0:14 Kentucky or the Moody Church in Chicago
0:17 Illinois for additional resources please
0:20 visit tofit you.com that's the number
0:27 two p r o p h tu.com and now Dr Warren
0:30 weby tonight we begin a series of stud
0:32 studies in
0:34 Galatians Galatians is one of the most
0:36 dangerous books in the New Testament
0:38 most Christians don't want to believe
0:40 what it
0:42 says and so if you'll open the word of
0:45 God to Galatians tonight I want to cover
0:52 1 there are three books in the New
0:55 Testament written to explain one verse of
0:57 of
1:00 scripture that verse of scripture is
1:02 habach 2 and:
1:07 4 which says the just shall live by
1:11 faith now that verse is so
1:14 important the just shall live by his
1:17 faith that the holy spirit of God has
1:20 written three new testament
1:24 commentaries on that verse Romans
1:27 explains the
1:32 just Galatians explains s shall
1:36 live and Hebrews explains by
1:40 faith you'll find habc 24 quoted in all
1:42 three of those
1:46 books the just shall
1:50 live by faith you'll find it in Romans
1:53 1:17 the just you'll find it in
1:57 Galatians 311 shall live and you'll find
2:00 it in Hebrews 10:38
2:03 by faith now the theme the key verse of
2:06 Galatians is chapter 5
2:09 verse1 and you must keep in mind that
2:10 he's writing to
2:12 Christians he is not writing to
2:18 unbelievers when he says Stand Fast
2:21 therefore in the
2:25 Liberty with which Christ hath made us
2:28 free and be not
2:30 entangled again
2:33 with the Yoke of bondage in other words
2:37 the danger in the Christian Life is that
2:49 over the the danger of
2:52 legalism is ever with
2:56 us and unfortunately there are many
2:59 Christians who don't really understand
3:02 what it means to be
3:04 free now we Christians are usually
3:06 guilty of going to
3:09 extremes we're like Peter Peter said
3:11 Thou shalt never wash my
3:14 feet Jesus said if I wash you not you
3:16 have no fellowship with me oh in that
3:18 case wash my feet and my hands and my
3:20 head he goes from one extreme to
3:24 another and Christians do that the one
3:26 extreme is
3:30 legalism which robs us of true freedom
3:32 the other is
3:35 license there are those who say you are
3:37 living by Grace therefore live any way you
3:38 you
3:41 please God is always there to forgive
3:44 you and after all you don't live by law
3:45 you live by Grace now we don't want
3:48 either extreme of
3:50 license or of
3:56 legalism we want true mature Christian
3:59 Liberty and alas many Christians don't
4:00 know what that is
4:02 this is why Galatians was
4:06 written now Paul opens the letter with
4:08 two chapters of
4:11 biography the first two chapters of
4:13 Galatians are
4:16 personal the next two chapters chapters
4:19 3 and four are doctrinal the last two
4:23 chapters five and six are practical
4:25 there's a good way to write a book he
4:27 begins with the personal he says this is
4:29 what happened to me
4:32 I speak to you not from some other
4:34 authority I speak to you from what God
4:35 has done for
4:39 me personal then he moves into the
4:40 doctrine all he said now let me explain
4:43 to you what the scriptures have to say
4:45 about Christian freedom and in chapters
4:47 3 and four he deals with that then
4:50 having explained the doctrine he says
4:52 now let's make it practical here's what
4:56 it means to you here's how to live it in
4:57 your everyday
5:00 life in this first chapter
5:03 Paul tells us about his conversion
5:07 experience and in this chapter Paul
5:12 tells us this he says when I was
5:15 converted I experienced
5:19 four wonderful
5:22 freedoms and these Four Freedoms are
5:26 spelled out for us in Galatians chapter
5:29 1 now if you are a Christian tonight
5:32 these Four Freedoms are
5:34 yours now if you're not a Christian of
5:36 course you have no Freedom at
5:40 all the First Freedom is
5:45 freedom from the bondage of sin Paul an
5:50 apostle not of men neither by man but by
5:52 Jesus Christ and God the Father who
5:54 raised him from the
5:57 dead Paul and Apostle and all the
5:58 Brethren who are with me unto the
6:01 Churches of God galatia Grace be to you
6:03 and peace from God the father and from
6:07 our Lord Jesus Christ who gave himself
6:13 sins I Marvel he says in verse 6 that ye
6:16 are so soon
