0:01 hi this is AJ and it's time for secret
0:05 number four rule number four for
0:07 excellent English speaking now you've
0:10 learned three powerful ones already and
0:13 just using those three it's really going
0:16 to help your English speaking I think
0:19 you're going to enjoy learning English a
0:22 lot more but as I said it's a full
0:25 system so you really need to learn all
0:27 seven so let's learn number four today
0:30 secret number four is this learn
0:34 deeply learn
0:37 deeply what do I mean by that we have
0:41 this idea of wide and shallow you think
0:45 of water for example shallow water is
0:48 like this deep water is like an ocean
0:51 very very
0:52 deep so when we're talking about
0:55 learning something deeply it means you
0:57 totally learn it and master it
1:02 there's a great quote from a guy named
1:05 Tony Robbins which is this repetition is
1:08 the mother of
1:10 skill repetition is the mother of skill
1:14 means to be very skillful to be very
1:16 great at something you've got to repeat
1:19 it so many
1:21 times well that's basically what we're
1:23 talking about here learning something
1:26 deeply totally completely
1:31 once again it's the opposite of what
1:33 happens in school in most English
1:35 classes what happens in the normal
1:38 English class the normal English school
1:41 the traditional way of learning well you
1:44 go very very very fast right right
1:48 there's a lot of pressure to keep going
1:50 learning more more more and more right
1:53 because you have to finish the textbook
1:55 every teacher feels some pressure to
1:59 finish the
2:00 textbook in the correct time right we
2:04 have to finish the textbook this year so
2:07 next year we can do the next textbook
2:10 right we got to finish book number one
2:12 we got to do it quickly so that next
2:14 year we can do book two it would be
2:16 terrible not to finish book number one
2:19 this year that's the idea that they have
2:22 and it's totally crazy and wrong so
2:26 here's what happens every week or every
2:29 two weeks you're learning something new
2:32 in your English class new grammar for
2:36 example so you learn the past tense and
2:39 then two or three weeks later oh now
2:41 you're learning the the present perfect
2:44 and then a few weeks later now you're
2:46 learning the
2:47 future that is crazy there is no way you
2:51 can master and truly learn the past
2:54 tense for example in just a few
2:57 weeks even in just a couple of mon
2:59 months it's not possible and then you
3:02 start adding more and more and more and
3:04 more and of course all the vocabulary
3:07 lists more and more and more every week
3:09 another huge list of words to memorize
3:13 and there's all this pressure to go
3:14 faster faster faster so what happens of
3:17 course you study all this stuff for the
3:20 test you memorize it you memorize it you
3:23 take the test maybe you get a good grade
3:25 maybe you don't and then after the test
3:27 you forget a lot of it right right
3:30 because you never learned it deeply you
3:32 just memorized it short term and then
3:35 you forget a lot of it or maybe you
3:38 remember it but you can't use
3:41 it I know you know the past tense I know
3:45 you've studied it but do you always use
3:47 it
3:49 correctly if the answer is no if you
3:51 still make mistakes it's because you
3:53 never learned the past tense
3:57 deeply now I have no problem with the
3:59 past tense is it because I'm a genius no
4:02 of course it's because I learned English
4:04 as a small child and I mastered the past
4:08 tense how did I do it how did I learn it
4:10 so deeply through lots of
4:13 repetition my parents did not try to
4:15 teach me the present perfect or the
4:17 future Progressive or something when I
4:20 was very small no I heard the past tense
4:23 again and again and again every single
4:25 day hundreds of times a day thousands of
4:29 times a day
4:30 day until the past tense was so deep in
4:35 my mind I didn't need to think about it
4:39 anymore and I don't need to think about
4:41 it it's totally
4:43 automatic that is deep
4:47 learning that's what you need you need
4:49 to slow down and totally learn what you
4:54 are studying what you are listening to
4:56 you need to completely Master it to know
4:59 it
5:00 deep inside not just know it in you know
5:04 in your brain it's the same with
5:06 vocabulary you might know a word like if
5:10 I ask you the meaning you can tell me
5:11 the meaning but can you use it instantly
5:15 in a conversation a real
5:17 conversation if I say it in a
