energy drink it's called I'll tell you

after you take a sip

take oh wow it's good right that's not

too sweet right that's why called el

blood what it's the dumbest [ __ ] name

ever but it's really good elk blood yes

yes oh great I just drank elk I like to

eat I just wiped off my lipstick I like

to eat elk I just never drank elk blood

well neither neither still haven't but

but it is really good cuz a lot of them

are way too sweet for me and like you

know yeah um so this is my weird thing

you have cool kicks so I won't ask you

okay I can never like I'm always doing

TV like with this looking professional

but then I can't like get comfy and talk

without warm fuzzy socks so the question

is if you are secure then you would join

me with a

fuzzy oh you do you put you put your I

wear them during the show like that's my

thing do you say Yum Yum Yum on

them you want to see how comfortable I

am I really do I'm going yum yum yum

this the test no way this

we're we're going to leave that alone

not good I don't know who's busier in in

the sports world right I mean who can

you think of that's busier than you yeah

the difference is between us and every

other sports league is we don't have a

season we go pretty much every Saturday

that's what I'm saying so to me you win

because the others have a season and so

you get through sock these socks are

[ __ ] with my head right now you know

that was my goal Mission accompass we

can end the podcast right now um these

socks are in my head no I I think they

look fabulous um look so this is what I

do every time as I get here and then I

forget that I don't have my old lady

glasses is like to um to read cuz I'm of

that age when do you slow down like when

do you because you don't have a a season

like when do you take time for you uh I

I don't know I don't know if I need time

from me I uh I love what I do so much uh

me caught me here in a bad moment uh

getting off the plane and and whatever

but this stuff happens daily over there

you said it and you're right I thrive on

it I love it um but you know I'll go on

vacations with my family here and there

and and uh we we got our time in and

it's good you know what you know what I

can't stand I can't go on a vacation for

more than 10 days but by day 10 I'm done

I'm done it's over and I can't wait to

get home and get back to work and where

were you end of 20123 you in different

countries I went to Abu Dhabi yes and

then from there I went to the Maldives

and then I went to Bali mald okay and

that was that was part business part

pleasure no it was it was all it was all

pleasure my kids big Surfers so we we

went on a big surf trip they all wanted

to go on the surf trip so we did it we

got Abu Dhabi just opened the biggest

surf park in the world and it's

incredible this thing is going to be I I

think a lot of people are going to

travel there to to uh to use this wave

pool it's it's incredible yeah and the

plans that they have for it Abu Dhabi is

one of the most Progressive uh cities in

the world the royal family there is

they're incredibly smart humble

amazing people that I've had a

relationship with for a long time and uh

I love Abu Dhabi it's on my list it's on

my bucket list you come do a fight there

seriously really am I getting am I

getting an invitation yeah October we

have a fight in Abu Dhabi you should

absolutely come it's it's it's such a

cool experience and uh you know to do it

around first of all nicest hotels in the

world heard greatest restaurants in the

world the best shopping in the world

it's it's off off the off the charts I

mean everything they do there is first class

class

what is that is it just a completely

different mentality about what okay we

work hard we deserve this like like why

is that next level because I've heard

that well these well trillion dollars

doesn't help I mean these guys are

probably worth a trillion endless money

for sure and and uh I just love that the

attention to detail and quality but you

know what normally what comes with that

type of money and that type of power is

a level of arrogance and you know zero

less than zero with these people they

are super humble very smart amazing to

be around um some of the best service

that you'll ever get when you're there

and just I I cannot say enough good

things about the royal family in Abu

Dhabi and all the people that surround

them wow all incredible people how

long's the

flight that's the thing it's 17 hours a

refuel yeah yeah yeah so last time I

went there we we refueled in Hawaii and

then the plane went the rest of the way

to AB that's amazing that's amazing okay

on the list and thank you yeah here's

the thing I I feel like we all those of

us in the Sports World of course but

even outside really have followed you

for so long and it's easy to kind of go

look up and oh yeah these are all of his

accomplishments but like I I know

there's there's just a heck of a lot

more to Dana White than um than just UFC

and my opinion from what I've seen on

the outside and from what I've read but

like um the fact that you persevered

through so much were you kicked out of

high school twice yeah yeah I get kicked

out of high school twice I went to a lot

of different high schools H let's just

say I wasn't a school guy I I I didn't

love school

um I always knew for some reason I say

this all the time but it's the truth I

was I've been very lucky in my life in

that I always knew exactly who I was and

what I wanted to do even when I was

young um and I knew School wasn't my

thing that school definitely wasn't

going to be my thing and at that time I

don't know if that's still the The

Narrative that's put on kids these days

but at that time the big narrative was

if you don't go to college you're never

going to amount to anything and you're

going to you know uh you're going to be

working these type of jobs for the rest

of your life and I never necessarily

believe that either I I believe that I

knew what I wanted and I focused on it

and I just went after it and I never

cared about money money was never a a

motivating factor for me being able to

do what I wanted to do was what

motivated me and when you do what you do

and you do it well enough the money just

happens yeah so school was okay we we

got to get through it to your point at

our generation it's just kind of what

you you had to do 100% but like where

did that confidence I guess come from

where you knew what you wanted to do and

you're going to make it happened was it

innate did you learn that no that just I

it was just in me I I I I never had

fear of of of failing or anything like

that I always had this philosophy like

at the time when I decided that I wasn't

going to do that job I was Bellman at

the boss haror

hotel and my thing was always like if

this doesn't work out I can always be a

Bellman right I love that I can be a

Bellman when I'm 50 I can be a Bellman

when I'm 35 I can be a Bellman whenever

I want to be but can I can I achieve

this other thing that I want why not

give it a shot I was 19 now is the time

not married I got no kids nothing tying

me down why would I not go for this

right now and all my other friends are

in college right you went to college

though this is going to be my college I

never really went to college I mean I

signed up I went to a few classes and

said you know what you were I already

knew this wasn't for me why am I even

trying to do this so I was working the

overnights at the Boston Harbor Hotel

and I signed up for classes at UMass

yeah so I would take the classes in the

daytime and not for me not for me so how

long did you last it a waste of money

