0:01 trying to start a print on aand business
0:03 can be overwhelming with all the
0:05 different steps and strategies it can be
0:07 hard to know where to even start so
0:10 today I'm going to share my exact
0:11 strategy for how to start a print on
0:14 demand shop completely from scratch I've
0:17 used this exact strategy to grow my own
0:19 six and seven figure print on demand
0:20 businesses so if I had to start over
0:23 today from absolute zero this is the
0:25 exact strategy that I would use I've
0:27 been sharing strategies that get results
0:29 on my YouTube channel for the last year
0:31 and it's helped you generate over $1.7
0:34 million so if that sounds interesting
0:36 make sure to get subscribed and let's
0:38 get into it PR On Demand is a business
0:39 model that allows you to sell various
0:42 products like t-shirts mugs and posters
0:44 with unique artwork on them but the
0:47 items are only printed and shipped when
0:49 a customer orders that way you don't
0:51 have to buy any inventory up front and
0:53 you can run the entire business from a
0:55 laptop the only time that you have to
0:57 buy a product or spend any money is
0:59 after you've already made a sale this
1:01 also means that if done correctly this
1:03 business can be mostly passive allowing
1:06 you to scale it when you have the time
1:08 and keep earning income while you're
1:10 traveling sleeping or watching more Alec
1:13 videos there are four components that
1:15 you need to get started the product the
1:18 design to go on the product a website to
1:20 sell it on and customers to buy it
1:23 component number one picking a product
1:25 this is the easy part but if you get it
1:28 wrong it can ruin your business so how
1:30 do you pick there's three things that I
1:32 look for in a winning product number one
1:34 make sure that the product I'm selling
1:37 has and will continue to be an evergreen
1:39 product I don't want to put a ton of
1:42 work into or make a bunch of designs for
1:44 a product that's going to become
1:46 irrelevant to find Evergreen products we
1:48 have to look at what's already been
1:49 working at the end of the day nobody
1:52 wants to buy a blank product so we're
1:54 primarily selling the design that goes
1:56 on the product if there's competition it
1:59 means there's demand I've only ever sold
2:01 longtime bestselling products like
2:04 t-shirts mugs and posters because
2:06 they've been proven to work for years my
2:08 first successful product was the
2:10 standard white mug and while it might
2:12 scare a lot of people away because of
2:15 the huge amount of competition I saw it
2:17 as a huge opportunity with a ton of
2:18 demand picking something that's
2:20 Evergreen just means that it'll sell
2:22 today and it'll continue to sell into
2:25 the future number two the product has to
2:27 make a good profit there's no point in
2:29 doing this if you're not going to make
2:31 good money I always aim for around a 30%
2:33 profit margin so when I sell posters
2:35 they'll cost me about 11 bucks to get
2:38 printed and shipped to the customer
2:40 depending on the size so since they'll
2:44 easily sell for around $20 or even up to
2:47 50 in some cases that means that even
2:50 after all of the transaction fees I can
2:53 still easily make a 30% profit margin I
2:55 always analyze successful shops like
2:57 this to see how they're actually doing
2:59 when I look at their monthly stats we
3:01 can can see that they're not doing too
3:03 bad at all and then if they're making a
3:06 30% profit margin or so they're easily
3:08 doing $110,000 a month and this was
3:10 literally just some random shop that I
3:13 just found 30% is just a rule of thumb
3:14 though because if you're able to sell a
3:16 lot more units with a cheaper product
3:19 like a mug you'll be able to take a
3:21 smaller profit margin since you'll
3:23 usually be able to sell more items
3:25 number three the product has to be
3:28 Universal now I sell Evergreen products
3:30 but I use the design that are on the
3:33 products to Target different Trends and
3:36 niches we'll only get good sales if our
3:38 designs are good but our product has to
3:40 be versatile enough to upload all
3:41 different kinds of designs to it if I'm
3:43 going to sell a mug I need to be able to
3:45 sell it to all different kinds of
3:48 professions interests hobbies and Trends
3:50 if it's an evergreen product that can
3:51 make a good profit and allows you to
3:54 upload Universal designs you'll be set
3:57 now you can have a great product but
3:59 without a great design you won't get very
4:01 very
4:04 far the reason that most sellers fail is
4:07 because they don't understand customer
4:09 psychology customers don't care about
