I've had a few requests for quotes on
what it would cost to duplicate Billy
same what does that even cost it's a
little over $400 $400,000 to have the
world's fastest GTR since you don't you
know work on Hondas anymore but like how
do you feel about how far they've
Advanced now going into like Sav Inola
drive it's awesome so the GT4 it's such
a neat car to start from you know it
comes with I mean a better cage than
I've ever seen in any drag car so we
used to have the id2000 it can work with
liquid fuels but there's a lot of things
you got to be careful about BOS didn't
want anybody using those with liquid
fuels what about 10 years from now when
things shift over to EV do you ever
worry about how that's going to affect
[Music]
sure welcome back to another episode of
the street Alpha podcast I am your host
tkes and we have another Banger for you
guys out here in Texas and I'm so happy
that we have Tony Paulo on the podcast
Pao Halo Halo I'm sorry my whole life
I've gone with it it's not a big deal
but might as well fix it oh wow I've
always called you Tony PA yeah everybody
has that's good to know that's good to
know we all learned something for those
of you guys who don't know who Tony poo
is right you're the owner of T1 you've
been doing this for how long since like 20
20
5 uh I got into this industry in 1997
Automotive overall I started T1 in 2005
so you have some of the world's fastest
cars in this shop right GTRs or V10
platforms any other platforms you have
currently right now aside from those uh
that's only two we're doing so but you
started with Hondas yep it's kind of
interesting going from like a Honda to
having the world's fastest GTRs and v10s
yeah yeah we grew a little bit uh when
when I was in high school um I honestly
I didn't really care about cars BMX
bikes was my thing yeah and so when I
turned 16 I I got a car and you know
$2,000 Dodge Daytona was what I could
afford and um it it it looked kind of
cool it was a total pile of [ __ ] but it
was something I could put my bike in and
go other places to ride yeah and then my
friends in high school started messing
around street racing and stuff and I was
like all right that looks kind of fun
and so uh I bought my friend had a Civic
SI like a 95 SI I didn't know how to
drive a 5-speed so I bought a 95 Civic
DX automatic and you know it's only 20
horsepower difference on paper right
right the magazines the the header's
going to pick up 15 and then the intake
is going to give you like 10 and the
exhaust I was like it'll be the same and
we'd race it wasn't even remotely close
and so I had that for about a year and
then uh I decided I needed something
better so I bought a uh 92 Integra and a
D5 speed yep yeah and uh I went to pick
it up and uh the GU like you want to
test drive it I was like why don't you
test drive it so I rode with him I was
like all right cool I'll take it I paid
him I get in I'm like here we go I don't
know how to do this I knew how it worked
but I hadn't done it so that was How I
Learned to Drive 5speed I had a little
bit of cash left over because the Civic
was more expensive when I sold it uh I
went to jch the next day and I bought a
bunch of parts for it and I knew I
wanted it really low and so I bought
springs and you know I could put the
springs on um not that I'd done it I've
just had good mechanical sense yeah uh
but I didn't have any tools to cut the
springs and I knew I wanted it really
low and so um I told Kenny I asked him
if he'd cut the springs for me he's like
yall cut him I said I want to cut two
coils he's like man it's going to be too
low I was like I want it really low he's
like how about one and I was like how
about if we cut one and I put them on
and I want it lower if I bring the
Springs back we cut another one he's
like yeah go home put them on come back
the next day I was like man I want it
lower he was like you put those on
yourself and I was like yeah and I did a
couple other mods and he was like do you
want a job I'm still in high school all
the time working at a bike shop and uh I
was like yeah and so that's that's where
the car stuff started and I didn't I
didn't know anything about cars I didn't
know what turbos were how they worked
anything you know nothing I could look
at something and go okay well this bolt
needs to come out to take this shock off
to change of spring so that's where
that's where it all started so where do
you think your drive came from you think
it started back then from like just that
moment or was there another something
else that kind of inspired you kind of
keep pushing in the automotive industry
uh I I've always what whatever it is
that I'm doing I've always wanted to
understand how it works as much as I can
right you can't improve something if you
don't understand how it works right and
so you know knowing nothing there was a
lot plenty of stuff to learn and there
was a lot of drive to do it and so you
know back then I mean none of us really
do anything I mean we we're all learning
stuff yeah and so putting turbos on
things that weren't supposed to have
turbos and buying check valves from the
aquarium store for map sensors you know
we learned a lot as that went and so
when I started tuning tuning back then
was you know adjusting a fuel pressure
regulator adjusting some cam gears pry
basic yeah uh you almost couldn't hurt
anything and so I had a lot of
opportunity to learn we had a dyo next
door and so I would just go down there
and play and and learn all that stuff
well as the the the aftermarket industry
progressed uh the first fuel injection
stuff we did was very basic it was uh
Gen 6 DFI I mean it was as basic a fuel
injection as you're going to get and
then went to hondata and then eventually
um we went to the old motch M48 on
Kenny's car started learning that stuff
and you know everything's continue to
get more and more advanced but since I
was already you know on the on the edge
of what was available it was just about
learning the new yeah versus if you
tried to get into it today there's a lot
if you came in knowing nothing and you
tried to tune one of these cars like
you're you're going to be lost for a
long time right right so did you have
any um anybody who was like your
right-hand man that was kind of helping
you out with this stuff stuff the tuning
early on or you were just figuring stuff
out on your no I was just figuring stuff
out um I ended up uh I was at jch for uh
six or seven years mhm and um I was
building the engines I was doing the
tuning and it was just that the
information's out there for almost
anything you want to know right yeah um
I learned how to weld there we were uh
when we did a b Ser swap in a Civic yeah
you had to you had to weld the shift
linkage right we had a MIG welder didn't
have a hood I would mig weld and watch
what was happening after the weld to
adjust what I was doing like that cuz I
couldn't see the Weld and the welder
broke and uh Kenny went to the welding
store to buy another welder he comes
back with a TIG welder and I'm like what
I I don't know how to use this why did
you buy this yeah and this was so long
ago it came with a VHS cassette tape
with instructions and so I put it in and
I just started learning and you know
same deal like you know what with
welding you know what it's supposed to
look like cuz you've seen enough good
stuff right and you just keep adjusting
until it's getting better and better and
better right uh the first time I I
welded aluminum since we we we weren't a
Fab shop we didn't really have like
scrap materials uh we had had wheelie
bars put on Kenny Civic and we bought
those ones from from Jags or something
that have the it's a flat aluminum lower
bar okay and then a top bar and had
little springs in it but they didn't use
the aluminum lower bar the chassis shop
when they put them on so I had these
these strips of aluminum that were
anodized blue yeah and so I'm trying to
weld this not knowing you got remove the
anodizing to weld and I'm trying to weld
over it and I'm like man this aluminum
stuff's really hard cuz again I know
what it should look like and I can't
even get it in the ballpark yeah and so
uh at one point this was when the sport
comp the Honda Civic you know the Honda
scene was big uh a bunch of teams would
travel the whole series with n and
whatnot and uh a team came in and broke
something and had to come to the shop to
to use the welder and I saw him welding
and I I mentioned it and he's like oh
you got to grind the anodizing off and I
did that and all of a sudden that
clicked you know so everything I've done
I've I've learned along the way at the
time when you had the da what were some
of the things that you were doing back
then that you kind of figured out that
kind of was like advancing the Honda
platform back then I mean I wasn't
advancing anything I was just trying to
figure out what was going on so you
never raced that car you never broke any
records with the da uh I didn't break
any records but I I did I built the
motor it was it was an LS motor uh kept
it naturally aspirated you know big cams
supported ahe head uh I think I went 142
with that car uh which at the time no
VTech no VTech so was not okay at at the
time I mean that would that would get
you first to third in an all motor class
you know as far as a street car now
there was gutted crxs that were faster
they weren't necessarily even making
more power they're just really light
when I got rid of that I kind of got out
I got a BMW M3 and I was like I'm I'm
kind of done playing on the street I
wanted something nice and cool um and
then my Integra the the DC right that
came about because after I left jtech um
I worked for Bob Norwood for a couple
years and this was a car that I had
built at jtech and then uh when I left
the guy followed me uh the car was built
but I was still tuning it okay
and the guy he it had all the right
parts but it never ran right at the
track and he would smoke the clutch
every time he went out and I was like I
don't know what you're doing wrong you
know I'm not there at the track with you
so a race came about and he was like
will you drive it at this at this event
I'm like sure you know I've never driven
anything that fast yeah yeah so we ended
up winning that event the car went 10-1
which was a a front wheeel drive record
in Texas at the time for a street car
what you know you know what year that
was just curious that would have been
2006 10 was pretty much like yeah fast
and so he's like I want you to race it
for the rest of the season and I was
like all right but if I'm going to do
that we got to do more to it I was like
I'll do I'll cover all the labor you pay
for the parts we're going to make it
faster yeah and so we did uh we won the
NHRA sport compact uh sport front-wheel
drive uh West Coast Division the first
year we raced it mhm um and then in 2008
at the outlaw race uh broke into the
eights and that was first frontel Drive
street car in the eights went uh 89 at I
think 161 a little bit after that you
know he was like all right you know this
has been fun but all he's doing is
putting money out he's not he's not
driving or anything right right and so
he's like you know do you want to buy
the car and I was like yeah I'll buy the
car and so bought it kept it going I
think I when I got rid of it it had gone
8:30 at like1 189 or something so I sold
that because the GTR stuff came about so
in 2010 I bought a GTR I I literally
zero intention of of working on them or
modifying that one just personal just
you run just personal I love the car
they were I found a used one for 65
Grand I was like it's I can finally
afford this I'm going to buy it bought
it this is when the Tex Texas mile stuff
was still happening a lot okay and um I
had a customer that uh had an entry for
the mile and his car wasn't going to be
ready he's like if you want to ride your
GTR you can have my entry and so I was
like all right well if I'm going to do
that I want to at least do some mods to
so that then that started ethanol full
Bolton stuff built exhaust for it uh I
think it went 183 at the at the mile it
snowballed from there so after that
we're going to races and I'm bringing my
GTR out there that I've done some you
know some basic stuff too but I'm racing
the Integra and everybody's coming over
asking questions about the GTR they like
oh can you work on these and I'm like
yeah I mean that's a it's a much better
Market you know
business-wise and so uh for about a year
we still kind of did both and then we
went exclusive GTR for 11 years and then
we just got into the V10 stuff a few
years ago so um I didn't ask you this
before but what does T1 stand
for so when I worked at jotech okay and
um the forums were a thing that I didn't
even know about it was still pretty new
um Honda was a popular form back then
yeah we built a car for this kid and um
it ended up dropping a valve and
destroyed the engine and he got on hach
and was talking all kinds of [ __ ] and
somebody told me about it so I go in
there and I'm reading it and we know
what H he miss shifted the car the
people that were with him told told us
what happened he miss shifted the car
over revved it dropped a valve and so
I'm like I got to get on there and
defend us and so I make a screen name
and I'm not creative when it comes to
name so I'm like Tony won and
so that was my intro to Honda tech and I
I ended up uh being on there a lot and
had a lot of input and so when it came
time to start T1 I also couldn't think
of a a creative name so it needed to be
something that was visible from the
stands on the side of a race car mhm it
needed to be something that you didn't
hate to say every time you answer the
phone yeah and um somebody suggested T1
and I was like I think that's it it like
it and then uh is race development is
just like a is that like a a slogan or
that's part of the name that's part of
it's T1 race development technically as
Times Gone on we've kind of got I mean
you know initially nobody knew what it
was at all right in my industry for the
most part people know what T1 is and
we've just cleaned it up a little bit
and just have the T1 part you know
what's funny about that is a lot of
people usually get their names from Xbox
video games or like any type of username
that they have and they kind of they
stick with it and run with it it's like
your your very early email addresses
where you're like nobody's ever going to
see this right and then eventually you
get older and they're like what's your
email address you're like I've had I've
had some weird AOL ones yeah back in the
day um fortunately yeah but luckily my
my last name is toque so I don't have
any fancy username or anything like that
but it's pretty cool so before before we
get into GTR stuff you were on pinks yep
right what year was that oh God I think
that was before T1 or right around that
time so mid 2000s yeah so you were you
were the driver in in that episode with
uh with Dave yeah full race full race
built the car and Jeff was like hey do
you want to come drive this say I'm like
sure so and that was a single cam what
made you guys want to do a single cam
well the fact that we might be giving it
away and nobody wanted to put any money
into it so it was cheap cuz I watched I
was like wait why would they go with a
single cam turbo like maybe you guys had
some type of trick you guys were doing
with that but no it did it did move
right yeah no it ran good and and
honestly there was something wrong like
they wouldn't let us work on the car in
between rounds and there was like a
major the first pass it ran good the
second pass like there was no power and
I'm telling I'm telling the guys I'm
like something's wrong yeah and other
team's like yeah [ __ ] they're
sandbagging and I'm like I don't know
what to do I mean I'm doing everything I
can but there's no power there and so it
turned out it had a torn coupler
[ __ ] after that the guys that got it
told us that oh so you didn't find out
on the episode you found out after when
they got the car and they actually so
you actually had to give the cars to the
that was that's like actual thing I've
always wondered that so uh yesterday uh
Dave Gibson from motch was here he's uh
business development for motch USA yeah
so Dave Gibson was the other guy it was
him he had a shop he had a shop doing
rotaries and it was him and his partner
that took that car that's so funny that
is crazy so where's that car now you
know where it's at right they sold it as
soon as they got it sold on eBay or
something wow I I I want to say it made
like 450 horsepower or something and
that was with the turbo setup obviously
right with Boost yeah with Boost and did
you guys spray it all no so that was we
we had a nitrous bottle in there and
that was that the plan was this is going
to be part of the negotiations yeah
right and so I mean it it it went the
way it was supposed to go had the car
not had another problem yeah cuz I I
noticed at the end of the episode when
when obviously they won that was one of
the tactics you guys used and it was
pretty smart but uh yeah shout out to
Dave Dave was a negotiator on that one
right and he was pretty quiet he he's
kind of like it seemed like the team was
doing more negotiating than he was yeah
so it was uh Jeff Evans uh Dave me EV
yeah Jeff Evans was there like the tuner
yeah he was on there yep no way as as
you know just part of our team he tuned
my S2000 back I didn't even know he was
on there yeah I got to watch that back
now I didn't even know that that's crazy
so you were done with Hondas after that
right pretty much when you when you went
to GTRs uh yeah so for about about a
year so let's say 2010 11-ish we were
still doing some Honda stuff right um
but as the GTR work kept coming in it's
like you know I I've only got so many
lifts and so many people right yeah and
if I can't take in a GTR job because
we're doing exhaust on a Civic or
something it's it doesn't make sense
there was enough GTR work that it make
sense so we switched over exclusively to
the GTR stuff how do you feel about I'm
just curious to know since you don't you
know work on Hondas anymore but like how
do you feel about how far they've
Advanced now going into like Savin Ola
drive it's it's awesome I mean I love
seeing the progression I still know
everybody that's involved and is still
in contact um but yeah I I I love that
they're still doing it the all wheeel
