hello everyone here are ways to protect
yourself when using the whatnot app now
for those who don't know what not is
what not and I just grab this off of
their social media page as well as the
App Store a social marketplace where you
where you can discover some of your
favorite products like sports cards
sneakers luxury handbags we can buy sell
go live and geek out with other
like-minded people so basically a
nutshell what what not is it's an app
where you go on there and hosts have
live streaming auctions where you see
the product right in front of you and
you bid on the product to win the
product and obviously you pay money now
it's not just an app where you bid on
products and you get for example this
pen where you bid highest bid or wins
the product there are games that people
host that hosts have on there on the app
you need to be weary and protect
yourself when you are playing these
games it's actually kind of shocking to
me that what not allows folks to do this
because for me it's it's basically
gambling uh you're just not gambling for
money per se you're you're gambling for
products and prizes so
um the biggest thing you need to be wary
of is predetermined games now I'm not
going to specifically name any host uh
I'm in the Lego Space when I do this but
there are different hosts that are very
popular that have different types of
games people that are new and upcoming
so the first game I want to talk about
is draw games so basically what happens
is there are usually between 25 and 50
drawers in their own number between 1 to
25 1 to 50. to make it easier we'll do
one to 25. now the problem is they could
be played many different ways so what
happens is there's a there's a floor
there's a ceiling and there's an average
so the the host is required to tell you
what the value of the lowest product is
with the value of the highest product is
and the average of all the products so
typically what will happen is 25 drawers
they're numbered and there could be a
figure that's worth or an item that's
worth two hundred dollars and then some
things that maybe in between like 50 or
75 or 30 and then the rest are like five
dollar things so you're bidding on a chance
chance
to win the item that obviously is worth
the most money now the problem with this
and there's different variations of the
game this is just the the simplest
version of the game that people do is
that the host knows what numbers have
the highest value products it's
predetermined So that obviously creates
a problem as a seller a seller could be
I'm not a seller but the seller may not
be honest and whatnot has no way to control
control
what the seller is doing so the seller
could have 25 things they could tell a
friend hey come to the stream bid this
is the number you're going to pick or
they could tell another user hey you
know give me a couple extra bucks I'll
tell you which number to pick that is a
problem and if you don't think it's happening
happening
you know that's on you I won't say for
sure whether or not it's happening but
everybody knows that it's a possibility
so you need to protect yourself do not
play games that are predetermined the
next thing is blind bags in this space
what will happen is a seller could put
50 bags 25 bags and in the same scenario
they can be numbered or they are
numbered the seller knows which bag
is the bag that has the most expensive
items in it
they could do the same thing there's no
way for what not to control these types
of games to make it truly honest and
truly fair to the buyer now other things
that I've seen Blind Bags happen is
blind bags where they do say 100 blind
bags or 200 Blind Bags you never
actually see what's in the blind bags so
the seller doesn't always do all the
Blind Bags they have on the table in one
day so there's no saying that the seller
has to put I mean they're supposed to
obviously but there's no one that is
controlling the blind bag game that if
you do it over the course of multiple
days that the figure that's worth the
most money or the item is worth the most
money was even available on day one day
two day three and there's been plenty of
streams that I've seen that this has
happened so beware of these types of
situations don't put yourself in a
situation where you're bidding on
something where it's predetermined or
you don't know for sure without a shadow
of a doubt that what you think you may
be able to win is actually there uh the
third one that I want to go over here
and then I'll give a couple other things
too is card games
so what I've seen is a card game of 23.
what will happen is uh if you it's
basically like Blackjack again gambling
but blackjack's 21 this is called 23 and
23 the odds are completely different
than 21 for blackjack
um and a couple things here so
what not does control that they have to
shuffle on screen and they have to draw
the numbers on screen and what happened
is say there'll be like three tiers of
figures if your boss you get one tier
the typically the figures that are worth
a couple bucks or the item uh if you hit
23 you'll get like the highest tier and
then you have a tier weight you get
between like 17 and 20. you get this
tier Prize or 20 through you know 21
through 22 you get this it's weighted
differently like that but the thing
about it is there is no one to control
the cards that they are using so the
seller could say hey I got a full deck
of cards you don't know that Stellar
could take cards out make it so the odds
are even more in their favor these are
the type of games that you need to stay
away from to protect yourself so let me
know what you all think and just a
couple other things too I've seen here
um like numbered prizes so instead of
doing like the card games or or blind
bags I've seen people lay out like 25 or
50 numbers you build a number they flip
the card over and you win X prize so
predetermined again stay away from that
uh and Plinko I've seen that it's
another thing they create their own
Plinko boards they can make the boards
put the things in different spots and
make it so that you know the likelihood
of you getting the biggest prize the
most expensive prize not very good uh
let me know what y'all think and I will
say this I have spent thousands of
dollars on whatnot but I protect myself
when I play these games or I just stay
away from the games altogether I think
it's a great platform if you're just
gonna buy and sell things and you want
to do it like hey go on there auction
starts a dollar three dollars whatever
the case is and you buy away but you
know that you're getting that that
particular item and you're not playing
any chance you're not gambling so you
know when you go in here just protect
yourself make sure you stay away from
these predetermined games let me know
what y'all think if you have any
experiences pods experience I've had a
lot of positive experiences had some
negative ones to learn to hardly on some
of these things but again stay away from
the predetermined games maybe what not
maybe they'll see this video I'm not
sure but it seems to be a problem to me
that you cannot control these things and
it is their platform so if y'all are new
here slap that subscribe button plenty
more videos in common looking forward to
