Hello and welcome back to my channel.
I'm Lee Automotive and today we've got
the famous Land Cruiser. Now, this
specific car is named by Toyota as
invincible. And you know what? Fair play
to them because this car pretty much
round the world is known for its
reliability and all round it being a
fantastic car. Now, can the new
generation live up to its predecessors?
That's what I want to find out today.
So, let's go have a look around it and
then go for the allimportant drive. The
car has a 2.8 L 4 cylinder diesel engine
with 202 brake horsepower and 500 Nm of
torque with a tow capacity of 3.5 tons.
The car has a new 8-speed direct shift
automatic gearbox and a naught to 62
time in 10.9 seconds. onto the look of
this car. And do you know what? I really
like that they've gone back to the sort
of original looking Land Cruiser, which
was quite squared and boxy. The more
modern ones seem to get more curved, and
I wasn't as big of a fan of them, but
this looks really smart. Now, the first
edition of these cars actually got some
really cool sort of circle LED
headlights and also this nice two-tone
paint. I much preferred that because I
thought it gave it more personality. I
still like the look of this. I just
don't think it's as cute looking really.
Um, and it sort of blends in, but it
just depends on what you're looking for
in your car. Now, something they've done
which is really cool is most of the
panels here, it's very, very complicated
looking, but there is a reason for that
because they've made it so when you're
off-roading, things like the bumpers, if
you scratch it here, you can just
unscrew here and you don't have to
replace the whole thing. So, I love that
they thought of that. What I really like
about this is that you can recognize
that it is a Land Cruiser. A lot of
modern cars don't look like their
original cars before them, but this with
the shape of the windows and the size of
them, you can just tell what it is, and
I love that. Now, this car measures at
just over 6 foot, and I'm about 5' n,
maybe a bit taller, and I love the
height of it, but it's not too tall, so
you can still get into car parks and
things we found this week, which is
super good. Now the wheels are 20 in and
we have six bolts which you might have
noticed and that is because of how
rugged this car is. Normal cars get five
bolts which is quite interesting. We
also get these side steps as standard
which make it a lot easier for people
like my mother who's like 53 and found
it quite hard to get in. Visually this
is probably my least favorite angle of
the car. I just feel like it's a little
bit boring. And that is personal opinion
but let me know in the comments. And the
reasoning for that is before we used to
have a side hinge door which opened this
way. I just think it gave it a little
bit more character although it's not as
practical as the boot is now. We also
have the spare wheel underneath but I
would quite like it on the actual car.
Again, not very practical. I just like
it from a 4x4 looking perspective. Now,
it is super practical though because we
have a boot, split tail boot, which
opens like this, which is great for if
you've got dogs. And also something
super handy, which is a pet peeve of
mine, is this bootstep here is actually
sort of plastic. And the amount of times
our dog scratches it, even if we get a
cover, somehow he manages to scratch the
little side of it. Having this is just
super practical for every day, not just
off-roading. Let's have a look inside.
Come and have a look. So, inside with
all the seats up, we have 500 L of boot
space, but the Toyota Land Cruiser in
the UK, all of them come with seven
seats. So, when this is up, we have just over
100 lers of boot space, which isn't very much.
It's angry.
After those technical difficulties,
which actually are quite handy because
we didn't have the seats far forward
enough, so these back seats wouldn't
come up. And it's only a little bit we
had to move it, but it's good to know.
So, I'll use this one actually. You've
got a button here, but you have to press
the button the whole time, which I don't
think is that much of an issue. Um, but
these are really easy to use. They go up
quite fast.
And when they are up, you have to
manually pull up the headrest,
which is okay. And you have a decent
amount of space to actually sit, but as
you can see, not much room here. You can
hear the car's beeping, and for some
reason, it does beep quite a lot. And
I'll get into that when we go and look
at the front of it. But just to let you
know, it's a bit of a beepy one. Okay,
onto the middle row of seats. Right, we
have heated and cooling seats at the
back. Now, these aren't fully cooled
like the front. They sort of cool from
the side, but it's still a nice touch.
We've got two Isoix here. Now, in the
whole car, we actually only have two
Isoix, which isn't great because in some
other cars, you get iceix in a lot more
seats. I mean, it's fine, but it it's a
bit annoying. Now, the Iceix are
actually covered with a nice bit of
leather, which I think looks quite smart
as well. Two USBC chargers. We can move
the seats back and forward. The back of
them sort of recline quite a lot. And
also, the rear seats recline as well.
