0:02 Hello everyone. My name is Dylan and
0:05 welcome to another modern RP British
0:08 English listening exercise. So here I'll
0:10 be rambling it to you for about 20
0:12 minutes or so at a very natural pace
0:14 which in the UK does tend to be quite
0:16 fast. And I just want you to see how
0:18 much of it you can understand. So where
0:19 are we then? Well, this week we are
0:23 actually in Brazil. Yeah, we are all the
0:25 way in Brazil. More specifically, we are
0:28 in a place called Florianopoulos. I hope
0:30 that's how you say it. And as you can
0:31 tell from the footage, this place is
0:34 just heavenly. We're on our way to the
0:35 beach right now. So, I was on holiday
0:38 here for a week and well, I've actually
0:39 only just returned. I got back into the
0:43 UK about 2 days ago, and well, as you
0:45 might have guessed, the weather is
0:48 slightly different here. Yeah. But in
0:49 this video, I'm just going to be giving
0:51 you a blowby-blow account of what I
0:53 actually did during my holiday. And I
0:55 will be including lots of photos as
0:56 well. So, it's going to be a very
0:58 aesthetic video. Now, just so you know,
1:00 the full transcript from today's episode
1:02 will be included in the top comment.
1:04 It's completely free, and it means that
1:06 you can read along with me, which will
1:08 make the listening a bit easier. Right,
1:10 then. So, I arrived on Friday the 12th
1:12 of December at about 400 p.m. And this
1:14 was my first impression. Now, it looks
1:16 beautiful, don't get me wrong, but to be
1:18 honest, I was slightly concerned because
1:21 it was a bit cloudy, but I mean, as you
1:22 can tell from the footage, it did turn
1:24 out to be a very sunny week in the end.
1:27 So, after checking into my Airbnb on the
1:30 first day of this long awaited holiday,
1:32 what did I do? Well, I mean, firstly, I
1:34 cracked into this gift basket thing with
1:36 great pleasure because for some reason,
1:38 don't ask me why, but for some reason, I
1:40 am just kind of addicted to Coke Zero
1:42 now. I I don't know why. I've never
1:44 really been a big Coke person. I always
1:46 thought it was quite overrated. I'd
1:48 usually prefer a Fanta or something like
1:50 that. But as soon as I arrived into
1:52 South America about 3 months ago, out of
1:56 nowhere, I just really got into Coke
1:58 Zero. So yeah, it's a weird one. Anyway,
2:00 after consuming all of that, yeah, a
2:04 really healthy lunch, I know. I
2:06 sat at my desk for about 3 hours and
2:08 just worked. I had to. I didn't want to,
2:10 but I had to. I had to finish the full
2:12 guide to Christmas video that I posted a
2:14 couple of weeks ago because I mean, it
2:15 was going live the next day. But after
2:17 that, I left my flat and went to the
2:19 first restaurant I could find because I
2:21 was absolutely starving. And this is
2:23 what I had. Yeah, sushi. So, as
2:25 mentioned in South America, I had a lot
2:28 of Coke, zero, and even more sushi. I
2:30 mean, it's so nice here, though. But
2:31 who' have thought? Who'd have thought
2:33 that Argentina and Brazil would be home
2:36 to some of the best sushi in the world.