4:13 your products but they do care about
4:14 things that they're already passionate
4:16 about this could literally be anything
4:19 their career their Hobbies their pets
4:22 their Hometown and with print on demand
4:24 we can make products for all of those
4:26 interests so to make Banger designs we
4:28 have to start with one of these ideas
4:30 which could be literally anything thing
4:32 so how do we know where to start who do
4:35 we make designs for first this can be
4:36 the most difficult part of the business
4:38 and if you don't do it correctly you're
4:41 almost certain to fail I'm speaking from
4:43 experience because my first products
4:45 were terrible we want to start by doing
4:47 some research to see what customers are
4:49 buying and to do research my favorite
4:52 platform is to use Etsy because all of
4:55 the sales data is public now from a
4:57 glance we can quickly see what shops are
4:59 doing well based on their total review
5:02 views and then when viewing a listing we
5:04 can see if that particular item has
5:06 gotten any reviews on its own you could
5:08 also use different marketplaces like
5:10 Amazon but not all of the data is public
5:12 which is why I like Etsy on Etsy when
5:14 I'm doing research I just need to search
5:16 for the product category that I'm
5:19 selling in so perhaps I'm selling a
5:22 candle Now by looking at these results I
5:24 can quickly spot the top performing
5:26 shops that have gotten thousands of
5:28 reviews usually shops will get about one
5:31 review for every 8 to 10 sales that they
5:34 get so looking at the reviews is a great
5:36 metric to track success I'll click
5:37 through one of these shops that has a
5:39 high review count and make sure that
5:41 they're selling the product that I want
5:43 to sell their shops should kind of be
5:46 themed around it then I can come down to
5:48 the bottom of the page to this reviews
5:50 section and this will show me what
5:52 people are actually buying and then
5:55 liking enough to leave a review on a few
5:57 of the ideas here are teacher candles
6:00 divorce candles and even retirement
6:02 candles so if you wanted to sell candles
6:04 but you were worried about the huge
6:07 amount of competition if we target a
6:10 specific idea like divorce candles the
6:13 competition is significantly reduced by
6:15 doing this process enough you should
6:18 come up with a huge list of design ideas
6:21 and with that list there's four methods
6:23 that we can use to turn those ideas into
6:25 actual designs the important thing to
6:28 keep in mind is we're not here to
6:31 reinvent the wheel simple things work
6:33 best just take what's working and add a
6:36 little bit of zest method number one is
6:38 the traditional good old-fashioned
6:40 handcrafted design from this candle
6:43 example most of the top candle shops
6:46 sell basic text designs just with
6:48 creative fonts now if you don't know
6:51 what saying to put we could come over to
6:54 chat GPT and write a prompt like this to
6:56 generate a list of sayings that we can
6:59 put on our candles so maybe we'd use
7:02 this one scent of Freedom retirement
7:03 Edition then we just have to put it
7:05 together so it looks nice and this is
7:07 pretty easy to do as well see we could
7:09 look at other popular designs to get
7:11 inspiration we could use the arched
7:14 two-line style from this bestseller with
7:17 this modern Sleek looking font from this
7:19 bestseller then if I just took this and
7:22 put those two elements together we don't
7:24 get a design that looks half bad we
7:26 could use this strategy to make several
7:28 different variations of the same saying
7:30 to increase our chances of getting sales
7:32 with that saying these are super easy to
7:34 make in just a few minutes using a free
7:36 program like figma and I've got a full
7:38 design tutorial so if you need more
7:40 detail you can check that out but the
7:42 text designs are so simple because we're
7:44 literally just typing them out and don't
7:47 underestimate simple designs even the
7:50 simplest single font designs can become
7:53 bests sellers this design right here has
7:55 over 100 reviews which means it's likely
7:58 sold around a thousand times my
8:00 best-selling handcraft raed designs are
8:02 always stupidly simple even though
8:04 handcrafting designs actually isn't too
8:06 difficult a lot of people still find
8:08 this the hardest method so if you're
8:09 looking for something a little bit
8:11 easier to do you could try method number
8:15 two buying pre-made designs this seller
8:18 has made thousands of dollars from this
8:20 item and they don't have any complex
8:22 design skills because they just bought
8:26 this exact design pre-made for
