If you're looking for the absolute best
TV shows to watch right now, you're in
the right place. As we do around this
time each year, in this top 10, I'll
count down our favorite TV shows with
new episodes released since last year's
video. And of course, I will count these
down in order with entertainment value
being the most important factor. Let's
get started.
Starting off our countdown, coming in at
number 10 is Murderbot. This science
fiction action comedy drama on Apple TV
Plus is based on the book series The
Murderbot Diaries by Martha Wells. It
stars Alexander Scarsgard as the title
character who is a construct
manufactured from mechanical parts and
cloned human tissue. As a rogue security
bot who secretly gains free will, it
balances dangerous missions and the
desire to be isolated. The sci-fi action
along with the sharp dry wit make each
episode a fun ride. Murderbot has been
renewed by Apple TV Plus for a second season.
season.
Coming in at number nine is Tulsa King.
Available on the Paramount Plus
streaming service. This is a comedy
crime drama created by Taylor Sheridan,
the creator of Yellowstone. It stars
Sylvester Stallone as a member of the
mafia recently released from a prison in
New York who relocates to Tulsa,
Oklahoma to set up a criminal
organization. The dialogue is brilliant
with Stallone and the cast putting in
strong performances make it a great
show. Two seasons of Tulsa King are
available to watch right now and has
been renewed for a third season.
In at number eight is the comedy drama
Shrinking on Apple TV Plus. It stars
Jason Seagull as Jimmy Lar, a therapist
grieving the loss of his wife who
decides to breach ethical barriers to
become more involved in the lives of his
patients. Co-starring is Harrison Ford,
who plays a grumpy senior therapist and
colleague of Jimmy's. While the subject
matter of shrinking is dark, it does
have some moments that are actually
quite funny. Also, the chemistry between
Seagull and Ford is fantastic. Shrinking
has two seasons on Apple TV Plus and has
been renewed for a third.
Our number seven pick, Dope Thief, is
one that didn't get a lot of attention
when it was first released. This 8
episode crime drama miniseries on Apple
TV Plus stars Brian Tyrie Henry and
Vagner Moya, who some of you might
recognize as Pablo Escobar in the hit
series Narcos. In short, not to spoil
the plot, is about two lifelong friends
in Philadelphia who pose as DEA agents
to rob drug dealers. Dope Thief is a
gritty, suspenseful show with fantastic
acting that gets better with each
passing episode.
Coming in at number six is the spy
thriller Slow Horses. Also available on
Apple TV Plus, the series follows a
group of dysfunctional MI5 agents sent
to a low-level department under the
direction of their miserable boss,
Jackson Lamb, played by Gary Oldman.
With sharp writing and superb acting,
especially from Oldman, it's quite
entertaining to watch as this group
investigates schemes endangering
Britain. Four seasons of Slow Horses are
available on Apple TV Plus to watch
right now and its fifth season is
expected to premiere later this year on
September 24th.
Our number five pick, The Penguin is the
first series in a long time in the DC
Comics universe that is actually great.
Premiering on HBO and streaming on HBO
Max, this 8 episode limited series is a
spin-off of the film The Batman. It
explores the Penguin's rise to power in
Gotham City's criminal underworld with
Colin Frell putting on a fantastic
performance in the lead role. The
Penguin is a well-written series with
excellent performances that should not
be overlooked.
Next up, coming in at number four is
Severance. This science fiction
psychological thriller is one of the
most original series on any streaming
service in years. It stars Adam Scott as
Mark, a worker for the biotechnology
company Lumen Industries. Mark leads a
team of office workers who take part in
the Severance medical procedure program,
which separates non-work memories from
work memories. Without giving away any
spoilers, Severance gets better with
each new episode leading up to its
near-perfect season finale in the first
season. And while the second season does
not live up to the high bar of its
first, it's still one of the best.
Severance has been renewed by Apple TV
Plus for a third season.
Before we get to our top three, here are
some honorable mentions just missing out
on our top 10 that might be worth your
time to check out. On Paramount Plus,
the British crime drama starring Tom
Hardy, Helen Mirren, and Pierce Brosman,
Mob Land. On Netflix, the sports comedy
starring Kate Hudson, Running Point.
Also on Netflix, the western drama
starring Taylor Kit, American Primeval.
On Apple TV Plus, the dark comedy crime
drama from the creator of Banshee and
Warrior starring John Ham is Your
Friends and Neighbors.
On HBO Max, the crime thriller starring
Josh Holloway, Duster.
On FX on Hulu, the psychological comedy
drama starring Jeremy Allen White, The Bear.
Bear.
premiering on AMC and streaming on AMC
Plus, the psychological thriller
starring Zan McLaren, Dark Winds.
And it's worth mentioning on Netflix,
the anthology sci-fi speculative fiction
series Black Mirror, which came back
earlier this year with its seventh
season, has standalone episodes that are
worth watching.
Back to the countdown. Cobber Kai takes
the number three spot. This martial arts
comedy drama on Netflix is a sequel to
the original Karate Kid films. It stars
Ralph Machio and William Zapka reprising
their roles as Daniel Laruso and Johnny
Lawrence. The series begins with Johnny
who is down on his luck reopening the
infamous Cobra Kai dojo reigniting his
rivalry with Daniel who is now a
successful businessman. While cheesy at
times, this nostalgic series is well
written, highly entertaining, and unlike
most shows, had a very satisfying
conclusion. All six of Cobbert High's
seasons, with the sixth being the last,
are on Netflix right now.
In the runner-up spot, coming in at
number two is the surprise hit, The Pit.
Available on HBO Max, this medical drama
stars Noah Wy with a great supporting
cast. It follows emergency department
staff at a fictional hospital in
Pittsburgh as they attempt to overcome
the hardships of having to work 15-hour
shifts. Each episode covers
approximately 1 hour of the work shift.
The Pit is the best medical series in
decades. It's a refreshing and unique
take on the genre. The writing is superb
and the performances are amazing. The
Pit has been renewed for a second season.
season.
In the top spot, coming in at number
one, which will be a shock to many of
you, is Andor. This action adventure
sci-fi thriller on Disney Plus is a
prequel to the Star Wars spin-off film
Rogue One. It stars Diego Luna as a
thief turned rebel spy, Cassian Andor.
It takes place during the time that a
rebel alliance is forming in opposition
to the Galactic Empire. When compared to
the other less than stellar Star Wars
shows, it's darker in tone, more gritty
in nature with fantastic performances
and amazing cinematography.
Some publications have referred to it as
being the greatest Star Wars production
ever created, and that includes all of
the movies in the franchise. Andor was
scheduled to only have two seasons, both
of which are available to watch right
now on Disney Plus.