2:38 Anyway, after that, I went on a quick
2:39 midnight stroll to the beach, took some
2:41 selfies for the memories, and headed
2:44 home for a good night's rest. Right, day
2:46 number two, a sunny Saturday. Very
2:48 exciting, I know. So, I woke up, whipped
2:50 up a quick thumbnail for the Xmas video,
2:53 posted it, and just like that, I was
2:55 free. I didn't have to do any more work
2:57 for the rest of my holiday, which is why
3:00 there was no upload last Friday. Sorry
3:02 about that. So, at about 11:00 a.m., I
3:04 headed out to this local cafe and
3:07 ordered this delicious breakfast. Orange
3:09 juice, coffee, this banana bread thing,
3:11 which was pretty much a dessert, and
3:14 avocado toast with sausage. Now, this
3:16 was delicious, but it wasn't toast. It
3:18 wasn't toast. The bread wasn't toasted
3:20 at all. I mean, it was just bread. Also,
3:23 the avocado wasn't on the toast, so I
3:25 don't really know if avocado toast was
3:27 the best description for this dish, but
3:28 it was delicious, so I'm not
3:31 complaining. After that, I did the big
3:32 shop. And yeah, I'm just going to be
3:34 completely honest with you. It's been a
3:36 long year, lots of work. So, I came on
3:39 this holiday with one main intention to
3:42 quietly drink beer on the beach in the
3:46 sun. That's it. And I mean, this shop
3:48 kind of reflects this. Yeah. After that,
3:50 I put on a chill fit and headed out to
3:52 the beach using the exact same entrance
3:54 that you saw in the intro. Can you guess
3:57 what I did there? I just sat there and
3:59 drank beer and listened to music. And
4:01 for the first time in a very long time,
4:03 just chilled out and reflected. And
4:05 honestly, it was so nice. It was so
4:08 chill. It was It was just amazing. I did
4:09 forget to put sunblock on my feet,
4:11 though. And well, I'm not going to show
4:13 you a photo. I don't think we're ready
4:16 for a foot reveal just yet, but they got
4:17 really burnt and I had to deal with that
4:19 for the rest of the holiday. Yeah.
4:21 Anyway, it's about 6 p.m. I showered up,
4:23 left again, and went to this bar
4:25 restaurant place for a taco and a fernet
4:27 coke because obviously I was clearly
4:30 missing Argentina. And I watched Arsenal
4:33 barely scrape a win against Bottom Place
4:36 Wolves on my phone. It was painful. It
4:37 was a painful watch. It probably hurt
4:39 more than the sunburn. After that, I
4:42 headed out to a random bar for a chill
4:44 drink. I mean, Flurry isn't really like
4:46 a party place, by the way. It's very
4:48 chill and relaxed and calm. And to be
4:50 honest, that's exactly what I was
4:52 looking for. So, in this video, you
4:55 shouldn't expect any crazy nights out.
4:58 Or should you? Okay, day number three.
5:00 And this was the first photo I had on my
5:03 phone. It's about 100 p.m. Yeah, a beer
5:05 and a burger. I was on holiday. Okay, so
5:07 once again, don't judge me. And after
5:09 that, I went back to the shop to get
5:11 some more beach supplies. I was on
5:14 holiday, so once again, don't judge me.
5:16 Please, please don't judge me. But
5:19 honestly, my orders at this supermarket
5:21 were so funny. They were pretty much
5:23 always pretty much all the same. Just
5:25 six bottles of beer and a pack of
5:28 almonds or a strawberry yogurt or a pack
5:30 of gum. Just something else to try and
5:31 take away from the fact that I was
5:33 buying six beers in the middle of the
5:36 day. Yeah. Honestly, some of the looks I
5:38 received from the cashiers, it is what
5:40 it is. It is what it is. So, after this,
5:42 I headed back to the beach. This time
5:44 with a sun umbrella and a deck chair.
5:46 And these things kind of saved my life a
5:48 bit, especially the sun umbrella
5:50 because, believe it or not, I don't
5:51 actually tan that well. I know that
5:53 might be quite hard to believe. I have
5:55 this olive skin complexion going on, but
5:57 yeah, I'm not much of a tanner, which is
5:59 strange. I know. I know. After that, I
6:01 made some friends on the beach and we
6:03 played a bit of volleyball. Really fun
6:04 sport, by the way. I've never actually
6:05 played before, but I can see myself
6:07 getting into that. It's It's a lot of
6:08 fun. After that, we went out for some
6:10 food and they took me on a very
6:13 Brazilian night out, but it was nothing
6:15 that crazy, but it felt very authentic.
6:17 Anyway, and just as a side note, I need
6:19 to say this. Brazilians are just
6:21 amazing, by the way. They're such
6:22 brilliant people. And well, in next
6:24 Friday's video, I'm going to be talking
6:26 about them a bit more and talking about
6:28 the country a bit more as well. Right,
6:30 day four. And this is a Monday, by the
6:32 way, just for context. So, what did I do
6:34 here? How did I spend my Monday? Well,
6:36 the usual the usual stuff. I basically
6:39 just sat on the beach drinking souls and
6:42 reading my Kindle. The same Kindle, may
6:43 I add, that I accidentally dropped from
6:46 my balcony later that very evening. And
6:48 guess what? Just look at this photo.
