oncology as I learned very painfully I
didn't know what the word meant but I
learned that very painfully it deals
with cancer when I first consulted an
oncologist for my father's condition but
he is like a missionary in the medical
world he started this organization
called cleansing but very importantly
he's bringing him he's kind of deploying
cutting-edge robotic technology in
oncological surgery so that is really
cutting edge now yesterday morning
onwards dr. Chinna Babu son Cavalli was
messaging us saying please pray there's
a patient who's struggling for his life
and he messages and said it looks
doesn't look very promising now but
afternoon he said he's surviving he's
doing better
I've never seen a doctor who's so
passionately involved in a patient's
recovery journey give him a big hand
welcome him on stage dr. Chinna Babu
thank you for making your time to be

God and organizers for having given me
this opportunity to share my life story
I'm bit nervous even as I see such a
August gathering here so it won't be a
modesty to confess the same but what is
more important is that God has made me a
masterpiece would that sound good do you
think that a my boss think whatever the
emcee has introduced I believe God has
done not only that has done much more
than that to me I would say that I'm
more than what's been spoken off because
I am uniquely created as a masterpiece
by the master himself so God has taken
me you know from Hamlet to Hilton for an
utter most rural village which doesn't
have a road connectivity even today
it doesn't have a cement road today the
population of the village is less than
150 wherein I need to walk three
kilometres to go to my school barefoot
that kind of situation
God has lifted me up to work in the best
hospitals in the country today this is
because of the one word that is reminded
of what Paul says in Ephesians chapter 2
was 10 that this is because we are
created as a masterpiece for the good
works that God wants us to do which are
ordained to us before time in eternity
past God decided where I would be where
I would be working with what purpose I
would be working with what integrity
I'll be working with what kind of
excellence I will be showing in the
marketplace that has been predestinated
and decided by the Lord Himself so with
that in that prospect if I have to look
back and see me becoming a doctor was
not even in the remote radar of my
parents as I said before this is the
house know which this picture is taken
in the year probably 2010 or so imagine
20 years back or 25 years back what kind
of situation in which I was in we had
humble beginnings you know but I'm not
complaining about it I'm happy about it
the way the Lord has brought me up I
don't have any regrets for it but what's
more important is that not even a higher
education was possible in my village not
a single student went to reach a higher
education in the village I was happy
going to the school barefoot walking and
then I used to help my parents in the
forum I was given the responsibility of
grazing the cattle in the field I'm not
I'm not sure how many have you had this
experience but in one of the urban and
one of those early days we're back you
know when I was 10 years old I used to
do the chopping of the grass to feed the
cattle so even as I was excellent in
cutting the grass when I say that when I
say that when I say that when I was
cutting the grass I was so much soul you know
know
in cutting the grass that there was a
day when when I was cutting the grass I
happened to unknowingly cut the frontal
and the rear part of head and the tail
of a Cobra so that's that's how my
journey as a surgeon began when I was in
the field place god for it so how could
I become a doctor something big happen
in my life when I say big it is cosmic
when I say big there are key players
involved in making what I am today so no
no firstly I had a praying mother
he was the first I come from a Hindu
background she the first in the family
who knew the Lord personally and she was
a passionate lay missionary pastor she
was ministering in the villages in Davao
Gary Karnataka so she was the one who
was praying that her children would be
raised to in such a way that they would
bring glory to God's name I do not know
for what I don't know if she really
really ever prayed that I should become
a doctor but all that she prayed you
know in her own know her own language is
that I should think glory to God's name
so she was an element or I would say an
ardent prayer warriors so a praying
mother's role does have a significance
in in in your upbringing so what she
what else she could do other than just
praying I would say that you know she
kept on kneeling down early in the
morning at 4 o'clock pray fervently so
that our children are blessed even as we
had a very humble living secondly I had
a teacher who believed in me
