chat so I am as always
Chacho thank you mmm that is good vodka
um happy Oscar day do you care
Wow what an unbelievably bad Oscar day
it is for those of us who love movies
just a horrible Homer year I don't
intend we're gonna talk about during the
show because I'm so upset um but it's
Oscars and we don't care that's the
theme of the show and hope you enjoy
yourself are you wearing a tux but we do
care about our sponsor
we love our sponsor they are here for a
short 10 weeks but they're very kind and
and we angled from the beginning doing
this show saying look we just want to
this week brought to you by kind of
thing you know
this hour brought to you by in this case
the 9 hours but so the fine folks of
both like said will be your huckleberry
and we made a little commercial we made
a little funny fun thing and by the way
I remember seeing the first Bowflex
things like the crazy machine thing with
the 19 different year and that thing and
then they always have ridiculous models
and you're going like what I could never
why would what's his number but this
latest thing that they asked me to to
get on climb onto and and shoot this
commercial for this well you'll see it's
pretty fantastic and for those of you
that like to put on maybe a television
or something in your home and and get on
one of these machines for 45 minutes
whatever crazy fantastic so I said yeah
I'll get on that thing and I'll Megan
itty of myself and then we'll do an ad
and then I'll say thank you both flex
for being our sponsor and so that's how
the whole thing kind of started and then
this happened roll it hello how are you
I'm here to tell you about bowflex
treadclimber oh this is exciting stuff
machine is called the bowflex
treadclimber the treadclimber combines
the motion
of a treadmill a stepper and an
elliptical into one beautiful machine
it's three workouts in one fluid motion
he can't touch it folks all you have to
do to lose weight is walk that's it whoa
walk Bowflex recommends just 30 minutes
three times a week that's it how great
is this Bowflex did a study at Adelphi
University that showed the TRC can burn
up to 40% more calories than a stepper
can burn up to two times the calories of
a treadmill Wow these are two ways to
request the treadmill info kit there are
two different ways what's in the info
can you ask I hear you the full color
glossy brochure that the scribes the
tread climb is unique motion

you can see it in motion and learn more
about the machine and finally bonus
bonus we love bonuses the Bowflex

fitness assessment 6 weight loss secrets

today forget yesterday we're talking
about today info on nutrition superfoods
and more hey did I mention it was free
walk with kevin calm did you see that
little your RL that you're supposed to
type into the browser
yeah pretty cool so the machine really
works and it's really awesome and if
you're of mind and and wondering which
machine to check out I honestly with
their sponsorship or not you can't go
wrong it's a good one and it's kind of
cool so there you go thank you Bowflex
for your sponsorship and folks go out
and get yourself one Jamie
yes'm hello hi um I'll ask her a night
we don't care that kind of thing but
more importantly there's something
that kind of went down and the viewers
know from a few weeks oh yes
that you lost her my keys are still gone
yeah this has been about a month now
yeah and now I've replaced them I
replaced all my rewards cards and
everything so that which was a pain in
the ass but the thing that's really
upsetting me is I had a 1982 Figment
EPCOT keychain on it yeah you did that
was as old as me and it's gone and I
like tried to get one on eBay and they
wanted like $30 for and it wasn't even
in good condition but I am keychain less
easy so yes shameless
I am keychain list so I was gonna ask
the viewers if they wanted to send me in
a keychain I will use said keychain I
will take photos of me using these key
chains and then we're gonna do like a
little little montage and maybe a
contest maybe we should give this the
winner or something no I didn't think I
didn't really think this through I'll
come back with something for some price
I mean we set him a t-shirt or mug or
whatever you broken mug what's out of a
broken mug nomad we got plenty of those
we're getting travel mugs made that we
are treated because because the ceramic
mugs would we're breaking so much and
we're wrapping them in Kevlar they're
still breaking yes ridiculous it's ready
um so just for the guests and people
watching who can cover it and then you
get a travel mug right um so yeah I
think we should send someone for the win
keychain we should absolutely quid pro
quo this sure so like and you know if
you can find Smith cuz people know don't
here is know what I like yeah they do
into them now Dems in the chatroom
especially so I send me your keychains
I'm gonna challenge Irish right now are
you gonna they have names why does
everyone cook there everyone in the
chatroom just call Shane and Ben Irish
their names are Jonas babe the name his
name's not Irish yes no Shane you're
looking at me ah he has a name yeah we
have a couple dollars he's screaming now
I have been challenged he has been
challenged officially by me and these a
couple of great Irish friends of the
show came out to spend some time with us
a few weeks ago we had a good time in LA
and then up in San Francisco as well we
kind of went on tour with Irish and so
much so that we got a Irish guest today
well I do before we get to ask Kevin

