0:01 You're watching Longshot TV, presented
0:04 by BMW trailer hitches, the last trailer
0:08 hitch you'll ever
0:13 need. Coming up this week on Longot TV,
0:18 the crew is having a great season so far
0:20 and today they are heading out in search
0:22 of a hard fighting fish, the greater
0:25 amberjack. th kind of ran up on them
0:27 pretty fast and I threw a net. We
0:29 managed to get a handful. So, we're
0:31 getting ready to get
0:33 fishing. This is what we came out
0:40 [Music]
0:42 for. I got him back on bait.
0:55 That's what I'm talking about right
1:01 [Applause]
1:05 there.
1:08 Go. That's a nice pull. Get
1:11 him. Nice fish, man. I ain't kidding
1:15 you, boy. Better hurry. Hey, wind it up.
1:17 Wind it up. Wind it up. Wind up. Wind it
1:18 up. Man, look at that fish there. Long
1:20 shot crew does it again.
1:25 Is that a fish or what?
1:28 [Music]
1:33 [Applause]
1:34 [Music]
1:49 It's been extremely windy summer and uh
1:51 we hadn't had a chance to go fishing
1:53 offshore that much. So, we finally got a
1:55 break in the wind. I get a hold of Chris
1:57 and Adam, decided to pack the long shot
1:59 up, all the supplies and fishing gear
2:01 and uh head offshore to try to catch
2:03 some greater amberjack.
2:06 finally got Wade to call me back. He's
2:07 kind of tough to uh to u tie down with
2:10 his commercial fishing operation uh
2:12 going on full full steam ahead in the
2:15 summer. We got a break in the weather.
2:18 He said uh this will be a great day uh
2:21 to go. The ocean's really pretty today.
2:24 We got birds working on both sides.
2:25 We've been pretty lucky all year finding
2:27 the bait. And you know, the bait's the
2:28 most important part of the trip. Yeah.
2:30 Last trip we just run around the south
2:32 side of the jetty and uh come up on a
2:34 bait ball real fast. But today you said
2:37 you want to try to head north. Uh few
2:39 less boats. So uh hopefully we'll get
2:41 lucky and come across some pretty
2:44 [Music]
2:47 quick. Hadn't heard of a lot of bait
2:49 being caught. So the way the seas were
2:53 looking in the afternoon was supposed to
2:55 get up. So I made a call. Let's head up
2:56 to the east, catch bait. We'll fish it
2:58 that way. When we decide to come home,
3:00 we'll catch the seas on the stern, which
3:02 will make for a smoother
3:08 ride. Soon like a couple miles went by
3:11 and I thought we'd already had bait by
3:12 now. Nothing. No birds, hardly working.
3:15 Just it was like a dead
3:19 [Music]
3:20 ocean. So, we finally spot a few
3:23 pelicans and run up on them. And time we
3:26 get up on them, the bait I'm like, you
3:27 know, where's the bait at? no
3:30 [Applause]
3:33 bait. Uh it was looking like it was
3:35 going to be a beautiful day except for
3:37 one thing. Uh we couldn't catch any
3:40 bait. All of a sudden, Adam's driving
3:42 the boat. I got the net. And I'm like,
3:44 when we run up on this bird, I'm going
3:46 to be ready to throw the net. Just get
3:48 the boat up on plane. Run up on this
3:49 bird as fast as you can. When you see
3:50 him dive, I'm going to throw the net.
3:52 We're going to make this happen.
3:54 [Music]
3:56 We do that it seems like a half a dozen
3:58 times and miss them. I don't see the
4:01 bait flickering or
4:02 nothing. I'm going to try to visually
4:05 pinpoint it and just run straight to it
4:08 pretty quick and I'll throw and that's
4:10 the only way we can catch it. Right.
4:11 Right there. Right there. Right there.
4:13 Not hard to get right at him.
4:23 [Music]
4:34 We don't give up. We got
4:38 them. I think this is it here.