6:50 Look how far it fell. And it survived.
6:53 It fell from such a high distance onto
6:56 unadulterated concrete. And somehow it
6:58 survived. And if you're wondering how I
7:00 it fell from the balcony, basically I
7:02 was trying to shake out all of the sand
7:03 from my bag and I didn't realize it was
7:05 still in there because the Kindle is
7:07 black and my bag is black and yeah, it
7:10 just went absolutely flying out onto the
7:12 concrete. But it survived. So yeah, all
7:13 well that ends well. Now, of course, you
7:15 already know about this if you follow me
7:17 on Instagram because I posted this whole
7:19 thing on my story. My Instagram is
7:21 British education by the way, and the
7:23 link to that is in the top comment.
7:24 Right, then. So in the evening,
7:27 something crazy happened. I met up with
7:30 my new friend for some sushi in a random
7:32 restaurant in the middle of Florip. And
7:35 guess what? Are you ready for this? I
7:37 walked in. I walked in. The hostess sat
7:39 me down. And after a couple of minutes,
7:41 she walked up to me and said, "So,
7:43 what's your name?" I said, "It's Dylan."
7:45 And she said, "Oh, wow. Yeah, I
7:47 recognized you as soon as you walked in.
7:48 I knew your name was Dylan. I watch your
7:50 YouTube videos and listen to your
7:52 Spotify. That's amazing. Can you believe
7:53 that? I kid you not. This this never
7:55 happens to me." Yeah. I'm not like
7:57 famous or anything in any way. It's just
7:59 such a coincidence. It was crazy. So,
8:01 this is the second time this has ever
8:03 happened, but I'd say this is the first
8:06 purely random encounter because this did
8:09 happen once in Japan last year, but it
8:10 was at a language exchange. So, I feel
8:12 like at a language exchange, it doesn't
8:14 really count because you're kind of
8:15 putting the odds in your favor a bit.
8:17 But, this was completely random. It was
8:20 amazing. I was shocked, honestly. And
8:21 yeah, it was a really pleasant
8:23 experience. We shook hands. We had a
8:25 really nice chat. She was Brazilian but
8:27 moved to London for a bit and wow. Yeah,
8:29 it was just it was a lovely interaction.
8:31 So unexpected and the sushi there was
8:35 delicious as well. So yeah, happy days.
8:38 Day five, Tuesday. So to begin, I needed
8:40 to fix this broken tripod thing that I
8:42 use to record these walk and talk
8:44 videos. So very important. But
8:46 thankfully I bought the world's
8:49 strongest superlue from Argentina. So I
8:50 was all good. It was all good. And I
8:52 headed out for my usual breakfast. I
8:54 love this cafe. It's called Paradiso
8:56 Cafe, which is an accurate name because
8:58 honestly, it's amazing. This place is
9:00 paradise. Anyway, after that, I got into
9:03 bed and wrote my weekly Tuesday
9:05 newsletter. Yeah. So, I wrote that one
9:07 from bed. To be honest, I do write quite
9:09 a lot of them from bed as well. So, if
9:10 you didn't know, every single Tuesday, I
9:12 send out a fun newsletter, kind of like
9:14 this video, but in email form, and you
9:16 can sign up for free using the link in
9:18 the top comment. Anyway, this was the
9:20 only day that wasn't sunny during the
9:22 whole week. And honestly, thank God
9:24 because as mentioned, my feet did get
9:27 pretty badly burnt on the first day. So,
9:29 I kind of just rested at home for most
9:31 of this one. I think I watched The
9:32 Office or something like that. It was a
9:34 very chill one. Yeah. Day six,
9:36 Wednesday, which is actually the
9:38 penultimate full day. I left on Friday
9:40 and here the sun was back out and to
9:43 celebrate, I filmed the exact footage
9:45 that you are watching right now. Yeah, I
9:47 was walking around for about 2 hours
9:49 filming and then I got a taxi home. So,
9:52 at about 300 p.m. I got back into my
9:55 house. And after that, well,
9:57 you already know. But in fairness, this
9:59 was my last day of drinking beer on the
10:01 beach because, believe it or not, I kind
10:03 of just got a bit bored of it all. I
10:04 mean, drinking is fun. I do enjoy it,
10:07 but when you overdo it, it's just um
10:09 it's not good. It's not good. Everything
10:12 in moderation. Okay, day seven, the
10:15 final full day. So, for the first time
10:17 during my stay here, I went for a
10:19 morning dip. Yeah. So, this was at about
10:22 8:00 a.m. And honestly, it was so nice.
