steelbook the original one not the
18:35 most recent one um is probably the best
18:37 steelbook they've ever done as far as
18:38 the artwork like I just think that's
18:41 gorgeous artwork but like this might be
18:43 a close second cuz I just love this I
18:45 love the red and just how it looks the
18:47 aesthetic I just think it really pops so
18:49 whoever did this the artwork oh my God
18:51 you just killed it you knocked it right
18:55 out of the park look at that oh my God
18:57 it's so gorgeous yeah I I love the
18:59 artwork on this it's got interior stuff
19:01 as well it's got discard it's a three
19:03 disc set just an incredible release by
19:05 Lions Gate I think you can get this on
19:07 Amazon still and I think it's
19:09 34.99 to get this kickboxer steelbook we
19:11 yeah gorgeous artwork really cool
19:13 ticular slip cover you know St ofos also
19:15 had a good ticular slip cover as well
19:17 that one did not make the list but this
19:19 kickboxer one I just I just think I
19:22 think it was the best steelbook of 2024
