I'mma give you my
phones because I have
alarms that will go off.
Oh, you're
Thank you so much. Congratulations.
Too short here. Oh, this song. We have a
special guest here today. someone really
in my heart and someone's doing a lot of
things and excited. Okay, without
further ado, I'd like to introduce you
to Mr. AJ Brown. [Applause]
Uh, I'm sit down. So, what I wanted to
do is just kind of we came up with this
whole idea. Well, AJ, I'm gonna go ahead
go ahead. Okay. So, we came up with this
idea because most importantly, AJ
established his own foundation, the AJ
Brown Foundation. And really, the key
focus is to support kids like you guys
and to get you guys keep moving forward
upward and onward, right? Because that's
what's most important. Um, if you have
some goals, some dreams, some
aspirations, and thoughts, how can we
get you from point A to point B
strategically and staying on that right
track? Um, and so bringing AJ here
today, we wanted to kind of talk with
him a little bit about what has his path
been, what has his story been, what's
his journey been, and really what's most
importantly his
why. And I want him to begin to serve to
you guys as a mentor. All right? And for
someone that you guys can look look up
to, um, lean into as well. So, let's
just start first and foremost, you just
want to kind of just introduce yourself
and really just share about what is your why?
why?
Uh, okay. First of all, I want to say
thank y'all for allowing me to come to
speak. Um, if you don't know, my name is
AJ Brown. I play for the Philadelphia
Eagles. Wide receiver.
Yeah. Super Bowl champion.
Yeah. Yeah.
Yeah. But, but today, I'm not here to
talk to you about any of
that. Not football. I can I can talk to
you about the structure that football
gave me to be who I am, but I'm I'm I'm
here to talk to you as a man today, 27
years old, who was once in your shoes.
Um I've uh I've never been arrested. I'
I've never been in trouble with the law.
But that doesn't say I haven't I haven't made
made
mistakes. I haven't made mistakes. And
I'm saying I I can't just say that
I can relate to each and every one of
you all, but I'm no perfect man. You
know, my story is
uh um far from finished, just like you
all. You all story, but let's get into it.
it.
Um give you the quick runner. I'm going
to give you the positives first, right?
So I grew up in Starkville, Mississippi.
Um, I grew up in a two parent two parent
household. Um, they both loved me,
raised me. Um, started playing sports as
I grew up and
um, end up choosing Old Miss over
Alabama, you know. Uh, I'm real
southern, so I end up staying home, kind
of close to home. Chose Old Miss, went
to Old Miss. I played uh, I did three
years there. Three years there. I
entered the league. I entered uh, the
league early.
got drafted by Tennessee Titans in the second
second
round. Signed uh four-year deal worth 5
million and
Philadelphia. Signed another 4year 100 mil
mil
deal and two years
later sign another deal three year 96
mill. And none of this is about
money. Uh I'm just telling you um the
the the the positive of what I'm about
to get
into. And then you know I won a Super
Bowl last year which I'm I'm very
grateful. We're grateful. Right. Right. Right.
Right.
Right. Let's get into the negative
though. We get into my mistakes and my
path. So when I talk about that two two
parent household and this is uh
something that I have uh never shared on
on camera or you know especially to the
public. My mom and dad split up. I was
around 11 or 12. I felt like
uh feel like my mom divorced me too. So,
I knew firsthand about losing like a
first love, losing somebody who was in
the household who who was uh was with
me. And
um it affected me and I acted out. I did
stupid stuff.
Um to the point where seventh grade, I
even failed in seventh grade. A lot of
people don't know that. Not because uh I
I wasn't capable of doing the work. I
just wanted attention, you know. Uh,
actually, I was very smart, but I wanted
attention and I acted out and I did
things to try to to to create tension
parents. That same year, I'm like 12 or
13, you know. I joined a
gang. I joined the gang.
Uh, I was uh I was a gangster disciple
GD. I used to walk around the school be
saying 741 for to the world blow. Yeah,
that's at that moment though I thought
it was cool, you know, cuz I'm I'm
trying to find an outlet. I'm trying to
find an outlet and I think that's you
know I'm like I got I got I got attached
to the wrong crowd real
quick. Then fast forward fast forward I
got a little older. I went to
college. I went to college and
uh came back home one weekend. Went to
my high
school. Went to my high schools for for
some event or something. I'm on I'm I'm
on the campus and
uh ended up getting into it with uh this
young lady. I was sitting on her truck
and we were just chilling. You know how
guys just be chilling and and
um we kind of get into it. She's like,
"Hey, can you get down?" I'm like,
"Yeah, I'll get down if you truck." But
like, "Hey, you don't got to talk to me
like that." you know, like you you're a
lady, like you can't do nothing to me.
Like, just chill.
chill.
So, I don't know what she told her
people her that I said to them, but they
pulled up on me, right? I mean, like 10,
15 deep, hop out of the car. And I'm
with two of my
friends. And so, we just sitting there
just like, "Oh, shoot." Like, okay.
Like, we we really about to had to
fight, you know? And uh but in that
moment though, I felt played. I felt
tried. Like they tried to spook me, you
know? You all you all know what I mean?
Like somebody like pull up on you try
try like pull your car like you feel me?
Like all they were doing was trying to
spook me, right? But in that moment uh
again I said nobody ever play with me
again. I said nobody would walk up on me
and try me like that again out here in
the street.
