0:03 we open the word of God to Matthew chapter
0:10 16 I have a rather long portion to
0:18 1613 to
0:21 178 as you know the chapter and verse
0:25 divisions in your Bible are
0:28 man-made and sometimes they
0:30 obscure and this is one case we're
0:31 thinking tonight about the
0:34 Transfiguration of our Lord Jesus
0:37 Christ and the story really begins in
0:41 chapter 16 of Matthew at verse
0:44 13 when Jesus came into the borders of
0:47 cesaria Philippi he asked his disciples
0:50 saying who do men say that I the son of man
0:51 man
0:54 am and they said some say that thou are
0:58 John the Baptist some Elijah and others
1:01 Jeremiah or one of the prophets
1:05 he sath unto them but who say ye that I
1:07 am and Simon Peter answered and said
1:09 Thou Art the Christ the son of the Living
1:10 Living
1:13 God and Jesus answered and said unto him
1:17 blessed art thou Simon bar Jonah for
1:19 Flesh and Blood hath not revealed it
1:22 unto thee but my father who is in
1:24 heaven and I say also unto thee that
1:28 thou art Peter and Upon This Rock I will
1:30 build my church in the gates of of Hades
1:33 shall not Prevail against it and I will
1:35 give unto thee the Keys of the Kingdom
1:39 of Heaven and whatsoever Thou shalt bind
1:41 on Earth shall be bound in heaven
1:43 whatsoever Thou shalt loose on Earth
1:44 shall be loosed in
1:47 heaven then charged he his disciples
1:50 that they should tell no man that he was
1:53 Jesus the Christ the reason for that
1:58 being in verse 17 only God can do
2:01 that from that time forth began Jesus to
2:04 show unto his disciples how he must go
2:07 unto Jerusalem and suffer many things
2:09 from the elders and chief priests and
2:11 scribes and be killed and be raised
2:14 again the third day up until then they'd
2:17 not heard that message then Peter took
2:19 him and began to rebuke him saying be it
2:21 far from thee Lord this shall not be
2:24 unto thee but he turned and said unto
2:27 Peter get thee behind me Satan Thou Art
2:31 an offense unto me for thou savest not
2:32 the things that are of God but those
2:33 that are of
2:36 men then said Jesus unto his disciples
2:39 If any man will come after me let him
2:41 deny himself and take up his cross and
2:44 follow me for whosoever will save his
2:47 life shall lose it and whosoever will
2:50 lose his life for my sake shall find it
2:52 for what is a man profited if he shall
2:54 gain the whole world and lose his own
2:57 soul or what shall a man give in
3:00 exchange for his soul for the son son of
3:02 man shall come in the glory of his
3:05 father with his angels and then he shall
3:09 reward every man according to his Works
3:11 verily I say unto you there are some
3:14 standing here who shall not taste of
3:17 death till they see the son of man
3:18 coming in his
3:21 kingdom and after six days Jesus taketh
3:25 Peter James and John his brother and
3:27 bringeth them up into a high mountain
3:30 privately and was transfig fed before
3:34 them and his face did Shine Like the Sun
3:37 and his reignment was as white as the
3:40 light and behold there appeared unto
3:43 them Moses and Elijah talking with him
3:45 now Luke tells us what they were talking
3:48 about Luke tells us and they spoke of his
3:50 his
3:52 decease his
3:56 Exodus which he should accomplish at
3:58 Jerusalem then answered Peter and said
4:02 unto Jesus Lord it is good for us to be
4:05 here if thou Wilt let us make here three
4:08 booths one for thee and one for Moses
4:11 and one for Elijah while he yet spoke
4:15 Behold a bright Cloud overshadowed them
4:17 and behold a voice out of the cloud
4:20 which said this is my beloved Son in
4:23 whom I am well pleased hear ye
4:26 him and when the disciples heard it they
4:29 fell on their face and were very much Afra
4:30 Afra
4:32 afraid and Jesus came and touched them
4:36 and said arise and be not afraid and
4:38 when they had lifted up their eyes they
4:43 saw no man except Jesus
4:45 only the word
4:49 transfigure which is used in verse two
4:51 is a word from which we get our English word
4:53 word
4:56 metamorphosis I recall with great
4:59 Delight my high school biology course
5:01 not because I learned a great deal but
5:04 because the teacher was so
5:07 comical and she taught us that a
5:10 metamorphosis is a
5:13 change the uh first there's the egg and
5:14 then there's the larvae and then there's
5:17 the pupa and then there's the adult
5:19 insect the little worm crawls into one
5:21 of these
5:24 upholstered cocoons and it emerges at
5:25 the end of the season or at the
5:28 beginning of the Season as a butterfly
5:30 or as a MTH
5:33 it's a change on the outside that comes
