the TDOT mm cr4 Island left civil cell
requires six reference lines to place
the mainline edge of pavement
the Side Road Center Line
the intersection edge of pavement
the mainline Ada ramp Center Line
the Side Road Ada ramp Center Line
the Ada ramp center lines need to be
laid out manually before placing this
civil cell
the ramp center lines should not have a profile
profile
the center lines do not have to be
perfect before placing the ramp but it
is helpful for the Civil cell if the
designer has already planned out the
intersection in 2D using microstation tools
it is best to start with the mainline
Ada ramp Center Line and align that with
the theoretical crosswalk location
in this scenario that means placing a
line that is a five foot offset from the
median opening line that runs
perpendicular to the main line Center Line
then it is best to define the center
line of the Side Road Ada ramp that
then place the Ada ramp Center Line that
the three ramp Center Line elements must
extend past each other in order for the
open the place civil cell tool and then
open the Civil cell library
once the Civil cell library is open open

selecting the plus sign to the left of

a preview of the Civil cell will now
appear and reference line directions can
the mainline edge of pavement should be
going from left to right I.E upstation
the Side Road Center Line should be
going from bottom to top I.E away from
the main line
the intersection edge of pavement should
be going from bottom to top I.E away
from the center line
all ramp center lines should be facing

review the placement in 2D and 3D to
the cells should be in pretty good shape
if enough space has been provided for
the Ada ramps inside the island
this cell will break if the island is
less than eight feet deep in any direction
direction
in instances with smaller Islands the
this cell will also break if the Ada
ramp center lines on the main line and
the side road are closer than seven feet
from the mainline edge of pavement for
the Side Road Ada Center Line and seven
feet from the side road through Lane for
the cell by default approximates the
surface of the intersection cell
the first thing to do is to make sure it
do this by opening the profile model of
the element Island control
then use the quick profile from surface
tool and select the intersection Terrain
in the 3D view to quickly pull that profile
profile
the surface profile will now show in the
profile view
set the surface profile to the active profile
review the island in 3D and see how it
perfectly aligns with the intersection
for these next steps it is recommended
that designers turn off all levels but
by default all Ada ramp flares are set
to six feet long which meets the Ada
guidelines for level roadways
designers should review the profiles of
all flare elements in order to ensure
that the Ada Max slope is met
look for the elements with Flare control
in the name in order to adjust the flare
designers should review the profiles of
all ramps to ensure that the Ada Max
slope is met
look for the elements with ramp length
control in the name in order to adjust
by default ramp widths are set to 4 feet
to change this look for elements with
turn on the level design Tran curb and gutter

to change the island Corner radii locate
the element Island control
each radii is set to three feet by default
