0:04 I'll be America's the Top Model Tyra [Applause]
0:05 [Applause]
0:10 why the audition process was
0:14 insane they filed like between 100 and
0:16 200 girls into this ballroom and they
0:18 cram us in a single file line and the
0:20 thing that they kept repeating and they
0:21 kept saying with nose to the back of the
0:23 head nose to the back of the head your
0:25 nose should be touching the head of the
0:26 girl in front of you and so we all had
0:30 to like as a centipede step forward like
0:32 out of her shoes and I remember looking
0:33 down and being like I am the only one
0:35 that has tits that make that impossible
0:37 what do I do so if you please with all
0:40 the blindf that we have given you the 30
0:42 who make it to the next stage welcome to
0:44 America's Next Top Model then get a
0:47 chance to woo the judges and of course
0:50 Tyra herself you guys have made my Fierce
0:52 Fierce
0:56 page I looked up to Tyra so much I was
0:59 so happy that this woman that you know I
1:03 admire since a child she knows who I am
1:07 she picked me to come on her show well
1:11 hello ladies hi s to see her in front of
1:12 me was probably one of the cooler
1:14 moments in my
1:18 life I don't remember meeting her it was
1:21 totally a fug State okay what happened
1:24 go ahead tell us I my no I had baled up
1:26 a freaking straw wrapper and shoved it
1:29 up my nose you accordion it and then you
1:31 pull it out out oh I'm
1:34 that's I remember getting off the stage
1:37 and being like what did I say what did I
1:42 just do only have make the next cut
1:52 Lisa The Chosen Few move into the model
1:55 house it'll be home for the next 8 weeks
2:02 everyone starts
2:07 running oh my God I just remember being
2:09 like I've never seen a house like this
2:11 anywhere we were so excited it was like
2:14 the Ultimate Prize oh my God Penthouse
2:17 sweets and Paris and Milan just get my
2:21 hair and makeup done oh the life uh Ty
2:25 ma don't and moan about this hairy
2:28 situation there's no turning back now as
2:30 Tyra calls in to tell them what comes
2:33 next good morning ladies it's time to
2:36 capture the new you for the world to see
2:40 makeovers also known as tie overs Top
2:43 Model is Iconic for makeovers well I
2:45 line the girls up line all the pictures
2:47 up and I go one by one and try to decide
2:49 what would be the best Makeover where to
2:51 make them edgy take them you know over
2:53 the edge she would look at a girl who
2:55 was kind of ordinary and go okay well
2:57 how about if we cut her hair like this
2:58 how about if we give her blonde hair how
3:00 about if we do this how about bet if we
3:03 do that Ser they gave me a short dirty
3:06 blonde short bob and I just loved it you
3:10 got what every girl wants yo yo I feel
3:14 like Tyra I had me a long gorgeous
3:17 blonde weave so were you ready yeah
3:19 we're cutting it all off they cut all my
3:20 hair off and I definitely think they
3:22 thought I was going to cry because I had
3:25 like homeschool long hair I loved it and
3:27 I was super excited and then they asked
3:29 if I felt like a man you know was I
3:30 afraid that being a plus-sized model
3:31 with short hair would make me look
3:34 fatter and I hadn't never thought that
3:36 maybe I would look fatter with short
3:38 hair I do now you going have to cut it
3:41 off real short like Hal Berry girl yeah
3:45 I love my hair I don't feel like myself
3:48 I was like a boy cut her hair no wait
3:50 wait wait wait if the girls did get a
3:52 haircut that they weren't happy with
3:53 they had to learn how to work with their
3:55 angles because they might get booked on
3:56 a job where a client says you know what
3:58 honey I'm going to pay you 100 Grand but
4:00 I'm going to C for your hair you ready
4:05 no a come on there wasn't anyone taking
4:06 the time to explain like what's
4:08 happening and it was really
4:10 uncomfortable I've never had like a net
4:13 sewn to my head before you stabbed me in
4:15 the head with needles all day it's okay
4:18 you ready we know what would look good
4:20 on your face so there shouldn't be any
4:21 tears most of the girls would get so
4:23 emotional and tearing like oh my God I
4:25 don't want to cut off my hair oh my God
4:26 don't do this so you're not ready to cut
4:28 your hair no you know I really don't
4:30 have time for this today you just got to
4:33 leave my set they would be reprimanded
4:36 if they whine too much about their look
4:38 they had to learn the word acceptance
4:41 very quickly but for one model it's not that
4:42 that
4:45 simple in Gina Turner's case Hello it
4:47 strikes a traumatic cord what makes you
4:49 interesting special different um I have
4:51 a disease called alipa universalis so
4:53 it's autoimmune it attacks my hair
4:56 follicles my hairs out it's hard to talk
4:58 about I started losing my hair around 8
5:00 years old I had no idea it was alipa at
5:03 the time to be a girl and not have hair
5:04 and you see how people start treating
5:06 you differently and what people say is
5:09 really intense you ready they're going
5:11 to start the process I'll hold your hand
5:12 if you want me