5:35 from the inside that's the important
5:37 thing there are two different Greek
5:39 words for change for
5:41 transfigure one means to masquerade
5:43 that's the change on the outside that
5:46 comes from the outside you put on makeup
5:48 and a wig and different clothes and your
5:50 masquerading you've changed but you
5:51 haven't changed from the inside this
5:54 word transfigure means a change on the
5:57 outside that comes from the inside and
5:59 the central fact of the Transfiguration
6:03 ation is the glory that's the whole
6:05 thing Glory as our lord Jesus stood
6:09 there on the mountain his inner Glory
6:11 that had been veiled came shining
6:13 through his body and shining through his
6:17 reignment and shining through his face
6:19 he was not reflecting Glory the Angels
6:22 weren't turning on spotlights he wasn't
6:25 reflecting Glory Moses did that when
6:26 Moses came down from the mountain he
6:28 picked up some of the glory and so he
6:31 reflected did it this was not reflection
6:34 this was radiation our Lord was
6:36 radiating out his glory which had been
6:40 veiled in his Incarnation when he came to
6:41 to
6:44 Earth there's no real glory on Earth
6:45 apart from
6:48 God all flesh is as grass and the glory
6:51 of man is as the flower of the
6:54 grass it's fading away it's here tonight
6:56 gone tomorrow the only True Glory is the
6:57 glory of
7:00 God now for us to to understand the
7:02 Transfiguration and how we are a part of
7:03 it I think the best thing to do is to
7:06 call the witnesses the best thing for us
7:08 to do tonight would be to look at the
7:10 Transfiguration Through The Eyes of the
7:13 people who were involved in other words
7:15 we're going to find here at least five
7:18 different viewpoints on the on the
7:20 Transfiguration years later when John
7:22 wrote his gospel he remembered something
7:23 about the
7:26 Transfiguration years later when Peter
7:28 wrote his letters the Holy Spirit
7:31 reminded him about the
7:33 Transfiguration uh James had something
7:35 to do with the Transfiguration though he
7:37 wrote nothing we think we know what it
7:41 meant to him and Moses and Elijah had
7:42 something to do with it and so did Jesus
7:45 and so do you and so we'll take these
7:47 five different viewpoints tonight and
7:50 discover what the glory was really like
7:54 let's begin with John over in John 1 and
7:58 verse 14 we have a bit of a remembrance
8:00 that the Holy Spirit gave gave to the go
8:03 to the gospel writer John
8:06 1:14 and the word Jesus Christ was made
8:09 flesh and tabernacled among
8:12 us and we beheld his
8:16 glory the glory as of the only begotten
8:19 of the father full of grace and
8:22 truth when John remembered the
8:25 Transfiguration he remembered the glory
8:26 of the
8:30 son s o n and that's what he writes
8:33 about in his gospel now it goes all the
8:36 way back to Peter's confession of Faith
8:39 the Lord Jesus Christ took his disciples
8:42 into Gentile territory he said what are
8:45 people saying about me now if I asked
8:47 you that question you'd say you're
8:49 terribly arrogant and proud and proud
8:52 and you'd be right Jesus wasn't taking a
8:55 survey to see how popular he was he
8:56 wanted to see whether or not the word
8:59 was getting into people's hearts and
9:01 they were confused the multitude said
9:03 well he's John the Baptist nobody could
9:05 be more opposite John the
9:07 Baptist well he's Jeremiah well he was a
9:09 great deal like Jeremiah he wept he was
9:12 burdened over the city Elijah one of the
9:15 prophets whom do you say that I
9:18 am and Peter enlightened by God the
9:21 father and led by God the spirit says
9:23 you are the Christ of
9:26 God now it took a great deal of faith
9:28 for Peter to say that other people had
9:31 performed Mir Miracles other people had
9:34 preached the truth of God our lord Jesus
9:37 didn't look like he was different from
9:39 anybody else religious pictures have our
9:41 Lord walking around with a halo over his
9:44 head he didn't have a halo over his head
9:46 there weren't Angels peing over his
9:48 shoulder he looked like any other man in
9:51 fact jeremi Isaiah Isaiah the prophet
9:53 says there was no Beauty about him that
9:56 we should desire him he looked like
9:58 anybody else and yet when Peter said
10:00 Thou Art the C
10:01 the son of the Living God he was
10:04 enlightened by God the Father God and
10:06 His grace taught him this but Peter
10:07 hadn't seen
10:11 that he saw only a Jewish man who was a
10:13 teacher and a miracle worker it was a
10:15 tremendous step of faith for Peter to
10:16 make that