4:44 [Music]
4:49 [Applause]
4:52 [Music]
4:54 It just goes to show, you know, we could
4:56 have ran all over the ocean, but we
4:57 stayed here. We sat right here. The
4:59 birds were here. The bait was just down
5:01 deep. Um, there was no sense keep
5:03 running around up and down the beach
5:05 chasing this bait around. It was just a
5:06 matter of hanging out here, waiting for
5:08 it to surface, seeing it flip, throw a
5:10 net on it. After probably about an hour
5:12 and a half, it was a struggle for me,
5:13 Chris, and Adam today. The pelicans
5:15 weren't diving. They were just sitting
5:16 on the water. Saw a few birds working up
5:19 real high, a couple diving, and uh we
5:22 slipped up here on them. Adam kind of
5:23 ran up on them pretty fast and I threw a
5:25 net, but managed to get a handful. So,
5:26 we're getting ready to go fishing, turn
5:28 them into some big old hammer jacks.

6:33 boats. After searching for bait for over
6:36 an hour, the crew was coming up empty.
6:39 But their perseverance paid off, and now
6:42 the guys are ready to get the lines in
6:44 the water and reel in some big amber
6:54 jacks right there. Important to get him
6:57 in the water
7:01 fast. about this one motor in gear right
7:04 there. We just arrived to the fishing
7:06 grounds. We're about 25 miles offshore
7:08 and uh we're getting ready to get some
7:09 pogies rigged up and hopefully have some
7:11 action here pretty soon. We're fix
7:12 fishing over actually a wreck. We're in
7:14 about 70 ft of water. So when we hook
7:16 these big jacks, it's pretty important
7:18 to put a little bit of heat on them to
7:19 kind of get them off the wreck. If not,
7:21 these fish are very strong and they're
7:22 going to pull us right down to the wreck
7:24 and uh bust us off. Come on. Come here.
7:27 Crank it
7:29 up. Yep. Get it up.
7:32 Got him
7:33 on. Here you go. Take that butt rod to
7:36 the bow. Take the
7:40 bow. Okay. Wind on. I'm heading to
7:51 it. All right. We got
7:59 color. Take your time with him.
8:03 Can't see what we got
8:09 there. Nice. King mackerel. Get right in
8:12 the
8:13 [Music]
8:14 water. Keep ride in the
8:19 water. King fish. It wasn't too long. Uh
8:24 he had him up beside the boat and I hit
8:26 him with the gaff. He had a nice uh
8:27 legalized king fish. Really good to eat.
8:30 So, we put him in the box. Had this game
8:31 mackerel hook up pretty quick. Uh, they
8:35 fall a little bit, but got him right to
8:36 the boat way gaffed him. And we're here
8:40 amberjack fishing. So, we're going to
8:42 get a rigs back out and hopefully get on
8:43 some amberjack. But, this one here is
8:45 going to be good smoked up and we'll eat
8:47 him later on this week for
8:49 sure. King Mack. This is definitely a
8:52 good start to the day here on the long
8:54 shot. So, we're still trolling around
8:55 the outskirts of the wreck. got all the
8:58 lines back out and it wasn't just a a
9:00 few minutes. Uh, another one went off
9:03 and this one was pulling a little harder
9:04 but wasn't making the long runs on top
9:06 the water. It was digging down a little
9:08 deeper. Had a feeling in it definitely
9:10 wasn't a king mackerel usually. I said
9:12 Jack when he feels a little bit of drag
9:13 off and keeps going down deep like that.
9:15 So Chris jumped on the rod and and uh he
9:18 put it on him pretty hard. Well, after
9:20 getting out there, um Wade, um actually
9:24 had brought in some some new reels that
9:26 we weren't really familiar with, but
9:27 they were actually spinning reels that
9:29 we used uh for this offshore fishing
9:32 trip. And uh exciting to use. They were
9:36 uh very easy to use because you could
9:38 actually uh pull a lot harder on them.
9:40 And so that was one of the uh one of the
9:42 highlights of the trip because most time
9:44 when you're using the old bait casting
9:46 rods, it's kind of tough to get these
9:48 big fish in. And then with these new
9:50 spinning rods that Wade brought on
9:52 board, uh it was just an exciting time
9:54 and it was a lot more enjoyable to catch
9:57 these big fish with these spinning rods.