a teacher who thought that this boy is
not meant for greater cattle or cutting
the grass I'm not belittling foremost I
respect them but he thought that I am
meant for something greater purpose than
doing what I was doing
thirdly I had somebody called by name
Rajiv Gandhi he happened he happened to
the Prime Minister of the country at
that point of time and he realized at
that point that people like me children
who were in villages needed to be
educated well resources to be provided
for them
that's when he got the idea of bringing
the concept of now what here with doraleous

in the year 1986 I had the desire to
write the exam but the teacher said they
selected five students to write the exam
because that the first time this was
introduced the next day the teacher come
back comes back and says out of the five
three are disqualified only two are
eligible to write the exam I had a
desire in my heart that I also should
write but didn't have the boldness to
stand up and ask that I would write the
exam here in just when they were closing
their session a teacher a world teacher
by name J up I entered the school enters
my classroom he looks at me and says why
not this boy also write this exam dear
friends who sent him there he is God who
is in control of every situation and he
sent him so that I would be one among
those who write that exam and here and
here it goes I was the only one who was
selected for the Nadia school way back
in 1986 so now back to the word
masterpiece which I mentioned before to
craft me professionally as what I am
today God set my mother on prayer God
sent a teacher who believed in me and
who encouraged me and also God moved the
Indian government to resource for
education so God having great purposes
for each one of us he also makes sure
that he will provide the necessary
resources for us to accomplish what he
has planned for us even if it meant that
the heart of the Prime Minister has to
be moved that is possible with God so
God's purposes are fueled by God's resources
resources
he doesn't purpose anything for you we
thought a source without a resource in
your life now I want you to pause for a
moment and think in a win your heart
about how what are the key people who
played a role in your life who are more
resourceful for you in Europe bringing
now think of some people in whose life
can you be a source of influence in you
know in your office in the workplace you
can be a source of influence to somebody
maybe to prayer maybe just an
encouragement or made with some
resourcing my friends God can initiate
not only nationally scale but
internationally scaled projects with you
if you are available for him God is
looking for vessels and to honor
set apart for the Masters use he wants
to use you in a big way and he wants to
provide all the resources for you my
friends I would quickly touch upon the
integrity issues in my workplace in
violin Yin true greatness can never be
accomplished without integrity I came to
know the gospel substantially well when
I was doing medicine that's when that
the biggest miracle ever happen in my
life today but the director of applause
will ask me what is the secret of you
being happy all the time I see you
smiling all the time what is the secret
I say it is inner engineering done by
Jesus Christ so even if I have not
accomplished what I've accomplished I
still am the son of God that the biggest
thing for me and I can say that
education can make me a doctor but the
Christian ethics the Christian morals
would make me a good doctor there's a
lot of difference especially in the
present era of commercialization you
know what it means to be a doctor and a
good doctor so I did well in the school
and God took me to the medical school
by His grace and you know a village boy
a cowboy going to a medical school was a
big thing and everybody celebrated in
the village and you know in the medical
college it wasn't easy I was the one who
was nicknamed by my students as Gandhi
because in the first year I accepted
Jesus as my savior and that's
my life change and you know in a medical
college what is more important knowing
those days was money were the top
priority influence luck and last comes
knowledge as far as me is concerned
Jesus was my milk
he was my milk formula and once you
finish MBBS you are in Crossroads
because I had humble beginnings I had a
tough time to convince that I need to
prepare for posterization exams
everybody said you should get a
government job and work for the family
earn some money for the family the
well-meaning friends respective in their
tough times many people will come to
advise give you free advice so so much
so it happened that they took me to the
then Chief Minister of Karnataka JH
Modell's house I went to his room and
that's where he calls the kpac chairman
asking him to give a job for me for ESA
government job and here a chief mr.