6:20 deserting from him God that called you
6:24 into the grace of Christ unto another
6:27 gospel which is not another but there
6:29 are some that trouble you and would
6:31 pervert or
6:34 reverse the gospel of Christ but though
6:37 we are an angel from heaven preach any
6:39 other gospel unto you than that which we
6:42 have preached unto you let him be a
6:45 cursed as we said before so say I now
6:47 again if any
6:50 man preach any other gospel unto you
6:53 than that ye have received let him be a
6:55 cursed here is the First Freedom Paul
6:59 experienced the freedom from the bondage
7:01 and the penalty of
7:04 sin now I don't have to tell this
7:06 congregation that the greatest bondage
7:09 in the world is the bondage of
7:12 sin the terrible thing about the bondage
7:15 of sin is this the people who are
7:19 sinning really think they're free and
7:21 yet the more they sin the more bondage they
7:23 they
7:26 incur that's the dangerous thing about
7:28 Sin this is what Hebrews calls the
7:31 deceitfulness of sin sin here's a person
7:35 who is indulging in sin and he says I'm
7:38 free I'm so glad I'm free to sin I can
7:41 do all these things what he doesn't
7:43 realize is that the more he does them
7:45 and the more he wants to do them the
7:49 more he gets into bondage there is a
7:51 physical bondage to
7:54 sin people develop appetites that have
7:57 to be satisfied and the tragedy is the
7:59 more they satisfy them the less
8:01 satisfied they
8:05 are there is a mental bondage to sin
8:07 there are people who are obsessed with
8:09 sin first thing in the morning that's
8:11 what they think about last thing at
8:12 night and all day
8:15 long there certainly is a terrible
8:18 emotional bondage to sin I have yet to
8:21 meet a person who can honestly say
8:25 Pastor I am a better person because I've
8:28 sinned usually what they say to me is I
8:31 have Pro problems emotionally I have
8:34 problems mentally and
8:37 physically the slavery of
8:41 sin now the Apostle Paul was a religious
8:44 man before he was saved he was Saul of
8:47 Tarsus and if you had looked at Saul of
8:49 Tarsus and measured him by the Ten
8:50 Commandments you would have said that
8:52 man's going to
8:55 heaven but he knew better and when he
8:59 saw the Holiness of Jesus Christ and
9:01 heard heard the voice of Jesus Christ
9:05 and fell on his face before Jesus Christ
9:09 then he realized how sinful he was and
9:11 that all of his righteousnesses were his
9:14 filthy rags Paul did not have to give up
9:18 his sins only to get saved Paul had to
9:24 righteousness now Paul gives to us here
9:27 the gospel look at it verse four who
9:30 gave himself for our sins Christ died
9:33 for our sins he was buried verse one who
9:35 raised him from the dead there's the
9:37 gospel Paul says there is no other
9:40 gospel we declare unto you the
9:43 gospel which is this that Christ died
9:45 for our sins according to the scripture
9:47 he was buried he arose again the third
9:49 day according to the scriptures he was
9:51 seen of witnesses this is the gospel the
9:53 good news the good news that because he
9:55 died I don't have to die the good news
9:57 that because he died for my sins I don't
10:00 have to bear my sins the good news that
10:01 because he arose again went back to
10:03 Heaven I don't have to be afraid he can
10:05 take me to Heaven he's opened up the New
10:08 and Living Way now Paul gives us in
10:10 these first four verses The
10:19 sins this cup is the New Covenant in my
10:23 blood shed for the remission of
10:25 sins the First Freedom that Paul
10:28 experienced was the freedom that comes
10:31 when you believe on Jesus Christ and he
10:35 forgives your sins the freedom from
10:39 sin in verses 6-9 Paul makes it very
10:42 clear there's only one gospel because
10:45 the galatian churches had been invaded
10:46 by a group of false teachers those
10:49 people are still with us they go by
10:52 different names but they have the same
10:54 basic theology it goes like this oh
10:56 there's nothing wrong with believing in
10:59 Jesus Oh yes we believe that Jesus died
11:02 di for our sins that he arose again but
11:06 you're saved by Believing on Jesus
11:09 plus plus some people say you're saved
11:12 un by Believing on Jesus plus keeping
