0:02 if you've been doing tons of research on
0:04 how to build an etsy plus print on
0:07 demand business but we're intimidated on
0:09 what to do first and how to actually
0:11 open your shop open your print my
0:13 account and get them connected then this
0:16 video is for you in today's video i'll
0:18 be doing a quick start guide on how to
0:20 start your print-on-demand business in
0:24 three simple steps i'll walk you through
0:25 naming your store
0:28 opening your etsy store and then opening
0:30 your printfy account and getting it
0:32 connected that way you can go ahead and
0:34 get started with your business all in
0:35 one day
0:37 now just in case you're not familiar
0:40 with what print on demand is print on
0:43 demand is when you use a company like
0:46 my favorite print on demand company and
0:48 you actually make the designs for all
0:50 your products but then you go ahead and
0:53 put them digitally on one of the
0:55 products that printfy has to offer like
0:59 t-shirts sweatshirts tote bags or mugs
1:01 and that item only gets made when
1:04 someone actually purchases it from your store
1:05 store
1:07 when someone purchases say a shirt that
1:10 you made digitally with your design from
1:13 your etsy shop printfy automatically
1:16 receives that order prints it for you
1:18 sends it to your customer and even
1:21 updates the tracking number for you so
1:23 all you have to do is make the designs
1:26 and do the customer service this is
1:28 really one of the lowest barrier to
1:31 entry businesses i've ever seen that you
1:34 can start online it's definitely not 100
1:37 free but make sure to subscribe because
1:39 next week's video i'll go into all of
1:42 the different costs to expect when
1:44 starting your etsy and print on demand store
1:45 store
1:47 i know starting your own etsy business
1:49 and selling print on demand sounds
1:51 really intimidating and there's so many
1:53 steps so what i want to do in this video
1:56 is just break it down step by step for
1:59 you to make it more digestible you're
2:01 not going to learn and master everything
2:04 in one day all you can do is take one
2:06 baby step forward every single day and
2:08 in just a few months you won't believe
2:11 how far you've come so even if you're
2:14 not ready to start selling on etsy yet
2:16 today go ahead and pause this video and
2:19 actually follow along and open your shop
2:21 because if you get this piece of it done
2:23 and out of the way then when you are
2:25 ready to start stocking your shop with
2:27 lots of great things for sale it will
2:30 just be that much easier
2:32 before we jump into the step-by-step
2:34 tutorial i do want to go ahead and bust
2:37 two etsy myths that get a lot of new
2:39 people stuck in the beginning and the
2:41 first myth i want to bust is that you
2:43 have to actually do a launch of your
2:47 etsy store and have 10 15 20 items for
2:49 sale right when you list it and this is
2:52 just absolutely not true
2:55 etsy is a search engine based platform
2:57 so most people already have some kind of
2:59 idea of what they're looking for when
3:01 they come to etsy they type what they're
3:03 interested in in the search bar they
3:05 look through all the search results of
3:07 you and the competition they click on
3:10 one and they buy it without ever going
3:12 to someone's etsy store so i like to
3:14 think of each individual listing as its
3:17 own etsy shop and you really can get
3:19 sales in your store even if you have
3:22 just one listing and there's no better
3:24 way to learn than by getting things up
3:26 for sale and seeing what gets views and
3:28 what people buy
3:30 if you make tons of products without
3:32 getting any feedback then you won't know
3:34 if you're on the right track or not so
3:36 go ahead and just get started even if
3:39 you've never created anything before
3:41 the second myth that i want to bust is
3:44 that you have to pick one specific niche
3:47 before you open your etsy shop and if
3:49 you're not familiar with the word niche
3:52 a niche is a specific type of design
3:55 like maybe a teacher coffee or cats all
3:57 of those are different niches that you
4:00 could sell on apparel products and a lot
4:01 of people online will tell you that you
4:04 have to pick just one niche and i'm here
4:06 to tell you that that is absolutely a
4:09 myth again since etsy is a search engine
4:12 based platform i really recommend that
4:14 you open something called a general
4:17 store and sell lots of different niches
4:18 within your store
4:20 that's what i built my etsy business