Drive thing has been huge cuz it's like
you know okay so with the GTRs after
this long of racing these things you
know at this level like there I don't
really have any knobs to turn left you
know like I I'm trying to get hundreds
and uh that's kind of where the front
wheeel drive stuff had gotten and now
it's all of a sudden like half second
difference yeah and and and with room to
grow so it it's been exciting watch do
you ever get the itch to get back into
it at all no no not at all you just want
to buy like something you know little
personal project well no because if I
did it I would want to go all the way uh
right and I've already got enough
problems yeah the Integra though the
DC I sold that to a friend and uh he
raced it for a while and then Brandon my
engine builder mhm had an Integra that
he built and the guy that I sold it to
was was kind of done racing it but
wanted to make sure it went somewhere
where it was yeah Tak care of you know
Brandon Brandon followed me around races
before he worked for me you know and he
was like you know and so when he finally
started working for me it was like this
dream come true and he's been with me
probably 10 more than 10 years now wow
and Joe said hey Brandon why don't we
trade cars cuz Brandon integro is pretty
similar as far as like chassis goes yeah
he's like why don't we trade cars and
you've got the old T1 car and so Brandon
has it and he's still racing it and
working on it what so it's back in the
family that's dope that is dope so now
you have uh you have Terren too like you
talk about Terence man he's a guy he's
the driver for these fast cars huh some
of them yeah so how did how did that how
did that even happen how did he Terence
grew up driving he used to race dirt
track stuff uh when I met Terrence he
had an EVO with a dog box that he drove
like from here to Arkansas or something
to drag race and then drove back Ian it
was like a gutted Evo with a dog box but
Terence is Terrence is a racer I mean
he's all about it he's kind of like
Fearless sometimes I wonder like if he
ever gets nervous but like dude he just
goes yeah it's crazy yeah so 2K 23
that's when uh Billy's car went out and
went uh uh what It Go 234 maybe at that
one and um you know that was was a big
deal in our industry I don't think it
really like people that are actually
building GTRs I don't think it opened
anybody's eyes as far as you know oh now
we know who T1 is but that thing went so
viral among the whole automotive
industry yeah that I think a lot of
people were like oh [ __ ] who who are
these guys yeah
um I've had a a few requests for quotes
on what it would cost to duplicate Billy
car because other people want to do the
same uh nobody's followed through but
what are the quotes what do you what
does that even cost it's uh it's a
little over 400
400,000 yeah for a
35 Plus maybe 3500 uhep G no sub 35 I
mean God there's so many little things
you got to do to the car to get it to
that point now is that 400,000 all in
one shot or that's just like blowups and
transmissions and well that would be
allinone shot to build a car from from
scratch Nobody Does that I mean you know
that car has been through a bunch of
phases just like all the rest of these
have yeah you know now with where the
platform is there's a potential to start
from a stock car and go to that right
you save a lot of money versus having
done it but you also don't get those
years of racing and learning and all
that so like Billy carar and this car
have well over a million dollars in them
over time right uh George actually this
car was one of the very first GTRs in
the US and he started modifying it
immediately so so this car when I go
through uh my motch logs the way the
motch log software categorizes things
yeah it goes um customer name year month
and then logs and when I go to Georgia
there's a lot of
years more than any more than anybody
else for a single car yeah [ __ ] it's
$400,000 to have the world's fastest GTR
yep which is a lot less money than what
the second place Lamborghini costs
guarantee that it's a lot less yeah so
Lamborghini is probably what you think
double uh By the time they're making you
know over 3,000 horsepower
they're their their bills are a lot more
than 400,000 do you have any 3,000 horsepower
horsepower
or no there's I mean underground's done
some half mile stuff and you know the
yellow stto I think is it's up there in
that ballpark say maybe three three or
four years ago uh the DCT was a
significant limiting factor because of
the clutch right right and Dodson has
come out with more and more and more and
more and at this point the DCT versus
the dogbox is uh it's not a necessity if
you want to make 3,000 okay but the like
the yellow Huracan has a a sequential
gearbox yeah that's only at that time
that was the only option to hold the
torque so in 2010 did you have customers
already or you just had your personal
car and then you kind of person get some
customers with with the GTR um going to
races and driving my GTR to the races
and parking it next to the race car that
we were racing yeah but yeah people came
and you know they they were still new
and so you didn't see them all that
often and so when you do it's like oh
[ __ ] you know look at that yeah um and I
mean it it it went from full boltons and
then we did uh Turbo upgrade uh stock
motor made like 750 or something like
that um and then eventually built the
motor and the trans and you know how do
you feel about like people or shop
owners when they kind of like I guess
use their customer cars to kind of
Advance a platform as opposed to like
personal cars well the end results
always the same right okay I mean you're
learning and so you're going to learn
and I've never I've never I've always
been the guy that's learning on my car
and figuring out how we're going to do
it in the end I can provide somebody
with a reliable package that way
sometimes you know things get like this
car you know it ended up being a
development car because look at some
point if you want to be the fastest in
the world you're going to be a
development car right but if you decide
hey I want to get into this market and
I've got this customer with a car I'm
going to use that to to get into the
market yeah it never ends well the
customer always gets burned in what
sense like well you know it's whether
they do like hey you know let let us
turbo your car right we we'll give you a
break on the labor or something they
don't know what they're doing and so the
car the C never performs like it's
supposed to hopefully it hopefully it
doesn't break and it just doesn't
perform well and maybe somebody else can
fix it later yeah yeah but that's almost
always how that story goes cuz I feel
like a lot of a lot of shops usually
have that situation where they have a
customer that comes in they have a lot
of money to spend and that car actually
ends up being the face of that shop yeah
a lot of times it's they they
overpromise they get the job and then
you know it's like okay well we're in
this deep right now the motor blew up so
I mean I guess we're going to build a
motor now and so it snowballs into okay
this is the so and so shops race car
that they don't own right so you
recommend personal obviously if you if
you really want to do it right and you
want to do your customers right and it's
not just a project for you like okay I
want to get into this market right
whether it's GTR B1 whatever uh as soon
as I decided didn't even decide to get
into the R8 Market I bought an R8 so I
could learn the motch for it because as
motch dealer and tuner I need to be able
to support what I'm what I'm selling and
so I bought an R8 and that's been
everything that we've done that's been
new or or more of an advancement was
done to that car first okay and then
some of it works better than others at
the end of the day I know what to sell
to the next customer that it is going to
work and you've always had that
mentality back then too even from the
Honda days to from the Honda days my car
you know back when I I had a motch on
the car and people were like oh my God I
can't believe you spent that much on an
ECU I a tilt and carbon clutch you know
it's like I want to do it right I know
what's out there I know I know the way
to advance this and you know now that's
all standard stuff right right but I
I've always wanted to to do more than
than what's out there yeah right right
so with the GTR um I know there was some
um things to overcome when it comes to
like even the transmission on these cars
right so when did you start like
tinkering with the car a little bit more
to kind of I guess kind of push through
that one of the one of the first GTR
engines we built uh we sleeved it
because coming from the Honda World you
got to S right and we took this thing
apart and it's like there's not even a
steel liner like it's just allum I'm
there's no way this is going to work
right and so we sleeved it block cracked
at 12200 horsepower and we're like hm
all right so we ended up breaking one or
two more before we were like all right
so we don't actually know when the
factory liner fails let's let's take a
step back and let's find out and to date
we've made over 2500 horsepower on
Factory liners multiple times I've had
one block break that wasn't that wasn't
sleeved yeah so learned I learned a lot
from that and in
that my Approach on the V10 stuff was
completely different instead of buying
all the aftermarket parts you can get MH
let's let's buy the least amount of
aftermarket parts we can get and find
out what's going to break next because
the the OE Engineers are a lot smarter
than people give them credit for they're
a lot smarter than most of the
aftermarket for sure I mean usually
that's pretty much where like
aftermarket companies base their
products off of like the OEM
applications basically so usually most
of the time I feel like it's it's just
good enough you know you know in in a
situation like like with rods um you
know cost and weight are big factors if
the OE Rod is strong enough for the O OE
power and RPM there's no reason for them
to make anything better right but like
oiling systems are very well thought out
uh cooling systems uh crankshafts are
usually usually pretty beefy um so and
and like cast Pistons you know that
those are going to be a weak link we can
make it better valve springs are going
to be good for the RPM limit that the
stock motor runs if you to go more than
that you're probably going to have to
beef those up MH um cams you know that
the factory cams are going to be plenty
strong but if you change the goals
you're probably going to want bigger
cams so there's some things that are
that are standard across basically any
platform platform right but you know
going in and uh changing the harmonic
damper you know upgrading the crankshaft
because it's aftermarket it's going to
be better maybe it is maybe it's not and
what about the
transmission uh the transmission side
similar deal you know it's for the most
part they don't fail at stock power
levels early on when the when the GTR
came out when they had lc1 right when
those would launch it would rev to 4,500
and just dump the clutch so wheel tire
hop and and that broke [ __ ] so then they
took like 10 steps back and lc2 would
leave at like 2200 RPM just really soft
and it slowed the car down a lot yeah
and so they you know it's a the
transmission computer is the exact same
computer as the engine computer there's
the same amount of wires same everything
like there's a lot of programming
involved in a DCT trans and how the
clutch comes in is it it's all
programming yeah and so you can make an
09 launch like a 2023 just with the
programming stuff yeah so the the launch
on these things um it's all programming
as the the newer and newer cars came out
they continue to improve that and so you
know since the engine and trans really
hasn't changed since they released it uh
that was kind of a a thing that was
helpful for them to keep the performance
figures improving every year right right
like oh the 17's faster than the 15 but
it's it's the same thing they just get
the launch a little bit better yeah uh
and you know when you when we look at
the uh the OE file like with uh eutc or
something MH you know there's you can
see a lot of tables in there some are
more defined than others but there's a
lot stuff going on in there there's
actually a motch standalone for the TCM
oh really motch started developing this
uh shortly after the GTR came out
because it wasn't that great stock and
so like we can make our own TCM and make
it better over the course of that
development which was it's a long
development process the stock stuff kept
getting better and better and eventually
they're like this doesn't make sense
anymore so the project got sheld oh so I
got it resurrected a few years ago and I
have the I have it uh it's not it's not
ready yet it's not all the way right but
trying to get development time allotted
for it at motch uh in Australia and that
that it will be a product in time but I
got to see you know from a motch side
where everything's fully defined and
learn a lot more about how the DCT works
right right and um there's a lot to it
it's like everything's the way it should
be with coefficient of fr
of the discs and everything M and when
when we put an aftermarket clutch in
there with you know five more clutch
plates than stock like when you drive a
GTR with a fully built trans I mean it's
it's not bad when you drive a V10 with a
fully built trans it's way better it's a
much newer transmission the programming
is a lot better yeah okay so you know in
in terms of DCT these things are old you
know I mean the car came out in 2008 in
Japan right which means they probably
started working on the trans in 2005 or
something yeah so I mean it's it's
20-year-old transmission at this point
right right so why are you resurrecting
it now because it you pretty much are
because these cars will benefit from it
do you feel like the um the GTR Market
is kind of dying though right now it's
slowing down for sure now here's
something that will appeal to a lot of
people right now racing uh one of these
cars on a pro Tre
it's you realistically you can't do it
there is a bump feature in motch and it
does work but but it's kind of like this
deal the buttons you got to hit the
certain you have to you have to fully
stage while you're holding one button
and then you got to let up off the brake
and let it creep and hit the brake and
then let off the button and then let off
the brake and still cut a light right
I'm not that good but there is the
opportunity to add a clutch pedal with a
standalone trans and you could basically
have your clutch pedal be your launch so
you can stage it like a normal manual
car right um and still have computer
control of how the clutch comes in so
you could kind of make this thing a Emanuel
Emanuel
DCT and I think that would appeal to a
lot of people that want to race this

best you still have the delay but you
just have easier times well so the delay
with the factory TCM is not constant ah
okay so if somebody tries to burn you
down on the tree if you're in launch for
more than like three or four seconds
yeah um the first time this happened to
me I freaked out you let off the break
and it's literally half a second before
anything happens I let off The Brak and
I look down I'm like what's and it takes
off so you've got I mean a half second
delay is hard to make up on the tree
yeah and then it brings the clutch in
completely different but it's actually
it brings the clutch in real smooth so
the car launch is good yeah you just you
your reaction time's terrible so it's
it's not constant it's really hard to
get the the perfect amount of control
over the clutch with stock TCM so we'll
have we'll be able to 60 foot better be
able to it more consistently yeah and
hopefully whatever delay is there will
at least be consistent where it's not
with Factory TCM I personally don't even
understand why the why there's a delay
can you explain why it's a delay with
DCT Transmissions I don't know how much
of it's in programming but forget about
that side uh you've got electronics and
hydraulics happening right okay so RPM's
up it gets the signal okay we want to
launch now it has to go from the you
know two or three bar of clutch pressure
that it was on the line yeah and bring
in that so you've got solenoids opening
you got fluids moving moving Parts I
don't know yeah take the electronic side
out I don't know how how quick the delay
can can be but I'm sure it can be
quicker than what it is stock okay but
there is going to be a mechanical delay
you know normally you've got um you've
got a lever on a clutch right and that
moves fast right so we've got we've got
fluid and solenoids and all kinds of
stuff in the works so in the in the mix
so now with the motch advancement right
is that going to make any change in that
at all uh I I hope
so I didn't try and launch it uh with
when I had it on my development car um
it turns out the transmission on these
uh the 15 and up the computer you know
we all know that the the ROM's a
different size and it's slightly
different M the frequency that the uh
solenoids and the Val body work are
different and if you put a 15 trans and
say a 12 it won't work
at all
but I don't know what it's looking at to
know that it's not right the development
was done on an older trans uh with motch
and I I put it in a 15 Nismo that I had
and so when we're digging into the data
he was like this is the it's running the
solenoids at a different frequency on
this one and we're like oh okay so that
that now I know what the difference is
yeah so in the motag it'll be switchable
so you could put on either one um but
because that wasn't right uh I didn't do
a ton of testing with it in in driving
around it was fine the shifts the shift
crossovers weren't weren't really right
M you know a lot of people don't realize
when when you the the shift of a DCT
trans isn't you know Fork going in and
clutch coming out like we're used to
because it's in both gears already so
the shift is just the hydraulic pressure
Crossing and so that's what we call a
crossover point if you get the crossover
too high you're kind of in two gears at
once and you'll feel it bind and if you
get it too low the RPM will flare before
it comes back down so you want to
usually on these cars like a good
crossover is about eight bar pressure