totally a few a few days last days not

even a year I love it okay so you're you

or bouncer at one point yeah uhhuh at

the uh I I worked at the um um a god

what is it the uh was Irish bar in

Boston this the biggest most famous

Irish bar in Boston that I can't

remember right the second and laying

asphalt the Black Rose I worked at the

Black Rose Black Rose okay not familiar

uh laying asphalt oh yeah I was a paver

for these crazy Italian Guys in uh in uh

in Boston the Evangelista Brothers uh

Tommy EJ yeah they were but that was the

that that was the greatest job I ever

had the greatest job I ever had because

that taught me what real work was you

you go lay asphalt and you do

construction and pour concrete and these

type of things that's when you really

find out what real work is what what

hard work is these people that work

construction and and Paving and things

like this they get up every day and they

they work hard so like

um me like people say I work hard I saw

a quote from you where you said Stephen

A Smith works hard and I agree with you

hard work hard work it's relative yeah

you go go spend a a couple weeks

following a construction crew and

they'll show you what hard work is

really all about blue col like those

guys without those men and more and more

women now I mean we're not able to get

through the big dig in downtown Boston

like that that's the entire

infrastructure of just one city

absolutely right absolutely right the

guys who really do this they build the

roads and build the tunnels and and uh

build your houses that's that's work so

you do you think that before then you

know you're a teenager you're young and

you're like okay whatever I have dreams

but then you saw that and what did that

make you want maybe more than before

well the thing is for some people that

come out of

uh some kids that that you know grow up

with money um you know this is this is

the the scenario for my kids now my my

kids it's impossible for my kids to grow

up the way that I grew up right and and

it's just never going to happen you it's

impossible to do but your kids have to

have to have those jobs when they're

young when you're 18 19 20 21 years old

that you realize you learn things

from this is real hard work this is what

I definitely don't want to do right

maybe I want to do this you have to have

these kind of jobs to sort of form who

you are and and what direction you want

to go in so my my uh my son Aiden uh he

uh he worked at

U-Haul and uh the phone call Aiden when

was this this was uh Aiden was working

at U-Haul uh last year like the last

couple years and uh yeah I get these

phone calls doing everything he he had

to fix tail lights he had to uh unload

trucks he had to move trucks and do all

this stuff and the phone calls I would

get from him I would be like this is

awesome no way this is awesome yeah so

he uh he decided that he didn't want to

stay in college so um he uh he had to

take these these different jobs cuz he

was working on

this business of his own that he's he's

been trying to build and but you can't

just can't just build a business you got

to have money you got to make money you

got to do this so I'm trying to lead my

kids and right and the U-Haul job was

the greatest thing to ever happened to

Aiden I love it it's it's and he feels

that way not just Dad I don't know if he

feels that way yet but in 10 years he

will no but you said that he called and

he liked it no no no no he called me and

said you can't believe what I had to do

today and you can't believe this and oh

I believe oh I believe I I I've been

there son I did it did you have to did

you have to help him get the job or did

you say get a job and he found this like

no no no he went out and actually

applied for these jobs he went out and

had to put in applications had to apply

for these jobs um you want to hear

something hilarious yes and and I'm not

[ __ ] on their business I love their

business and completely respect their

business but he was he was looking for

jobs in

California let's just start there so uh

so he goes to In-N-Out Burger okay he's

going to work In and Out Burger a

business that I have nothing but respect

for in the way that that business is run

how it was built everything but he's

interviewing with with the lady and and

and she says so what is what are some of

your hobbies and he's like I like the

Box you're a violent person he's like uh

no I'm not a violent person I just like

the Box didn't hire him shut up I like

box yeah hello California I said that's

what you're going to get in California

buddy no way 100% okay would have been

kind of amazing to see your son flipping

burgers at in- and- out yeah right

doesn't he would have had to wear the

whole gear 100% yeah but you know what

uh In-N-Out Burger is one of the most

efficiently run companies yeah on the

planet um and uh you know everybody I've

seen all this stuff um online I own a I

own a burger company I own herbs Burgers

I didn't know that yeah so I oh my gosh

yeah so I said this will be great for

him he get in there and learn the the

burger business from the best I mean

these people are the best at what they

do and everybody that I've seen that has

worked at In-N-Out Burger has had

nothing but good things to say about

working there yeah not one I've never

read a negative thing they talk about

how clean it was how well it was run and

you know how well they were paid the

list goes on environment and and what

the leadership that tone that they said

right which is exactly what you've done

at UFC um did they did they end up

finding out who dad was uh who where at

were your signed at in for at U-Haul no

I don't think they did I don't think

they did that's really cool yeah my kids

don't really do that my kids aren't yeah

they're they're well sometimes it isn't

like not like you know my dad son it's

tough for Dana to you know but Aiden hey

you have the same name as he's like yeah

Aiden in Savannah yeah good job Dad

giving him that pressure bronny James

Junior like same thing yeah trust me we

we debated I didn't want to name him

Dana but my wife did so yeah yeah

they're worst names for sure I mean I

think he's probably probably honored

especially as they get older because

he's how old he's uh he's 23 now so the

ages are 23

22 and then my daughter will be 18 this

summer we'll be 18 okay is she leaving

this summer or is she going to be a

senior she'll be a senior yeah okay so

this is it yeah how do you feel about

that with a little girl too yeah no

listen me and my daughter are super

tight and and

uh I'm I'm one of these people like when

my oldest son first left it was very

weird and and uh I didn't like it at all

then then you get used to it and now I'm

at a point where I'm I'm happy for them

they're going to go on to the next

chapter of their life and you know the

the only thing I want for my kids is

that they're happy I don't care what

they do for a living I'm not one of

these guys it's like you know oh you got

to go to med school and be a lawyer and

all this other [ __ ] I I I literally

want my kids to be happy I don't care

what they do as long as they're happy

one of the things I did when they were

very young is I got them into surfing

when they were babies

I the whole surf cure and I hope one of

them or all three of them just become

Surfers and just travel the world and

Surf and don't give a [ __ ] about

anything that that that I would be happy

for them if that was their deal I expect

nothing from them except to be happy

what a blessing to have a parent that

thinks that way as we know a lot of kids