So, here I go again. I'm in
college. I'm in college and uh I end up
getting I end up getting a gun for my
cousin just not for reckless behavior
but for for
protection. So, I used to ride around in
my car. You know, I went to Old Miss and
you know, they love me to Old Miss. And
one night I got pulled over by the
police and things just started to go
really well for me at school. I I was
having a big season and
everything and
um um pulled me over. I gave him my
license, everything. He was like, "Oh,
Mr. Brown, where you going? Like, can
you just slow down?" He really let me
go. And in that moment, uh I made a
decision for myself. I got another
chance. I got a second chance again,
right? Not many not many people get
afforded first chance or a second chance
or a third chance, but no, God's with me.
me.
again cuz not knowing I don't know
what's on the guns. I it could it could
have been bodies on the gun or anything
but I didn't know that. I just wanted
for protection. I ain't want nobody to
play with
me. So that day I ain't uh the next day
I end up like wiping off the
fingerprints and everything, cleaning up
guys. It's a little irresponsible.
You feel me? Like but it's a little
irresponsible. But what I did was I
wrapped it up. I wrapped it up in this
blanket and I put it in this box and I
had this big dumpster in front of my
house. I wrapped it up and I put it in the
dumpster and that's how I got rid of
that gun cuz I said I got another
chance. Like I'm doing good and I'm like
I'm so close to achieving my dream,
right? And um I got rid of it. Now you
look at me right now and you see what
Super Bowl champion got all this
success, all his money, cars, whatever
the case may be, bro. But like know I've
been through stuff, too. I I sat in those
those
seats. I didn't get in trouble with the
police, God willing. But I made
mistakes. And these mistakes that you
you all have made doesn't define
And I wanted to first off share that
with you all before we even get it get
get y'all asking questions because I
want to be open as possible with y'all.
Let y'all know that y'all not
alone. I'm not getting no money to be
here. None of that. I'm here because I
want to change the community, bro. And
let you know that I was just like you.
Let you know that I love y'all.
each and every one of y'all. I want to
try to help y'all out as much as I
can no matter what that looks like.
What's one of the toughest things he's
had to be, you know, been through in
life and what has he done to kind of
push through that? And are you talking
about childhood or throughout his whole
life? Even the whole life. Okay.
for me I I would say losing my
away. I still I'm 27 years old, bro, and
that. You just don't see it. You just
see me scoring touchdowns on Sunday.
you know,
uh, moving past that that that point
where I felt
like I could do no wrong or I could do
no right, I should say, when it came to
fighting for my daughter in
Um, but
uh I definitely have to say those two
cuz I know how it feels
to to be angry dog
like to the point where I'm mad I'm mad
bro.
So, but I
just I just kept going, bro.
I just kept going, bro. I had people
around me who love me and I didn't see
that. I pushed everybody away. You talk
issues. It take a lot for me to trust
you, man.
Like, it take a lot for me to trust you
and take a lot for uh for people to just
be around me. Like, I got to scope the
scene first. I got to I got to like see
like I got to like watch them for a
while before like I let them in, you
know? And I still deal with that to the
to this day, you know.
Um so definitely some of the things that
I have been through definitely molded me
and I wouldn't change none of it because
it's it's it's made me who I am today.
So, I don't know what you're going
through. Um, I don't know what you're
dealing with, man. But try to find peace with
it. That's the only That's the
Tell me your name, sir. My name is
Seline. Like, when you was like having
like a bad day like in your childhood,
like what did you do like to get past that?
that? My
childhood. I turn to honestly me. I turn
Uh, I just went out there and just like
played ball, either basketball, football,
football,
um, or baseball to be honest, man. Uh,
see, I'm a loner. You know, my when my
people split up, it made me a loner. You
know, my my two older sisters was out
the house, so I ain't had nobody to turn
to. So, I
just I was okay being by myself, and
that's not a good thing. Honestly, it's
not a good thing. I still I still be
want free time by myself.
Uh but I just found I just found peace
in in whatever I want to do, like
And I used to
draw, listen to music, but like I just
had took time just
to to gather my thoughts, bro, and just
cuz you can have a bad moment, but don't
let it bleed into a bad
day. You know, that's your power. You
giving your power to whatever situation.
I don't care what somebody do to you or
say to you. Even if something goes wrong
in this moment, that don't mean the rest
of this day got to be bad. It just you
had a bad moment today. Had a bad this
right here. And so when you when you
learn when you learn like the power that
you have over over over your over your
mental like that's when you going to be
free cuz [ __ ] cuz we all got we all got
demons, bro. You feel
me? I just found I just found a positive
way to let it out on that football field,
field,
dog. And that's probably why I get
penalty when somebody tried me on that
football, you know, for
real. So try to find peace with it. Then
try to find an outlet, whatever that may
be. Whatever what you like to do.
What you like? What you play? Football. Football.
Football.
Just what position?
Corner. All
right. What you like the best? Corner.
corner. You like to hit people.
All right. Take it out on other people.
You see what I'm saying? On the football
field though in a healthy way. You feel
me? But you got to learn to process that
and you can use that. Like think about
all like the Greeks, bro.
Like imagine like Sean Taylor, bro. He
used to knock the hell out of people.
You sure you sure he had no demons he was
was
facing? See what I'm saying, bro?
very own Brian Dawkins.
You see what I'm
saying? So, just learn how to process in
the right way. Process in the right way.
So, earlier you had mentioned that
football has an effect on your on your
personal life. What do you mean
See, football has
discipline. And that's what honestly
that's what you need. You need
discipline and consistency for whatever
life. Football, it changed my life
because I was told to do this at a
certain time. I had to wake up at a
certain time. Be here at a certain time.
