0:24 Hello and welcome to Dorsa's Golf Club.
0:27 Well, you guys, I'm so glad to be back.
0:30 It has been a while. I had some really
0:33 great time off and I am so thrilled to
0:37 be back. We went up to Kiwana Mountain
0:40 Lodge up in Copper Harbor, Michigan. And
0:42 I know I have talked with you all about
0:46 Kiwana and how special it is. And we had
0:49 a fantastic time. I cannot wait to tell
0:52 you more about our time there. Um I
0:55 think I will talk about it a lot more um
0:57 in a later episode. this week. I'm going
1:00 to release a second episode this week on
1:03 Friday because I have a lot to cover
1:06 today and and I have a lot more to cover
1:09 regarding the countdown to the crown,
1:11 the international crown as you all know
1:15 coming up in October. And so to fit in
1:17 everything that I want to talk about and
1:18 everything that has been going on while
1:21 I was gone, I need to talk about a lot
1:25 today and um cover a lot over the next
1:27 few weeks leading up to the
1:31 international crowns. But I just want to
1:34 say how delightful my time off was at QAnon.
1:36 QAnon.
1:38 Oh, so if you don't know, Copper Harbor
1:42 is up in the Upper Peninsula in
1:46 Michigan. And the Upper Peninsula, I was
1:47 going to say grab a map, but probably
1:50 just on your cell phone, look up the UP.
1:54 And then the UP has a peninsula, several
1:56 peninsulas, but the largest peninsula
2:00 that juts into Lake Superior. And at the
2:03 very farthest point of that is Copper
2:06 Harbor, Michigan. And Kiwana Mountain
2:09 Lodge has the golf course that is the
2:14 farthest north golf course in Michigan.
2:17 And so we stayed there at Kiwana
2:21 Mountain Lodge and played golf. And it
2:22 was so beautiful. The leaves were
2:25 turning and the weather was beautiful.
2:28 And we just had such a relaxing nice
2:31 time. There were so many beautiful birds
2:36 out and we saw deer and it just was so
2:38 so peaceful. Everyone had gone back to
2:40 school and so there were not many people
2:43 there staying and so it was quiet and
2:44 peaceful and relaxing. And Copper
2:48 Harbor, the town there is I mean it's so
2:50 small but so cute. A few little
2:52 restaurants that were still open and
2:54 then a wonderful bookstore called
2:58 Grandpa's Barn. And so it's actually a
3:01 barn that is a bookstore. I haven't
3:04 actually finished a book in a very long
3:06 time other than listening to audiobooks
3:10 as I'm making long commutes driving and
3:14 uh so I read two books very quickly
3:17 front to back which was a record for me
3:19 for this year and in a long time
3:21 unfortunately I used to read all the
3:24 time. So read two books very quickly got
3:27 lots of sleep. played golf and we
3:30 decided that really the way that we play
3:34 golf, we like to play our 18 holes over
3:38 two days, basically nine holes one day,
3:40 have a day in between, and then finish
3:43 up our our round of 18 holes on the
3:45 second day with a day in between. That's
3:47 how we got in our 18 holes of golf. They
3:50 have a wonderful nine-hole golf course
3:52 there at Kiwana and they used to have 18
3:56 holes at some point. um converted the
3:58 back nine. It's now all trails,
4:01 wonderful hiking trails. And then in the
4:02 winter you can go snowshoeing and
4:05 cross-country skiing. And I'm dying to
4:06 get up there sometime in the winter.
4:09 I've never been snowshoeing and I really
4:11 would like to. But yeah, it it is a
4:14 fantastic location up there. So, I'll
4:16 tell you a lot more about the trip and
4:19 everything about the wonderful mountain
4:21 lodge up there. But there's so much to
4:24 cover today. So, let me go ahead and get
4:27 into it. While we were gone, uh there
4:29 were a couple different tournaments. So,
4:31 the first weekend that we were gone,
4:34 which was September through 14th, was
4:36 the first tournament that I had missed.
4:40 So, that was the Kroger Queen City
4:42 Championship and that was played in
4:45 Cincinnati, Ohio. That tournament was
4:49 won by Charlie Hull and that evidently
4:51 ended up being a very exciting
4:54 tournament, a very exciting ending with
4:57 Charlie Hull winning. So Charlie has
5:02 only won, this is now her third LPGA win
5:05 in her entire career. Her last win with
5:09 the LPGA was back in 2022 and then her
5:11 first win with the LPGA was back in
5:14 2016. So, she's had to wait a while
5:17 since her last win in 2022. Okay. So,
5:20 very similar to the way that Gino ended
5:22 the previous tournament there in Boston.
5:25 So, the FM championship there in Boston
5:28 with her and Miranda Wong where Gino
5:30 came in second and it was her and
5:32 Miranda Wong kind of battling it out
5:35 till the very end and Gino lost by one
5:38 point. It was very similar with Gino and
5:42 Charlie Hull here in the uh Kroger Queen
5:45 City Championship. And again, Gino lost
5:48 by one point. And so Gino Titakun from
5:51 Thailand, Charlie Hull is from England.
5:54 And the two of them were battling it out
5:56 up till the very last hole on the very
6:00 last day. And they had come up to the
6:03 18th. Gino had a one-shot lead entering
6:06 the 18th. And so she evidently had
6:09 reached the green I guess in two in two
6:11 shots and this was a par five on the
6:16 18th and so she could have won you know
6:18 I don't know about fairly easily I don't
6:20 know where exactly she had landed but
6:24 she could have won Charlie had come up
6:26 you know to the to the green the problem
6:31 was evidently Gino then four putted
6:34 four putted
6:37 to then get in the hole on the 18th.
6:39 Oh my goodness. And so she bogeied. So I
6:43 mean on the very last hole to four putt
6:46 for a bogey and and then Charlie birdied
6:50 the same hole. And so Charlie won by one
6:52 point. And so she finished at 20 under
6:55 and Gino finished at 19 under. So it
6:57 came down to that very last hole. Oh
7:00 man, I feel I feel for Gino. This is now
7:02 the second time again in the last two
7:04 tournaments or those previous two
7:07 tournaments that she had come down um uh
7:10 to being so close to winning and she's
7:12 only won one tournament this year.
