Rabbisrohli sodri wayassirli amri wahlul uqdatan min lisani yafqohu qauli.
God bless students. One day some of the companions of the Prophet
Muhammad sallallahu alaihi wasallam chose to stay in the mosque.
They worship day and night without working, without making any effort.
They feel sufficient with prayer and also with dhikr.
But Rasulullah sallallahu alaihi wasallam rebuked him.
He said that the hand above is more noble
than the hand below. That strong Muslims
are more loved by Allah than weak Muslims.
This is about three friends who want to worship to the extreme.
However, the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) rebuked him
and said, "Whoever
dislikes my Sunnah is not one of me." Hadith narrated by Bukhari.
Students whom Allah has blessed. Reflecting on this hadith is the beginning
of our discussion this time, namely about the concept of humans and
their duties related to the caliphate on this earth.
If we reflect deeply, we agree that as long as this world exists,
the discussion about humans seems endless.
And discussing human existence
is interesting. Isn't it because humans exist that
the dynamics of science and technology continue to occur?
Until the results of science and technology can create a
civilization. But the real contemplation is
whether Allah has then calculated it perfectly?
Clearly, Allah has calculated it perfectly.
So where is that calculation? One of the calculations is found
in the Quran, Surah Al-Baqarah, verse 30, where an extraordinary dialogue takes place
between Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala and an angel. The angel
asks, "Why is this world intended for humans?"
Students whom Allah has blessed. After we reflect on the hadith and
how surah Albaqarah verse 30 underlies
our discussion this time, in future discussions we will together achieve
the goal of this meeting, namely understanding the concept of man and
the duties of his caliphate from an Islamic perspective.
In the Qur'an we find two words that represent
the limits of the concept of humans. The first thing
we will know is what is called the century concept
or better known as Abdillah. The word Abad emphasizes the position of humans
as servants of Allah Subhanahu wa Taala in the concept of ubudiyah.
The implication of the amad concept is that humans have the duty to serve in
the form of worshiping Allah. Quran surah Azzariyat verse 56 confirms
and is a strong argument regarding this matter.
There Allah said, "And I did not create jinn and humans
except to worship me."
Quran surah Albayyinah verse 5 further strengthens the concept of humans within the limits of
this abdillah. There Allah says, "In fact, they are not ordered except
to worship Allah by purifying their obedience to Him and practicing
a straight religion. The students whom Allah blesses.
Meanwhile, in the second word we are familiar with the concept of khalifatullah.
And this concept is an important focus in our discussion this time.
As we have discussed in the perception narrative section,
the allocation of the earth to humans has given rise to an interesting dialogue between
Allah Subhanahu wa Taala and angels. As emphasized in
the Koran surah Albaqarah. verse 30. But at the end Allah closed the dialogue with
the sentence, we know what you do not know.
If you think about it deeply, Allah's affirmation indicates
that in fact there is a secret within humans, namely a potential that
is not possessed by creatures other than humans.
In this secret potential
there are rights and obligations
as well as limitations so that the progress of this civilization can always be maintained
positively
think about managing this universe and are also obliged to
think about managing it in accordance with the will of Allah Subhanahu wa taala.
So from these two concepts about rights and obligations,
we will know about things that
humans must avoid. Regarding this, Allah Subhanahu wa
taala warns in several verses of the Qur'an. For example, in the Koran, Surah
Albaqarah verse 11 and verse 205. Surah Al-A'raf verses 56 and 71,
Surah Al-Qasas verse 77, Surah Ar-Rum verse 41 and
other surahs. God bless students, then
why are humans the creatures sent to be caliphs?
In connection with this discussion, we will focus on four important things.
First, because humans have the ability to continue to know the names,
properties and functions of objects in this universe.
And humans are also able to use it in their lives.
This is as confirmed by Allah in the Koran surah Albaqarah verse
21. Then secondly,
Allah has subjected the earth and sky and everything in them to humans.
As Allah affirms in the Quran Surah Al-Jasiyah verse 12 and also verse
13. Third,
humans have the potential of reason and five senses. As this is explained
in the Quran Surah Al-Mulk verse 23. Fourth, humans have the
positive power to change the pattern of life in this world. As emphasized in
the Quran Surah Ar-Ra'du verse 11. Students whom Allah has blessed,
so that potential can be developed according to Allah's will, there are
important things that humans must pay attention
to. This discussion at least four important things that must be considered.
First is faith.
This is as emphasized in the Quran Surah Annur verse 55. There Allah
affirms, "And Allah has promised those who believe among
you and do righteous deeds that He will indeed
make them rulers on this earth."
Second is knowledge as emphasized in the Quran Surah Ar-Rahman verse 33.
O jinn and mankind, if you are able to penetrate the regions of the heavens
and the earth, then penetrate. You will not be able to penetrate it
except with strength." The commentators mean by strength here
is science and technology. And this is an
important limitation as a khalifatullah.
Third, the obligation of humans is not
to decide based on lust. As in the Qur'an, Surah Asad,
verse 26. O David, indeed we
have made you a khalifa on this earth. So judge a matter between
people with justice. And do not follow your lusts because it will
lead you astray from the path of Allah Subhanahu wa taala. Fourth,
oriented towards the benefit or what we know as makruf also
avoids damage or munkar. In the last session, namely the closing session,
let us reflect and conclude that humans in the two concepts as
abdillah and in the concept as khalifatullah
in both have different implications in their duties and roles.
However, it turns out that we have discussed well that the implementation of both
must be done synergistically and harmoniously.
This means that the duties of humans as khalifa on this earth must be played in
the context of devotion to Allah Subhanahu wa taala. This is where the important reflection
that the character values that It is very important for humans to carry out
performance character, which is then displayed in the form of
behavior that is not greedy, not selfish, and moral character displayed
in the form of justice, honesty, and mutual respect for others.
Thus, these two sides of character can ultimately give birth to
other characters, namely the character of caring for the environment and caring for others.
Dear students, that concludes our discussion this time.
May God bless the knowledge of what has been discussed today. I
apologize for any errors and mistakes.
May we also pray that the joint preparatory activities of Universitas Pajajaran
in the odd semester of the 2025-2026 academic year
for undergraduate and applied undergraduate levels will always be blessed by God.
Subhanahu wa taala. Billahi fisabilil haq. Wasalamualaikum