Be here at a certain time. I had to go
to class. cuz I had to wait a certain
time. I had to practice at a certain
time. I had a responsibility I had I had
to attain to. And so now that I'm a
professional, I'm still doing that. And
to the point where nobody's telling me
that now. And so I come up I came up
with a structural system of how I live
my life. Like I wake up I wake up at a certain
certain
time. I eat breakfast at a certain time.
I go work out at the same certain time.
I get some time to spend time with my
family. Then I'm again then I'm back at
it with trying to feed my feed my mind
with what I'm listening to, what I'm
doing. And then that that that
day at like 10:00, 8:00, 10:00 goes off,
I'm in the bed, bro.
So, I have a whole system that I have
came up with that has helped me grow on
that football field, but most
importantly, as a man. So, I don't have
time for stupid stuff. I'm not trying to
First of all, I'm not trying to be
outside late at night. First of all,
first of all, it's dangerous. I'm just
going to tell you. I'm just going to
tell y'all, man. I tell you this, man. I
saw uh I was with my lady uh probably
last weekend and we waiting outside the
hotel to go back home, man. I saw two
guys with ski mask. What y'all y'all
call them? Y on on a bike. I said, "Nah,
I got to go inside, man. I got to go
inside, man. Spook me, man." Yeah. But
yeah, but I mean you can't be outside.
You got it. Don't even if I don't
though. Even if I don't though, like
what's like why would you want to be
It's lit. Lit, huh?
It ain't really too much in the crib to
be inside. So like everything is
outside. Money outside, you know.
Outside the guys outside. I hear you.
Everything outside. Yeah.
What you want? What you want to be, dog?
When I go, Huh? What you want to be?
What you What you want to do,
man? I want for right now. I just want
to finish high school. Finish high
school. That's my short term. What's
your long term? Go past that. Think past
that. Trying to be I'm trying to be a
carpenter. Carpenter.
All right. I know nothing about
that until you shoot straight. All
right. But you want to be a carpenter.
But you being outside, is that helping
you being a carpenter?
I ain't mad at you about the females
now. Hey, I ain't mad at you about that.
No. But is that that ain't helping you,
huh? No.
So So you need to think about what ways
that's going to help you cuz right now
you hanging out with the
guys. What does that
do? Tell you a little quick quick little
story. Just like you just said, you
hanging out with the guys. So I used to
me and my cousin, we used to go hang out
at my cousin house right down right down
the street. Everybody go hang out down
there. I got we basically grew up down there.
there.
And uh my dad was like my dad just
stopped me from going down there. He was
like, "Hey man, like cuz I all we did
like I'm be honest like my cousin they
was stealing and stuff like shoot I even
try to start stealing and stuff right
cuz I'm around I'm around it right and
so shoot everybody come down there
they'll gamble shoot dice or whatever
the case may be fight or whatever like
that was a spot that was spot we going
to hang out with you know I'm being
outside you know chilling you know I'm
with the guys right ain't no harm this
my family like and then other people
from the city come down right I lived in
the country so we'll come down. My dad
was like, "Hey man, like you getting
older. Like you need to ain't nothing
good. Ain't nothing positive going on
down there, right?" And so shoot after
that, I'm still tight with both of my
cousin to this day. But after that,
uh probably like not even not even too
long ago, bro. Like like a week later,
bro. Like my my my oldest cousin shot my
other cousin in the chest playing around
with a gun
playing Russian roulette
playing cuz I know how it is to be
kicking it with your guys like it's cool
like it's you know what I'm saying like I
I
understand but
like and my cousin would have died. The
bullet still in his chest to this day.
But if he would have died my other
cousin would have been in jail for the
rest of their life regardless if they
were playing with a gun or what. So I
already know how about h how how it is
when you parlaying with the guys and you
chilling. Like I know how that is. Like
that's cool. Like we do that in the locker
locker
room. That's cool. But it got to be it
got to be aligned to what you want to
be. It got to be aligned to what you
want to be a carpenter. You feel me?
Like you need to think like shoot I want
to own my own carpenter business. That's
how you need to think because it all
starts here. You feel what I'm saying?
So I understand, bro. Again, I'm still I
understand you going out there for the
females. I ain't mad at you. I ain't mad
How do you think you overcame building
trust? Like
a female. Yeah. In a big
situation high school, right? So over
time like, yeah, this might be the one. Yeah.
Yeah.
So I recently just got engaged to my uh
to my girl. We've been together like
Um, bro, you know I still deal with
that, bro. [Laughter]
That's something that's like I still
like it's scary, dog. Like, put yourself
out there. Not even to the point where
it's just like but love. Well, I should
say love because that's what it is. You
know what I'm saying? You you're
vulnerable. You put yourself out there, right?
right?
And I had to make sure I get myself
right when when it came to that. Like I
I had to make sure I was doing all the
right things that I need to for the
person, right? But it's still just
like she can do or anybody can do a
million great things to me for me and
they do that one thing. It erase all
that [ __ ] just like
that. Just like that. And I still
struggle with that today. And it's to
like I be in my word, right? I be I be
in my word like heavy. And
so I try to give my trust, I ain't gonna
say I try, give my trust to God. So like
if something happens to me, I know like
he going he going to get me right. Like
he he he
he my he my parachute. Put it like that.
Right. And so again, like I just got
engaged with with with my lady, but
we've been together five years. And it's
to the point where just like I be had to
tell myself like, bro, she not trying to
hurt you, bro.
She human
too. Now if it's malicious, nah, we
gonna deal with that as we
go. You know what I'm saying? But
like I be have to talk to myself. I do
that all the time. Like bro, like but
I'm always scoping the scene first
though. Like I got to I got to cuz I
that's how I got to operate because of
what happened, you know? You know, you
can't be vulnerable. You can't be naive,
bro. That's how you get walked on. You
walked over, you know. I mean, I'm sure
It took maturity on my part was just
like my kids and my family is the most
important thing to me,
right? Not football, not the
Eagles, not money, not no cars, bro.
