3:27 several years ago that so impressed me I
3:29 wrote it in the margin of my Bible next
3:32 to Psalm 8.
3:36 the title of the poem is an Epitaph
3:40 found somewhere in space
3:43 as you know an Epitaph is a statement
3:56 in Desolation here A Lost World lies
3:59 all wisdom was its aim
4:06 it sounded ocean deeps it measured the skies
4:14 and fathomed every mystery
4:22 what is man that's life's second most
4:24 important question
4:27 a life's most important question is who
4:29 is Christ
4:32 what think ye of Jesus Christ is life's
4:38 and if you sit here today and say well
4:41 Jesus Christ is a good man or a teacher
4:44 or an example or a prophet but he's not
4:47 the Savior he's not the Son of God then
4:52 and I would implore you with all of the
4:54 love of my heart
4:59 to bow down before Jesus Christ and say
5:07 life's most important question who is Christ
5:12 life's second most important question
5:20 now you can't really separate these two
5:24 because Jesus Christ became man
5:27 the God man
5:29 and man must have been mighty important
5:33 for God to leave the Throne of glory and
5:37 come down and die on a cross for man
5:39 what is man
5:41 be rather interesting for us to go down
5:43 to the library and start picking books
5:45 off the shelf to find the answer to the question
5:47 question
5:50 Mr Darwin has written a book and he
5:58 and Mr Freud has written a lot of books
6:01 and he tells us that man is a frustrated child
6:03 child
6:06 Mr Marx has written a few books and he
6:08 tells us man is simply an economic Factor
6:10 Factor
6:18 but here in Psalm 8 God
6:21 surpasses anything any man would ever say
6:23 say
6:25 would you believe friends that in Psalm
6:30 8 God says what is man man is a king
6:33 did you get that
6:36 thou has crowned him with Glory and Honor
6:38 Honor
6:48 thou has given him Dominion
6:52 in Psalm 8 God is saying to you and me I
6:55 don't know what you are living like but
6:59 I want you to live like a king
7:00 and of course at this point somebody
7:02 comes along and says that's a rather interesting
7:04 interesting
7:05 because we certainly don't see man
7:07 living like a king today man is living
7:11 like a slave and that's right
7:14 man's living like a slave
7:17 instead of having all things under his
7:25 and up and down the busy streets of
7:29 Chicago and the narrow little Lanes of
7:32 Chicago people are frustrated and broken
7:38 and because life is so meaningless and
7:41 life is so empty they're sitting at bars
7:45 and they're using narcotics and they're
7:48 getting involved in all sorts of things
7:50 and God says you're not supposed to live
7:54 like that I've made you a king
7:56 now I want us to understand this morning
8:06 you and I are supposed to live like kings
8:11 and if one person here this morning says
8:13 Pastor where's me I'm not living like a
8:17 king then I'm talking to you
8:19 but I imagine most of us have to confess
8:22 that in some area of Our Lives
8:24 there's anything but Dominion
8:27 and glory and honor
8:30 now in order to understand the kingship
8:31 of man
8:34 we have to be introduced to three kings
8:38 in Psalm 8 there are three kings
8:40 and I'm going to invite these three
8:43 kings to come in this morning
8:45 these are not the three kings of Orient
8:48 are these are the three kings of Psalm 8.
8:49 8.
8:51 and I want you to listen to these three kings
8:53 kings
8:54 I want you to hear what they have to say
8:57 because if we understand what these
9:01 three kings have to say will understand
9:05 how we can live as kings we don't have
9:08 to go back to the same frustrations and
9:12 and the same defeats God knows how many
9:18 three kings and each of these Kings has
9:19 a message King number one would you
9:21 please come in and sit down
9:29 I once asked a class who was the first
9:31 king in the Bible they said Saul that's
9:33 wrong the first king in the Bible is Adam
9:34 Adam
9:37 you see Psalm 8 is based upon Genesis
9:39 chapter one let's go back to Genesis
9:45 in Genesis chapter 1 God made and
9:48 crowned the first king
9:50 verse 26.