I mean the pressures that so many of

these kids are under externally and then

even at home um but I think well

actually it would have been hypocritical

of you right to say based on the

decisions you made at that age 100% And

and they know those stories yeah I I

think the Dana I you know Aiden is on

his path right now he's about to he's

about to sign a really big deal with a

really big company that he's going to

become 50-50 partners with and that this

thing could be huge for him and it was

all off his concept and what he's into

he's big into comics and Marvel and all

that stuff so he's he's on the verge of

signing a very big deal to do what that

has nothing to do with me so what so

yeah so what's interesting is as we're

we're getting into the I'm obviously

involved in in in negotiating the deal

but I said we were just three days ago

on the phone with the with the company

and I said what do you expect from me

and like we expect nothing from you

listen if you you know want to help we

wouldn't mind but expect nothing from me

so this is him him and his partner did

this thing together and and when you say

comic books Marvel like the creation of

comic books like what exact I mean

incredible business that continues to

just boom so what my son turned me on to

is uh anime yes okay so my kids are

obsessed that's why I'm asking he's in

he's into anime and he cut this huge

deal out of Japan the whole thing and uh

he's telling me that he's saying you

know anime is supposed to be like a a

$500 billion doll business over the next

five or six years and he's got this

concept and his concept was dead on one

of the major Comic Book companies in the

world is into it and they're getting

behind it and yeah has nothing to do

with me I I mean if you put me on the

phone with these guys I I have no idea

what I'm talking about I don't know

anything about anime I don't know

anything about the comic book space um

yeah it's all him so that's that's

beautiful like that's that's a victory

right there because whatever you and

your wife an did right like instilled in

them appreciation yes but like something

in here to go get it yeah it's it's it's

uh it's all him yeah not not me but all

three of my kids I'm happy with them

they're all Dana doesn't have a he

doesn't know what he wants to do yet so

he's in school he's a senior this year

at USD and then he's going to go to grad

school and uh you know he's going to now

he's going to take some jobs and work a

little bit before he goes to grad school

and figure out what it is he wants to do

for the rest of his life and then

Savannah's got nothing but time she's

she's not even a senior yet so she's got

to figure out where she wants to go to

college cuz she wants to go to college

which is a huge decision yeah huge and

that's fully up to her fully up to her

yeah she you know what she just did she

just moved to San Diego and she's going

to school down in San Diego she wants to

Surf every morning so she moved to San

Diego she's down there living in San

Diego with her brother well with my wife

but yeah but her and her and her and her

her brother are surfing every morning

together and doing their thing and yeah

they're gonna they're going to live down

there for a semester so she can okay

that's amazing she can do it that's and

you're on the road so much all the time

anyway so well I go there every weekend

now oh you yeah so I sgo you're G to get

that Surfer kid you're you're going to

get that I think it's that I I just want

them to be happy and I'll let them make

these decisions and do what they want to

do and try new things and you know I

didn't have the money to do this stuff

but when I got kicked out of school I

ended up in a lot of different places

not not uh because we had the financial

wherewithal to do it because I had to

you know I ended up graduating in Maine

I graduated from school Maine cuz at the

time Vegas needed 21 credits Maine only

had 18 so I went there so I could

graduate took three classes graduated in

Maine and that's how I I why Maine one

my my grandparents lived up there and I

got a bunch of cousins up there and I

actually love it up there yeah like they

only needed 18 I'm GNA finish it here I

was just on a on a on a podcast talking

about did you hear about this this this

team up in Maine uh they're a basketball

team that's crushing all the other teams

so now the league that they're in or

whatever is trying to impose a a um uh I

don't know how like for scoring like

that that they might not be able to play

certain teams and things like this CU

they're too good here we go yeah so I I

literally called the coach this week and

said let me tell you

what your kids are studs I love it keep

kicking everybody's ass and and if you

guys if you want when when you're done

with the season I'd love to fly you guys

all out to a UFC event and and uh treat

these kids to something awesome for

being such badasses and uh coach said

thanks so much for the call we

appreciate your you know your support

and all that stuff but yeah I'm I'm

going to end up flying these kids out

somewhere and bringing them to a fight

and was there connection and and like

with this school or you you I'm not

connected school at all just I think

that the the the people that are even

considering doing this to these kids

make me sick it's gross and uh yeah I

just wanted to make sure that these can

imagine being on the receiving end of

that phone call like that's so cool

you're like the coach is like excuse me

is this a prank and the fact that you

you want to go to that length to let

them know because the that's the beauty

of sports it isn't just about winning I

mean yes winning and losing but the

lessons that you're learning there do

not take your foot off the gas right

hell no you you go and guess what

destroy teams by 100 points if you're

capable of doing it if that's what

you're capable of doing then do it 100%

and and to try to take away this this

this uh you know Killer Instinct from

these kids is absolutely disgusting you

know Michael Jordan I don't never want

to meet him don't ever want to talk to

him I love Michael Jordan I love Michael

Jordan I love the killer that he was you

know uh everything about him uh when I

watched the last dance I watched the

last dance three times yeah so good and uh

I wear his shoes his socks still to this

day and and uh just all the things that

I hear about Michael Jordan even the bad

bad stuff that I hear about Michael

Jordan I love so fine yeah you know I

get into um debates a lot people always

like you know you meet somebody at a

restaurant and it's always some guy like

okay okay what do you think about this

and this and this and that that always

comes up LeBron or Michael LeBron or

Michael and I'm like okay you can kind

of be a prisoner of the moment and maybe

I'm a prisoner of that moment of of of

the 90s but um I was able to cover him a

little bit Pacers Bulls Series in the

mid late 90s and Eastern Conference

Finals and you know just in this

presence was a little intimidating as a

young reporter to be honest with you

then worked in DC um when he was with

the Wizards in the front office and then

when he's like screw you guys let me

show you how it's done and I'm going to

come down and show you young kwami Brown

how it's done and I don't care if I hurt

your feelings loved it people were so

upset over it right but I always say you

can debate I guess the ex's and O's and

the basketball prowess and all of that

um what Michael has that nobody else has

ever had to that level is that Killer

Instinct and never accepting anything

less from anyone else around him and if

