all right man you're here for your neck
yeah tell me about it um so you know
I've had kind of like issues with the
neck for a while ever since
since
um I'm trying remember how long ago it
was like probably about like four months
ago I was doing like a LP pull down and
I just pulled down and felt something
kind of like pop
in the back of my neck and it wasn't
like a heavy set it was kind of as I was
warming up um and like the weight caught
on the slide and so I had to pull harder
and it just popped and then I was like
well that was weird I did one
more and uh I was like I should let me
stop and just like stretch and see how
that feels so I I I got up and then I
went to go bend down and pick up my
phone and I couldn't bend my I couldn't
bend over I felt like my head was going
to like like fall couldn't control it
yeah okay um was it hurting while this
happened or were you more it was like a
like a n n out of 10 like on the lean
forward like any like movement like
where my head came at a different spot
so then like uh you know then I went
over and I like stretched I laid down I
like held my head as I laid down yeah
and then that it was like that for a
while uh like two days I like would just
pick up my head whenever I got out of
bed and then like anytime I laid down I
just hold my head and it kind of got a
little better and then I went and I saw
one of the pts that I worked with yeah
and he did some needling and some very
similar motions to what we did today the
like I'm assuming like some sort of like
mob yeah no manips we did a manip okay
first day cool yeah uh and and the
needles and it and it felt like a decent
amount better then I was working there
that day and so like they just said
throughout the day my my motion got a
lot worse like I started again like like
turning tighten back up um but since
then it's gotten a lot better but like
sometimes when I do like back day or or
lap pull Downs I'll just feel it and
then I haven't been able to like push my
lap pull Downs to like like a heavy
weight push like push the weight um okay
so the initial injury was four weeks ago
four months four months ago four months
ago four months ago you're pulling down
the weight got stuck meaning yeah like
there was like some extra like
resistance and I was doing a warm up and
and then I had to pull hard anded it
through felt the pop was the pain
immediate or the weird that was weird no
it just felt weird and then like I got
up I didn't think about it until like I
went to pick up my phone and I just went
to pick up my phone I was like yeah
that's where the nine out of 10 started
yeah was that consistent until you saw
your PT friends or I'd say it probably
got down to like a seven whenever I
tried to move my head we were still hot
how long between the injury and the PT
visit uh I think it was two days okay
how were those day and a half rough
pretty terrible I couldn't I wasn't
sleeping and then like anytime I would
get up I would just like pick up my head
or i' have my fiance what were you doing
that for when you're telling me you're
kind of holding your head through
movements that that made the pain less
I'm guessing holding it it was less
painful okay what why else I don't know
like I felt like if I would try either I
would wouldn't be able to control it or
the pain would spike up yeah and that's
an interesting feeling that not being
able to control it have you felt that
before is that something you've
experienced in your neck before anything
like this
before anything that you could say yeah
I get neck pain occasionally the closest
thing I would say is kind of like a like
a whip lashy okay tell me about that
like I've I've you know from soccer um I
get sometimes you go up for head or you
get your legs taken out and I just land
oh okay uh funny concussion concussion
Associated no no really just like land
on my my side I mean maybe but but uh
I've never like lost Consciousness
you're really stiff after I would say
like that like that like I can't move
kind of feeling how about that cck in
your neck you wake up and you're like a
man yeah it's kind of like a crick in
your neck but
like okay and back in soccer so it's not
like every five months I deal with this
it happened before and this is pretty
random that's what I'm hearing yeah it's
I've never had anything like that but I
if if I had to compare it to one thing
it' probably be like a little how long
until it got manageable you saw the PT
two days after you were still struggle
it sounds like by the end of the day you
were almost back to where you were or
heading back to where you were well no
so like after the treatment I probably
was like I sit like a three out of 10
was like but by the end of the day I was
probably back to about a seven but I I I
was like in the clinic helping patients
Tot so I was moving around you may not
remember the next day but if you can
kind of think about that whole month
after like are we talking man Dr B it
was day after day I got a little better
a little better a little better and now
we're kind of or or was there a rapid
Improvement and now it's just talk to me
about that it was probably like like
like a week until I felt like I could
not really think about getting out of
bed oh okay that's pretty were you
working out during that time were you
avoiding things because of this um I
mostos avoiding stuff yeah you weren't
running you weren't like I I wasn't very
comfortable I did some like light leg
days okay um you clim you climb rocks
right I do climb rocks yeah um did that
has that been going on since this has
happened uh yeah so I i' I've I got back
to climbing um probably like when I
could get out of bed okay so week or so
after yeah like a week or soim um but
like I was really careful like like I
usually when I get to the top I'll just
jump off cuz I don't really care sure
but I just climb down it's called
getting older yeah um I the impact kind
of scared me and then and then like
looking to holds yeah um throughout all
of this any light sensitivity any weird
speech changes food changes visual
changes anything like that that's ever
been like hold on is this related anything
anything
scary no I would say just the sensation
of not being able my head was scary not
being able to move it you also more than
once have said you were concerned it was
going to fall off for you concern yeah I
mean like it felt like I wouldn't be
able to control my head okay that's
that's I and I don't know what that
really that's okay but you still it