and again that's something that you know
we don't really have that much control
over that with the stock uh TCM but we
will be able to have control over that
with the Standalone so there's there's
room to improve for sure and who's going
to be running this this is like for some
of these cars or this is like for I mean
it it'll start on on our big drag cars
and I'll I'll continue refining it but
um I could see it ending up on any drive
car that we build right right you know
it's like with what's in these for a
seven grand for a standalone TCM um one
you don't have the random faults that
you get with a TCM when it gets pissed
off will actually have full data for
everything and high frequency logging
you only get about 20 HZ out of the
factory TCM so like when you're look at
those clutch crossovers these are things
that are happening super fast and a
sample rate of 20 HZ doesn't really give
you the full picture where you know 100
or 1,000 HS really you can see
everything you can see everything on Dat
that's interesting so aside from the
transmission um are there any other
limitations that you've kind of faced
right now because obviously you know
that's that's the biggest one but yeah
uh with the transmission stuff if we
could if we could tweak the gear ratios
I think there's a lot to be had there
okay unfortunately making custom gear
sets with one-off ratios uh to test it's
an it's an expensive thing and again we
don't know what what you might run into
with the the uh TCM mhm with the stock
one if it gets it's going to get pissed
off about something not being right yeah
um the other issue we run into
so uh you shift from first to second now
the first Fork has to work to get in
third there's only a certain amount of
time that you're in second the faster
the car gets the shorter that time is
and it's a problem with both of these
platforms sometimes that the synchros
don't work quite good enough and you're
ready for it to shift but the Fork's not
in yet and so it won't shift it'll just
hang on the reev until the fork gets in
and then it'll allow the shift the uh 23
is bad on the v10s in that regard and
you know it's constant Evolution we're
tweaking things to make them better but
um that's a problem with the DCT a long
time ago uh when eono was racing the GTR
mhm they had a set of dog gears made so
you think about it that eliminates that
problem of the Synchro yeah well the way
a dog gear works is once you shift and
engage the gear there's a back cut on
the dog tooth and so uh if you're
driving a a dog box yeah and you're on
the throttle and there's no cut you're
not going to be able to pull it out of
gear right right soon as you lift you
can you can move it out of gear well
because both gears aren't driven at at
the same time there were there was
issues with the fork popping out cuz
it's just rattling around in there cuz
it's not loaded against that dog ring so
that didn't
work look at like um the 275 radial rear
wheel drive cars with automatic trans
you know low 10 11 60 FTS easy all day
long it's really hard to get one of
these to do that we are all-wheel drive
we've got slicks and uh the the between
the gear ratio and the way the amount of
clutch control we have
like for the car not to bog when you
launch one of two things has to happen
the clutch has to slip or the tire has
to spin and so depending on how much
grip you have and how much control you
have over the clutch sometimes you don't
know which one of those is going to
happen yeah but and if neither of those
happen then it bogs right right with an
automatic trans with a torque converter
that's it's that's never going to happen
it's always going to leave really nice
once you get it dialed in yeah so it's
still I mean it's if you said Okay I
want to build a drag car what's the best
trans to use it's not this okay it's not
it's definitely
not and they're expensive and you know
the fact that
it even does what it what it's doing you
know 3,000 plus wheel horsepower drag
race launches the fact that a a I say a
stock gearbox all the parts are upgraded
but it's still a factory designed piece
the fact that it even does that is
impressive but you know you could go a
season on a
th400 with a car this fast you're not
going to get a season on one gearbox so
at that horsepower what are you guys
pushing for like boost wise 3,000 uh
about 90 lbs I think Billy said they Doo
you guys I on 70 a little bit over 70 20
28 or 2900 and on full kilo I mean it's
seen 85 to 90 that's insane dude uh I
don't normally you know the reality is
the engine doesn't get a lot of a lot of
hits at those power numbers either so I
don't want to waste them on the dyno
right right you know the I've got the
tuneup sorted right so when whenever one
of these cars gets a refresh put on the
dyno I do the engine brakin uh change
the oil check the filter make sure
everything's happy M I'll do like a
wastegate pull and then maybe like a 50b
pull and just if those two points are
where they're supposed to be I don't do
any more PS on the dyo like yeah I
they're already sorted so I don't need
to do that right right right so has
there been any other complications on
the tuning side with these at all
throughout the years a lot of people
well some people try to push further
than um where I think they should on a
certain fuel right so maybe you're
trying to get that the pump gas record
or you know you want to make 2600
horsepower and ethanol and it's like I
don't think it's a good idea at the end
of the day the the the fuel and its
resistance to detonation is your
insurance and so I always air on the
side of caution as far as that goes so
uh I've been running methanol on the
GTRs uh since I made 2200 and 2015 so
all of our big stuff is on methanol and
that goes along I mean it makes power
you know there's a reason race cars run
methanol yeah but uh it makes power and
it's safe and it
it say you had a 3.8 L engine on
methanol and a 4.3 on gas okay the spool
is going to be about the same the
methanol helps the spool that much and
as the turbos get really big that
becomes important uh to be able to get
them to
launch okay back to uh when we leave the
line we either have to slip the clutch
or spin the tire right say we're leaving
at 3,000 RPM and the car won't bog there
it's got really small really responsive
turbos right 3,000 RPM in first gear
might be 15 mph so we only got this
distance that we have to work out you
know we a little bit of slip whether
it's Tire or clutch not a big deal say
the car has really big turbos it's small
motor if it falls below 7 Grand it's
going to bog now you've got You' got a
lot of distance to deal with and you've
either got to spin the tire a lot or you
got to have a lot of clutch slip to get
out that far and let it hook before so
it doesn't bog and uh that's when I left
the Honda stuff that's that's where that
was too you know the the bigger the
turbo the smaller the engine if you've
got a torque converter it's not a it's
not a problem as long as converter size
right if you've got a proper slipper
clutch not a problem if you got a clutch
that you know isn't really designed to
do what you're trying to do with it and
you got you make have to make it do
something like that it gets hard to
launch consistently wow so now with the
methanol in play does that help because
you said it kind of it helps a lot with
when you're making these kind this kind
of horsepower right so does that have
any like thing to do with cooling
Properties or anything like that yeah
that that's one of the bonuses so um it
cools the air a lot you'll see a lot of
people run methanol with no intercooler
and at at lower boost levels um you can
do it relatively safely you're still
losing power if you don't have an
intercooler but a proper intercooler
system it's big and bulky and complex
and so sometimes it's like I'm willing
to take the hit you know power-wise
right but when you're running 90 PBS of
boost your Air temps are through the
roof and if you don't intercool that
it's not going to last so that's why
you'll see all of our stuff is
intercooled so people who were trying to
break the records you said like uh pump
gas and and and E85 um you're saying
like that's pretty much not it's not
really a good goal to go for I mean I
have no interested you know everybody
wants their their micro record of some
sort but that one it's like you know I
mean especially the pump gas record it's
so silly like who knows what's in the
tank oh 100% you got a bunch of [ __ ]
flowing around in there you don't know
what the hell it's like the you know
I've got the the 52 millimeter turbo
record and it's a street car and
nobody's ever going to measure anything
yeah like
there are you know some micro records
that that might make you know in the
classes we're doing it's 68 millimet and
um obviously overall records but uh the
micro records go far and then what about
E85 like what have you pushed this these
cars to on 85 uh the highest I've g85
has been about 2250 2250 and that's
that's with the race ethanol so um it
could still be 85 to 90% but at least we
know the other 10 or 15% is a good race
fuel rather than who knows and that's
strictly so we use either 1 r or ignite
or VP has a also has a roughly 85 to 90%
ethanol blend actually uh ethanol mixed
with a little bit of race gas has a
higher knock resistance than 100%
ethanol so that's why these these race
plans tend to work pretty good now the
problem is the the computer doesn't know
it doesn't have any way of knowing
octane we do have a flex fuel sensor we
can see ethanol content yeah but say
you've got say it reads 80%
and it's uh it's E100 cut with you know
c16 or something to 80% that's going to
be a really really good fuel if you've
got 80% from a pump somewhere and you're
trying to make 2200 I mean maybe it
works I don't want to try it sketch and
maybe it works one tank and not the next
you know it's just it's a consistent and
so when I set up tune stuff you know if
it's a car that's going to make more
than I'm comfortable with on on pump gas
you're basically not really GNA see
anything over 85 from a pump okay so
it's usually going to be that or lower
right and so you know I'll have a big
step in the in the fuel composition
torque and boost stuff where if it's
like 88 or higher I know that it's
probably got good fuel and so it's not
that that 3% makes a difference it's
that I know that this is a a good
ethanol versus an unknown right and you
know same
e50 if you're 50% ethanol and 50% race
Gast that's really really good if it's
e50 from a pump that's not even close
and so sometimes you get people that
that need to cut that direction because
they don't have uh enough fuel Vol
volume in the fuel system right pumps
can't keep up injectors can't keep up if
you go to e50 you don't need quite as
much fuel so I've done putting cars that
way I'm like hey you can't race this
thing on pump ethanol because it's got
all the power at e50 right so for those
guys out there whether they have a GTR
or any kind of platform um what do you
recommend to them in terms of like
finding a good gas station uh to find
good fuel because most people will pull
up to a pump have a sensor in their car
and kind of read or close to like e70 or
something like if it's really good um so
is there any like recommendations or any
tips for that it varies by uh location
and it's very um like any gas it's like
region dependent okay right so when in
colder regions they have to go to a
lower blend so that the cars start well
because the higher the ethanol content
the the fuel doesn't want to vaporize
when you try to start it got and so you
know these people with stock Flex Fuel
cars they want they expect the car to
start and run the same all the time so
you'll see in the colder months in those
areas you know they might have e50 E60
something like that which is common in
New York yeah yep um in the in the
warmer areas for the most part it stays
fairly High mhm but no I haven't seen uh
I don't have it anywhere around here and
I don't have any street cars that run on
ethanol personally like where I'm you
know driving to a pump yeah um we
usually use race stuff we have a couple
drums that we take to the local station
that has it but it's still you know 20
miles away so we'll go fill up drums so
we have it here if I've Got a Car on the
dyno or something and I need some um but
no I don't I don't know about you know
one station being better than another I
mean you know most of the stuff we're
doing so so GTR for example um 1,600 or
so is usually about as far as I want to
go on pump ethanol and then past that I
wanted to have you know EOL now uh if we
do a build say it's going to make 1800
I'm going to tune it on Race ethanol I
don't need to tune it on every blend of
ethanol and find the knock limit on
everyone and get all that stuff dialed
in it's going to be it's fast as here
yeah I know what I need to do to make it
safe as the ethanol blend goes down but
you know that's a it's a it's a time
thing right and changing the ethanol
Blends and and retting
constantly uh it takes a lot Dam Dam so
you seem to know so much about the fuel
stuff right cuz you have injector
Dynamics as a company right so how did
you kind of get into that so back in the
Integra days uh I started out with the m
M4 Motech so four injectors this was the
old gold box dos based I mean that old
yeah uh once I got the car I switched it
over to an m800 and went to eight
injectors and you know back in the day
we had to run the the Bosch 160lb
injector it was old uh CG injector it
did the job but it idled horribly on
anything remotely small and so going to
eight injectors you can get a nice idle
it drives but everything's better so I
4600s um at the time uh I used RC
injectors okay they were the best
thousand CC injector that I knew of um I
put them in there's something called the
injector offset uh and that m U they
call the battery comp and so that's
basically the delay from the signal to
fuel actually moving and so for fuel
calculations to work right it's
important that that value is correct it
changes with battery voltage and fuel
pressure so I called RC and I'm like hey
I've got this this part number injector
I need the the injector offset and they
were like what what what what computer
you using and I told him I was using
motch like now you need to call motch
and I was like motch call me told me to
call you it's your injector you know
they don't have the data on your
injector and they're like well we don't
have it and so I called motch back and I
was like you know what do you guys
suggest and Simon Simon who ran uh MCH
USA said there's this guy Paul yaw that
that basically ran into this same
frustration and built test equipment to
be able to offer this service you can
send them the injectors do a full
characterization you get them back with
all the data you need as well as flow
results and everything so I did that I
sent him one set of those and uh he he
calls me and he was like you know I'll
do these for you he goes I've got a
th000 cc injector that's high impedance
that's way better than these things and
I'm like this is back in the day where
we're doing a lot of stock ECU stuff
with hondata mhm uh the factory
injectors are low impedance and have a
resistor box which is it's a real
halfast way to control a low impedance
injector but it's what we did and uh I
didn't know of anything bigger than RC's
750 that was high impedance and so I'm
like wait you've got a th000 C High
impedance injector that's better than
this he's like yeah so he sends me info
on him I'm like send me a set so I ended
up putting him in my race car yeah and
everything seemed better but you've got
a race car with big cams I mean it's
already IDL and like crazy like it
wasn't super clear yet so I was like
send me another set I put him in a stock
car and I couldn't believe it I mean the
steady which never happens with anything
else yeah and so I was like holy [ __ ]
these these things actually work and so
I called him back and I was like how
many of these do you think you can get
and he's like I don't know let me call
and see so he was it was an OE Ford
injector that he was modifying so he
calls Ford dealership and he's like you
know he's like I think I can get a
couple hundred I was like send me a
couple hundred and so I got those and I
started putting them in you know being a
tuner I knew all the tuners yeah so I
started putting them in the hands of the
tuners cuz at the end of the day if if
you buy some and you know put them in
your car and somebody Tunes it okay yeah
the car drives good but you didn't
really know what it took to get there
right and so tuners like whoa can you
get more of these right it's like I'm
I'm the drug dealer now and so um that
went for a while I just called it a BOS
thousand CC injector because injector
Dynamics wasn't a thing right and you
know Paul's the engineer that wants to
sit in his room and and do the math and
do and not talk to people yeah and So
eventually people started figuring out
where they were coming from and get in
contact with him and he called me one
day he's like look he goes I've been
doing he goes I've been in these for a
few years and it never went anywhere
yeah all a sudden you get involved and
now everybody wants these things he's
like I don't want to deal with these
people how about I'll do I'll do my part
you do your part I'll send everything to
you you handle all the sales
distribution tech support he knew I
could support the product technically MH
um and I was like yeah that sounds like
a deal and he's like I think we should
there should be a brand so we came up
with injector Dynamics and that was born
in um I think it was around
2007 and uh it's a handshake agreement
between him and I still to this day so
does he have what's his involvement now
with the with the businesses since it's
grown so much like is he still he still
handles all the development well okay so
this started out as uh modifying
injectors right and so we had one part
number they would that would started
like 500 CC we'd modify it it would make
a th000 mhm uh it was 48 mm long some of
the newer GM applications needed a
shorter body injector right so we found
another one that was a shorter body
injector that would be 850 once it was
modified so we came out with the 850 now
this is back in the day when people
still heard thousand CC injector went my