7:13 Again, there were very high expectations
7:16 for her and just kind of not what people
7:18 had been expecting from Gino. Gino is
7:20 still number one in the world with uh
7:24 the Rolex rankings and the CME points
7:27 for the year, but but still this is kind
7:29 of disappointing. However,
7:33 this gives us a yet another new winner
7:34 for the year. So, we have not had a
7:38 repeat winner. And so, Charlie is our
7:43 uh I guess 25th um uh new winner. And
7:45 so, we're very very close to tying the
7:48 record. I'm rooting for us to break the
7:51 record um that we had uh gotten getting
7:53 very close to tying. Okay. So, some
7:56 other notable things. Body W uh came in
7:59 third, solo third at 18 under. The purse
8:02 was 2 million uh for that tournament. H
8:05 man, which is low. Uh the winner share
8:08 was $300,000. Charlie uh earned
8:11 $300,000. So, congratulations to
8:13 Charlie. Um and that really bumped her
8:18 up in uh the CME uh points, the race for
8:21 the CME. I was looking um I'm going
8:24 going to go through the CME points. um
8:27 at some point because we you know after
8:30 the after the international crown toward
8:33 the end of October there then the next
8:36 really big tournament is that CME
8:38 championship that is at the end of
8:39 November it's the weekend right before
8:42 Thanksgiving and so that is what this
8:45 entire year this race to the CME championship
8:46 championship
8:49 that is what this is all about. So, the
8:53 top 60 ranked women with CME points get
8:55 invited to that CME championship
8:58 tournament uh that weekend right before
9:00 Thanksgiving. It's in I believe Naples,
9:03 Florida. And so, 60 women will get to go
9:05 to that tournament and play. And the
9:10 winner gets she alone gets $4 million.
9:14 So, it is a huge deal if you're in that
9:18 top top 60 of the CME points. and get
9:20 invited to that tournament and have a
9:24 chance uh to win $4 million. And I'm
9:26 sure the other amounts of money that you
9:29 can win, I'm sure, are huge. And it's a
9:31 much smaller uh amount of people that
9:34 you're playing against. It's only 60 or
9:36 59 other women if you're one of the 60.
9:38 And a lot of tournaments, I mean, you're
9:42 sometimes with 120 women, 154 women. Um,
9:45 and so to only be playing with 60 total
9:48 women with that chance of winning $4
9:51 million for the winner, that's not the
9:53 total pot. That is the winner gets $4
9:55 million. It's a really big deal. So
9:58 those CME points, very, very important.
10:01 Now, that leads us to this tournament
10:04 that was supposed to be held, started to
10:07 be held this last weekend.
10:09 And that was the tournament that was
10:11 supposed to be held right outside, I
10:13 think it's technically in Rogers,
10:15 Arkansas, but I think of it as
10:17 Bentonville because it is the tournament
10:21 sponsored by Walmart. And so, it is the
10:25 Walmart Northwest Arkansas Championship
10:27 in Rogers, Arkansas. It was supposed to
10:30 be held September 19th through 21st. It
10:33 is just um one of those remaining 3-day
10:37 tournaments. So, 54 whole tournaments.
10:40 One of the very few. I actually I I had
10:43 been planning on going. Stuff had
10:46 happened. Work coming back from Kiwi,
10:48 everything had happened. Just kind of
10:49 busy in my life. And I had decided, my
10:51 husband and I had decided we're just
10:53 we're not going to go this year, but we
10:56 really would like to go next year. We
10:59 really wanted to go because we love
11:01 Bentonville so much. We went to
11:04 Bentonville. It's actually now been
11:07 almost exactly 3 years ago. We went to
11:09 Bentonville in the fall. I guess it was
11:11 maybe the first weekend in October when
11:16 we went and it was so wonderful. It was,
11:18 I think, maybe one of the last trips
11:21 that we had that we got to have with my
11:25 mom and uh my in-laws, my husband's
11:28 parents, and it was so fantastic. We got
11:31 a house, an Airbnb house right there in
11:33 Bentonville. It was a spectacular
11:36 location, a wonderful house. We went to
11:38 Crystal Bridges. That's really why we
11:40 were going. So, Crystal Bridges is a
11:43 wonderful art museum. Alice Walton, one
11:49 of the Walmart Aeryses, she uh has put
11:55 her money into art and she has
11:58 put together this spectacular art museum
12:01 there in Bentonville and it's free and
12:05 it focuses on American art and the art
12:08 museum itself is like the architecture
12:11 is so cool and beautiful and I think
12:13 they're been expanding the art museum,
12:16 but they they were having this special
12:20 exhibit at night. And so my
12:22 father-in-law was pushing my mom in a
12:24 wheelchair cuz she was having difficulty
12:26 walking at the time. So he was pushing
12:30 her around at night through this exhibit
12:32 and it was a bunch of really cool
12:35 interactive things uh with light and
12:37 sound and kind of going through these
12:40 woods in Arkansas outside the museum. It
12:43 was a really cool event and then the
12:47 museum through the day uh was just it
12:50 it's a spectacular museum and so we were
12:53 going to go kind of have an excuse to
12:55 see the museum because we were going to
12:56 go to the tournament and we were really
12:58 really excited and disappointed that we
13:03 weren't going to go and um then I got
13:05 really busy this weekend. was working.