It's my
so it took for me
to get a get that big payday I got to
realize money ain't money ain't
everything cuz you can have it all bro
and still feel empty. I got this big ass
house and I had this big ass house in
Tennessee where I had this money. I had
I had everything the fame and everything
away because I
was didn't know it but I was placing
placing my all into materialistic
thing and once you learn that like life
is more it life life has more meaning to
than whatever you trying to achieve or
whatever you're trying to chase or
whatever you want m materialistic cuz
you can go get a car bro it's going to
be in it's going to be outside bro you
can't sleep in the car you feel me and
so I just learned to just find peace
with with myself and my loved ones
because because that's what it's about
and I'm like that's that's what it's about
about
I I
have you mentioned in Recognizing that
you were um with the wrong kids, I'm
wondering how hard was it for you to
break those relationships because
sometimes you get stuck, you can't get
out. And I don't know if football was
the way you were able to turn it off or
curious how you broke those. All right,
that's a great question. That's a great
I don't know how it is up here in
Philly, you know, but I could tell you
how it was in Mississippi at that time.
Unfortunately, like I said, I don't know
how it is to be in Philly, like when you
you join a gang and whatever the case
may be, and you're in the neighborhood
or whatever, right? But for me, you
know, I grew up like my roots are from
Chicago. Like my mom, my dad, like I
from Chicago. It's not like we up there,
we we we claiming such and such. And
like once you in it, you in it to to the
death of you, right? And I'm sure that's
probably what it is in Philly. I don't know.
know.
But but at that moment
though, I was fortunate cuz I had
somebody I had an OG in the
hood told me to go play ball. This [ __ ]
ain't for
you. And he knew I was a good
kid and he looked out for looked out for
me. And not everybody get that chance.
Not everybody not everybody get that
love. So I can't sit up here and act
like I know how how how that feels.
And still [ __ ] I was still stupid
enough to still walk around and act like
I was still claiming it,
right? But my dad, bro, my dad was on
me, he was on me tough, bro, cuz he know
just like one one one bad decision, bro,
that [ __ ] over with. Just like
that. And so, but I had somebody who
just just told me and say, "Hey
man, this ain't for
you. This ain't this ain't the life that
you want to do. You got a chance to do
what you want to do. you know, go do it.
Low key gave me his blessing, gave me his
his
protection. And so that's probably why
nothing nothing ever happened to me for real.
real.
So So how you get about how you how you
get up out of it? So just like I use sports
sports
to detach myself. So like I can't say
like like I I grew up in the hood. So So
look, I'll tell you this. My mom used to
live on the west side. Not not my mom.
My grandma used to live on the west side
and when I I used to I used to get
dropped off at my grandma house every
single day and that's when I would go to
the project. I grew up in the country.
So fortunately I had a chance to
like get away from that a little bit. I
I I used to have to I used to pick and
choose when I wanted to go to the
projects and be a part of the stupid
[ __ ] You see what I'm saying? So but
when I went to school it was just I was
just at school. I'm around my people
whatever around whatever, right? But I I
wasn't I can't say that I can't say
because I didn't grow up directly in a
hood. But was I a part of the hood at at
times? Absolutely. So So that's to to
answer your question, you know. I I I
hope I did, but I I I don't know, you
question. Come on.
My name is Dean. At what point in life
did you like finally like mature?
Uh, he asked when in life did you
How old are you?
It wasn't It wasn't at your age.
It wasn't at your age, man.
bro, say when I was like 23.
I say I was 23.
Yeah. And that took trials and trials
and trials and trials. You know, you
going to make mistakes. So, whatever you
do, you give yourself grace. So, you
Y'all can ask whatever, man. I'm open. But
But
I want to know when you started playing
football. Were you little or was that
like an older like
uh like I started playing pee-wee
football when I was like seven or eight.
Um I stopped playing for a while then.
You did? Yeah. I uh to be honest, bro, I
was scared. I was scared of contact. So,
I ain't want to play football. Like, I'm
like, um, shoot. Sometimes, [ __ ] I'm
still scared to this day. I just, you
know, I'm just bigger than everybody. So,
So,
uh, um, but I said about seven, eight,
how was like your first year of college?
Uh, I'll never forget this. Uh, Laqucoin
Trewell, I was on I was on my visit from
Chicago. I was on my visit with him and
he like showed me the ropes he had
played like T&M. He had like this crazy
game. You did good, right? It was
somebody that I was looking up to at the
time. And so we went out that night,
went to like the square in Old Miss and
um he just kept it real with me. He was
just saying
like a lot of a lot of a lot of your
teammates going to get distracted and
And uh he started pointing it out. He
was like, "Hey, he go out every
weekend. He can't stop chasing
girls. All he do is smoke weed and drink all
all
weekend." So what So which one you going
to be? Which one you What you What you
want to do? Do you want to play football
or do you want to experience this right
here? College, right? Because I went to
a school to party every single day.
Every single day. And so in that moment,
bro, he just kept it real with me. Say,
"Bro, you got to put your head down. You
need you need to go to work because this
right here, this gonna be out here. And
this right here ain't going nowhere.
It's still a party every single day.
It's a party somewhere right now. All
those three things you you can go out
and get that right now. So, but you need
to lock in and chase what you want,
whatever your dream is." But when I got
to school, man, I was locked in my
freshman year.