11:13 the Ten Commandments especially the
11:18 Sabbath day the dietary laws there are
11:20 those who say you're saved by trusting
11:25 Jesus Christ plus baptism or church
11:28 ceremonies of one kind or another watch
11:30 out for those people a
11:33 plus Paul says if anybody including the Apostle
11:34 Apostle
11:36 Peter whom we're going to meet in
11:38 Chapter 2 preaches any other
11:41 gospel then what I preached to you let
11:43 him be a curse let him be
11:45 anathema that's one of the strongest
11:47 indictments one of the strongest words
11:51 of condemnation Paul could use literally
11:54 he is saying let him go to
11:56 hell that's
11:58 serious there's only one gospel there
12:01 are many go gospels that claim to be
12:04 gospels there's the gospel of good
12:08 works there's the gospel of church
12:10 ceremonies but Paul makes it very clear
12:14 there's only one saving gospel that's
12:17 the Gospel of Jesus Christ if the son
12:21 shall make you free you shall be free
12:23 indeed the
12:25 freedom from
12:29 sin and its penalty
12:32 now all of this is by Grace one of the
12:35 key themes in the go in Galatians is
12:39 Grace chapters 1 and two Grace and the
12:42 gospel chapters three and four Grace and
12:46 the law chapters five and six Grace and
12:48 the Christian Life it's Grace from
12:50 beginning to end he greets them with
12:53 Grace in verse three grace be unto you
12:56 in verse six I Marvel that you are
12:59 deserting him that called you into the
13:03 grace of Christ over in verse 15 when it
13:07 pleased God who called me by his
13:10 grace all the way through this book it's
13:12 Grace in fact it ends with Grace Paul
13:14 not only starts with Grace but he ends
13:17 with Grace chapter 6 ver1 18 Brethren
13:19 the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with
13:24 you now if you've been saved any other
13:28 way than by grace through Believing on
13:31 Jesus Christ Christ as given in the
13:33 gospel you're not
13:36 saved you may say well you people at
13:40 Moody Church are awfully dogmatic and
13:42 narrow-minded when it comes to the
13:45 gospel yes we are because there is none
13:48 other name under Heaven given among men
13:51 whereby we must be saved the second
13:53 Freedom that Paul experienced is given
13:55 to us in verse 4
13:57 4
14:02 freedom from this present evil age who
14:05 gave himself for our sins that he might
14:08 Deliver us and this word delivered is
14:11 used only here in the Apostle Paul's
14:14 letters he never uses this word any
14:18 place else that he might Deliver Us from
14:22 this present evil age the word world
14:25 there means not the world of matter but
14:29 the world of time age that he might
14:32 Deliver Us from this present evil age
14:34 according to the will of God have you
14:36 ever gone through your Bible to discover
14:39 what the Bible says about this present evil
14:41 evil
14:44 age I don't care when you were born you
14:51 age Jesus says in Matthew 13 and verse
14:54 32 that one of the things that chokes
15:06 in Luke 168 he says the children of this
15:09 age not the children of God the children
15:12 of this age are wiser in their
15:15 generation than are the children of
15:19 light Romans 122 says be not conformed
15:22 to this
15:25 age you see the unsaved person is a
15:29 child of this age he carries the care of
15:33 this age he is conformed to this age
15:37 whatever this age loves he loves
15:41 whatever the age lives for he lives
15:44 for 1 Corinthians 2:6 talks about the
15:47 wisdom of this
15:51 Age 2 Corinthians 4:4 makes the
15:55 devastating statement the God of this
15:58 age has blinded the minds of them that
15:59 believe not
16:01 now we who are Christians don't belong
16:05 to this age Ephesians 2:2 who walked
16:08 according to the course the age of this
16:10 world that's literally what it says the
16:16 the course of things there is in this
16:20 Society a power and an
16:23 organization and a set of values and
16:26 goals and philosophies the Bible says
16:27 that's this
16:30 age now now when I was unsaved I
16:32 belonged to that and I thought it was
16:36 great I measured my success by this age
16:38 how much money do you have how
16:41 recognized are you I measured my
16:44 Pleasures by this age I did what this
16:48 age does the unsaved person is being
