hi my name is jonathan dunn and this is the
the
second in a series of short talks called
called
i have in front of me a photo
photo
of a tree
the tree has the trunk going upwards and
then it
divides into the different branches that
are beginning to bud
and i think the tree is very symbolic
symbolic
of what must happen to the ego
in this life the ego is quite
unyielding quite obstinate
obstinate
like the trunk of a tree it has
no way in no way out it just stands
there and resists
but somehow that trunk has to
divide into branches which
develop buds which become
flowers which give rise to fruit
so i think really in front of us
we have an example of what must happen
to the ego
ego
in this life it has to divide
divide flour
flour fruit
fruit
it cannot just remain
an object line
line
and we looked in the first video
at how this uh line
uh divides us one from another and leads
to conflict
and really comes from the idea of the
author that things begin with us this is
what enables us to draw a line and to
say that from this point
it's mine
whereas if you take the view that we are
translators which is the view that i take
take
then things pass through you they do not
begin with you and i think it's a very important
important
mental shift that we need to make that
things do not begin with us
they pass through us
now we saw in the first video
how god am created
created
a countable noun an
an
he drew a line around us so that
while we're still contained within him
we are able to make our own choices we
have free will
we on the other hand
uh have been born
into this world and
we really
set about drawing lines around things
packaging them
in order to deal in them
to trade to make a profit so our
motivation is very different and don't
forget that it's this definition this drawing
drawing
a line
around that makes something countable
that causes all the problems to our
environment because it's the packaging
what's left behind after the product has
been consumed
that pollutes
our environment
uh our land are
oceans so it's this idea of the
countable noun that draw a line around
something so that you can count what's
coming in and what's going out
is really what's causing so many problems
problems
so
i think in
human life in human history there is
a progression very important for me fundamental
fundamental from
from a
a
to i to
to o
a is creation it's the beginning of the alphabet
alphabet am
am created
created an
an
uh a countable noun a
separate human being in as far as it is
possible to be separate from god look at
the name of the first man
man adam
adam
again we have the letter a if you read
adam in reverse it spells made
so i think a refers to
the creation i
i
refers to the ego the full
where we are
now that is many egos all with our own
desires our own will
will all
all
pulling quite often in separate directions
directions
and we need to move away from the ego uh
uh and
and
open the line so that we
make the progression from i to
to o
o
the o is an open line it's like a
plastic bag and you
blow air and it opens it's also
realization where you suddenly say oh
oh
like you've suddenly understood
something and this
progression from a to i to o
can be found in language let's look at
the uh
question words what
what
in creation
what are you going to call this when god
asks adam to name the creatures
why is very much the question word of
the full why should i do this
why should i believe you and
and who
who [Music]
[Music]
is the question we should be asking who
who [Music]
so what why
why who
who
contains this progression a i o
o
let's look at another example amen
amen
if you acquiesce to god's will
for example in the creation god asks
adam to name the creatures and he does
this he says amen [Music]
[Music]
our men with the letters rearranged spells
spells mean
mean and
and name
name
so he named the creatures he gave them meaning
meaning
but if you make the progression from a
to i
instead of saying amen you say
mine you take possession you say what is
here even though i didn't create it it
was here before i was born
is mine you make yourself the author
and that's very much
what's happening at the moment
if you make the progression then from i
to o
mine becomes nemo
nemo
the latin word for
no one and that is a reference to god
the father as we shall see in the next video
video
there are many examples this progression
from i to o
for example look at a fundamental word
like live
if you turn live around if you pervert
it somehow you get evil
evil
live back to front is
is
evil but if you make the progression
from i to o if you
open the ego and allow it to
flower and to fruit it becomes love
the eye of live
becomes the o of
of love
sin
is where we indulge our own selfish
desires at the expense of the other
again if you open the ego that becomes son
son
you become a child of
of god