car won't run on those you know there's
no way that would work right so then we
did uh a 725 just for those people that
were scared of the nothing nothing
needed the 725 the Thousand would work
in it but it was the same length it was
just to to you know get people over the
hump and learn that these these will
work and so um we did that for a lot of
years and eventually got a really good
relationship with BOS Motorsport who was
supplying us with the the core injectors
right and eventually got to the point
where Bosch was interested in and making
custom injectors for us rather than us
having to modify these
injectors and so the ID 1300 was the
first one that that resulted from that
partnership uh today everything is
custom made for us by BOS we we don't
modify anything anymore so we still work
on them uh everything comes in from
Bosch it runs through a Breakin process
we've got a huge test bench that runs 48
injectors at a time at like 100 PSI and
a high frequency for about half an hour
to you think about it it's a it's a uh a
ball and seat valve yeah that you know
eventually that thing as it's new and it
you have a bunch of pulses eventually
things are going to move a little bit I
me we're talking about valve lift and
microns I mean yeah a little bit makes a
difference so we would find that
injectors were tested and they'd be
perfectly matched and then they'd run
for a little while and theyd come back
and there would be more of a spread than
we were comfortable with that wasn't
from contamination and so we started
doing the break-in process realizing
that that that was helping that problem
so they go through a break-in process
they go through the laser etching
process and then they go through the
flow testing process and then they're
all matched and then they come here as
match sets and then we handle you know
application specific stuff whether it
needs a tops uh bottoms whatever
connectors it needs so we had all that
so all these other companies um that
have injectors are they basically doing
what you guys started doing before they
moved up before you guys obviously had
Bosch doing all the modifications for
you y okay so Bosch isn't modifying them
they're building them to our spec oh
they so they're building them right so
they're actually doing the the 1000s and
the 1300s run on a production line at
Bosch now the 1700s their the volume is
still low so Bosch has what they call a
sample shop so if uh Bosch Motorsport
decides uh okay we want to work with you
on this custom part the sample shop
handles that and they're they're
handbuilt and
assembled once that's all finalized if
the volume's there and it can run on a
production line then they do and the
price can come down significantly yeah
but the volume's not there for the 1700
um and so we had the 725 the 850 and the
1,000 yeah when we when we switch to the
1050 the current smallest injector
to get the volume required to get it to
run on a production line at Bosch we had
to combine all the sales of all three of
those part numbers so by that time
people weren't scared of the the
Thousand right so we didn't need the 725
so the 1050 is a short body because we
can make the short one longer we just
couldn't make the long one shorter so we
can fit anything with that one injector
now MH so we did the 1050 1300 uh the
1700 is actually unique in that there
are some internal components on the 1700
that are manufactured at Paul's and in
Arizona okay and we send those to Bosch
and they assemble the injector with
these parts which was took a lot you
know at the end of the day Bosch still
has her name on it so it took a lot to
be able to make that happen but with the
valve lift required to get that flow
rate it wasn't usable without these
higher strength magnetic parts inside of
it and so that came about there and then
the 2600 uh is actually made in Germany
because that's a it's different
architecture it's called the ngi 2 and
it's a compressed natural gas injector
so we used to have the
id2000 it's a CG injector it it can work
with liquid fuels but there's a lot of
things you got to be careful about okay
Bosch didn't want anybody using those
with liquid fuels and we're like look
which ones the what we had is the old
id2000 it was 2200cc I was going ask you
about that CG injector everybody else
still sells them um Bosch did not want
those used with liquid fuel okay we're
like give us an give us an alternative
you know I mean it if you need more flow
than the
1700 if they're out there and other
people are selling them like we we have
to offer it yeah and so that was another
I all to release a single part number is
a insane amount of development so the
2600 was born with the goals that Bosch
is going to get the 2000s off the market
off the market yeah except for the
applications they're designed for C so
the 2600 is designed to our spec and
designed to be used with liquid fuel
okay and that's exclusive to us also
okay yeah I was going to ask you about
the 2000s because um a lot of people
were saying you can't run E85 with with
those and they were having issues with
the 2000s so normally it's a it's a
steel ball uh on the end of the injector
okay and so as as it opens the fuel just
flows around the ball that one's
completely different it's got uh it's
got a a flat face valve with a rubber
face on it I'd say rubber it's
technically some kind of chemical but uh
rubber keeps it simple and and so that
rubber seals on on a flat face on the the
the
injector there's fuel that goes both
through the center of it and comes
around it now with the normal ball it
has to open against the fuel
pressure with this one because of the
design of it it doesn't have to open
against fuel pressure so the high
pressure capability is insane the
offset's very low and it can get a lot
more flow than the ev14 architecture can
and so that's why you know we had to do
a lot of work to get a 1700 and it's
like all a sudden you got a 2600 it's
drastically different but yeah the
internal construction is completely
different on that injector now you
mentioned before um that people were scared to run the 1000s right a pretty
scared to run the 1000s right a pretty big I don't want to say misconception it
big I don't want to say misconception it could be but is is that like if you run
could be but is is that like if you run a injector that's too big you can have
a injector that's too big you can have idling issues is that true it is
idling issues is that true it is eventually yeah okay at what point the
eventually yeah okay at what point the the th well it matters what fuel you're
the th well it matters what fuel you're using right because as you run ethanol
using right because as you run ethanol or methanol the fuel volume increases
or methanol the fuel volume increases and so if you were to look at um what we
and so if you were to look at um what we could call like a daph of an ejector
could call like a daph of an ejector right so Flow versus pulse width when it
right so Flow versus pulse width when it gets down on the end at very low pulse
gets down on the end at very low pulse widths the flow starts to get nonlinear
widths the flow starts to get nonlinear and it gets funky okay and so if your
and it gets funky okay and so if your idle fuel requirements are high enough
idle fuel requirements are high enough up you know if you're using 20
up you know if you're using 20 microliters of fuel at idle on a small
microliters of fuel at idle on a small injector you're well into the linear
injector you're well into the linear range so everything's going to work
range so everything's going to work exactly as it should okay so as you get
exactly as it should okay so as you get bigger and bigger and the engine gets
bigger and bigger and the engine gets smaller and smaller and the fuel volume
smaller and smaller and the fuel volume requirements go down uh that gets harder
requirements go down uh that gets harder and harder so like the 1700s on some
and harder so like the 1700s on some cars they won't idle happily at sto um
cars they won't idle happily at sto um the 2600 same deal it's not going to
the 2600 same deal it's not going to idle at at sto but the other thing is by
idle at at sto but the other thing is by the time you you need an injector that
the time you you need an injector that big you probably have bigger cams than
big you probably have bigger cams than stock and it's not even if you had stock
stock and it's not even if you had stock injectors in there it wouldn't idle
injectors in there it wouldn't idle happily at sto right so you've got
happily at sto right so you've got multiple things going on but yeah as it
multiple things going on but yeah as it goes bigger it gets harder and harder
goes bigger it gets harder and harder for to to keep a good Idol and the other
for to to keep a good Idol and the other part you know how well the injectors are
part you know how well the injectors are matched it's easy to match them in the
matched it's easy to match them in the linear range or static flow rate but
linear range or static flow rate but getting a tight match down low is very
getting a tight match down low is very difficult because it's it's not it's not
difficult because it's it's not it's not linear so you've got all this nastiness
linear so you've got all this nastiness going on down there and so when you're
going on down there and so when you're looking at Raw data it's like you know I
looking at Raw data it's like you know I want these four to be the same but
want these four to be the same but nothing nothing jives yeah um Paul
nothing nothing jives yeah um Paul actually like over the last week we're
actually like over the last week we're about to release an ID 1750 to replace a
about to release an ID 1750 to replace a 1700 okay and in all the testing of that
1700 okay and in all the testing of that he found a new process that has worked
he found a new process that has worked really well for significantly better
really well for significantly better matching down low at idol so oh wow
matching down low at idol so oh wow there's a good chance the 1750s will
there's a good chance the 1750s will idle better than the 1700 did only
idle better than the 1700 did only because they're better matched right
because they're better matched right down there now can you can you kind of
down there now can you can you kind of maybe set the injector dead times to got
maybe set the injector dead times to got get a better idle uh the dead time is
get a better idle uh the dead time is what it is it's not a tunable parameter
what it is it's not a tunable parameter okay um you can adjust it but if you
okay um you can adjust it but if you change it from what it's supposed to be
change it from what it's supposed to be it doesn't fix anything so if you were
it doesn't fix anything so if you were to say it idle if you were to just
to say it idle if you were to just change the dead time a little bit yeah
change the dead time a little bit yeah uh it'll get richer or leaner by some
uh it'll get richer or leaner by some amount depending how much you change it
amount depending how much you change it now it's going to throw off the
now it's going to throw off the compensations where say the air temp
compensations where say the air temp wants to make a 5% change in Lambda if
wants to make a 5% change in Lambda if the offset's wrong you don't get five
the offset's wrong you don't get five you might get two you might get eight
you might get two you might get eight might get 20 depending on how far it's
might get 20 depending on how far it's off and so that's why it's important
off and so that's why it's important that the offsets are right now depending
that the offsets are right now depending on which direction you went with that
on which direction you went with that offset it'll either get richer or leaner
offset it'll either get richer or leaner so if that helps the idle then you know
so if that helps the idle then you know which direction you need to go but
which direction you need to go but that's not how you do it you do it by
that's not how you do it you do it by with whether it's your mass airflow
with whether it's your mass airflow curve or your V table you know depending
curve or your V table you know depending on what car it is got you so you can get
on what car it is got you so you can get there one way or another okay okay all
there one way or another okay okay all right I was always curious about that so
right I was always curious about that so now E85 right with these injectors all
now E85 right with these injectors all these injectors that you guys offer
these injectors that you guys offer you're able to run E85 full E85 any type
you're able to run E85 full E85 any type of ethanol right other companies that
of ethanol right other companies that have injectors those are pretty much
have injectors those are pretty much what you guys were using before yeah so
what you guys were using before yeah so what are we still talking about the big
what are we still talking about the big big stuff well I guess overall cuz
big stuff well I guess overall cuz obviously you guys stopped selling the
obviously you guys stopped selling the 2000s but you said there's probably I'm
2000s but you said there's probably I'm sure there's people still using them
sure there's people still using them yeah there's still Lots out there they
yeah there's still Lots out there they were in the same boat that are that we
were in the same boat that are that we were you were right right they need them
were you were right right they need them and they're out there so they're not
and they're out there so they're not going to not sell them so no matter what
going to not sell them so no matter what it's pretty much recommend that you you
it's pretty much recommend that you you don't use 85 with the 2000s across the
don't use 85 with the 2000s across the board whether it's your company or the
board whether it's your company or the the biggest problem with ethanol with
the biggest problem with ethanol with that injector is there there's internal
that injector is there there's internal components that can rust right since
components that can rust right since ethanol will absorb water from the air
ethanol will absorb water from the air uh if it's in a wet environment human
uh if it's in a wet environment human environment uh if they sit mhm they'll
environment uh if they sit mhm they'll rust once they're rusted they're trash
rust once they're rusted they're trash um the other part you know back to the
um the other part you know back to the that flat face R valve yeah uh there are
that flat face R valve yeah uh there are chemical reactions and so they're not
chemical reactions and so they're not compatible with mtbe so uh that was that
compatible with mtbe so uh that was that was an interesting one to learn the
was an interesting one to learn the first car I tuned on
first car I tuned on q16 uh which has uh pretty high mtbe
q16 uh which has uh pretty high mtbe content compared to other G race gases
content compared to other G race gases um it was on a it was on a Civic with an
um it was on a it was on a Civic with an old am with very little data but I was
old am with very little data but I was like this thing doesn't seem right and
like this thing doesn't seem right and the longer I tune it the leaner I kept
the longer I tune it the leaner I kept getting and I'm like what the hell is
getting and I'm like what the hell is going on eventually everything seemed to
going on eventually everything seemed to to normalize and so I'm like all right
to normalize and so I'm like all right so sent the car and uh they kept racing
so sent the car and uh they kept racing it and raced it all year everything was
it and raced it all year everything was fine it only ever saw q16 that valve
fine it only ever saw q16 that valve face swells a little bit and it
face swells a little bit and it stabilizes at some point and so it
stabilizes at some point and so it swelling is the same as reducing valve
swelling is the same as reducing valve lift and so we later did enough testing
lift and so we later did enough testing to find on q16 that injector goes from
to find on q16 that injector goes from about 2200 CC to, 1400cc
about 2200 CC to, 1400cc what what that's we're like oh okay so
what what that's we're like oh okay so let's not use it with q16 VP import uh
let's not use it with q16 VP import uh nitromethane is in good form so there's
nitromethane is in good form so there's there are chemical compatibility issues
there are chemical compatibility issues with that valve your this is all at like
with that valve your this is all at like 40 PSI uh base fuel pressure depends on
40 PSI uh base fuel pressure depends on the car okay so so uh generally speaking
the car okay so so uh generally speaking as fuel pressure goes up fuel pump flow
as fuel pressure goes up fuel pump flow goes down right so say you've got a car
goes down right so say you've got a car that you're your your your fuel pressure
that you're your your your fuel pressure is falling but your duty cycle at you
is falling but your duty cycle at you know 50 50% so you've got enough
know 50 50% so you've got enough injector to lower the fuel pressure and
injector to lower the fuel pressure and just use more injector right well doing
just use more injector right well doing lowering the fuel pressure is going to
lowering the fuel pressure is going to increase the output from the fuel pump
increase the output from the fuel pump so sometimes you you can make something
so sometimes you you can make something work that way yeah now our new brushless
work that way yeah now our new brushless pump has the same output regardless of
pump has the same output regardless of pressure so you know when we say we're
pressure so you know when we say we're our single brushless pump will make
our single brushless pump will make 2,000 horsepower on ethanol period
2,000 horsepower on ethanol period doesn't matter as long as pressure is
doesn't matter as long as pressure is below 150 psi and long as long as
below 150 psi and long as long as voltage is over 8 volts okay so the way
voltage is over 8 volts okay so the way the controller works is it maintains uh
the controller works is it maintains uh a set output regardless of of conditions