16:52 squeezed by this age now Paul says when you're
16:53 you're
16:56 saved you are delivered from this
16:59 present evil age a Christian does not
17:03 live the way unsafe people live in this
17:06 present evil age that's why Peter writes
17:07 and says to those Christians who were
17:09 suffering says your unsaved friends they
17:10 think it's
17:13 strange they think you're
17:15 weird they think it's strange you don't
17:17 run with them the same excess you used
17:20 to run they think you're strange people
17:21 in fact when Peter writes them he calls
17:23 them the
17:25 strangers scattered
17:27 abroad now the unsaved world thinks
17:29 we're strange we don't think the way
17:32 they think we don't spend our money the
17:34 way they spend theirs we
17:37 shouldn't the pleasures that we live for
17:39 are not the pleasures of sin for a
17:41 season they are the pleasures that we
17:43 find in Christ in thy presence is
17:45 fullness of joy at thy right hand there
17:47 are Pleasures forever
17:52 more freedom from this present evil age
17:56 that is a tremendous thing I tell you to
17:58 be able to get up in the morning and
18:01 know know that you're not caught in the
18:02 drift of this
18:05 age now I want you to know it's rough to
18:09 fight the drift of this age any Old Log
18:11 can float Downstream but it takes some
18:17 upstream but thank God we've been
18:21 delivered from this present evil age and
18:24 Jesus Christ did it on the cross this
18:27 word that he uses in verse four deliver
18:30 has two basic meanings me to it it means
18:32 first of all to rescue from
18:35 danger secondly it means to deliver from
18:37 bondage it's the same word that used
18:39 when Peter was set free from prison in Acts
18:40 Acts
18:43 12 he was delivered that's the word that
18:45 used what happened he was set free from
18:48 danger the next morning he was going to be
18:49 be
18:52 beheaded he was set free from danger and
18:55 when Jesus Christ saved you he set you
18:58 free from danger by setting you free
19:01 from this present evil age people who
19:04 are living for this present evil age are in
19:05 in
19:08 danger in danger of what in danger of
19:12 losing everything including their
19:15 souls Peter Not only was delivered from
19:17 danger he was delivered from bondage he
19:19 was guarded by Four soldiers he was
19:21 behind locked doors he was wearing
19:23 chains he went sound asleep because he
19:26 knew he wasn't going to be killed the
19:27 Apostle Peter went to bed that night he
19:29 knew he wouldn't be killed Ked because
19:31 Jesus had told him how and when he would
19:34 die when you are old they're going to
19:37 carry you on a cross so Peter's sound
19:39 asleep he's so sound asleep the angel
19:41 has to hit him to wake him
19:46 up imagine having an angel for an alarm
19:48 clock only the saints of God have
19:52 privileges like that and the angel woke
19:54 him up and said get up and the chains
19:58 fell off he said follow me and the doors
20:00 open that's
20:02 Freedom oh how marvelous it is when you
20:05 trust Jesus Christ and you are set free
20:08 from this present evil age Hebrews chap
20:11 6:5 says that we Christians have tasted
20:15 the power of the age to come dear friend
20:19 if you are living for and on this
20:23 present evil age you must be
20:26 miserable but if you're a Christian and
20:29 you're living on the power of the age to
20:32 come oh that's tremendous Mr Spurgeon
20:34 used to say little
20:38 faith will take your soul to heaven but
20:41 great faith will bring Heaven to your
20:43 soul that's what Paul's talking about
20:46 set free from this present evil age we
20:48 aren't worried about what they say about
20:51 us what they do to us we're free they
20:54 are the ones that are in
20:57 bondage now Paul experienced a third
21:00 freedom and he explains this in verses
21:01 10 through
21:05 21 first the freedom from sin its
21:09 penalty its bondage secondly
21:12 freedom from this present evil age thirdly
21:14 thirdly
21:18 freedom from
21:20 men did you notice how many times Paul
21:24 talks about men in this chapter verse
21:29 one Paul an apostle not of men need NE
21:33 by man verse 10 for do I now seek the
21:37 favor of man or of God or do I seek to
21:40 please man for if I yet pleased man I