10:24 It was so so nice. It was heavenly. I
10:26 keep using that adjective heavenly
10:27 because it probably is just the best way
10:29 to describe Florianopoulos.
10:31 Florianopoulos. Floripe. We'll just call
10:33 it Flor. So, after that, I went for
10:35 another dose of avocado toast. And in
10:37 fairness, in fairness, the bread was
10:39 actually slightly toasted this time,
10:40 which is good. I think it does improve
10:42 this dish. And then I went to the shop
10:46 for some beer. No, not beer. Not beer. I
10:47 told you I'm over that. I've matured.
10:50 Instead, I bought a packed lunch because
10:53 on my final day, I decided to do a hike
10:55 and just do loads of filming as well.
10:58 And honestly, I got so much good footage
10:59 on this day. And next Friday, I will
11:02 show all of it to you. I was walking and
11:05 filming for about 6 hours in the sun,
11:07 maybe 7 hours. And honestly, everything
11:11 just went wrong. Everything went
11:13 terribly wrong. I kept getting lost. I
11:15 kept slipping over as well. Like, I'd
11:16 just be walking and randomly. I would
11:19 trip over or slip over. It was so weird.
11:21 But all of this will result in a really
11:24 good video and that will be posted next
11:25 Friday. So yeah, that was it really. I
11:28 went to this beautiful hidden beach
11:30 place. It was just lovely. And I also
11:32 took quite possibly the most AI looking
11:34 photo in the world. This isn't AI. I
11:36 promise this isn't AI. And if you follow
11:38 me on Instagram, British education by
11:40 the way, you will see the original video
11:42 footage of me actually bumping into this
11:45 nonAI horse. It's crazy. but you will
11:46 also see it in next Friday's video as
11:48 well. After that, I had an empanada with
11:51 my final beer of the trip. Sat down on
11:52 this swing thing, spoke to one of my
11:54 friends on the phone and eventually
11:56 finished the trip by going to an all you
11:59 can eat sushi restaurant, which honestly
12:02 felt like such a fitting way to end my
12:04 South American journey because I've had
12:06 so much sushi during the last few
12:08 months. And you can't actually see it in
12:10 this photo, but I did also order a Coke
12:13 Zero as well. Day eight, the final day.
12:15 Okay. Now, luckily my flight wasn't till
12:17 about 7:00 p.m., so I did have some time
12:19 for another morning dip, which I
12:21 thoroughly enjoyed. And I did also,
12:24 don't ask me why, but I randomly made this
12:26 this
12:28 I made this thing. It's kind of like a
12:30 video game design made of sand. It's
12:32 kind of like Mario, and you have to jump
12:35 on the sticks, the wooden things in the
12:37 sand, and you need to get onto the
12:39 platform in order to complete that
12:41 particular level. Yeah, don't ask me why
12:42 I made this. I think maybe the sun was
12:44 getting to me at that point, but I was
12:46 weirdly proud of this one. So, just
12:48 imagine that your character needs to
12:50 follow the white lines and then you need
12:51 to get the Okay, I'll stop talking about
12:53 it. I then packed up, left the Airbnb I
12:55 was staying in and went back to the cafe
12:59 where I sat for about 5 hours just
13:01 ordering various dishes, using up all of
13:03 my Brazilian cash because, well, my
13:05 flight wasn't till later and I had all
13:07 of my luggage with me, so I couldn't
13:09 really go anywhere else. I did do a bit
13:11 of shopping at this marketplace which
13:12 was right next to where I was sitting. I
13:14 got some good XM gifts and also this
13:16 cute bracelet thing which I actually
13:18 really like. I then arrived at the
13:20 airport, checked in my luggage and also
13:22 please notice the Henry the dog sticker.
