monos make some of the best hard-sided
carry-ons and dare I say Luggage in
General on the market recently I gave a
thorough review of seven of the top
hard-sided carryon luggage Brands out
there and the winner by far was the
monos carryon since making that video
I've gotten tons of questions from you
guys about the different carry-on
options monos offers because there's a
lot and it's kind of confusing so I
wanted to make this video to compare and
explain the differences between all six
hey guys Nick here from away together in
this video I'm going to give an in-depth
overview of all of mono's carryon
options I'll talk about the differences
between each of them pack them so you
can see the capacity differences and
give you some tips on which option might
be right for you and depending on the
timing of this video there could be some
great sales going on so make sure you
check out the description below for
links to any deals let's dive in now
before I show you each individual bag
let me give you a refresher of why I
think mono bags are great and honestly
why my wife Ally and I chose monos
carons as our main luggage for 6 months
of full-time travel monos bags feature a
durable and weather resistant
polycarbonate shell which is functional
aesthetic and keeps your clothes dry in
pouring rain when it comes to Rolling
these bags on a flat surface the 360°
spinner wheels are quite possibly the
quietest I've ever heard and from a
durability standpoint even through about
4 months on cobblestones in Europe they
held up with without issue a highlight
of this bag for me is the telescoping
handle which has two things I really
like first the button is on the UND side
which is more ergonomic and secondly the
tubing is set at 45° angles which
eliminates that side to side handle
shake you often encounter with
telescoping handles that handle is also
well-sized for sliding your personal
item bag over now the proportions of
this bag are very balanced which makes
for Easy carry and internally there's
all sorts of great features and Extras
like a compression pad leather
compression straps and great internal
pockets for organization and
compartmentalization the company as a
whole seems to have a high commitment to
Quality and their bags have undergone
serious testing in R&D like they put
these bags through a battery of like 40
quality tests they look good feel good
and they work very well okay everything
I just said applies to every bag I'm
going to show you today now let's into
the different bags okay so monos has six
different carry-ons and maybe it's
because of the naming maybe it's just me
but I think it can be slightly confusing
which one is which and to understand how
they're actually different and which one
might be right for you so to make this
simple I'm going to segment this review
in two ways to hopefully make things
less confusing first we'll talk about
size and then we'll talk about type each
mono's carryon is offered in two
different sizes carryon and carryon Plus
the carry-on size measures at the
average carryon size allowance for most
airlines in the world 22 in by 14in by 9
in this range of course varies by airlin
so do your research before your trip
it's about a 40 L internal capacity and
it weighs around 7 lb mono says this
carry-on size is designed for trips
ranging from 2 to 5 days in length
packing this bag I was able to fit
everything I would need for about 7 days
a week's worth of tops socks and undies
workout gear second pair of pants
toiletries running shoes and a jacket
adding about 8 L of internal capacity
the carry-on plus measures in at 23 in x
15 in x 9 1/2 in and it'll fit in the
luggage sizers of many domestic US
Airlines it's still just barely over 7
lb and mono says this bag is designed
for trips ranging from 3 to 7 Days in
length now this bag is actually the one
Ally and I traveled for 6 months with
throughout Europe and Asia we took over
33 flights with these bags and even
though they were definitely oversized
and no question overweight for most
international flights we only had to
check them like twice your mileage may
vary and I'm not encouraging you to do
that necessarily but we took that extra
little bit of space and used it to pack
for multiple seasons and climates for
half a year of full-time travel now
knowing what I know now and now that
apparently YouTube thinks I'm a luggage
reviewer if I had to pack for that trip
again I would make it work with just a
carryon but I can comfortably vouch for
the carryon plus and I would say in the
end think about the length of your trip
and if the extra stuff you need is worth
potentially having to check your bag the
carryon is a safer bet for international
travel but I think you could probably
make it work with either one okay those
are the two sizes now let's move on to
the different types of bag there are
three types of mono carry-ons classic
Pro and hybrid the classic series is the