10:20 testimony none of us has ever seen Jesus
10:22 Christ Peter himself writes and says
10:25 whom having not seen ye love you've
10:27 never seen the Lord Jesus and yet you
10:32 believe on him him now Peter gave this
10:34 testimony first there was the testimony
10:37 of faith and then the Lord honored his
10:41 faith by revealing Jesus as the Son of
10:44 God first Peter said Thou Art the Christ
10:46 the son of the Living God and then a
10:48 week or so later the Lord takes him up
10:50 on the mountain and he reveals that he
10:53 is the Son of God it was a confirmation
10:56 of Peter's Faith now of course Peter was
10:58 speaking for James and John and
11:02 everybody except J Judas Judas was not a
11:05 Believer and so when John saw the Lord Jesus
11:07 Jesus
11:10 transfigured the indelible picture on
11:13 his heart was the
11:16 glory of God's son and that's what he
11:21 writes about in his gospel some um 42
11:24 times in the Gospel of John you find the
11:28 word Glory or
11:31 glorified in in fact one chapter it's
11:33 our Lord's High Priestly prayer John chap
11:34 chap
11:38 17 eight times our Lord talks about his
11:40 glory quickly look at it with
11:44 me John 17 these words spoke Jesus and
11:47 lifted up his eyes to heaven and said
11:52 father the hour is come glorify thy son
11:56 that thy son Also may glorify thee verse
11:59 four I have glorified thee on the the
12:03 Earth verse 5 and now oh Father glorify
12:07 thou me with thine own self with the
12:10 glory which I had with thee before the
12:13 world was John is saying that when Jesus
12:17 Christ came to this earth he left Glory
12:19 now he brought Glory with
12:23 him the glory was in the Tabernacle of his
12:24 his
12:29 body but he left that Majestic glory and
12:31 and while he was walking here on this
12:33 Earth only
12:39 once prior to his resurrection only once
12:42 did he ever permit That Glory to come
12:45 through the amazing thing is in verse 10
12:50 Jesus dares to say about his disciples I
12:53 am glorified in them oh I hope that's
12:56 true in our lives and in verse 22 he
13:01 says and the glory which thou gavest me
13:05 I have given them not I will give them I
13:07 have given them that's why Paul can
13:11 write in Romans 8 whom he justified them
13:14 he also
13:16 glorified I know it's hard to believe as
13:18 you sit there looking at me but would
13:20 you dare to believe the word of God that
13:24 I have already received the glory and I
13:27 look at you and you if you're saved have
13:29 already received the glory he's taken
13:31 the Tabernacle of your body and turned
13:34 it into God's Temple and put the glory
13:37 down inside and he dares to say I'm
13:40 glorified in them my we stumble and we
13:43 fall and we fail and yet he says I'm
13:47 glorified in them and we share his glory verse
13:47 verse
13:51 24 father I will that they also whom
13:54 thou Hast given me be with me where I am
13:58 that they may behold my glory not only
14:01 do we POS possess his glory but someday
14:03 we're going to see and share in that
14:06 Glory that's what the Transfiguration
14:12 John that's encouraging to
14:16 me this world's not full of much Glory
14:17 you and I as Christians don't see a
14:20 great deal of Glory if you take the
14:22 letter L out of it you're closer to
14:24 where things are today
14:27 today
14:31 gory Jesus describes civilization as a
14:33 corpse that's
14:37 rotting the Eagles are gathered together
14:42 to Gorge themselves on the rotten body of
14:43 of
14:46 civilization but oh for those of us who
14:48 are saved there is
14:51 Glory which means we have a blessed hope
14:53 of seeing his glory a blessed
14:56 responsibility of sharing his glory and
15:00 glorifying him
15:03 to Peter the Transfiguration meant not
15:06 just the glory of the son but with Peter
15:08 it was the glory of the
15:12 scriptures Peter did what he often did
15:14 he opened his mouth to change feet he
15:16 had he always had something to do you
15:20 ever notice that Peter was never at a
15:24 loss for some plan now Peter and James
15:26 and John were sleeping when this Bible
15:28 Conference was going on can you imagine
15:30 going to a Bible Conference where the
15:34 speakers were Jesus Moses and
15:36 Elijah and they're discussing the
15:38 greatest Topic in all the world his
15:42 death on the cross and you go to sleep
15:44 and when he woke up he saw Moses and
15:47 Elijah and Jesus and glory and he felt
15:49 he had to say something he'd been better
15:56 nothing and he said let's make three
15:59 booze one for Moses and one for you and
16:02 one for Elijah and while he was
16:05 speaking he was
