Hi Lara, it's great to meet you. Hi
David, it's nice to meet you too. I'm
really excited to start this journey
with you. Uh how are you feeling about
starting coaching? I'm feeling a bit
unsure about how this process will go,
but I'm looking forward on gaining some
uh clarity on my goals and improving my
skills. That's completely normal.
Coaching is a partnership and the
process works best when we both
understand our roles and
responsibilities clearly. Today, we'll
focus on setting expectations, defining
our roles, and establishing boundaries
so we can avoid any misunderstandings
moving forward. How does that sound?
That sounds great. Uh, I want to make
sure we're on the same page from the
beginning. Great. Let's start by
defining our roles. My role as the coach
is to guide and support you in
identifying your goals, reflecting on
challenges, and creating actionable
steps to achieve those goals. I'll ask
you questions to help you think
critically, and may provide feedback
when appropriate, but I'm not here to
give you all the answers or tell you
what to do. Does that make sense? Uh,
yes it does. Uh, so you'll help me
figure it out instead of giving me
direct solutions. Exactly. I'll be here
to facilitate your growth and empower
you to take ownership of your journey.
Your role as the coachi is to be an
active participant. That means being
honest, open to self-reflection, and
committed to taking action on the steps
we discuss. Does that sound good to you?
That sounds good. I like the idea of
being actively involved. I think I'll
get the best out of it that way. Great.
Now, let's talk about boundaries. To
ensure we have a productive
relationship, we need to set some ground
rules. For example, we'll start and end
our sessions on time. If you need to
reschedule, I'd appreciate at least 24
hours notice. Is that okay? Yes, that's
reasonable. I'll make sure to let you
know ahead of time if anything comes up.
Thank you. Another important boundary is
confidentiality. Everything we discuss
will stay between us unless there is
legal or ethical obligation for me to
share something. Nevertheless, this will
be your safe space to explore ideas and
challenges openly. Do you have any
concerns about confidentiality? Uh, no
concerns. I think confidentiality is so
important. So, I appreciate that. Great.
Lastly, while I'm here to guide and
support you, it's important to remember
that this is a professional
relationship. That means we'll keep the
focus on your goals and progress. Does
that sound fair? That sounds great. Um,
I appreciate the professionalism. Now,
let's set some expectations for how we
work together. Okay. I'll prepare for
each session by bringing tools and
strategies to help you on your end. I'd
like you to come prepared with any
topics, challenges, or goals you'd like
to discuss. What do you think? Uh, that
makes sense. I'll make sure to think
about what I want to focus on before
each session. Great. One more thing,
feedback. Yes. I might challenge your
thinking or ask you questions that push
you out of your comfort zone. This is to
help you grow. If my approach isn't
working for you, I want you to feel
comfortable letting me know. How do you
prefer to receive feedback? I appreciate
direct feedback as long as it's
constructive and not too harsh. Got it.
I'll keep that in mind. And I also
provide positive feedback when I see you
making progress. Does that sound like a
good balance? Yes, that works perfectly.
Great. To recap, we defined our roles.
I'm here to guide and support you. and
you're taking ownership of your growth.
We've agreed on boundaries around time,
confidentiality, and
professionalism. And we'll communicate
openly and I'll provide balanced
feedback to help you grow. Does that all
align with what you were hoping for?
Yes, it does. I feel much more confident
now about how this process will go.
That's great to hear. For our next
session, I'd like you to think about a
specific goal or challenge you'd like to
work on. This will give us a strong
starting point. Does that sound good?
Yes, definitely. I'll prepare something
before our next session. Thank you,
David. Perfect. I'm looking forward to
our next meeting. Have a great week,
Lara. You, too. See you next time. [Music]