you don't bring it he's going to let you

know and to me that's the intangible

that LeBron that others cannot come

close to matching Kobe I think Kobe is

probably the only other one maybe you're

right you're right um and you're you're

absolutely right I love the line in

there where he's talking about

everybody's talking about how mean I was

and I was a bad guy they all won

championships too didn't they yeah

exactly you're welcome exactly yeah

you're welcome right what are we here

for I know why are we doing this we are

we just here to you know we're wasting

our time 100% absolutely I I love that

about Jordan and and then the whole

LeBron um I mean Michael Jordan and

LeBron couldn't be any more opposite

that in in my opinion and I don't judge

anybody by their politics this is

America whoever you are and whatever you

believe in knock yourself out but one

thing about LeBron LeBron is one of

these guys that that became a massive

Superstar overnight you never hear

anything bad about LeBron you might not

like his his style of play you might not

like his politics you might not like

whatever guy's never in trouble he's

obviously you know a great father to his

kids he's obviously great husband to his

wife I mean I I there isn't too many

things that you could say about LeBron

that that are bad unless you just don't

agree with them politically which is

ridiculous anyway to judge somebody on

their politics exactly to me it's there

you you if you can't separate then I

don't want to have that that

conversation with you true uh but also

hi he's about 40 and look what he's been

able to do for so long at that level

still competing at a high level takes

his job seriously uh you know I there

isn't too many bad things you can say

about LeBron James go go for it I I

respect him very much I do too I do too

um Jordan is just my [ __ ] I love

Jordan love Jordan how not how have you

not met him I don't want to meet him I

don't want to I actually like that every

time I've met somebody like that I you

know it's like crap

ruined if there was anything that ruined

my the you know the love that I have for

Jordan I I I I don't want to meet him I

I don't need to meet

him I feel like the two of you in a room

together would be just a great I'd love

to be a fly on the wall That's all

that'd be a hell of a conversation I'm

I'm a huge Michael Jordan fan man love

to um back to like um asphalt pavement L

today and and how you have evolved in

that role as a leader of

thousands sure how like how have you how

have you gone from that kid who knew

what you wanted to be great yeah but to

be responsible for so many what sort of

happened to me is all throughout my life

I you know I didn't go to college barely

got 18 credits in high school uh I I was

always really good at learning I guess

you would say on the job or learning

from other people around me or learning

from things that I've seen and things

that I've experienced and you know I I

would have to say that

um I've always gone with my gut I've

always been very instinctual and things

that I've done including going through

covid and and and a lot of things that a

lot of other people didn't agree with I

mean I've been involved everything I've

been involved with are things that

people don't agree with from fighting

you know uh the UF

when we bought the UFC everybody thought

it was uh you know um a bad idea even

even with the fertitas uh fertitas

obviously were big believers they they

they invested heavily in this thing but

the people around them all the people

that we were the redheaded stepchild of

the uh fertita portfolio I can tell you

that um everybody believed that the

fertitas were going to lose all their

money on this thing but the fertitas

were solid and believe didn't right

into Power slap what was what more hated

and and [ __ ] on than this over the last

year oh my gosh this business has

exploded and one year it's been one year

and two weeks and this thing is one of

the biggest things I've ever been a part

of um so instinctually I've always sort

of you know known what to do and when to

do it my whole thing with going through

co co co never made sense to me right

the whole thing never made sense if this

thing's as deadly and is as dangerous as

everybody says we're all dead anyway

right we're going to hide in our houses

and this thing's just going to go away

if we hide in our houses that doesn't

make sense remember we can go to a

restaurant take our masks off and eat

dinner and then put our mask back on and

get up and want to go pee things have to

make sense you have to put it back on if

you're standing to go pee right things

have to make sense they don't make sense

now nobody even talks about Co anymore

this thing was the deadliest most

dangerous thing a couple years ago poof

it's gone fight Island I me I

mean I remember I remember when news

broke and it's like wait what that was

the talk what's he doing well that that

one a lot of the things that I really

learned and and if you've ever seen my

my complete hatred for the media these days

days

like I hate the media I hate them and

there's very few people in the media

world that I will deal with uh there's a

company called Sports Business Journal

right they are in the business of sports

I they're literally the only people that

I will talk to about the business of

sports we're we're doing a story with

them right now this story has

been six weeks and they've done

factchecking like four times so when

this story journalism actual journalism

what a concept factchecking like four

times they didn't just fact check with

me they fact checked me the guy who I

have run in the company this guy over

here who's running our other company

like they're factchecking all this stuff

they're the only people that I will talk

the business of sports with is sports

Business Journal and then there's a

handful of guys while I was flying here

when I was all pissed off uh when I

walked in your door here

today there's a fight that's falling

apart while I'm on the 30 minute flight

here and these website guys I don't even

call them journalists these website guys

are posting that oh they didn't do this

they didn't do that they're lying FL out

flat out blatantly lying and I literally

posted a text message from the fighter

that they're saying that the lie was

about where's my phone I didn't see your yeah

yeah

so I don't know how we got into why

though but but the media is so bad why

are those journalists in particular

maybe you know specifically not them but

what what's the goal of them to lie

click baiting it's all about clickbait

they it's about being first and not

about being right yeah they don't even

care it's all about getting these clicks

and getting attention and you know it's

just it's become this it's just a

cesspool of uh people who are

unqualified to even be in that space let

alone there's still a handful of real

journalists out there that I will

actually talk to that you know actually

fact check and when they report it they

they know even with the sports Business

Journal story as it gets closer to to

getting released they keep calling for

updates or changes that may have

happened before the story prints that is

journalism that's so good to know yeah

because I think honestly the majority of

America now the distrust in the media

100% I mean I remember telling athletes

that all the time they're like well you

and I go listen I I understand why you

don't trust us you know give me a chance

I promise and you can see what I you

know before I post it whatever but I I

understand it I just don't know how to