21:42 should not be the servant of
21:45 Christ for I make known to you Brethren
21:47 that the gospel which was preached by me
21:50 is not after man for I neither received
21:54 it of man neither was I taught it but by
21:58 the revelation of Jesus Christ for
22:00 you've heard of my manner of life in
22:03 time pass in the Jews religion how that
22:06 I beyond measure persecuted the Church
22:09 of God and wasted it and profited in the
22:12 Jews religion above many my equals in my
22:15 own Nation being more exceedingly
22:19 zealous of the traditions of my fathers
22:22 but when it pleased God who separated me
22:25 from my mother's womb and called me by
22:28 his grace to reveal his son in me that I
22:29 might preach preach him among the
22:32 Gentiles immediately I conferred not
22:34 with man with flesh and blood neither
22:37 went I up to Jerusalem to them who were
22:39 Apostles before me but I went into
22:42 Arabia returned again to
22:44 Damascus then after three years I went
22:46 up to Jerusalem to see Peter and Abode
22:49 with him 15 days but other of the
22:51 Apostles saw I None except James the
22:53 Lord's brother now the things which I
22:56 write unto you behold before God I lie not
22:58 not
23:01 the emphasis in this section is I have
23:04 been set free from
23:06 men notice
23:10 please in Paul's unconverted days he had
23:13 lived to please Men first of all
23:15 himself Paul could look in the mirror
23:17 every day and say you are the leading
23:20 Rabbi among the young men you are really
23:23 making tracks they're going to be
23:26 writing you up one of these days you're
23:29 going to be a great rabbi
23:30 he lived to please
23:32 himself why was he persecuting the
23:36 church because it helped him to profit
23:40 in his religious ladder that he was
23:42 climbing he lived to please other people
23:45 his peers he said I was more zealous
23:47 than all of my
23:51 equals you know the unsaved person has
23:54 his life wrapped up in pleasing himself
23:59 and pleasing other people and sad to say
24:00 there are many Christians who have
24:03 handed their freedom over to someone
24:05 else and their lives are being run by
24:07 other people now I'm not talking about deserting
24:09 deserting
24:12 discipline children in the home obey their
24:13 their
24:17 parents members in the church obey those
24:20 who have spiritual rule over them
24:23 students in a school there is obedience
24:24 to be
24:27 shown Paul's not talking about that Paul
24:31 is saying here that when he got saved
24:33 and experienced the grace of God from
24:39 now on his life was live to please God
24:42 not to please people notice please his
24:45 ministry didn't come from man it came
24:49 from God verse one Paul an apostle not
24:54 of man neither by man now that's the
24:56 problem Paul used to face these
24:58 judaizers this crowd that went around
25:00 saying you got to be circumcised to be
25:02 saved got to keep the law of Moses okay
25:04 to believe in Jesus but you got to keep
25:06 the law of Moses these judaizers said
25:09 where where did Paul get his credentials
25:11 did you ever ask to see Paul's
25:13 credentials did you ever ask him to open
25:16 up and show where he was
25:18 ordained uh did did he get his
25:20 credentials from from the the Jewish
25:22 Council in
25:25 Jerusalem was he one of the original 12
25:27 Apostles no he wasn't so you can't
25:30 listen to Paul
25:32 Paul said wait a minute I didn't get my
25:34 Ministry from
25:38 men I read church history and biography
25:40 and I've noticed something interesting
25:44 that very often God bypasses the
25:46 authorities and picks up somebody who
25:49 doesn't have his credentials from the
25:51 authorities and uses that person to the
25:56 God Martin Luther would have a rough
25:59 time getting credentials
26:02 John Wesley John Wesley was not even
26:05 permitted to preach in his own
26:07 churches he had to start preaching Out
26:10 of Doors George Whitfield here were men
26:12 who had credentials with the
26:14 authorities but the authorities wouldn't
26:17 accept them now they
26:20 do God lays his hands on a DL
26:28 Sunday Paul is saying my ministry didn't
26:32 come from men my Ministry came from
26:34 God now many of you listening to me
26:36 right now are planning on a Ministry