5:20 conversation do you instantly and
5:22 automatically understand it
5:25 completely if not you have not learned
5:28 it deeply
5:31 now you're beginning to understand why
5:33 you are having problems with English
5:35 speaking you may think you know a lot of
5:38 grammar and vocabulary but most of it
5:43 you do not know deeply it's not
5:47 automatic you have to think about
5:49 it so you have to change the way you
5:52 learn once again this is another secret
5:54 another rule something else you need to
5:56 change about the way you are learning
5:58 English
5:59 now the most basic way to do this is to
6:02 do the opposite of school so instead of
6:05 hurrying instead of trying to go fast
6:07 and new chapter all the time I want you
6:10 to do the opposite I want you to go
6:13 slowly for example when you buy our
6:18 lessons I will tell you that each lesson
6:22 set a lesson set has maybe four or five
6:25 connected lessons they about the same
6:27 topic I will tell you that you must
6:30 study that one lesson set at least 10
6:35 days to two
6:39 weeks maybe even more maybe three weeks
6:42 maybe one full month for a lesson
6:46 set why because I want you to repeat
6:49 that lesson every single day of course
6:51 you're listening with your ears so what
6:53 you're going to do is you're going to
6:55 listen to each of those lessons it's
6:57 about an hour total
7:00 every day you'll listen to those maybe
7:02 once maybe twice a
7:04 day the next day you'll listen to those
7:07 same audios again and the next day the
7:10 same audios again and the next day the
7:12 same audios again for 10 days 14 days 21
7:16 days more if necessary it's not a
7:21 race you don't need to hurry no what I
7:24 want you to do is to totally completely
7:27 learn it know it deeply
7:31 automatically and of course the way we
7:33 design our lessons there's also a lot of
7:36 repetition in the lessons so let's say
7:38 there are four or five different Audios
7:41 in that
7:42 set each of those audios is using some
7:45 of the same vocabulary a lot of the same
7:48 grammar so you hear it in one situation
7:52 then you hear it in another audio
7:53 article then you hear it in a kind of
7:55 funny crazy story then you hear it in
7:58 another situation so you're appearing
7:59 the same thing but in different
8:01 situations so it's not boring it's still
8:03 interesting but you're getting that
8:05 repetition so you will start to learn
8:08 the vocabulary and the grammar much more
8:12 deeply that's how our system is designed
8:16 it's very very
8:20 important so here's the thing you have
8:25 to do a lot of repeating focus on
8:28 repeating a lot
8:30 and doing a smaller amount of material
8:33 so instead of reading 20 books read one
8:36 book but read it slowly and well or a
8:38 better example is audio instead of
8:41 listening to 50 audios and watching 20
8:44 movies pick three audios and listen to
8:48 them every single day the same
8:51 audios for seven days 14 days 20 days
8:55 whatever lots and lots and lots of
8:57 repetition then the phrases will go into
9:00 your mind deeply the grammar will start
9:02 getting in there you don't need to think
9:04 about it it happens automatically the
9:06 new vocabulary if it's easy the new
9:08 vocabulary gets in there all of these
9:11 things go deeper deeper deeper each time
9:13 you listen until it becomes automatic
9:17 you don't need to translate you don't
9:19 need to think about it it will pop out
9:21 of your
9:23 mouth that is the power of deep learning
9:28 and it never stops it never
9:31 stops I'm still hearing every single day
9:35 the past tense in English so in a way
9:38 right I'm getting more repetition it
9:39 never stops I'll never stop as long as
9:41 I'm alive it's never ending it's the
9:44 same for you you never stop but you
9:46 listen to fun and interesting things so
9:48 the repetition is fun and interesting if
9:51 you're focusing on textbooks and schools
9:52 and grammar uh of course repetition is
9:55 difficult because it's painfully boring
9:59 but with our lessons for example you're
10:00 listening to funny crazy interesting
10:02 stuff so it's easy to repeat it 7 days
10:05 or 14 days or 20 days it's not a problem
10:08 and you can go out and you can find
10:09 other interesting audios and do the same
10:11 thing so here it is secret number four
10:14 rule number four very very important
10:17 learn
10:19 deeply repetition is the mother of skill
10:23 learn
10:25 deeply all right I will see you tomorrow
10:27 for secret number five have a great day
10:32 bye-bye
