0:02 you're not a procrastinator you have a
0:06 habit of procrastinating big difference
0:10 because if it's a habit I can teach you
0:20 to use science to break it so let's talk
0:22 a little bit about procrastination who
0:24 in here struggles with procrastination
0:26 yeah and the rest of you that are
0:27 trading your hand or just
0:29 procrastinating on doing it aren't you I
0:30 know you see I always thought
0:32 procrastination had to do with the thing
0:34 I was procrastinating around right like
0:36 that procrastination has something to do
0:38 with work believe it or not
0:40 procrastination has nothing to do with
0:44 your work procrastination is a form of
0:47 stress relief let me explain this so
0:49 let's say that you've got some stuff
0:51 going on in your life and heck who
0:52 doesn't have stuff going on in your life
0:54 maybe you're fighting with your
0:57 significant other maybe moms or dads
0:59 health is failing and it's really really
1:02 upsetting you maybe you've got some
1:03 financial stuff you put too much of your
1:05 savings into Bitcoin and now that that's
1:07 crashed you're stressed out about it
1:09 right and so you go into work and when
1:12 you get into work you got stuff to do
1:13 you kind of walk in and you got this big
1:16 stress ball that subconsciously is
1:18 hanging over your head and so you walk
1:21 in and you sit down and you know you've
1:23 got 13 phone calls you need to make and
1:24 you also know that you've been
1:26 chickening out you've been making easy
1:28 calls and there's a bunch of CIOs or
1:29 other people that are higher level that
1:31 you haven't been calling and so as you
1:33 sit down to do it you've got the stress
1:35 on your shoulders your brain that it
1:36 starts to go wait a minute what you want
1:38 me to make a call to somebody that I'm
1:41 scared to make absolutely not I'm so
1:42 stressed out about can we just watch
1:45 some cat videos for a minute and next
1:48 thing you know an hours gone by and then
1:49 of course what do you do you beat
1:51 yourself up so the only way that you can
1:55 break this habit and that's an important
1:57 word for you to hear you're not a
2:00 procrastinator you have a habit of
2:04 procrastinating big difference because
2:07 if it's a habit I can teach you to use
2:09 science to break it you see all habits
2:11 have three parts there's a trigger and
2:13 in the case of procrastination the
2:16 triggers always stress then there's a
2:18 pattern you repeat and in the case of
2:21 procrastination it is to avoid doing
2:24 something and then there's a reward you
2:27 get a little stress relief the only way
2:29 to break a habit you guys is not to deal
2:32 with the triggers you're never gonna get
2:34 rid of the stress in your life but you
2:38 can 100% change your pattern of avoiding
2:40 work so next time that you're in a
2:42 situation where you feel yourself
2:44 hesitate you spent way too much time
2:45 checking out the highlights from last
2:47 night's scores what you're gonna do is
2:49 you're gonna go up I must be stressed
2:51 out about something acknowledge the
2:54 stress then go 5 4 3 2 1
2:56 I want you to count to yourself because
2:57 I want you to interrupt the habit that's
2:59 stored here and I want you to awaken
3:02 your prefrontal cortex then I want you
3:04 to just work just for five minutes the
3:06 reason why I want you to only work for
3:08 five minutes is because your problem
3:12 isn't working it's the habit of avoiding
3:14 I just need you to start and here's the
3:17 other cool thing we know based on
3:19 research that if we can get you to start
3:24 80% of you are going to keep going [Music]