8:30 $5 you can use this exact strategy
8:32 whenever I find a winning product like
8:34 this Halloween shirt for example I can
8:37 just rightclick on the image since I'm
8:38 in Google Chrome the Google Chrome
8:41 browser and I can hit search with Google
8:44 Lens this will search for the exact
8:47 design across all other areas of the web
8:49 where I might be able to find the
8:51 original source file which I could then
8:53 buy for a few bucks and then use it in
8:55 my own shop if it's already being sold
8:58 on a t-shirt I could also sell it on a
9:00 t-shirt just using a different mockup or
9:02 I could sell it on a different product
9:04 entirely Reinventing the wheel and
9:06 trying to get too creative will leave
9:08 you without any sales you have to take
9:10 what's working and just make it a little
9:13 bit different even with dozens of other
9:16 shops selling this exact same design it
9:19 can still work for new shops and there
9:21 are entire shops dedicated to selling
9:23 pre-made designs just like this now for
9:25 those of you who don't have the money to
9:26 spend on buying a ton of pre-made
9:28 designs you could try method number three
9:29 three
9:32 AI generated designs I personally use
9:34 mid Journey but now there's a lot of
9:35 different AI generators that you could
9:37 use and this is by far the easiest
9:40 method for generating art all I have to
9:42 do is learn how to craft a great prompt
9:43 and the image generator will take care
9:45 of the rest using the same product
9:48 research method as before I found this
9:50 pumpkin shirt that's probably sold at
9:52 least a few thousand times considering
9:54 it has hundreds of reviews Now using
9:56 that mid Journey AI I talked about I
9:59 simply wrote out a prompt describing the
10:01 type of graphic that I wanted and it
10:04 generates me several variations from
10:06 here inside mid journey I can just
10:09 upscale the image and all that's left is
10:11 to remove the background using a free
10:13 background remover and I'll be able to
10:16 sell products using this graphic but now
10:19 with the power of AI we're also able to
10:21 create designs that can cover entire
10:23 products maybe you're considering
10:25 running a mug shop and in your product
10:28 research you found this floral mug
10:29 that's selling pretty
10:32 well inside mid journey I could ask for
10:35 the same style of image and indicate the
10:37 aspect ratio that I'd like it to be in
10:40 so it'll cover the entire mug this will
10:41 spit out a version of the image that can
10:43 be perfectly sized to fit specific
10:46 products like this white mug now all
10:47 three of these methods for making
10:51 designs work but by far the best method
10:54 to ensure success is to create hybrid
10:56 designs going with this method allows
10:59 you to take advantage of handmade AI and
11:02 pre-made designs all in one shop giving
11:04 you the best chance of success with pron
11:05 demand we want to make the most amount
11:08 of designs possible to widen our chances
11:10 of actually getting sales so by using
11:13 all three methods in a hybrid strategy
11:15 we'll have the best chances for Success
11:17 this will allow us to build out a big
11:19 catalog of products that can sell for
11:21 years even the products that I made way
11:25 back in 2020 which was 4 years ago now
11:26 still continue to sell and make me
11:28 passive income to this day by using
11:30 these four strategies you should
11:32 hopefully see that making artwork isn't
11:34 too difficult after all and you'll be
11:37 left with a ton of designs however even
11:39 with the best product and the best
11:42 designs if your print provider sucks
11:44 you're almost guaranteed to fail the
11:46 print provider you choose will dictate
11:47 how quickly your customers get their
11:49 products the level of customer service
11:52 you get as the seller for orders with
11:54 defects and shipments lost in the mail
11:56 and ultimately how much profit you get
11:59 to keep from all of your sales print of
12:02 gelato and printful are the kind of top
12:04 three print OnDemand providers and I've
12:06 used all three of them for my own print
12:08 on demand businesses over the past years
12:11 now they all do have their own pros and
12:13 cons But ultimately to this day I've
12:16 stuck with printify I could go over
12:18 several reasons why they're my favorite
12:20 but just on cost alone you can see that
12:22 printify always outperforms their
12:24 competitors that means that with every
12:26 order I get I'm keeping more of that
12:29 sale as profit I've used PR for years
12:31 now and they've genuinely been the best
12:33 to work with they've enabled me to keep
12:35 hundreds of thousands of dollars in