fix it I I believe whether sports or

politics it's too far gone fix this is

how you fix it this is how you fix so if

you're somebody like me you only do

Sports Business Journal right who you

know is credible and you only do podcast

with people who aren't out there trying

to go gotcha you know what I mean get to

to to throw something out there or or to

post something that isn't true or to or

to try to clickbait and get fast hits

off it if you're guys like me if you're

an athlete or you're running Sports

organizations you whatever you do Sports

Business Journal and you do podcasts

that's it where you sit down and have an

honest convers ation about things

whether it's the business or whatever it

might be but you also are in

multi-million doll media deals with ESPN

with with the biggest Sports Network in

the world right and so how do you manage

that when you don't necessarily want to

deal with maybe some specific people who

work there well if you if you even think

about uh ESPN I'm going to tell you uh

Stephen A Smith Stephen A Smith is and I

know you you and Stephen have your

whatever I'm you I I talk about people

based off my relationships with them as

it should be has been the most standup

guy I have ever dealt with in the media

there's guys like him another guy named

Kevin ioli who's been a big sports

writer for a long time

time

um you know there there are guys out

there that that you can have these

relationships with that you trust

absolutely um I've had plenty of people

at ESPN that I don't trust I know and

that I don't do interviews with but

Stephen A Smith isn't one of them

Stephen A Smith has been never been

anything but stand up with me Stephen A

and we really don't have a thing a beef

we might have different opinions on

things but that's like anybody and I and

I love that and respect that those

conversations can be had um one of the

many things I do respect about him is

that he will also admit when he's wrong

about something and that's what is also

missing in journalism I mean when you

look at you were talking about Co a

second ago right I mean how about the

top leadership no no one has really come

out or it's like a dribble or it

accidentally gets out right okay yeah we

were wrong about this so we shouldn't

have done to me as a leader so getting

back to UFC right as a leader that's the

best that's all I ever wanted y but and

and by the way as a parent as well

because it's it's one thing to to pound

your chest or P yourself on the back

when things are going well and the

ratings are great or whatever it is but

when stuff's hit in the fan as a leader

are you owning that too 100% the other

one is Pat McAfee yeah Pat MAA is now on

ESPN one of the most standup you know

Straight Up Guys you could deal with um

and when you really think about it what

I just said it's a podcast he's a

podcaster he didn't get into this to be

a MMA or Sports journalist he's a

podcaster yeah who who you can trust and

you can go in and have an honest

conversation with these are the people

that I want to talk to that's it but the

key word

conversation thank you that stood for

what you believed in yeah you fought the

fight and now here you are and and I I

flew here today because I respect you so

much and this is your first podcast this

is the first week we're doing I mean

first week I'm I'm honored to sit down

here and talk to a badass woman like you

and you know this is these are the type

of interviews that I will do you know

all this other [ __ ] I'm done two

most uh hated and and unliked people on

the planet right now are politicians and

the media yeah nobody likes them nobody

trusts them nobody believes a word they

say I'm done I have a handful of

uh people and and and uh interviews that

I will do and that's it I you know what

I'll do my whole thing is social media

now you want to know what's going on and

and what the truth is I'll announce it

on my social media you control it it's

the only way it's the only way and I I

just when you know it's true it's real

right I need I need to thank you because

um we connected thanks to freaking

social media right on Instagram and um

when you reached out just just to say

that you were proud of me I like it

meant the world because of how you run

your business and I've never really met

or talked off of TV a couple times right

exactly um and I feel like there's so

many people who actually agree with the

premise of of speaking your truth but

number one don't um out of fear and you

know I get that right I I do understand

the fear I think to hear it though from

someone like you I'm just going to be

honest that it was shocking not then

again it's St white it's different right

because you have always stood for what

you believe especially recently and it's

so needed and so refreshing but not to

be too mushy but

like I haven't heard that from anybody

any leader and um it just meant the

world because sometimes you feel like

you're the only one out there and by the

way this is isn't even about me anymore

this is about if we as a society stay

quiet um we're all doomed it doesn't

mean we have to be on the same page 100%

And I have three kids who are watching

and people who followed me on ESPN so

how can I say women how about women

Stand Tall be strong you know go after

those dreams and then I go silent when

it gets a little scary and you run and

hide can't do it

so there's so there's so many layers to this

this

so at the end of the day all the the

racial um men

women gay

straight all the Nutty [ __ ] that's going

on right now the one thing that needs to

be fixed and that we all need to realize

is we are all Americans okay we are all

Americans and and and the minute

everybody realizes that and this whole

weird [ __ ] narrative that's going on

right now about uh these people who hate

our country right this is this is the

greatest place in the world it's not

perfect never going to be perfect

nothing's perfect but that's how I

always think of myself I always think of

myself I'm an American right and all

these other people like you and

everybody else that lives here we're all

Americans and uh we have to stand up and

we have have to tell the truth and we

have you I heard you say this a few days

ago too where you're saying you know how

many people I know in this industry that

reach out and say thank God you're doing

this cuz I wish I could do this you know

me [ __ ] people say that to me I can't

imagine everybody and I'm friends with

everybody you know I me say to them you

know what I I I I I actually feel sorry

for the

people like the position that you felt

you were in where you felt like you

couldn't come out and be yourself it's

almost got to be like um

I guess I I I I would equate to being

gay and not being able to tell people

you're gay you know what I mean like

having to hide from being gay or

something like that has to be a horrible

feeling [ __ ] that [ __ ] life is too short

to live that kind of a life I I could

never do it and listen you can like me

not like me I don't give a [ __ ] what you

what you think of me I have a very close

group of people that I'm friends with

that I care with their opinions the rest

of everybody's opinions I could care

less about but more people have to stand

up for what they believe in and and it's

it's like I always say we just said it

five minutes ago I don't judge anybody

by their politics yeah this is America

you can believe and vote and do and

whatever you have these these sponsors

and and and uh sponsors

and media companies and all these other

people that are trying to tell people we