9:54 and God said let us make man in our image
9:56 image
9:59 after our likeness
10:02 and let them have dominion over the fish
10:05 of the sea over the fowl of the air over
10:08 the cattle and over all the Earth over
10:10 every creeping thing that creepeth upon
10:14 the Earth so God created man in his own image
10:15 image
10:18 in the image of God created he him male
10:21 and female created he them and God
10:24 blessed them and God said unto them be
10:26 fruitful and multiply and replenish the
10:29 Earth fill up the Earth and subdue it
10:32 and have dominion over the fish of the
10:35 sea over the fowl of the air over every
10:38 living thing that moveth upon the Earth now
10:39 now
10:41 King Adam
10:44 says this to us today
10:51 God the father created us to be Kings
10:53 now lay hold of that
10:56 we aren't the product of evolution God
10:58 created us
11:02 we aren't animals we are created in the
11:04 image of God now it doesn't mean God
11:07 looks like me
11:09 it means that it reflected in my
11:12 personality is the personality of God
11:16 God has a mind to think with and he gave
11:19 King Adam a mind and God has a heart to
11:22 feel with and he gave King Adam a heart
11:25 and God has a will to decide with and he
11:28 gave to King Adam a will he made a
11:30 person out of him
11:34 made in the image of God
11:36 and so Adam says to us God the father
11:40 created us to be Kings created
11:42 not evolved
11:46 created in the image of God
11:49 not just an animal
11:52 created for God's glory
11:55 not for his own selfish purposes
12:01 created to be God's representative ruler
12:03 on the Earth
12:07 God took a crown as it were and he put
12:10 the crown on Adam's head and he said I'm
12:14 crowning you as my representative on the Earth
12:16 Earth
12:23 now when you and I walk down the streets
12:25 or read the newspapers or watch the
12:28 television we shake our head and say I
12:35 you mean God create created man man is
12:37 not an animal he sure acts like an animal
12:41 the fact of the matter is the birds of
12:44 the air and the and the fish of the Sea
12:46 and the beasts of the Earth are better
12:49 behaved than man is
12:52 what happened
12:53 well Adam you've got the story you
12:55 better tell it to us well the story is
12:57 over in Romans chapter 5. would you turn there
12:59 there
13:02 Romans chapter 5.
13:06 you see Adam was created by God
13:10 Adam was created in God's image
13:13 Adam was created for God's glory and
13:18 Adam was created as God's ruler
13:20 I suppose when I read that passage from
13:22 Hebrews and from Psalm 8 some of you
13:23 didn't like it
13:26 thou has made him a little lower than
13:28 the angels
13:30 they'd probably shock you if we told you
13:33 what it says in the in the Hebrew thou
13:40 the word that David writes down there is
13:46 and so I get up in the morning with the
13:49 few hairs I have all tousled on my head
13:51 and I'm tired and I look in the mirror
13:52 and I say you know
13:55 you were made a little lower than God oh
13:57 oh
14:00 what happened Romans 5 tells us what happened
14:01 happened
14:05 you see folks when God put a crown on
14:07 Adam's head he said I'm giving you Authority
14:09 Authority
14:11 but you don't have the right to rule
14:15 others unless you can rule yourself I'm
14:18 going to give you a test to see if you
14:20 can rule yourself
14:24 nobody has a right to have authority
14:27 unless he's under Authority
14:30 and God the father said I have made you
14:32 I have created you to be a king
14:36 if you're under my authority you will
14:38 reign with Glory and Honor but boy if
14:40 you're not under my authority it's going
14:41 to be trouble
14:45 and so I gave him a very simple test
14:54 well let's begin in verse 17.
14:59 for as by one man's offense that's King Adam
15:01 Adam
15:06 death reigned by one
15:10 much more they which receive abundance
15:12 of Grace and of the gift of
15:15 righteousness they shall reign in life
15:18 by one Jesus Christ
15:21 what's he saying here
15:23 he's saying King Adam what happened to
15:26 your Dominion I lost it
15:29 what happened to your crown I lost it
15:32 what happened to your glory I lost it
15:35 what happened to God's image I marred it
15:46 God the father created us to be Kings
15:48 but the first man
15:51 abdicated his throne
15:54 because he wanted to be God
15:57 Satan came along and said to Adam and to
16:00 Eve oh ye shall be as God
16:03 Eve listened to it and told Adam and
16:04 they sinned
16:08 and so the first man created to be a
16:10 king became a slave
16:13 and now today that precious little baby
16:16 born into that family is born in the
16:23 and all across this world are some three
16:26 billions of people whom God the father
16:30 created to be Kings and yet they have
16:34 inherited from the first king Adam
16:48 sad to say we're not Kings today
16:50 we're slaves
16:53 and the image of God has been marred by
16:56 sin the mind doesn't think God's
16:58 thoughts and the heart doesn't love what
17:01 God loves and the will is stubborn
17:03 against God
17:06 which leads us to the second king
17:08 thank you Adam you can leave now King
17:20 the first question in the New Testament
17:30 es chapter 5 says this is the book of
17:33 the generations of Adam and you read the
17:36 Old Testament and find out that Adam's
17:40 Generations are sinners and slaves tragedy
17:41 tragedy
17:43 then you flip over to Matthew chapter
17:46 one this is the book of the generations
17:48 of Jesus Christ
17:52 brand new king brand new family
17:55 now we turn to Hebrews chapter 2.