secretly eat and then Damon Lindelof if
you love the lost and he's writing the
new Star Trek second feature but for the
Lost fans out there Damon is one of the
co-creators and people who created all
that magic and stuff and he's brilliant
and very excited he's gonna be here May
8th Michael Chiklis
lieutenant scrotes captain scrotes
detective scrubs which was his but that
was a terrible joke from Family Guy it
was but he would remember this the
detective scrotes I think it was Stewie
wish a vegan is gone thought it was this
point Percy go tonight yes all this coin
first looks like Michael Chiklis down
there yeah and then they did a little
sketch where a pair of yeah so Michael
us goats Chiklis will be here May 15th
and then John Cho speaking of Star Trek
your new Sulu but also your a Harold not
Kumar May 22nd very excited about that
too because um I think he's pretty damn
fantastic and curious to hear his story
um you're not excited about that one at all
all
yeah I was gonna say Star Trek as she
said no Harold and Kumar gonna be very
excited about
he loves Robocop oh that I know yeah
bring any posters yeah I was surprised
you don't have heavies always thrown
around trading cards do Robocop trading
her of course he does Kenny's don't be silly
silly
quick getting is his trading cards as
needle that comes out of his fist the
computer these aren't the droids you're
looking for
now it is time for your questions a
little segment we like to call ask Kevin
ask Kevin thank you there's a K in that
she did not say ass Kevin this first one
is from Cal Kevin is there any way to
buy the audio archives of your podcast
outside of the US
well the iTunes is currently set to
international territories we should
throw a bat screen shot as well just to
prove we're not lying Simon from
Australia wants to know oh he's the next
question so yeah we hear from the UK
that they're able to get them all right
we're hearing some complaints from
Australia and I think most recently
somebody in Germany said hey what the
hell so we've got this weekend comm team
looking into this Marc Jeffrey in
particular because we do know the iTunes
setting is for international every
country that's been great fans including
Irish ah now have access to all of it or
so I'm being told so we're just
reconfirming there it is where does it
say the international setting oh just
shows all the countries there are you
idiot got it
sure enough Germany and Australia are
both green so I believe get off my jock
is the sir where I'm going next question
simon from australia writes good a Kevin
no he didn't I have a mystery for you to solve
solve
all right ready all right so on your
show I'm gonna do this is Peter Fox
Columbo when you speak to Jamie or Sam
you turn to look to your right to the
left of our screen then when they are
speaking back to you they're also
looking to their right to the left of
our screen I've been trying to figure
out how the hell that's possible what
shape is the room you are working in is
there a fourth dimension are you
reversing the video stream from Sam and
Jamie yes no yes yes no from Gary no
well you know it's pretty simple where'd
it were
I guess we're crossing the medium yeah
my camera is to the left your camera is
also to the left your left your face
left so we're not crossing the medium
the hell is your problem our crossing
streams I wasn't paying attention I
thought we were too soon we weren't
supposed to we are crossing your line so
crossing the line on purpose but the
room is square we're crossing line on
purpose because it's some it's not a
film I think that's the reason we're
crossing the line because it's not a
film and we don't care about these
things no they're over in the corner of
the square on the upper right-hand
corner from where I'm sitting and I'm
across from them and there's no real
mystery here other than the way our
cameras are set up so a cameras are to
your right um your your your left Oh God exactly
exactly
sleep take sleep take your sleep tank
yeah there there's the puzzle it's uh
it's not a puzzle
this one from Gary music Miller Kevin
terrific interview on Shatner's raw
nerve everyone should DVR it no mention
made of your terrific William Shatner
impersonation however yeah you know it's
weird you get I've been basically
mocking William Shatner's insane thing
from the Star Trek television series for
over 25 years and we became friends and
then he asked me to be on the raw nerve
and so I thought would come up and so
when he doesn't introduce it into the
conversation and it's his show it seemed
almost in polite of me to say I'm sorry
you're not gonna ask me about the
impersonation I've been doing of you for
25 years because it's in your book um so
um anywho I chose not to out of respect
and politeness bring it up myself and
then he of course did not bring it up
and I think it was sort of I read into
it anyways wrapping my brain around it
that he was kind of saying we don't we
don't need to keep talking about this do
it let's just talk about you and your
life and there you go so although I'm
hearing a lot of great feedback from
people who saw the rod nerve thing and
he's really really good I saw the Regis
Philbin interview and he
I read just to talk about stuff that we
just had clearly never talked about
before so kudos all around on that one I
had a good time and yeah DVR why not and
I'm proud you can see it online as well
this last thing here before we get to
our guests we're just 17 minutes away
from our guests by the way um I think
joke but four minutes away from Catalan
is something that we like to give away
t-shirts to our viewers
kevin Pollak Chacho t-shirt and that is
if you offer us up your own Larry King
game for our guests today I will go over
the rules again the Larry King game is
quite simple that reminds me I have to
call Larry to come on the show because I
mentioned it last week and the knife did
the whole week went by I didn't call I
ran into Larry we have an opportunity
for it to be more like one of the signs
of the Apocalypse I think would be Larry
here doing Larry King I want her to
storm out and then stone Oh we're gonna
show the montage you're better on doing
it right and then he storms out yeah cuz
I wanted because Billy Bob I wanted him
to storm out I wanted him to like go a
little crazy and then just storm out and
it didn't happen he was normal
we applied him with what he was LED
light yeah yeah we kept him in his chair
with a case on ice like we had like a
little I kind of cooler that was awesome
we did have a cool going way off the top
um so Larry King game we're looking for
that moment that Larry loses his [ __ ] on
the air and shares something about
himself that whoa too much information
it's the too much information moment so
Jeff ler L er er ler no way you took
[ __ ] about that over the course of your
life Jeff by the way just to add a
little bit of insult he's spelling Jeff
GE o FF ass beaten ass ass beaten
offered up this Larry King game again
rules bad Larry King impression bad
don't want go bad Larry King impression
too much information moment and then go
to the phone's name of the city funny
sounding helpful 1979 and motel in
Everglades Tommy Lasorda and I invented
the blumpkin
Medicine Hat Alberta go I don't know
what a blumpkin is but it made me laugh
they vetted the blumpkin it's got to be
sexual it has to be Oh
Larry King Thomas started being sexual
love it Lumpkin all right so thank you
Jeff because that's how you spell it
very much I am so excited this thank
goodness I almost let it go by in case
you're wondering hey keV you wear a lot
of schapp pose on the show if not every
single week every now and then an
especially gorgeous one this handmade
beauty comes to us from the Goron
brothers that's right
göran brothers originally from my
hometown of San Francisquito flea story
here in the LA area on Melrose and I
checked the internet and interwebs for
any information you may want on the girl
both its handmade and it's stunning in
gorgeous and made out of really nice get
stuff on thank you
Gorem brothers for this lovely ship oh
so yeah so my guess so I we met the
mutual friends and I was already a fan
and then there's that weird thing as
I've expressed the people who asked how
do you get all the people on the show
because I've I've mentioned in the past
that I've this is show 102 and I've yet
to talk to a publicist agent or manager
and I don't have 102 friends so at some
point you do have to go through go
through a go through but every now and
then I'll meet somebody in the social
situation and I'll say yeah she hit him
up be on the show and then okay I don't
want I don't want to be a nudge and I
want to be a bother and then every now
and then a little tiny door will be
opened up and they'll say well if you
really want to just you know ask um so
because I was such a big big fan of her
work I was exceptionally pleased to to
have the opportunity and if I may we
don't get enough of the fantastic
interesting and talented women on the
show there I said it
because they don't work great with me
they don't want to be with Jamie there
it is for the slam dunk please welcome
Lauren Graham hi honey
hi hey oh saying first of all a
smattering of smattering laws yeah we we
like to keep the audience out
so do i right pesky annoying although
not to start things right off but when
Jamie and I went to the Broadway yeah we
were in the audience one night oh you
were your Jim [ __ ] dandy thank you
very much
yeah yeah um and that was your Broadway
debut quantity or dossier that is - yeah
but you studied theater all through
school I did it was kind of odd that um
it hadn't come up before well it didn't
um it's I didn't get those jobs right
and um but you also did an audition for
them did you well I started in New York
and um I was working in a comedy club
like as a waitress like I didn't have
any access to anything and then when I
started getting work it was commercials
and kind of television happened more
quickly and then I moved to LA so it
took that long to identify Marin
Williamstown like it was always my night
of summer stock I did summer stock um
with Tom Wopat hello do you mean Zito
he's a Luke is he Luke Duke where he's
the other huge brunette Duke yeah that's
ways the one with the dark hair and um
so no it just kind of took that long and
you know the great thing about working
in film and television is then by the
time your theater break comes around all
the pressures on you like there's no
kind of like sneaking in and you know
doing a show it's sort of like it was a
big revival and a lot of money riding on
it and we did okay but it was an amazing
it was a childhood dream come true in
that most of your childhood dreams
should they ever come true will be
disappointing and flawed
yeah um because that that's there's no
way you could know you know as a kid how
disappointing and flawed life is and
Brussels dream yeah and so but it was
also incredibly gratifying and really
had to have been and really exhausting
and totally humbling and um and
strangely exhilarating and I would do it
again for sure well I became very good
friends with Oliver Platt who you should
have in the show who's just a gem of a
human being and Craig Bierko who's
already your friend is he you know we
had him on the show
I bet yo in New York yeah nice he does a
good Richard kind he does a very good time
time
he was also if I may a revelation in
that particular production yeah
the tremendous pressure on all three of
you yeah Ali as well doing roles that
have been done by such ridiculously
famous people in the cast is um I guess
you just have to cut that out of the
equation I didn't think about it that's
well that to me is not helpful it's like
when I first got Gilmore Girls and and I
was you know thirty or something and
people were like you're too young to be
a mom don't do that and I thought that's
like the last thing that is I'm just I
just don't think like that probably to
my own detriment I I I thought you know
it's been 15 years since the last
revival which I learned in New York is
actually not a long time no no if it was
something that people really loved um
but that's no reason not to do it you
know it's like no reason not to it was
my own I was terrified and um that's
also not a reason to do things like your
actors being like it doesn't scare you
it's not a good idea but it's also not
the reason to do something you know but
I find that wildly pretentious yeah
it's pretentious so but it was just
something I wanted to do when I had the
time to do it and I had spent so many
years being locked in a TV schedule that
exactly I sort of felt like what am I
ever gonna have
you know this chance again and it was
something that cuz I am a singer of a
kind but like I can't you know it was
something I felt I could that I just
really loved and I really wanted to do
other than scheduling I don't see any
possible reason to not do that that that
show that experience yeah everything I
think um you know I had friends in New
York at the time who there is a funny
thing there sometimes where before
something has happened
maybe there's a community that has
already decided how it's gonna go
and the the in terms of goodwill there
was there was resistance to the idea
according to the the theater and friends
you know and and I really believed that
it was a such a beautiful show and so
worth doing that we could like turn that
resistance around which you know it was
it was a success of a kind it's just in
this day something has to just last forever
forever
for everybody to make their money back
yeah oh no I find these experiences to
be far too gigantic to put A to B result-oriented
result-oriented
yeah result-driven yeah but the
financier is worried about the results
the truth is that the pressure was not
on you as an individual to sell the
tickets necessary it was on the show
yeah the group cast or the three leads
but in a big sense the we have to remove
ourselves from that and I did and I'll
say just to really bring us all the way
down but the vodkas coming so we'll be
okay um I had a real breakthrough as an
actor so often you know pull up your
pillow because this is gonna be a boring
story but I had a breakthrough as an
actor in not trying so hard to please in
you know the name of the game is to be
an entertainer and it's not about you
and your experience and it's not about
the stupid pressure that's odd that you
feel or anything it's like an all that
focus on any of that makes you just a
crummy entertainer and like you know it
was about everyday meeting the that
group of people where they were that day
which was sometimes like and you really
is it becomes as you know I mean it's a
what's one person in a way you know it's
like our persons kind of cranky tonight
our person didn't like the rain like you
know the audience becomes this one kind
of person you're trying to woo in a way
and and have a good date with you know
and and I heard it put that movie that's
pretty damn articulate sure it took me
out of myself eventually in the
beginning I was like this person doesn't
like me I don't think they're gonna call
me again like that following that model
and then eventually I was like I know it
doesn't matter it's it's my connection
you know I'm going to enjoy this story
and you know give give this experience
like as positive a sort of effort as I
as I can and it was a really big deal
because because then you're free in a
way and then of course that happened
after the really important weeks where
you know the important people came but
but did you guys talk about this during
rehearsal well I became dear friends
with Oliver Platt and we both had our
own sort of challenges you know and and
I had never done besides my triumphant
six nights as Dolly and Hello Dolly yes
high school six two weekends nice um and