5:15 to producers pressure Gina to confront
5:18 her alopecia on camera by shaving off
5:20 what little hair she has to create her signature
5:25 look I was crying so hard they had to
5:27 turn the cameras off I just kept
5:29 freaking out and I just wasn't ready for it
5:29 it [Music]
5:31 [Music]
5:33 I wouldn't even run down my driveway to
5:34 the mailbox to pick up the mail if I
5:36 didn't have my hair on like I really
5:38 wasn't ready for it to be shaven like
5:39 that on
5:41 TV and then to be told like walk around
5:43 like that and you have to believe it's
5:45 beautiful what if I didn't I'd obviously
5:47 didn't think it was beautiful I was
5:48 covering it up with
5:50 wigs with Gina before she signed up to
5:52 be America's Next Top Model she knew
5:54 that this was her angle that this would
5:56 be the way that she would stand out
5:58 there's no way in the world that she
6:00 would have gone on to the show not
6:01 knowing that that was going to be a
6:03 strong point for her some of the girls
6:06 were poked at the traumas and that's
6:08 television finding that insecure thing
6:11 that the model has and enhancing it
6:13 making the model just stand there I
6:16 guess like a marine until he's finally
6:19 broken from day one the Caster
6:22 interviewed relentlessly and nothing is off
6:23 off
6:25 limits the producers of the show would
6:27 ask me about my body all the time and
6:28 they would ask me how I felt about it
6:30 and how I felt about the fact that it
6:32 was different than the other girls am I
6:34 too small am I like too big I don't know
6:35 I just kind of feel like I'm just wrong
6:38 sometimes and so it was like how do
6:42 I like steal myself to let this be the
6:46 thing that we talk about in every
6:49 interview they used all of your trauma
6:53 during interviews to get a reaction out
6:55 of your an emotional reaction and then
6:59 they switch the topic anytime you see me
7:01 crying on the phone it's cuz they asked
7:04 me do you feel the same way like you did
7:05 when your mom told you to kill
7:07 yourself and then be like let's change
7:10 the subject as you're crying tell me how
7:12 are you going to walk into this photo
7:14 shoot with confidence right and you're
7:18 like yeah I'm going to walk in with
7:20 confidence I think I was in an interview
7:22 room for like almost 7 hours like by
7:25 myself with three people just like
7:27 this but I had the interviewer telling
7:29 me I was begging her to stop asking me
7:31 questions about being suicidal they
7:33 ended up using the response of me crying
7:34 saying I don't want to talk about it
7:36 anymore as my response for losing the
7:38 competition I don't want to talk about
7:42 it anymore and that's not at all what
7:45 happened everybody behind the scenes
7:47 involved with this show structurally
7:51 built opportunities to poke and poke and
7:54 poke at people's worst moments in their
7:56 lives just to make them cry or just to
7:59 make them yell or scream or be angry or see
8:00 see
8:04 confused it's deeply irresponsible and also
8:05 also
8:08 sadistic there's never a moment away
8:11 from the cameras not even at the model
8:13 house there really wasn't anywhere that
8:17 was Private there was mics everywhere
8:18 whether they were on top of cupboards
8:20 tucked behind toilet seats behind your
8:22 pillowcase like you name it there was a
8:26 mic somewhere dude I called
8:30 shower the shower had like a wall that
8:32 came up to like just below our [Music]
8:34 [Music]
8:36 nipples like or just maybe just above
8:38 but like not if we reached over our head
8:40 you know what I mean and they were like
8:42 we won't film you if you are alone in
8:44 the shower or in the bathroom but if
8:47 anyone else is in there we will film you
8:48 also you guys should totally shower
8:51 together it's like a sorority house for
8:54 models right down to their bad diet this
8:57 Ren tastes likey they didn't give you
9:00 enough pum to feed yourself
9:01 a lot of the girls were just living off
9:04 of cereal or Top Ramen also you know
9:05 these girls who don't know how to cook
9:07 are in a kitchen so it's was a lot of
9:10 Hot Pockets it was a lot of fish sticks
9:13 a lot of like oven fries we weren't
9:18 well and when you're hungry you get
9:21 angry and then you lash out so how does
9:23 it feel being in the bottom Raina and
9:25 Brenda it don't feel good do it they
9:27 wanted us to fight because they wanted
9:31 to see what you're like at your work wor
9:34 bring yeah we were irritable we were
9:37 Snappy that was a concerted effort to
9:38 keep us off
9:40 kilter it got to the point where I was
9:42 like I'll just have a glass of wine but
9:43 guess what now this glass of wine is now
9:45 two glasses of wine and I forgot that I
9:47 didn't have breakfast and wait did I
9:50 even have lunch and no and now I'm like
9:52 kind of
9:56 drunk shut up the result is exactly what
9:58 producers want oh y'all fake as hell
10:01 don't say that this is a hell hole oh my
10:04 God tell them it's an emergency started
10:06 to realize that this show was not a real
10:09 modeling competition you're a stupid
10:12 you are know