17:58 Hebrews chapter 2 quotes from Psalm 8 to
18:02 tell us that he's talking about Jesus
18:06 you see God the father created me to be
18:07 a king
18:10 sin made a slave out of me
18:14 God the son redeemed me to be a king
18:18 look at it now in Hebrews chapter 2.
18:20 verse 6 but one in a certain place
18:23 testified saying what is man that thou
18:25 art mindful of him or the son of man
18:27 that thou visitest him thou has made him
18:30 a little lower than the Angels thou
18:31 crownest him with Glory and Honor did
18:34 set him over the work of thy hands thou
18:36 has put all things in subjection under
18:44 for in that he put all in subjection
18:46 under him he left nothing that is not
18:48 put it under him
18:53 but now we see not yet all things put
18:56 under him man is not controlling the
18:59 beasts and the birds and the fish man
19:01 can't even control his own children [Music]

19:06 and so the writer stops and says wait a
19:08 minute is the Bible true yes the Bible
19:10 is true you've put all things under
19:12 man's feet that's what it says but we
19:14 don't see all things under man's feet
19:21 you see the second Adam came the last
19:24 Adam came I should say
19:28 the last Adam came and in his act of
19:31 obedience on the cross
19:35 undid all of the tragic damage the first
19:36 Adam had done
19:40 God the father created me to be a king
19:46 and God the son redeemed me to be a king
19:48 that's rather interesting he says here
19:51 that Jesus Christ has Dominion
19:54 it's rather interesting Dominion
19:57 he has dominion over the beasts now you don't
20:07 be interesting if one of us would try to
20:11 exercise dominion over the beasts Jesus did
20:12 did
20:15 in Mark chapter 1 when Jesus was being
20:17 tempted in the wilderness it says he was
20:19 with the wild beasts and not a one
20:21 touched him
20:24 when he rode into Jerusalem he rode on
20:26 an animal that had not yet been ridden I
20:28 wouldn't do that
20:30 he had dominion over the Beast he had
20:33 dominion over the over the fish
20:36 fishing season is about upon us now and
20:38 some of you men will be out and some of
20:39 you women will be out this summer
20:44 drowning worms and casting lures and
20:46 getting sunburned
20:48 I suggest at the end of the summer
20:50 calculate how much per pound it costs
20:52 you to get that fish
20:54 might be cheaper to go down to Fulton
20:56 Street Market and buy it
20:58 you don't have dominion over the fish
21:00 Jesus did
21:03 Peter had been fishing all night and he
21:05 caught nothing and Jesus says
21:08 cast The Net over here he caught so many
21:10 fish he had to get his Partners to help him
21:11 him
21:14 he sent Peter down to the Sea one day to
21:18 catch one fish and in that fish's mouth money
21:19 money
21:21 and Jesus just controlled the fish he
21:23 had dominion over the fish he had
21:26 dominion over the fouls
21:29 I wonder how many birds there were in
21:31 Jerusalem when when Peter denied the
21:35 Lord three times they all kept quiet
21:41 and then Jesus gave the signal and one
21:44 began to Crow when Peter had denied
21:47 him you see when Jesus was here on Earth
21:51 he exercised the Dominion that Adam had lost
21:52 lost
21:56 and so the writer says we don't see man
21:59 exercising this Dominion yet we will one
22:00 of these days
22:03 one of these days when Jesus and his
22:06 church reign in glory will exercise
22:11 Dominion but he said we see Jesus
22:14 Adam says God the father created us to
22:16 be Kings
22:20 Jesus says God the son redeemed us to be Kings
22:21 Kings
22:23 now my friend have you trusted Christ as
22:26 your savior
22:28 have you come to Jesus Christ with your
22:30 sin and your disappointment and your
22:32 failure and said I've made a mess of my life
22:33 life
22:36 but I believe you've died for me and I
22:38 believe that I can give my heart to You
22:41 O Lord and you can change me from being
22:44 a slave to being a king
22:46 John says this over in the Book of Revelation
22:47 Revelation
22:51 John wrote something like this unto him
22:54 who loves us
22:58 and freed us from our sins in his own
23:03 blood and hath made us Kings and Priests
23:06 unto God Revelation chapter 1 verses 6
23:08 and 7.