13:09 Um, and then I basically was like, "Oh,
13:10 I've got to find out what happened with
13:13 the tournament." And I logged on. It got
13:15 rained out. So, the women were able to
13:19 play essentially one day of golf. On
13:22 Friday, they all I believe were able to
13:24 play 18 holes, so a round of golf. And
13:27 then Saturday, I was just reading, I
13:28 don't think anyone was able to play more
13:31 than three holes. And then it got rained
13:33 out. And then it basically was announced
13:37 on Sunday that with the continuing rain
13:40 throughout the full day on Saturday, it
13:42 kept raining, the amount of rain, they
13:44 got over 3 in of rain and then it kept
13:47 raining and then the forecast was for
13:49 more rain Monday and Tuesday. So, they
13:52 weren't even going to be able to make up
13:54 um the amount of holes that they needed
13:57 to actually call it an event. And so I
14:00 guess with the rules they needed to play
14:04 at least 36 holes to be able to count it
14:06 as a qualifying tournament. And so they
14:08 weren't able to even count it as a
14:10 tournament. And so they weren't able to
14:15 award anyone any CME points. And so this
14:18 is where it's really kind of a gut punch
14:21 for everyone who is playing these
14:24 tournaments and trying to get those CME
14:27 points and figure out, you know, where
14:29 they're going to end up in the CME
14:32 ranking, not only for this, you know,
14:35 big tournament in November, but also
14:37 where they'll end up at the end of the
14:39 year where they're going to end up on
14:41 that ranking because that will really
14:43 affect what tournaments they're able to
14:46 partic participate in next year. Like I
14:47 said, I'm going to do more of a deep
14:50 dive on that later. If you want to hear
14:54 more sooner than I get into it, I highly
14:56 recommend listening to the mixed bag.
14:58 Their most recent episode, they talk
15:01 about they talk about the Queen City
15:02 tournament, but they also talk about
15:04 women who are on the bubble. They
15:06 discuss being on the bubble and they
15:09 kind of talk about the implications of
15:12 the CME points, what exactly it means,
15:15 and they give a very good explanation of
15:18 why these points are so important, where
15:19 you are in the ranking, kind of what
15:22 events you'll be invited to, what events
15:24 you're guaranteed to be able to
15:27 participate in. And so, uh, if you want
15:29 more information before I do my my deep
15:31 dive on it, please listen to that
15:33 episode of the mixed bag. It's really
15:35 informative. It's great. Uh Matthew
15:39 talks through it. Um and it's it's just
15:41 a a great episode in general, but also
15:44 they give really good information on why
15:46 this is so important and such an
15:49 important time of year for the women and
15:51 again why it's such a gut punch that
15:53 they weren't able to get any CME points
15:55 from this tournament. We're winding down
15:58 the number of tournaments that anyone is
16:00 able to participate in uh before the end
16:03 of the year here. And so to have an
16:04 entire tournament, you know, just kind
16:06 of yanked away, it's just really
16:09 disappointing. But anyway, so next year,
16:11 I really hope that I'm able to attend.
16:14 And if you're listening and you have the
16:16 whole year now to plan ahead, if you're
16:17 thinking of going to any tournaments
16:20 next year, if you live anywhere around
16:24 Bentonville, Arkansas, I mean, people
16:26 fly in there all the time because
16:28 obviously it's Walmart headquarters and
16:30 so a lot of business goes on. So, I'm
16:32 sure that they have some decent flights
16:35 in there. Try try to plan a trip there.
16:37 Bentonville is it's a cute little town.
16:39 I remember some really good food, some
16:41 good restaurants. Also, their their
16:44 Walmart museum. They have I mean, I
16:45 think it's kind of a cute just small
16:48 museum, but they also have at the end
16:52 they have kind of a um like an ice cream
16:54 soda shop type thing. and they have
16:58 their prices still like whatever time
17:01 period that Walmart was opened and so oh
17:02 my goodness. So we got like a I don't
17:04 know you can get like a root beer float
17:05 for like 10 cents or something ridiculous.
17:07 ridiculous.
17:10 It's a lot of fun but the museum the
17:12 museum is worth it even if you do
17:14 nothing else. I mean obviously go to the
17:17 tournament but plan a weekend you know
17:19 stay an extra day go to the museum. The
17:23 museum is free and I just really really
17:25 highly recommend just go to Bentonville.
17:28 It's a great great city. Highly
17:31 recommend it. Okay, enough about that.
17:34 I want to next encourage you this
17:38 weekend, guys. It's the RDER Cup and
17:41 there's not an LPGA tournament probably
17:43 because it's the RDER Cup. Please watch
17:45 the RDER Cup. I know I've described it
17:46 this way before, but if you don't
17:50 recall, the Ryder Cup is it's the men's
17:53 version of the Saulheim Cup. So, the
17:55 Saulheim Cup, which is going to be
17:58 played next year, is where the US women
18:01 play the European women. So, it's a team
18:03 event where the US plays Europe. The
18:06 Ryder Cup is the men's version of that.
18:09 And so our American men, the team is
18:13 going to be playing playing European men
18:15 and they the teams are set. It's been a
18:17 lot of drama already, of course. I mean,
18:20 it's been, you know, drama all year
18:22 about Keegan Bradley. He's the American
18:24 team's captain. Was he going to be a
18:27 playing captain? I I can't even get into
18:30 it. I I don't want to get into it. I
18:32 have too many opinions. I don't want to
18:34 get into it right now. All right. The
18:35 reason I recommend that you watch the
18:37 writer cup this weekend and by the way
18:40 it's being played I think it's is it
18:42 Friday through Sunday. It's Friday
18:45 through Sunday. You can watch it on NBC.
