0:26 two p r o p h tu.com and now Dr Warren
0:31 weby Matthew 5 and verse 9
0:35 our lord Jesus says blessed are the
0:38 peacemakers for they shall be called the
0:41 sons of
0:45 God if there's one thing that pains most
0:47 of us more than anything
0:49 else it is
0:54 this problem of personal
0:56 disagreement we come to God's house and
1:00 we shake hands and we smile and we sing
1:02 we talk to
1:05 people and yet deep down inside there
1:08 are discords and disagreements and sometimes
1:09 sometimes
1:13 divisions among God's people the
1:15 psalmist said behold how good and how
1:18 pleasant it is for Brethren to dwell
1:19 together in
1:22 unity now you expect Brethren to do this
1:24 but they don't always do
1:26 it all of us are concerned about this
1:29 matter of Peace not just on the international
1:30 international
1:34 level we pray for the Peace of Jerusalem
1:35 I hope you
1:38 do or on the national
1:41 level but in our homes and in our
1:42 offices and our [Music]
1:43 [Music]
1:46 jobs even in places of Christian
1:48 Ministry in the
1:51 church our heart's desire is that people
1:53 get along with each other I think
1:56 everybody here tonight sincerely wants
1:58 to be a peacemaker and not a troublemaker
2:02 now the Bible has a great deal to say
2:05 about peace I was amazed to discover
2:09 that there are nearly 400 verses in the
2:12 Bible directly related to
2:14 peace either International Peace at the
2:17 coming of Our Lord to this earth or
2:20 church peace or peace
2:23 among Brethren or peace among the tribes
2:26 of Israel the Bible has a great deal to
2:28 say about peace as you know when our
2:31 Jewish friends meet each other they say
2:34 shalom and Shalom is the Jewish word for
2:36 peace when they're going to leave each
2:38 other they say
2:40 shalom a Hebrew Christian friend of mine
2:42 says this proves that we don't know
2:44 whether we're coming or going but that
2:47 isn't the reason why they do it you see
2:50 in the Bible the word peace means much
2:53 more than the absence of
2:55 hostility in the Bible peace is a much
2:58 bigger word than just the cessation of War
2:59 War
3:02 when Jesus spoke these words there was no
3:03 no
3:07 war the Roman Empire had brought peace
3:10 but it was a piece that was built on a
3:12 clenched fist it was a piece that was
3:15 built on a sword in the tramping of
3:17 soldiers it was a peace that was built
3:21 on external compulsion and fear the
3:24 Bible word for peace doesn't mean that
3:27 the Bible word for peace shalom
3:30 means total well-being
3:33 and so when a Jewish friend says to his
3:36 friend Shalom he is saying much more
3:38 than may your mother-in-law not argue with
3:39 with
3:42 you he is saying much more than may your
3:44 customers not disagree with you he is
3:48 saying may you in body and mind and soul
3:52 and spirit have health and well-being
3:54 and may the whole atmosphere of your
3:57 life be creative in the Bible peace is a
4:01 positive thing it's a creative
4:04 Force you see you drive past um well
4:07 let's just take the Lincoln Park Lagoon
4:08 sometime in the middle of February
4:12 there's peace the water's not moving it's
4:13 it's
4:16 frozen or you drive past a cemetery
4:18 perfect peace in the
4:21 cemetery because uh people there are
4:24 dead that's not the kind of Peace the
4:26 Bible's talking about the the Bible is
4:28 talking about the kind of peace that is
4:30 created that that gives you an
4:32 atmosphere where you can grow and be
4:35 what God wants you to be it is a
4:39 positive force not just the negative
4:42 absence of fighting that's what Jesus
4:44 meant when he said blessed are the
4:46 peacemakers he wasn't talking about dead
4:49 people or Frozen people he was talking
4:51 about people who were so possessed of
4:54 the peace of God that they could go out
4:58 into a troubled world and be channels of
5:00 a positive
5:03 Force the kind of thing St Francis
5:06 prayed when he prayed Lord make me an
5:09 instrument of thy
5:11 peace now I think each of us wants to be a
5:12 a
5:15 peacemaker I can't conceive of anybody