just I I just got into this with dioon a

few weeks ago about pelaton

a company that sells stationary bikes

for a [ __ ] living is trying to

silence Robert Kennedy Jr one of the

kennedies yeah and he's a Democrat

exactly who are you but he isn't fit in

the little box that you're supposed to

fit in who do you think you are that you

could tell somebody else to

silence um another American who has his

own opinions and beliefs on things and

you sell [ __ ] stationary bikes for a

living you arrogant

pompous I love keep going you're

speaking my language the best part to me

is the hypocrisy in it based on what

they preach what do those companies

preach because listen my Paton bike

saved my life in many ways that's a

little exact well there's another

company out there called Echelon okay

you should get the echelon bike and

throw your pelaton out in the in the

trash and I don't try to cancel anybody

no but how dare you how dare you call a

guy like Theo Von who's a comedian and

thank God for comedians by the way thank

God for comedians well there's so much

to make fun of well well no the the the

comedians are the ones in in in my

opinion that keep us all in check yeah

and and and find all the little stupid

funny ridiculous things that go on in

the world and we can all sit in a room

no matter what and listen to them and

laugh at ourselves and say wow how

[ __ ] stupid are we yeah yeah this is

amazing thank God for Comedians and you

even had the lunatics trying to cancel

them going after Chappelle going after

Rogan going after all these different

comedians who stood strong stood their

ground and and continued to do their art

in which we need badly so right now in

this crazy ass world we live in when

Dave Chappelle I mean one of many times

that he stood up but um it you know what

I think it was actually for me and that

went totally viral is is the transgender

joke and he's like okay okay so you want

men to say that they're women fine so

when LeBron James says no no no I'm want

and he's going to score 856 points night

it's like it's it's common puts it in

the perspective in perspective but he's

the only one that had the balls to say

it% and so I'm like okay if there's if I

had like a top three list of who I would

want to meet right now Dave Chappelle is

probably like 1A I don't know

because I hate to throw around this word

it shouldn't take courage but right now

because we know how everything's tied

financially fine he might have a few

money he might have that but but still

there's guys with more than him and

people that you're around every day some

of the top former NBA players no names

necessary who've reached out and they're

like girl I got you girl you're right

girl you're right I'm like do thank you

thank you number one number two do you

know the power that you would have or

that that you

could these guys with these voices and

mainly men with these voices if they

were to say listen I might not agree

with what she's saying but like what

what is this what is the hate when we're

all trying to bring people together and

it's the diversity of thought but the

fear that I have seen from grown ass men

who are so powerful and have the

platform and already have half a billion

dollars that's the part data that's been

shocking to me and um again I understand

the fear if you're like you know a

single parent making 60 Grand a year

like I I get that with with the other

side why but that's not true either it's

not about Fu money because at the end of

the day sure Dave Chappelle is doing

well but you have to give credit to the

CEO of Netflix when that thing went down

everybody was attacking Chappelle and

saying take that down cancel him blah

blah blah and and the CEO of Netflix

stood up uh and and uh and said no we're

going to keep this on on the air and and

you know if Chappelle lost that and

other people wouldn't put them on their

platform that there is no Fu money I

mean that guy could have got canceled

you know it it took that's leadership

100% leadership and the same thing

happened with Spotify with Joe Rogan had

to like kind of apologize a little bit

or soften it noan first of all the whole

Rogan thing that happened was 10 years

earlier and Rogan was quoting somebody

when he used the word it was a quote

Rogan wasn't go out and just using the

word then somebody went out and clipped

it all together and the times that he

was quoting others of saying it and

Rogan said whoa I saw this thing too it

looks bad and I apologize for the word

and whatever but and then everybody it

just well then it's like they smell

blood and it's somebody who's who who's

a little bit he descend a little bit and

he speaks his mind and wait what right

and then and then when you talk about

the fear it's like what Chappelle said

Chappelle said you know how many shoe

offers I've been made and I never took

one you know why because when they do

something you like the first thing they

do is take your shoes back and then once

they take your shoes back everybody else

starts going oh my God should we take

ours away too and and that's how it all

starts and this whole Snowball Effect uh

happens when when somebody tries to

cancel somebody else yeah

um but yeah you if if people don't stand

up to this ridiculous [ __ ] it's just

it's never going to end and it's going

to go on forever and uh but that's why

that's why I I I I don't know that you

ever were part of it though like you're

the only one I'm I'm done with it to a

level now where I'm just so openly

blatantly done like calling out pelaton

and other sponsors of mine I was with

some sponsors too that that that called

and I was like go [ __ ] yourself you've

talked about that recently yeah and take

your money roll it up into a little ball

and shove it right up your ass cuz I'm

done I don't want your money what I

don't want this kind of money what did

they say lots of things they they called

me they called me when I posted a video

on my own social media about Trump they

called me about Joe

Rogan they called me about um going

through Co called me about every if

somebody stubbed their [ __ ] toe they

called me on on the thing and finally I

got to the point said I'm [ __ ] done

guys so then you know when it was time

to when our contract was up you know

there was there was a big number on the

table and I said take that huge number

roll it up into a little ball and shove

it right up your board of director's ass

and I don't know what they did with the

money but I didn't take it I don't know

you shoved it up his board ass or not

but I didn't take the money I want the

visual can I see them shoving it can I

see them this guy that I'm talking about

is a guy that I respect too and I like

him we've had a good relationship him

personally I like him literally walked

into my office during the negotiations and

and

said my board of directors is is getting

uh is losing their patience with you or

something like that I

said these arrogant [ __ ] I said

have a seat I walk through the whole

history of our

relationship and uh he said but Dana

there's x amount of money on the table

right now and I that's when I literally

said do him I said here's what you do

get back on the plane you fly back to

where you're from you roll that big deal

right up in a little ball and shove it

right up your board of director's asses

[ __ ] you I don't want your money I'm not

taking your

money if this was

recent do they not know you like

that's what's confusing to me that it

just you know what I I think that

there's a level of arrogance yeah with

these people there's a level of pelaton

guy could you be any more [ __ ]