10:00 It wasn't a big enough jack to keep. It
10:02 was a smaller one, but this is
10:03 definitely a good sign. Less than a few
10:05 minutes, 10 minutes into the trip, we've
10:07 already hooked two
10:08 fish. Super nice little fish. He's not
10:12 not as big as the ones we're going to
10:14 keep a couple of these. So, we're going
10:15 to actually get him back into the water
10:17 and get him back in. But this is what we
10:19 came out for. These greater amberjacks.
10:22 This one's about maybe uh 15 to 20 lbs.
10:25 Let's get him back in the water. And so
10:28 uh maybe be another day.
10:43 We're all three taking turns, you know,
10:45 each gaffing the fish, running the
10:47 camera, running the boat. Uh, we all
10:49 three got our hands full. We just kind
10:50 of rotate. So, um, I'm up to bat next as
10:54 the rod goes off. About that time, rod
10:56 goes off again. There he is.
11:01 [Music]
11:15 Yeah, I feel like we got a nice hammer
11:17 jack hooked up right here on this light
11:18 tackle. A lot of
11:19 fun. I missed him twice and he came
11:22 back, got another pokey, rigged it real
11:24 fast, pitched it to him and he took
11:34 it. That good.
11:40 To keep up with all the fishing action,
11:42 check us out on the

11:55 brought to you

12:03 confidence.
12:07 Before the break on Longot TV, I'm just
12:12 making little tight circles right on top
12:14 the wreck and the ride goes peeling off.
12:17 This is what we came out for. These
12:18 greater amberjacks. We're all three
12:20 taking turns. You know, each scaffing
12:22 the fish, run the camera, running the
12:24 boat. Uh we all three got our hands
12:26 full. We just kind of rotate. Yeah, I
12:28 feel like we got a nice hammer jack
12:30 hooked up right here on this light
12:32 tackle.
12:34 That
12:40 good
12:44 [Music]
13:00 mother.
13:19 Another nice amber jack right here on
13:21 the the long shot. This is what we came
13:23 after today. Uh these ain't the biggest
13:25 ones. Hopefully we'll get some bigger
13:26 ones a little bit later on. It's
13:28 probably 15lb jack, but they're a lot of
13:30 fun to catch. Put up a good fight. And I
13:32 know there's some big ones here. So,
13:34 we're going to release him and uh
13:35 hopefully get back on some
13:39 [Music]
13:41 more. So, we already got three fish to
13:44 the boat. Two jacks and one king. This
13:46 is This is a great day. I look up and
13:49 this boat's working its way off the
13:50 wreck like it's coming up beside me. And
13:53 uh recognize the guy from the dock where
13:55 we tie up at and he's asking if we do
13:57 anything. And I told him we've caught a
13:58 few fish. And uh he said he's he's
14:01 leaving. It's been dead here all day.
14:03 And he had a charter. And um so I just
14:05 said, "Well, we caught a few. Wasn't
14:07 going to lie to the guy, but I said,
14:08 "We're catching a few. They're biting a
14:09 little bit." He's like, "We're going to
14:10 roll on to another wreck. Ain't much
14:12 going on here." I'm like, "Okay, you
14:13 know, good luck to you guys. Hope you
14:15 catch them." But in the back of my head,
14:17 I I just knew the guy didn't have the
14:19 right bait where he was fishing at. I
14:20 knew we had a live wall full of uh
14:23 pogies and you couldn't ask for a better
14:25 bait here for these big fish on this
14:30 wreck. Adam said going
14:35 down these advertise will run on you
14:41 fighters. I hope you don't get back in
14:43 that red.
14:46 Oh yeah, I see a couple more
14:49 [Music]
14:56 [Applause]
14:58 [Music]
15:02 behind trying to teach him how to break
15:06 [Music]
15:08 dance. Third amberjack of the day. I
15:11 think this one's going to be a keeper.
15:13 They got to be over 36 in. Going in the
15:23 box right now.
15:29 Usually when we get one or two on, we'll
15:31 clear the other lines where we don't
15:32 have tangles and building bird nest and
15:35 stuff. So, uh, Chris is fighting this
15:36 fish up on the bow. And then as I see
15:38 these other jacks school behind the
15:40 boat, I rig another bait up and pitch it
15:42 over the over the jacks off the back of
15:44 the boat, hoping they'd see the bait hit
15:46 the water and go after it. And it wasn't
15:49 just a couple seconds that rod went
15:51 screaming off. God, that was fast.