5:18 in this Auditorium tonight saying to
5:20 himself I wonder what kind of trouble I
5:23 can cause this week I wonder what I can
5:26 say that'll mess things up in the office
5:27 I wonder what word I can drop at the
5:29 next committee meeting at the church
5:31 that will really blow things up I don't
5:33 think anybody thinks that
5:35 way I think most of the time you and I cause
5:36 cause
5:40 trouble unconsciously not deliberately
5:42 because we don't understand what the
5:44 word of God really has to say about
5:47 peace now there are four very basic
5:50 facts that you and I must grasp if we're
5:51 going to be
5:54 peacemakers if beginning tonight you
5:57 want to dedicate yourself to the
6:00 ministry of Peace it's a great ministry
6:03 these four facts must be uppermost in
6:06 your heart and mind fact number one the
6:10 source of peace is
6:15 God man cannot generate peace nature
6:18 cannot generate peace the source of
6:21 peace is God now I want to deal with
6:23 that in some detail because I think we
6:26 need this kind of basic
6:30 theology God's name is peace
6:32 back in the Old Testament one of the
6:36 Jehovah names is Jehovah Shalom the Lord our
6:38 our
6:41 peace six times in the New Testament
6:43 he's called the God of Peace I preached
6:46 on one of those passages this morning
6:48 now the God of Peace who brought again
6:50 from the dead our lord Jesus that great
6:53 Shepherd of the sheep God is the God of
6:55 Peace now follow me in this he is the
6:57 God of Peace as far as his name is
7:00 concerned and he's the god of peace as
7:03 far as his nature is concerned God's
7:05 nature is at
7:08 peace you say Pastor what in the world
7:09 do you mean by that well let's just talk
7:12 about your nature don't you have battles
7:15 down inside of course you do each of us
7:17 has characteristics that seem to
7:20 conflict with each other for example we
7:23 want to have friends but we also want to
7:25 please the lord and there are sometimes
7:27 when in order to please the Lord we have
7:28 to displease our friends there's a conflict
7:30 conflict
7:33 we have appetites we enjoy eating for
7:35 example I doubt that anyone here in this
7:37 meeting doesn't enjoy eating it's
7:39 sometime or another yet the doctor says
7:40 you better be careful you're gaining
7:42 weight or there's too much cholesterol
7:44 in your blood or something else and so
7:47 there's a conflict between a natural
7:49 instinct the desire to eat and the
7:52 discipline of taking care of the body I
7:54 think many of our problems stem right
7:55 from this conflict that we have down
7:58 inside of course then you get saved when
7:59 you get saved you get a brand new nature
8:01 down inside then you really start having
8:03 some conflicts because the flesh fights
8:05 against the spirit and the spirit fights
8:07 against the flesh this is not true of
8:10 God there are no conflicts in the nature
8:14 of God God if I may coin a phrase God is
8:18 at perfect peace with
8:20 himself now if he were not this universe
8:23 would fall apart there's no conflict
8:25 between his Holiness and his love
8:28 there's no conflict between his mercy
8:30 and his holiness there's no conflict
8:34 between his love and his
8:36 Justice thanks to the work of Jesus
8:39 Christ on the cross sin has been dealt
8:43 with but even before the Advent of sin
8:48 God as to his nature is perfectly at
8:51 peace there's no conflict now this peace
8:54 I would remind you is not the Peace of
8:57 complacency God is not asleep it's not
9:01 the Peace of the Frozen Lake rather his
9:04 peace is that creative peace where all
9:08 of his attributes work together and all
9:12 of his characteristics blend together in
9:14 Perfection and you'll thank God someday
9:17 we're going to be like that thank God
9:19 when Jesus Christ comes and we get a
9:22 brand new body suited to a brand new
9:26 home our nature will be at perfect peace
9:29 and so our God is the God of Peace as to
9:32 his name and as to his nature thirdly
9:35 he's the God of Peace as to his will now
9:37 there's one verse you ought to Mark in
