Hey David, what were your favorite songs
this year? Also, I hope you have a very
merry Christmas and a happy new year.
>> Thank you, Peter. Merry Christmas.
People are consistently asking me, "Hey,
what are your top 40 songs? What are
your top 40 songs?" I'm It's It's
getting to a point where I'm being
stopped in public. I'm trying to go
about my day-to-day life and people are
just stopping me when when I'm in my
business. I was in the drive-thru the
other day. I was like, "Can I get a Big
Mac?" They said, "Can we get a big
list?" I said, "Fine." the top 40 songs
that I've heard this year. All right,
I'm going to be picking all different
artists here just so the list isn't like
just six different people. I'm not going
to be doing an album video because I
have not heard enough. The albums that I
enjoyed most are in this list anyways
and I'll be talking about those. So,
okay. If you're new to the channel, feel
free to like and subscribe if you want
to. All right. I'll be doing a lot of
work here in 2026. So, it's going to be
a busy busy year. Coming in at 40, I got
underscores with Do It. This is the
first underscore song I ever heard. So,
I'm I'm I'm late to the party for sure,
but I like this song a lot. Very quirky
production. I loved her vocals on here.
I feel like I'm missing out for sure. I
mean, she I I know she had a record back
in 2023.
Three three was it? It was the It was
the shoe I saw cuz I I got to hear more.
This was great. Uh super infectious
song. Next, I have Always Were by Joanne
Robertson and Oliver Coats um off of her
record Blur. I was stunned to learn that
she had an album in the first place
because I I didn't know that she did
[ __ ] outside of Dean Blunt's Black Metal
Records. I thought that he just kept her
in a cage and then brought her out
whenever he needed her. You know, I was
pleasantly surprised by, you know, this
song and a couple other songs off here.
I didn't get to hear the entire thing.
Uh but yeah, very melancholic and
depressing. You know, really, really
soul crushing track. Next, I have Earl
Sweatshirt with Exhaust. This was the
outro off of Live, Laugh, Love. I really
[ __ ] with how this album closed out,
especially because of all that Earl went
through. I think hearing him on a track
like this just made me feel, you know,
really good. I love his vocals on here.
I I think the production is super clean.
Just such a just such a heartwarming
track from him. Next, I got Billy Woods
with Misery. It was a It was a tough
time picking a track off uh this album
by him cuz each song is just so
terrifying and so many different ways,
but I got to go with Misery here. Really
chilling produ Wow, really chilling
production and I don't know, it just
kind of speaks to me. Next, I got Fred
again, Skept Max with the victory lap.
No joke. I think this is a banger. All
right, I'm just gonna keep it there. All
right, I think Skept I think Skeptic
goes crazy here. Next up, I got Dean
Blunt and Elias Ronenfelt. Sorry if I'm
pronouncing the name wrong. I apologize.
Tears on Rings and Clothes. I think
Elias vocals on here are super strong.
Plus, it has that Dean Blunt magic
behind that production. So, just a great
track. Next, I got Back to Friends by
Somber. Um, I I'm not really a Somber
head, to be honest. Um, every every
other song that I' I've happened to hear
by him, I hasn't really stuck with me.
I'm just not really moved by him in
general, but I I this song is I think is
just undeniably good. His vocal
harmonies on here are super strong. I I
like the production. It's great. I don't
know. Next, I have a track by Naked
Flame. Shout out to Naked Flames.
Dropped a six-hour album this year. Uh,
I've only heard a small fraction of it.
Undisputed Attitude. I think it's a
banger. All right. Lot of lot of crazy
[ __ ] jam-packed into here. I love the
sample usage. Next, I got a track off of
Turquoise Death's record. Shout out to
Turquoise Death, who actually watches
the channel. Dropped a super solid drum
and bass record this year, but I think
it's it's it's so much more than that.