18:48 It's going to be on NBC and Peacock. So
18:50 if you have the Peacock app, uh it'll be
18:52 on NBC. I think they're doing stuff on
18:55 USA. If you have cable um but definitely
18:58 network, it's going to be on NB NBC. And
19:00 then I also saw and I was looking on the
19:04 Peacock app. Uh Colin Jo from uh if
19:06 you've seen him on SNL, he's going to be
19:09 doing some like breakfast at Beth Page
19:11 Black, which is the golf course where
19:14 it's being played. Uh so I'm sure that's
19:16 going to be very funny. So I'm going to
19:18 be, you know, watching that, tuning in
19:22 for that on on uh Peacock. So, the
19:23 reason I recommend that you watch the
19:25 RDER Cup, even if you don't watch men's
19:28 golf, typically watch it to start
19:32 getting a feel for how team events are
19:34 played, so that you'll know what to
19:38 expect when you are watching the Hana
19:41 Life Plus International Crown
19:43 and for next year when you're watching
19:46 the Saulheim Cup because it will be able
19:47 you'll start being able to pick up
19:50 what's going on with Forball. ball
19:54 forsomes and then this um the singles
19:58 event. So because Hana the international
20:00 crown I won't say it the full name every
20:02 time but the international crown you
20:05 know we are going to have our four ball
20:07 and then I was looking I think I may
20:09 have stated it wrong when I was
20:11 describing the event. I think it is
20:14 primarily four ball and then I think
20:17 they are playing forsomes maybe the last
20:21 day along with some singles. So fourball
20:23 is exactly what it sounds like. We have
20:27 our team of two for example two US women
20:29 and then say two Japanese women if
20:32 they're playing each other and each one
20:34 is playing a ball. So that's the four
20:36 ball. So you'll watch out for that. And
20:39 then forsomes it's where we have our
20:43 teams. So four women, so two US women,
20:46 two Japanese women, but only two balls
20:49 are being played. So each team of two
20:51 women just has one ball and they're
20:54 playing the one ball. So each team is
20:56 just playing one ball. So that's
20:59 foursomes and then four ball. Obviously,
21:01 they're playing with four balls. So each
21:04 woman is playing her own ball. Oh, oops.
21:05 I just pulled out my earring. Got to put
21:08 it back in.
21:11 Anyway, so the writer cup will give you
21:15 a really good chance to be watching how
21:17 these team events are played and
21:21 watching kind of the strategy of who
21:24 they put up against one another, how it
21:26 all works because it will be very
21:30 important to be watching this um next
21:34 year with Salheim Cup, US versus Europe
21:36 and then also again with the
21:38 international crown coming up in oh my
21:41 goodness like basically a month a month
21:45 so it is starting October 23rd so when
21:46 this is posting which is going to be on
21:51 Tuesday September 23rd that is when the
21:54 uh international crown is starting I
21:56 can't believe it and you guys I am going
22:02 to be in South Korea for this event I I
22:06 can't tell you how excited I am I cannot
22:09 wait I can't wait. Oh my goodness,
22:11 there's so much to do in the meantime.
22:13 So, that's why I recommend watching The
22:16 Writer Cup. Now, another reason why I
22:18 recommend watching The Writer Cup is
22:21 because it is so dramatic.
22:25 If you are someone like me who enjoys
22:28 watching reality television, if you like
22:32 drama, if you like all of those things,
22:34 watch The Writer Cup. And in
22:37 preparation, here's what I recommend. Go
22:40 to no laying up the podcast and there
22:42 are three episodes that I recommend you
22:46 listen to. You are going to laugh and
22:48 laugh. They are so funny and they will
22:53 give you really good background on the
22:56 drama, the absolute drama, the hilarity,
22:58 the stakes
23:02 of the writer cup and
23:05 how enjoyable and hilarious this can all
23:08 be. And by the way, this is these
23:09 episodes I'm going to tell you about are
23:14 from Rder Cups from 19919. They aren't
23:17 even from the Ryder Cup two years ago
23:20 where there was also a lot of drama. If
23:22 you want more information about that,
23:23 you can look at no laying up the
23:26 chipping forecast. They discussed it. if
23:29 you want to also um on Netflix the docue
23:33 series about golf full swing they also
23:36 on full swing I think it's season 2 it
23:39 has some of the drama that was going on
23:41 with the writer cup the one that was in
23:44 Rome 2 years ago it is so funny it is so
23:47 funny you can love the drama you can
23:49 love to hate certain people you can get
23:52 all involved you can root for your
23:54 country you can root for the other team
23:57 whatever you I love it. I love it.
24:00 Here's the order that I recommend
24:02 because I think I I think that this is a
24:03 really good order to give you some
24:07 context. So, go to No Laying Up and go
24:10 to episode 921
24:14 and that's called Golf Feuds and that
24:19 discusses the 1999 Ryder Cup. It is the
24:22 funniest episode. It is so funny. that
24:24 will just give you some context about
24:29 the writer cup and about the um
24:31 just how seriously this stuff is taken
24:35 for years and the rivalry and how it all
24:39 goes. And if you go to 9, episode 945,
24:42 that is an episode kind of a deep dive
24:45 into some some investigations going on
24:48 uh that no laying up did. And this one
24:51 is talking about Beth Page Black.
24:54 That is the name. So Beth Page is the
24:57 golf course and black or I guess the
25:00 golf club and Beth Page Black is the
25:04 specific golf course that uh the RDER
25:05 Cup is going to be played at. So there's
25:08 Beth Paige black and red and blue and
25:10 yellow and green, I think. But Beth Page
25:12 Black is the actual course that they're
25:14 going to be playing for the writer cup.
25:17 And so that episode
25:19 it doesn't talk
25:21 it's it's an episode that talks about a
25:23 lot of other things, but it also
25:26 discusses Beth Paige Black and how
25:27 difficult it is as a course. And it's
25:29 just a really fascinating episode. So
25:31 don't think that it's all about the
25:33 writer cut because it it's not. It's
25:35 just a really interesting episode and
25:38 gives you some context about Beth Page
25:42 Black and you know why it is such um a
25:45 well-known course and it's just also a
25:48 really fascinating episode and will give
25:50 you some idea I think too on possibly
25:52 the type of fans that are going to be
25:55 there. The local the local fans, the
25:58 local American fans. Okay. And then the
26:02 last episode I recommend is episode 425.
26:05 And so it's obviously much earlier, but
26:09 it is an episode that discusses the 1991
26:13 RDER Cup. It's a great episode. Again,
26:16 highly recommend it. It really again
26:20 just gives some wonderful background. So
26:23 just as you're exercising, as you're
26:25 running errands, as you're just wanting
26:26 something on in the background,
26:28 anything, just put on these three
26:32 episodes of no laying up, do it early.
26:34 Do it in preparation. And then starting
26:36 on Friday, you will have some excellent
26:39 context when you put on the writer cup.