9:42 your Bible it's Jeremiah 29 and verse 11
9:44 someday you're going to get discouraged
9:46 you're going to say God has declared war
9:51 on me no he hasn't Jeremiah
9:54 29:1 God speaks to you and says for I
9:56 know the thoughts that I think toward
9:59 you say the Lord thoughts of people
10:03 peace not of evil to give you an
10:06 expected end you know what this verse
10:09 says it says this that when God thinks
10:12 about you he thinks about peace and when
10:15 God works for you and works in you he's
10:19 working toward an expected planned end
10:21 that brings
10:24 peace God's will for this world is not
10:26 war oh if I could just get people to see
10:29 that God's will for your life is peace
10:31 you say well I haven't got very much
10:33 peace in my life that can't be God's
10:37 fault that has to be our fault God as to
10:39 his name and God as to his nature and
10:43 God as to his will is the God of Peace
10:44 now I want to go one step further and
10:47 illustrate it God is a God of Peace as
10:49 to his
10:53 working when God goes to work he works in
10:55 in
10:58 peace now right away someone says wait
11:00 just a minute I can't agree with that
11:02 all right what's your disagreement
11:04 preacher have you read the Old Testament
11:06 yes well have you read the way the the
11:09 the Hebrew armies moved in upon the
11:12 Canaanites you call that
11:14 peace why they wrecked cities and they
11:19 killed people you call that peace
11:22 yes because God's program when he works
11:26 is first peace and then War not war then
11:29 peace first peace and then War have you
11:31 ever read in the book of Deuteronomy
11:34 God's law of War for the Jewish
11:37 people maybe we better look at that
11:41 Deuteronomy CH 20 Moses is telling them
11:43 how to fight their battles when they go
11:47 into the promised land Deuteronomy 20 in
11:49 the first nine verses he tells them how
11:51 to take care of their army if anybody's
11:53 scared send them home anybody's engaged
11:55 or newly married send them home now
11:57 verse 10 of Deuteronomy
12:01 20 when when thou comest near unto a
12:06 city to fight against it then Proclaim
12:08 peace unto
12:11 it how about that first
12:14 peace and it shall be if it make thee an
12:18 answer of peace and open unto thee then
12:20 it shall be that all the people who are
12:24 found therein shall be bound servants
12:27 unto thee and they Shall Serve thee and
12:30 if it will make no peace with with thee
12:34 but will make war against thee then Thou
12:37 shalt besiege it every city that
12:41 declared war was
12:43 conquered now this is an interesting
12:45 thing God said to his people Proclaim
12:47 peace Proclaim peace if they won't
12:51 believe you then we have to have War now
12:53 someone says all right I'll accept that
12:55 you can blame the cities for that but
12:57 let's move over to the New Testament
12:58 have you ever stopped to think of all
13:01 the conflict that Christianity has
13:04 brought into this world yes our Jehovah
13:08 Witness friends have written a book that
13:11 they give away or sell telling how awful
13:14 Christianity is especially the doctrine
13:17 of the trinity in bringing all of this
13:19 conflict into the world now when you
13:22 read history you have to admit that the
13:23 Christian faith has brought conflict
13:27 into the world may I remind you that not
13:32 all Unity is good and not all division is
13:33 is
13:36 bad three times I read in the Gospel of
13:38 John about the Lord Jesus there was a
13:40 division because of him there was a
13:42 division because of him Paul went into a
13:44 city and there was a division because of
13:46 him look at the Gospel of Luke let's
13:49 talk about the Lord Jesus as the
13:52 minister of peace I'm saying this before
13:56 God declares war he always declares
13:58 peace he did it in the Old Testament he
14:01 did did it in the gospel look at Luke chap
14:07 2 in Luke chap 2 we have the
14:08 announcement of the birth of the Lord
14:12 Jesus Christ and we read in verse 14 the
14:14 angels as they are praising God and
14:18 saying glory to God in the highest and