13:24 Yes, very cute. And went back to my
13:26 Argentinian roots by having one final
13:30 empanada and Coke Zero meal. And yeah,
13:31 that's pretty much it. The flight was
13:33 actually quite chill thankfully. It was
13:36 an hour to Sao Paulo and then a 12hour
13:38 flight to London from there leaving at
13:40 midnight. So, it was kind of perfect for
13:42 sleeping. Now, I don't know about you,
13:44 but I'm not really someone who can
13:46 normally sleep that well on public
13:49 transport. But listen, that is where the
13:51 beer does come in handy and also the hot
13:54 dogs. This was literally my last moment
13:56 of holiday, my last moment before
13:58 returning back to real life. So, you
14:00 know, I had to indulge as much as I
14:03 possibly could. And also, I had to
14:05 absolutely wolf these down, by the way,
14:07 because I was pretty close to missing my
14:09 flight. I was one of the last people to
14:11 board. And well, that would have been
14:12 problematic. I would have been stuck in
14:14 Brazil for Christmas, which wouldn't
14:15 have been that bad now that I'm thinking
14:17 about it, but maybe my family wouldn't
14:19 have been best pleased by that. So, the
14:20 flight was all good. I did manage to
14:22 sleep for most of it. And when I was
14:24 arriving into the UK, I actually played
14:26 a little game with myself. I imagined
14:28 that I was coming to England for the
14:30 first time. And I thought about what my
14:32 first impressions would be. And well,
14:34 firstly, I couldn't help but notice how
14:36 beautiful and green it was. And that
14:38 made me very happy. And by the way, I
14:40 have no idea what this thing is, the
14:42 water with all the trees. But it looks
14:44 amazing. That would be a great place to
14:46 do a walk and talk video. Actually,
14:47 maybe I should make the trip. So, I
14:49 continued with my game and after
14:51 landing, I then kind of just laughed to
14:54 myself cuz I heard all of the British
14:56 accents because, well, I imagined that
14:58 that was something that you might do
14:59 when you come here for the first time as
15:01 well, or if you've already been to the
15:02 UK, that's probably what you did when
15:04 you first arrived. And that also just
15:07 made me smile. And finally, I noted how
15:10 cold it was, but also how crisp and
15:12 refreshing the air was. So, during this
15:14 game, I did give myself quite a positive
15:16 impression of the UK, which is a nice
15:18 thing to say. And that was my holiday.
15:21 It was very nice, relaxing, and needed.
15:22 But I'm back in the swing of things now
15:24 and very much excited to get back to the
15:27 weekly Friday uploads, as well as a few
15:29 other very exciting things that I have
15:32 coming up in 20126. And we will speak
15:34 about all of these in next Friday's
15:36 video, which will be a very special one.
15:38 So, just as a reminder, you can download
15:40 the full script from today's video using
15:42 the link in the top comment. It's
15:44 completely free and you will also be
15:46 automatically signed up to my weekly
15:48 Tuesday newsletter as well. So, you
15:50 know, it's a win-win. Now, this was of
15:52 course a bit more of a relaxed video,
15:53 but if you are looking to seriously
15:55 level up all areas of your English with
15:58 me in a more comprehensive, detailed,
16:00 and structured way, then I've just
16:02 launched my 5-in-1 online English
16:05 fluency course covering five modules and
16:08 over 210 lessons featuring everything
16:09 that you need to know to feel like a
16:12 native in British English. And the link
16:14 to that is also in the top comment. I
16:16 would highly recommend checking that
16:17 out. Honestly, this course is the best
16:21 thing I've ever made in my entire life.
16:22 Okay, then. Thank you so much for
16:24 watching and of course, thanks to Brazil
16:26 for being so lovely. If you did enjoy
16:28 today's video, make sure to like,
16:30 comment, and subscribe. And I'll see you
16:31 next Tuesday for another newsletter and
16:34 next Friday for another very special
16:36 video. Now, in the meantime, here is the
16:38 full guide to Christmas video that I was
16:40 speaking about earlier. Or if you wish
16:42 to explore Argentina with me, then you
16:44 should watch this video right here
16:46 instead. Right, then. Thank you again
16:47 for listening and I'll see you again soon.