23:10 you see if you're saved today by faith
23:15 in Jesus Christ you are a king you say
23:18 how do I live like it that leads us to
23:22 the Third King go back now to Psalm 8.
23:24 we've learned that God the father
23:27 created us to be Kings
23:31 we've learned that God the son
23:34 redeemed us to be Kings
23:38 God the Holy Spirit
23:42 anointed us to be Kings when you were
23:46 saved God gave you the holy spirit of
23:51 God and when the holy spirit of God is
23:55 in control of Our Lives we are obeying
24:01 Romans 5 17. Romans 5 17 says we reign
24:06 some of our dear Bible students are
24:08 waiting for the kingdom to start
24:10 reigning can hardly wait for the
24:12 Millennium so I can Reign don't wait
24:14 start now
24:17 Romans 5 17 says that you and I as
24:21 Christians today can reign in life
24:24 through Jesus Christ how do you do this
24:27 by the power of the Holy Spirit
24:30 the holy spirit of God enables us to
24:33 Reign Over
24:36 sin Romans 6 says sin shall not have
24:37 dominion over you you shall have
24:43 the holy spirit of God enables us to
24:46 take the scepter of faith and the
24:51 promises of God and reign in life
24:52 now some of you look at me very
24:53 skeptically and you say I don't believe
24:55 it well let's take King number three
24:59 Adam was King number one God the father
25:03 created us to be Kings Jesus was King
25:06 number two God the son
25:10 redeemed us that we might be Kings David
25:12 is King number three David wrote Psalm 8.
25:13 8.
25:17 and David says God the Holy Spirit the
25:21 anointing power of God anointed us to be
25:23 Kings now go back to Psalm 8 I'm going
25:25 to give you a lesson
25:27 on the Hebrew hymn book
25:29 you see our hymnal
25:32 you've noticed as we've used it has him
25:34 Tunes to it

26:45 the musical direction is at the end of
26:47 the psalm now the tragedy is our English
26:50 translators shoved all these musical
26:52 directions from the end of the previous
26:55 Psalm to the beginning of the next Psalm
26:57 and that's not where they belong
26:58 this little statement at the beginning
27:02 of Psalm 9 to the chief musician upon
27:04 the death of the champion belongs at the
27:06 end of Psalm 8. you say what difference
27:07 does it make
27:10 well Psalm 8 was written to commemorate
27:13 the death of the champion
27:16 now who was the champion that was killed
27:19 by David Goliath
27:21 turn if you will now keep a finger in
27:24 Psalm 8 and turn back to first Samuel 17.
27:26 17.
27:28 first Samuel 17 is the description of
27:31 the slang of Goliath now you see the
27:33 preacher is sure running around Robin
27:35 Hood's Barn today you stay with me
27:38 before you walk out I want you to know
27:41 how to reign as a king
27:44 first Samuel 17. the Philistines are on
27:47 one side and the Jews are on the other
27:50 side and Goliath is in the middle verse
27:53 4 there went out a champion there's the
27:56 word out of the camp of the Philistines
27:57 named Goliath
28:00 we have his uh his Dimensions given here
28:04 and the huge uh spear that he had and so
28:07 forth and for 40 days this loudmouth
28:10 came out and shook his fists at the army
28:12 of Israel and said if you've got
28:13 somebody over there send them to fight me
28:19 now keep your place in first Samuel 17
28:22 go back to Psalm 8.
28:24 verse 2.
28:28 out of the mouth of babes and sucklings
28:30 thou Hast ordained strength there come a
28:31 little David
28:36 16 year old boy not with a spear or a
28:38 sword he comes out with a slingshot and
28:41 five stones
28:43 and Goliath looked at him and said boy
28:50 you're sending out to me some little kid
28:52 that's an insult
28:55 ah but out of the mouths of babes and
28:59 sucklings God ordained strength
29:02 because of thine enemies that thou might
29:05 as still the enemy and the Avenger for
29:08 40 days this giant shot off his mouth
29:11 accusing the people of God finally David
29:13 comes out and says I'm going to shut
29:20 well back to first Samuel 17.