14:23 on Earth peace Good Will toward men so
14:25 the Gospel of Luke begins with a
14:27 declaration of Peace the baby has been
14:30 born this is God's Declaration of peace on
14:31 on
14:35 Earth turn to Luke
14:38 12 and our Lord says something in verse
14:41 51 that is just a little bit devastating
14:43 I'm going to start in verse
14:48 49 our Lord says I am come to send fire
14:49 on the
14:51 earth the angel said he came to send
14:55 peace on the earth and what will I if it
14:58 already be kindled I have a baptism to
15:00 be baptized with and how I am
15:03 constrained till it be accomplished that
15:05 of course was his baptism of suffering
15:06 on the
15:10 cross suppose ye that I am come to give
15:11 peace on
15:14 Earth I tell you
15:18 no but rather division for from
15:20 henceforth there shall be five in one
15:23 house divided three against two two
15:25 against three and he spells it out in
15:28 verse 53 you see the luk Gospel of Luke
15:31 begins peace on Earth Jesus said I
15:39 Earth now why turn to Luke chapter
15:42 19 you see something happened between
15:44 the announcement of the angels and the
15:46 announcement of the
15:50 Savior Luke
15:52 19 verse
15:56 41 and when he was come near he beheld
15:59 the city and wept over it saying if thou
16:03 known even thou at least in this thy day
16:07 the things which belong unto thy peace
16:10 but now they are hidden from thine eyes
16:12 and he talks about the coming of the
16:14 armies to wreck the city of Jerusalem
16:18 why verse 44 the last sentence because
16:21 thou knewest not the time of thy
16:23 visitation the angel said peace on Earth
16:25 Jesus said I'm not going to bring peace
16:27 on Earth why you didn't know the day of
16:29 your visitation you've rejected did the
16:31 things that belong to your peace is
16:33 there peace anywhere yes look at Luke chap
16:35 chap
16:37 19 and verse
16:40 38 the crowd is praising the Lord as he
16:43 comes into the city blessed is the king
16:47 who cometh in the name of the Lord peace in
16:53 heaven isn't it good to know that though
16:55 there's no peace on Earth there's peace
16:57 in heaven you know why there's no peace
17:00 on Earth because a group of people one
17:04 day said we will not have this man to
17:07 reain over us oh but he's the Prince of
17:10 Peace we will not have him to Reign Over
17:13 us and so Jesus came and declared peace
17:15 they said we don't want you then God had
17:16 to declare
17:19 war that's what Paul meant over in 2
17:22 Corinthians 5 he said look our ministry
17:24 is a Ministry of
17:26 reconciliation I can never forget a man
17:28 coming in to see me when I was pastoring
17:30 in Kentucky very
17:34 distraught his wife was going to divorce
17:36 him and he was greatly concerned and
17:40 rightly so he said to me Pastor what my
17:44 wife and I need is a Rec
17:45 cancellation I said you mean a
17:47 Reconciliation he said I don't know what
17:49 I mean but that's what we need but the
17:51 more I thought about it the more sense
17:52 it made that's what they did need a Rec
17:54 cancellation if they just take all the
17:56 sins they' committed against each other
17:57 and cancel
18:00 them you see the Lord Jesus Christ came
18:02 to Earth and Men rejected his peace but
18:05 there's peace Up In Heaven There is
18:09 peace with God through the Lord Jesus
18:12 Christ so in the Old Testament first
18:15 peace then war in the New Testament
18:18 first peace then War Paul came into a
18:21 city and preached reconciliation peace
18:23 and they declared
18:26 war you see God can't force anybody to
18:29 be at peace with him
18:32 God is the source of all peace that's
18:35 his nature that's his name that's the
18:38 way he works that's his plan toward us
18:40 Jesus is the Prince of Peace he said to
18:43 his disciples my peace give I unto you
18:45 when he arose from the dead he said
18:49 Peace be unto you the holy spirit of God
18:51 generates peace the fruit of the spirit
18:54 is love and joy and peace and so the
18:57 source of peace is
19:01 God if you're trying to have peace and
