Hi Jessica, it's great to meet you. How
are you today? I'm actually feeling a
bit nervous today. I'm new to this role
and to be honest to coaching too, but
I'm really looking forward for this
opportunity and getting some guidance on
how to be more effective in my
leadership role. I completely
understand, Jessica. It's normal to feel
a bit nervous when starting something new.
new.
Coaching is a partnership. So, think of
it as a space where we work together to
support your growth. Today, I'd love to
take this time to really get to know
each other and start building a strong
foundation for our working relationship.
How does that sound? That sounds great.
Uh, I really want to make sure I'm
feeling comfortable with you and
building a strong foundation will really
help me a lot. Absolutely. The better we
understand each other, the more
effective our coaching sessions will be.
Let's start by talking a little bit
about your journey so far. Can you tell
me what has led you to this coaching
opportunity? Sure. Uh I've been working
in healthcare for about six years now
and I was recently promoted to a
managerial position. I'm really looking
forward for this new challenge, but I'm
feeling a bit overwhelmed at times. I
want to make sure that I learn how to
better communicate with my team and
become a more confident leader. Thank
you for sharing that, Jessica.
Sounds like you've had a solid
foundation in healthcare, but now
stepping into this managerial role,
there are new dynamics to consider.
Okay. And it's great that you've
recognized the need for support. I
believe that by working together, we can
make sure you feel more confident and
capable as a leader. I appreciate that,
Adam. I know there's a lot to learn. Uh
but I'm hoping that through this
coaching, I'll make a really good impact
on my team and our work environment.
That's a fantastic mindset, Jessica. You
know, one of the most important things
in coaching is that we build a safe,
open, and honest space. You can feel
free to share challenges, successes, or
even any doubts that you might have
along the way. What I'm trying to say is
that this will be a confidential and
judgment-free space. And I want to make
sure that this coaching process is
centered around your specific needs and
goals. But today, our main focus is on
getting to know one another so we can
set a strong direction for our future
work together. How do you feel about
that? I'm really relieved to hear that.
I've been really focused on doing the
right thing that I tend to forget that
it's okay to be open about areas where I
might need some help. I'm glad this will
be a supportive space. Exactly. We're in
this together. Now, as we move forward,
it's important to keep in mind that
coaching isn't about giving you all the
answers. Instead, it's about asking the
right questions and helping you discover
your own solutions based on your
strength and experiences. I'll be here
to guide you, but I also want to empower
you to find your own path. To make sure
we're both clear on how we can work best
together, let's talk about some of our
mutual expectations. For me, I'll be
here to listen, provide feedback, and
offer strategies or insights when
needed. I'll also hold you accountable
for the goals we set, but it's important
that you feel comfortable bringing any
challenges or concerns to me. As for
you, I'd like you to come to each
session prepared to reflect on your own
experiences, share what's been working
and what hasn't, and be open to
exploring new ideas. Does that sound
fair? Yes, that sounds really good. I'm
ready to reflect and share openly. And
the accountability piece is especially
important for me because I tend to get
caught up in day-to-day task and forget
to focus on the bigger picture. That's
completely normal. And I think that by
working together, we can help you focus
on the bigger picture while still
managing the daily tasks. It's all about
finding balance and prioritizing your leadership
leadership
development. Now that we've discussed
how we'll work together, I'd like us to
think about the initial goals we'd like
to set. These can be short-term or
long-term and we'll revisit them
regularly. Okay? And I want to make sure
that your goals are meaningful to
you. What are some things that if you
were to achieve them would make you feel
like you're growing as a leader? Uh
well, I think one of my main goals uh is
to uh build a stronger relationship with
my team. I want to be approachable,
accessible, but also respected. Uh,
another goal also is to get better at
delegating tasks uh and not feeling the
need to do everything on my own. Those
are fantastic goals, Jessica. Building
trust with your team and learning to
delegate effectively are both crucial
for your growth as a leader. For our next
next
session, let's focus on creating
specific actionable steps towards
building those relationships and
practicing delegation. How do you feel
about that? That's exactly what I need.
I want to focus on those areas, but I
want to make sure I do it in a way that
feels authentic to me. Absolutely. It's
all about making those actions fit your
own leadership style. And I'll help you
identify ways to practice them in a way
that feels easy for you. And we'll
review your progress along the way so
that you're always moving forward.
Before we wrap up today's session, I'd
like to summarize the next steps. First,
over the next two weeks, I'd like you to
focus on having one-on-one conversations
with each of your team
members. Use this time to listen
actively and show your support.
Also, think about how you can begin to
delegate some tasks so you can free up
your time for the most important
work. At our next session, we'll review
how those conversations went and explore
specific strategies for delegating
effectively. How does that sound? That
sounds really doable. I'm excited to get
started. Thank you so much, Adam, for
making the first session so comfortable
and clear. Of course, Jessica, I'm
looking forward to seeing your progress.
Remember, this is a partnership, so I'll
be here to support you every step of the