26:38 you're training for a Ministry I want
26:41 you to hear me your ministry had better
26:42 come from
26:45 God if the only reason you minister is
26:47 because of some credential somebody gave
26:50 you you're in trouble because the
26:51 devil's going to fight you and that
26:53 credential is not going to carry you
26:55 through you'd better know you're called of
26:56 of
27:00 God his ministry did not come from man
27:03 and his motive did not come from man
27:07 verse 10 do I now seek the favor of man
27:08 or of
27:12 God or do I seek to please men now Paul
27:14 is not saying here I'm not conscious of
27:17 men in fact it begins here all the
27:19 Brethren who are with me verse two Paul
27:21 wasn't a loner Paul was not an
27:23 isolationist Paul was not an ultra
27:26 separationist Paul believed in working
27:28 together with people he talks about the
27:31 Brethren who are with me verse
27:34 two over here in verse 18 he went to see
27:36 Peter he went to see [Music]
27:38 [Music]
27:40 James Jesus Christ when he changed
27:42 Paul's life didn't make him an
27:45 isolationist he brought him as a part of
27:48 the body but Paul's motive for Christian
27:51 Living and service was not to please men
27:54 or to get the approval of
27:56 men one of the sad things in our
27:59 Evangelical world to today is you've got
28:01 to jump on a
28:04 bandwagon there are all sorts of people
28:05 who have all kinds of religious
28:07 bandwagons and if you don't belong to
28:09 this group you're criticized if you
28:12 don't belong to that group you're
28:15 crucified this is
28:18 tragic I have said from this Pulpit many
28:19 times in the last six years and you're
28:21 going to hear me say it many more times
28:24 I am no man's
28:26 disciple and I want no man to be my disciple
28:28 disciple
28:30 I want no one to ever sayoh I believe
28:33 that because weby believes it oh I
28:35 preach that because weby preaches it you
28:37 better have your own convictions and
28:40 your own message I am no man's disciple
28:44 I bow down to no man on this Earth I
28:50 men Paul said my motive for Christian
28:52 Living is not to please
28:55 men I have seen some Christian
28:58 organizations completely reverse their p
29:00 policies and principles because a donor
29:03 wrote a letter and criticized him afraid
29:07 of men we dare not do this somebody
29:08 might say something now we must be
29:11 careful here we must be careful this
29:14 does not mean we just flagrantly
29:16 carelessly do what we please and let
29:18 quote the chips fall where they may oh
29:21 no that's not Christian Love Christian
29:23 love says I am concerned about you and
29:26 I'm concerned about my influence on you
29:28 Paul was not a bull in the china shop
29:33 Paul was not a Don kyote out tilting at
29:35 windmills the Apostle Paul knew what he
29:37 was doing and why he was doing it but he
29:41 said my motive is not to please men the
29:49 snare his ministry did not come from men
29:51 and his motive did not come from men and
29:53 his message did not come from men verses
29:56 11 and 12 the gospel which was preached
29:58 by me is not after man
30:00 for neither I receive it of man well
30:02 Paul where'd you get it I got it from
30:05 Jesus the Lord Jesus appeared to me and
30:16 men you uh young men as you're training
30:18 to go out and preach be sure you get
30:27 men a publisher contacted me many months
30:28 ago wanted to know if I would write a
30:32 book of sermon outlines I said for what
30:37 sells I said well Heaven Help any
30:38 preacher who's got to get his outlines
30:41 from somebody
30:44 else trying to trying to build a fire
30:47 with borrowed wood trying to build with
30:49 borrowed bricks I read many sermons I
30:52 average reading a sermon a day of other
30:55 men but woe be unto me if that becomes
30:58 my message
31:00 now we milk a lot of cows but we make
31:06 butter some preachers are like ants you
31:08 know the ant gathers this and gathers
31:11 that and stores it up and then uses it
31:13 but preachers ought to be like bees that
31:16 digest what they take in and then make the
31:17 the
31:19 honey Paul said my message didn't come
31:21 from me I don't get my message from me
31:23 no one tells me what to
31:29 preach he was free from Men