a set output regardless of of conditions so normally pressure goes up the pump's
so normally pressure goes up the pump's going to slow down and that's why the
going to slow down and that's why the output goes down so pressure goes up our
output goes down so pressure goes up our controller drives it with More Voltage
controller drives it with More Voltage to maintain the pump speed and that
to maintain the pump speed and that happens all the way to 150 and all the
happens all the way to 150 and all the way down to 8 volts and after that it's
way down to 8 volts and after that it's it's out of what what it can supply as
it's out of what what it can supply as far as voltage to the pump right but but
far as voltage to the pump right but but you know if you were to compare it you
you know if you were to compare it you know at the extremes um it could do five
know at the extremes um it could do five or six times what a single one of those
or six times what a single one of those pumps could do uh on a normal brush
pumps could do uh on a normal brush lless controller right so it's been it's
lless controller right so it's been it's been huge we've actually got uh an old
been huge we've actually got uh an old GTR build here right now that back in
GTR build here right now that back in the day was the lambo killer so it's uh
the day was the lambo killer so it's uh 1,600 horsepower it's got uh three wobo
1,600 horsepower it's got uh three wobo pumps with a four hanger and two voltage
pumps with a four hanger and two voltage boosters so we've got two pumps running
boosters so we've got two pumps running at 18 either 18 21 volts and then a
at 18 either 18 21 volts and then a single one running at battery voltage
single one running at battery voltage and it took all that to make 1,600 back
and it took all that to make 1,600 back in the day and now we can do it with a
in the day and now we can do it with a single controller and a single pump and
single controller and a single pump and all this is happening at so at 40 40 PSI
all this is happening at so at 40 40 PSI uh yeah those cars um when walro first
uh yeah those cars um when walro first came out with their ethanol compatible
came out with their ethanol compatible intank pump mhm it had the uh high
intank pump mhm it had the uh high pressure pop off valve on it was it like
pressure pop off valve on it was it like 90 PSI well any of these cars running
90 PSI well any of these cars running any amount of boost they're going to see
any amount of boost they're going to see that and you'd see the fuel pressure
that and you'd see the fuel pressure would come up and then once that valve
would come up and then once that valve opens it's just like a a little ball and
opens it's just like a a little ball and spring you once it opens pressure would
spring you once it opens pressure would drop and it doesn't immediately close
drop and it doesn't immediately close right so that it eventually closes back
right so that it eventually closes back up and it could come back up and it
up and it could come back up and it you'd see this right so then they came
you'd see this right so then they came out with well first we started modifying
out with well first we started modifying those you could drill in and and press
those you could drill in and and press the the set in to increase the spring
the the set in to increase the spring pressure and so that would change the
pressure and so that would change the pressure that it would pop off at then
pressure that it would pop off at then they made a high pressure version of
they made a high pressure version of that but it's still like uh 115 or 120
that but it's still like uh 115 or 120 PSI and you know if you're running 50 or
PSI and you know if you're running 50 or 60 pounds of boost you're gonna get
60 pounds of boost you're gonna get there yeah right so so now you've got to
there yeah right so so now you've got to stay below that so you've got to make
stay below that so you've got to make sure your injectors are big enough to
sure your injectors are big enough to provide the volume you need at the
provide the volume you need at the pressure you can use right as far as the
pressure you can use right as far as the injector goes if the differential
injector goes if the differential pressure goes up flow goes up period so
pressure goes up flow goes up period so uh being that our our controller and
uh being that our our controller and pump can do uh up to 150 psi now we can
pump can do uh up to 150 psi now we can have situations where we use a smaller
have situations where we use a smaller injector and we can run 70 or 80 psi
injector and we can run 70 or 80 psi base fuel pressure and get a lot of the
base fuel pressure and get a lot of the benefits of a smaller injector with uh
benefits of a smaller injector with uh the higher fuel pressure and you know
the higher fuel pressure and you know technically the higher fuel pressure
technically the higher fuel pressure does help a bit with fuel atomization
does help a bit with fuel atomization but in the real world it doesn't I've
but in the real world it doesn't I've never seen it amount to horsepower gains
never seen it amount to horsepower gains so so with higher fuel pressure right
so so with higher fuel pressure right does that increase
does that increase heat uh it would increase a little bit
heat uh it would increase a little bit of heat on the pump the brushed pumps
of heat on the pump the brushed pumps have fuel running through the brushes
have fuel running through the brushes and the motor and all that and they heat
and the motor and all that and they heat up the fuel a lot more than a brushless
up the fuel a lot more than a brushless pump does okay um but in the end it's
pump does okay um but in the end it's not really a factor okay so now this
not really a factor okay so now this controller right that you guys have is
controller right that you guys have is there is that still like pretty much
there is that still like pretty much it's not in testing people have it right
it's not in testing people have it right but is that is that something that you
but is that is that something that you guys are still kind of working on and
guys are still kind of working on and and figuring things out with or no it's
and figuring things out with or no it's pretty much a set it's pretty pricey too
pretty much a set it's pretty pricey too we worked on it for a solid six or seven
we worked on it for a solid six or seven years before we released it what it went
years before we released it what it went it went from an idea to a working
it went from an idea to a working concept forever to eventually now a
concept forever to eventually now a production piece so there's I think
production piece so there's I think we're on serial number 700 or so right
we're on serial number 700 or so right now so there there's there's lot of them
now so there there's there's lot of them out there wow and so now you can just
out there wow and so now you can just run this controller with one pump
run this controller with one pump basically as long as you make I've made
basically as long as you make I've made 2200 at the wheels on ethanol with one
2200 at the wheels on ethanol with one so if you're making less than that
so if you're making less than that you're probably fine with just one damn
you're probably fine with just one damn and then on on the the v10s that are
and then on on the the v10s that are making more will run two of the two of
making more will run two of the two of the brushless pumps same pump mhm with
the brushless pumps same pump mhm with our controller it's good for a little
our controller it's good for a little over 2,000 with the factory R8
over 2,000 with the factory R8 controller it's good for about 700 or so
controller it's good for about 700 or so yeah so that combo we've got 27 to 2900
yeah so that combo we've got 27 to 2900 um and we haven't maxed that out yet
um and we haven't maxed that out yet that's like a big deal man yeah
that's like a big deal man yeah especially with like how fuel used to be
especially with like how fuel used to be us said four four pumps in the tank and
us said four four pumps in the tank and all these other contrations and stuff
all these other contrations and stuff like just to have one controller operate
like just to have one controller operate one pump and make that kind of power is
one pump and make that kind of power is kind of it's kind of crazy and with full
kind of it's kind of crazy and with full speed control so you know you're not
speed control so you know you're not circulating the pump will flow 1100 L
circulating the pump will flow 1100 L per hour yeah but that's only when you
per hour yeah but that's only when you need it right so it'll flow 300 on the
need it right so it'll flow 300 on the minimum mhm and then that same pump on
minimum mhm and then that same pump on the ra controller will go even lower
the ra controller will go even lower than that so you know you've got
than that so you know you've got something capable of close to 3,000
something capable of close to 3,000 horsepower and you're you're circulating
horsepower and you're you're circulating enough for 500 horsepower on ethanol uh
enough for 500 horsepower on ethanol uh at idol yeah versus you know all the
at idol yeah versus you know all the staged pumps you know we got whether the
staged pumps you know we got whether the ECU did it or we have hob switches I
ECU did it or we have hob switches I mean yeah it's the same as the the check
mean yeah it's the same as the the check valves on our map censor line back in
valves on our map censor line back in the day you you do what you got to do
the day you you do what you got to do the technology wasn't there to do
the technology wasn't there to do something better but right it is now
something better but right it is now damn that's impressive man that's cool
damn that's impressive man that's cool that's cool as [ __ ] I'm going to have to
that's cool as [ __ ] I'm going to have to might have to look into that there you
might have to look into that there you go so um at Texas 2K you had one of the
go so um at Texas 2K you had one of the uh the Audi there I think it was a was
uh the Audi there I think it was a was it GT4 yeah that's G my new drag build
it GT4 yeah that's G my new drag build when is that going to when is that going
when is that going to when is that going to be done uh hoping to have it at FL 2K
to be done uh hoping to have it at FL 2K really yep so can you talk about that
really yep so can you talk about that build and what what's uh what's going to
build and what what's uh what's going to be like in that car setup wise so the
be like in that car setup wise so the GT4 it's such a neat car to start from
GT4 it's such a neat car to start from you know it comes with I mean a better
you know it comes with I mean a better cage than I've ever seen in any drag car
cage than I've ever seen in any drag car and uh a proper race seat and I mean
and uh a proper race seat and I mean it's it's a race car from Audi but it's
it's it's a race car from Audi but it's still the R8 um it's rear wheel drive
still the R8 um it's rear wheel drive uh it's a fair amount lighter just
uh it's a fair amount lighter just because it doesn't have the crap you
because it doesn't have the crap you don't need right but the biggest problem
don't need right but the biggest problem with these cars at at their extremes is
with these cars at at their extremes is keeping the wheels down and so you know
keeping the wheels down and so you know the you've got uh engine trans all the
the you've got uh engine trans all the turbo everything's back mhm and so with
turbo everything's back mhm and so with that car I put a fuel cell in the very
that car I put a fuel cell in the very front put the water tank in the very
front put the water tank in the very front and I put the um the turbos up
front and I put the um the turbos up where the side pod radiators normally
where the side pod radiators normally are and then the intercoolers are where
are and then the intercoolers are where the factory gas tank was so all the mass
the factory gas tank was so all the mass is is forward of the engine right so the
is is forward of the engine right so the goal is that um it'll be able to put the
goal is that um it'll be able to put the power down without wheeling and
power down without wheeling and ultimately go faster you know we we've
ultimately go faster you know we we've got wheelie control we can we can
got wheelie control we can we can control the wheelie but at the end of
control the wheelie but at the end of the day if it's going to wheelie and
the day if it's going to wheelie and you're pulling torque out of it to keep
you're pulling torque out of it to keep it not Wheeling yeah you're not going to
it not Wheeling yeah you're not going to go faster unless you get around that
go faster unless you get around that right right so um we can put ballast up
right right so um we can put ballast up front I mean back to the front wheel
front I mean back to the front wheel drive days I've got 150 lbs of ballast
drive days I've got 150 lbs of ballast in the front of that car just to start
in the front of that car just to start out yeah and then you know once once
out yeah and then you know once once it's going and everything's good I'll
it's going and everything's good I'll start pulling it out but I don't want to
start pulling it out but I don't want to start with Wheeling I'd rather start
start with Wheeling I'd rather start with not we we'll work work backwards
with not we we'll work work backwards how much power is that car going to
how much power is that car going to make uh I it it should make over 3,000
make uh I it it should make over 3,000 pretty comfortably I mean it has all the
pretty comfortably I mean it has all the right stuff that car is on methanol it's
right stuff that car is on methanol it's first V10 we've done on methanol okay uh
first V10 we've done on methanol okay uh it has 80 mm turbos it's got a build
it has 80 mm turbos it's got a build block I mean it's got all the right
block I mean it's got all the right stuff so we've done 20 a little over 26
stuff so we've done 20 a little over 26 uh with smaller turbos on ethanol on a
uh with smaller turbos on ethanol on a factory block so I think it'll do it
factory block so I think it'll do it it's not going to need it right off the
it's not going to need it right off the bat but I mean it has the potential to
bat but I mean it has the potential to do everything it needs to do and you're
do everything it needs to do and you're going to go for records it's going to be
going to go for records it's going to be half mile quarter mile car quart quarter
half mile quarter mile car quart quarter mile only qu mile only it's still rear
mile only qu mile only it's still rear wheel drive um on on the drag strip on
wheel drive um on on the drag strip on slicks uh there's not a lot lost
slicks uh there's not a lot lost especially when you have a car like this
especially when you have a car like this it's so light in the front end yeah you
it's so light in the front end yeah you know the the fronts really can't do that
know the the fronts really can't do that much if they're barely touching the
much if they're barely touching the ground um but if I was to do half mile
ground um but if I was to do half mile or uh you know roll racing on a non- pre
or uh you know roll racing on a non- pre surface losing all-wheel drive is way
surface losing all-wheel drive is way too much of a loss so those cars need to
too much of a loss so those cars need to be all-wheel drive I always thought that
be all-wheel drive I always thought that um like the fast fastest cars were wheer
um like the fast fastest cars were wheer Drive they are the fastest cars are drag
Drive they are the fastest cars are drag cars right and they're on they've got
cars right and they're on they've got big slicks and they're on a I mean
big slicks and they're on a I mean you've stood on a racetrack before right
you've stood on a racetrack before right you know that when your shoe sticks to
you know that when your shoe sticks to it it's different than the street yeah
it it's different than the street yeah but when you when it comes to non- pre
but when you when it comes to non- pre surface rear wheel drive won't compare
surface rear wheel drive won't compare to a drive you know eventually you could
to a drive you know eventually you could still have a fast car but you're going
still have a fast car but you're going to have a massive Tire on it right right
to have a massive Tire on it right right and so I mean you can only fit so much
and so I mean you can only fit so much on something like this yeah so yeah so
on something like this yeah so yeah so with the rear wheel drive and O drive if
with the rear wheel drive and O drive if you're rooll racing right I've always
you're rooll racing right I've always when I was younger I don't know who told
when I was younger I don't know who told me this but apparently when you're
me this but apparently when you're racing a car and it's Ola drive against
racing a car and it's Ola drive against a rear wheel drive car um since it's
a rear wheel drive car um since it's since the power has to be distributed
since the power has to be distributed through four wheels um it won't take off
through four wheels um it won't take off as fast as a rear wheel drive car is
as fast as a rear wheel drive car is that true no no difference at all none
that true no no difference at all none at all I mean the the wheels are already
at all I mean the the wheels are already dri it's not like there's slack in the
dri it's not like there's slack in the drive line or something okay right now
drive line or something okay right now what you will see is uh how the car
what you will see is uh how the car takes off right are you using antiag are
takes off right are you using antiag are you brake boosting do on a roll though
you brake boosting do on a roll though only I'm talking about right does it
only I'm talking about right does it have big turbos where you know you floor
have big turbos where you know you floor it it takes a second and a half for the
it it takes a second and a half for the Boost to come up okay versus maybe you