then something similar williamstown we
do a couple weeks I had never done
something more than the same you know
performance more than a handful of times
and that is a just really unique
experience and I don't even know how
many we did over a hundred and you know
you go into kind of a uh how do you keep
that alive you could you could only can
kind of know and when you're when you're
there um but yeah we talked about it and
and and it became kind of a thing every
night I'd be like I think you know I'm
okay we were having a good time it's
going okay I mean it really was like you
know a blind date every night but it's a
shared experience for you in a cast
mm-hmm as it's happening
mhm you can look at each other in the
scene mm-hmm why you're okay while
you're performing the hell out of that
scene yeah still make a mental
connection that says they they're
[ __ ] tonight I don't mean just
you're looking at each other yeah well
those sort of things happen yeah I would
imagine yes well and and there were some
what was curious even more than that to
me well first of all you know kind of
from the minute you come out you know
that's where you feel what what it is
gonna be and maybe what your challenges
of the evening are going to be and then
we'd sort of go back and re strategize
accordingly you know because there were
nights where even for this big beautiful
musical comedy it just sort of felt like
the heart of it was more important in a
way than you know it wasn't a sum of
these jokes are really out of time
anymore and and didn't it wasn't
necessarily going to be the laugh riot
it may have been you know in the 50s so
and we tried to really bring some
humanity to it and some nights I would
be like that humanity is so boring
we should really be funnier and you know
sorry I just sort of played with that
and there were some scenes you know and
this is such well-written material that
has absolutely stood the test of time
there were a couple of things and a
couple of moments that I don't really
think I ever cracked and that to me was
as kind of amazing as anything like how
what puzzle is this you know it's not
it's not even you know dense language
it's it's a simple in a way but it was
but also there's a like you said there's
a sense of performance nuance that there
there's just going to be certain moments
throughout the show that you're you're
gonna feel like yeah I still haven't
done crap on sometimes you know it's not
not putting it on anyone else but
sometimes there's a technical reason
we're in a very unusual space was very
tall and sometimes you know I'd hear
from people like we couldn't see you
then because it's this old theater it
used to be a burlesque theater and and I
don't know what the girls were doing
swinging off the you know ceiling but it
was very real I tell you I don't know
what they were doing were they doing the
50s Kevin something dangerous but with
all their clothes on no yeah um and a
fire hazard and so you know sometimes it
was like you were on a little piece of
scenery that had to move and therefore
you have to get up on it at a certain
time so that you can move off with I
mean sometimes it's some strange
technical thing right and sometimes you
just sucking yeah no yeah yeah yeah sure
well also um from you know my background
is not in theater at all I came from
stand-up comedy so all of my live
audience experiences come from just me
talking mm-hmm so it's it's
exceptionally rare that I've had any
sort of shared live community on stage
other than my few sitcom experiences mm-hmm
mm-hmm
so but what I do know and can relate to
is once you've had that great audience
that in terms of how it's going each
night unfortunately there's a place in
your brain that only compares it to that
one great show and tries to get back
what you felt you had that night that
made that work removing the element of
it was just a good crowd you know it is
lightning in a bottle yeah yeah and so
that then it becomes I would think more
about the shared experience of what
you're doing as a castle
well it was it was it was a shared
experience in that I hadn't been part of
such a big ensemble like that again in a
long time and and I felt a just an
incredible respect for yeah the people
who do that the work that is you know
those dancers who kill themselves and
have to keep their bodies looking
amazing and get injured all the time and
you know I any time I sort of felt
complainy I would just think you know
that that once upon a time had been my
dream I just wanted to be in the
ensemble of something I wanted to be in
a theater company somewhere you know and
and and so you reminded all the time of
how fortunate you are you know really
and and I don't know we so that part of
it was was really fun and I would say to
I'm kind of a loose like I don't usually
do something the same way twice and you
know I'm not super technical and and it
it really forced me to if you're going
to change the nuance of something you
may lose the moment you know it's really
it's lightning in a bottle but it's also
like you have to really be incredibly
precise in in in acting I think in
general but there's way more yeah
there's way more room in in certain you
know filmed media because you you the
mercy of someone else is gonna maybe
change it anyway and and this was like
you know I had to go through a couple
weeks of like I'll just play with this
tonight look you know like and that
didn't work and like coming back to the
language really has a music and and you
keeps telling you how to play it like
you know any Shakespeare or anything and
if it's well written you can't you you
don't need to really mess with it and if
you do you're gonna screw it up yeah did
you study the Shakespeare when in your I
did yeah I'm in the Vietminh the Masters
of fine master's program programming in
Texas Texas where so all the wonderful
Shakespearean actors good I wanted to
ask why did you go there I wanted to ask
quickly Barnard College yeah and then
Southern Methodist well I was an English
major at Barnard I
wanted to be in New York City but I'm
from a academic family and I couldn't
quite I tried going to acting school for
a year as seven at 17 I was 17 when I
went to college and it was just too many
so I went to NYU my freshman year I was
17 I'm an only child and for the first
time of my life I'm sharing a room with
two other people I'm rolling around on a
floor like now and like doing other and
I was like I don't know what I'm doing I
don't know what I don't know what's
going on here this is a completely
bizarre yeah experience and and so I I
thought I need you know to do something
more familiar to me which is which is
you know study the gluten a more
traditional way and so I went there and
then I got out of college and I was um a
cocktail waitress The Improv which which
meant that after a time and it's still
something that's a terrible trait but I
can watch any very funny comedy and just
go hmm that's funny
instead of laughs it's awful do you that
was a cocktail waitress The Improv in
New York sorry I was just in Pittsburgh
Jews nothing no schumacher Kate wake up
with The Improv in Pittsburgh I was a
cocktail waitress at the improv in um
also Chicago there you go yeah and does
it make you bad laugher though do you
not laugh no I don't think I was always
so busy I wasn't really paying attention
to the thing and if you really tuned in
to listen to whoever's performing you're
gonna drop your drinks so like you have
to kind of you know keep up but that was
an interesting time too because some
amazing people went through there and
you see them die or live every night and
you would see the same material over and
over and over Dave Attell work the door
there then do you know him mm-hmm um and
it's just I have had always such a love
of comics
it's very sick love yes it never works
out well never works out well um they're
so depressed uh-huh it's restoring so
much pain yeah I am I missed that whole
thing it's probably because I wasn't
from the New York City I was from the
other side of the country where or just
the different kind of family upbringing
was worthy depressed self-loathing
Jew was just not anywhere near the Jews
I grew up around uh until I met New York
Jews that I thought what's your problem
so weird and I don't know that it's a
California New York Jew thing yeah but
wait so do you know happy comedians who
are well-adjusted looking at one good
job 19 oh yeah there are other there are
other guys that I kind of came up with
who didn't have to be self-loathing yeah
I want her to be funny yeah they could
be soap involved yeah her so cystic as
hell how are you let me just tweet now
but the self-loathing thing no it wasn't
pardon part and I don't know that that
that was you know I I did I don't know
how many of the most truly hazed
themselves but I know that as a
community different from actors it was
much more competitive
yeah well competitive but
self-deprecating and um more it's like
hard on the sleeve kind of uh I just
love that your culture and and it's
gonna go into the like talk-show world
of you know I don't know yeah well
you're also they're all they're always
on the high wire when they perform I
mentioned this the solo aspect so when
you live and die by your own wits on
stage moment by moment and an audience
can turn on you after being in love with
you for five minutes and then suddenly
you've lost them so that whole aspect of
one's life and job is about as
ridiculous and wrong as any performing
art should be yeah so you do get a lot
of very insecure offstage kind of
personality plus it was sort of the end
ish but still in that time of comedy
being a really popular late 80s early
90s you know and the Gold Rush we called
it was the gold rush of comedy Dan Santa
know renin not even Gregor listen this
is what happened
not even Craig use strolling this is a
sponsor for Bing Crosby O'Hara Nathaniel
hurry beause of that stole Taniya so the
story of why we're getting if I could deliver
deliver
so come on in yeah come on in this way
look good special guest stars yeah over
here you know you won't be Mike so I'll
try not to talk but do something funny
with your body yeah
perfect and well done wait a second now
we're barking laughing Oh get back in
here how many stories you tell today
where the guests were drinking you're
like and then Billy Bob came in and boy
was he a barrel of laughs and he had no
personal 25 beers I've mentioned as many
times it's Seth MacFarlane god bless
inside here and drank a bottle of Jack
Daniels over two hours and was he
funnier at the beginning or at the end
or know it's a true drinker it didn't
really adjust his personality at all
right right know that and and you know
um I always tried to remember and
clearly I didn't in an email saying if
there's any sort of liquid that you
would like on hand please look out it's
on the case of Billy Bob um his friend
said you know he does like the Bud Light
and I remember every time I'd been to
his house sure enough it was on a like a
robotic arm thank you Wow but like um
and then so so yeah so who else um what
would Dana Carvey was here he loves the
beer so we had we were drinking yelling
I think that today with Dana Carvey
because of some sort of penguin game
that was yeah because I was back in when
the Penguins yeah yeah we understand the
cup yeah we want to say a couple of
years yeah um it was a Canada thing this
is going great
you're doing a wonderful job thank you
so much that's a giant mouth okay to the
host Jesus HW oh no she doesn't
all right now you can how you can take
it all with you take take away the
average where the whole thing
Josh come in here and help oh yeah I'm
going over to you
yeah no she's right let's make Jamie all
right my back up so okay so let me segue
slowly but ever so not so delicately to
on the I you thinking to oppression from
mutual friend ah I a couple of questions
came in from I'm not gonna say what you
meet you a friend yet okay
for the viewers
and but they might know immediately
based on question one other than Matthew
Perry and you enjoyed working with um
God who could that be from gosh work
together one we work together on a movie
called Birds of America ah great
uh one that everyone remember look at
everyone saw no not that one that was
one of those things where you work and
it's great fun and it's amazing and the
people say yeah it's gonna be good and
then you go to Sundance and get like a
free hat um no actually the first time
we worked together was on studio 60
right um where I played myself which
I've had sort of a funny or whatever
list of career things that I want you
know that I thought would be impossible
when I first started and um celebrity
jeopardy was one of them various talk
shows such as Letterman did you do
celebrities ever I did and I came in a
very close second to Chris Matthews who
killed me in things like opera and also
and I really enjoyed um him but he did
yell out a lot of things and they was
sort of asked him to ring in but then
he'd already kind of gotten it and I'm
not saying he cheated but um I think you
are no because he did you know eight it
was just so fun he's a giant man you
know and he'd be like nah like and he
just like yell the thing out it's not
like his personality at all and we're
talking about I have too many yes you
dink give me the coffee okay unless you
want a speedball I'm not sure you're
gonna make the coffee anymore this is
just water
yep but I don't want to lose the Kevin
no no you keep the why's it looks so
much like you um and with your like John
T curl like on your forehead like you
know and if not for the Hat you would
see the jaunty curls um so so you
weren't Mathew on the studio 60 and on
the coming to America which I don't
remember you being in a mood
were you Arsenio Hall which they're
playing on the church thank you um
there's two you darlin oh thanks yeah I
mean I'm Irish 100 that's good oh my god
um yeah so I played his wife in um this
really lovely independent film birds
America the nobody saw can people see it
on the Netflix or the
yeah it's out on the cable right now -
because I remember him talking about it
like this was really special it it is
special and he's so good in it it was um
Jennifer with a G Jennifer Goodwin is in
it and Ben Foster and foster love Ben
fast yeah so it just is such a it's like
a quiet story that I don't know it so
hard for those to find their way but um
having known him already at that time
for a long time sure I was really
impressed with how he approached this
work which I don't know it to me wasn't
like anything I'd seen him do and um
we're still talking about Matthew Perry
we're gonna talk one for a long time
because apparently ad no no no Weston
and um and I want to reiterate for the
people who might have just joined us and
he was really good so yeah and uh well
it was fun - I'm glad we covered the fun
part first
oh no it's because question two from
Matthew apparently he used to call you
on occasion to mention how much he
couldn't believe that you and your
have you watched I think probably 30
seconds just you know to be a good
friend sure you know of the of the
Gilmore program and from then on for
years and years and years he he would
pretend like you know that was had come
up again in episode which not shockingly
actually one of the things he saw did
which is that we were often late to the
town meeting and so I don't know it's
really no it can't be any funnier than
that and then the fact that he would
call me and he'd be like so uh you and
you and that Rory and better better
hurry Town Meeting Town Meeting starting
any minute we're always like running
across the Potomac Debbie could go and
say that he couldn't believe you were
lady that is so hard better like you
ladies earn and worried yeah yeah oh my