Um, I ain't go out, bro. I ain't move
around, bro. I
was, you know, I had fun. I'm not going
to sit up here and say I ain't had no
fun, but I had fun, bro. But I was
trying to play ball. Like, I wasn't
playing. I didn't play my freshman year.
I had like 200 yards, bro. So, I was
trying to get on the field and and I
wasn't fortunate like these kids today
had a transfer portal. Just get up out
of there. Like, I had to sit there. If I
transfer, I had to sit out of here. like
I couldn't transfer and go play
somewhere else. So, I had to thug it
out. So,
but as I got older, bro, uh in college,
bro, college became more and more fun
because, you know, I I became that dude
on campus, you know, everybody wanted
wanted something from me. So, a lot of
more distractions, a lot more a lot more
distractions. So, just like even to the
point where it's just like like how
y'all think my life is now.
Huh? Peaches and cream.
I respect that. I respect that. I I
ain't got no problem with that. I
respect that. Peaches and cream. Why you
say that? Huh? Why you say that? You
just say you s for 40 million one time.
another couple. You got a couple M's in
the Yeah.
All right. You You looking pretty mean
on the side.
Yeah. So that's what it looks like
though. It's always more than what it
seems. For sure. For sure. Everything
that shining gold, you feel me? Yeah.
But like I really still feel like you
To to Okay. To
to along the lines of what you saying
peas and cream. Now the decisions that I
have made in the past has put me in a
great position moving forward with my
life. But that doesn't mean but the
things that I have been blessed with
cannot become a distraction to me most
importantly. So imagine
this. You growing up wherever you from,
but you got to look out for you got to
look out for people who
who stealing,
stealing,
robing, drugs, all that type of stuff.
Women, all that type of stuff, right? So
imagine that times 100, times a million.
Cuz now that I got all these blessings
and I got all these things, now I have
that in my
will. You see what I'm saying? So when
you in the hood, you shoot, you smoke a
little weed here and there, like you can
do that, right? But here with
me, I have to
learn I got to know right from wrong in
the sense of because I have so much so
many blessings that I got all the access
in the world. Like you only y'all y'all
y'all may be worried about some weed
here and there or some some or a person
taking something here and there like,
right? But I got all this stuff in my
free will. Do you understand? I can get
up and go and do whatever I want to at
at any time. Do you understand the type
of pressure that is? Do you understand
the type of eyes that's on me 24/7? You
type I step out, bro. Somebody just came
to my [ __ ] I'm
sorry. Somebody just Somebody Listen
though, listen though. Real talk. Real
talk. Real talk. Real talk. Somebody
just came to my crib and stole my car.
You see what I'm saying? You see what
I'm saying?
But you talking about But you talking
about pieces and cream. No, I got to be
on point at all times. Like this real
life. Like you like I understand you in
the streets. You got you may you may
have a op hearing or something like
that. But I got to be on point at all
times cuz I don't know who's an op or
who mean me well cuz some everybody who
want to come take a picture with me
don't mean me
well. They could be plotting doing
something. That's why my trust issues
bro. They they they they messed up.
That's just what it is. It's the life
that I signed up for. I signed up for.
So, as far as some of the stuff is
peaches and cream, but not all of it
peaches and cream cuz I got the whole
world in my hands and I got to push it
away because and that and the world
keeps coming cuz because of I'm doing
everything I'm I'm supposed to do. Just
like like when God blesses you, the
devil you you need you need to have
discernment to know that is that is that
is that God blessing you or is that the
devil blessing you? Cuz that's real. Cuz
everything that you got, every little
problem that you may have or whatever,
whatever, whatever vice you have, you
got a woman problem right now, get a
$100 million and see how see see that
problem. That problem going to show up
loud and
clear. You see what I'm saying? Now
these people get in trouble right now,
bro. And we may laugh at, but we don't
even see the
signs. But whole time. But whole time
though, but that's a
problem. That's a
problem. All right. I'm I'mma give you
example. I ain't gonna give it I ain't
gonna give you no other name, but it's
it's a it's guys it's guys that it's
guys that's in the lead getting in
trouble with women. They got fetish with
women. They doing doing little stuff
because when you got that all that type
of money, dog, like, bro, that stuff
shows up because now it's at your
leisure. Now you can get any woman you
want. You can pick and choose. You see
what I'm saying? So it ain't all pieces
and creams
because like as men I I truly feel like
as men, bro, we need to sit down and we
need to talk more about
like on some real time on some real time
porn, right? And it's going to a whole
another level because but what porn does
to your brain, it desensitizes your
brain. And so you think you may think
like, "Hey man, she look good or
whatever." No, you looking at her as an
object, not as a as a as a human being.
You see what I'm saying? But I see that
[ __ ] all the time from my team from my
team. my teammates talk about talk about
stuff like from other players and all
this other stuff, bro. That's real, dog.
So like just cuz you got all this
blessing, all this money and all this
[ __ ] like that [ __ ] bro. Everything
ain't peas and cream because whatever
problem that you may have deep down
inside that you not telling nobody
about, get some bread, get some money,
get whatever you get whatever you
desire. I promise you that [ __ ] going to
show up and and you you're not going to
be able to hide it because you you can't
like cuz when you get that bread though,
who you are really really comes out. I'm
just going to shoot you straight. So you
got to make sure you doing what you
supposed to do and who you supposed to
be before you even get to that level.
That's why you see these guys are are
getting in trouble doing this stuff like
but they ain't about no they ain't no
accident dog. Like no, no, if if it's
wrongfully accused, then that's different.
different.
So, but that's real though. So,
everything ain't disagree.