award-winning series that put them on
the map and these are the ones that I
was just showing you they feature the
durable polycarbonate amazing reverse
coil YKK zippers built-in TSA approved
lock the handle I was showing you all
the built-in organization excellent
quality durable minimalist luggage that
looks great and just works I'm a big fan
now like I explained it comes in two
sizes here's what those look like side
by side in the classic series the second
type is the Pro Series the mono carry-on
pro has everything I just mentioned but
it also features a built-in front
compartment for easy access to travel
Essentials like your laptop it fits up
to a 16inch laptop and has several other
dividers and mesh pockets for
organization of items like cables and
snacks and other things that you may
want quick access to on a long haul
flight this is where I'd keep things
like my eye mask my light jacket my
headphones stuff like that hey if you're
getting value out of this video I would
love it if you would hit that like
button so YouTube will know to suggest
it to other Travelers like you thank you
one thing I really like about the pro is
that the pocket is made of the same
Aerospace polycarbonate that the rest of
the case is made of I've seen a lot of
cases use some other material and I like
that this one is just the same the YKK
zippers also have a spot for you to put
a lock on that front pocket if desired
now the pocket eats at least a couple
liters of the internal capacity so when
packing this bag you may have to
sacrifice a little bit to accommodate
obviously this bag is great for business
Travelers or for someone who just wants
to have their laptop with them the third
type of carryon offered by monos is the
hybrid series metal luggage is really
cool but it's also really expensive and
pretty heavy mono's hybrid luggage
series addresses both of those two
problems offering the look and added
durability of aluminum luggage without
the added heft or Price Tag the hybrid
series combines a metallic finished
polycarbonate shell with anodized
aluminum Corner guards to make a
virtually unbreakable case it includes
all the same great mono features with
the handle and the wheels but with an
awesome theft deterrent upgrade no
zipper the frame is aluminum securely
riveted to the polycarbonate shell and
when you latch the two TSA combo lock
shut it's a completely airtight seal and
these bags are gorgeous I've used an
aluminum bag by another company before I
liked it but the problem was it's so
heavy this hybrid carryon is nowhere
near as heavy as that it's a really
really cool option okay three types of
bags classic Pro and hybrid and they
each come in two sizes carryon and
carryon plus so which one of these six
is right for you well a few things you
want to consider first function the
easiest question to answer is do you
want a pocket for your laptop or for
other things that you'd like quick
access to if the answer is yes yes then
I would go toward the pro series if you
want an awesome durable piece of
polycarbonate luggage with all the
amazing things I already mentioned but
you don't want a pocket I think the
classic series is great and I still use
those bags regularly if you're
interested in a zipperless theft
deterrent design with added durability
without the high price of aluminum
luggage then I would check out the
hybrid series the next thing you want to
think about is weight the benefit of the
classic carryon or classic carryon plus
is that when compared side by side with
the pro or hybrid counterparts even
though the external dimensions of these
bags are all the same the classic series
offers more packing capacity while using
less weight than those other bags I
mapped this out in a spreadsheet and on
average the Pro Series in either size is
about a pound heavier than the classic
and the hybrid is about 2 lbs heavier
make sure you consider weight when
you're making that decision the third
thing to consider is size when
considering which size to bring just
think about the typical length of your
trip how many outfits you're going to
need to bring with you and how small
your stuff packs personally my
recommendation is if you do a lot of
international travel on International
carriers and you want to carry on I
think the carry on is what you should go
for because you'll just have less hassle
if you're domestic only or you just need
this size of bag and are okay checking
if required then the carryon plus is
going to give you a little extra room
enough for an extra pair of shoes maybe
a couple of extra tops Maybe another
light jacket which size are you going
with or if you have a monos bag already
which one do you have and what do you
think of it big thanks to monos for
partnering with me to make this video I
sure hope it was of value to you and if
you're in the market for a great piece
of carryon luggage make sure to check
