19:29 the platform it's not broken not correct
19:32 on secure this is not a sliding fifth
19:34 wheel if you had a sliding fifth wheel
19:36 you want to make sure that the Locking
19:39 pins are on tight and locked properly
19:42 now we're going to go to the back end of
19:44 the tractor to check for our locking
19:46 jaws and our Kingpin by our fifth wheel
19:49 skid plate
19:51 now we're going to inspect the Locking
19:53 Jaws in the Kingpin on the coupling
19:55 device area
19:58 the Locking Jaws they're not broken not
20:01 cracked unsecure properly locked around
20:04 or Kingpin our Kingpin it's not broken
20:06 not cracked unsecure it is properly
20:09 greased after we do that we have to
20:12 ensure that we have enough space between
20:14 our landing gear and the end of our
20:17 tractor for proper clearance now we're
20:19 done with our coupling devices and we're
20:21 going to move on to the final portion of
20:24 the pre-trip which is our trailer
20:26 now we're going to inspect the trailer
20:29 portion of the pre-trip inspection on
20:31 the class a tractor trailer we're going
20:33 to start off with the front of the

20:57 it
20:59 then we're going to go to the side of
21:01 the trailer start from top to bottom
21:04 from front to back I would check all my
21:06 clearance lights make sure they're not
21:09 broken not cracked unsecure they're all
21:11 proper color and functioning they
21:14 function as running lights
21:17 then I would do all my DOT reflective
21:19 tape on the side of the trailer make
21:21 sure it's clean and clear the proper amount
21:23 amount
21:25 after that we're going to move down to
21:28 our landing gear
21:30 now we're going to inspect the landing
21:32 gear on the trailer make sure your
21:35 landing gear devices are now broken not
21:38 cracked unsecure the bottom base and
21:40 legs they're not broken not cracked on
21:43 secure you would check your arm to make
21:45 sure it brings their landing gear up and
21:49 down and the landing gear arm is secured
21:51 properly on the landing gear device hook
21:54 now we're going to move down to check
21:56 our side marker light and then move on
21:59 to the underside of the trailer and the
22:01 back axles
22:03 the side marker light it's not broken
22:06 not cracked on secure proper color it
22:10 functions as a running light turn signal
22:12 light and a four-way emergency flasher
22:15 indicator now let's go to the back axle
22:18 and the underside of the trailer
22:20 now we're going to inspect the underside
22:24 of our trailer and one of the rear axles
22:26 so on the underside of our trailer first
22:29 thing we want to check as a sliding
22:31 tandem trailer to make sure that the
22:33 rail it's not broken not cracked on
22:37 secure and the Locking pin it's in place
22:39 so then we're going to check our trailer
22:42 frame to make sure it's not broken not
22:44 cracked on secure
22:47 under that we're going to talk about our
22:50 Spring Mount to make sure that it's not
22:53 broken not cracked on secure
22:55 the control arm behind the mount it's
22:59 not broken not cracked unsecure
23:01 we want to check all our lines and hoses
23:04 for our sliding tandem to make sure
23:06 they're not broken not cracked unsecure
23:09 not leaking any air
23:11 after that we're going to move on to
23:13 check all our brake
23:16 hoses and lines to make sure they're not
23:20 broken not cracked on secure not leaking
23:23 working to move on to our brake chamber
23:25 the brake chamber it's not broken not
23:29 cracked on secure not leaking
23:31 under the brake chamber which is very
23:33 hard to see from here you're going to
23:35 check your slack adjuster and push rod
23:37 to make sure it's not broken not cracked
23:40 on secure has less than one inch of play
23:43 for proper brake adjustment
23:45 and inside of this area we're going to
23:47 check our u-bolts the u-bolts they're
23:50 not broken not cracked on secure
23:52 then we're going to move to the back
23:55 area of that front axle to check our airbag
23:56 airbag
23:58 behind the front axle we're going to
24:01 check our airbag make sure our airbag is
24:03 now broken not cracked on secure not
24:06 leaking properly mounted to our trailer
24:08 now we're going to go back and start off
24:12 with the brake drum and brake pads

27:40 the vehicle to check if there is any
27:42 unique items before we start our
27:46 external light operation check
27:48 once you have completed the pre-trip
27:50 inspection on the outside of the vehicle
27:53 the next step is to do an external light
27:56 operation check depending on what form
27:59 you get whether it's the front form side
28:01 form or the trailer form of the vehicle
28:04 for your inspection that's where you
28:06 will do your light check your examiner
28:08 will read you the instructions you'll
28:10 hop in the truck and start your light
28:12 check so I'm going to hop in the vehicle
28:14 to start with the front of the vehicle's
28:17 external light operation check
28:19 when you get in the truck you want to
28:21 make sure you have three points of
28:32 once you're in the vehicle the first
28:34 thing you want to do is put your vehicle
28:36 on electrical mode to power up your
28:46 once the vehicle's in electric mode you
28:48 will start your external light operation
28:51 check your examiner will stand either in
28:52 front of the truck
28:55 behind the tractor at the rear of the
28:57 tractor or behind the trailer to check
29:00 the lights functions today we're going
29:01 to start off with the front of the truck
29:04 the first lights that I want to check is
29:06 my left turn signals
29:09 the tap left turn signal is on the
29:11 examiner will tell you if it's good and working
29:12 working
29:14 then I'm going to check my right turn signal
29:15 signal
29:17 the right turn signal is on the examiner
29:20 will tell you if it's good and working
29:22 then I'm going to do my four-way
29:25 emergency flashers my four-way emergency
29:28 flashers are on the examiner will tell
29:31 me if they are good and working
29:33 so now we'll turn on my headlights once
29:35 the headlights are on you would tell the
29:37 examiner my headlights and my clearance
29:40 lights The Examiner will check those and
29:42 let you know if they're good and working
29:44 the last lights that I'll check on the
29:45 front of the vehicle are going to be my
29:48 high beams you tell the examiner check
29:50 my high beams the high beams they are