Him and someone exfalls collaborated on
a track. I I I don't know if that's your
name, bro. Collaborated on a track
called Voyager. This happened to be my
favorite one off the record, but I
honestly could have picked any track off
here. Next, I got Icho Aoba with
Lucifer. I think that's how it's
pronounced. I don't know. I could be I
could be wrong, but you know, typical
typical Ichi Koyoba experience making
you feel like you're levitating and
weightless. So, this is just a just a
great track. I feel like there's so much
substance here. Next, I got a song off
the Quad Deca record, which everyone has
been raving about this year. I got a at
a time like this, um, I like this track.
I love the way it starts off immediately
crazy. Um, I the production here is is
super super just mindbending and it's
just awesome. Just an awesome track and
I love how it looks in the film music
video as well. Next, I got Infinite
Source by Def Tones. This is just such a
solid record and return to form by these
guys. To me, this was the banger of the
record. I think the chorus here on this
song is incredible. Really reminds me of
some [ __ ] from [ __ ] Co Yokoon. So,
just this was just a great time. I
really [ __ ] with this song. Next, I got
Burial with Koma Fields. Listen, man. If
you know if it's Burial, I'm there. So,
I I wasn't surprised when I heard this
and I knew I was going to like it and I
did. just more more peak from burial.
Man, this is just a great great song. I
only heard a couple songs off the
Natalyia Laforcade record. I think
that's how you pronounce her name. I
don't know. Uh Canera, but the title
track off that record was beautiful. I'm
way too late to the whole experience. I
got to I got to I got to catch up. But [laughter]
[laughter]
uh that song was just incredible. I love
how intimate it felt. Next, I got
Automatic Love by Nourished by Time. I'm
not going to lie. I just heard the song
for the first time like 3 days ago. But
uh I've been listening to it non-stop.
Talk about another record I think I'm
missing out on this year because the
kind of wonky and eerie production in
the beginning going into a very no dream
poppy [ __ ] state. I think it just
flows together so well and I love I love
how he says deja vo. Next I have a song
off the Ethel Kane record which I have
missed out on but um I do know Nettles
which is kind of being praised as the
song off the record and you know it
deserves all the praise because just so
such a beautiful track. Why the [ __ ]
does my computer sound like a car engine
You hear that? My god. Next, I got a
track off the Candal Labro record. I'm
pronouncing these wrong. I'm sorry, but
um De Cara. All right. The vocal
performances on this track blow me away
and the batshit crazy instrumental
through after the second half of the
song. Really just blow my mind. All
right. So, this was just a such a great
ride. Next, I got Magdalene Bay with
Second Sleep. when I was going into all
these singles, you know, I I I wasn't
expecting to hear anything on the same
quality as Imaginal disc. So, imagine my
surprise when I when I heard Second
Sleep and it was it was peak. So, I I I
don't know how they keep consistently
beating my ass, beating my ears. Uh but
this this was just it's such a good
song. I don't know how to pronounce the
track off the [ __ ] Mara record. >> Certa
>> Certa
>> that love the song on the album. It's
such a beautiful change of pace. I love
this uh saxophone. What that's doing? I
think it's a saxophone. Uh his vocals
and his lyrics are super beautiful,
super meaningful, just a great song.
Such a great song. And it's just it's
such a good song to sing along to when
you're in the car with. Next, I got
Playboy Cardi with Crank. This was a
this was the banger on the album for me.
So, we're going with this one. Not too
much notes here. Top 20. Top 20. Um this
is like this is like the fifth time
saying I haven't heard the whole record.
I I am yet to hear the entire Rosalier
record, but I had I I just I couldn't
wait to hear Berg Hane because I saw
Eve's Tumor and Burek and I was like,
"Holy [ __ ] I got to hear that." And it
was nothing. It was nothing like how I
thought it was going to sound. Classical
joint. It was like she's speaking
German, Spanish, [snorts] and then it's
it's also English because of Burk. And
the meaning of the song from what I got
from the music video is that she's dying
or something. I don't know. I didn't
translate the lyrics. I don't know what
it's about, but it's just like the
chorus on that [ __ ] just goes so crazy.