sounds like you still blame pain for
that like I'm just I'm not sure if the
Pain's going to Here Comes the Pain let
me avoid that yeah I'm not it's kind of
like I'm not sure if I just was
like you know didn't want to use the
neck right and so I was like mostly just
like kind of balancing my head totally
or or if or if like it actually was like
kind of slump in the last week or two
talk to me about how this is affecting
your life it's mostly like checking
blind spots in my car oh God get on the
road with like it doesn't hurt most of
the time okay but like you know like it
hurts there and then it hurts there
which one's
worse right
now left going to the left hurts on the
right right yeah hurts on the right
going to the right hurts on the right
but going to the left hurts more yeah
okay um other than turning in the car do
you notice this much you you're studying
for school does it affect positions
you're in does it affect studying for a
long hour at the computer how are we
doing with that I do feel like it
fatigues a little bit what like I don't
know if I'm bracing extra or like I'm
guarding in certain positions like if I
stick my head out forward it hurts um um
what's fatig feeling to you I know what
you mean but at the end of a long study
session what are you feeling in your
neck ache just like uh like this right
side okay uh just get yeah kind of gets
a little tired like tight anything in
the hands down the arm shoulder
blade uh I would say
say
maybe maybe into the shoulder blade but
I don't know I have a lot of I have a
lot of thoracic like tension so I don't
know if anything new in the four months
or any I used to be able to press this
now I can't press that much anymore
chest press shoulder press row you
haven't noticed weakness if it is it's
because you're in pain I haven't I mean
Ju Just on the lot pull down I haven't
gotten back up to like where I was just
increase can you do pull-ups um like a
wider grip pullup is
worse than like a narrow grip oh okay so
like versus here and worse meaning more
painful and hard it feels like I I'm
pulling on okay what feels good when it
down
uh when it like spikes up sounds like
you can get to a position that calms it
down yeah it's pretty neutral
stay yeah I mean just sit here uh
movement maybe like Little movements
yeah don't that don't hurt but like if I
if I keep
pushing forward or like going this way
or like jamming it yeah um have you
tried any alternative massage Cairo you
still seeing a PT no I I really only saw
him for that uh one visit and then he
treated me at the beginning of the day
and then I worked and he treated me at
the end oh okay did they treat me at the
end calm it down again you did the same
thing pretty much the same no needles uh
we just did cups and and and it was a
different PT but it was cups and and
cool can I try to recap what I've heard
four months ago you're doing a lap pull
down it kind of got stuck you yanked to
compensate you felt the twinge you
weren't too concerned until you went to
bend over and that's when things spiked
that Spike stayed for at least two days
until you went back to work you saw the
guy he calmed a way down like 97 to
three yeah you're moving moving and
building back up by the end of the day
you're maybe better than you started but
you're still back up there maybe a
little better than I started took
another week for you to really feel
comfortable resuming Nick's regular life
and maybe even longer to get back to
Nick's athletic life yeah okay the the
next two three months ago and you keep
getting a little better a little better
but you haven't loaded up lats partly
fear partly it still hurts yeah like I
can still go pretty heavy but like I I
don't feel comfortable like actually
like because usually like I'll do like a
like I like to do for like a my biggest
like I'll choose a big lift and I'll do
like sets of like five to eight um um
and and like I don't feel comfortable
like actually pushing that that's what
I'll do like sets of 10 sure that's I'll
with um when you say you're not
comfortable is that you're physically
like you you get up to the 5 to eight
and you can't do it or you're like Nick
is not comfortable or it's no it's
usually like I I'm not even thinking
about it and I go in and I'm starting to
like do my warm-up sets yeah and then
like I'll get to a weight that like I'm
like okay I'm starting to I start to
feel like okay like
the buzz the buzz or like apprehension
or I don't know but I'm not thinking
about it going into it all the time okay
so but once you're there I feel you hear
what I'm asking I'm wondering if you are
concerned or your body is telling you to
be concerned different I may be a little
concerned but I'm not I don't know I'm
not like going in like l pull Downs are
going to hurt me sometimes I'm just like
it's like 4 in the morning and I'm
working it sounds very interconnected
but that's okay um you don't do a whole
lot to relieve it besides putting it
back into into it comfortable position
no b no heating pads no tins units I try
and move but like most movements just
hurt chin tuck hurt yeah and again if
you're going to point go ahead and turn
so the camera got as enough to where
where would you point most of your oh
that low okay does it ever move you say
the muscle sometimes gets tight but do
you ever feel sharpness Pinoy Pinchy
anywhere else or is it always it's
pretty much pin point right there maybe
one higher than where you were at does
it go this way at all that's what I was
saying I like maybe but I don't know I
can't tell if that's like kind of just
yeah I I'll hear people say they feel
like something's under their shoulder
blade do you ever get that feeling where
you dig in your cane or your ball to try
to calm down something deep and
underneath there or no no okay you can
turn back around anything else I have't
ask that you feel like
telling previous big shoulder injuries
truly any concussions in soccer anything
I mean maybe I had a
concussion in football uh in high school
okay but no you were never pulled out of
a game took a month off for concussion
protocol crazy no I just didn't
remember my brother missed six weeks of
school for a concussion no it was more
like a hit you got out of
finals I just got hit and I didn't
remember the game yeah maybe a good
thing you guys a name you don't know we
we didn't win a lot so I don't got it um
no numbness tingling down the hand you
never feel any weakness um no pay when
you cough or sneeze nothing like that I
mean just if the head moves okay have
