Hello guys Welcome to our new video
some of the questions I am often asked
are when should
car components be replaced as part of preventive
maintenance so in this video
we will talk about the schedules
when should
engine components be replaced in part one of
this video we will talk about engine components first then
then
we will follow the other parts to
talk about the other parts of
our car that need to be
replaced because there are too many and can't
fit in one video but
just a disclaimer guys what
I will say in this video is
General Knowledge that applies to the
majority of cars but if
you still have a maintenance booklet for your
car because your car is still
brand new or close to being brand new then that is
still what you should follow so
you can make sure that the maintenance you are going to do is really specific
to your car
So that's all Guys what are
[Music]
Roll so let's talk number one about
engine oil and the oil filter So
we know that engine oil is one of the most important fluids
in our car
so we should be religious about it
changing it and its oil filter
we really follow the regular
interval in doing this and of course at the
same time as changing the oil guys
we also change our oil
filters So when is the
engine oil changed It depends on the type of
engine oil you put in so
we have a video related to that 'ba So
We learned that there are three types of
engine oil So the first one is mineral oil
it is changed every 3 months Or every
5 1000 km whichever comes first
second what they call semi
synthetic it is changed every 6
months or 7,500 km whichever comes first
Then the last one The most expensive
type The fully synthetic type of
oil it is changed every 12 months or
1 year or 10,000 km whichever comes
first next is the engine coolant usually
the coolants that are sold today in the
market are the same type that's
applicable to the majority
of vehicles that are traveling today it
just varies in color which is There is
no difference in that so advice
I advise you to flush your coolant every
5 years or 80,000
km whichever comes first, no, and
if there is still water in
your radiator now, oh, change it with
coolant, number three is the power
steering fluid, if
your vehicle has hydraulic power steering,
you need to change it from time to time, no,
to prevent early or premature
wear and tear of our hydraulic power
steering components, you can
use power steering fluid
or something else that is a little cheaper.
They call it ATF. The
automatic transmission fluid has the same
rating. It
can be used in our hydraulic power
steering systems. So ideally, you should
flush the power steering fluid around
30,000 to 50,000 km. Or every 2 to 3
years. Next, there are spark plugs if
your vehicle has a gasoline engine. This is very important
in diesel because there are no spark plugs.
No, in gasoline engines, this is a very vital
part for the improvement or for the
good combustion of our
engine. So if you want to know
all about spark plugs, we also have a
video about that. What can you do?
search our channel or our
tiktok account So when are
spark plugs replaced It depends on the type of
spark plug installed in your car
so this is the schedule if what you are using
is a copper spark plug which is the
cheapest type of
spark plug ideally it should be replaced
every 1 year or 10,000 km whichever
comes first so the next type of spark
plug is the Platinum spark plug which
is much better compared to copper so
it also has a longer lifespan so
it is replaced every 20,000 km Or every
2 years whichever comes first and the
last one is what we call the iridium spark
plug this is the best type
and the most expensive type of spark
plug so because of that
its lifespan lasts longer it is replaced around
every 5 50,000 km or 5 years whichever comes
comes
first next is the fuel filter So we know
that fuel is also one of the most vital
parts of our car so it should always be clean so
fuel filters play a big role in
our car so ideally
it should be replaced every 10,000 to 15,000
km or 1 and 1/2 to 2 years depends
on how often you use
your car next is the air
filters another crucial or another vital
part of our combustion is the air so the
air that enters
the combustion chamber of our
car must be clean so we have also discussed this
previously in our videos
how important the air filter is so the
basic rule of thumb there guys is every
oil change or every preventive
crying usually I notice in
diesel cars that
their big air filter is pulled out and can be
blown out no so those are the
situations that you can blow it out
just every oil change you do but when it
lasts it also loses its
effectiveness so you can replace it
every 15,000 km But if
your air filter is like the common air
filter paper type no that looks like a
square no that's the kind of
air filter you use which is common
in cars especially in sedans
ideally it is replaced every 10,000 km Do
n't let it get dirty. Don't let it get dirty. Don't let it get dirty. There
will come a time when
the dirt will really clog it up. You can't get it out
of the Buga. So the rule of thumb is that when it's dirty,
ideally it's cheap. So
we can replace it
as often as
we want. Next is the drive belts or what
mechanics call fan
belts. These are the belts outside
our engine that rotate the
alternator, the air conditioner compressor, the power
steering pump, and then the water pump. So what
drive belts do is really crucial. Of course, the majority of them are made of rubber.
So as time goes by, they'll really
learn. So don't let it get to the
point where it breaks. So the rule
of thumb is to always check them every oil
change. If there are cracks or
squeaking, no, that's not the time to replace them.
But if there aren't any, ideally, it's important to
replace them to be on the safe side.
Around 20,000 km or every almost 2 years.
That's the schedule I follow. Next
is what we call the timing belt.
Not all engines have a timing
belt, others have a timing chain. Which
is more sturdy so this timing belt guys this is
a bit tricky because this is an important part
of our engine because this is what sets the
timing between cam shaft and then Crank
shaft of our engine so
it's inside the valve cover you don't
just see it so you
really need to take good care of it no and that's very
crucial guys because when your
timing belt breaks and if your engine
is an interference type it means there are
damaged bulbs that are holding it up
it can break when your
timing belt breaks there are engines that are non
interference like this Blake But
that's rare often interference so you
really need to have
miss broken no so it's
really a big problem when your
timing belt breaks so my advice there guys
is every 80,000 km you should replace
it Or every 4 to 5 years whichever
comes first no so you can be sure and if
the car you bought guys
you just bought second hand if
it has been driven more than 80,000 km
ideally check the timing
belt immediately if it still has a timing belt
just for this Be safe and so that you have peace of
mind, check if there are any
cracks when you open the
valve cover just to make sure you
replace it because
the timing belt is a very crucial part and the last car
parts for this video are the car
batteries. Usually the typical car
batteries that are installed in our
vehicles are what we call lead
acid or the ones they say are filled with
water. They are marketed as maintenance
free. So often when your vehicle is for
also a bad sign when
the battery breaks easily because sometimes
you really have a battery that breaks easily
because it depends on the brand
you buy and its warranty. So
just feel it when it's a little hard to
parts are also replaced as part
of preventive maintenance. Watch out for