26:41 If you don't have time on Friday, if
26:43 you're working, if you're doing
26:46 whatever, Saturday and Sunday, turn it
26:49 on. NBC, Peacock, maybe USA, but
26:53 definitely NBC network, Peacock app.
26:54 Please put it on. It's going to be
26:57 great. Okay. So, like I said, you'll
27:00 then learn about match play. So, you'll
27:02 see four ball forsomes and then the
27:04 singles. You'll see the strategy. So,
27:07 that will help you get ready for the
27:09 International Crown. And so my next
27:12 segment which I'm going to talk about
27:15 now is the international crown, the
27:18 countdown to the crown. And so our main
27:21 feature today,
27:23 we are going to be talking about team
27:26 USA. I'm so excited. So I want to talk
27:28 about our four players and then I'm
27:30 going to talk about their fashion a
27:32 little bit. It's really interesting what
27:37 I found out. Okay, team USA. So, as you
27:40 all know, each team has four players.
27:42 And the four players are chosen based on
27:45 the Rolex rankings.
27:51 And so, our four US players are Nelly
27:54 Corda, Lilia Vu, Angel Yen, and Lauren
27:56 Coglin. I think this is a fantastic
27:59 team. I think we have some strengths and
28:02 weaknesses, but I think together they're
28:06 going to be wonderful. So, let's talk
28:09 about each one of them. And I know that
28:11 you probably have heard me talk about
28:14 each of them independently, but I want
28:16 to go into them a little bit more so
28:19 that you all feel like you really know
28:22 our US players very well and you can
28:23 start learning about them a little bit
28:27 more yourself and so you can really
28:30 fully start rooting for them and be
28:32 prepared to cheer them on for the
28:34 international crown. Just as a preface,
28:37 I highly recommend if you are on
28:41 Instagram, go ahead and follow our US
28:43 women. Follow them on Instagram and then
28:46 also if you want to go ahead and follow
28:49 um Hanwa Life plus International Crown,
28:51 you can be getting news on all of the
28:54 team um all the different teams. Uh then
28:56 when the event does start, you know,
28:58 you'll be getting information on it,
29:00 too. So, let's talk about Nelly Corda.
29:03 Nelly, as you know, she just dropped in
29:06 the Rolex rankings from number one where
29:08 she had been I just read she had been
29:13 there for 71 weeks. 71 weeks in a row.
29:15 She had been ranked number one in the
29:17 world. She just just dropped to number
29:21 two I think in August. Uh now Gino
29:24 Titakun from Thailand is ranked number
29:27 one and Nelly Corda is ranked number two
29:30 in the Rolex world rankings. So she's
29:32 ranked number two. The race to the CME
29:35 Globe, she's ranked number six. So Nelly
29:40 Corda joined the LPGA in 2017. So she's
29:43 been with the LPGA for uh many years
29:45 now. Um compared to some of the other
29:49 players that we'll talk about and she is
29:52 27 years old. Nelly is really
29:55 incredible. So, I know this year and
29:57 it's been interesting talking like with
30:00 my husband as we've been watching golf
30:02 uh watching the LPGA and going to these
30:05 tournaments. You know, last year I
30:08 wasn't watching the LPGA, but I was
30:12 listening to a podcast about golf. And
30:15 so, again, primarily I was listening to
30:16 the chipping forecast and I was
30:20 listening to No Laying Up. And so I knew
30:23 like last year in 2024
30:26 in the first I think eight tournaments
30:30 of the year, Nelly Corda had won six six LPGA
30:32 LPGA
30:34 wins out of the first eight tournaments
30:36 of the year. And then I think she won a
30:38 total last year, I'm looking it up, I
30:40 think last year she had won a total of
30:43 seven wins last year.
30:46 And you know, I had heard that through
30:49 these men's podcasts and then watching
30:52 women's golf this year. Nelly hasn't won
30:56 yet. And so going to these events and
30:59 seeing the media and seeing the crowds
31:02 around Nelly and like you know she's not
31:04 she's not winning. She's not always in
31:07 the top of the leaderboard. And again to
31:10 see everyone crowding around and again
31:12 you know you know the coverage is
31:14 following her whether or not she's top
31:16 of the leaderboard you know the TV like
31:18 the media coverage the TV coverage is
31:19 around Nelly and it's it's kind of
31:22 frustrating because it's like okay like
31:25 why we have we have really good players
31:28 who are actually leading
31:31 why are they showing Nelly and talking
31:33 with my husband and then describing like
31:35 well this is why they're showing Nelly
31:37 like This is what she was doing last
31:39 year. And then here, listen to what
31:41 she's done in her career. This is why
31:46 Nelly Corda is a big deal. Okay. So,
31:48 even when she's not winning, like she's
31:53 up there, relevant, and she's been
31:57 around and been relevant. So, like I
31:59 said, even when she's not winning, she's
32:02 been number one in the world, the number
32:04 one women's golfer in the world for 71
32:08 weeks in a row. Like I said, last year
32:13 she had won seven times. I mean, we just
32:16 talked about at the beginning, you know,
32:18 Charlie Hull, who is a very good player.
32:21 She has had a very good career. She's
32:23 had good earnings. She's known as a very
32:25 good player. She's up there a lot.
32:27 She's, you know, she tied for second in
32:31 the AIG Women's Open. She she's up there
32:33 in the leaderboard a lot. She's a good
32:36 player. She's won three tournaments
32:39 total in her entire career with the
32:42 LPGA. It is hard to win tournaments. And
32:45 last year, Nelly Corda won seven
32:48 tournaments in one year. Like, that's
32:51 that's really good. Nelly Corda is
32:54 really good. And so I just I'm trying to
32:56 I'm trying to put this in perspective
32:59 about why Nelly Corda is a big deal. So
33:01 even though she hasn't won this year,
33:04 like Nelly Corta is a really big deal.
33:08 In 2024, she uh was in 16 events and she
33:11 made the cut 13 times. She uh was a
33:15 member of the US Solheim Cup team in
33:18 2024. She also represented the US team
33:22 at the 2024 Paris Olympics. She had a
33:24 historic season, like I said, with seven
33:28 wins um and an an additional four top 10
33:32 finishes. Okay. 2023,
33:35 18 events, she made the cut 16 times.