15:54 [Music]
16:00 [Music]
16:06 Chris's jack uh kind of got the best of
16:08 him, took him down to the wreck and cut
16:10 him off. So, I was fighting this fish
16:11 and thought it was a jack at first, but
16:14 the closer it got to the boat, I could
16:16 see down the water, you know, 30 or 40
16:18 ft and it had a lot of shine to
16:20 [Music]
16:23 it. Was like a little tuna, but uh we
16:26 got him upside the boat and it actually
16:28 was a bonita. really no good to eat in
16:31 my book. But we put him in the boat and
16:33 uh we're going to save them for some
16:34 bait later. They make great bait.
16:35 Whether you're shark fishing or if
16:37 you're trolling offshore, you can cut
16:38 the belly strips out of them. They make
16:40 great baits.

17:58 [Music]
18:00 Hey, behind the boat. Behind the boat.
18:01 Behind the boat. Look at this. Look at
18:02 this. Look at
18:04 this. Got him on here. Got here. Take
18:08 it.
18:10 [Music]
18:23 Wow. That old face on, I believe. I got
18:27 a couple right here. Hold
18:29 on. Oh, yeah. There they are.
18:33 [Music]
18:47 Well, Chris just boated another nice
18:49 amberjack. Uh, we're having an awesome
18:50 day here. Catch caught a lot of fish.
18:52 You couldn't ask for a better day. Seek
18:54 conditions are perfect. A little bit of
18:55 chop in the water, which helps
18:56 camouflage the baits a little bit. And
18:58 Chris, you got a really nice jack, but I
19:00 still think mine's a little bigger. I
19:01 think so, too. So, let's let this one
19:03 back in and
19:05 maybe be a little bit bigger one.
19:08 Trolling back up on top the wreck here.
19:10 And uh these amberjacks are definitely
19:12 uh starting to get in a feeding frenzy.
19:14 We got them definitely fired up pitching
19:15 all these live baits out and and they're
19:17 schooling up right behind the boat
19:19 pretty thick. There he goes. Boom. Yeah.
19:21 Yeah. Boom. That's all it takes when you
19:22 throw a couple pokés over Chris and
19:24 they'll swim right up to the bait on the
19:25 rod. Walk right over the side.
19:31 [Music]
19:37 Here they come. Check him out. Check him
19:39 out.
19:52 Yeah. Oh man. I got him. I got him. Got
19:58 him. Here. I'm swinging right here. I
20:01 got him. Right back on
20:02 [Music]
20:06 bait. Come on. Down side.
20:09 We got a school of school of amberjack
20:13 to the boat. We got this one on board.
20:15 Wade hooked up to another one right
20:17 before I got this one on. He had to help
20:19 me out. So, that one's feeling drag off.
20:22 I think Wade's got it set back a little
20:24 bit, but we about to reel him in. We
20:26 actually videoed this
20:28 one taking the
20:30 [Music]
20:35 baits. Wow. This last one that I got a
20:38 hold of, I mean, he took everything that
20:41 I could possibly have to get him up to
20:42 the top of the boat. Probably um called
20:46 him for a good 15 to 20
20:54 minutes. Put some pressure on your
20:57 [Music]
21:01 rod. That's what we're after right
21:02 there. That's the big one. This fish was
21:04 probably 55 to 60 lb. What an incredible
21:07 fish. That's amberjack, guys. That's
21:10 what we're after. Wow. We actually uh
21:14 filmed this one. Uh uh taking the bait.
21:17 I thought Chris was messing me about the
21:18 big one. Huh. I've been giving a hard
21:20 time. I caught the big one today and
21:22 Chris been catching a bunch of little
21:23 ones, but he's definitely got me beat
21:25 here. So, this is your fish. I'm going
21:26 to let you hold him.
21:32 Well, you get
21:37 He is a big one. Check him out,
21:41 guys. Big
21:43 amberjack. Another one bites.
21:49 [Music]