16:07 interrupted this is my beloved Son in
16:11 whom I'm well pleased hear ye
16:14 ye
16:17 him Peter we don't want to come to hear
16:20 you you listen to
16:23 him by the way three times in Peter's
16:26 Ministry he was
16:28 interrupted here he was interrupted by
16:29 God the Father
16:32 father at the end of this chapter he was
16:34 interrupted by God the
16:36 son the tax collector said to Peter
16:38 doesn't your master pay taxes yes he
16:40 does and Peter was walking in and he
16:42 opens his mouth to make a
16:44 suggestion and Jesus anticipates him and
16:47 says Peter go down and catch a fish
16:49 that'll take care of the taxes he was
16:51 interrupted by God the son in Acts
16:53 chapter 10 Peter was preaching in the
16:55 household of Cornelius and just revving
16:58 up the motors for a nice long sermon and
17:00 the Holy Spirit interrupted
17:02 him Peter got to that point where he
17:04 says whosoever believeth on him shall
17:06 receive everlasting life and they
17:09 believed Peter didn't even have a chance
17:12 for him to sing just as I
17:15 am the holy spirit of God interrupted
17:17 Peter and the household of Cornelius got
17:20 saved and the thing Peter remembered
17:22 about the Transfiguration was the glory
17:25 of the scriptures hear
17:28 him he writes about this over in second Peter
17:29 Peter
17:33 chapter 1 beginning at verse
17:37 12 wherefore I will not be negligent to
17:39 put you always in remembrance of these
17:41 things though you know them and are
17:44 established in the present truth yeah I
17:46 think it fitting as long as I'm in this
17:49 Tabernacle to stir you up and that Greek
17:51 verb there means to arouse you from
17:52 sleep you're a good one to tell us that
17:55 Peter to stir you up by putting you in
17:57 remembrance knowing that shortly I must
17:59 put off this my
18:02 Tabernacle even as our Lord Jesus Christ
18:04 has shown me moreover I will endeavor
18:08 that ye may be able after my
18:10 decease same word that's used on the
18:12 Mount of transfiguration they spoke of
18:16 his decease his Exodus after my decease
18:18 to have these things always in
18:20 remembrance for we have not followed
18:23 cunningly devised fables when we made
18:25 known unto you the power and coming of
18:28 our Lord Jesus Christ but were IE
18:31 Witness of his majesty for he received
18:35 from God the Father honor and Glory when
18:38 there came such a voice to him from the
18:43 excellent Glory this is my beloved Son
18:46 in whom I am well pleased and this voice
18:49 which came from heaven we heard when we
18:52 were with him in the Holy Mount now if
18:53 you've had an experience like that what
18:55 more could you want but Peter goes on to
19:06 we have also a more sure word of
19:09 Prophecy unto which ye do well that you
19:11 take heed as unto a light that shineth
19:14 in a dark place that's dark plac is the
19:16 world and that word dark is squalid
19:20 murky like a swamp until the day Dawn
19:22 and the day star arise in your hearts
19:25 knowing this first that no Prophecy of
19:27 the scripture is of any private
19:30 interpretation for the prophecy came not
19:33 at any time by the will of man but holy
19:36 men of God spoke as they were moved by
19:38 the Holy Ghost and then he goes on to
19:41 warn in Chapter 2 about false
19:43 teachers what was it that impressed
19:50 scriptures you see
19:54 um after Peter had given his testimony of
19:55 of
19:59 Faith Jesus began to teach them a new
20:01 lesson that he'd never taught them
20:03 before he said all right men you believe
20:06 I'm the Christ of God yes I'm going to
20:09 Jerusalem to suffer and die and again
20:11 Peter had a suggestion Peter said oh
20:14 pity yourself Lord far be it from you
20:17 that that's not in the Bible I can't
20:19 even find that in the skull field notes
20:21 anywhere and the Lord Jesus said you get
20:24 behind me Satan adversary you're not
20:26 thinking like God you're thinking like a
20:28 man you see Peter couldn't understand
20:30 understand why he wasn't talking about
20:32 Glory Glory
20:34 Glory back in the Old Testament the
20:37 Messiah would establish a kingdom of
20:40 Glory Glory and now he's talking about
20:42 suffering suffering by the way you read
20:44 first and second Peter you'll find that
20:47 one theme runs through those two CH two
20:49 books suffering and Glory suffering and
20:52 Glory suffering and
20:55 Glory the glory of the scriptures and
20:57 our Lord says
20:59 Peter I want you to know there is going
21:01 to be a kingdom someday I haven't
21:03 changed my plan he takes him up in the
21:07 mountain and he's glorified and here's