4:22 with and i have hundreds of different
4:25 niches in my store and that's really
4:28 allowed me to build a really consistent
4:31 income that i can pay all of my family's
4:34 bills january to december and there's
4:36 very few individual niches that are that
4:39 popular all year round so i think it
4:41 really does make more sense to get into
4:44 lots of different niches so don't feel
4:46 like you have to pick just one right in
4:48 the beginning again just get started and
4:50 if you're new here my name is cassie
4:53 johnson and i'm a full-time etsy seller
4:56 and now etsy youtuber i started my etsy
4:58 shop just under two and a half years ago
5:01 and have sold over 600 000
5:04 worth of print on demand products in my
5:06 etsy store to date so let's go ahead and
5:08 jump in and i'll show you exactly how i
5:09 got started
5:12 so first you need to go ahead and open
5:15 up an etsy account so what you'll do is
5:18 go to the link in my description to get
5:20 40 free listings and this is the page
5:23 that it'll bring you to if you use my
5:25 link you get 40 free listings which is
5:28 eight dollars for free just for you you
5:30 can just go to etsy.com and open your
5:33 account there but you won't get any free
5:35 listing so go ahead and click open a
5:38 shop today and that will bring you to
5:40 some questions that etsy has about why
5:42 you're starting a business feel free to
5:44 just skip these but if you do answer
5:46 them they will give you additional
5:49 resources and information
5:50 so then you'll go ahead and fill out
5:53 your shop preferences so this is really
5:55 just what language do you speak what
5:57 country do you live in and what currency
5:58 are you using [Music]
5:59 [Music]
6:01 and then we'll get to the spot where you
6:04 have to name your store so what's nice
6:07 is they do have a box here where you can
6:09 enter in different words and they'll
6:12 give you similar options below so you
6:14 can type in any random word that you
6:15 like anything that you've ever been
6:17 called in the past and they'll give you
6:20 ideas at the bottom of like studio store
6:23 boutique goods and different great names
6:25 after it and really i would recommend
6:28 not getting hung up on this piece of it
6:31 it is not that important which shop name
6:34 you choose again since etsy is a search
6:37 engine based platform most people never
6:39 even pay attention to the name of your store
6:40 store
6:42 feel free to go to etsy.com and look
6:44 through some of the names of other etsy
6:47 shops to get some inspiration i even had
6:50 one friend who picked a store name based
6:53 off of a paint color so really don't
6:55 overthink this step
6:56 just go ahead and choose something and
6:58 then they'll tell you once it is
7:01 actually an approved name now one thing
7:03 i will tell you is you may want to go
7:06 ahead and open up a new gmail account
7:09 with a new email because etsy shoppers
7:11 can potentially message you on whatever
7:14 email you create your account with so do
7:16 make sure that you open this with an
7:18 account that you're comfortable with
7:20 customers seeing so if you're not
7:22 comfortable with that then go ahead and
7:24 actually open up a new gmail account
7:27 before going further with this step
7:29 so then essay actually won't let you
7:31 open your shop without creating a
7:34 listing first so don't be intimidated by
7:36 this what we're going to do is actually
7:39 fill this out as a dummy listing and
7:41 then we are going to delete it because
7:43 this is not how we will create listings
7:45 in the future since we're selling print
7:48 on demand so what i'll show you next is
7:50 how to actually open your printify
7:52 account which is my preferred print
7:55 provider to use for my print on demand
7:57 products and will actually start the
8:01 listings in printify every time so this
8:03 is again just a dummy listing so first
8:06 it's going to ask you to add a photo so
8:08 i went ahead and added a random photo
8:10 that i had on my computer so really
8:12 don't overthink this just pick any
8:14 random picture you can even just get one
8:16 off of google and you're going to delete
8:18 this right when you log in so no big deal
8:20 deal
8:22 so then you need to fill out the listing
8:24 details so only fill out what has these
8:27 little asterisks here so you can just
8:29 type something in the title you need to
8:31 say i made it you're going to change
8:33 this to it's a finished product and when
8:36 did you make it it is made to order
