0:03 Hi. Are you ready to practice your
0:05 English with me today for about 10
0:10 minutes or so? I hope so. Well, I'm JC
0:12 and I have written an eight sentence
0:16 text for you based on a true story and
0:18 it's about someone that I've already
0:20 mentioned in previous videos. Are you
0:23 ready to practice with me? I'll read the
0:25 text to you first and then after that
0:27 we'll do a repetition
0:31 exercise and then the last part you will
0:34 read the text to me. Are you ready?
0:35 Let's get
0:38 started. A few years ago, our musical
0:40 friend Shirley
0:43 Jackson made an important
0:45 purchase. Having just retired from
0:48 teaching and being newly settled in the
0:51 country, Shirley became obsessed with
0:54 the urge to explore North
0:59 America. Shirley found an A1 utility van
1:02 at a good price and with the help of her
1:05 handy son Jeff, they converted it into a camper.
1:07 camper.
1:10 After several months of construction,
1:14 Shirley's van Freda was ready to hit the
1:18 road. For a first road trip, Shirley and
1:20 her friend drove Freda across Canada
1:23 from Nova Scotia to Shirley's birthplace,
1:25 birthplace,
1:27 Alberta. Stopping here and there along
1:30 the way, Shirley appreciated the sense
1:34 of freedom and excitement that Freda
1:37 afforded her. Being a traveling musician
1:40 at home in Nova Scotia, Shirley has
1:42 always enjoyed discovering new places
1:45 where she and her musicians can
1:49 perform. Freda has truly become another
1:52 valuable facet of Shirley's happy, adventurous
1:54 adventurous
1:57 life. And you know, last year I had a
2:00 chance to see Freda because Shirley and
2:03 her friend Cheryl stopped at our place
2:05 and they stayed overnight. And I must
2:08 say that Shirley and her son Jeff did an
2:10 excellent job on that
2:13 van. Now the reason the name was chosen
2:17 Freda for freedom. Does it make sense? I
2:19 think so. Okay, let's go back and
2:24 practice sentence by sentence. One. A
2:26 few years ago, our musical friend
2:29 Shirley Jackson made an important
2:40 Having just retired from teaching and
2:43 being newly settled in the country,
2:46 surely became obsessed with the urge to
3:04 Repeat. Three. Shirley found an A1
3:07 utility van at a good price and with the
3:10 help of her handy son Jeff, they
3:26 Four. After several months of
3:30 construction, Shirley's van Freda was
3:44 Repeat. Five. For a first road trip,
3:48 Shirley and a friend drove Freda across
3:50 Canada from Nova Scotia to Shirley's
4:05 Repeat. Six. Stopping here and there
4:09 along the way surely appreciated the
4:11 sense of freedom and excitement that
4:25 Repeat seven.
4:28 Being a traveling musician at home in
4:31 Nova Scotia, Shirley has always enjoyed
4:34 discovering new places where she and her
4:52 Repeat eight. Freda has truly become
4:55 another valuable facet of Shirley's
5:09 Repeat. So, are you ready to read the
5:11 text for me? I'll say the number and
6:37 Eight. Well, how was that? Were you able
6:40 to read the text to me fluently? If not,
6:42 you can always go back and practice with
6:45 me again because, you know, these texts
6:48 are not that difficult, but they are at
6:51 an intermediate level. I'd say B1, B2
6:53 level. So, it's important that the
6:56 sentences flow when you're reading them
6:58 to me. Well, I'll leave you for today.