So, when you got the cheese, like you
would have it. Yeah, cuz Yeah, I I I
was, bro, cuz I set my family up and my
I know my family is taken care of for
the rest of their life. So, yeah, you
know, I was grateful. But guess what?
That always come that come with
two. Hey bro, let me get
something. Real talk. Hey. Hey, let me
get $100. Let me get $500. Let me get
$1,000. Let me get $5,000. You went ask
me for five $5 not too long ago. That
[ __ ] real. That [ __ ] comes up. Something
coming up in your family. Guess who they
look at? Every single time.
That's cuz you real. But that's every
single But is that my responsibility?
That ain't my responsibility though. And
I'm not even talking about my intermediate
intermediate
family. It's first, second, first
cousin, second cousin, third cousin. I
go on C. Let me get Let me get 5,000.
Let me get a thousand. Let me get a
th00and. You sure? You sure? You sure
you want
You sure you want to uh You sure you
want them brown? But look though. But my
haircut, man. Uh, I don't know, man.
Haircut prices is crazy nowadays, man. I
used to pay like $20 for a cut, man. EJ B.
B.
No, I ain't going to do my boy toot like
that. Nah, Toot toot be blessing me,
man. He show love. Uh, I just I just
give him a little tip. I ain't going to
say that.
Anybody else? How do you feel like how
do you feel being at Philly? Not by like
the team, but the environment, the atmosphere,
good and bad at times. You know, that's
that's in every city, you know. Uh
um that's why I try to do so much in
community, bro. Like, you know,
uh like like we got a gun gun violence
problem here. I be trying to help clean
the streets up, do stuff, mentoring kids,
kids,
and you know, uh try to change as much
as I can, bro. you know, even if just
even is that's a small glimpse, bro.
Like, and then I'm I'm cool with that.
But, but I love Philly
though. I can't say that Philly get on
my nerves
sometimes. I mean,
man, but no, but it's cool though. It's
cool. It's a lot of support here. It's a
lot of support here. There's a lot of
love here, too. You know, that's one
thing I can't say about Philly, man.
What's your thoughts on the Ky Liy situation?
As in regards to what though? Like
overall like the whole thing as a as a
uh as a as a what? What you mean?
athlete
like some guys who some guys like some
guys like attention, right?
Some guys
like what comes what comes with the game
and some guys like to play the game. And
I can honestly say for a while now I used
used
to like attention too, but I I love the
game more than I I like attention,
right? But I wanted attention from how I
played on the game on the field, right?
Um not all the extra stupid stuff. Uh
but but in that situation as an athlete,
bro, like sometimes
like we can
hear such and such playing good right
now, such and such is is playing top
five right now in the league, but when
that one person say, "Well, I think he
ain't doing too good or or I think this
person sucks," or whatever the case may
be, that negative comment sticks with
you more than a positive comment.
And so I can't really speak on his
situation because I don't know the
situation, but as far as the mental the
mental part of it. I definitely
understand the weight that you can carry
as an athlete when you're one of them
top dogs and like you got to go out
there and and do your thing every single
week. Like you can't have a bad week
just because of of what they going to
say as soon as the game over. make sure
that's that's kind of like Philly
though. That's why when I got here
though I I learned to like just to say
forget it dog
like you know y'all y'all know how
Philly is. Y'all going y'all going I
don't care what I do. It could be the
best game and I dropped one pass. I talk
about that one pass. He should have
caught that. I just had a buck 50.
I just had a b I just had a buff 50. You
know, but
but that that mental part of this game,
bro, is it's so it's so crucial, bro,
because we train all our lives, bro. We
training all year long to to to play our
best. And
so, I don't know his struggles. I don't
know his backgrounds. He may were trying
to make it out for his people. You know,
he made a mistake. Didn't know how to
handle that mistake. You know what I'm
saying? So mistakes happen and and as
not even athletes, bro, y'all got to
understand like mistakes don't define
none of y'all. Like that just one that's
just one moment, you know? You you could
have just did something. That's just one
moment, dog. Like and that's and that's
hard to process though when you
got you got your family depending on you
like to make it out the hood. You feel
what I'm saying? And so like that their
weight probably is on them, you know?
And like I said, I can't speak on him,
bro. But God rest his soul, bro. So,
prayers out to him and his
family. I do enjoy reading a
lot. That's
uh that has become one thing that I I I
I truly
love. I used to hate it growing up.
I don't know why,
but um but something, you know, I I feel
like it's cool to read, bro. I feel like
it's cool. I feel like it's cool to
learn, you know, not even if I'm if I'm
reading, I'm listening to a podcast. I'm
listening to something. You could be
listening to something on YouTube as
as your carpenter business. You don't
got to wait till you don't got to wait
till you get older to do that. You can
do that now. You feel me? You start
doing that. Like so for me I
started I was a professional before I
was a professional. I walked I talked I
acted like a professional right until
you make it. But you ain't faking it.
That's who you that's who you want to
become. So if you become that person
right now up here later on in life, bro,
that'll happen to you. You just got to
stay down and stay
but well I tell you this. Who got you say
say
that? I used to drive a little Camry in high
high
school. I used I used to drive a Camry
in high school. My dad My dad's car I
printed out. Went to school one day. I
printed out a little little Rolls-Roy signal.
signal.
Rolls-Roy. I put it right there. No, no,
no. Real talk. I put it right there. I
said, "Why? Why you don't think you
don't think that's cool?"
But look though. But look though. Check
this out though. Check this out though.