god
so it's very important to understand
this progression from a to i to o you
cannot go back to the garden of eden
you cannot go from a to i and then back
to a
you must move
forward from a to i
to o
and this progression a i o is at the
basis of
language it can be seen in
many words but it requires
a certain spiritual vision you need to
be able to
see it it's a little hidden
hidden
perhaps we'll be able to look at that a
so the ego is a line just like the
number one
because we don't start counting from
zero which is the o
that's where we should be
we start counting from one from the ego and
and
the three ways as far as i can see of
moving away from the line
that divides us as human beings [Music]
[Music] are
are
where we make reference to a third point
and we bring god into the conversation
the cross
where we draw a line through the ego the
cross is basically
and the circle
where we
open the line
or if you like
we treat the line as a number one
and we count down
to zero so
so
i think
that the three ways of moving
away from the line
are the triangle we make reference to a
third point
the cross we draw
a line through the line we cross the line
line
and the circle we
we open
open
the line
these are the three ways the three symbols
symbols
that represent ways of moving away from
from the
the ego
ego
now i wonder if you can see anything
anything here
here
uh i wonder if we can
make these letters for example
the triangle is very close to the letter
capital letter a
so i shall draw a
a
underneath the triangle
the cross while it is a symbol of suffering
suffering
is also a plus sign and i think this is
what christ means when he says
you must lose your life the cross
in order to find it the plus
so the cross
and this is the paradox of christianity
is also a
plus sign i think paradox is a sign
and the
circle is the letter o
o
so the three symbols we talked about for
moving away from the line
give us a
a and
and [Music]
[Music] o
o
this is the name
of god alpha
alpha and
and omega
omega
so when we move
away from the ego
we necessarily move
move
towards god
and this is why uh
the words ego and god
are only separated by a step in the alphabet
alphabet d
d
to e
a and o
o alpha
alpha and
and omega
and what's very interesting for me is that
that
in the middle conjunction
conjunction
and between alpha omega
omega and
and
you have the same three symbols if you
write and
in capital letters you have a
you have n
n
which is used
to represent and
and
in for example rock and roll
and you have the letter
d which is a capital d is very similar
to a capital o
in the middle conjunction
and you've got a
a um
um o
o
a n o
alpha and omega so it is
a plus
when we give ourselves
to god
we lose our life in order to find it
and it is in our
dna to do this
it is part of our makeup
to be
with god and this is why and
in reverse reads dna
dna
so when we move away from the line we
form three symbols triangle cross
cross circle
circle
these three symbols can be read
a and
o which is the name of god in the book
of revelation alpha
alpha and
and
omega and these three symbols are found
in the very common
conjunction and
which in reverse reads dna
now
there are
uh in europe
uh that we study uh the latin alphabet
that we use
and the greek alphabet which would stand
for philosophy and theology
theology
the greek alphabet
makes this progression that i was
talking about earlier from a
to i to
to
o because the last letter of the greek
alphabet is
omega which is a long o
o
the greek alphabet
makes this progression
a to i to
to o
o
but the latin alphabet that we use in
the west which might be taken to
represent rationalism
reliance on the self trade
trade
making money
does not make this progression the latin alphabet
alphabet
goes from a to
to i
i to
to zed
zed
now zed
very closely resembles the number two
two
so while the greek alphabet which
represents philosophy and theology counts
counts down
down
it goes a to i
to o one
one to
to zero
zero
the latin alphabet which represents
rationalism reliance on the self
trade counts up
it goes from a to
to i
i to
to z
z
or one
to two
when you start to count up
when you start to count your riches
there is no end you will never
reach the end and this is the problem we
face in the world today
how to resolve this problem of
of production
production
the economy
pollution the environment
we don't in a way know how to stop when
the answer
is right behind us
all we need to do is not go from one to two
two
but from one to zero when you reach zero you
you
stop you find rest
rest
you are at
at peace
peace
and i would like to look at
the letter zero in greater depth in the
next video and in particular the concept
of the trinity
trinity
father son and holy spirit another
another
christian paradox how can god
be three in
in one
one
it doesn't seem to make sense that but