god are you why don't you and your
daughter care enough he asked Gilmore's
yeah I know to actually go to the damn
meeting on
Oh God that makes me laugh there was
another thing where we where somebody
was fixing the roof and for the longtime
he'd be like right now are you still up
on the roof cuz you should come down you
know it's uh it's cold up there um but
so yeah that's um no think um the
Gilmore Girls programs over yeah do you
love that show
yeah yeah he just couldn't you know
every time you got thirty seconds of it
he'd I don't know much you love it yeah
huh well my god but look so let's talk
about um the sort of wonderful moment
isn't that then became many years but
that wonderful moment after coming up
through television away so many of us
and others do which is you're on this
show first it's a pilot is the pilot
can't even get a timeslot that anyone's
gonna care about so it we've talked
about it on this show before with other
people but it's almost become like
winning the lottery to actually all the
elements to line up in a show to have a
chance to have a life mmm-hmm so I think
going through your dossier by the time
you got to Gilmore Girls it was one of
these things where you had probably had
enough experience you definitely had had
enough experience so that you couldn't
get emotionally involved right away did
you have that protective layer at first
maybe during a pilot process was like I
love you and I love the crew and I love
everyone and this is a great experience
but I can't put it all out I can't allow
my heart to get broken again kind of I
would say I'm like that to this day yeah
you know I it wasn't until we were deep
into season five exactly actually that
that um I thought oh this is you know on
longer than most things um well that was
kind of my question was leading to which
is at what point do you allow yourself
to not be result-oriented as we talked
about in theater your theater experience
but rather it because you're right
you're after a year you know certainly
the first year is a success second year
is more of a success but still there's
never really ever a moment until you're
at the
party in Year seven that you went wow
that was a show we did a series well you
have to stay like that and also on you
know a smaller network like the WB I
mean during that time we changed which
one I'm sorry it sound like you said the
WB we went from the WB to the see if it
became a completely other network and
many shows were lost in that transfer
and every year you know relative had
what was else was happening in
television not been going on we may not
have stayed any of that time had we not
started Thursday night opposition
friends sure we may not have lasted
because they expected absolutely nothing
from us and that's pretty much what we
delivered until the sort of like fan
base you know caught on so so many
things you know I do remember um one day
in the second season
Peter Roth who is still head of Warner
Brothers television came by with like a
some other muckety-muck and I was like
well that's never happened before like
no one ever came by to visit the trailer
to just say hi you know and I thought
wonder if this show is important to him
like a but I'm so unfocused on that stuff
stuff
that I it didn't even really I didn't I
didn't get it but I would say in your
like five or something then then you
start getting into the numbers game of
well if they've gotten this far they've
renegotiated a contract once or twice
they'll keep us through you know then
you sort of get maybe you know you have
a year of work in the coming year but
that's not much you know we just all
start to like get used to that and and
then it was really shocking when the
show ended not to have that structure
which I've gone my whole life we've we
all go our whole lives in this career
having no structure and kind of there's
got to be part of you that likes that or
you wouldn't be able to take it you like
it and then you get it the structure as
you did for seven years and then it
becomes an extended family and 14 hour
15 hour days you're obviously spending
more time with the work family than you
are with your own and I think it's just
organic and part and parcel that it
becomes so much structure that you get
lulled into a sort of peaceful place of
activeness and security and and that's I
think more emotional than than career
well I think you got I mean it is a rare
thing to know you can pay your mortgage
you know I mean it's stuff like that you
get sort of attached to to that and that
show was also for how happy and buoyant
sort of the story was and and you know
had these elements of kind of fantasy
and wish fulfillment it was a grind
technically sure to do and it was a you
know a writer like an Aaron Sorkin who
wanted every word as written and there'd
be these long speeches and so we do
those long speeches over and over until
they were you know perfect and and that
that is a grand was his heart
it was just hard but you know it meant
that our days were 1416 hours every day
for seven years and that changes
everything I mean that changes your
health and your sense of what a day is
and let you know yeah
and so it's so many things when
something like that comes to a close
there is the part of it that you but how
can I live without it what will I do you
know and then there's no think all this
freedom yeah and a little bit of a
relief which I was feel terrible saying
because the show ended in kind of a
funky way and a lot of people weren't
happy with the end and I feel
responsible for I wish that that had
been a gratifying experience for the
people who stuck with us all that time
but it was we didn't have our creator by
the end last year and and the tone had
changed and you know so in that way it
wasn't the same show we started with and
it was it was a relief to be done but
then yeah it's a it's a very strange and
I assume I won't probably have another
run that long I mean this show we're
doing could Parenthood could go for a
while you know but I I think it's just
still built in that you just assumed it
could also always just end yeah and it's
just it's um by very virtue of the
elements it's a completely and utterly
different cast experience
the Parenthood yeah so even if it
god-willing runs seven years it'll be a
considerably different experience
workload and everything else and I cuz I
imagine ensemble as big as Parenthood
your your only having to work two three
days a week as opposed to yeah and I
remember like when close to Flockhart
ended on Ally McBeal and then she did
bros and sisters this ensemble show and
I was like that's so crazy she could do
her own thing and I did and I when would
again try to do what Matthews done and
you know be part of developing a show
and I didn't get picked up but part of
the concern and interest which is which
is an older person's thing frankly was I
don't I can't physically do that again
and it would not benefit no matter you
know it's sort of like the career takes
its place in a way you know it's I'm
very important to me but I there's just
certain ways I just don't want to work
anymore well the word balance starts to
come into your life in your late 30s and
you start to think of if there's a way
to balance these two I need to figure
that out because it can be a career that
nevermind how many hours in a day you're
working you can especially living here
you everywhere you go it's like a
billboard a thing an old boyfriend like
you know you can never escape it if you
if you live that way and if you get in
that world of like who's getting what
and who's going where and you know it's
can be just a real isn't that a fun
thing to leave behind yeah isn't that
great when you finally get to a point
where you're slowly removing those
thoughts yeah yeah because the only way
to survive initially is to be aware of
those things to be on your game to have
your finger on the pulse blah blah blah
but it becomes and if you have any
competitiveness in you in a sports kind
of way even coming up I know you're a
bit of a tomboy as a kid then it's also
kind of at times an energizing oh yeah
game oh I would think I mean for years I
probably slept like four or five hours a
night when I was doing that show I was
like in the adrenaline of all the stuff
that was happening and and all the work
I had to do was really energized
actually and I loved the verbal kind of
you know nature of that show and and how
the banter was pretty amazing yeah it
was it was really well-written and it
was something that I liked and and had a
taste for and and you know can memorize
quickly and all these things became sort
of like a badge of honor of like this is
such a this is something that's so
fulfilling you know and then how many
years before you actually felt like you
were present how many seasons before you
was that fairly early
what do you mean present in the
experience what was happening I still
couldn't tell you I mean you know
because of my fear of the internet which
we're gonna get it
we're gonna get you that next actually
um I'm fascinated by your fear of the
Internet I would say you know you can't
believe how naive I have been and
continue to be about certain aspects of
show business it's like it's like I
don't learn from the experiences because
I I really don't get um I I don't have a
great objective sense of what's you know
happening and um so I would probably
you're learning more from life than
career I don't know I just I don't cuz
there's no rhyme or reason to what we're
doing professionally there's no justice
there's no fairness you know any of that
there's no if you're a good person this
will happen those little don't applause
not necessarily I mean I've seen some
talented people you know not kind of not
catch their shot absolutely you know I
mean we've seen all kinds of things in
and I would say behavior being rewarded
Charlie Sheen on the phone and I would
say absolutely I came in with so much
fearlessness based on absolutely nothing
yeah because I would say it was not a
high self-esteem it just was like some
kind of ambition and and fearlessness
the only way I can say it because now
there are things that I did back then
and funny auditions and I was like I
don't have to do with this I'll just
tell do a voice like I you know just
things I would choices I would make out
of pure kind of like I wanted to make it
interesting for myself and now sometimes
it's more like oh my god they'll
probably hire blah blah
more you know almost it can be it can it
can open you up in it in a take away the
bribery yeah and the boy boy the fun of
it so so it's like I don't know was your
question was I in it I think I was very
present in the beginning and I would say
near the in the last couple of years I
felt like the story kind of lost its way
and so it started being a little harder
to tell right I remember right there's a
there's an episode where like somebody
and I don't know what your this is but
someone dives into a giant pizza of
course they do and it's not meant to be
a fake pizza it's meant to be a real
pizza and I I would just always remember
that as the feeling of like I don't know
what's happening anymore
I I've lost the like you know I the show
changed so much from the beginning was
much more realistic and there got sort
of more fanciful and it was awesome at
every turn but I remember you know you
still have to connect to it at some
point and when you're not connecting you
have to question what the hell happened
oh it's your job to always you know make
sense of yeah sure we we like to involve
our live audience okay whenever possible
I asked ahead of time for some cushions
on Twitter and our social media
executive Elaine Ewing handles the
Facebook questions as well we're
completely covered on the interwebs as
much as you fear it this was questioning
fact came from the Facebook Taylor Heigl
wants to know Lauren Graham is pretty
much a legend at Langley high school Oh
former Langley students my friends and I
are wondering what she was like in high
school we were also curious if she ever
had MS LaVey as a teacher la vie ey I
don't think so okay um I was I would say
I quote I was a bunch of different
things in high school I did theater in
high school I one year was on the drill
team I'll say I was at Langley I was a
Langley Saxa net which even at the time
I was like I don't know what who I had a
vision of like that's something you
should do in high school is like we're a
little skirt and like get on the bus and
you're like saddle shoes or something so
even then feel it like sort of an acting
job or something but I penny all right
um but I was something I wanted to do
and then um my friends were I was
friends with a lot of the guys who then
would have been called the geeky guys
sure but who um you know of course are
all handsome and talented and turned
into like you know the people you who
you would not call that anymore and but
and I had sort of like cool girlfriends
and years and years later like the two
groups kind of came together and you
know became friends and so the geek the
geek shall inherit the earth
that's and they're doing so now so of
course they're getting the drill squad
control team mascot that's what the guys
called he goes oh guys called it the
drill squad right um uh but I was
awkward I mean I will say like I you
know for all the sort of socialist
things I did I felt awkward like if
anyone's hot feel awkward in high school
I feel like there were some people who
didn't really as as much as I think they
were faking or they were able to cover
it better I remember these girls in
particular I don't know there's some
people I think who have confidence um
through difficult times I really do I
think those people are oblivious that's
I think a tear in this is bliss yeah and
I think those I agree with you there are
people who came off as very confident
yeah well and I thought I don't think
they know what's going on right yeah I
don't think they know that there's
actually pressure to be had here because
we're formulating our experiences into
security yes age and if you if you know
what's going on you couldn't be secure
could you I don't know or or did they
just figure out how to um it none of it
mattered yeah but that's confidence too
that's just having a sense of yourself
in time and and enjoying yourself I
think there were people who were having
a better time I I was like worrying
about you know I don't know I was just
like worried about school and and they
were there people had more ease it
seemed to me no question well on the
drill team hmm did you come across any
Mean Girls yeah sure
yeah um you don't have to name them this
another thing we do here at the show in
the form of questions from the viewers
yes is a rapid-fire this or that Coke or
Pepsi and there's five of them okay and
they're called thanks to Dave Koechner
tweet 5 was it forever
yeah exactly David Koechner decided
Koechner where we um we're on a bus
going through the south it was like a
mock documentary um and he's a funny
funny dude ridiculous yeah hmm he sat
here and we didn't know where we were
yeah yeah we thought we'd gone to a
different place yeah yeah yeah we
thought we've done two Koechner bill
yeah and in fact we had thankfully this
tweet five comes from Facebook is that
scientifically possible the tweet five
there must be a book five um again
rapid-fire no correct answer television
or plays Oh God
I don't television I guess East Coast
West East chocolate or Mike and Ikes
chocolate kissing Billy Bob Thornton or
Scott Patterson Oh God right ah man
that's supposed to be easy I got it I
mean BBT man he's he was you know that
is a correct answer right okay yeah okay
Sorkin or sherman-palladino Oh Palladino
you know yeah what are you talking like
these are designed to like ruin your
life yes they are that's exactly right

