At the start of my degree, I had no idea
how to code. By the end of my first
year, I landed an intern offer at a qu trading

2022. Everyone around seems miles ahead.
The guy next to me is some kind of
genius. One night, I'm stuck, so I ask
him for help. Who does this guy think he
is? Being smart here wasn't enough.

big. Two weeks later, I get a message
that my friend's friend just made it
into a trading firm. His grad salary
600,000. So, here's how it works. These
are hedge funds and banks. They want to
buy big, but they can't trade the normal
stock market like you and I because the
volumes are so big, it'll drive the
price around. That's where HFTs and
market makers come in. They give these
banks fixed prices for a specific volume
they want to trade. When HSDs do this
with two banks on opposite sides, they
keep the spread between making lucrative
amounts of money. I went through every
job portal. LinkedIn seek university
portal and I found it. The trading firm
discovery event 2 days. First round a
one-way interview. Why do companies even
have oneway interviews? Next, a phone
interview. I binged every online YouTube
video I could find. Practiced to sound
natural. The call comes in. 2 weeks
later, I'm at the discovery event.
Five-star hotel, meals, drinks,
everything. But when I get back home, I
realize the application I made to an
internship at Google got rejected. And
worse still, the person who sat next to