33:39 She had a she recorded nine top 10
33:41 finishes. And in 2023, she was a member
33:44 of the US uh team at the International
33:46 Crown and she was a member of the US
33:49 Salheim Cup team in 2023. 2022 she was
33:53 in 15 events and made the cut 13 times
33:57 and she had eight top 10 finishes in
34:01 2022. 2021 she was in 17 events, made
34:04 the cut 16 times. She was also then in
34:07 uh she was a member of the US Saulheim
34:09 Cup team and she represented the United
34:12 States in the Tokyo Olympics and she won
34:14 the gold medal. All right. And I mean it
34:17 just keeps going back. um 2019 she was
34:19 also a member of the US Solheim Cup
34:22 team. So even back here when she was an amateur
34:24 amateur
34:29 um she played on the 2015 US Junior
34:32 Saulheim Cup team. All right. So we know
34:36 Nelly Corda is incredible. I think what
34:38 is very important here in this team
34:41 event is that Nelly has participated in
34:45 so many team events. her experience on
34:48 these team events is going to be really
34:52 important here and because as we go
34:54 through you'll see that we don't
34:56 necessarily have that experience with
34:59 the other women on the US team. So
35:01 having been in the Olympics so many
35:05 times representing the US, having won
35:07 the gold at the Olympics, so being in
35:09 those very high pressure situations, but
35:11 then these team events, being a member
35:15 of the Saulheim Cup team multiple times,
35:17 and having been a member of the
35:20 international crown team event already,
35:22 I think is very important. So, not just
35:26 US versus Europe, but also having been
35:29 in the team event where it is multiple
35:31 countries as a team event, I think is
35:33 very important. So, she has that
35:35 experience and she'll be able to bring
35:37 some of that knowledge and experience to
35:40 the other players and I think that that
35:42 is going to be so important for Nelly to
35:44 bring to the team. Our next player,
35:48 let's talk about Angel Yen. Angel Yen is
35:52 the next in our leaderboard and she is
35:55 ranked number 10 in the Rolex rankings.
35:57 She's ranked number eight in the race to
36:00 the CME. She's had two career wins with
36:04 the LPGA. Her rookie year was also 2017
36:07 with LPGA. And Angel Yin is 26 years
36:10 old. Now let's talk about her stats a
36:13 little bit. Okay, so Angel's wins, this
36:14 is really good. So, Angel won for the
36:17 first time with the LPGA in 2023. And
36:19 then her most recent win was this year
36:23 in 2025. She won the Honda LPGA uh
36:26 Thailand event. So, I think this is
36:29 really good because Angel having won
36:31 this year, I think that that's a very
36:33 positive thing. That's showing an upward
36:36 trend for Angel. Rolex ranking is very
36:38 good. Number 10 in the world. That's
36:42 fantastic for the US. And so as far as
36:45 Angel's concerned, she has been a member
36:49 of the Saulheim Cup team for uh three
36:52 different times. So she was a member in
36:57 2017, 2019, and 2023. And it looks like
37:00 she's had a pretty good record there. 53
37:04 and one. I think that that is five wins,
37:08 three losses, and one tie. And so that's
37:11 a very good record as far as team events
37:14 go. So she's had experience in team
37:16 events. She has a winning record with
37:18 team events. I think that's fantastic
37:21 experience that Angel has had. And again
37:23 having kind of that upward trend as far
37:26 as winning this year. Um I think is
37:29 really very good for Angel and uh what
37:32 she's bringing to this team event. Now
37:37 2024 uh she participated in 20 events,
37:40 made the cut 13 times. Uh she did earn
37:44 seven top 10 finishes
37:50 and um her best event was a uh
37:55 solo second at the CME uh championship,
37:58 which is quite good. 2023 she was in 18
38:02 events and made the cut 15 times and she
38:04 had six top 10 finishes
38:09 let's see and in 2023 she was a member
38:12 of the US uh Saulheim Cup team. So, it
38:16 looks like I don't think she's been a
38:20 member of an international crown
38:23 that I can see.
38:29 But I think it's really great that she
38:33 has been in these team events and like I
38:38 said that she has won uh recently that
38:40 she has had this recent LPGA win because
38:43 I think for her mentally that's going to
38:46 go a long way and really you know I
38:48 don't know it says to her that she
38:49 absolutely deserves to be part of this
38:52 team that she is providing a lot to this
38:55 team and clearly is a very important
38:57 member of the team with very good
39:00 experience to bring to the table. Okay,
39:02 let's talk about Lauren Coglin. Lauren
39:07 Coglin has also had two career wins
39:11 and she is 15th in the Rolex rankings,
39:14 24th in the race to the CME Globe. Her
39:16 rookie year was 2018
39:20 and Lauren is 32 years old. Now, you've
39:22 heard me talk about Lauren Coglin in the
39:25 past. Um, Lauren
39:29 uh had been with the LPGA for many years
39:32 and hadn't won, was getting very close to
39:34 to
39:36 stopping playing golf, was really
39:39 questioning whether this was a career
39:41 that she could continue. Um, I think her
39:44 husband had quit his job and was catting
39:48 for her and they were trying to decide
39:49 if this was something that they were
39:52 going to continue or not. And then she
39:54 won she won her first tournament last
39:58 year in 2024 and uh and then she won
40:02 again and it was just I don't know if
40:04 they were backtoback ones uh but it was
40:08 really amazing and uh the timing of it
40:13 was so spectacular because she also
40:17 then made the Saulheim Cup team uh for
40:20 America in 2024. It was just wonderful.