31:31 now Paul recognized the other Apostles
31:33 Paul was not a rebel he was not a
31:37 revolutionary but he dared to be himself
31:39 and preach his own message we're going
31:41 to see next week the Lord willing in
31:44 chapter two that there are two kinds of
31:46 people that we have to be afraid of
31:48 there are two dangerous people who will
31:50 rob us of our Liberty they're given in chapter
31:51 chapter
31:55 two one is the false brother who comes
31:58 in from the outside the other is the
32:05 out and there are men who would Rob us
32:07 of our
32:10 Liberty and Paul says Stand Fast in that
32:13 Liberty that Christ has given to
32:15 you Paul was free from
32:17 men you know it's interesting when
32:19 you're free from men then you can serve
32:22 men when you're free from all you become
32:25 the servant of all when you're free from
32:27 somebody's bondage and you have only a
32:29 bondage to Jesus Christ then your heart
32:31 is filled with love for everybody even
32:34 if they don't belong to your group the
32:36 disciples came to Jesus one day and said
32:37 we saw a man casting out demons in your
32:40 name he hasn't belong to our group we
32:41 told him to
32:43 quit he doesn't come to our conventions
32:50 magazine Jesus said don't you tell him to
32:56 quit no man's going to use my name
32:58 carelessly if he's casting out demons in
33:01 my name we have a lot of that
33:04 today what group do you belong to what
33:07 badge do you have what label you
33:10 aware Paul said I'm free from that and
33:14 because I'm free from it I can serve
33:16 everybody there's a fourth Freedom that Paul
33:17 Paul
33:21 experienced in verses 22-
33:25 24 he was free from the penalty and the
33:27 bondage of sin he was free from this
33:30 Pres an evil age he was free from
33:32 men and he was
33:35 free from his
33:39 past look at verse 21 afterward I came
33:42 into the regions of Syria and Silesia
33:44 and was Unknown by faith under the
33:47 churches of Judea which were in Christ
33:50 but they had heard Only He Who
33:53 persecuted Us in times pass now preaches
33:55 the faith which once he destroyed and
33:59 they glorified God in Me Paul said I am
34:02 free from my past now this is what
34:05 Christian freedom is Christian Freedom
34:07 does not mean God sets me free to do
34:09 what I want to do if I did what I wanted
34:11 to do that'd be the worst bondage in the
34:14 world Christian Freedom means god Set Me
34:19 Free to become all that I can
34:22 become salvation is much more than just
34:24 being forgiven and set free from the
34:26 bondage and penalty of sin salvation
34:30 means now you are free in the grace of
34:33 God to become all that you can become in
34:37 Jesus Christ verse 15 Paul dares to say
34:40 he'd been set apart from his mother's
34:43 womb Paul says this business of grace
34:46 even starts before you're
34:48 born God had a plan for me before I was
34:58 grace verse 16 by grace God revealed his
35:05 changed there are many people listening
35:07 to me right now who are still Shackled
35:10 by their past every problem you have
35:12 comes from your first
35:15 birth I was born into the wrong family
35:22 family wrong
35:25 family when I was born the first time I
35:28 was born a loser
35:30 but thank God when I was born the second
35:33 time I was born a winner whatsoever is
35:38 overcometh Paul is telling me here that
35:40 he was
35:42 changed now let me make a a little
35:45 matter clear here
35:52 please God changed Paul's personality by
35:54 changing his
35:57 character there are some Churches where
36:00 everybody walks alike carries their
36:04 Bible alike talks alike sings alike
36:06 prays alike it's sort of a cookie cutter
36:08 Affair where everybody comes out the
36:11 same way they just got to wear uniforms
36:13 wind them up before the service and turn
36:16 them mo God never meant for it to be
36:18 that way when Jesus called his 12
36:20 disciples they were as different as
36:23 people could be you had Thomas who was
36:26 morose and and unbelieving and and he he
36:28 was he was the crepe hanger in the in
36:31 the group he was always seeing the dark
36:37 him you had
36:40 Judas who was a
36:44 phony had Peter who was outgoing he was
36:47 he was Mr Personality courageous
36:50 outspoken opened his mouth to change feet