arrogant pelaton guy right it's gross

and these guys too and and there's lots

of people out there they have money and

they think that they they have a certain

level of control and that they can come

in and tell a guy like theovon or the

UFC or me or many many other companies

out there I'm sure and this is what they

in fear of I mean I just was it you

again I got all kinds of quotes from you

today uh oh what was it you again about

the uh I can't get canceled anymore as a

go no the the the the women's golf

tournament where these women that are

are trying to get sponsors are afraid to

speak up that a guy is playing against

them yes um you know and and because

because they're they're young golfers

who have nothing who are trying to

qualify and if they speak up the sponsor

will drop them or they're looking for a

sponsor and then they they're afraid

that they won't ever get one and then

they're dreaming is gone so they have to

go in and play against the guy and don't

women hit off shorter tees and Stu

that's the whole thing so this

guyen I'm not a big golf guy I'm not a

big [ __ ] golf fan but uh yeah I I

know they hit from shorter te's right

and they got to play against a guy

that's why it's all Bs and here's the

thing one thing I've always said uh for

over a year now because I was still at

ESPN when I started to speak out and

then I was told stop but I'm like no no

no no no because I've been part of

uplifting women and espnW and all these

things for my entire career and by the

way as a woman starting this business in

the '90s when there were no other women

in locker rooms Etc I've been Pro women

proom and all of a sudden you're telling

me to be quiet right stop so number one

I'm like where are my where are my women

where's the girls where's the women who

have fought with me and the youngsters

that we have helped pave the way for and

by the way long before me the Robin

Roberts of the world Title 9 we F fought

for all this for so long if we as the

women of the sports media would stand up

and come together

there's two me and Samantha Ponder who's

still there and she's brilliant and

strong and courageous yes but as far as

the broad Riley's Riley's the best by

the way at 24 she could talk circles

around me now at 50 much less 24

brilliant and so brave and strong but I

said if we don't come to like let's help

these athletes that we claim to care

about come together as women of the

media silence okay that that sucks the athletes

athletes

unfortunately are going to have to do it

um I I do Charlie on all too Charlie

Charlie's great without kick yes and

she's a former yaner as well Charlie's

Charlie's awesome so strong as well um

and saying things she's finally able to

have her voice also I'm like y girl I

love it unfortunately it's going to take

these female athletes to not play 100%

And that's pathetic by the way um the

dads in the room where are you these

high school volleyball teams and there's

guys out there I know there's no way if

your daughter's on that volleyball team

and there's a boy across the other side

of the net you're not letting that my

military father would never have let it

happen so yes they need to stand up but

I'm wondering where the big bad men are

mhm yeah thank God my daughter cheers

okay cuz uh if she played some other

Sport and I it would be a huge issue for

me and it would be a massive distraction

in my life because I would go guns a

[ __ ] blazing okay 100% um we have to

and you can

be whoever you want to be and you can

believe you are whatever you want to

believe I I always say this is America

you do your thing but men cannot compete

against women Peri it's it's ridiculous

and and it's it's common sense it is and

that's all I'm asking for Republican or

Democrat it's not has nothing to do with

any of that [ __ ] you know what I mean I

believe in everybody life is too short

live your life be whoever you want to be

do whatever you want to do you can't

compete against women and you can't go

in their locker rooms either it's it's

not right this is common sense this

isn't political this isn't hatred this

isn't any of that I I don't hate any

trans people I don't hate any gay people

have many gay friends whom I love and

respect and it has nothing to do with

that stuff it's about you know that um

the first time when I last summer when I

was speaking out about it um Megan

rapino uh went in Time Magazine and was

and was talking about the people who are

um a danger to the trans

athletes um and she named three people

Dave Chappelle Martina neova and me I'm

like well that's pretty good company um

who are inciting violence against trans

people by what by standing up for

women's sports no one's mentioning

anything about trans athletes and oh by

the way we have to address that because

they deserve a space too I think it

should be like an open so you have

female and you have open okay start

League fine by the way it's funny

there's no it's not going the other

direction of of women trying to go play

in the NBA or anything else and that's

fine we can leave that alone because

it's obvious as to why um but I thought

isn't that funny just by stating the

obvious the common sense the facts um

we're anti-trans and inciting violence

so um

again the dumbest thing I've ever heard

stupid it's stupid but I was like I do

love Chappelle I finally got in the same

sense as Dave Chappelle by idiot Megan

rapino um who incites hatred on around

you should be you're

strong wasn't the goal though Dana the

goal goal is obviously to when you

realize you have this platform I never

could have dreamt of anything going this

way but it's like if if I don't as a

woman who made it with tons of valleys

and mountains along the way um I better

do that because if not then what by the

way enough about me what I another thing

I loved about you and still do but I

mean it's a recent relatively recent

transaction um is is with bed light

because initially obviously you get so

much push back and it's like well B Bud

Light and what are you doing and what

you know what they have said and done

and it's almost

like first of all business-wise yeah

when when a company's down yeah they're

they're freaking desperate and and if

they're going to pay a lot of money why

wouldn't I take that and that's

simplifying probably but from an

outsider's perspective but number two

maybe more importantly people can make

mistakes and people I think deserve

Second Chances and even if it's big

Corporation because the actions of one

don't Define the entire company and I

loved that you gave them a second chance

what was your mentality behind you're

always going to have the crazy the crazy

on both side you got crazy on the

conservative side you got crazy on the

liberal side but basically you know I I

I just we were just talking about it

here when I uh am doing these deals now

I'm only doing deals with people that

I'm aligned with and people that I

really want to be in business with and

when you look at anheiser Bush as a

and as a whole is what they do you know

and I've said this publicly before but

they spend almost a billion dollars a

year with us Farmers for their for their

products um $44 million that they've

spent for their folds of honor where

they take care of Fallen uh First

Responders military police and and and

and rescue um if anybody you care about

has ever served yeah and you work at

anheiser Bush you can hang their

pictures in the hallways of anheiser

bush is there's a wall a mile long of

all these military people from like the

the 30s and you know all the way up till

today and you know I Walk The Halls and

and did all the things there I am way

more aligned with anheiser bush than

other beer companies so that's why I got

back in business with anheiser bush and

everybody can say it's about the money

um nothing is about the money for me

you've proven that nothing you've proven

that I mean do we need to tell the story

again you can wad up the little ball

and you know you know I I I just I'm not

one of these guys that I don't have to

go beat my you'll never see me showing

up at halftime and handing out a a a

six- foot check to to things I do

everything these days whether it's

donating charity taking care of other

people um aligning myself with with

people that I want to be in business

with um because that's what I want to do

and that's how I want to live my life

and it has nothing to do with public my

Public Image is actually probably worse

worse than uh you know I I was talking

to I had

I I had Shawn marman in my office

yesterday right

love and Sean walked around did a tour

of the office and and and we're talk and

we're talking about some stuff and he's

like why don't you talk about this stuff

publicly and I said Sean cuz I don't

give a [ __ ] that's why yeah I don't care

what other people think or whatever I

know and the people that I care about

know everybody else can think whatever

they want to think I don't give a [ __ ]