12:37 extra profit since I'm selling tens of
12:39 thousands of products but we're still
12:42 left with another issue which is getting
12:44 all of those designs that we've made
12:46 onto the product that we're selling in
12:48 printify if you have 20 mug designs that
12:50 you created in bulk it could take you
12:52 quite some time to get them onto the
12:55 mugs that's why I invested over $20,000
12:57 to build the printify product uploader
12:59 program this program allows you to
13:01 upload as many designs as you want at a
13:05 time and bulk upload them to whatever
13:07 product you're selling on autopilot so
13:09 there's no user input required you could
13:11 start your uploads go make a cup of
13:13 coffee and when you come back all of
13:15 those designs will be uploaded to the
13:17 product you selected pream and ready to
13:21 go this is a massive timesaver so when
13:23 you're done watching this video I'll
13:24 have a link where you can get my
13:26 automated printify product uploader
13:29 program completely for free now with all
13:31 of our products ready to go on printify
13:33 we need a place to sell them online and
13:36 there's several options
13:38 here as a beginner you've probably heard
13:40 about a lot of different options that
13:43 you could go with but hands down the
13:45 most beginner friendly and easiest way
13:46 to get started is to open a completely
13:49 free shop on Etsy we want to sell where
13:51 the customers already are Etsy has over
13:55 95 million active buyers and they drive
13:57 more than enough organic traffic to
13:59 their website than you'd need to grow a
14:01 six or seven figure business Etsy is the
14:03 best place as a beginner when you're
14:05 just first getting things figured out
14:06 and once you're in a comfortable
14:09 position and have some cash coming in we
14:11 can talk about scaling to Shopify Etsy
14:13 drives so much organic traffic to my
14:15 businesses that I wouldn't even have to
14:18 use Shopify if I didn't want to plus
14:20 printify is an Etsy approved integration
14:22 which means that we can connect it to
14:25 our shop and publish all of our products
14:27 ready to sell setting up an Etsy Shop is
14:29 super easy to do and I've created a
14:31 quick start guide which will walk you
14:32 through everything that you need to get
14:35 your shop open and started from coming
14:37 up with the business name to creating a
14:39 branded email getting your shop open and
14:41 ready to sell this guide will walk you
14:43 through it by following this guide and
14:45 using the links in it it'll get your
14:48 shop set up completely for free in under
14:50 10 minutes again at the end of the video
14:51 I'll give you all of these resources
14:53 including this free guide now you might
14:55 be wondering why we aren't using
14:58 Redbubble Teespring or Society 6 or any
15:00 of these other free to use print on
15:03 demand marketplaces and the short answer
15:05 is because they don't work that well
15:07 I've posted over 2,000 products for sale
15:10 and over the past few years I've made a
15:12 grand total of
15:15 $232 so not a very worthwhile process if
15:17 you ask me the issue is that these
15:19 websites just don't drive enough traffic
15:21 to be profitable and if you do end up
15:23 making sales you'll lose most of your
15:25 money to the fees now once your Etsy
15:27 Shop is open there's a few things that
15:30 we can do to the design of the shop to
15:31 help it feel more trustworthy and
15:33 generate sales what exactly should a
15:36 trustworthy shop look like well here's a
15:39 good example of one first just notice
15:41 the logo that I've got in the corner
15:44 it's a super clean logo that really
15:46 isn't anything too special again this
15:49 could be made using AI or just using one
15:51 of the templates that you get from canva
15:54 I made this particular logo using canva
15:57 next look at the banner on the top of
16:00 the shop this just displays basic
16:02 information about the shop it makes it
16:04 look really clean and more than anything
16:07 it just conveys the vibe of the brand
16:10 right it's premium modern custom and
16:13 that's what the banner is for to convey
16:16 the idea of quality and trust this is a
16:17 great example of what a lot of beginner
16:20 Shops look like it's all over the place
16:22 they're selling products that don't make
16:24 any sense and nothing about this shop
16:27 really conveys trust the mockups look
16:29 bad and lazy and the designs look really
16:32 sloppy this shop is the same story or
16:34 they've got a little bit better idea
16:36 because they're only selling mugs but
16:38 they're infringing on copyright and none
16:41 of their mock-ups look good again and
