You whisper, "I'm so tired." Like it's a
secret you hope the sky won't hear. But
you never truly rest, do you?
You don't sleep. You stall. You don't
exhale. You delay. You tuck yourself
beneath blankets like burial shrouds.
But your soul still paces the corridors
of your skull long after your body has surrendered.
surrendered.
You ache for silence.
And yet you lace your hours with noise
as though quiet might expose something
inside you that you're not ready to
meet. You run from your own mind as if
it were a house on fire. But the flames
are just memories asking to be held.
Darling wanderer, you are not escaping
your thoughts. You are building altars
to them. In every unfinished
conversation, in every skipped breath,
in every moment, you chose motion over mercy.
mercy.
You think rest must be earned. But rest
is not a prize. It is a birthight. You
are made for stillness, too. The tide
does not apologize when it retreats. The
moon does not explain herself when she
waines. Why do you? You keep folding
your pain into origami excuses.
There's too much to do. I'll rest when
I'm done. It's not that bad. But I see
you. I see the way your thoughts gnaw
through the walls at night. I see how
you look for softness in places that
keep cutting you. I see how you offer
yourself to the fire again and again.
Then wonder why you keep waking up in
smoke. Come now,
lay down. Not just your body, but your
guilt, your shame, your fear of what
rest might unravel. You're not lazy for
needing peace. You're not broken for
being weary. You're not weak for pausing
the war inside you. Let your mind
uncoil. Let your breath become a
lullabi. Let the darkness hold you like
something it never meant to hurt. You
say you're tired, so be tired. Be still.
And let the healing begin in all the
places you refuse to look. Sometimes the
most courageous thing you can do is fall
gently into the arms of your own stillness
