sneakers hi I'm Rob shimik I am the
group CEO of btech and my fun fact is
that I'm an extreme sports junkie later
this calendar year I will be doing the
Antarctica marathon in some very cold
temperatures deep deep deep down
south btech is the world's most scaled
Insurance distribution business in the
insure Tech space today we operate in
three continents and 30 plus countries
covering North America Europe and Asia
Singapore's very own homegrown inure Tech
unicorn first of all think about the
pace of change in the world around us
climate change for example is causing
natural catastrophes to occur at an
increasing speed and risks like cyber
risk are evolving and all of these
things create new risks that require new
Solutions at bolte we're focused on the
power of connection we're connecting the
need of those risks protected against
the providers who provide the protection
for those
risks southeast Asia is an amazing
opportunity for Insurance Solutions
there's opportunities for new innovation
for new business models to emerge that
enable us to meet this growing
protection Gap today less than 2% of GDP
is spent in this region buying
protection and yet everyone in this
region needs protection just like they
do in the more advanced markets around
the world and so we see that as a
tremendous opportunity and we see that
as an important place where Bola can
difference the most important recent
announcement that we've made is that Bol
hug has achieved the world's largest
ever series B fundraising round for an
insure Tech and that fundraising round
talks to the confidence of investors in
the business model of boltek we raised
$246 million in connection with our
series B fundraising round we're
extremely proud that we include the edbi
investors we do this in many countries
here in Southeast Asia in Thailand we
work with AIS one of the leading Telos
in the Philippines we've recently
launched with globe but we also worked
outside of the Telco space with
companies like Maya or Lazada or big
names here in South East Asia who are
really themselves transforming the
landscape in the marketplace and we just
want to be a part of helping them to
succeed we want to be an enabler to the
long-term success of the other players
Asia the first question am I a morning
person or a night person I'm both
exercise in the morning and family time
at night especially with my wife next
question the book I'm currently reading
are my favorite I love two authors John
Grisham and Michael Lewis the book that
I'm reading now is the next new new
thing by Michael Lewis about the Silicon
Valley if you could have any superpower
what would it be so I'm going to cheat I
want to be a member of The Avengers
where I'm associated with a whole team
of um Partners who have all of the
superpowers we don't want one superpower
at btech we want them all my dream
travel destination without a doubt I
want to do a safari in Africa come join
me my favorite app on my phone right now
I am a huge Philadelphia US sports fan
and so my Philadelphia US Sports app
that shows me how all of the teams are
doing go Philadelphia Eagles and lastly
complete this sentence Innovation is the
growth edbi is one of our favorite
Partners on our growth Journey a
participant in boltek successful series
a fund raise and again in our series B
fundraising also a wonderful partner for
helping us to establish our group
headquarters here in Singapore including
allowing us to get our talent into the
country when they came from other
geographies around southeast Asia very
proud of the connections that edbi
continues to help us make um both with
other insure techs or other aexs here in
the Singapore or Southeast Asian
Marketplace um but also with larger
companies that we target as potential
Partners where we think a boltek
solution Innovation or new business
succeed without a doubt one of the most
exciting things happening in boltek
today is the implementation of
artificial intelligence and it impacts
the entire value chain the way we
interact with customers in distribution
to the way we understand and underrate
risks and to the way we handle the
claims so one of the exciting things
that we've really done inside of btech
is we've unleashed the capability of
chat GPT we can use that to improve
efficiency but we can do it in a very
protected way so our information is not
shared with the outside world but we get
the benefit of llm capabilities you're
going to see exciting things coming from
future one piece of advice that I have
comes from stepen Cy's seven habits of
high Effective People begin with the end
in mind that means understand where
you're headed and never lose track of
that don't lose the forest through the
trees there's many distractions but stay
true to the vision that you've
undertaken in the first place and you'll be