Boost to come up okay versus maybe you got a rear wheel drive drag car with a a
got a rear wheel drive drag car with a a V10 in it that's got you know instant
V10 in it that's got you know instant torque yeah so that's what's going to
torque yeah so that's what's going to determine the hit uh technically if it's
determine the hit uh technically if it's a high horsepower car and say you're
a high horsepower car and say you're going from
going from 60 the the re drive car is not going to
60 the the re drive car is not going to be able to put it all down but if the
be able to put it all down but if the all drive car can now that car's going
all drive car can now that car's going to leave it you know and when it comes
to leave it you know and when it comes to roll racing it's it's an ET race it's
to roll racing it's it's an ET race it's not a mile hour race you know we talk
not a mile hour race you know we talk about the mile hour but it's who gets to
about the mile hour but it's who gets to the Finish Line first yeah and so that's
the Finish Line first yeah and so that's where you know being able to put it all
where you know being able to put it all down as soon as you can as big versus
down as soon as you can as big versus half mile is it's it's just mile hour
half mile is it's it's just mile hour it's not about ET you know you see those
it's not about ET you know you see those car they leave slow yeah you know they
car they leave slow yeah you know they get half track and they're really steam
get half track and they're really steam but yeah the roll race is still it's
but yeah the roll race is still it's still a drag race
still a drag race so even on the street same thing applies
so even on the street same thing applies yeah basically okay that's good to know
yeah basically okay that's good to know I've always wondered that I never got to
I've always wondered that I never got to ask anybody but that was always the
ask anybody but that was always the thing because I always it kind of made
thing because I always it kind of made sense though like if you have to
sense though like if you have to distribute power through I guess more
distribute power through I guess more wheels and it would take longer for the
wheels and it would take longer for the car to pick up but that kind of makes
car to pick up but that kind of makes sense so now with the Audi with the GT4
sense so now with the Audi with the GT4 um you said you're running 80 M 80 mil
um you said you're running 80 M 80 mil turbos y so are these 80 M also they are
turbos y so are these 80 M also they are so when you say 80 mm that that refers
so when you say 80 mm that that refers to the compressor inducer diameter right
to the compressor inducer diameter right so the the biggest part at Inlet of the
so the the biggest part at Inlet of the compressor wheel then you've got the
compressor wheel then you've got the exducer diameter which is the the back
exducer diameter which is the the back side of the wheel and so not all 80mm
side of the wheel and so not all 80mm compressors are the same but for the
compressors are the same but for the most part and that's why there's um the
most part and that's why there's um the turbo rules are usually based around the
turbo rules are usually based around the inducer diameter because that's the
inducer diameter because that's the biggest factor in power uh those are g45
biggest factor in power uh those are g45 Garretts these are g47 so the in Garrett
Garretts these are g47 so the in Garrett PE the 45 and the 47 refers to the
PE the 45 and the 47 refers to the turbine wheel so these are bigger
turbine wheel so these are bigger turbine wheel than those are and for
turbine wheel than those are and for Garrett yeah
Garrett yeah Oh I thought it was a frame like how SI
Oh I thought it was a frame like how SI because every company has their you know
because every company has their you know their thing for size yeah so the
their thing for size yeah so the technically the 40 the 40 g42 and g45
technically the 40 the 40 g42 and g45 can be had in the same frame you know
can be had in the same frame you know you could take the fulls sizee 42 and
you could take the fulls sizee 42 and unbolt it and bolt in a fulls sizee 45
unbolt it and bolt in a fulls sizee 45 the 47 has a little bit bigger
the 47 has a little bit bigger compressor housing um but it's still
compressor housing um but it's still what they call the the large frame turbo
what they call the the large frame turbo yeah um but yeah the the numbers in
yeah um but yeah the the numbers in Garrett speak the the G 3540 42 45 that
Garrett speak the the G 3540 42 45 that all refers to the turbine size right and
all refers to the turbine size right and then the way Garrett does it the next
then the way Garrett does it the next number so the G those are g45 1600s so
number so the G those are g45 1600s so the 1600 is the horsepower it should
the 1600 is the horsepower it should make okay so they keep it simple um you
make okay so they keep it simple um you know there's
know there's g45 uh 1450 I think which is a smaller
g45 uh 1450 I think which is a smaller compressor inducer so that's basically
compressor inducer so that's basically so it has nothing to do with the uh the
so it has nothing to do with the uh the wheel size or anything like that the
wheel size or anything like that the second number technically it it relates
second number technically it it relates to the compressor wheel size but it's
to the compressor wheel size but it's not a measurement got it's a horsepower
not a measurement got it's a horsepower estimation right so is Garrett pretty
estimation right so is Garrett pretty much cuz I know when you like get like a
much cuz I know when you like get like a custom manifold they usually basically
custom manifold they usually basically say it's good for like a g42 or kind of
say it's good for like a g42 or kind of you know Sol the frame size turbo but
you know Sol the frame size turbo but Precision seems to be like just
Precision seems to be like just different like it's every company's they
different like it's every company's they all do it different which is is nice I
all do it different which is is nice I kind of wish it was like more like a
kind of wish it was like more like a like a one like a IND industry standard
like a one like a IND industry standard Precision kind of started this you know
Precision kind of started this you know 6266 thing and and that n clature makes
6266 thing and and that n clature makes a lot of sense to people so uh turbos
a lot of sense to people so uh turbos smart started doing turbos they they did
smart started doing turbos they they did the same thing yeah so that's I'd say
the same thing yeah so that's I'd say that's the most common uh Force
that's the most common uh Force performance in Zona does it um oh they
performance in Zona does it um oh they do uh flow the pound pound pounds per
do uh flow the pound pound pounds per minute yeah so the first part is pounds
minute yeah so the first part is pounds per minute and the second is uh the
per minute and the second is uh the turbine I don't know if it's inducer or
turbine I don't know if it's inducer or exducer so like the 9569 the 90 it's 95
exducer so like the 9569 the 90 it's 95 lb per minute compressor yeah with their
lb per minute compressor yeah with their 69 mil uh turbine wheel so yeah
69 mil uh turbine wheel so yeah everybody does it different but they
everybody does it different but they actually just switched it they're going
actually just switched it they're going to switch their I think one of the one
to switch their I think one of the one of the lines they're going to switch to
of the lines they're going to switch to uh how Precision does because people
uh how Precision does because people were getting confused yeah and they kind
were getting confused yeah and they kind of he said they quickly realize the
of he said they quickly realize the power capabilities of like like if he
power capabilities of like like if he says it's like a 1150 then you think oh
says it's like a 1150 then you think oh you can make 1150 on it but um it's just
you can make 1150 on it but um it's just easier because everyone's kind of like
easier because everyone's kind of like on that same turbos are very complicated
on that same turbos are very complicated and especially when it gets to
and especially when it gets to compressor maps and stuff yeah most
compressor maps and stuff yeah most people don't understand it so the simple
people don't understand it so the simple the more simple you can make it the
the more simple you can make it the better it's going to be for everybody
better it's going to be for everybody and you know as a a normal consumer that
and you know as a a normal consumer that goes to buy a turbo M if they understand
goes to buy a turbo M if they understand it they're a lot more likely to buy your
it they're a lot more likely to buy your product anyway so you know being oh no
product anyway so you know being oh no we're we're more engineering based and
we're we're more engineering based and ours is right there's is
ours is right there's is wrong okay that's that could be cool but
wrong okay that's that could be cool but you're probably losing sales because of
you're probably losing sales because of it no 100% 100% so now when it comes to
it no 100% 100% so now when it comes to just overall like I guess racing and
just overall like I guess racing and obviously you have fast cars been at Tas
obviously you have fast cars been at Tas 2K you've done broke records done
2K you've done broke records done everything do you feel like there's any
everything do you feel like there's any competition out there for you yeah
competition out there for you yeah there's always competition really yeah
there's always competition really yeah look I mean we've held records but but
look I mean we've held records but but nobody nobody keeps a record right
nobody nobody keeps a record right eventually somebody's going to come take
eventually somebody's going to come take it so um yeah there's there's a lot of
it so um yeah there's there's a lot of good competition out there so so you
good competition out there so so you think anybody anybody's gonna be Billy's
think anybody anybody's gonna be Billy's car that's that's a I don't know if
car that's that's a I don't know if anything in the works you know and it's
anything in the works you know and it's funny Billy's car is so much faster than
funny Billy's car is so much faster than most that are doing that um it's the
most that are doing that um it's the only purpose built roll race car we've
only purpose built roll race car we've ever built everybody wants build builds
ever built everybody wants build builds a drrive car and roll RAC it so you know
a drrive car and roll RAC it so you know you're building to some kind of drag
you're building to some kind of drag class rules nobody would build this
class rules nobody would build this combo into a street car and go to drag
combo into a street car and go to drag race because you'd end up racing George
race because you'd end up racing George and it's like okay your car's 800 lbs
and it's like okay your car's 800 lbs heavier like that's not a race yeah so
heavier like that's not a race yeah so in the r race stuff this car is not
in the r race stuff this car is not allowed because it's a race car mhm so
allowed because it's a race car mhm so you know he went he went all the way and
you know he went he went all the way and nobody else has done that yet and you
nobody else has done that yet and you know there's uh ETS has made this kind
know there's uh ETS has made this kind of power MH so I mean there's no reason
of power MH so I mean there's no reason they couldn't build the same thing it's
they couldn't build the same thing it's just it takes a special person like that
just it takes a special person like that wants to do that for for one purpose now
wants to do that for for one purpose now do you count that as like cuz that's
do you count that as like cuz that's technically uh I guess customer car but
technically uh I guess customer car but I guess for you maybe that was I don't
I guess for you maybe that was I don't know if that was more personal when I
know if that was more personal when I asked you the question like if it was
asked you the question like if it was more like competition wise but like
more like competition wise but like obviously it's a customer C do you do
obviously it's a customer C do you do you feel like there's competition
you feel like there's competition anywhere
anywhere else uh in in regard to other cars Roll
else uh in in regard to other cars Roll Racing I mean there hasn't there hasn't
Racing I mean there hasn't there hasn't shown to be yet really why you I mean
shown to be yet really why you I mean there's fast cars right but there's
there's fast cars right but there's nothing that's like oh I think that car
nothing that's like oh I think that car would beat Billy's car yet and what
would beat Billy's car yet and what about um for drag racing um this car
about um for drag racing um this car went uh
went uh 651 probably three years ago or so mhm
651 probably three years ago or so mhm and we spent a couple years playing with
and we spent a couple years playing with it rear wheel drive to see if the uh
it rear wheel drive to see if the uh weight loss outweighed the the traction
weight loss outweighed the the traction loss yeah right so we dropped about 200
loss yeah right so we dropped about 200 lb making it rear wheel drive it was
lb making it rear wheel drive it was still the factory trans so we're still
still the factory trans so we're still dealing with all the G gr6 stuff and um
dealing with all the G gr6 stuff and um we went the 651 with it but it still
we went the 651 with it but it still wasn't as fast half track as we had gone
wasn't as fast half track as we had gone all-wheel drive okay and so we just
all-wheel drive okay and so we just switched it back um end of last year or
switched it back um end of last year or early this year to all-wheel drive and
early this year to all-wheel drive and we don't have that many passes on it
we don't have that many passes on it with all-wheel drive but we've already
with all-wheel drive but we've already bettered the 60 to 130 an eigh mile from
bettered the 60 to 130 an eigh mile from what it was right so I'm confident it's
what it was right so I'm confident it's going to go quicker now at this level
going to go quicker now at this level there nobody else really trying right
there nobody else really trying right now you know ETS was the only other one
now you know ETS was the only other one um and they've I don't know if they sold
um and they've I don't know if they sold the car or what but I don't know who
the car or what but I don't know who else is trying to compete at this level
else is trying to compete at this level right now so there's no competition
right now so there's no competition because nobody else is competing got it
because nobody else is competing got it but you know somebody somebody will do
but you know somebody somebody will do it and I I hope they do it's more fun to
it and I I hope they do it's more fun to race when you're that's the thing
race when you're that's the thing because it's like you're already when
because it's like you're already when you're already there it's like how do
you're already there it's like how do you how do you stay motivated yeah well
you how do you stay motivated yeah well and the other part is with for this
and the other part is with for this carard to run a record it's on kill in
carard to run a record it's on kill in every regard okay right right and so you
every regard okay right right and so you only get so many attempts at that and
only get so many attempts at that and it's not cheap right right so if that's
it's not cheap right right so if that's all I was doing you know that's it's not
all I was doing you know that's it's not my call as long as Jordan wants to do it
my call as long as Jordan wants to do it we'll do it but um if it was my car I
we'll do it but um if it was my car I would probably be looking to do
would probably be looking to do something different but the V10 stuff is
something different but the V10 stuff is new to me uh every time we go out we
new to me uh every time we go out we have the potential to go quite a bit
have the potential to go quite a bit quicker yeah and this car is really
quicker yeah and this car is really exciting to me because it's I mean it's
exciting to me because it's I mean it's all new stuff right so
all new stuff right so yeah that's kind of lit a flame again
yeah that's kind of lit a flame again that's like the new chapter basically
that's like the new chapter basically yeah we we want to see I want to see
yeah we we want to see I want to see that I got to be there for that I'll be
that I got to be there for that I'll be at fl2k so I'm surprised you're even
at fl2k so I'm surprised you're even going I didn't even know you're going to
going I didn't even know you're going to run it there this is this will be our
run it there this is this will be our first fl2k because we've done World Cup
first fl2k because we've done World Cup finals in Maryland for the past handful
finals in Maryland for the past handful of years MH and when we go to a race we
of years MH and when we go to a race we bring you know at WCF usually maybe five
bring you know at WCF usually maybe five six seven cars yeah uh tx2k or FL 2K 10
six seven cars yeah uh tx2k or FL 2K 10 to 12 cars mhm when you bring that that
to 12 cars mhm when you bring that that number of cars we can't do two races 30
number of cars we can't do two races 30 days apart and so that's what it's
days apart and so that's what it's always been and so we went to WCF um not
always been and so we went to WCF um not because we're competitive there because
because we're competitive there because we're not because it's back to the pro
we're not because it's back to the pro tree thing so we're racing cars on a pro
tree thing so we're racing cars on a pro Tre either we go in first and they burn
Tre either we go in first and they burn us down or they go in quick and you're