I say like I say like 15 15 years later
though I got a Rolls-Royce though. You
see what I'm saying? But I went faking
it though. I manifest that. So get past
all the embarrassment part like cuz
that's what that is. That's what that
is. Like your friends going to draw on
you. But no, that's what that is. That
you know what I'm saying? Like y'all got
to get past the doing stuff and you feel
embarrassed cuz that's what that is.
That's same way with me playing
football. Like like nobody want to
get nobody want to get locked up on
Sunday, right? Nobody want to get
embarrassed on Sunday cuz what they
going to talk about it, right? People
going to talk about it in the hood.
People going to talk people going to
talk regardless. But you got to get
right with yourself, bro, and learn that
like, bro, stop caring about what other
people think cuz your carpenter
business, I guarantee you if the real
people around you, if they rock with
you, they going to help you get that.
They gonna rock with they going to be
alongside you helping you. Man, y'all
may even go into business together. What
What you want to do? Cuz y'all seem like
y'all tight cuz y'all been over there
talking. What you want to do? What you
want to do? You said what I want to do.
I want to create a clothing brand. Yeah.
Businesses property. Okay. I like to
hear that. I like to hear that.
Entrepreneur, businessman. Yeah. But
y'all don't got to y'all don't got to uh
y'all don't got to wait to do that.
Y'all start designing stuff. Y'all just
start You start drawing. You start doing
this or looking at brands or whatever.
What you drip be talking about though?
Since you saying you want to do a
clothing brand,
you be drip. All right.
Yeah. All right. But yeah, but that's
that's a part of it though.
So try to find ways to to to to help
help build the future you, whatever that
may look like. You know what I'm saying?
Whatever y'all want to be become in
life, you know? So don't just sit out
here and just just waste time or go
alone or just go ple on the block with
your with your guys. N go do something
productive cuz ain't hey you know you
know in this life bro ain't
no ain't no a ain't no ain't no new game
bro ain't no ain't no we get to start
over bro one wrong move bro hey it
change just like that so you got to make
sure your steps are are guided the right
way and you walking down that path for
who you want to become not not the crowd
Not the crowd. Who you want to
become? Everybody can't go with you. I
got a question. Go ahead. Go ahead.
Yeah. Go ahead.
You can't take everybody with you. How
did it feel like when you came up and
you had to leave? Some people take
everybody. You feel me? Yeah.
Like I know some people that's like like
yourself, do they want you to stay in
the same spot? Do they want you stay
Okay. Yeah. Every time you try and get
out, somebody going to try to flee you there,
there,
right? Everybody can't go with you,
bro. I have uh I had two friends where I
grew up
with one of them doing pretty good for
himself. The other
done high school,
college, but as I uh I got
older, I started to realize, bro, my
morals and and didn't align with his
morals. So, I had to distance myself,
right? To the point where he was putting
his hands on a young
lady. I ain't cool with
that. So I had to distance
myself and I had to continue doing on
going on without with my with my journey
and whatever God had aligned for me. I
had to
continue. And those people some of them
them people they still reach
out. But
like you got to realize
when when to let
go because you hang on too long they
going to pull you down. That's why I
keep trying to tell you because you you
the one that say like you want to chill
with with your guys on the block, chill,
blah blah blah. But not everybody moving
the same way. You trying to move. I
guarantee you. I'm not s talking about
your partners or whatever the case may
be. But I'm I'm pretty sure they don't
want to be a cop or my
boy. See what I'm saying? You got to
make sure like people in your circle
they moving and s and and and to be
honest honestly
man sucks to say
bro like like Victoria know bro I don't
have no friends
bro you may think I'm I'm I'm lonely I'm
miserable but no I got family though my
my my lady my my kids
and I'm blessed to still have both my
parents in my life
you don't Like none of your teammates,
they not your friends.
Teammates is different. No, teammates is
different. We can talk about that.
Teammates are different. You know,
ultimately, you know, I have that love for
for
him. But like, nah, bro. I don't have no
I don't have no friends, dog.
But that's a brotherhood. It is a
brotherhood. But I always ask myself,
here I am. Here I am. Go. Here I am.
Here I go again. and thinking of
overthinking stuff and and questioning
people to say if we stop playing
football today, will you pick up that
phone and have my back if something happen?
happen? No.
No.
But you going to learn. But you but you
going but you going to learn that in
life though. You going to learn that in
life. You going to learn that over time
cuz everybody everybody on their own
journey and and you going to learn that.
But no, bro. I got some amazing
teammates, bro, that I got a lot of love for.
for.
But friends, bro, like like friends.
Nah, bro. I don't got none of that, bro.
Anybody ever come with you before?
Parlay all the time. All the time, man.
I be I sometimes I get upset, but it is
what it is, bro.
Uh, so in the moment of you in a game,
what made you a piggy back off of you? I
This a piggy back off of you. I don't
see too many people that go to the
sideline and read a book. What like was
going through your mind at that moment?
So, that moment, man, I was just trying
to just stay locked in. Um, like it's so
much like even in even in the football
game, so many distractions around. You
got people, you got teammates beside me
talking about
whatever. You got the what what's going
on on the field. You got the crowd going
on, going talking crazy behind us,
right? But it's so many distractions and
it's all all this noise, right? And what
I was trying to do in that moment was
just trying to quiet that noise and just
trying to lock in each and every moment.
So I'll tell you a little quick quick
little thing I do on the football field.
So in between in between I usually over
there read, which I'm not bringing that
book back out no more
because cuz it it cause a distraction.