calls and the interim with the questions
asked to move are nothing about the
subject the Chairman was asking
everything about politics he thought
that I am a good politically connected
person he asked me about how many MLA MP
suits you have there in Karnataka but I
never knew any of them but you know in
God's plan I was not destined for that
he saw to it that in the paperwork I was
disqualified so you know Chief Minister
wanted me to work there it was not in
God's plan for me and then God spoke to
me clearly through acts 1:8 that he
would take take me to that most part of
the earth and he promised me that I
should write an exam and that God would
give me a seat in the All India entrance
for postgraduate studies and that's how
I prepared for the exam and when to give
the exam on January 5th 2001 just before
the exam day on previous night my
friends calls me up those times bring
their mobile phones so he called to my
hotel and said we have the answer key
available for file X we are all put up
in a room and the key is available what
do you want to do are you interested
three or four people can come together
you can share the amount and then still
you can get a free seat at those times
getting a portion it was permanent it
was close to 70 lakhs to 1 crore
so it was a tempting time for me it was
a test of my integrity then I prayed and
committed to the Lord Lord you gave me a
promise and you
to fulfill the promise that you gave to
me and that's how God became my strength
he became my wisdom and he became my
reward to I could get masters in general
surgery through that entrance exam and I
once I finished my Master's general surgery
surgery
the question was everybody was thinking
to go to us that the UK or the settle
back in India what you do then I put one
condition before the Lord Lord I want to
stay back in India if you give me a
super speciality degree you know in one
exam that I will write I will not write
it more than one exam if you give me a
seat in this exam I will consider that
as your bid for me and stay back in the
country and lo I give the exam for all
India for super specialty degree for MCH
in surgical oncology and you know in a
country with a population of that point
of was close to 1.1 billion and he had
ten seats in surgical oncology super
speciality and this humble man from a
village becomes one among them so I
praise God for his provision and all
through my life my education has been
tuition free except for the nominal
government fees everything has been free
because my resource is God himself and
once I finished my super spirituality I
landed in Hyderabad and that was time I
was about to practice to began at common
Hospital and here I saw that or have I
seen a good friend of mine came to me
and said if you already establish in
your practice you need to host many
parties you know you need to kind of
drink for them you need to kind of and
that's how you develop your network and
become close friends but I said I do not
want to compromise on my Christian
values and here I say my biggest
reference my biggest network is with
Jesus himself the Lord was with Joseph
and he was successful man I can testify
today that God was with me and that's
how I could see success in the workplace
even as I continued to practice at
coming in hospitals God gave me a and
you know burden to start a clinical
research company called cleansing you
know in this country clinical research
is viewed suspicion wherein integrity
ethics are
most important and we started
established it was seven years ago with
the co-founders with an agreement that
come what may
we shall not deviate from the norms and
believe me dear friends we lost seventy
percent of the business because we
didn't want to do any studies any
projects which were violating the
regulatory norms even at the cost of it
today I can say no because we took a
stand - you know - not to violate the
norms God has blessed us so much so that
today cleansing is not only in India it
has no an office in Dubai it has an
office base this year the new office in
Vietnam is opening up and in the US will
be opening up a third office this is
because people around the people in this
world are looking for institutions
organizations with integrity they value
it more even if they don't practice they
are looking for people who have these
values that's so even if monetarily we
didn't make great progress but because
of the values because of the integrity
we were chosen to be in their radar so
that they put partner with us
strategically and we could now go on to
expand cleansing across the globe so
this is when in 2012 I came to Apollo so
I will talk a little bit about
excellence my time is running out I'm
sure I will be able to finish before
time I will share a couple of stories
under with that I would like to end so I
went to one of the best cancer
institutes in the world called Memorial
sloan-kettering in Newark and the
Roswell Park Cancer Institute in the
Buffalo this is where I saw one poster
in the hospital in the OT they put this
perfection is our goal excellence will
be tolerated this is what Lord expects
from our life he is perfect I'm not
perfect but he wants me to think of
excellence in everything that I do today
how do we approach excellence in my life
I would look at three ways in which I
look at excellence I want to align with
God's purposes as number one number two
enhancement of skills you need to
enhance your skills and you need to be
guided by the holy spirit for the timely
wisdom and both these are possible
through prayer so let me share a story
about a patient who who was a VIP and
most of times VIPs do have such problems
this was the radical surgery this was a
radical surgery for a custom of the
cervix and we had to do a radical
hysterectomy so one of the assistant
during the retraction they injured a
major vein called iliac vein at the
junction within him second the whole