40:22 And she went uh she was a so she was
40:24 first time member of the US team in the
40:27 Saulheim Cup. Um and she did really
40:30 really well there. So looking here she
40:35 was 3 and one. So won three of her
40:37 matches. Uh didn't lose any and was tied
40:40 one. That is an incredible performance
40:42 especially as a rookie going into a team
40:44 event. Very high pressure. Really
40:48 outstanding. And so 2024 was just an
40:50 amazing kind of breakout year for
40:54 someone who had been playing since 2018
40:57 was thinking of giving up. It really is
40:59 an amazing story. I know I've told you
41:03 this before, but no laying up. They uh
41:05 they actually sponsored her. Their
41:09 podcast sponsored her and they have
41:12 several episodes about about her and her
41:14 story. Um, but I think there's one
41:17 specifically called like Lauren Coglin's
41:19 story or something. Uh, and I I
41:21 recommend listening to it, but it's
41:23 really an amazing story. I like Lauren
41:26 Coglin very much. She
41:28 everything I have seen of her at
41:33 tournaments. She seems to be very chill,
41:36 very calm, cooled,
41:38 very calm under pressure. I think she's
41:43 going to bring that to the team. I
41:44 especially, my goodness, with her
41:46 record. I know she's only been in one
41:48 team event uh there with the Salahheim
41:52 Cup in 2024, but that's a fantastic
41:55 record that she has. And so, I think
41:57 that that is going to be really great
41:59 for this team. I'm thrilled that Lauren
42:02 is on this team. Okay, let me talk about
42:05 our final player on the US team, and
42:09 that is Liliau. I really like Liliau.
42:13 She is ranked currently 28th in the
42:16 Rolex rankings and 64th in the race to
42:19 the CME Globe. Julia has had five career
42:23 wins and was a rookie in 2019. That's
42:25 when she joined the LPGA. She is 27
42:28 years old. So, let's look at her bio.
42:31 Okay, of Lilia's five wins, two have
42:34 been majors. That's great. That's pretty
42:36 amazing. And so she won the Chevron
42:38 Championship and then she also has won
42:41 the AIG Women's Open. Those are
42:43 impressive, you know, very impressive to
42:45 of your five wins to have two of them be
42:48 major wins.
42:52 Um, she has been, this is very good, she
42:56 has been in two Saulheim Cups. So she's
42:58 been in those team events in 2023 and
43:01 2024. And then she was in the
43:04 international crown uh team event in
43:07 2023. She was also a member of the US
43:11 team for the Paris Olympics in 2024.
43:16 And so that is really great. She next to
43:19 Nelly Corda has the most uh experience
43:21 with team events. So between the
43:24 Olympics, the International Crown and
43:28 Salheim Cup team events, Lilia Vu has
43:31 some great experience there. Okay, here
43:35 are my thoughts though. So Lilia has not
43:38 been playing as well this year as she
43:41 has in the past. I think she had a back
43:46 injury. Um I think she has been kind of
43:49 getting back into things. Um, recently
43:51 though, I feel like a couple tournaments
43:53 though I've been seeing her maybe coming
43:58 back up. So hopefully I'm hoping that
44:00 just kind of her deep well of experience
44:03 will come into play. Lilia is also a
44:06 player that I think I think every player
44:09 can get in their head, of course, but
44:13 she seems to get very focused,
44:15 very intense. And while that that can be
44:18 great if you're doing well, it also I
44:22 think can turn into potential negative
44:24 energy when you're not doing well. This
44:29 is the same with Angel Yen. Angel is so
44:32 hilarious. I know that I've talked about
44:34 like Okay, so Angel, if you ever watch a
44:38 press conference that uh that
44:40 documentary on YouTube
44:46 uh about the LPGA Drive on Angel, Angel
44:50 is just herself and she's very open and
44:55 honest and wonderful and so likable. I
44:57 really like Angel Yen. She talked about
44:59 in a press conference discovering she
45:04 had a gluten allergy and how she refused
45:06 to believe it because she's too old to
45:08 get a gluten allergy. She's just
45:11 hilarious. Angel's Angel's just so funny
45:16 and she can be so happy and delightful
45:20 and open and free. And then when you see
45:23 her on the golf course and she is not
45:26 doing well, she is
45:34 she doesn't seem like a player who can
45:37 just shake it off. I mean, I know she
45:39 does really well. like she is very high
45:41 in the rankings and she is doing well
45:45 this year. But like the attitude that
45:48 she portrays and watching an athlete
45:51 like walking down the golf course like
45:53 it's just interesting watching her like
45:56 going to a tournament and watching her
45:59 when she's not playing well. She can get
46:01 I don't want to say depressed but like
46:05 in a funk like really in a funk. So
46:07 here's my thinking. I think that these
46:11 women together can have some fun. And I
46:15 think that Angel will do really well in
46:17 a team event. I think Angel can bring
46:21 some good vibes, some really fun good
46:24 vibes, and Lauren can bring some kind of
46:28 chill energy. Nelly is just stable. But,
46:29 you know, watching her Instagram when
46:32 she's just kind of like just having fun
46:34 with her friends and not being like
46:37 super professional golfer girl, she
46:40 looks like a really fun hangout like fun
46:43 vibe. And then Lilia, I think Lilia also
46:45 just needs to have some fun here this
46:47 year. Everything has gotten so serious
46:48 and all of these women are doing great
46:51 in the rankings. If the four of them can
46:54 just go
46:57 and have fun, I
46:59 I think absolutely they're going to win.
47:02 So that's what I'm going to do to
47:04 challenge these ladies. Get out of your
47:07 head. Go have a good time. Everything
47:11 that I have heard about Korea and the
47:14 fans is that it it is so wild
47:18 and so crazy with the fandom that it's
47:21 going to be I mean and clearly I mean
47:24 you all have experienced it and not me.
47:27 But have fun. Who cares? treat this like
47:30 such a fun girls trip and then I think
47:32 they're unstoppable. That's what I
47:35 think. That's what I'm going for. And I
47:38 think that that then will blend the
47:42 perfect parts of each of these women and
47:44 kind of get rid of any of the potential
47:47 negative parts or not negative but you
47:49 know the parts that might bring them
47:52 down and might challenge them. And I
47:55 think that this then can be a really
47:57 amazing team. That that is what I'm
48:00 thinking. Let me tell you about what I
48:02 have found with the uniforms. So I think
48:03 there's a lot more going on with the
48:06 Salheim Cup uniforms. What I found for
48:08 the Hanwa
48:10 uh Life Plus international crown
48:13 uniforms is Hanwa this year has
48:17 partnered with a company called I think
48:22 it's a new a new golf a new golfware
48:26 company and they are the ones doing all
48:28 all of the uniforms for the
48:31 international crown. So all team, all
48:34 countries, all teams, they are doing the
48:36 uniforms this year.