us down or they go in quick and you're screwed yeah because this car takes
screwed yeah because this car takes close to two seconds on in launch before
close to two seconds on in launch before the Boost is ready for it to leave so if
the Boost is ready for it to leave so if you go in second you only got half a
you go in second you only got half a second so you either go early and bog
second so you either go early and bog and hope he breaks or something
and hope he breaks or something or wait you're boost and hope you can
or wait you're boost and hope you can run down at WCF the cars are fast it's
run down at WCF the cars are fast it's so we went there because it's a good
so we went there because it's a good track the weather's great and the
track the weather's great and the potential to set records which is where
potential to set records which is where that set the record right right um but
that set the record right right um but you know that only that only lasts so
you know that only that only lasts so long people want to race so FL 2K is a
long people want to race so FL 2K is a race for us tx2k so but the heat isn't
race for us tx2k so but the heat isn't going to be an issue you think like you
going to be an issue you think like you won't you won't really see that car's
won't you won't really see that car's full potential in in that kind of
full potential in in that kind of weather right um it it makes a
weather right um it it makes a difference but it's not huge so because
difference but it's not huge so because of the air to water intercoolers mhm
of the air to water intercoolers mhm we're able to get the Air temps that the
we're able to get the Air temps that the engine sees uh roughly the same almost
engine sees uh roughly the same almost no matter what the ambient temp is the
no matter what the ambient temp is the intercooler works really well now what
intercooler works really well now what is different is the compressor
is different is the compressor efficiency changes so it won't make as
efficiency changes so it won't make as much boost so we will see a difference
much boost so we will see a difference there um the 90 PBS of boost is in
there um the 90 PBS of boost is in really good conditions like Mir um in
really good conditions like Mir um in lesser conditions we'll still see over
lesser conditions we'll still see over 80 yeah so I mean it'll still make a lot
80 yeah so I mean it'll still make a lot of power there's nothing you can do when
of power there's nothing you can do when it comes to like I've seen this this uh
it comes to like I've seen this this uh there was one turbo I've seen they had
there was one turbo I've seen they had like a some Port right in front of the
like a some Port right in front of the compressor wheel and it sprayed uh I
compressor wheel and it sprayed uh I don't know if it was nitrous it was
don't know if it was nitrous it was something else I'm not sure what it was
something else I'm not sure what it was you do nitrous you can do water I I
you do nitrous you can do water I I experimented it was water I experimented
experimented it was water I experimented with that a long time ago uh on the
with that a long time ago uh on the Integra I tried ethanol no intercooler
Integra I tried ethanol no intercooler and water injection okay and it was a
and water injection okay and it was a pretty neat deal so the the Mis thing
pretty neat deal so the the Mis thing that I used was uh it was for like an
that I used was uh it was for like an automated painting thing okay so it had
automated painting thing okay so it had this really really fine mist and since
this really really fine mist and since it was before the turbo it didn't need a
it was before the turbo it didn't need a high press pump like a normal methanol
high press pump like a normal methanol injection would where it's spraying into
injection would where it's spraying into a charge pipe yeah and so I had a deal
a charge pipe yeah and so I had a deal where uh it had a chamber that was
where uh it had a chamber that was pressurized by boost pressure that fed
pressurized by boost pressure that fed the the valve and so I put a boost
the the valve and so I put a boost solenoid in line on that so I could
solenoid in line on that so I could control the amount of water flow so I
control the amount of water flow so I could I could pulse that and restrict
could I could pulse that and restrict the Boost to the chamber to get less
the Boost to the chamber to get less water flow and so I had control of the
water flow and so I had control of the water flow through the computer that way
water flow through the computer that way and uh I started with full flow you know
and uh I started with full flow you know everything was was working but the car
everything was was working but the car was down on Power and so I was started
was down on Power and so I was started doing less and less water and the power
doing less and less water and the power kept coming up but the Air temps also
kept coming up but the Air temps also kept coming up and I got to like 250°
kept coming up and I got to like 250° Air temps and I'm like man I'm not I'm
Air temps and I'm like man I'm not I'm not comfortable with this anymore yeah
not comfortable with this anymore yeah so I just put it inter cor on it okay so
so I just put it inter cor on it okay so you kind of allev that yeah but I mean
you kind of allev that yeah but I mean there's there there's potential for
there's there there's potential for things like that for sure yeah I think
things like that for sure yeah I think actually it was it was air I think he
actually it was it was air I think he had air and it was spinning the turbo
had air and it was spinning the turbo faster m sure I'm not sure I think it
faster m sure I'm not sure I think it could work maybe to get it going but at
could work maybe to get it going but at the end of the day I mean you know
the end of the day I mean you know depending on the size of turbo this
depending on the size of turbo this thing will see over 100,000 RPM on the
thing will see over 100,000 RPM on the turbo and you're you're not going to put
turbo and you're you're not going to put air in there fast enough to to speed
air in there fast enough to to speed that up same deal you know like uh Ram
that up same deal you know like uh Ram Air you know a lot of naturally
Air you know a lot of naturally aspirated cars they have you know some
aspirated cars they have you know some kind of vents in the hood or whatever to
kind of vents in the hood or whatever to try to get some positive pressure right
try to get some positive pressure right right so if if roughly 100 kPa is
right so if if roughly 100 kPa is atmospheric pressure um say you took
atmospheric pressure um say you took that car and had it on a trailer and the
that car and had it on a trailer and the engine's off right so it's not consuming
engine's off right so it's not consuming any air and you go fast enough to where
any air and you go fast enough to where positive pressure builds you know in the
positive pressure builds you know in the engine or in the throttle before the
engine or in the throttle before the throttle technically that could be boost
throttle technically that could be boost basically mhm now now you open the
basically mhm now now you open the throttle and the engine starts consuming
throttle and the engine starts consuming all the air that it's consuming now you
all the air that it's consuming now you have to you have to overrun what it's
have to you have to overrun what it's consuming to be able to have any kind of
consuming to be able to have any kind of positive pressure ahead of that so in a
positive pressure ahead of that so in a naturally aspirated car you could you
naturally aspirated car you could you could get there uh I did I did a lot
could get there uh I did I did a lot with this with the Integra and I a
with this with the Integra and I a really nice airbox and it fed through
really nice airbox and it fed through both the headlights and it was sealed to
both the headlights and it was sealed to the turbo and everything and you know at
the turbo and everything and you know at this time it was probably making like
this time it was probably making like 700 700 horsepower so say you know it's
700 700 horsepower so say you know it's consuming 70 PBS a minute of air you
consuming 70 PBS a minute of air you would have to overrun that to build any
would have to overrun that to build any kind of positive pressure yeah and it
kind of positive pressure yeah and it but it would stay right at atmosphere
but it would stay right at atmosphere and then at the end of the track when
and then at the end of the track when I'd lift the throttle you know 160 or
I'd lift the throttle you know 160 or something you lift the throttle and stop
something you lift the throttle and stop consuming and now it builts a positive
consuming and now it builts a positive pressure so um you're not going to get
pressure so um you're not going to get like an actual Ram Air effect yeah it
like an actual Ram Air effect yeah it just it would take such a massive amount
just it would take such a massive amount of air but if you can stop if you can
of air but if you can stop if you can maintain atmospheric pressure there
maintain atmospheric pressure there you're winning most cars you have you
you're winning most cars you have you know a turbo some kind of an inlet pipe
know a turbo some kind of an inlet pipe maybe you have a filter maybe you don't
maybe you have a filter maybe you don't yeah you're not going to have atmosphere
yeah you're not going to have atmosphere at the turbo there's going to be a
at the turbo there's going to be a pressure drop through the system right
pressure drop through the system right so uh fixing or minimizing that goes a
so uh fixing or minimizing that goes a long way and it multiplies because that
long way and it multiplies because that determines the pressure ratio of the
determines the pressure ratio of the compressor and so if you're running five
compressor and so if you're running five bar a boost and you can fix that by 10
bar a boost and you can fix that by 10 or 15 kPa it's big so you know when it
or 15 kPa it's big so you know when it comes to designing a turbo system you
comes to designing a turbo system you want as as much air flow as you can get
want as as much air flow as you can get into the turbo do you have to do you
into the turbo do you have to do you recommend running a blowoff valve is
recommend running a blowoff valve is that like a necessity when you have tur
that like a necessity when you have tur it's a safety thing for the turbo um you
it's a safety thing for the turbo um you know it doesn't make power or anything
know it doesn't make power or anything um but when you lift the throttle the
um but when you lift the throttle the turbo's going 100,000 RPM and moving all
turbo's going 100,000 RPM and moving all that air and if it doesn't have a way
that air and if it doesn't have a way somewhere to go then the turbo goes from
somewhere to go then the turbo goes from 100,000 to very slow very quickly so
100,000 to very slow very quickly so it's hard on the compressor wheel it's
it's hard on the compressor wheel it's hard on the shaft
hard on the shaft um the uh the Nismo race cars they don't
um the uh the Nismo race cars they don't run a lot of boost you know they're
run a lot of boost you know they're they're power limited by the sanctioning
they're power limited by the sanctioning bodies they don't run a BL valve but
bodies they don't run a BL valve but they're running you know maybe 10 or 12
they're running you know maybe 10 or 12 pounds of boost it's not a big deal the
pounds of boost it's not a big deal the turbos could take it so now these anti-
turbos could take it so now these anti- surge The anti- Surge that they have on
surge The anti- Surge that they have on turbo that has nothing to do with that
turbo that has nothing to do with that well so the anti- surges in the event of
well so the anti- surges in the event of surge it's not intended for not using a
surge it's not intended for not using a blowoff valve it's intended for when
blowoff valve it's intended for when you're looking at a compressor
you're looking at a compressor if you're on on the top left side of it
if you're on on the top left side of it you're in Surge it takes a really big
you're in Surge it takes a really big turbo and a pretty small motor to be
turbo and a pretty small motor to be able to get in that situation which we
able to get in that situation which we we've gotten to on these yeah and in
we've gotten to on these yeah and in that event the turbo's trying to put out
that event the turbo's trying to put out more more air than the engine could take
more more air than the engine could take and it will start to compress Surge and
and it will start to compress Surge and those slots air comes back forward
those slots air comes back forward through those now in a lot of the the
through those now in a lot of the the kind of I don't want to say cheater
kind of I don't want to say cheater turbos but the drag specific turbos
turbos but the drag specific turbos where they're they know you're not going
where they're they know you're not going to be in Surge they'll design those
to be in Surge they'll design those ports to where they're they'll get a
ports to where they're they'll get a little more air into the compressor
little more air into the compressor wheel so it doesn't it it hurts the
wheel so it doesn't it it hurts the efficiency but it increases the air flow
efficiency but it increases the air flow capability a little bit so in the end
capability a little bit so in the end when it's a purpose-built thing and you
when it's a purpose-built thing and you go okay I can hurt the efficiency here
go okay I can hurt the efficiency here but I pick up 5 pounds per minute it's
but I pick up 5 pounds per minute it's still worth doing right right right I've
still worth doing right right right I've always wondered that these are kind of
always wondered that these are kind of things I figured I kind of saved them I
things I figured I kind of saved them I was like let me ask let me ask Tony I
was like let me ask let me ask Tony I know he definitely would know for sure
know he definitely would know for sure um so with the with the V10 um I was
um so with the with the V10 um I was talking to one of your employees and he
talking to one of your employees and he was saying that you guys are making I
was saying that you guys are making I mean everybody's making big Power on
mean everybody's making big Power on these cars right so what are some of the
these cars right so what are some of the things that we're going to be looking
things that we're going to be looking forward to seeing um with with the V10
forward to seeing um with with the V10 from T1 you know it's because they make
from T1 you know it's because they make Power yeah it's and it's been baby steps
Power yeah it's and it's been baby steps and so I approached this platform
and so I approached this platform different than the GTR okay and that if
different than the GTR okay and that if it's not broke we're not going to
it's not broke we're not going to replace it right other than Pistons rods
replace it right other than Pistons rods Springs you know the the the known and
Springs you know the the the known and um we started I started my car with uh
um we started I started my car with uh initially my car had just an AMS Alpha
initially my car had just an AMS Alpha 12 turbo kit and um
12 turbo kit and um I had no intention of it turning into
I had no intention of it turning into what it did yeah but we went to uh g42
what it did yeah but we went to uh g42 1200s which I'm like you know these are
1200s which I'm like you know these are Big I hadn't I didn't have any
Big I hadn't I didn't have any experience with that kind of power level
experience with that kind of power level on this platform yet so start there
on this platform yet so start there those worked well Max those out like all
those worked well Max those out like all right well let's go up to the 1450s now
right well let's go up to the 1450s now we're on G 45s and it's the same as the
we're on G 45s and it's the same as the GTR stuff I mean yeah we could have just
GTR stuff I mean yeah we could have just jumped all the way in h but I don't know
jumped all the way in h but I don't know what we would have missed in the middle
what we would have missed in the middle there yeah and you know it's it's how
there yeah and you know it's it's how you normally go and you just slowly
you normally go and you just slowly progress and I think you get the better
progress and I think you get the better results yeah in the end that way so are
results yeah in the end that way so are we going to see aside from your car any
we going to see aside from your car any like customer cars that you have in the
like customer cars that you have in the lineup for for this coming year maybe at
lineup for for this coming year maybe at FL 2K or World Cup
FL 2K or World Cup yeah I don't know exactly who else
yeah I don't know exactly who else coming to World Cup but we'll have uh at
coming to World Cup but we'll have uh at least a few v10s we've got uh Ricky's
least a few v10s we've got uh Ricky's the green one his his is kind of you
the green one his his is kind of you know followed in the footsteps of what
know followed in the footsteps of what mine did so uh I think he's gone went
mine did so uh I think he's gone went 743 I think uh with Amy driving it and
743 I think uh with Amy driving it and then I think Ricky's gone like 751 or
then I think Ricky's gone like 751 or something so far so I mean it's it's
something so far so I mean it's it's right there that's wild so what what
right there that's wild so what what does it cost to to build a let's say a
does it cost to to build a let's say a V10 from T1 at that level say 2500
V10 from T1 at that level say 2500 horsepower oh like what's the entry how
horsepower oh like what's the entry how do you like what's the like let's say if
do you like what's the like let's say if I want to have a T1 built car how much
I want to have a T1 built car how much does it cost well you could do I mean