29:23 verse 33 they said to David Thou Art but
29:25 a youth
29:29 look at verse 44. the Philistine says to
29:32 David come to me and I will give thy
29:36 flesh notice now unto the fowls of the
29:39 air and to the beasts of the field what
29:42 did David write in psalmate thou has
29:45 given him dominion over the fowl of the
29:51 David says to him well
29:55 I'm coming to thee verse 45 in the name
29:58 of the Lord of hosts the end of verse 46
30:01 that all the Earth may know that there's
30:03 a God in Israel oh Lord our Lord how
30:06 excellent is thy name in all the Earth
30:08 you see the point
30:12 David comes out and he faces Goliath and
30:15 he takes a stone and he throws the stone
30:19 and he stuns the giant then he goes up
30:21 and takes the giant sword and chops off
30:23 the Giant's head
30:27 then that night David slips out of camp
30:30 he's a Shepherd boy and he goes out on
30:33 the hill he looks up to the heavens
30:37 and says oh Lord our Lord how excellent
30:40 is thy name and all the Earth
30:44 here I am just a Stripling a babe a
30:46 suckling and yet you gave me strength
30:51 and I silenced the enemy and the Avenger
30:53 he looked up at the stars and said when
30:57 I consider the heavens all that's up
31:00 there who Am I who am I that you pay any
31:03 attention to me why have you visited me
31:07 ah Lord I know why I know why
31:10 you made me to be a king
31:13 and you saved me to be a king you
31:20 you see sometime before this event God
31:29 God had anointed David with power
31:32 and when nobody was watching David
31:34 killed a bear and when nobody was
31:36 watching David killed a lion he didn't
31:38 tell him about it he didn't send a news
31:39 release out to United press he just kept
31:44 you see David is saying to us God
31:48 anointed us to be Kings now look what
31:55 just take the city of Chicago who are
31:57 the important people in Chicago well
31:59 size has a lot to do with it if you're big
32:00 big
32:02 you're important
32:08 if you're strong
32:12 what did David have against a giant
32:14 well you may not have strength and you
32:16 may not have size how about status boy
32:18 if you've got status you can do anything today
32:19 today
32:22 he was the shepherd boy of a poor man
32:25 named Jesse David had everything against
32:28 him he didn't have size and didn't have
32:30 strength and didn't have status but you
32:34 know what he did have the power of the
32:37 holy spirit of God
32:39 you know we make all kinds of excuses as
32:41 to why we're failing if only I had a
32:43 better job if only I had different
32:45 friends if only I didn't have this if
32:47 only I didn't we make all kinds of
32:50 excuses to why we're failing everybody
32:57 tomorrow morning when the alarm clock
32:58 goes off some of you dear people go off
33:01 to work and you're going to face in your
33:03 office or in your school room or your
33:07 factory or someplace a giant
33:11 some loud mouth oppressor
33:19 what are you gonna do about it
33:25 most of us do what Saul and his army did
33:28 we sit there and say nothing can be done
33:32 nothing can be done and Along Comes A
33:36 little old Stripling a little David
33:39 and the secret of David's strength
33:42 is found in the first and last verses of
33:48 Psalm 8 oh Lord our Lord how excellent
33:51 is thy name in all the earth when you
33:55 and I are yielded to the lordship of the
33:59 holy spirit of God we can face the giant
34:07 someday I'd like to go through the
34:09 history of Moody Church and make a list
34:11 of all the things they said couldn't be
34:18 be interesting
34:25 my friend whenever I say can't be done
34:27 I'm not reigning in life
34:30 when I say this problem's too big for me
34:32 I'm not reigning in life I'm giving in
34:33 to Goliath
34:36 and David looks at me and says look
34:40 you were annoying to to be a king when
34:43 the spirit of God came into you that is
34:47 the spirit of kingship now go back to
34:50 that job and face that problem and get
34:52 your hands in God's hand and by faith
35:00 three kinds of people in every Church
35:02 those who
35:04 make things happen those who watch
35:05 things happen and those who don't know
35:13 you came to church this morning facing a
35:22 God the father created you to be a king
35:26 God the son redeemed you to be a king
35:30 God the Holy Spirit anointed you to be a king
35:31 king
35:35 now go on out and face that Goliath by
35:40 faith in the lordship of Jesus Christ
35:42 and when
35:46 that's how the early church did
35:47 that's how men and women down Through
35:56 oh Lord my Lord
36:00 how excellent is thy name in all the Earth
36:01 Earth
36:03 why did David defeat Goliath to the
36:05 glory of God
36:07 that for the glory of David
36:09 and so there's the secret the lordship
36:12 of God the glory of God
36:16 surrendered to his lordship allowing the
36:18 Holy Spirit
36:20 to fill us and to use us and we Face
36:23 these problems the lion the bear the
36:26 Giant and by faith we whip them
36:30 that's what Romans 5 17 calls reigning
36:31 in life
36:33 oh it's a great experience tomorrow
36:35 morning when you wake up
36:38 turn yourself over to the Lord
36:41 he's the god of creation but he's the
36:43 god of Salvation and he's the god of