It's nice and bright in here. We've got
the grab handles and the speakers are
JBL. And all round the speakers aren't
terrible. They work quite nicely. But
we'll go into the front now and talk you
through the entertainment. I absolutely
love it. This is a really nice place to
be. So, I've heard a few people say that
the interior quality isn't really up to
scratch. And I don't know what you're
expecting. I mean, even my sister who's
got a BMW said, "Oh, I don't like all
the scratchy plastics." And I said,
"It's this isn't a Range Rover. This is
a utility vehicle, but that you can use
every day." And I think it's finished
really nicely. These seats are super
comfortable. And my mother is the
biggest critic when it comes to seats.
Even Range Rover seats, she says, aren't
comfortable. But her verdict were these
seats are comfortable and we went on a
three-hour trip and she praised them.
Now we have heated and cooled seats and
sometimes the cooling seats are even a
bit too much because they are so cold
but they come out of all the little
holes here and I think they work really
nicely. Um, and I will say something I
really do like is that when the
infotainment and stuff is on, you turn
the car on, you put your heated seat on,
and the next day when you get in or when
you come out from shopping, it's still
on. It's still saved with how you had
it. Now, this did work in a good sense
because I was hot and I got in the car
and it already had cooling seats on. I
was like, great. But then in the other
side, my other half for some reason in
the middle of June had heated seating on
in the evening. And then when I went in
in the morning, I went on a journey and
I was like, "God, it's hot in here." And
realized the heated seat was still on
and the steering wheel. So, it works
both ways, but I actually do like that
it stays on. Now, I have said this car
is quite beepy and it has a lot of
safety features. One of them being that
it's got a camera at the front of the
wheel that looks at you and it says sit
up. Driver not paying attention if you
aren't paying attention. Even if you
just sort of look to the side, it gives
you a bit of a uh noise. The rest of it,
I think, is really good. The lane
assist, the cruise control works really
well. Everything in this car just works,
and that's what I like. We've got lots
of buttons. The infotainment screen is
quite basic. Um, I'd say it's a 12.3 in
screen. It's not too big. It's nice and
integrated, but the actual settings and
things are quite basic. But I think
that's quite nice when you come from
cars that are so over complicated and
even turn doing things like turning the
AC is too complicated and distracting. I
think it's nice to have something that
just does the job and it works. And most
of the time I think we all use Android
or Apple CarPlay. Anyway, we have three
USBC chargers and also weirdly a HDMI
charger. And I have been doing some
research on this and I can't really find
the reasoning for it. I think some
people say you can use YouTube, you can
it's more sort of HD, but do let me know
in the comments. We've got all the
controls, all the buttons, everything is
laid out really, really simply. We even
have a cool box which fits four 500ml
bottles in. Um, it does say here do not
put fish or meat in. So, I wouldn't
suggest that. That's a bit gross. I
think it goes off when the car is off.
So, don't do that. Just keeps your water
nice and cool. But overall, the front of
this car's cabin is very driver focused.
Everything's very simple to use, and I
really, really have enjoyed driving it
this week. But I think it's time we go
for the allimportant drive. And let's
see how this thing handles as a daily
driver. It's the ultimate off-road
machine, but can it be a daily? Now,
let's talk about how good this car is
off-road and also all of the fancy tech
it comes with. So, it has a stabilizer
disconnect mechanism, allowing the front
stabilizer bar to disconnect, enhancing
wheel articulation for better off-road
performance. It also features an
electronic rear differential lock and
multi-terrain select with multi-terrain
monitor for versatile handling. It's
built on a ladder chassis like the
Grenadier. This design separates the
chassis from the vehicle body. It makes
it more rigid and structurally sound.
With an added 12 meters of structural
adhesive for improved durability. Also,
with four-wheel drive low mode activated
and also mid mode engaged, you can
activate crawl mode, which acts like
cruise control for off-roading. Now, I'm
sure you guys have seen tons of reviews
on how this car is off-road. And I'm not
going to be taking it off-road. We know
it's an extremely capable car. I've gone
through all of the things that you have,
all of the great technology for off-roading,
off-roading,
but most of the time with this car,
you're going to be daily driving it. So,
how is this car to drive as a daily?
Now, I've recently reviewed the Inos
Grenadier, and I also own a really old
1989 Land Rover. So, I'm used to cars
that take a bit of concentration, that
bit more of concentration to drive. you
know, your leg might feel a bit sore
after doing the clutch or the steering
and the Grenadier, for example, or
you've got to think a bit more about it.