I'm not trying to be a distraction, but
but I tell you what I do, man. I in
between in between drives, bro. I I read
a little passage out of there and then I
ask myself I tell myself before I go out
there I say don't worry about nothing
else but this drive give maximum effort
maximum effort and if I don't I got to
be real with myself when I come back now
there have been many times
where Jay may throw the ball high and I
don't jump as high as I high cuz I'm
like he overthrew me you know what I'm
saying like I get upset but that all
that was just a missile opportunity cuz
I ain't had nothing to do with how he
threw the ball cuz I don't know what he
got going on back there. He probably got
hit or whatever the case may be. But did
I give my my all and I got to be
completely honest with myself when I
come back and sit down. And then because
you don't know how many chances I'm
going to get to to to get the ball and
mess up your parlay,
right? I don't know. I don't know. So
what I what I do I just be real with
myself and and just and just say like
look this drive maximum effort and then
I come back and I say did I do that? I
say yes. Did I catch one ball? Yes. Cuz
many times when on that drive I'm dead
tired. I'm I'm tired but I want a sub.
Yeah. I be tired. Be breathing hard.
Right. But if I come out the game I'm
not gonna get the ball. Right. We just
gonna hand the ball to Seaquin. Say corn
going to jump over somebody and he going
to go score. You see what I'm saying? He
he not human, right? You see what I'm
saying? But that's an opportunity miss,
you know? And so my job is try to
maximize all these opportunities. And so
that's why I brought the book out. It
wasn't for a distraction or to to show
up nobody or none of that, but but you
two years ago. I'm going to say two
we had no doubt in our mind that I
should say this. two years ago when we
went to Super Bowl and played the Chiefs
the first time. Like we said we was
right? We couldn't get no stops on
defense. That's that's football. But
that's h that happens. We playing
against Pat
Mahomes. Um and we end up losing, right?
What? 38
35. Last year we faced him again
and we are playing basketball at the uh
New Orleans Pelicans thing. Right. First
of all, we got there, we pulled up just
getting just seeing like the facility.
We practice at the Saints stuff and in
the New Orleans Pelicans basketball
place and we was right there and we
we're in a we in a hooping playing like
five on five tripping Super Bowl in a
couple days.
Right. The coaches coaches don't even
know that. Coaches don't even know that
right at the moment. And we playing like
five on five. Like somebody get hurt
like whatever. Right. We not but
everybody enjoying themselves playing
playing five on five. But in that moment
like I was over there chilling just
watching. I was like bro we about to
blow these dudes out cuz to the point
where it's like nobody was even thinking
about football but everybody was
together, right? And that's one thing
that I can say that we were missing two
years ago. Like we knew we had the
talent and and we knew nobody messed
with us. But this this past year, like
this team probably was like the best
team I ever been a part of. Ever been a
part of. I'm talking about like offense
cool with defense cuz you know most of
the time it be like little groups like defense with defense, offense. No, it
defense with defense, offense. No, it was split up. It was split up, bro. And
was split up. It was split up, bro. And it it's like nothing no other, bro. But
it it's like nothing no other, bro. But like we knew they ain't stand a chance,
like we knew they ain't stand a chance, dog. like and we wanted that get back.
dog. like and we wanted that get back. You feel me? So,
You feel me? So, so
all right. Yeah, the the ladies ain't asking not
Yeah, the the ladies ain't asking not one question.
So, then we can wrap it up. Yeah. So, with a lot of the kids that we
Yeah. So, with a lot of the kids that we work with, if you could talk a little
work with, if you could talk a little bit just about the education side. So we
bit just about the education side. So we have some kids that either, you know,
have some kids that either, you know, get to school really late, they leave
get to school really late, they leave early, they just don't go, some of them
early, they just don't go, some of them are failing. So how did education play a
are failing. So how did education play a role in your life? And why is it
role in your life? And why is it important for all of these kids in the
important for all of these kids in the room today?
Number one, knowledge is is important, man. Information is important. You can't
man. Information is important. You can't be what whatever you want to be without
be what whatever you want to be without the information you need. Now, I have a
the information you need. Now, I have a I have my
I have my own thoughts on
own thoughts on school. We can probably talk about later
school. We can probably talk about later when we get in there. But,
uh, but showing up on time, showing up to school on time, staying standing the
to school on time, staying standing the entire day, like that's what you going
entire day, like that's what you going to have to do when you go to work. Like,
to have to do when you go to work. Like, you can't leave work. You can't leave
you can't leave work. You can't leave and show up whenever you want to show
and show up whenever you want to show up. You gonna get fired. You you ain't
up. You gonna get fired. You you ain't gonna be nothing. You can't do that.
gonna be nothing. You can't do that. Like, that's that's the bare minimum,
Like, that's that's the bare minimum, right? That's just like signing your
right? That's just like signing your name. That, you know, that's that's the
name. That, you know, that's that's the bare minimum. You you have to do that.
bare minimum. You you have to do that. Like for us, if we don't show up on
Like for us, if we don't show up on time, that check that I talked about or
time, that check that I talked about or they take that check. They find you.
they take that check. They find you. They find you every single time. You
They find you every single time. You miss a meal, you late for a me, you late
miss a meal, you late for a me, you late for a workout, they find you. And then
for a workout, they find you. And then if I keep if we keep doing that, guess
if I keep if we keep doing that, guess what? Our job is gone. Cuz that's the
what? Our job is gone. Cuz that's the bare minimum. Like should nobody have to
bare minimum. Like should nobody have to tell you to come to come to school or or
tell you to come to come to school or or go to work on time cuz that's what you
go to work on time cuz that's what you have to do. That's that's required. Like
have to do. That's that's required. Like these officers, they had to be on time
these officers, they had to be on time today. They had to be on time in the
today. They had to be on time in the morning. They can't just get up and go