And um I don't know, man. But just the
strings on here, I I don't know. I don't
know like how she even did this. I don't
know that she was the type to go into
this lane. Um I I didn't even know this
lane was still, you know, really a
thing. You know, this this really sounds
so cinematic, like it should be in a
[ __ ] movie. I feel like I've heard it
before. Next, I got to chalk off Blood
Orange's record, Essex Honey, which uh I
like this record a lot. It's not my
favorite blood orange record, but I
think it's super strong here. The
features did their thing on this.
Countryside is definitely my favorite
track off the record. I think the guitar
work on here was incredible. The
background vocals are amazing. And yeah,
it's just an instant dopamine hit
whenever I listen to this song. So, next
I got Pink Panther S with Stateside. I
don't know what it is with this song.
Some of it just sounds so familiar. I
don't know what song it kind of calls
from. Uh such a catchy catchy song. So,
I'm big I'm big on this song. I'm big on
her. Next, I got Low Tech with Dark
Thoughts. Yep, I'm dead ass. Next, I got
the outro off the Djon record. This was
just incredible. I I love the production
on this album from start to finish, but
this song really is just so intoxicating
with the guitar work and the way his
vocals are just kind of sewed into the
track. Next, I got Joji with Pass Won't
Leave My Bed. This feels like a massive
return to form from him. I was enjoying
this. I'm super satisfied that he's back
here. I don't know where the [ __ ] bro
was. I don't know where he went, but
it's good to see him back. Next, I got a
track from the Justin Bieber record. If
you know me, you know that I loved that
album. Although there were some dull
moments. I think the most majority of it
was super strong. I don't know. I was
just really feeling that when it
released. But I think the title track is
my favorite off the record. It's just so
catchy and I just it stuck in my head
till this day. So, that's a good one. I
got Storm Show from 10 Tricks Point
Never. It's amazing how how busy of a
year he's having with Tranquilizer and
the Marty Supreme score. So, I'm excited
to see that movie, which I'm seeing
tomorrow. I really don't have a specific
favorite off this record. For now, it's
going to be Storm Show, but I feel like
it could go either or just the way this
record is, it's more per I I prefer it
more as a, you know, a whole entire
listening experience rather than me
picking out a song as I like that I do
from other records. But yeah, no, this
dude is a synth wizard. Um, every song
in here back toback was just
mind-blowing. This one really is just
kind of sticking with me the mo most
right now. I don't know how he does this
[ __ ] with since, man. I I I I feel like
a piece of [ __ ] Next, I got my girl um
how do I stutter on N? Who does that? Um
next I got my girl Ninja Gerachi with
Delete. Love the way this song is paced.
Love the playful lyrics. I think it's
super fun. It's just just an amazing
song and her vocals on it are probably
the best I I on the record. I think the
production has some really high moments
on this song as well. So, I'm loving it.
I'm loving it. Next, I got IA off the
clips record. This is easily my favorite
song off of here. The way Fel starts off
that song and kicks it off is just I I
never get tired of it. This track just
feels, you know, like foot on the pedal
from start to finish. I just love it so
much. I don't know why. And it's just a
production is just it's just so
dramatic. Top 10. Yay. I I got Mac
Miller with Stoned. The record was made
years ago and this song was as well, but
I feel like it's it's just so
underrated. It should be talked about
more, especially a song like this
because it just feels so classic Mac.
Miller, I feel like it should be way
more way more popular than it is. The
guitar work on the on the chorus of this
song is just so nice. It's so smooth.
This song is just a buttery and uh yeah,
I can't get enough of this one. Next, I
got Tower the Creator with Sugar on My
Tongue part. I thought Don't Tap the
Glass was pretty good, you know. But
this song really blew me away. I feel
like this would be one of the best
songs, if not the best song on
Chromacopia if it was released on there.
You know, this song alongside Nokia.