21:12 Moses the law here's Elijah the prophets
21:15 here's Jesus who fulfills the law and
21:16 the prophets Peter don't you put them
21:19 all on the same level a booth for Moses
21:22 Elijah and Jesus they aren't on the same
21:28 level Jesus only he's the preeminent one
21:30 Peter my scriptures are going to be
21:34 fulfilled one day I will reign on Earth
21:38 in glory one day Israel shall reign with
21:41 me Peter and James and John represented
21:43 the church up there the church will
21:48 reign with me Moses died and went to
21:52 heaven Elijah was raptured and went to
21:54 heaven and when that kingdom is
21:55 established there will be those who
21:57 entered into Heaven by death there will
22:00 be those who were
22:02 raptured what Joy what Delight should we
22:07 dying Peter came away from the
22:11 Transfiguration remembering three words
22:16 hear ye him and so Peter says look I had
22:18 a vision you never had that Vision but
22:21 you don't need it you don't need it I
22:23 saw him in glory you didn't do that but
22:25 you don't need it you've got the
22:28 scriptures and this book this object
22:32 itive revelation of Truth is far greater
22:34 than any Vision you might have you
22:36 forget Visions you can twist Visions you
22:39 can misinterpret Visions this book never
22:42 changes and Peter said I thank God for
22:44 the glory of the scriptures that point
22:47 to Jesus Christ we have a sure word of
22:51 Prophecy there will be a kingdom
22:53 someday I confess to you there sometimes
22:57 I take detours in the city of
22:59 Chicago sometimes you have to but
23:01 sometimes I take detours there's certain
23:06 parts of the city I don't want to
23:09 see now maybe I'm
23:12 selfish maybe I'm blind maybe I'm not
23:14 even acting like a Christian but there's
23:16 some places in the city of Chicago that
23:19 just get to
23:22 me I thank God the day is going to come
23:24 when our Lord Jesus Christ is going to
23:25 reign in
23:29 glory there will be no more cancer Wards
23:30 in our hospitals because there'll be no more
23:35 hospitals a friend of mine wrote me
23:37 recently and said they're about to
23:39 establish a policy where I'm living of
23:41 having funerals on
23:48 Chicago thank God the day is going to
23:51 come there won't be any funerals or
23:53 graveyards or
23:56 Undertakers or emergency
23:58 squads there won't be any crime or
24:00 policemen or
24:04 criminals Jesus shall reign where a the
24:08 son doth his successive Journeys run and
24:10 the kingdoms of this world will become
24:12 the kingdom of our Lord and of his
24:15 Christ and he shall reign and it'll be
24:17 in glory how do I know the scriptures
24:19 tell me I'm standing with Peter the
24:21 glory of the
24:23 scriptures how about James quickly let's
24:27 listen to him we have no writings from
24:29 James we have no record of any writings
24:32 of his in the Bible there's one thing we
24:34 know about James the first of the
24:41 die over in Acts CH 12 Herod arrests
24:43 James and he beheads him and then he
24:45 arrests Peter and he's going to keep
24:47 Peter in prison and Peter's released
24:50 James was the first of the Apostles to
24:55 die now gather your little gray cells
24:57 together in your mind and follow closely
25:01 three times in my Lord's Ministry he
25:05 took Peter and James and John by
25:08 themselves one was the
25:10 Transfiguration one was in the household
25:13 of gyrus gyrus his daughter died and the
25:15 Lord threw everybody out except Mother
25:18 and Daddy and Peter and James and John
25:20 and they went into that little bedroom
25:21 and Jesus raised that little girl from
25:23 the dead the third time was the Garden of
25:24 of
25:26 Gethsemane when our Lord was going to
25:30 pray and face the cross and he asked
25:33 Peter and James and John to come and
25:36 pray with him and again they went to
25:38 sleep why these
25:40 three it's interesting if you want to
25:42 remember these three remember
25:45 Philippians 3:10 that I may know him
25:46 that's the
25:49 Transfiguration the power of his
25:53 resurrection gyrus The Fellowship of his
25:56 sufferings Gethsemane but you see each
26:00 of these events has one thing in common
26:02 common
26:07 death death you see James remembers the
26:11 glory of
26:14 suffering now listen to it our Lord
26:17 takes them up in the mountain what's he
26:19 discussing with Moses and Elijah what
26:21 would you discuss with Moses and
26:24 Elijah I'd probably discuss some way to
26:27 avoid death Elijah you never died how'd
26:29 you do it
26:31 our Lord discusses with them his decease