wasn't anin you know what I mean yeah that
anin you know what I mean yeah that sense of um is he doing it on purpose
sense of um is he doing it on purpose that's the only thing I would like to
that's the only thing I would like to ask or find out at some point because
ask or find out at some point because like the fake steam he's not making
like the fake steam he's not making anything other than an attempt at a
anything other than an attempt at a false reality and and technically trying
false reality and and technically trying to fool people and when it takes you out
to fool people and when it takes you out of the movie
of the movie you've actually accomplished the
you've actually accomplished the opposite well the fake this thing we're
opposite well the fake this thing we're not the only ones it bothered is we go
not the only ones it bothered is we go really saying okay I go so the for this
really saying okay I go so the for this is words by other words if you people

just things that are available to you like I think he has that cool so why
like I think he has that cool so why wouldn't he use it it didn't used to be
wouldn't he use it it didn't used to be available now it's available and I think
available now it's available and I think it's almost like the I gets confused and
it's almost like the I gets confused and and and begins to believe this is what
and and begins to believe this is what reality looks like I would argue in the
reality looks like I would argue in the same way that with the tools of like you
same way that with the tools of like you know things we can do to our faces as
know things we can do to our faces as women in particular like you start to
women in particular like you start to lose you can see the people who lose the
lose you can see the people who lose the way you know in terms of like what looks
way you know in terms of like what looks appropriate I think that's what I'm
appropriate I think that's what I'm asking and and I don't know because for
asking and and I don't know because for some people all of that magic you know
some people all of that magic you know both physically and technologically
both physically and technologically makes the movie makes a movie better and
makes the movie makes a movie better and we can you know whatever reason in our
we can you know whatever reason in our household we watch jaws over and over