16:43 nothing about this shop feels real or
16:46 communicates trust both of these shops
16:48 kind of feel like those junky gift shops
16:50 that you find around a tourist trap we
16:52 want to go for something that feels more
16:53 Boutique where it feels like we
16:56 specialize in our items compare this mug
16:59 shop with one like this this and
17:02 hopefully you can see the difference
17:04 everything you do from the logo to the
17:06 banner to the mockup images it all needs
17:09 to build up this image of a premium
17:11 brand when you do this and you really
17:13 focus on making your shop look
17:16 professional and premium it really helps
17:19 with component number four getting
17:22 customers getting random people online
17:24 to see pick and buy our products out of
17:27 everyone's seems like a hard task and it
17:29 sort of is if don't know what you're
17:31 doing we have to get into the potential
17:33 customers head and have them imagine
17:34 that they've already bought the product
17:36 we're selling out of everything that
17:39 we've covered by far the most underrated
17:42 aspect of the business is the mockups
17:44 these are the images that display the
17:47 fictional item as if it were real since
17:49 we're not ordering every product that we
17:52 make to take a photo of it the mockups
17:54 basically have to sell the product for
17:57 us the mockup images are the marketing
17:59 for our pron demand and products
18:01 whenever you go through and look at the
18:04 top shops in any category selling any
18:06 product they've all figured out what
18:09 mockups to use to get the most amount of
18:11 sales these mockups or similar ones to
18:15 the best sellers are how we build trust
18:17 and the first step to actually
18:19 converting these random Shoppers online
18:21 into paying customers now it's really
18:24 common for these bestselling mockups to
18:26 be available for purchase right on Etsy
18:29 or similar website for just a few
18:31 dollars or if your product permits it
18:33 you can try generating similar looking
18:35 mockups using AI to actually get your
18:38 designs onto your product mockups you
18:40 can either do it manually by hand which
18:43 admittedly can take quite a while or you
18:46 can use free bonus number three the
18:48 Photoshop mockup script this allows you
18:50 to generate hundreds of mockups on
18:52 autopilot without any user input with
18:54 this program not only can you use your
18:56 bestselling mock-ups but it's also way
18:58 faster to use than anything else like
19:00 place it which those mockups don't work
19:02 anyway once again this will be available
19:04 at the end of the video free of charge
19:07 now here's where everything finally all
19:09 starts to come together we've picked and
19:11 made designs for our product we've
19:12 gotten them uploaded and ready to sell
19:15 in our Etsy shop we have mockups chosen
19:17 and made and now we have one more
19:20 important task which is getting our
19:22 products to show up when someone
19:24 searches for them all we have to do is
19:27 put good SEO keywords or search engine optimization
19:29 optimization
19:30 in our listings this will help get them
19:32 to rank in the Etsy search engine we'll
19:34 simply search for the type of product
19:37 that we're selling with the design idea
19:39 that we want to rank for so maybe this
19:41 floral mug then we just look at the top
19:44 listings here because they have the best
19:46 SEO keywords we can simply open up one
19:48 of these listings and then look at the
19:50 keywords that they've put in their title
19:52 section and all the way down at the
19:54 bottom of the page in this tag section
19:57 it's these little bubbles are each a tag
19:58 we can reuse these keywords from Top
20:01 listings in our own listings these
20:03 keywords are already proven to work
20:04 which means using them will give us the
20:06 best chances of ranking on the first
20:09 page of search results organically now
20:11 we could decide to pay for Etsy ads but
20:13 the ads will only perform as good as the
20:16 product is and they'll still only show
20:18 the ads depending on the SEO that you
20:20 put in the product just relying on
20:22 organic unpaid traffic you can get
20:25 almost the same exact results as if you
20:27 were paying for Etsy ads the only
20:28 downside is that you have to wait a
20:30 little bit longer for all of your
20:32 products to rank organically in search
20:35 you might have noticed that I ran zero
20:38 Etsy ads well basically zero I only use
20:40 the free traffic on Etsy I'll pay for my
20:42 own traffic on a Shopify website but I
20:44 don't need to do that on Etsy as
20:46 promised you can find a link down below