26:34 his Exodus that's going to take place in
26:37 Jerusalem Luke uses the word
26:41 accomplish they're discussing suffering
26:42 they're disc discovering this discussing
26:51 suffering a few years later when James was
26:52 was
26:56 arrested put in prison and the guard
26:59 said yeah you're you're going to die
27:06 die and James
27:09 remembered on the Mount of
27:12 transfiguration Jesus was
27:16 glorified as he discussed suffering and
27:21 death in the household of gyrus Jesus
27:25 was Victorious over death in The Garden
27:35 death that's why we Christians aren't
27:37 afraid of suffering and
27:40 death because we see in suffering and
27:42 death there's
27:45 glory for I reckon that the sufferings
27:48 of this present time are not worthy to
27:52 be compared with the glory that shall be
27:54 revealed in
27:57 us for though the outward man is perishing
27:58 perishing
28:01 the inward man is being renewed day by
28:04 day as we look not at the things that
28:06 are seen for the things that are seen
28:08 are temporal the things that are not
28:16 Eternal on the Mount of transfiguration
28:17 he was
28:21 glorified in suffering and death we
28:22 aren't afraid of death because he's
28:28 Victorious over death little girl arise
28:30 when they LED James out and put his head
28:32 on the Block and chopped off his head he
28:36 wasn't afraid to die for he knew that
28:39 death had no Sting the grave had no
28:42 Victory when you know Jesus
28:45 Christ in the Garden of Gethsemane James
28:48 learned that um our Lord was surrendered
28:51 to death oh father if it be thy will let
28:54 this cup pass from me nevertheless not
28:58 my will but thine be done
29:00 Peter tried to defend him and Jesus said
29:02 the cup that my father has given me
29:05 shall I not drink it and he yields
29:07 himself to the crowd that's what James
29:11 did that's what you and I have to do the
29:15 glory of suffering we must hurry Moses and
29:16 and
29:20 Elijah the glory of
29:23 Salvation you know Moses and Elijah and
29:26 Jesus had a great deal in common all
29:28 three are identified with mountains
29:31 Mount Si Mount
29:34 Carmel Mount
29:37 Calvary all three are identified with
29:41 refusals Moses refused the riches of
29:45 Egypt Elijah refused to worship bail and
29:47 bow down to the
29:51 queen Jesus refused the offer of the
29:53 kingdoms of this
29:56 world all three are identified with our faith
29:58 faith
30:01 Moses is the one who helped to found the
30:04 faith he gives us the law Elijah
30:07 protected the faith as a prophet he
30:09 defended the truth of God's word our
30:12 lord Jesus fulfilled it he's the one
30:14 about whom the law and the prophets
30:17 wrote all three of them had rather
30:20 unique endings to their lives Moses had
30:21 a secret
30:24 burial nobody knows to this day where
30:26 Moses was
30:29 buried Elijah never did die he was
30:31 raptured to Heaven he wanted to die God
30:33 said no I've got a chariot ride planned
30:36 for you took him up to heaven our lord
30:39 Jesus died and was buried and arose
30:41 again and ascended back to
30:43 heaven but the one thing they all have
30:46 in common more than anything else is all
30:48 three of them were involved in an exodus
30:51 that's the word that's used they spoke
30:54 of his Exodus which he should accomplish
30:58 at Jerusalem Moses The Exodus of Israel
31:03 from Egypt Elijah The Exodus of Israel
31:06 from idolatry Jesus Christ The Exodus of
31:09 sinners from the kingdom of
31:13 Satan for he has delivered us from the
31:16 kingdom of darkness he's translated us
31:19 into the kingdom of his dear
31:22 son and there they were Moses the
31:25 prophets Elijah the law Elijah the
31:28 prophets Jesus the full fulfillment of
31:30 the law and the prophets they were
31:33 discussing the Exodus that he was going
31:36 to accomplish The Exodus from Egypt was
31:40 accomplished by Lambs dying The Exodus
31:42 from sin is accomplished by God's lamb
31:45 dying they applied the blood to the
31:48 doorpost of their homes Jesus blood is
31:51 applied to our hearts but in both cases
31:55 salvation by sacrifice through
31:57 faith maybe somebody here tonight is
32:00 never had that Exodus you're still in
32:03 the bondage of sin oh I say to you Moses
32:06 and Elijah remember the Transfiguration
32:14 Salvation that's kind of a picture of Heaven
32:16 Heaven
32:19 here and the beautiful thing is when we
32:20 see the Lord Jesus we're going to be like
32:21 like
32:27 him you see Heaven is uh the glory Within
32:28 Within
32:31 revealed without we're all going to be
32:34 transfigured Heaven's a place of Glory
32:37 no Darkness hell is a place of darkness