19:03 you're leaving God out it won't work
19:06 which leads us to our second fact the
19:09 enemy of peace is
19:13 sin now it's obvious why sin is exactly opposite
19:16 opposite
19:19 God God is light and in him is no
19:22 Darkness at all and so if you try to mix
19:24 the light with the darkness it won't
19:28 work wherever there's sin there is war
19:30 now we're going to turn to the War
19:32 chapter of the
19:35 Bible James chter 4 I'm not going to
19:38 expound the whole chapter because that's
19:40 not necessary but I want to show you
19:43 something very basic James CH
19:47 4 from whence come Wars and fightings
19:49 among you and he's writing to Christians
19:53 not writing to the Israelis and the
19:56 Arabs he's not writing to Nations he's
19:59 writing to Christians said how is that
20:01 you Believers are fighting each other
20:04 come they not hear even of your
20:07 pleasures your lusts that war in your
20:10 members in your body ye lust and have
20:13 not ye kill and desire to have and
20:16 cannot obtain ye fight and War yet ye
20:18 have not because you ask not and ye ask
20:21 and receive not because you ask am miss
20:23 that you may consume it upon your lust
20:25 you adulterers and
20:28 adulteresses he's speaking in spiritual
20:31 language here know ye not that the
20:34 Friendship of the world is enmity with
20:38 God whosoever therefore Wills to be a
20:40 friend of the world is the enemy of God
20:43 now James says there are three Wars going
20:44 going
20:47 on verse one Christians are at war with
20:51 each other because they are at war with
20:54 themselves you know us that he said why
20:55 are you fighting among yourself because
20:57 there's fighting going on down inside
21:00 there's a war down in your members oh
21:03 but why is there a war down inside
21:04 because you're at war with God verse
21:08 four so here are three Wars going on
21:11 people fighting each other at war with
21:12 each other because they're at war with
21:14 themselves and they are at war with
21:22 God and the thing that causes this war is
21:23 is
21:26 selfishness Pride when you read the rest
21:29 of James chapter 4 he talks about submit
21:32 yourselves humble yourselves God resists the
21:39 proud you see Satan is the Incarnation
21:49 humility the world is the expression of
21:51 Pride the lust of the flesh the lust of
21:54 the eyes the pride of
21:56 life but the church ought to be the
21:59 expression of humility
22:02 and service you see God has three
22:03 enemies the World the Flesh and the
22:06 devil and they're all here the world
22:08 friendship with the world is enmity with
22:11 God the flesh your desires that war in
22:15 your members verse one the devil down
22:17 here in verse 7 resist the devil so here
22:20 are the enemies of God getting a hold of
22:22 the people of God and making them
22:25 selfish now don't forget this whether
22:28 it's in the front seat of my car
22:32 or at my dinner table or in a committee
22:34 meeting at Moody Church or any place
22:36 else if two Saints are at war with each
22:38 other I don't mean they disagree
22:41 lovingly they're at war with each other
22:44 somebody is
22:46 selfish if a husband and wife are at war
22:49 with each other somebody is
22:53 selfish and selfishness is born of Pride
22:56 and pride comes from the World the Flesh
23:00 and the devil so the source of all peace
23:04 is God and the enemy of all peace is
23:07 sin I want you to Mark a verse back in
23:09 the book of
23:12 Isaiah chapter 32 I didn't even know
23:15 this verse was in the Bible I'd been
23:16 reading the
23:18 Bible so many times since I'd gotten
23:21 saved I went off to Seminary remember
23:23 one evening a fell came knocking at my
23:26 door I open the door of the Seminary uh
23:29 my dormatory room and fell said I want
23:31 to show you a verse what kind of a cook
23:33 is this he interrupts my studying to
23:36 show me a verse you know he said have
23:39 you ever seen Isaiah 32:1 17 I said sure
23:41 he said what's it says I don't
23:44 know so Ralph said let me show it to
23:48 you Isaiah 32:17 and the work of