48:39 And what I saw at least the picture,
48:42 they all look
48:45 kind of the kind of the same, kind of
48:47 boring. I mean, they are different
48:50 colors. And the US the US had it's like
48:55 navy blue shirts and maybe like and polo
48:58 polo and then like kind of around the
49:00 the sleeve the bottom of the sleeve it's
49:03 like a red stripe
49:06 and then it says like hanwa and then
49:09 like I don't know that's about it and then
49:11 then
49:14 someone else's was you know maybe maybe
49:17 someone had pink and then someone else I
49:20 mean And uh and then they all were
49:22 wearing pants in the picture and they
49:25 all were wearing so it's polos and pants
49:28 and belts
49:30 and they looked like that's it. I just I
49:32 hate to say that they just kind of look
49:35 boring. I'm hoping that there's more
49:39 variety because it just it did not it
49:41 did not look that interesting and that's
49:44 really disappointing to me. Okay. Yeah.
49:46 So let me describe it a little more. So
49:50 yes, it has the US flag and then
49:51 yeah, that's about it. Okay, this is
49:54 Korea. So Korea, it looks like they have
49:57 a black polo and just around the stripe
50:00 around their sleeve is white and the
50:03 Korean flag and then their kind of visor
50:07 is like a kind of a royal blue.
50:10 US's visor is just like a navy blue like
50:12 with a kind of red stripe. Oh, let's
50:15 see. Thailand here. the Gino. It's kind
50:19 of a raspberry maroon, I guess, with a
50:21 blue stripe on their sleeve. I mean,
50:23 literally, it's they're all the same
50:26 polo, just different colors. And then
50:28 the flag of the country, kind of like a
50:31 patch looking thing. And they're all
50:33 tucked in. They're all white belts. And
50:35 then it looks like we have maybe navy
50:38 pants. And looks like Miley Lee is
50:40 wearing white pants. I'm sorry. I mean
50:44 it I was hoping for something a lot more
50:45 exciting when I was talking about
50:47 fashion. I was so excited to look this
50:49 up and to discuss this and unfortunately
50:52 this is just kind of a bust. And I went
50:57 to Okay, so a new um yeah I mean it
50:59 looks like when I went to their company
51:00 like website and stuff, it looks like
51:03 they have pretty great golf clothes, but
51:06 I don't know why.
51:08 I mean they could have really cute
51:10 skirts. They could have they could have
51:13 all kinds of stuff. I don't know. I'm
51:14 hoping there's more to come. I'm going
51:16 to keep looking. If I find more, I'll
51:18 let you know. I did think this this was
51:20 interesting though. I believe that this
51:23 is a Korean company, a Korean, uh,
51:25 golfware company that they are
51:27 partnering with. And so, uh, it looks
51:29 like is it I apologize if I'm
51:32 mispronouncing this, but Chanyuk Park,
51:34 executive director of Hana Life
51:36 Insurance said, "It is truly meaningful
51:38 for us to partner with a new golf, which
51:40 is attracting attention not only in
51:41 Korea, but also abroad for the
51:43 tournament's official uniforms. The
51:45 uniforms represent the unity and
51:47 solidarity of the athletes representing
51:48 their nations and are among the
51:50 tournament's highlights. We hope many
51:52 will experience the excitement that the
51:54 world's top golfers will bring through
51:57 their team play.
52:02 So, um, and then the the head, um, of
52:03 the new business department of a new
52:07 golf, um, a global golfware brand, uh,
52:09 said, "This official sponsorship of the
52:12 Hanwa Life Plus International Crown
52:14 presents a valuable opportunity to share
52:17 the values of challenge and passion that
52:19 a new golf embodies while promoting the
52:21 brand globally. We aim to support
52:23 athletes in achieving peak performance
52:25 with uniforms that blend functionality
52:28 and style, leaving a lasting impression
52:30 on fans as well. Like that's a great
52:32 statement and that's what it should be.
52:36 Um because it should, you know, golfware
52:38 should balance functionality and style.
52:40 Like that's the whole point of why I
52:42 wanted to explore and talk about, you
52:44 know, women's golf fashion more because
52:46 of that balance of functionality and
52:48 style which I think is so interesting
52:50 and fun. by leaving a lasting
52:51 impression. Unfortunately, the
53:00 Okay. All right. [Music]
53:01 [Music]
53:05 All right. On that note, I want to just
53:08 leave you all with
53:11 letting you know that on Friday, I am
53:15 going to next discuss Japan's team
53:16 because I've got to get through these
53:20 teams. So, I'm going to be talking about
53:22 the four players from Japan
53:26 and um I'm also going to be telling you
53:29 a little bit more about my trip uh to
53:32 Kiwana Mountain Lodge because I want to
53:34 tell you more about the golf there. It
53:37 was so fantastic. Anyway, I have oh man,
53:39 I have so many wonderful recommendations
53:41 on shows and various things, but I've
53:43 already told you about really the big
53:46 focus this weekend is for the writer
53:49 cup. And in advance, if you need some
53:51 podcast to listen to, I've given you
53:53 those recommendations for no laying up.
53:56 Those are fantastic episodes. But until
53:58 we talk later this week, I hope you have
54:01 a fantastic week. If you have good
54:02 weather, we're having lots of rain here,
54:04 but if you have good weather, try to get
54:07 out and golf because at least if you're
54:09 living up in the north, we are counting
54:12 down the days until we no longer have
54:15 golf weather. So, try to get out, try to
54:17 do something outside.
54:20 And until next time, bye.
55:04 [Music] Hey,
55:05 Hey, [Music]