32:40 no glory the glory of Heaven is the
32:42 glory of Jesus Christ and he's given
32:43 that glory to us and we're going to
32:46 share it the darkness of hell is the
32:48 darkness of sin and
32:51 Satan when The Sinner dies and goes to
32:53 hell the darkness on the inside is
32:56 revealed on the outside and it makes
33:02 no need for anyone to go to the darkness
33:04 of hell when you can trust Christ and
33:10 exodus there's a fifth Viewpoint
33:12 here to Jesus Christ what did the transfiguration
33:15 transfiguration
33:19 mean oh do I even dare talk about our
33:22 Lord's experience I doubt that there's
33:25 language or thought or
33:28 concept profound enough to disc
33:31 it we can wait in the water for a minute
33:34 or two to Jesus Christ it meant the
33:40 surrender it was sort of a pre Calvary
33:43 encouragement to him he had just said to
33:45 his disciples I'm going to Jerusalem to
33:47 suffer and
33:51 die and the father says to him I'm well
33:52 pleased with
33:55 you the road that's coming up is rough
33:57 they're going to reject you and
34:00 persecute you and beat you and spit on
34:03 you and humiliate you and crucify you
34:05 but my son just to give you that little
34:08 bit of encouragement now remember these
34:10 were the days of his
34:12 flesh these were the days when he was in
34:15 a human
34:17 body just to give you that bit of
34:20 encouragement my son here's some of the
34:23 glory and he permitted the glory to
34:29 shine through the person of Jesus Christ
34:30 the glory of
34:32 surrender this is what our Lord meant
34:35 when he said to the disciples when Peter
34:37 rebuked him if you're going to come
34:40 after me you better deny
34:43 yourself and take up your cross daily
34:46 crucifixion and follow me where to a
34:49 cross you try to save your life Peter
34:51 you'll lose it but if you lose your life
34:53 for my sake and the gospels you're going
34:56 to save it Peter the glory is not found
34:58 in pampering yourself it's found in
35:00 surrendering yourself I'll prove it to
35:03 you let's go up on the
35:05 mountain and there on the mount when our
35:08 lord Jesus was yielded to the Father the
35:11 glory came through the glory of
35:13 surrender now someone says does that
35:15 make any difference to you and me yes it
35:17 does wouldn't you like to be a person
35:25 face when uh Steven was being
35:29 stoned his face as they beheld him in
35:31 witness was as the face of an Angel
35:37 radiation would you like to have the
35:39 kind of a face that people look at and
35:41 say there's something different about
35:44 him about her there's a glow there
35:46 There's Something Heavenly about that
35:48 person's face his face was shining and
35:51 his garments were shining in the Bible
35:53 garments are a picture of our habits
35:55 Paul says take off the old clothes of
35:59 sin put on the new clothes of of Grace
36:00 wouldn't you love for your garments to
36:03 be shining in glory your
36:06 habits the cloud was even
36:08 shining clouds come to our lives
36:11 everybody has clouds but thank God when
36:13 you're on the Mount of transfiguration
36:15 the cloud is shining and the voice comes
36:16 through the
36:18 cloud I've been through
36:21 clouds when they first came they were so
36:24 dark and I saw a storm coming and
36:29 then the cloud didn't have a silver line
36:32 the cloud became glory and from that
36:35 cloud God spoke wouldn't we like to have
36:37 that kind of an experience that Jesus
36:39 had you say well it's impossible no it
36:42 isn't this word transfigured is used in
36:44 two other references in the New
36:46 Testament if you'll mark
36:49 them and remember them and practice them
36:51 I think they may help you one of them is
36:54 very familiar it's Romans 121
36:57 and2 how do we have a Transfiguration
37:01 experience today is it
37:03 possible you say I'm not very close to
37:04 any mountains should I go up on the
37:06 Hancock Building you don't have to go up
37:07 in the Hancock building right where you
37:11 are right where you are you can have a
37:13 Transfiguration experience and
37:20 morning after Mr Shaw gave his word of
37:22 testimony this
37:26 morning in the visitor's
37:29 reception a list listener came and said
37:32 God spoke to my heart and while I was
37:35 sitting there while I was standing there
37:38 I surrendered myself to Jesus Christ you
37:41 see it can happen right where you
37:44 are I beseech you therefore Brethren by
37:46 the mercies of God that you present your
37:49 bod a Living Sacrifice wholly acceptable
37:51 unto God which is your reasonable