This car is the complete opposite. I've
genuinely just got in it and gone. I
just go. I have done I've almost done a
full tank, so about 340 miles in this
car. and it's been a car that I've just
got in and I haven't really had to think
about much apart from obviously driving,
but I haven't had to think about
anything extra. So, the gears, I think
the gearbox is pretty good for a car
like this. It's the new 8-speed
automatic gearbox, and I know there's
been some reviews that say it's a bit
jerky. I haven't found that. I think
that for this car, I think it's been
absolutely fine. Um, it's responsive
enough. It's got the 2.8 8 liter engine
that it had in the previous model. And I
will say it does feel that little bit
underpowered. Competitors like the new
Defender and the Inos Grenadier have six
cylinders. This only has four. We've got
200 brake horsepower as I've said, and
it just feels like it's not enough for a
car like this. To be honest with you,
I'm going through country lanes right
now. And although this is an absolutely
huge car,
it's not been that unpractical in size.
I mean, I haven't had an issue getting
into car park spaces. The turning circle
is brilliant compared to a Defender,
even compared to the Inos. It's really,
really practical. The steering is so
light. And I will say, so my dad was in
the previous video with the Inos
Grenardine. You might have seen that.
And he came in this car with me and said
that I do think it's a bit too easy to
drive. He said, "I want that bit of
ruggedness with it." And that's quite
interesting because I think if you had
this as a daily has got that element of
ruggedness, but it's also maybe too easy
to drive for some people that are used
to maybe the older cars and they want
something with a bit of feedback with
the steering wheel. They don't want the
steering to be so light. I did think
that was quite an interesting take. But
if this was my only car, my only daily driver,
driver,
I am absolutely I'd be thrilled with it.
I mean, you can fit everyone in it. You
have so much road presence. You feel
super cool getting in it. If you know,
you know this is one of the best
off-road reliable cars that you can get,
to be honest. And everyone gives you
that sort of nod of approval. They're
looking at you and you're just driving
and you're just like, I'm quite cool.
I'm cool. I could have got a defender,
but I didn't. And I think nowadays
having a new defender is being part of
the herd. Whereas this, I have seen
maybe one or two on the road. I really
don't see many at all. Miles per gallon
wise, it's claimed from Toyota to be
about 26 mp gallon. Now, I'm pleased to
say that I've actually been getting
more. My average is 29.1 on this whole
tank. Now, that's a mixture of motorway
driving and also driving around town.
And I think for a diesel, for a big old
chunky diesel, I know we're used to
having great miles per gallon from
diesels, but this is a heavy big old
car. And I'm quite chuffed with 30 miles
per gallon, to be honest. I mean, the
Inos Grenadier was not as good on miles
per gallon. Although the engine is
underpowered, it doesn't scream at you.
You've got the sound of the diesel.
You've got that sort of trajectory
sound. And again, I've seen reviews
where people have been like, "Oh, it's
too loud. There's no soundproofing.
I like that it's a bit loud. If it
didn't, if it wasn't very loud, I'd be
like, "Oh, I'm just in any other car." I
like that it's got that diesel sound,
the tractor sound to it, because you're
in a Land Cruiser. I think we should
talk about the elephant in the room
because I've gone on the price briefly
at the beginning of the video, but this
car is £77,000
and that's by no means cheap, but you
get a heck of a lot of car for your
money. And for some reason, and I have
done some research into this, and I
think it's mainly down to the
reliability and the audience for this
car that there's all they're always in
demand, but please do add anything in
the comments if you have a take on it.
But these cars out of any other car seem
to hold their value so well. Even if you
got a 2003 Land Cruiser, you'd still be
looking minimum, absolutely minimum 10K.
Final thoughts on the Land Cruiser Invincible.
Invincible.
I absolutely love this car and I
understand the hype with it. Everything
just works and it's so nice to just get
in a car and go. I know there's been a
lot of talk about the engine being too
loud, the price being too high, but the
engine being too loud, I don't think is
an issue. For me personally, coming from
things like Land Rovers, I like a bit of
sound. I like a bit of character. I want
to hear the gears moving, and I don't
mind it. Yes, it could do with a little
bit more power. The Disco One's just
gone past. Sorry, got distracted. Yes,
it could do with a little bit more
power, but I still think it's a great
daily driver. It's so easy to drive. You
just get in and go. And people have said
about the gearbox. Again, I haven't seen
a problem with it, but then I am used to
old Land Rovers and things. So, I think
this is a brilliant daily. Price-wise,
like I've said, the price for some
reason of these cars, well, I say some
reason, we know it's because of the
reliability of these cars. if you're
it's expensive, but the price doesn't
really go down. I think they hold their
value really well. And this is the sort
of car that you'll just have in the
family and it will just keep going on
forever and it will be with you at every
stage. So, thank you for watching and
let's see you guys in the next video. Bye.