maybe if you wanted to expand the category you know and add add one more
category you know and add add one more and like which sometimes happens when
and like which sometimes happens when something ties or something ten is don't
something ties or something ten is don't don't insist that it can only be five if
don't insist that it can only be five if some years is appropriate that needs to
some years is appropriate that needs to be sane or sometimes it needs to be four
be sane or sometimes it needs to be four well and I would say that about actors
well and I would say that about actors too it's like every category yeah just
too it's like every category yeah just just have it be but then you have weird
just have it be but then you have weird people campaigning for what how many
people campaigning for what how many they think it should be that year or
they think it should be that year or something but when you say weird people
something but when you say weird people campaigning do you need Harvey Weinstein

in the category of like I it was a really wonderful movie and it's a
really wonderful movie and it's a thriller I don't know it's like somehow
thriller I don't know it's like somehow maybe because I've been brought up on
maybe because I've been brought up on the Oscars I expect things to be more
the Oscars I expect things to be more that's an achievement as a movie more
that's an achievement as a movie more talking more people talking and more
talking more people talking and more sort of like the human connection but I
sort of like the human connection but I think I'm you listen both and that was
think I'm you listen both and that was an amazing it's more xual more spectacle
an amazing it's more xual more spectacle than an emotional connection but still
than an emotional connection but still very well done so far I'm okay with our
very well done so far I'm okay with our topics is he since he was not nominated

positive that kind of movie it's like you don't the actor doesn't sort of get
you don't the actor doesn't sort of get the credit but in general I think he's
the credit but in general I think he's excited about there for him to do I
excited about there for him to do I guess or something I mean or stretch or
guess or something I mean or stretch or well I don't know I just you know it all
well I don't know I just you know it all comes down to there's there's just so
comes down to there's there's just so few great stories and great scripts and
few great stories and great scripts and he's been nominated many times hasn't he
he's been nominated many times hasn't he oh yeah well thinking of the UM you know
oh yeah well thinking of the UM you know Revolutionary Road the Yeats thing like
Revolutionary Road the Yeats thing like he was for that right that to me I
he was for that right that to me I thought was really great but you know
thought was really great but you know sometimes these parts that are gonna get
sometimes these parts that are gonna get you the nominations are like a bummer of
you the nominations are like a bummer of a movie that nobody wants to make you
a movie that nobody wants to make you know and the kids are all right I didn't
know and the kids are all right I didn't see that there's not a single character
see that there's not a single character in the film to root for I'm shocked at
in the film to root for I'm shocked at the film's getting all the love that it
the film's getting all the love that it is okay we hated it

not bring myself to see it I can only say in my smile small-minded way that I
say in my smile small-minded way that I thought so I'm gonna watch a guy slowly
thought so I'm gonna watch a guy slowly decide to cut off his arm exactly it's
decide to cut off his arm exactly it's gonna be fascinating and Danny Boyle
gonna be fascinating and Danny Boyle great filmmaker it's gonna be amazing
great filmmaker it's gonna be amazing right okay like a person in my Petula I
right okay like a person in my Petula I understand it even still like if it if
understand it even still like if it if it when you when you see the the little
it when you when you see the the little montage of it today as you will when you
montage of it today as you will when you believe this interview will you feel
believe this interview will you feel more compelling all the trailers and
more compelling all the trailers and previews I saw four it made it look like
previews I saw four it made it look like the feel-good picture of the year right
the feel-good picture of the year right by just that - it's just like just tell
by just that - it's just like just tell me it's about the guy bites off his arm
me it's about the guy bites off his arm like don't sugarcoat it
like don't sugarcoat it don't make it look interactively
don't make it look interactively speaking though you do know he doesn't
speaking though you do know he doesn't bite his own
bite his own I'm not ent Homer no the shark does it
I'm not ent Homer no the shark does it it's Homer Simpson that tried to fire
it's Homer Simpson that tried to fire his arm out shark line but how does he
his arm out shark line but how does he get he doesn't know never blew me have
get he doesn't know never blew me have to eat it up no he's good he doesn't
to eat it up no he's good he doesn't have any to use a tool oh he does think
have any to use a tool oh he does think he's got a cutting device huh it could
he's got a cutting device huh it could be a rock I like my version better when
be a rock I like my version better when he has buddy buddy all in himself
he has buddy buddy all in himself tearing the flesh much more bold right
tearing the flesh much more bold right in fact I have no respect for the
in fact I have no respect for the character not real life they didn't chew
character not real life they didn't chew it off just bite it social network other
it off just bite it social network other than the breathing I enjoy breathing
than the breathing I enjoy breathing just suffered for me from like I saw it
just suffered for me from like I saw it too late in the game after people had
too late in the game after people had just like you know I thought it was a
just like you know I thought it was a really smart movie that it was you know
really smart movie that it was you know about something again pretty simple and
about something again pretty simple and um we thought it was very well told and
um we thought it was very well told and very well acted and very well directed
very well acted and very well directed and everything was done very very well
and everything was done very very well in the film itself is not exceptional I
in the film itself is not exceptional I was sort of hard take off I'm with her
was sort of hard take off I'm with her on that it that it was - everyone was
on that it that it was - everyone was blowing it like oh my god is the best
blowing it like oh my god is the best movie ever and then you see and you're
movie ever and then you see and you're like it was good yeah you know I'm sure
like it was good yeah you know I'm sure were what our are our expectations like
were what our are our expectations like what am I
what am I I always feel especially as an actors
I always feel especially as an actors like when I've slaved away at something
like when I've slaved away at something somebody's like man it's okay I'm like
somebody's like man it's okay I'm like you understand like so I don't know
you understand like so I don't know where I get off ever being like you know
where I get off ever being like you know I don't know it could have been bet you
I don't know it could have been bet you like I couldn't have been better because
like I couldn't have been better because actually there's I you know when I first
actually there's I you know when I first started doing half hour and like it's
started doing half hour and like it's just the cubicle my family would be like
just the cubicle my family would be like I don't know it's not very funny I was
I don't know it's not very funny I was and I for the first time realizing like
and I for the first time realizing like there's 25 people who went to Yale who
there's 25 people who went to Yale who like rewrote this joke seven times like
like rewrote this joke seven times like it's it's actually way harder than you
it's it's actually way harder than you think in every way and then at the end
think in every way and then at the end of the day if you're looking for the
of the day if you're looking for the reaction from strangers or family
reaction from strangers or family they're only going to tell you I
they're only going to tell you I wouldn't like how it you know what it
wouldn't like how it you know what it did for them as opposed to of ever
did for them as opposed to of ever appreciating what the hell went into it
appreciating what the hell went into it so that is one of the things that makes
so that is one of the things that makes me a little nutty normally about
me a little nutty normally about criticism and that's why I want to keep
criticism and that's why I want to keep this light as we're doing yes this isn't
this light as we're doing yes this isn't real criticism we're just kind of going
real criticism we're just kind of going down the list all right
down the list all right because yeah there's way too many people
because yeah there's way too many people working hard and giving their lives to
working hard and giving their lives to this for example Toy Story 3 do you know
this for example Toy Story 3 do you know how many stuffed animals were killed in
how many stuffed animals were killed in this from Toy Story 3 also haven't seen
this from Toy Story 3 also haven't seen I heard it's great if you see this is a
I heard it's great if you see this is a crazy category you don't cry I will I'm
crazy category you don't cry I will I'm creating Toy Story 3 you have no soul
creating Toy Story 3 you have no soul but dude we're talking to you core 11
but dude we're talking to you core 11 these no soul why are these movies all
these no soul why are these movies all in the same category I got 17 more Jesus
in the same category I got 17 more Jesus True Grit I didn't see it I love Jeff
True Grit I didn't see it I love Jeff Dianna bridges how great is Jeff bridge
Dianna bridges how great is Jeff bridge he's the man he can't win two years in a
he's the man he can't win two years in a row but I will tell you his performance
row but I will tell you his performance in this is by far the best performances
in this is by far the best performances I don't know why I didn't see that now
I don't know why I didn't see that now these are all just making me feel guilty
these are all just making me feel guilty winter Bone Winter's Bone yeah winter
winter Bone Winter's Bone yeah winter bone um I didn't see it you know uh I
bone um I didn't see it you know uh I haven't even met anyone who's seen
haven't even met anyone who's seen Winter's Bone other than professional
Winter's Bone other than professional film critics yeah Wow Emily just yelled
film critics yeah Wow Emily just yelled from the other room that she saw it um
from the other room that she saw it um maybe show type in her her her is it on
maybe show type in her her her is it on your pick for like an Oscar win it's on
your pick for like an Oscar win it's on no one's pick other than a film critic
no one's pick other than a film critic who might want to be different um okay
who might want to be different um okay so that's other thing about ten pictures
so that's other thing about ten pictures get to be nominated now but only five
get to be nominated now but only five directors so your five actors it's still
directors so your five actors it's still it's a total it's it's silly yeah it
it's a total it's it's silly yeah it should be either a giant just
should be either a giant just free-for-all of like 10 people in
free-for-all of like 10 people in everything
everything or if you work with the Coen Brothers
or if you work with the Coen Brothers yet I don't know so the people who've
yet I don't know so the people who've sat here that have worked for them yeah
sat here that have worked for them yeah kind of speak similarly in the
kind of speak similarly in the experience that um you just but you've
experience that um you just but you've had those experiences I'm sure where you
had those experiences I'm sure where you just kind of go ah in the hand they
just kind of go ah in the hand they close your eyes and fall back into their
close your eyes and fall back into their arms and everything's gonna be fine well
arms and everything's gonna be fine well because no matter if it hit hits or
because no matter if it hit hits or doesn't they have a point of view and it
doesn't they have a point of view and it doesn't seem like they're trying to
doesn't seem like they're trying to please anyone else and they create a
please anyone else and they create a world and that's actually the hardest
world and that's actually the hardest thing also when you're an artist and
thing also when you're an artist and your work is only compared to your other
your work is only compared to your other we right right as a filmmaker especially
we right right as a filmmaker especially that's that's the most rarest and how
that's that's the most rarest and how many of those guys do we have there are
many of those guys do we have there are girls we have a handful there just
girls we have a handful there just outside this door can we bring them in
outside this door can we bring them in yeah um also this question in the middle
yeah um also this question in the middle how do you decide when to take a
how do you decide when to take a question I sense it mm-hmm um Matthew
question I sense it mm-hmm um Matthew Perry this one comes in from the emails
Perry this one comes in from the emails oh that old thing who was one of your
oh that old thing who was one of your favorite guest stars that appeared
favorite guest stars that appeared during the Gilmore Girls run people who
during the Gilmore Girls run people who are comings and goings did you have a
are comings and goings did you have a favorite and you know what one of the
favorite and you know what one of the favorites let's take the pressure off of
favorites let's take the pressure off of having to do a Sophie's Choice thinking
having to do a Sophie's Choice thinking um you've had many favorites many they
um you've had many favorites many they were all my favorites I think I what
were all my favorites I think I what comes to mind Sally Struthers sure um
comes to mind Sally Struthers sure um hopefully just an insane character but
hopefully just an insane character but Sally as a person is someone that I'm
Sally as a person is someone that I'm really glad to have met and worked with
really glad to have met and worked with and how about that as a byproduct of
and how about that as a byproduct of your job an ridiculous I mean the people
your job an ridiculous I mean the people who sponsored me to join the TV Academy
who sponsored me to join the TV Academy you know so that you can vote for things
you know so that you can vote for things were Marion Ross this is Cunningham sure
were Marion Ross this is Cunningham sure mr. C and and Sally Wow like it's just I
mr. C and and Sally Wow like it's just I I feel you know imagine we went to Mount
I feel you know imagine we went to Mount Rushmore to get yours exactly but I
Rushmore to get yours exactly but I appreciate the I appreciate that yeah
appreciate the I appreciate that yeah you know there's there's a sense and and
you know there's there's a sense and and now I'm gonna sound really just old but
now I'm gonna sound really just old but I feel that people younger actors don't
I feel that people younger actors don't have maybe as much appreciation for
have maybe as much appreciation for or what kind of came before historically
or what kind of came before historically speaking you know in pop culture
speaking you know in pop culture television theater I mean you know when
television theater I mean you know when I grew up I like idolized Katharine
I grew up I like idolized Katharine Hepburn and I'm you know getting to like
Hepburn and I'm you know getting to like a group age now where you know I say the
a group age now where you know I say the names of people and sometimes you know
names of people and sometimes you know they don't know who I'm talking about
they don't know who I'm talking about was that part of your youth I know your
was that part of your youth I know your dad had a great influence on you and
dad had a great influence on you and becoming a big time reader mm-hmm but