I'm not going to go out there and I I

just don't care it's just it's as simple

as that when did you stop caring I don't

know if I ever cared to be honest with

you I don't know if I ever cared when

you get in early and you start playing

the game and as you work your way up and

you start to see how things really work

and how the world really operates it's

actually kind of gross and I was never

going to be a person that would do

something against what I believed for

money I said it when I got into this

thing people thought it was ridiculous

that I wanted to be in the fight

business when I said I wanted to be in

the fight business we bought the UFC

people thought it was ridiculous and it

would never work and it was never going

to be anything um the media wouldn't

cover us anyway um we had to figure out

how to run this business without the

help of anybody then I wanted to start

power slap everybody [ __ ] on it and said

it would never work and didn't I if I

cared what people thought I'd still be a

Bellman at the Boston Harbor Hotel you

know what I mean that's the truth if I

really cared what people thought I'd

still be doing

that I have found um such freedom in

that when you let go I mean it sounds

like you've never had it which is a

blessing um I live one of those lives I

posted this the other day create a life

that you can't wait to wake up to I saw

that I live that life I

literally I hate to sleep I hate

sleeping I've never heard that before I

hate sleeping how much sleep do you get

not much what's that four four or five a

night I hate sleep I love every minute

of my life love every minute of it I

can't wait to wake up tomorrow I can't

wait to start tomorrow and and when you

when you really feel that

way I I just don't I really don't give a

[ __ ] about a lot of things I love it

wish it hadn't taken me 50 years cuz now

I'm like oh you don't like me okay

that's actually your loss cuz I'm

actually kind of nice pretty good friend

pretty loyal but fine next

it's so cool it's just I don't think

most people realize it ever at but but

certainly you're

rare thank you do you agree like who

else do you know that doesn't give a

rats you know what yeah I I think I

think they're I I think uh they exist at

some sort of level you know no no one's

and and this is why you're you there's I

don't know that there ever will be

anyone else I'm literally not kissing

your ass I'm serious because having been

an obser for so long um almost 30 years

in this industry you know and and

meeting and watching different

Commissioners and whether it's coaches

Commissioners um people who run leagues

everyone has has those concerns and

fears right um whether it's Financial or

whatever else just Image Ego I think

that's the word ego yeah I get it do you

care about that at all when it comes to

like Dana the man Dana the husband thing

of the father well me and my wife went

through a situation last year uh you know that we both had to had to face and

know that we both had to had to face and the only thing that mattered to us was

the only thing that mattered to us was our kids it's like I'm going to be

our kids it's like I'm going to be judged for the rest of my life for that

judged for the rest of my life for that um and I should be it happened I did it

um and I should be it happened I did it and when something like that happens you

and when something like that happens you got to get up the next day and look at

got to get up the next day and look at yourself in the mirror and say first how

yourself in the mirror and say first how did that happen and how I make sure that

did that happen and how I make sure that never happens again um and you know when

never happens again um and you know when I say judged you know there's a lot of

I say judged you know there's a lot of people like oh if it happened there that

people like oh if it happened there that isn't the first rodeo that's happened

isn't the first rodeo that's happened before everyone says that about anyone

before everyone says that about anyone that's caught like that 100% And I would

that's caught like that 100% And I would say the same exact thing not judging

say the same exact thing not judging people the same I would say the same

people the same I would say the same thing but at the end of the day here's

thing but at the end of the day here's the truth and you know this and

the truth and you know this and everybody else in the world that has

everybody else in the world that has kids know this your kids know exactly

kids know this your kids know exactly who you are if you're a racist your kids

who you are if you're a racist your kids know you're a racist if you are you know

know you're a racist if you are you know do things like that to your wife your

do things like that to your wife your kids know you the list goes on and on

kids know you the list goes on and on nobody knows you better than your kids

nobody knows you better than your kids do they lived it they live in the house

do they lived it they live in the house you know for 18 to 20 years and see what

you know for 18 to 20 years and see what they see and my kids know who I am my

they see and my kids know who I am my kids know what I'm about that's the only

kids know what I'm about that's the only [ __ ] thing that matters to me you

[ __ ] thing that matters to me you know what I mean um so when that

know what I mean um so when that situation

situation happened we had we had to deal with our

happened we had we had to deal with our kids [ __ ] media you think I give a

kids [ __ ] media you think I give a [ __ ] what they [ __ ] think they can

[ __ ] what they [ __ ] think they can all kiss my ass my kids were were were

all kiss my ass my kids were were were the focus and the priority during that

the focus and the priority during that situation and Dana my oldest you know

situation and Dana my oldest you know didn't talk to us for like four days

didn't talk to us for like four days really and you know you know we got

really and you know you know we got through it with them but at the end of

through it with them but at the end of the day kids know who you are and you

the day kids know who you are and you own it you came out right away publicly

own it you came out right away publicly and owned it I mean there's nothing else

and owned it I mean there's nothing else you could do I guess when something's on

you could do I guess when something's on tape but still the words that you you

tape but still the words that you you said and you used um stood out you know

said and you used um stood out you know I mean it was it was there's never any

I mean it was it was there's never any excuse you know this is on me and you

excuse you know this is on me and you mention your children too that's the

mention your children too that's the only that that was the the most

only that that was the the most important part of it that was the only

important part of it that was the only thing that mattered to me and my wife

thing that mattered to me and my wife you know nobody wants to see their dumb

you know nobody wants to see their dumb drunk parents slapping each other on TMZ

drunk parents slapping each other on TMZ you know what I mean so it is what it is

you know what I mean so it is what it is and when when you saw when you saw on

and when when you saw when you saw on tmy what what yeah yeah yeah no it was

tmy what what yeah yeah yeah no it was uh it was bad but it was bad but it

uh it was bad but it was bad but it happened yeah and it needed to be dealt

happened yeah and it needed to be dealt with and you know you know when I was

with and you know you know when I was going out talking about it publicly and

going out talking about it publicly and and you know you got the media asking

and you know you got the media asking you about apologies and we apologized we

you about apologies and we apologized we apologize to the people that we needed

apologize to the people that we needed to apologize to to our kids that's what

to apologize to to our kids that's what we did and and you know

we did and and you know um when when I had to talk about that

um when when I had to talk about that stuff publicly and I'm comfortable

stuff publicly and I'm comfortable talking about it public publicly it's

talking about it public publicly it's it's it's a part of my life and it's

it's it's a part of my life and it's something that happened and it's

something that happened and it's something that I had to deal with at

something that I had to deal with at home at home the rest of the world you

before I'm always trying to be better than I was today tomorrow I want to be