23:50 righteousness shall be
23:53 peace and the effect of righteousness
23:56 quietness and Assurance forever if you
23:58 want peace and quietness and Assurance
24:00 it comes from
24:03 righteousness so wherever there's sin
24:05 there's going to be a fight sin breeds
24:09 pride pride breeds sin Pride breeds
24:12 selfishness selfishness breeds more sin
24:14 and there's a war on the inside because
24:17 there's a war between me and God and if
24:19 I'm fighting God and fighting myself I'm
24:26 you and the only answer of course is
24:30 cleansing which lead is the fact number
24:33 three the source of all peace is
24:37 God the enemy of all peace is
24:42 sin the minister of peace is the
24:44 Christian oh how many times we've said
24:46 Oh Holy Spirit work in his heart so
24:48 he'll get along with me you ever pray
24:52 like that oh Lord change his
24:55 mind I'm beginning to learn little by
24:59 little I'm so slow to learn something
25:00 but I'm beginning to learn little by
25:03 little that when I pray about people I
25:05 need to pray about
25:08 myself it's not enough for me to pray oh
25:10 God may this person agree with me change
25:13 his mind I need to pray oh God help me
25:16 to be more patient and more loving and
25:19 more understanding maybe if I really
25:22 knew what he's going
25:25 through I'd be more understanding of
25:26 what he's
25:29 saying it's hard to pray like like that
25:30 it's much EAS easier to bounce your
25:32 prayers off the clouds and Ricochet and
25:36 hit the guy you know Lord take care of
25:40 him God doesn't do it that way the
25:42 minister of peace is the Christian
25:43 that's what Jesus meant when he said
25:45 blessed are the peac makers not the
25:49 peace talkers we have a lot of those not
25:51 the not the peace prayers but the
25:54 peacemakers the people who do something
25:56 blessed are the peacemakers for they
25:59 shall be called the children of God now
26:01 before I was saved I was not a
26:03 peacemaker you want to know what you
26:05 were like before you were saved if you
26:08 ever get proud of your ancestry just
26:10 turn to Titus Chapter
26:16 3 here's what it says in verse three for
26:20 we ourselves also were once
26:24 foolish disobedient deceived serving
26:27 various lusts and Pleasures living in
26:32 Malice and Envy hateful and hating one
26:34 another that's the unsaved
26:38 person but he says after the kindness
26:40 and love of God our savior toward man
26:43 appeared not by works of righteousness
26:45 but according to his Mercy he saved us
26:47 before I was saved I couldn't be a
26:50 peacemaker my nature was such that I
26:52 couldn't make peace God is the source of
26:55 peace unless I have God's nature I can't
26:57 be a
26:59 peacemaker and the only way to get God's
27:02 nature is to be born into God's
27:05 family now you say but I'm in God's
27:07 family does anybody call you a child of
27:10 God you see children are like their
27:12 parents you go to see relatives you
27:14 haven't seen for a long time this
27:16 happened to me this past week I saw some
27:19 children I hadn't seen in
27:21 years I took one look at the girl I said
27:24 I Know Who You belong to sure enough
27:26 that's who it was looks just like her mother
27:28 mother
27:31 now that should be true of us out in the
27:34 world we should so be making peace that
27:36 people say you know he must belong to
27:38 God he must be in God's family you know
27:40 God's a Great Peacemaker and he must be
27:42 in God's family he's a child of God by
27:46 the way he acts in the way he lives the
27:48 minister of peace is the Christian now
27:50 turn back to Matthew I want to show you
27:51 how this works I'm not going to preach
27:54 abstractions tonight I want to preach
27:58 the concrete responsibility that we have
28:03 look at verse 21 of Matthew chap
28:05 5 ye have heard that it was said by them
28:08 of old Thou shalt not kill and whosoever
28:10 shall kill shall be in danger of
28:12 judgment but I say unto you that
28:13 whosoever is angry with his brother
28:15 without a cause shall be in danger of
28:17 judgment whoever shall say to his