Katharine Hepburn guy um or hey Tommy - anything that was you know going on in
anything that was you know going on in in DC and so I need to take you to
in DC and so I need to take you to theatre and he would take it to New York
theatre and he would take it to New York to theater sometimes to ballet and just
to theater sometimes to ballet and just kind of whatever was around so I think
kind of whatever was around so I think it just gave me a sense of just cuz this
it just gave me a sense of just cuz this thing doesn't look like something that's
thing doesn't look like something that's familiar to me doesn't mean I you know
familiar to me doesn't mean I you know shouldn't investigate it and and and
shouldn't investigate it and and and yeah I think you know there were books
yeah I think you know there were books probably about like Sarah Bernhardt and
probably about like Sarah Bernhardt and like the the you know first ever real
like the the you know first ever real you have theater actors and and and kind
you have theater actors and and and kind of a sense of that history and then
of a sense of that history and then there was the four o'clock movie did you

I think um you're okay to drive yeah dork I'm having an Oscar party you
yeah dork I'm having an Oscar party you realize yeah who isn't I was like five
realize yeah who isn't I was like five people there starting without me
people there starting without me um give me give me what life was like
um give me give me what life was like because I know our own Jamie spent some
because I know our own Jamie spent some time working uh for the fine folks at
time working uh for the fine folks at Disney World she was in charge of a cart
Disney World she was in charge of a cart I had a popcorn one hit a popcorn wagon
I had a popcorn one hit a popcorn wagon but you spent two days as a mascot for
but you spent two days as a mascot for America's World Cup soccer team
America's World Cup soccer team absolutely striker the dog we're talking
absolutely striker the dog we're talking about that and what I enjoyed most about
about that and what I enjoyed most about the story was that how you shared how
the story was that how you shared how while you were a cast member as they
while you were a cast member as they would be called at the Disneyland which
would be called at the Disneyland which meant you had a giant head mask so no
meant you had a giant head mask so no one could see your face who was inside
one could see your face who was inside of the giant strike of the dog as you
of the giant strike of the dog as you pose for each photo you were actually
pose for each photo you were actually smiling you the person's right inside it
smiling you the person's right inside it tried to not try to tyrannize yeah try
tried to not try to tyrannize yeah try to pose for a picture when someone's
to pose for a picture when someone's like okay one two three
like okay one two three like dropps fine if you're gonna beep
like dropps fine if you're gonna beep you're gonna insist on breathing logic
you're gonna insist on breathing logic into this but I ask you this young lady
into this but I ask you this young lady you admitted at one point that you had
you admitted at one point that you had spent goodly amount of the day more than
spent goodly amount of the day more than half before you finally thought oh my
half before you finally thought oh my god I'm smiling and then it was an
god I'm smiling and then it was an effort not to smile I mean those were
effort not to smile I mean those were just terrible terrible times you know
just terrible terrible times you know those were days no that was two days but
those were days no that was two days but that was a time of having like really
that was a time of having like really weird you know catering jobs where I'd
weird you know catering jobs where I'd have to wear like a uniform and shoes
have to wear like a uniform and shoes like you know working like lunch rooms
like you know working like lunch rooms and stuff and and I did the Toy Fair Day
and stuff and and I did the Toy Fair Day those beers yeah I mean I actually think
those beers yeah I mean I actually think yeah the Toy Fair not so terrible but
yeah the Toy Fair not so terrible but doing like convention II things and you
doing like convention II things and you know just like anything the car of the
know just like anything the car of the future
future Oh dad I didn't really do that that
Oh dad I didn't really do that that would have been more like modely Church
would have been more like modely Church was not my thing but just you know
was not my thing but just you know leaving Brooklyn in the morning was like
leaving Brooklyn in the morning was like a garment bag and you know a dream and
a garment bag and you know a dream and sitting like various diners all day and
sitting like various diners all day and coming home like may I suggest that's
coming home like may I suggest that's the name of your second book first one
the name of your second book first one but your second book which is the first
but your second book which is the first one I'm leaving Brooklyn with a
one I'm leaving Brooklyn with a government
government bag and a dream yeah um I I do want to
bag and a dream yeah um I I do want to hear a little bit about the well we
hear a little bit about the well we talked briefly about Billy Bob
talked briefly about Billy Bob but the Bad Santa thing you were only on
but the Bad Santa thing you were only on the movie said prior for two weeks
the movie said prior for two weeks well the whole movie was only six
well the whole movie was only six probably really yeah it was a very small
probably really yeah it was a very small budget and no one really knew what it
budget and no one really knew what it was at all that it was going to be one
was at all that it was going to be one of his biggest hits by far kind of thing
of his biggest hits by far kind of thing people were all the producers were like
people were all the producers were like we don't know we're not sure is it funny
we don't know we're not sure is it funny you know and he really had a vision for
you know and he really had a vision for it from the beginning like he really
it from the beginning like he really knew what that character was what the
knew what that character was what the world of the movie was and I was
world of the movie was and I was remember this I hope this is an
remember this I hope this is an embarrassing Tim but like he after he
embarrassing Tim but like he after he saw it um he said somebody asked him if
saw it um he said somebody asked him if he liked it and he said there's not one
he liked it and he said there's not one thing I would change which as someone
thing I would change which as someone who never feels that way you know about
who never feels that way you know about things I and tried not to watch anything
things I and tried not to watch anything I just thought there was such um that
I just thought there was such um that was so revealing I'm like what kind of
was so revealing I'm like what kind of an actor he is and how he really knew
an actor he is and how he really knew what he was doing in that you know yeah
what he was doing in that you know yeah it kind of strangely works right well of
it kind of strangely works right well of course you're talking about Billy Bob
course you're talking about Billy Bob Thornton it's one thing to as a strong
Thornton it's one thing to as a strong independent woman come into your own and
independent woman come into your own and have various levels of work and friends
have various levels of work and friends and success but until you you're on film
and success but until you you're on film and get to holler
and get to holler [ __ ] me Santa I don't know that you
[ __ ] me Santa I don't know that you really have a right to adjust call
really have a right to adjust call yourself a woman of any kind that's kind
yourself a woman of any kind that's kind of what I was going for um bundling but
of what I was going for um bundling but as fun as that might have been in front
as fun as that might have been in front of a crew and in front of a rolling
of a crew and in front of a rolling camera I have to wonder what an audition
camera I have to wonder what an audition for such a thing must have been well I
for such a thing must have been well I didn't want to go to the audition
didn't want to go to the audition because I didn't understand I was like I
because I didn't understand I was like I don't what the hell is this I don't
don't what the hell is this I don't underst I did not understand the it Reds
underst I did not understand the it Reds so dark on the page that that dark isn't
so dark on the page that that dark isn't not funny
not funny yeah dark or dark not funny and mean his
yeah dark or dark not funny and mean his character is very me
character is very me yeah spirited and this is before maybe I
yeah spirited and this is before maybe I knew it was him because once you will
knew it was him because once you will now knowing him just that southern kind
now knowing him just that southern kind of charm he has yeah there's like
of charm he has yeah there's like something about him that's so so lovable
something about him that's so so lovable and you also know he gets the joke when
and you also know he gets the joke when you talk to him yeah when you read it
you talk to him yeah when you read it you're saying there's no joke to get
you're saying there's no joke to get it's just me the seam will really mean
it's just me the seam will really mean yeah and the kid you thought was gonna
yeah and the kid you thought was gonna be then an appetizer I never read the
be then an appetizer I never read the script so I have to assume when you read
script so I have to assume when you read the script your character comes off as
the script your character comes off as um so sort of [ __ ] not just flooded Oh
um so sort of [ __ ] not just flooded Oh more like as a human just sort of um
more like as a human just sort of um discarded by life kind of if it reads
discarded by life kind of if it reads dark and serious yeah then I read this
dark and serious yeah then I read this as sad and not totally and also not
as sad and not totally and also not enough to play with I was like I don't
enough to play with I was like I don't know who this person is why does she
know who this person is why does she like this guy and didn't you know what's
like this guy and didn't you know what's the yeah it seemed like um some weird
the yeah it seemed like um some weird like fetish movie you know who are like
like fetish movie you know who are like me and it wants to [ __ ] Santa that's all
me and it wants to [ __ ] Santa that's all yeah but then I was like well that's no
yeah but then I was like well that's no weirder than you know musical theatre
weirder than you know musical theatre where it's like bill yes Mary
where it's like bill yes Mary yeah and they're in love they don't mean
yeah and they're in love they don't mean it's just like that's it and so I just
it's just like that's it and so I just kind of went at it from that standpoint
kind of went at it from that standpoint of like this is no weirder than then his
of like this is no weirder than then his thing and you know who who doesn't love
thing and you know who who doesn't love Santa that was sort of my bot and I and
Santa that was sort of my bot and I and I thought and some people just love him
I thought and some people just love him that much more um and yeah that was my
that much more um and yeah that was my question too at the time I mean I just
question too at the time I mean I just went in and humped the chair and said
went in and humped the chair and said you know she's spelling title of your
you know she's spelling title of your first book ha ha ha I just went in and
first book ha ha ha I just went in and umph the chair followed by he doesn't
umph the chair followed by he doesn't love Santa yeah um so yeah uh and and
love Santa yeah um so yeah uh and and you know I don't know it just was a
you know I don't know it just was a funny lucky great thing yeah but I mean
funny lucky great thing yeah but I mean also I would imagine in that situation
also I would imagine in that situation not only reads dark and tragic but in
not only reads dark and tragic but in order to bring it to life in an audition
order to bring it to life in an audition you have to feel something funny is
you have to feel something funny is being watched
being watched well I thought I was a character actor
well I thought I was a character actor like I never thought I would end up
like I never thought I would end up playing you know any kind of leading
playing you know any kind of leading lady so I always like think about the I
lady so I always like think about the I like the small
like the small all the parts with the weird people you
all the parts with the weird people you know and and and and and sometimes and
know and and and and and sometimes and this is not a compliment I'm giving
this is not a compliment I'm giving myself but like funny when I don't mean
myself but like funny when I don't mean to be here I mean like I've gone in on
to be here I mean like I've gone in on things where I didn't I wasn't I was
things where I didn't I wasn't I was trying so actually you know and and so
trying so actually you know and and so my take on things is just helpful if
my take on things is just helpful if it's a weird kind of comedy you know and
it's a weird kind of comedy you know and and um so I don't think that I that's
and um so I don't think that I that's just what I relate to more I just kind
just what I relate to more I just kind of went with breeze something different
of went with breeze something different into it yeah you know the act of someone
into it yeah you know the act of someone in a room jerk humping a chair it's just
in a room jerk humping a chair it's just like you know you're gonna get like
like you know you're gonna get like without trying yeah
without trying yeah yeah that's a chair yeah not a person no
yeah that's a chair yeah not a person no no and also who does this like what
no and also who does this like what whose job is this you know thing - it's
whose job is this you know thing - it's done crazy you know it's as stupid as
done crazy you know it's as stupid as like back in the day when I didn't
like back in the day when I didn't really know in an audition like should
really know in an audition like should you my everything and you'd like open a
you my everything and you'd like open a car door what are you doing like why are
car door what are you doing like why are you doing that like they'll do that for
you doing that like they'll do that for you you know but when you start you
you you know but when you start you don't know I had regretable moments in
don't know I had regretable moments in auditions like I thought because I
auditions like I thought because I wasn't theater trained I came from
wasn't theater trained I came from stand-up so I had no formal training and
stand-up so I had no formal training and had to learn how to how to do a lot of
real moments in acting I basically learned from going on a hundred
learned from going on a hundred auditions yeah
auditions yeah in terms of being present and being true
in terms of being present and being true so I would try to make up from what I
so I would try to make up from what I knew would be not a great audition by
knew would be not a great audition by coming in and taken over the room yeah
coming in and taken over the room yeah you know so I literally would walk in
you know so I literally would walk in the room say who's uh cuz it be nine
the room say who's uh cuz it be nine executive whose office is this cuz we
executive whose office is this cuz we can get you a bigger one
can get you a bigger one yesin yeah and having been on the other
yesin yeah and having been on the other side of that now this is what happens
not always tomorrow no obviously not or you would not be sitting here I mean the
you would not be sitting here I mean the oh wait the check was good
oh wait the check was good and you're right I'd stop for a minute I
and you're right I'd stop for a minute I didn't notice it because some people
didn't notice it because some people like that sometimes and that's probably
like that sometimes and that's probably how things started happening for you
how things started happening for you because I have a you know relationship
because I have a you know relationship to that kind of thing - I was like break
to that kind of thing - I was like break it up yeah but just be yourself
it up yeah but just be yourself so that you're not waiting for them to
so that you're not waiting for them to tell you who to be you know or you're
tell you who to be you know or you're not waiting for them to give you
not waiting for them to give you permission to start it's like you know
permission to start it's like you know yeah what's that I shouldn't make sure
yeah what's that I shouldn't make sure that everything was okay over there uh
that everything was okay over there uh Meryl Streep that phony-baloney
Meryl Streep that phony-baloney Meryl Streep holy terrific I'm thinking
Meryl Streep holy terrific I'm thinking inspiring on several levels
inspiring on several levels unbelievable cumulative I mean the thing
unbelievable cumulative I mean the thing is also the mother hand aspect of the
is also the mother hand aspect of the real person talent aside I just was too
real person talent aside I just was too out of my mind with admiration to enjoy
out of my mind with admiration to enjoy it as much as I wish I had I had a small
it as much as I wish I had I had a small part in this movie one true thing when
part in this movie one true thing when Renee Zellweger had just done Jerry
Renee Zellweger had just done Jerry Maguire and was her next movie I played
Maguire and was her next movie I played her friend and and that the whole thing
her friend and and that the whole thing was unlike I just only the second movie
was unlike I just only the second movie I'd ever done and so with Meryl Streep
I'd ever done and so with Meryl Streep and William Hurd and but honestly that
and William Hurd and but honestly that was one of the first times I was like I
was one of the first times I was like I have to get a grip because I couldn't be
have to get a grip because I couldn't be in these scenes properly you know I
in these scenes properly you know I eventually would get there but it was I
eventually would get there but it was I I just brought so much admiration
I just brought so much admiration it's like gets in your way you know it's
it's like gets in your way you know it's not you can't you can't work when you're
not you can't you can't work when you're like I really look up to you know it's
like I really look up to you know it's like it's gonna mess up everything else
like it's gonna mess up everything else that's absent you were able to relax in
that's absent you were able to relax in it actually she was great she uh takes
it actually she was great she uh takes away all that she takes away all that
away all that she takes away all that and she's just so good and she's very
and she's just so good and she's very real she's been nice to me since then
real she's been nice to me since then how many movies has she done since then
how many movies has she done since then that she 72 remembers me and as always
that she 72 remembers me and as always and even in that movie was like you're a
and even in that movie was like you're a good listener you know this is like was
good listener you know this is like was was I don't know if imagine what a
was I don't know if imagine what a burden it must be to be Meryl Streep and
burden it must be to be Meryl Streep and in the way that every actor brings so
in the way that every actor brings so much of that kind of thing you know to
much of that kind of thing you know to you and and the cheeks I dunno it turns
you and and the cheeks I dunno it turns out like me and then I went the other
out like me and then I went the other way and started like I ran into her at
way and started like I ran into her at something and I started getting real
something and I started getting real sassy cuz I was like I have got to just
sassy cuz I was like I have got to just get this whole like uh you know um
get this whole like uh you know um nervous thing under control so she said
nervous thing under control so she said she said something about something she's
she said something about something she's like I mean you know what it's like to
like I mean you know what it's like to be she's making a joke at her own
be she's making a joke at her own expense like you know and it's like to
expense like you know and it's like to be Meryl Streep I was like oh you don't
be Meryl Streep I was like oh you don't have to tell me
have to tell me day after day what the [ __ ] are we doing
day after day what the [ __ ] are we doing I'm like she probably loved I guess but
I'm like she probably loved I guess but I mean I can go the other way too but
I mean I can go the other way too but she was really just really great and
she was really just really great and again you know that kind of movie it's
again you know that kind of movie it's just about a family a relationship it's
just about a family a relationship it's you know there aren't enough of those as