8:38 and then you need to type in a category
8:42 i just went ahead and typed in t-shirts
8:43 the next mandatory is the renewal
8:45 options you can go ahead and just click
8:48 manual it's a physical item and then
8:50 just type really anything into the
8:51 description you're just going to give it
8:53 any kind of price i just went ahead and
8:55 made it a dollar
8:57 and then for the shipping options i just
8:59 went ahead and said i'll enter the fixed
9:02 prices manually you'll put in just your
9:04 zip code again this is not the real
9:08 information we will delete this later
9:10 and then down at the bottom you'll click
9:12 usps first class mail that was just the
9:14 first one there and do free shipping and
9:17 then go ahead and click publish so now
9:19 it's saying great job on your first
9:21 listing so then you'll need to fill out
9:24 how you'll get paid so i would recommend
9:25 going ahead and saying you are just an
9:28 individual if you don't already have an
9:30 llc set up for your business which you
9:32 don't need in the beginning don't
9:33 overthink that piece of it and then
9:35 you'll go ahead and fill out all your
9:37 personal details the next page you'll
9:40 set up your billing profile so this is
9:41 just going to be what account they'll
9:44 take payments out of when you owe any
9:46 money to etsy if you ever do and then
9:48 you'll fill out your shop security and i
9:50 would really recommend setting up two
9:54 factor authentication to make sure that
9:56 no one can ever log into your account
9:59 without first texting your phone a
10:00 security code
10:02 and then on the billing page you will
10:04 need to go ahead and verify your bank
10:06 account as well with a company called
10:08 plaid where they send a few cents to
10:10 your bank account to verify it and then
10:13 you enter that number into etsy so then
10:15 you're going to want to actually set up
10:18 your entire etsy profile so you'll make
10:21 yourself a banner make yourself a logo
10:24 fill out your about me your frequently
10:27 asked questions and your shop policies
10:29 now i do have a full in-depth tutorial
10:31 of that already on my channel so i'm
10:32 going to go ahead and link that down
10:35 below for you to watch next
10:37 so now we are on to the next step of
10:40 opening and connecting your printify
10:43 account to etsy so there is again a link
10:46 in the description below for printify it
10:47 does help support my channel when you
10:49 use those links so feel free to go to
10:53 printify.com or use the link down below
10:56 and you'll go ahead and click sign up so
10:59 you want to use the same email that you
11:01 used for your etsy account that way all
11:03 of your business information is in one email
11:04 email
11:06 and then once you log in you will be
11:09 walked through a store setup checklist
11:11 so you'll want to go ahead and add your
11:14 personal details add your store name etc
11:16 so what that'll look like is you'll
11:18 actually click this button up here and
11:20 click go to manage stores
11:22 and then it'll bring you to this stores
11:24 page and you'll want to go ahead and
11:27 click add a new store to connect your
11:30 etsy account to printify so here on this
11:32 page you'll select that you want to
11:34 connect your etsy account you'll go
11:37 ahead and log into the etsy account that
11:39 you just made and it's going to go ahead
11:42 and ask permission to connect to the two
11:44 and then you'll go back to printify once
11:46 that is all set up
11:47 so then you'll go ahead and come here
11:49 and click on this little green circle
11:51 and we're going to set up a few settings
11:53 that you want to make sure to have set
11:55 up when you first open your printify
11:57 account so first you want to go ahead
11:59 and set up your payment details so
12:02 you'll come here to payments on the side
12:03 so here you're going to go ahead and add
12:06 whatever credit card or debit card that
12:08 you'd like to use to pay for the print
12:10 on demand shirts that people order in
12:13 your store so just in case you weren't
12:15 familiar with how the process works
12:18 you'll get a sale on etsy
12:20 etsy will take out their etsy fees and
12:23 pay you the difference of what's left
12:25 and then you need to actually pay for
12:28 the shirt to get made and shipped to
12:31 your customer and then you get to keep
12:34 the difference so etsy pays you and you
12:38 pay printify you are the middleman and
12:40 so this card that you put here on file
12:42 you'll be paying for the shirts or other
