0:38 the center of the Milky Way galaxy the
0:40 light we see left its source some 30,000
0:43 years ago the nearest spiral galaxy like
0:46 our own M31 in the constellation
0:50 Andromeda is 2 million light years away
0:52 so we're seeing it as it was when the
0:54 light from it set out on its long
0:55 journey to Earth 2 million years ago and
0:59 when we OB erve distant quazars 5
1:01 billion light years away we're seeing
1:03 them as they were 5 billion years ago
1:05 before the earth was formed they are
1:08 almost certainly very different
1:10 today so if despite this we were to
1:14 accept the literal truth of such
1:15 religious books how could we reconcile
1:18 the data the only plausible conclusion I
1:21 think is that God recently made all the
1:24 photons of light arriving on the earth
1:27 in such a coherent format as to mislead
1:29 gener ations of astronomers into the
1:33 misapprehension that there are such
1:34 things as galaxies and quazar and
1:37 intentionally driving them to the
1:39 spirous conclusion that the universe is
1:41 vast and
1:42 old this is such a malevolent theology I
1:46 still have difficulty believing that
1:47 anyone no matter how devoted to the
1:50 divine inspiration of any religious book
1:52 could seriously entertain
1:54 it Beyond this the radioactive dating of
1:58 rocks the abundance of craters on many
2:00 worlds the evolution of the stars and
2:03 the expansion of the universe each
2:05 provides compelling and independent
2:08 evidence that our universe is many
2:10 billions of years old despite the
2:13 confident assertions of revered
2:15 theologians that a world so old directly
2:18 contradicts the word of God and that at
2:21 any rate information on the Antiquity of
2:23 the world is inaccessible except to
2:25 Faith these lines of evidence as well
2:27 would have to be manufactured by a
2:29 deceptive and malicious deity unless the
2:32 world is much older than the literalists
2:35 in the judeo-christian Islamic religion