29:57 to do the rear of the tractor on the
29:58 rear of the tractor the lights I'm going
30:01 to check are going to be first of all my

30:04 the brake lights are working now I'm
30:07 going to move on to do my turn signals
30:10 my left turn signal it is working
30:13 my right turn signal The Examiner says
30:15 it's working
30:19 my four-way flashers they are working
30:22 and I'll turn on my headlights so my
30:23 tail lights could turn on and the
30:25 examiner will tell you if they're working
30:29 the next light check I'm going to do is
30:32 on the rear of the trailer on the rear
30:35 of the trailer very similar to the back
30:37 of the tractor first thing I'm going to
30:38 do is my brake lights I'm going to push
30:41 down my brake pedal my examiner will
30:42 check my brake lights on the rear of the
30:45 trailer to tell me that they are working
30:46 so now I'm going to do my left signal

30:51 then I'm going to do my right signal
30:53 indicator it is working
30:55 I'm going to do my four-way emergency

31:03 turn on my running tail lights and my
31:06 rear marker lights make sure they are
31:08 all working once I'm done with all the
31:11 lights I will tell my examiner that I am
31:13 finished with all my lights on my
31:15 external light operation check and I'm
31:17 ready for my in-cab
31:19 after completing your external light
31:22 operation check your examiner will tell
31:24 you to sit tight in the truck
31:26 The Examiner will get into the truck and
31:29 read you instructions on your in-vehicle
31:32 inspection and your engine start portion
31:34 when you do the in-cab do not forget to
31:37 do all the braking tests The Examiner
31:39 will not tell you this you have to know
31:42 that's part of your in-cab by yourself
31:46 so make sure to not forget that portion
31:48 of the inspection let's start your end
31:50 cap the first thing I do I usually move
31:54 from left to right not to miss any items

33:16 sitting secure in the bag
33:17 once I'm done with my Emergency
33:19 Equipment I'm going to go to my safe
33:21 start I have to start my vehicle first
33:24 thing I do I find my key make sure I put
33:27 my vehicle into electrical mode once I
33:30 do that I look onto my Dash to make sure
33:34 my ABS light comes on and goes off if my
33:37 ABS light stays on that means I have abs issue
33:38 issue
33:40 I'm going to put my vehicle in neutral
33:43 make sure my parking brakes are applied
33:45 put my foot on the service brake and
33:53 now that my engine has started what I
33:55 want to do I want to check all my gauges
33:58 on my dashboard first gauge I'm going to
34:01 check is my def gauge my def gauge it's
34:04 not broken not cracked on secure if
34:06 there is a light the light reads that
34:09 it's full or at proper level or if it's
34:10 a gauge as it is here
34:13 we got to make sure it's at proper level
34:16 my water temperature gauge it's not
34:19 broken not cracked on secure either it's
34:21 rising or at proper level
34:23 my oil pressure gauge it's not broken