does it cost well you could do I mean you could start with uh stock fuel
you could start with uh stock fuel system stock clutch basic turbo setup
system stock clutch basic turbo setup you know 850 or so you you be fuel
you know 850 or so you you be fuel system Limited at that point mhm um you
system Limited at that point mhm um you can get in that for 50 Grand or so okay
can get in that for 50 Grand or so okay now uh fuel system is going to be the
now uh fuel system is going to be the first limitation you upgrade the fuel
first limitation you upgrade the fuel system now the clutch is an X limitation
system now the clutch is an X limitation uh we usually go to 1150 or so on a
uh we usually go to 1150 or so on a stock clutch with a TCM flash to get
stock clutch with a TCM flash to get more clutch pressure for it to hold and
more clutch pressure for it to hold and then um then there's the transmission
then um then there's the transmission right do you just upgrade the clutch to
right do you just upgrade the clutch to the the what you need to hold the torque
the the what you need to hold the torque that it'll make yeah do go ahead and do
that it'll make yeah do go ahead and do a gear set you know it could go from
a gear set you know it could go from $88,000 to
$88,000 to $65,000 for the trans yeah so that's
$65,000 for the trans yeah so that's that's a huge variable that now are you
that's a huge variable that now are you going to drag race it do you need axle
going to drag race it do you need axle upgrades do you need a diff do you need
upgrades do you need a diff do you need the diff stubs so um a in the like the
the diff stubs so um a in the like the 1,200 to 1500 horsepower range there
1,200 to 1500 horsepower range there could be a like an $80,000 difference in
could be a like an $80,000 difference in the bill depending on how much you build
the bill depending on how much you build it right right and so the stock trends
it right right and so the stock trends we had we had a race where it was tx2k a
we had we had a race where it was tx2k a couple years ago where uh Billy won
couple years ago where uh Billy won first and Ricky won second in the green
first and Ricky won second in the green right right uh Ricky went uh 217 I think
right right uh Ricky went uh 217 I think at that event that was on a completely
at that event that was on a completely stocked gearbox W with just a clutch his
stocked gearbox W with just a clutch his built one had an issue couldn't get it
built one had an issue couldn't get it back in time and so we had a stock gear
back in time and so we had a stock gear box said send it so they can do a lot
box said send it so they can do a lot it's not going to do it that many times
it's not going to do it that many times though what so that's the variable like
though what so that's the variable like do I go ahead and build it all now and
do I go ahead and build it all now and just be with that right or do I see how
just be with that right or do I see how far you know and it might go the whole
far you know and it might go the whole time you own the car and you sell it and
time you own the car and you sell it and you save $60,000 but it's going to break
you save $60,000 but it's going to break for somebody right so do you see a lot
for somebody right so do you see a lot you still you still see a lot of GTRs
you still you still see a lot of GTRs coming in
coming in or um the last two big GTR builds we had
or um the last two big GTR builds we had were both uh what I consider like a
were both uh what I consider like a perfect street car they were newer nmos
perfect street car they were newer nmos uh like, 1600 horsepower I mean a really
uh like, 1600 horsepower I mean a really really nice builds and that's that's
really nice builds and that's that's kind of the GTR stuff that's still
kind of the GTR stuff that's still coming in M the people that wanted to
coming in M the people that wanted to build a race GTR by this point have
build a race GTR by this point have already done it yeah so you know we
already done it yeah so you know we still have a bunch of race horse that we
still have a bunch of race horse that we maintain and update so we get even if
maintain and update so we get even if there's no GTRs coming in we always have
there's no GTRs coming in we always have GTR work to do every time we go to race
GTR work to do every time we go to race you know I've
you know I've got three or four of them that just live
got three or four of them that just live here at this point right and so in
here at this point right and so in between races they're getting whatever
between races they're getting whatever updates they need whatever maintenance
updates they need whatever maintenance they need so there's there's still
they need so there's there's still plenty of that GTO work but actual new
plenty of that GTO work but actual new builds coming in where do that much we
builds coming in where do that much we don't do I don't do any stock ECU stuff
don't do I don't do any stock ECU stuff everything's motch and so it's more race
everything's motch and so it's more race level builds that we're doing so even
level builds that we're doing so even even at the entry level it it'd be
even at the entry level it it'd be running a motch yeah technically so you
running a motch yeah technically so you have $50,000 and yeah and it's not
have $50,000 and yeah and it's not necessarily that you need a motch for
necessarily that you need a motch for that but I don't do any stock EC tuning
that but I don't do any stock EC tuning I have no interest in it um I could make
I have no interest in it um I could make the motch work better than I can make
the motch work better than I can make any stock EC work for either one of
any stock EC work for either one of these platforms um and I when you when
these platforms um and I when you when you know how good something can be yeah
you know how good something can be yeah and you're limited by something which I
and you're limited by something which I mean it only comes down to money right
mean it only comes down to money right right because the motch can go in there
right because the motch can go in there so if you're trying to save some money
so if you're trying to save some money and do that I'm not interested in doing
and do that I'm not interested in doing it interesting 50k so 50k and that's
it interesting 50k so 50k and that's just for the v10s not not for not for
just for the v10s not not for not for GTRs yeah GTRs you know you can go
GTRs yeah GTRs you know you can go really far with a V10 without going into
really far with a V10 without going into the motor trans okay the GTR if you know
the motor trans okay the GTR if you know if you want to lean on the motor you can
if you want to lean on the motor you can I don't really like doing that but I
I don't really like doing that but I mean you're still talking like maybe 750
mean you're still talking like maybe 750 8800 is kind of where I call it
8800 is kind of where I call it comfortable yeah versus uh on a B10 with
comfortable yeah versus uh on a B10 with our turbo kit and our setup I'm
our turbo kit and our setup I'm comfortable with it leaving at you know
comfortable with it leaving at you know 1450 1500 MH which blew my mind
1450 1500 MH which blew my mind originally right because we didn't know
originally right because we didn't know when I started getting into these we
when I started getting into these we didn't know how far we could go and it
didn't know how far we could go and it takes you know you have 15 cars out
takes you know you have 15 cars out there making 1,200 and somebody's like
there making 1,200 and somebody's like can we make more and you're like I mean
can we make more and you're like I mean probably right because none of these are
probably right because none of these are broken and so you just slowly go more
broken and so you just slowly go more and more and more um and with where we
and more and more um and with where we landed now we look back and go okay it's
landed now we look back and go okay it's really about torque right and it's
really about torque right and it's really about torque per Rod when when
really about torque per Rod when when we're talking about rods breaking yeah a
we're talking about rods breaking yeah a Lambo at at 1500 horsepower is making
Lambo at at 1500 horsepower is making about the same amount of torque per Rod
about the same amount of torque per Rod as a GTR at
as a GTR at 800 so you've got more rods and it revs
800 so you've got more rods and it revs higher so if you can carry that torque
higher so if you can carry that torque to high RPM you can make a lot more
to high RPM you can make a lot more horsepower so so as crazy as it seems
horsepower so so as crazy as it seems when you go back it's like huh it's
when you go back it's like huh it's actually it's actually not that
actually it's actually not that surprising yeah for a GTR entry what is
surprising yeah for a GTR entry what is that 50 is still 50k for that or it's
that 50 is still 50k for that or it's more money no I mean most people are
more money no I mean most people are building the engine on a GTR at this
building the engine on a GTR at this point because if they're going to come
point because if they're going to come into it they're going to build the
into it they're going to build the engine so yeah you're gon to if you said
engine so yeah you're gon to if you said I want
I want 800 you could probably get there at a
800 you could probably get there at a similar price point between the two
similar price point between the two platforms if you wanted um 1,00 it's
platforms if you wanted um 1,00 it's going to cost you more for a GTR okay
going to cost you more for a GTR okay and are you working on any other
and are you working on any other platforms that are that you're looking
platforms that are that you're looking for to make high horsepower with just
for to make high horsepower with just besides just these right now
besides just these right now uh we actually had a a meeting with
uh we actually had a a meeting with botch yesterday they've got there's a
botch yesterday they've got there's a bunch of new stuff in the works and uh
bunch of new stuff in the works and uh all the new cars not all a lot of the
all the new cars not all a lot of the new supercars are they're going to be
new supercars are they're going to be hybrids right so that makes things more
hybrids right so that makes things more difficult from a modification standpoint
difficult from a modification standpoint so with the new platform that motch has
so with the new platform that motch has coming um having a plug-and-play ECU kit
coming um having a plug-and-play ECU kit for a hybrid like you know some of the
for a hybrid like you know some of the newer Lamborghini stuff uh that's going
newer Lamborghini stuff uh that's going to be the diff anybody out there build a
to be the diff anybody out there build a nice Turbo System uh you can build a
nice Turbo System uh you can build a fuel system making it work right from
fuel system making it work right from the from the tuning standpoint that's
the from the tuning standpoint that's the difficult part and so once motch
the difficult part and so once motch comes in and there's a plug andplay
comes in and there's a plug andplay option now it's an open book so how many
option now it's an open book so how many more years do you think we have with
more years do you think we have with just uh I guess mechanical be versus the
just uh I guess mechanical be versus the EV stuff that we're as far as new cars
EV stuff that we're as far as new cars go not much like five maybe five
go not much like five maybe five years cuz he said I mean it's going to
years cuz he said I mean it's going to be both right but when it comes to like
be both right but when it comes to like a a high-end car that we want to modify
a a high-end car that we want to modify I think more and more of them are are
I think more and more of them are are going that way so I I won't be at all
going that way so I I won't be at all surprised if the new GTR is a hybrid so
surprised if the new GTR is a hybrid so they've got the M1 is the current ECU
they've got the M1 is the current ECU platform that we use right which is now
platform that we use right which is now more than 10 years old believe it or not
more than 10 years old believe it or not and it's still you like the gold box the
and it's still you like the gold box the m800 was leading the industry when it
m800 was leading the industry when it was even the m800 was dos software when
was even the m800 was dos software when it was released yeah so there's stuff it
it was released yeah so there's stuff it takes a while to come out but when it
takes a while to come out but when it comes out it's really good and stays you
comes out it's really good and stays you know it stays at the Forefront so the
know it stays at the Forefront so the new the new platform that's coming out
new the new platform that's coming out uh
uh is it's night and day better than what
is it's night and day better than what the M1 is capability wise processing
the M1 is capability wise processing wise input output uh communication wise
wise input output uh communication wise you know talking to these new cars with
you know talking to these new cars with different types of canb streams and
different types of canb streams and whatnot yeah um and so it's going to
whatnot yeah um and so it's going to open the door
open the door to to almost be able to do anything you
to to almost be able to do anything you know as far now it's going to take a lot
know as far now it's going to take a lot of engineering to to reverse engineer a
of engineering to to reverse engineer a car and and make a conversion kit or you
car and and make a conversion kit or you know an adapter kit but they have the
know an adapter kit but they have the engineering ability to do it and so if
engineering ability to do it and so if it's something you know that they see
it's something you know that they see enough sales potential for then right
enough sales potential for then right then it's it's possible and this is
then it's it's possible and this is going to shift over even for the newer
going to shift over even for the newer stuff like the the newer cars like maybe
stuff like the the newer cars like maybe if the GTR does come out with a hybrid
if the GTR does come out with a hybrid version or EV still be functional with
version or EV still be functional with that if the next GTR comes out and it's
that if the next GTR comes out and it's modifiable uh for sure it'll be a motch
modifiable uh for sure it'll be a motch motch will tackle that project cuz you
motch will tackle that project cuz you guys are going to so you guys are going
guys are going to so you guys are going to work with the GTRs even if they are
to work with the GTRs even if they are EV or whatever the new situation is most
EV or whatever the new situation is most likely yeah right I mean even if you
likely yeah right I mean even if you can't do anything to it right you can
can't do anything to it right you can put wheels on it put suspension on it I
put wheels on it put suspension on it I mean you know we've got such so much GTR
mean you know we've got such so much GTR clientele that they're going to want it
clientele that they're going to want it so yeah do you ever worry about how
so yeah do you ever worry about how that's going to be in the future though
that's going to be in the future though like maybe the
like maybe the next I would say let's say 10 years
next I would say let's say 10 years because five years is I don't you'll
because five years is I don't you'll still have customers coming in that
still have customers coming in that obviously will have v10s and maybe even
obviously will have v10s and maybe even some GTRs but what about 10 years from
some GTRs but what about 10 years from now when things shift over to EV do you
now when things shift over to EV do you ever worry about I do how that's going
ever worry about I do how that's going to affect your business yeah for sure um
to affect your business yeah for sure um you know there's two sides to that uh
you know there's two sides to that uh there's already people kind of doing
there's already people kind of doing some EV conversions right taking S2000
some EV conversions right taking S2000 and make it electric yeah and you know
and make it electric yeah and you know you can't argue with the performance of
you can't argue with the performance of a of a fast EV you know look at the
a of a fast EV you know look at the rimac and the Plaid the the new uh
rimac and the Plaid the the new uh they're fast I mean porsa has been
they're fast I mean porsa has been making Fast Cars for forever and their
making Fast Cars for forever and their highest horsepower and fastest car is
highest horsepower and fastest car is their electric car so you know the the
their electric car so you know the the potential is there and you know maybe
potential is there and you know maybe instead of I don't know that you're
instead of I don't know that you're going to modify a stock car and get
going to modify a stock car and get anything out of it yeah but there will
anything out of it yeah but there will be more and more I think uh
be more and more I think uh opportunities to convert cars or maybe
opportunities to convert cars or maybe make a rear wheel drive car all-wheel
make a rear wheel drive car all-wheel drive with a electric front drive so
drive with a electric front drive so there's always going to be something to
there's always going to be something to do but just I don't know what it'll be
do but just I don't know what it'll be 10 years from now yeah but you you'll
10 years from now yeah but you you'll always be involved basically that you're
always be involved basically that you're you'll always be tapped into what's
you'll always be tapped into what's coming out probably ahead of time
coming out probably ahead of time honestly if you're already working on
honestly if you're already working on some motc stuff you might already know
some motc stuff you might already know something that we don't we I mean we try
something that we don't we I mean we try to stay ahead yeah all right well um I
