Netanyahu the very right-wing leader of
Israel uh allied with republicans in
Congress against Obama on this deal and
47 Republican Senators signed an open
letter to Iran in opposition to the deal
this alliance between a foreign leader
and domestic American opposition is
pretty rare Trump campaigned on ending
the deal in 201 16 saying quote my
number one priority is to dismantle the
disastrous deal with Iran the Trump
Administration certified that Iran was
meeting the stipulations of the deal
multiple times before Trump left the
deal in 2018 and unsuccessfully used
sanctions on Iran to try to force them
into a new deal European nations set up
a system to Shield Iran from American
sanctions to try to keep them in the
deal in June 2019 but they stopped
citing Iranian interference in the
summer of 2020 the Trump Administration
unsuccess F tried to enact the Snapback
provision in the deal basically adding
more sanctions on Iran but to do so the
US had to argue it was still a party to
the deal that it had very publicly left
Trump's Secretary of State Mike Pompeo
announced that the US had in fact
invoked the Snapback sanctions in
September of 2020 and called on all
participating in the deal to reinstate
their sanctions but the other nations in
the deal refus to comply several
countries imported Iranian oil with
waivers from the Trump Administration
basically saying the US didn't have a
problem with that and Iran remained in
the deal but one year after leaving the
deal Trump ended those waivers trying to
Halt Iran's oil exports entirely and in
response Iran resumed its nuclear
program as confirmed by un inspectors in early
early
2023 President Biden would like both the
US and Iran to return to the original
deal negotiated by the Obama
Administration that has been unable to
make that
happen so there you have it what are