34:29 my volt meter it's not broken not
34:32 cracked on secure it is that proper
34:35 level of voltage my fuel gauge it's at
34:37 proper level or I have to have enough
34:40 fuel to finish my trip or get to a
34:42 fueling station
34:44 the last gauges I checked are my air
34:48 brake gauges primary and secondary both
34:50 of my air brake gauges they're now broke
34:53 not cracked on secure rising or at
34:54 proper level
34:56 next thing I do I move from left to
34:58 right once again I'm going to go to my
35:00 indicator arm I'm going to check all my indicators
35:01 indicators
35:04 left turn signal indicator properly working
35:06 working
35:08 right turn signal indicator properly working
35:10 working
35:12 emergency 4-way flashers they're
35:13 properly working
35:17 and my high beam indicator it's properly working
35:18 working
35:20 once I do that on the same indicator bar
35:22 on this truck I'm going to check my
35:25 wipers and my washers my wiper fluid is
35:26 properly working spraying onto my
35:28 windshield and my wipers they are
35:30 cleaning my windshield properly working
35:32 not broken not cracked
35:34 once I'm done with that I'm going to
35:36 test my city horn
35:38 make sure it's working my electric cord
35:41 next I'm going to do my air horn my air
35:44 horn does work or the you can call it
35:45 the highway horn
35:47 once I'm done with that I'm going to
35:49 jump in to check my defrost and floor
35:52 heat so I'm going to put my vehicle in
35:54 heating position turn on my fan make
35:56 sure I do the proper adjustment on the vents
35:57 vents
36:00 my defrost is working I can feel it here
36:02 the air is coming through and my floor
36:06 heat is working also
36:08 now I'm going to turn off my defrost
36:11 and my floor heat
36:13 the last thing I'm going to check now is
36:15 my brakes so let's move on to the
36:17 braking tests
36:19 first breaking test I'm going to do is
36:21 the most important one is my lab test
36:23 if you do not do this right you
36:25 automatically fail your tests so pay attention
36:26 attention
36:28 first thing I'm going to mention to the
36:31 examiner is my air tank gauges primary
36:34 and secondary are at proper level in full
36:35 full
36:41 put the truck on electrical mode so I
36:48 put my foot on the service brake
36:50 to hold the vehicle
36:52 and I'm going to release my parking brakes
36:53 brakes
36:56 once the air settles out
36:58 I'm going to start my lab test
36:59 step number one
37:02 I'm going to hold my foot on the brake
37:03 for one minute
37:05 and I have to count that minute or have
37:07 the examiner count that minute
37:09 and while I hold my foot on the brake I
37:13 do not lose more than 4 PSI of air in my
37:29 my minute is up I counted to a minute I
37:31 did not lose more
37:34 then four PSI of air in my air tanks
37:37 it's a good test next up we're going to
37:39 check the alarm and buzzers I'm going to
37:41 Fan my foot brake my service brake till
37:46 around 60 to 40 PSI alarm and or buzzer
37:48 should come on to indicate that I have
37:50 low air in my air tanks let's do that now
38:02 my alarm and buzzer did come on that
38:03 works properly
38:05 now we're going to move to the final
38:08 step the buttons my emergency spring
38:10 break should come on while I'm Fanning
38:13 my brake to 20 to 40 PSI to indicate
38:15 that those work also let's move to the
38:27 my buttons both popped out around 20 to
38:31 40 PSI that was a successful test we're
38:33 going to move on to start the vehicle
38:36 build the air back up to do the service
38:39 brake and the parking brake test let's
38:41 do that now make sure the vehicle is
38:43 neutral your brakes are on foot on the brake
38:44 brake
38:46 start your truck
38:48 to build the air quicker we're going to
38:51 hit the accelerator a little bit to
38:53 around 10 or 12 RPM and we're going to
38:56 move that air pressure to build much
39:30 [Music] foreign
39:32 foreign [Music]
40:00 trucks the air pressure takes longer to
40:02 build than other trucks
40:05 so we got to get to at least 100 PSI of
40:08 air at the minimum or more before we
40:10 start the service rate test [Music]
40:34 now that we're around 100 PSI of air
40:38 working to do our service brake test
40:40 the way we do that we put our foot on
40:42 the service brake put the vehicle in
40:45 Drive release the parking brakes now
40:47 we're going to accelerate to about five
40:49 miles per hour or 10 or 20 feet and see
40:51 if the service brake actually stops the vehicle
40:58 we're going about five miles per hour
41:00 I'm gonna hit the service brake
41:03 it did stop the vehicle also the vehicle
41:06 did not sway from left to right or right
41:10 to left to indicate a suspension problem
41:11 now we're going to put the vehicle
41:13 neutral pull both parking brakes out
41:16 next we're going to test our parking
41:18 brakes we'll start off with a tractor
41:21 brake we're going to put our foot on the
41:23 service brake put the vehicle in Drive
41:26 release a trailer brake to test the
41:29 tractor brake leave the tractor brake on
41:31 I'm going to hit the accelerator a little
41:32 little
41:34 to make sure that the parking brake for
41:37 the tractor holds it does hold we're not
41:38 going anywhere
41:40 now I'm going to put my foot back on the
41:41 surface brake
41:44 pull out the trailer brake
41:46 push in the tractor brake now we're
41:48 going to test the parking brake on the
41:51 trailer same thing get your foot off the
41:53 service brake hit the accelerator a
41:54 little bit
41:56 to make sure we're now moving and we are
41:58 not so it's kind of a tug test to make
42:00 sure that your parking brakes do work
42:02 now we're going to put our vehicle back
42:03 in neutral
42:06 pull the brakes back out
42:08 now I feel that I have completed my
42:11 entire pre-trip exam properly
42:12 and I'm going to tell my examiner I'm
42:15 done with the exam now if you do
42:17 something wrong you forgot an item you
42:19 can go back to it your examiner will let
42:21 you do that also on the lab test if you
42:23 did something wrong
42:25 you forgot to do your leak or your
42:28 alarms or buttons ask the examiner can I
42:30 restart my laptops they will let you
42:33 restart the lab test start your truck
42:34 build your air restart it from scratch
42:37 so we have completed the in-cab
42:39 inspection and that's your pre-trip on
42:41 the class a tractor trailer thanks for watching