12:44 items that you sell plus the shipping
12:47 cost to get it to your customer i would
12:50 recommend going ahead and opening up a
12:53 cashback credit card if you're able to
12:55 because that way you can get cash back
12:57 on every purchase that you make for your business
12:58 business
12:59 so then we want to go ahead and set up
13:03 the rest of your etsy store on printify
13:06 so you'll go ahead and go to my stores
13:07 and you'll go ahead and click this
13:09 little gear button to go ahead and edit
13:10 your store
13:13 so that'll bring you to this screen here
13:14 and you want to go ahead and just type
13:17 in the name of your etsy store and this
13:19 is actually going to be shown on the
13:21 shipping bags that'll say that's who it
13:24 shipped from on the shipping labels
13:26 for the shipping address which is right
13:29 below here that you'll click on you want
13:31 to go ahead and use the printify default
13:33 instead of your own address that's how i
13:35 have mine set up
13:38 and then the last one your preferences
13:40 you'll go ahead and say for order
13:42 routing i like to leave this off so
13:44 order routing is when something is out
13:47 of stock they go ahead and actually
13:49 select a different print company to
13:52 fulfill that item for you i personally
13:55 prefer not to do it this way i do have a
13:58 full video explaining why and the other
14:00 tips and tricks with printify so i'll
14:02 link that down below that's the five
14:04 things that i wish i knew before using
14:06 printify but for right now i'll tell you
14:09 to just leave order routing off and then
14:10 you can watch that video next if you
14:12 want to know why
14:14 and then for order approval i like to
14:16 have my orders go through at the same
14:20 time every day at 10 a.m so if i get 10
14:22 orders today they don't actually get
14:25 sent to production until 10 a.m tomorrow
14:27 and that's when my card gets charged all
14:29 at once and they start actually
14:31 producing my items the reason i don't
14:33 have them go through automatically in
14:36 say one hour is because sometimes people
14:38 will message you wanting to change
14:40 something like the size or the color or
14:43 cancel and it can be difficult to cancel
14:46 an order once it's already in production
14:48 so i do have it just go at the same time
14:51 every single day all at once at 10 a.m
14:52 and then you want to come down to the
14:56 bottom and just go ahead and click save
14:58 now if you're a total beginner i do have
15:00 four videos that i recommend watching next
15:01 next
15:04 first is my branding your shop video i
15:06 mentioned this one earlier it's going to
15:08 show you how to make your logo your
15:11 banner and fill out all of your etsy
15:13 policies the next one i'd watch is the
15:16 five things i wish i knew before using
15:19 printfy just so you are well informed
15:21 and know what to expect when using this
15:22 print company
15:24 my third one i'm going to recommend is
15:27 how to actually price your print on
15:29 demand products so how to see how much
15:31 you're actually going to pay for that
15:33 product what you should price it for
15:35 based on what your competition is and
15:37 know exactly how much profit you'll be
15:40 making after all the etsy fees and the
15:44 fourth video is the best one of all this
15:47 is my one stop shop video i show you how
15:50 to find a design to make that's a best
15:52 seller on etsy i show you how to
15:55 actually make a few different versions
15:57 so you have your own unique spin on that
16:00 design i show you how to make mock-ups
16:02 the pretty pictures that make your shirt
16:04 look like it's already real how to find
16:07 your title your tags how to list it on
16:10 printify and how to list it so it is for
16:13 sale and all finished so that will be
16:15 the perfect one that ties it all
16:17 together and shows you exactly what to
16:19 do next so make sure to watch those
16:22 videos down below and go ahead and like
16:24 this video and subscribe if you're
16:27 excited about getting started with your
16:29 etsy print on demand business
16:32 i also offer one-on-one coaching calls
16:34 and etsy shop reviews if you're not sure
16:37 if you're setting things up right or you
16:38 just want someone to help walk you
16:40 through the process the link to those
16:42 will be down in the description if you'd
16:44 like to work with me one-on-one feel
16:46 free to go ahead and purchase one of
16:48 those i appreciate you watching this all
16:50 the way until the end and i'll see you