28:21 brother raika empty fellow empty-minded
28:24 fellow shall be in danger of the councel
28:26 whoever shall say thou fool shall be in
28:29 danger of Hellfire there therefore if
28:31 thou bring thy gifts to the altar you're
28:33 going to church now and there remember
28:35 that thy brother hath anything against
28:37 thee leave thy gift before the altar
28:40 don't try to worship like that and go
28:43 thy way first be reconciled to thy
28:46 brother then come and offer thy gift now
28:48 one of the greatest pieces of advice in
28:50 the world is in verse 25 agree with
28:53 thine adversary
28:55 quickly do it as soon as you can if
28:58 there's a disagreement between brother
29:00 and brother husband and wife parents and
29:03 children as soon as possible settle it
29:05 Be The Peacemaker he doesn't say when
29:06 you go to the Altar and remember your
29:08 brother has something against you pray
29:11 for him he says leave your gift go see
29:14 your brother the vertical worship of God
29:16 is useless if the horizontal fellowship
29:19 with man is
29:22 broken so the first pieace making I
29:25 ought to do is between me and my
29:27 brother our Lord says the same thing in
29:28 Matthew 8
29:30 if your brother has ought against you go
29:32 tell him about it if he won't hear you
29:34 take one or two if he won't hear them
29:37 tell the church do your utmost to be a
29:39 peacemaker if he still doesn't want to
29:41 give in and make things right then you
29:43 can treat him like a Publican and a
29:44 sinner there's some people you can't be
29:46 at peace with Paul wrote to the Romans
29:48 and said as much as lith in you live
29:50 peacefully with all men which means
30:02 The Sermon on the
30:05 Mount he talks about an eye for an eye
30:08 and a tooth for a tooth verse
30:11 38 he says that turn the other cheek
30:15 don't be out causing trouble verse 43
30:17 Thou shalt love thy neighbor and hate
30:19 thine enemy but I say unto you love your
30:21 enemies bless them that curse you do
30:23 good to them that hate you pray for them
30:25 who despitefully use you and persecute
30:28 you why that you may be the sons of God
30:30 he's talking here in a practical way
30:32 about getting along with people and how
30:34 do you do it you go to people and you
30:36 try to settle things in a sweet and loving
30:37 loving
30:40 way the minister of peace is the
30:44 Christian quickly one final
30:48 truth the source of all peace is God the
30:50 enemy of all peace is
30:52 sin the minister of peace is the
30:54 Christian right now I am either a
30:58 peacemaker or a troublemaker
31:05 peace is becoming more like
31:07 God blessed are the peacemakers for they
31:11 shall be called the children of God he's
31:13 just like his
31:15 father what has God been doing all these
31:19 centuries Making Peace Jesus made Peace
31:21 by the blood of his
31:24 cross therefore being justified by faith
31:27 we have peace with God so when you
31:30 become a Peacemaker you're moving into
31:32 the territory where God is working God
31:35 is a peacemaker Jesus said either you
31:38 gather with me or you're scattering now
31:41 I'm a gatherer I put things together
31:43 says Jesus the devil's a scatterer he
31:45 tears them
31:47 apart and so the blessing of being a
31:52 peacemaker is growing in
31:54 godliness would you go back to the
31:56 Beatitudes as we close and just review
31:57 them with me I want you to show you
31:59 What's Happening
32:01 Here in verse three is where it all
32:04 starts my attitude toward
32:07 myself Blessed Be are the poor in spirit
32:09 theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven my
32:12 attitude toward my sin blessed are they
32:15 that mourn mourn over their sin they
32:18 shall be comforted my attitude toward
32:21 God's Authority blessed are the meek for
32:23 they shall inherit the
32:26 earth verse 6 what's the result of all
32:28 this if I'm poor in Spirit if I mourn
32:31 over my sin if I submit myself to God
32:33 blessed are they which do hunger and
32:35 thirst after righteousness they shall be
32:38 filled now it changes in verse 7 from