37:54 service and be not conformed to this
37:57 world but be ye transfigured that's the word
37:58 word
38:00 metamorphosis be ye transfigured how by
38:03 the renewing of your mind that you may
38:05 prove what is that good and acceptable
38:08 and perfect will of God as we give to
38:11 God body and mind and will and as we let
38:14 the word of God work in our minds we're
38:17 transfigured as he thinketh so he is as
38:19 the Lord changes our minds he changes Our
38:21 Our
38:23 Lives doesn't stop there though go over
38:28 to 2 Corinthians chapter 3
38:32 2 Corinthians CH 3: 18 here's the second
38:36 occasion for this word
38:40 transfigured 2 Corinthians 3:18 but we
38:45 all with unveiled face beholding as in a
38:49 mirror the glory of the Lord are being
38:52 transfigured into the same image what
38:54 image the glory of the Lord from glory
38:57 to glory even as by the spirit of the
38:59 Lord let me put it into a simple
39:02 sentence for you when the child of God
39:06 looks into the word of God and sees the
39:10 Son of God he is transfigured by the
39:13 spirit of God into the glory of
39:16 God you want a Transfiguration
39:18 experience just spend time every day
39:20 looking into the mirror of the word of
39:21 God you know what'll
39:24 happened when Moses came down from the
39:26 mountain he didn't know his face was
39:33 him most Christians who are walking
39:35 close to God don't know their faces are
39:37 shining in fact many of them have the
39:39 idea they're not really walking with the
39:41 Lord as they
39:44 should 2 Corinthians 3:18 simply says
39:46 when I take time every day to
39:48 worship just to get into the presence of
39:51 the Lord in the
39:54 word the spirit of God takes the word of
39:55 God and
39:58 transfigures my mind in my inner
40:03 man and you go from glory to glory from
40:05 glory to glory until one day you'll take
40:09 that step into the most excellent
40:11 glory and your Transfiguration
40:14 experience will be complete we're too
40:18 busy for this though we'd rather have
40:21 Evangelical makeup than Radiance well
40:23 there are ways you can do it you can get
40:25 your little Evangelical cosmetic kits
40:27 and make yourself up to look like a
40:29 Saint it can be
40:32 done but after a while it gets pretty
40:34 cheap and when you get caught in a
40:36 rainstorm it starts to
40:38 run and people can see it and they say
40:41 uhuh that's not the real
40:45 thing you can wear a mask but that's not
40:47 Transfiguration no what our Lord is
40:50 saying is this just as I surrendered to
40:53 the father and the glory came through so
40:56 if you and I just yield to him spend
40:57 time in the word
41:01 let the spirit of God work in our lives
41:03 that Glory starts to shine
41:07 through we go from glory to
41:09 glory yes you can have a Transfiguration
41:12 experience in your kitchen the kitchen
41:15 can be transfigured in God's glory can
41:18 move in the cab of your truck your
41:23 school room a hospital room yes even a
41:27 graveyard the glory can move in when
41:33 we've yielded to him the glory of
41:35 surrender many times Christians have the
41:38 idea we either have to die or wait for
41:40 the Rapture before we can have the glory
41:42 please don't be like
41:45 that don't be like that the glory can come
41:46 come
41:50 now yes it is only Glory by and by but
41:53 there's Glory here and
41:56 now the Transfiguration do you come
41:59 apart with the Lord Jesus and see Jesus
42:02 only do you listen to his
42:06 word it says while he was praying he was
42:09 transfigured do we pray that seems to be
42:11 the formula come
42:17 apart get into the word pray
42:20 surrender and God will transfigure
42:22 you and you'll not have to worry about
42:26 spots and blemishes and warts and things
42:28 because the glory of God will just change
42:30 change
42:37 glory well we have the glory of the son
42:38 Let's worship
42:42 him we have the glory of the scriptures
42:45 let's feed on it and depend upon
42:49 it we have the glory of suffering let's
42:50 not fight it let's
42:54 yield we have the glory of Salvation how
42:57 wonderful that we have had that Exodus right
42:59 right
43:07 surrender gracious
43:10 father so often our lives are ordinary
43:14 and sometimes even less than
43:16 ordinary we want our lives to be touched with
43:17 with
43:20 Glory we want that Christ shall be
43:23 magnified in our lives in
43:26 glory help us in our daily devotional
43:28 life to to see Jesus
43:32 only and Oh Holy Spirit by the word transfigure
43:33 transfigure
43:37 us help us to share the glory and to
43:39 show the
43:44 glory make us different for jesus'