field was full of blood and within few
seconds everybody came to watch what
would this boy do because that was not
one of the early cases all right I
compressed the vein so that the bleeding
would stop and cool in the whole area
and then I said Lord we need you
desperately that was the load prayer
because that was a junction at a
critical point I didn't have a second
chance even as I prayed and took a
stitch a timely right one stitch you
don't have a chance to no medal around
that area and one stitch the bleeding
company nor a drop of blood and that is
the power of prayer that is the power of
prayer it is not my excellence not my
skill that is the power of prayer and
Deb dear friends I can tell you very
confidently today - the taste reminds me
of prayer last week I was in a hurry to
start a robotic surgery I came late to
the party they're already set to go and
I took the knife and I were to put the
incision - Anastasia she reminds me say
star prayer is not over so that is the
kind she she's she's trained that you
know we have to pray before we start the
case that's when I realized before I
start every surgery I need to pray and
desperately ask for God's wisdom and
guidance so I'll also quickly go through
the another Hank I know another hat that
I wear is God enabled me to start an NGO
called grace Cancer Foundation as a
social enterprise you know based on the
Christian principles showing the love of
Christ in the marketplace so that even
as you run around even as you work
amongst the others you would show the
test of your character in the in their
midst so this has been you know
wonderful journey through grace Cancer
Foundation we could reach you know close
to five million people you know we could
this is one thing which is very close to
my heart because this is how we reach to
the most marginalized section of the
society we go right to the doorstep for
the people who are really poor to go to
their doorstep that is being possible as
the legacy to my mother who was you know
a significant influence a mother in my
life and we started off with a mobile
cancer screening campaign so we start
off with one
bus bus was donated was by State Bank of
India even we did ask them they said we
have funds to as CSR do you want to do
anything with this fund they came with a
a stress and the Lord showed us that we
need to go to the villages through this
mobile cancer screening campaign today
I'm very happy to share with you that
God has blessed this what has started
just an awareness campaign has
catapulted into a pink revolution where
in you know hundreds of the volunteers
have joined this campaign and we are
able to reach the millions of people in
order to bring not only awareness but
also detect the cancer early because
that's when you have the best results
with you so the impact is significant
you know in and through this foundation
God has been working you know wonderful
things and teaching me wonderful lessons
so what is more important is that it is
not about the records are the numbers
but it is about a single life that is
touched by your work so that's what
which gives us at the end of the day you
know God has enabled us not only to work
through this foundation but also to
start a cancer hospital in Islamabad
where in unity we wanted to bridge the
gap in the health care so there was the
very outdated COBOL to the therapy of a
radiation equipment and a world hospital
Islam bath and God increased me that you
know even as I wasn't visiting this
Center for the last ten years every
Friday I operate there for the poorest
of the poor that's where we started this
unit putting the state-of-the-art
radiotherapy equipment and giving the
best-in-class cancer treatment in the
remote place that's how we wanted to
bring the best advanced cancer care
access through the key care within the
reach of a common man so this is how God
has been using me in the marketplace for
his glory I just want to give you one
call at this point of time that you know
to be successful in the marketplace I be
you and I need to desperately depend on
God and we need to have an ambition to
live a life of legacy I'll just take
quickly 30 more seconds to tell one
story in which God amazingly worked in
my life and changed my perspective about
life there is one patient held that
cancer these are figures and this
patient was one of the earliest cases
that I have done in Khamenei a six-hour surgery

surgery went on very well third day or
fourth day patient
develop respiratory complications so she
was put on a ventilator she was never
going to make it that is the time I told
her only Jesus can deliver you that's
what I believe in and she with tubes in
and she she nodded her head and the next
few days she'd iterated and we decided
to discourage the ventilator in the
ambulance and send her home so that the
cost will come down so with so much of
pain I sent back the patient home with
in the Himalayan saying that thinking
that they will body have the same day
after one week I happened to go to a
medical college for teaching in
narketpalli and that's where I find one
lady coming with tubes and bags shouting
from behind hello sir I'm your patient
I'm still alive so they're friends
it's a miracle because she trusts in God
and God healed her I gave up I sent her
back so our purpose is really not ours
it is his over integrity he it is not ours
ours
he helps us our excellence is based on
his provision it's all about him grace
it is not what we live for others which
matters but what matters is what we
leave in them so we need to live a life
of legacy in order to live legacy in
order to leave legacy you need to leave
a legacy
I believe it the best is yet to come for
me you see in the stuff a picture there
I dream I tell to my daughter my legacy
for you he is a fleet of hundred buses
not to one them but to go and drive them
so that you can impact millions of
