my name is Alfred Hurley I'll be at the
mle office um in [Music]
Tyson's I went to University of Kentucky
for a medical school and then in my
general medicine training I was in South
Carolina Greenville South Carolina and
then for Cardiology was in Milwaukee
then West Virginia for my focal
Interventional procedural Based training
um and then my first job was in Delaware
before essentially uh moving to Northern
Virginia in my last job I worked on
emergent heart attacks so I did the
minimal invasive procedures where you'd
open up blockages I worked on periphal
arterial disease where we opened up
blockages in the legs for people who had
pain um for limb Salvage people who had
Gang Green and were at risk for
amputations um and it was during that
job that I actually first got exposed to
veins so I worked in the deep vein
system putting stance as well as a
superficial vein system where we treated
[Music]
insufficiency so like I kind of
mentioned earlier um uh you know and I I
find this is actually a very common
thing in medical training especially at
the time that I was training Venus inici
was not something that was widely
focused on um obviously you learned
about it but it definitely wasn't um a
point of of of focus um and it was
actually after working and managing vein
patients um it was just it it was wild
how all of my patients had the same
story where they had pain for years and
years and years unresolved no answer at
all and Ne just by by a random ad on a
computer or TV or they happen to be
seeing a doctor that had some
familiarity with it they would end up
with us and we'd do a very simple
procedure and literally years of I hate
saying like the suffering you know they
magically had Improvement a better
quality of life and they were extremely
extremely um uh grateful you know Ju
Just for something small I feel like
that we were doing um made a big
difference in our life [Music]
[Music]
yeah so CVR um I mean it's just kind of
a perfect fit so I've been with Center
for vascular medicine um for the past
year um where we focus on the deep vein
system um working with Mayers or
compression in the more Central veins um
pelvic congestion syndrome and um
treating that kind of links directly to
what we do with Center for vein
restoration where we're managing the
veins and the legs The Superficial veins
um and there's so much crossover and overlap
overlap
um and what's actually very familiar
with me is taking a very comprehensive
approach to treatment so by joining
Center for vein restoration I get to see
kind of a more complete full patient and
manage that patient on on both ends of
it um and you know I think it's
important uh from a patient standpoint
but also a provider
standpoint that continuity as far as
position I think there's there's value
in that as well so it's just a kind of a
perfect fit and and and works in seamlessly
something very important to me um is
patient education um and it sounds kind
of cliche but kind patient empowerment
um you know I I think very commonly in
medicine I would uh see patients um and
you know they when you kind of go
through their history there are plenty
of times where they're um have no idea
why they're seeing me in the first place
and this is even from a cardiologist
standpoint in my my past life um uh and
as a procedur list um very commonly you
end up seeing a patient in the hospital
and they have no idea what's about to
happen what is about to be done um so I
I make it a priority of mine to make
sure patients have at least a good
understanding or even a a visual an
image of what it is we're even looking
at why we're looking at it what to
expect as an improvement um and then you
know when they make that transition from
seeing us in office to the procedure
that it's not coming out of nowhere um
they I never want them to leave with the
impression that oh the doctor's just
doing this to me no there's actually a
very specific reason and a specific
thing we're trying to achieve and
everything we're trying to do so I I do
try to take the time to kind of explain
all those things and you know it's
always a lot of information for patient
to process and digest in one setting but
again in trying to paint the picture and
knowing that you're going to repeat
these things from me to all of our staff
from in the office as well as in the
procedure Arena they're going to hear
these things multiple times So
eventually you know it kind of builds up
over time it all starts with that kind
of more comprehensive explanation of [Music]
things you know the way I think of
referring Physicians is the same way I
think in the hospital as a consultant is
you know usually when um people are
reaching out to you it's because there's
a need um and as primary providers
there's a lot on the plate and a lot of
different movement parts and things they
have to manage and so we take that
responsibility um very seriously and we
want people to feel free to send patient
to us and know that we're going to guide
treatment from start to finish and even
if we're not doing the treating we're
getting them to the place that they need
to be um and so we want people to feel
that freedom and that levity of that
relieve that weight of just be able to s
in patient to us and just kind of take
care and handle of it so um we do take
that responsibility very seriously [Music]