Wait, Nokia? I [ __ ] I forgot about
Nokia, bro. I forgot about Nokia. Nokia
would be on this list like top 15. I I
really feel like we're just in a state
with mainstream hip-hop where artists
are going into more dance songs because
I think I think people just want to
dance. And of course, they're breathing
from my humps, you know? It's I I like
how I like how you pulled it from that
song. One second. I'm getting a boss call.
call. Hello.
Hello.
Oh, what's that? Oh, we are using the
Cameron Winter record from last year.
That qualifies. Well, I'll tell them.
Thank you. Since the Carnegie Hall
performance, this record has kind of
been revived. So, I'm reviving it
myself. I'm going with Drinking Age. All
right. From Heavy Metal. I don't know
what else I can say about Cameron Winter
that hasn't been said in 2025, so I'll
keep it brief, but this was just
incredible. I love the part when he goes
off the record. So, that's my favorite
moment off off the from the year. Next,
I got Freddy Gibbs, The Alchemist with
Shanganger. Uh, this is this is one of
my albums of the year. It would be top
three. I was going to do Gast Sushi
1995, but this this is the one that
really clicks with me the most. Just the
way it starts off. Insane. So chill, so
crazy. Plus, Gibbs' flow on here is so
nuts. I just love everything about this
song. At six, I got Jane Remover's Dream
Flasher. This is an anthem for sure.
This is just such such a banger of a
song. Whenever whenever I go to listen
to it and relisten to it, I always end
up being surprised with how much I like
it more than than um more than how much
I did before. Uh this just this track
continues to grow in me. I think it's
definitely the best off of Revenge
Seekers and this and you could just tell
there's so much effort and detail being
being put in into the production here
and the vocals and the chorus is just so
catchy and so funny. So, this is this is
great. Top five. Top five. I got first
up, I got Panda Bear with Anywhere but
here. Incredible record from Panda Bear.
I love the guitar work on this song
specifically. It's just so devastating
and the way the way it progresses just
kills me. Uh, his vocal harmonies on
here are so fantastic. And the little
girl I is that his daughter? Someone
told me it was someone told me it was
his daughter in the little interlude
parts of the song speaking Portuguese.
Feel like whenever I listen to this
song, I'm just transported to a
completely completely different world.
And uh, yeah, this is just such a
banger. Next, I got FakeMink. Uh, love
Fmink Fever. I got to say, I think right
now Fakem is the most important person
in the music industry. Um, real real
gamechanging [ __ ] being done by fake in
2025. It was hard picking a song, but uh
this is just it's this is like crack.
Next, I got a track from Geese. Uh, how
do uh plays cocaine. I know it's the
most popular song off the record. I
don't give a [ __ ] This might be my
favorite songwriting from Cameron period
from Geese. Um, I think that the little
vocal moment on the song when he says,
"You can still choose me." When his
voice gets like raspy for a second, like
that moment on the song really just
kills me. plus the music video with the
baby. I mean, come on. That that was
that that was cute. But yeah, I cannot
wait to see where this band continues to
go. Uh the direction that they've been
in is just so insane, and I'm glad that
they're finally getting the recognition
that they deserve. Next, I got a track
from The Weekend's record, Hurry Up
Tomorrow. My favorite track personally
is my Niagara Falls. I love the way the
vocal sample was is being mixed and cut
up into the song. Plus, it has such a
legendary transition into the next song.
The synth work on here is incredible.
The production is amazing. really feels
like some of the weekend's best stuff.
Really? Number one, I got Cali man from
SDK and Rico Ace. Just it's so
undeniable. It's just so This is just so
good. This is just so good. There's just
something here. There's something
special going on here. Yeah. This This
is like This is like lightning in a
[ __ ] bottle. You know what I mean?
This is just It's just crazy work. So,
I've just never heard a rapper sound
like this. I've just never heard a
rapper sound like this. It's just so
new. It's so refreshing. Uh, and I'm
looking forward to see where he goes in
2026 with this sound to be honest. I
think everything on here has just been
quality so far. And to me, it's just so
impressive how he can, you know, do
these big films like Marty Supreme and,
you know, be be a rapper at the same
time, you know? I find that incredible.