32:41 getting to giving if we have received
32:43 the righteousness of God through faith
32:46 in Christ what's the result verse 7
32:49 blessed are the merciful they shall
32:51 obtain Mercy blessed are the pure in
32:55 heart they shall see God Mercy Purity
32:58 blessed are the peacemakers they shall
33:00 be called the children of god notice in
33:03 verse 8 you have Purity in verse 9 you
33:06 have peace now James says the same thing
33:08 James says the wisdom that comes from
33:11 above is first pure then Peaceable the
33:14 Bible doesn't teach peace at any price
33:16 the Bible doesn't teach whitewashing sin
33:19 Jeremiah said they say peace peace when
33:21 there is no peace they've whitewashed a
33:24 tattering wall that's about to fall down
33:27 nowhere in the Bible is there peace at
33:29 any price
33:32 rather he says when there's Purity
33:34 there's peace that's why we have blessed
33:36 are the pure in heart leading into
33:39 blessed are the peace makers now I want
33:41 to warn all of
33:44 us when you become a peacemaker you
33:46 become more like the Lord Jesus you know
33:53 suffer you'll be
33:57 crucified there never was peace without sacrif
34:02 rice this is why some of us don't want
34:05 to be peacemakers we'd rather be
34:07 troublemakers it costs too
34:11 much have you ever known the quiet Agony
34:15 of living with the unkind accusations of
34:17 people you tried to
34:20 help Jesus lived with
34:23 that when you try to be a peacemaker and
34:25 you stand between two Waring factions
34:28 you get shot at from both sides
34:30 that's what happened to
34:32 Jesus but you know what makes us more
34:39 Lord blessed are the peacemakers for
34:43 they shall be called the children of God
34:45 does anybody call us God's children
34:49 because we are ministers of
34:52 peace now if I speak tonight to one
34:55 unsaved person you don't know a thing
34:58 about this peace
35:00 either peace with God or peace with
35:03 yourself or peace with others and the
35:04 only way you can know it is through
35:07 faith in Christ if I speak to a Believer
35:09 who doesn't have
35:13 peace it's probably because of some sin
35:14 in our
35:17 lives for the wisdom that comes from
35:20 above is first pure then Peaceable and
35:24 the man who is The Peacemaker has Purity
35:26 in his heart his motives are pure his
35:30 Outlook is
35:34 pure and usually he suffers for
35:38 it I think most of us would rather
35:41 suffer in creating
35:44 peace than to suffer later on because we
35:46 declared war I would rather go through
35:48 life building bridges than building
35:52 walls and digging fox holes oh there's a
35:54 price to pay but you know someday when
35:57 we Face the Lord Jesus
35:59 and he can look down upon us and say you
36:00 know you were a
36:03 peacemaker there was trouble in that
36:05 home but you brought peace there was
36:07 division in that committee but you
36:10 brought peace there were problems in
36:12 that neighborhood but you brought peace
36:13 you paid for it but now I'm going to pay
36:16 you back here's your
36:18 reward and the greatest reward of all is
36:22 just simply being more and more and more
36:25 like the Lord
36:28 Jesus father each of us in one way or
36:30 another has
36:35 failed forgive us may we go from this
36:38 place determined by your Holy
36:41 Spirit to be instruments of
36:44 Peace teach us the difference between
36:46 conviction and
36:49 stubbornness between our own ideas and
36:51 the mind of
36:54 God between shallow sentiment and true Christian
36:56 Christian
36:59 love help us not to compromise where
37:01 compromise would be
37:04 sin we would not like to be like pilate
37:06 and Herod who were made friends together
37:09 because they had a common
37:11 enemy we read in your word that at the
37:14 cross righteousness and peace kissed
37:17 each other and we would experience that
37:19 in our own
37:23 lives oh God may we be at peace with
37:27 ourselves and with you that we might be
37:29 instrument struments of peace with
37:32 others this is our prayer through Christ Our
37:34 Our Lord
