perhaps one of the most
pervasive uh ideological mindsets that
is put forth today not just in culture
but really truly even in the academic
setting there is this pervasive
understanding that due inferiorities of
one kind or another people have been
victimized whether that's because of
gender or race or age or whatever else
but what ends up happening is when we're
telling the story of our own life we end
up putting ourselves in a position of
inferiority and when we do that and we
begin to think that we're the victim in
the story of our own life we begin to
interpret every situation and
Circumstance and setback not as an
opportunity for growth but as further
confirmation that everything is stacked
against us so what ends up happening is
rather than being the protagonist in the
story the one who's able to make changes
and decisions and bring forth kind of
historically what was called the
American dream meaning that you can
build a family and build a career and
have children and all these wonderful
things can happen to your life you're
continually stuck in the mindset that
everything is built in a way in which
you've already missed the boat now we
can talk about that even in our modern
day with young people what is it right
people today are talking about the fact
that there was this huge wealth transfer
over the last couple years that uh the
Boomers bought their houses for pennies
and now nobody can afford to live at the
standard and all these other things it
is training people to not see
opportunities and if you know one thing
about wealthy people and people who
successful in life is they're constantly
trying to solve problems and they're
constantly seeing
opportunities so this victim mindset
that is so prevalent in the news is
there for one purpose and one purpose
only it gets people hooked on fear
that's the drug and the lie that it's
selling so if it can get people uh
tapping into the news media by fear
which we know
is the most efficient and effective way
for a news organization to build
viewership right they've done studies on
this when they do positive things they
have much less engagement so they
automatically trying to sell a a product
which is Gab grabbing your attention and
they do that through the negativity of
fear so when you understand that they
are trying to get you involved in that
mindset you have to take a different
approach to this and one of my favorite

say the Jesus prayer and do not
fear it is our place especially as men
in the world to be problem solvers to
find Solutions and to put our hope in
God and fear has nothing to do with the
Christian mindset in life in fact my
whole life before I became an Orthodox
Christian was full of fear and turmoil
anxiety and I want nothing to do with it
that is a totally coward mindset
mentality that's a failure I want
nothing to do with that now that I am a
Christian Christ has conquered sin death
and the devil and the world I want to be
part of that Legacy of conquering and I
want to be uh successful in my life not
to my own Glory but to the glory of God
God and for the betterment of my family
and the people around me it is
absolutely antithetical to the Orthodox
Christian mindset to be a victim in any
way shape and form we should completely
have a hard charger mentality say the
Jesus prayer march with humility and
find success and ask God to bless us in
our journey number two despair this is
an easy one and kind of a loow hanging
fruit if we piggyback on the first one
what we notice is there is a demonic
energy that is surrounding negative
thoughts feelings and
emotions right so when you see the
thoughts are pushing a person in that
direction there is only one uh
underlying lie that needs to be
dismantled and that is my
circumstances are out of control or out
of God's Providence that is the lie that
leads to despair for the Christian there
is always hope do sp SPO as long as I
breathe I hope the Christian life is all
about hope the life in the world with
sin and with death and Decay and
meaninglessness which is the highlight
of our culture and
absurdity it is a culture today of ABS
absolute existential absurdity where the
culture is decaying
and degrading Itself by all kinds of of
of strange pleasure seeking Endeavors
that lead to nothing but meaninglessness
and for us as Orthodox Christians we
have none of that we have to wipe the
vocabulary in our mind of Despair out
there is no room for despair because it
undercuts the Providence of God what
does that mean it means the hope is is
always in Christ I may know that I'm a
failure in and of myself I may know who
I really am and to be honest with you
that may be very humbling for me as it
is probably for you as well but despite
my shortcomings and the fact that I
continue to fail I still stumble forward
and in my own life I continually find
that the smallest amount of my effort
and energy brings the most amount of
help from God so whenever I'm even
pushing forward and making effort God is
there trying to push me further still
and that's what I rely on I don't rely
on my Charisma my charm my abilities my
personality any of those things I am
continually relying on the good love and
Providence of my heavenly Father which
has shown itself in my own life time and
time and time again to bring hope out of
the ashes of Ruin okay number three this
is an easy one we often see it it's the
classic upgrade it is what you see in
all marketing literature which is you
take a picture of somebody who's sad or
discontented you show an image of some
object that they are going to acquire
then you show a picture of them with
that object and now they're happy and
contented everything in their life that
was wrong that was missing is now fine
fulfillment this is one I think that
young men in particular particular are
prone to because they haven't hit the
stage in life where they've acquired all
those things so they're looking for a
wife a career uh a higher salary some a
house Financial Comfort these sort of
things what you often find with the guys
in their 40s is the opposite end of the
spectrum where they're closer to despair
cuz they've acquired all those things
and they're still not happy and so it is
that when we look at the upgrade model
the problem with it is is that we're
looking at changing our externals in the
hope of changing our internals and
there's a great saying about this
happiness is an inside job meaning that
if your soul is not content now you
can't take another person a wife or a
husband and put them into your soul and
now poof suddenly you're going to be
content it doesn't work like that things
like marriage children career money all
these things they're fine aspects of
life but they don't bring peace I never
talk about this in my video they bring
hardship they bring work they're the
cross they are sacrificial that's why
when you get married in the Orthodox
Church you wear the crowns of
martyrdom that is the nature of those
things it is not easy to be married it
is not easy to have kids it's not easy
to provide those things are a challenge
and a struggle are they a good challeng
all absolutely do they bring
meaningfulness to your life absolutely
but they don't bring happiness they
don't bring
contentment real contentment comes with
knowing Jesus Christ in a deep way
that's why St pidos he said something
like when you're looking for peace in
life you won't find peace but if you're
seeking after Christ your life will
become peaceful Man's real
need desire inclination and fulfillment
are found in his relationship with Jesus
Christ that is the real way to upgrade

reality is is that the real upgrade is
to upgrade your soul upgrade your
communication with God and utilize the
time that you have to develop the best
deepest relationship you can with him God
