The US Grand Prix was a dramatic race where Max Verstappen secured a crucial victory, significantly narrowing the championship gap to his rivals, while Lando Norris achieved a strong second-place finish after a hard-fought battle.
It's race day in America. Round 19 of
the Formula 1 World Championship has
already seen dramatic moments of huge
consequence. McLaren didn't score in the
sprint and Max Stappen's dream of five
world championships in a row is
The US Grand Prix is underway. Max
Stappen gets the launch off the line
that he needs and chops to the inside
line. Orlando Norris P2 wide line for
Llair. Can he get past? Can he use the
traction of the soft tire? He's
positioned the car well. He's going to
get to the inside. He's going to get
second position. Oscar Pastry has gained
a place. He is up to fifth. And now look
at the fire up of that soft tire for
second place. But it's Max Stappen who
gets the lead. Lewis Hamilton finds
himself up to fourth. Losing a couple of
positions was George Russell. It's
Vstappen, Llair, Norris, Hamilton,
Pastry, and George Russell the leading
line. Back to the start of the Grand
Prix, and we had a key move made by
third place Charl. Yeah, he got you can
see the actual juttering of the rear
axle coming off with the rubber lines
for Vistappen, but Charleslair sends it
around the outside line, exploits the
performance of those tires on the axle
down the hill. Russell was very cautious
from fourth on the grid. Didn't really
have anywhere to go. obviously aware of
Nikico Hulenberg causing that incident
or being part of that incident.
>> Alex Alburn had good pace yesterday,
scored points in the sprint but went
beyond track limits. This was at the
start of the race and he made contact
with Gabriel Bortletto. That's why he
was at the back of the field.
>> And we know that Williams is rapid. Here
go signs to the inside.
>> He loves this move. We've seen it
before. We see it again. P8 for Carlos.
Carlos Hines pulling out of the race on
lap seven and it had been a brilliant
weekend for him. He was trying to make
it even better. The driver who started
in third position trying to get past
Kimmy Antonelli.
So SCS looking for another special to
the inside. Antelli not seeing it coming
and Antelli spat off into the barriers.
Carlos SC with contact that ends his
brilliant run in Formula 1 races
recently and he retires from the race.
took me out.
>> Yeah, copy. Saw that, mate.
>> Well, he was telegraphed it, didn't he?
Let's have a look on board with with
science. Then the move that he's already
achieved. Got a little bit of turning to
do. So, he loses ground there. Goes down
the inside, gets halfway along.
>> Sorry guys, there Anthony just turned it
there at the end.
>> He needs this move and he's in a great
position. This is the closest he's been
since the opening lap. Half a second as
we build up to 200 mph. He'll get the
benefit of the DRS. The Ferrari under
real threat now. Can Norris place the
car and improve up to second position?
He's going to need to force thelair wide
and then try and go the long way round
into turn 13. Nothing between the two of
them and no way by at the moment. Can
Norris pinch to the inside? He's got no
way by and he's still third. You uh you
can see all his thoughts actually as
he's trying to position the car to find
his way. But I think he just maybe
lacked confidence on the brakes because
it felt like he could have a dive.
>> This looks more promising if you are a
McLaren or Lando Norris fan. It's 4/10
of a second, 3/10 of a second coming
down all the time. The Ferrari goes to
the inside. It will be outside line for
Lando Norris. Can he be brave enough to
go around the outside? No. But he forces
the Ferrari deep. Now, does he go to the
inside? You could see the thought
process there. He wanted the inside
line. He doesn't get it. and he's
shuffled wide bylair as this battle continues.
continues.
Huge moment in the race for Shalair and
Lando Norris. Lando Norris again on the
outside line, but this time he's passed
to second position. Lando Norris gets it
stopped and he's in second place.
They're laughing next to me. And the
reason why is he nearly pulled on the handbrake.
handbrake.
>> He was It was the handbrake turn at the
end just to make sure he kept it on the
track. He would have been warned about
track limits. That looked like we were
going to see a flash of Scarlet to the
inside there, but he keeps the place.
Crucial move. He's made it.
>> I know you're busy. We just had our
third strike. Track limits turn 13. We
think you were pushed off, but we've had
a black and white flag, so be careful.
>> I know. I know. I know. I know. I know.
>> Hamilton's quicker. He's going to have
DRS right now. I don't think Charles is
going to overly defend it. So, Charlotte
on the inside watching two moves at the
same time. Alburn's made a bold one on
the left hand side of your picture. The
two Ferraris are scrapping on different
tires. Expiring softs for Charlotte.
>> I was wrong, wasn't I?
>> Oh, there's nothing between them as they
make their way through. Hamilton is not
going for the pinch to the inside. Can
he make better use of the traction now?
He can't get by. And they did fight each
other, DC. Yeah, I think Hamilton will
be getting frustrated because he'll be
looking at big picture stuff. You know
what? What can we do for the team here?
Well, that explains it. Heading in.
Sensible choice for Ferrari. Don't fight
with each other because they're on for a
podium with one of the cars at least
still. Solair finally gets rid of the soft.
soft.
>> In comes Lando Norris for a huge sock.
>> That's the sort of thing where he's made
a mistake on the inlab. It's not the
cleanest of pit stops, but it's far from
a disaster. 3.8 for Norris. And let's
have a look at Lando Norris. The guess
from the drivers, and that's why he'd go
no further. And there is the lock up at
turn 12.
Yeah, this is kind of continued sobering
times for Yuki Cenoda as his teammate
leads this GR free. Oh, over the grass
and spinning. Oh, that was a late move.
>> It's a It's a strange bit of road that
because there's that left kink that you
kind of ignore as you're driving the
racing line, but I think Bman was quite
set on making the move. Cenoda thought
he'd suddenly dive towards this apex
that you don't normally take, but there
was barely the space anyway really for
Bman. I think he did slightly move under
braking, but was Ollie ever going to
really make it up the inside there?
He's got the Ferrari right there
tantalizingly just in front. Clair's
running out of traction. The rear end's
going. Lando's close. Is he close enough
for a late send? Getting to the apex
first and taking second for a second was
Lando Norris. Michelle saw that one
coming. Still P2.
>> It's a great attempt from Norris. That's
more what he needs to do. Break late,
take chances. Andlair saw that one
coming. And it was more great awareness
from him to cut back on the exit. But
he's got to disruptlair now trying to
close down the gap going to the inside.
Lando Norris claiming the position. And
it's second place in the race for the
man who is now, as it stands, just 14
points back in the hunt for the World
Championship. This was a big moment for
Lando Norris. What a lap in his
championship campaign it was. This was
turn one. Couldn't make it stick at that
point. By turn 12, the story was
different. But that was just good
because it disrupted. Got him offline
and it meant Lander was so close then
just really didn't have an answer on the
back straight. Once again, Max Vstappen
is going to win the Grand Prix. Are we
witnessing the comeback of all
comebacks? Across the line to take the
checkered flag, the dream of title five
is alive for Max Vstappen. Max Vstappen
wins the US Grand Prix and the gap which
was once 104
now stands at just 40 points.
>> Another very impressive weekend, Max.
Extremely well done. Enjoy the
celebrations. I'll see you next time.
>> Yeah, well done, mate. Yeah,
unbelievable weekend. Really, really
good. Thank you very much, Ephra. And
yeah, have a good flight back, mate.
>> Max Stappen has eroded the advantage of
both McLaren. He is 40 points away in
imperious form. But there is a reason
that no one has ever overturned an 14
point deficit. Can he be the first? We
have five Grand Prix remaining to find out.