how do you do paper I wrote them by hand I didn't yeah you didn't hand them in by
I didn't yeah you didn't hand them in by hand uh not if not in the later years of
hand uh not if not in the later years of college but yeah you could still kind of
college but yeah you could still kind of get away with that Wow Wow then your
get away with that Wow Wow then your penmanship isn't it really good yeah
penmanship isn't it really good yeah yeah um
yeah um it and then capital G's ever a problem
it and then capital G's ever a problem cuz there's a couple extra loops in
cuz there's a couple extra loops in there for me I block print
there for me I block print alright then yeah I'd have no cursive um
alright then yeah I'd have no cursive um and then I went to acting school so who
and then I went to acting school so who was doing anything technological there
was doing anything technological there and then by the time I don't know I it
and then by the time I don't know I it and then it came from not to bring us
and then it came from not to bring us down but to me the world is a much
down but to me the world is a much meaner place than it was in this
meaner place than it was in this business when I started here I've lived
business when I started here I've lived here now ten years there were no little
here now ten years there were no little kids on skateboards with cameras that
kids on skateboards with cameras that they then turn into TMZ there were no
they then turn into TMZ there were no people whose job it is that day to go
people whose job it is that day to go find a picture of somebody cellulite so
find a picture of somebody cellulite so you can guess whose it is like there was
you can guess whose it is like there was none of that and and it actually really
none of that and and it actually really disturbs me and and so I just sort of
disturbs me and and so I just sort of chose to check out of it it's like if
chose to check out of it it's like if I'm not gonna look for myself which I'm
I'm not gonna look for myself which I'm not I don't want to look for anybody
not I don't want to look for anybody else I don't want to it's like so when I
else I don't want to it's like so when I say I have a fear of the internet it's
say I have a fear of the internet it's like I don't want to be hooked in to
like I don't want to be hooked in to certain information that I feel is like
certain information that I feel is like but how about information the love
but how about information the love subject Alan would I be it cooking or
subject Alan would I be it cooking or whatever not sure but I think that they
whatever not sure but I think that they get awfully mixed don't they it's like
get awfully mixed don't they it's like you know um I really like The Huffington
you know um I really like The Huffington Post but you know it has a lot of like
Post but you know it has a lot of like Tiger Woods alleged you know hooker in
Tiger Woods alleged you know hooker in the feel like there's just some stuff
the feel like there's just some stuff that I feel like you can't get away from
that I feel like you can't get away from and and so when I say fear it's like I
and and so when I say fear it's like I knew that you know Facebook was not also
knew that you know Facebook was not also because I'm just sort of can get very
because I'm just sort of can get very involved like I literally went on
involved like I literally went on YouTube one day looking at brutal cold
YouTube one day looking at brutal cold Broadway clips and I woke up and it was
Broadway clips and I woke up and it was like two weeks later like I could I
like two weeks later like I could I cannot be allowed to you know it I just
cannot be allowed to you know it I just get kind of into these things that then
get kind of into these things that then I'm not like you know part of society or
I'm not like you know part of society or whatever so check out ya know and and
whatever so check out ya know and and there's so much to see in in other ways
there's so much to see in in other ways that um now I do wish that I could I
that um now I do wish that I could I says and I know I would love all this
says and I know I would love all this stuff to like I know I would love
stuff to like I know I would love Twitter I would love Twitter it's like
Twitter I would love Twitter it's like people being funny and hearing from
people being funny and hearing from people I think are interesting
people I think are interesting day I think it's you know it's genius
day I think it's you know it's genius but I I already it's the time it's the
but I I already it's the time it's the investments the looking at the phone
investments the looking at the phone it's like you know there's another
it's like you know there's another article in the in the paper today about
article in the in the paper today about you know someone went and did like a
you know someone went and did like a simulated driving while looking at the
simulated driving while looking at the phone and like crashed 50 times you know
phone and like crashed 50 times you know just looking for like one second and I
just looking for like one second and I I'm afraid I'm afraid of phones the
I'm afraid I'm afraid of phones the internet but so you know for me it's
internet but so you know for me it's like I don't look at the those magazines
like I don't look at the those magazines and it's I either because the gossip
and it's I either because the gossip finds its way to you anyway that stuff
finds its way to you anyway that stuff finds its way to you anyway yeah and I
finds its way to you anyway yeah and I just try to and it is some weird thing
just try to and it is some weird thing it's like you know how I feel like if I
it's like you know how I feel like if I it's like my little boycott is gonna
it's like my little boycott is gonna have some effect nobody's gonna give a
have some effect nobody's gonna give a [ __ ] like everybody's doing none of
[ __ ] like everybody's doing none of these things are gonna be affected I
these things are gonna be affected I don't really think it's a boycott I
don't really think it's a boycott I think it's what works for you and your
think it's what works for you and your Sensibility
Sensibility yeah at some point you realize this is
yeah at some point you realize this is not for me so yeah I don't I don't know
not for me so yeah I don't I don't know that you've ever just from what I'm
that you've ever just from what I'm guarding from the conversation that
guarding from the conversation that you've taken a stance as much as for me
you've taken a stance as much as for me personally yeah too much of a
personally yeah too much of a distraction or just bad stuff that I'd
distraction or just bad stuff that I'd rather not have involved in my life but
rather not have involved in my life but I wish I could go the other way like you
I wish I could go the other way like you know um there was somebody on the
know um there was somebody on the Broadway show who like read all reviews
Broadway show who like read all reviews I knew like every single thing good and
I knew like every single thing good and bad and so then I mean but did you do
bad and so then I mean but did you do the traditional thing where you go to
the traditional thing where you go to the restaurant after opening night
the restaurant after opening night Sardis no because they come out now like
Sardis no because they come out now like that it's all the shows going on
that it's all the shows going on literally get on the right path nodding
literally get on the right path nodding your head before that because now you
your head before that because now you know you have really preview and like
know you have really preview and like it's out like anyone you might as well
it's out like anyone you might as well have been yeah that's the other thing I
have been yeah that's the other thing I find so I mean it's always been true
find so I mean it's always been true that critics they're gonna they're gonna
that critics they're gonna they're gonna themselves if they have their own eagles
themselves if they have their own eagles which of course they do they're gonna go
which of course they do they're gonna go further and be talked about and quoted
further and be talked about and quoted more and part of a poster and part of a
more and part of a poster and part of a thing if they're negative so they all
thing if they're negative so they all seem to well if I don't have anything
seem to well if I don't have anything bad to say why am I talking sort of
bad to say why am I talking sort of mentality as a poll as opposed to the
mentality as a poll as opposed to the great tradition of it being an essay and
great tradition of it being an essay and breaking down the actual elements so it
breaking down the actual elements so it seems more and more hurtful to any
seems more and more hurtful to any production and all the people working
production and all the people working my vision as standing back from the
my vision as standing back from the Broadway experience which is old boy
Broadway experience which is old boy like Adam Sandler's made a career of
like Adam Sandler's made a career of don't ever read the reviews because they
don't ever read the reviews because they simply do not matter in terms of what
simply do not matter in terms of what we're attempting to do in the success we
we're attempting to do in the success we will have how can we possibly [ __ ]
will have how can we possibly [ __ ] care
care but in theater it seems like it's always
but in theater it seems like it's always been part and parcel even the tradition
been part and parcel even the tradition to go into Sardis as I mentioned after
to go into Sardis as I mentioned after at the end of opening night and staying
at the end of opening night and staying up till 4:00 in the morning till the
up till 4:00 in the morning till the reviews give me the newspaper dropped
reviews give me the newspaper dropped off on the sidewalk we all have that
off on the sidewalk we all have that visual that all seems to have been
visual that all seems to have been advanced by technology in terms of I can
advanced by technology in terms of I can hate it faster than you and so yeah I
hate it faster than you and so yeah I don't know how altum Utley anyone
don't know how altum Utley anyone benefits from that and and you know at
benefits from that and and you know at some point I think the audience becomes
some point I think the audience becomes a little savvy to it although I've I've
a little savvy to it although I've I've quoted many times which is you'll never
quoted many times which is you'll never go broke under estimating the c-minus
go broke under estimating the c-minus students that make up this country but I
students that make up this country but I do think they catch on at a certain
do think they catch on at a certain point of I'm not going to let the
point of I'm not going to let the reviews tell me it's going to be whose
reviews tell me it's going to be whose names on the marquee it's some
names on the marquee it's some combination of so many things it's
combination of so many things it's there's a revival competition is what
there's a revival competition is what people feel like seeing what you know
people feel like seeing what you know and I think that's one of the bigger
and I think that's one of the bigger things yeah competition yeah people ask
things yeah competition yeah people ask me why I'm not playing Vegas I go
me why I'm not playing Vegas I go because thirty of the greatest acts on
because thirty of the greatest acts on the planet or up and down the strip
the planet or up and down the strip every nightmare right Garth Brooks us
every nightmare right Garth Brooks us down at the wind sorry yeah I miss Bette
down at the wind sorry yeah I miss Bette Midler cuz she's at Caesars yeah what
Midler cuz she's at Caesars yeah what are we talking about yeah yeah so I
are we talking about yeah yeah so I would think the competition a situation
would think the competition a situation like Broadway with all the names bigger
like Broadway with all the names bigger and bigger and bigger and bigger bigger
and bigger and bigger and bigger bigger which is pretty fantastic if you're a
which is pretty fantastic if you're a ticket get the buyer it's fantastic and
ticket get the buyer it's fantastic and they'll so there's I mean to me one of
they'll so there's I mean to me one of the most moving things was in this
the most moving things was in this economy mmm people families coming and
economy mmm people families coming and doing what was clearly their traditional
doing what was clearly their traditional week in New York to see theatre I
week in New York to see theatre I couldn't believe how many people we were
couldn't believe how many people we were still getting that you know we're there
still getting that you know we're there to have that experience and that's what
to have that experience and that's what they are spending their money on under
they are spending their money on under stay in a hotel and they're eating in
stay in a hotel and they're eating in Times Square and they're you know and
Times Square and they're you know and and like God bless it made me really
and like God bless it made me really and also having God's Guys and Dolls
and also having God's Guys and Dolls experience as a family which would mean
experience as a family which would mean something yes that's what I was gonna
something yes that's what I was gonna say that it was great that it was Guys
say that it was great that it was Guys and Dolls cuz I hate now how there's
and Dolls cuz I hate now how there's like the summer blockbuster of the of of
like the summer blockbuster of the of of musicals now like with the spider-man
musicals now like with the spider-man and then Addams Family and Shrek it's
and then Addams Family and Shrek it's like they take something that's popular
like they take something that's popular and they make this horrible musical out
and they make this horrible musical out of it they should just do more
of it they should just do more traditional more revival yeah well bye
traditional more revival yeah well bye because then you're competing with those
because then you're competing with those you know with big um but no video for us
you know with big um but no video for us we got to have the guys and dolls
we got to have the guys and dolls Broadway experience and for all these
Broadway experience and for all these families that are coming right that's
families that are coming right that's what I'm saying the family should go see
what I'm saying the family should go see yeah more shows like Guys and Dolls
yeah more shows like Guys and Dolls hi Greg's like who is that guys because
hi Greg's like who is that guys because then they just they it's become like the
then they just they it's become like the summer blockbuster it's alright so it's
summer blockbuster it's alright so it's part of our tradition is part of our you
part of our tradition is part of our you know American history that we should be
know American history that we should be very proud of I mean we have some really
very proud of I mean we have some really beautiful musicals that do get revivals
beautiful musicals that do get revivals and and you know do get performed and
and and you know do get performed and and um but yeah it's you know it's the
and um but yeah it's you know it's the business model has changed like anything
business model has changed like anything and I mean well we have to wrap up cuz
and I mean well we have to wrap up cuz I'm going to see Rock of Ages hey I like
I'm going to see Rock of Ages hey I like Rock of Ages oh yeah Rock of Ages I know
Rock of Ages oh yeah Rock of Ages I know I liked it too
I liked it too they're making it into a movie oh thank

goodness yeah I hope they use Constantine come on Mozza team is
Constantine come on Mozza team is awesome that's what everyone says he's
awesome that's what everyone says he's great yeah yeah the lead the female is
great yeah yeah the lead the female is sherry just so they can sing oh sherry
sherry just so they can sing oh sherry after believe it um you've got a party
after believe it um you've got a party to host um I'd like you to start
to host um I'd like you to start wrapping your thoughts around what a
wrapping your thoughts around what a Larry King game might be for me how
Larry King game might be for me how about that take your time I'm gonna buy
about that take your time I'm gonna buy a little time okay all right but but
a little time okay all right but but it's coming up yeah as we've reached the

point where I need to let you go you're gonna be late for your own damn party
gonna be late for your own damn party so basically when you're feeling it that
so basically when you're feeling it that is your camera and again it's kind of
is your camera and again it's kind of that bumper moment well Larry will share
that bumper moment well Larry will share something and then go to the phones like
something and then go to the phones like he decides to share this too much
he decides to share this too much information moment it's almost like why
information moment it's almost like why did he just talk about Oreo cookies you
did he just talk about Oreo cookies you know for no reason at all okay and then
know for no reason at all okay and then you go to the phones okay um mMmmm
you go to the phones okay um mMmmm sometimes I'm confused by the rattling
sometimes I'm confused by the rattling sound in my pants Moffat exes
sound in my pants Moffat exes we have a winner no more calls pencils
we have a winner no more calls pencils down

thank you so much there's a little more Regis though don't you think

talking the people who watch the show can't can't really believe it that
can't can't really believe it that actual conversation is taking place so
actual conversation is taking place so yeah yeah that's great for them well
yeah yeah that's great for them well it's almost it's it's a strange
it's almost it's it's a strange adjustment to make um from our
adjustment to make um from our standpoint to where you're used to
standpoint to where you're used to having a much more false conversation
having a much more false conversation that has been three plans out of time