36:56 Peter now when you read about Peter in
36:58 the book of Acts it's a same
37:03 fella but better as you grow in Grace
37:05 you become more of what God wants you to
37:09 be by becoming more of what Jesus is as
37:13 my character becomes more like Jesus my
37:14 personality becomes more of what he
37:17 wants it to be there are lots of people
37:19 trying to change personality without
37:21 changing character and the only way you
37:24 can change character is by
37:28 Grace Galatians 2:20 Christ liveth in me
37:30 my friend you madej your on your
37:32 character God will take care of your
37:34 personality and you'll become all that
37:36 God wants you to become look at the
37:40 changes in Paul's life from law to Grace
37:43 I profited in the Jews religion he was
37:47 in bondage to law the law told him what
37:49 to eat and what not to eat where to go
37:51 and where not to go what to wear and
37:54 what not to wear what day was holy and
38:00 now Paul when he became a Christian
38:03 began to live by Grace didn't despise
38:05 that when he was with the Jews he
38:08 honored them for their convictions but
38:11 he said you can't get saved by that from
38:12 the law of
38:16 Grace from being a zealous
38:18 Jew to going out to preach to the
38:21 Gentiles that word there in verse 16 is
38:22 remarkable that I might preach him among
38:25 the Gentiles Gentiles
38:28 Gentiles imagine how a man was changed
38:36 dogs he was changed from promoting
38:38 himself to glorifying God they glorified
38:40 god in me what have you been doing up
38:42 until now Paul glorifying myself
38:45 profiting more than anybody else in my
38:56 Jews he was changed from being a
38:58 persecutor to being a preacher that's a
39:05 persecutors he was changed from
39:07 destroying the
39:10 building he's now preaching the faith he
39:12 wants destroying a lot of folks go
39:21 destroy takes maturity to build what a
39:24 remarkable change in Paul he was set
39:27 free the law didn't do this for him ru R
39:30 and regulations didn't do this for him
39:34 Grace did this for him and my friend if
39:37 you are good because there's a rule that
39:40 says you have to be good you haven't yet reached
39:45 goodness because to Christians goodness
39:47 means it comes from your heart by the
39:49 grace of
39:53 God the Freedom From the Past we're
39:55 going to see as we go through the book of
39:56 of
40:00 Galatians that legalism keeps you a baby
40:03 legalism keeps you in bondage legalism
40:07 robs you of your wealth legalism ties
40:10 your feet so you can't run and make
40:12 progress we're going to see that Grace
40:14 doesn't make you a baby Grace lifts you
40:15 to being an
40:19 adult Grace sets you free and you can
40:22 become all that you can become in Christ
40:23 to me the greatest thrill in the
40:28 Christian Life is the joy of becoming
40:30 we've never arrived we've never arrived
40:32 Paul said I've not yet attained I
40:33 haven't reached that goal yet I'm still going
40:35 going
40:38 on but as many as received him Jesus to
40:41 them gave he the power to
40:44 become I going to means to be saved God
40:47 gives to you salvation he sets you free
40:49 now he says I want you to become all
40:55 become that includes changing
40:58 personality by changing in character it
41:01 means changing Destiny it means changing
41:03 activity it means changing values oh
41:06 it's a beautiful thing just to grow and
41:09 grow in the sunshine and the love of the
41:11 grace of God but some people are afraid of
41:13 of
41:15 freedom I read about a man who had been
41:16 in prison for so long when they turned
41:18 him loose he said please put me back I
41:20 can't stand it and some Christians are
41:22 this way they've got to have someone
41:24 tell them what to do and where to go and
41:26 what's right and what's wrong and
41:28 they're afraid of freedom
41:30 Paul said don't be afraid of Freedom
41:34 when you got saved God set you
41:37 free now live in that freedom to the
41:40 glory of God some of you have never been
41:41 set free I think I may speak to some
41:43 here tonight who have never trusted
41:45 Christ and you've never been set free I
41:48 would plead with you tonight to come and
41:49 be set
41:52 free Christian friend of mine if you're
41:55 trying to live by rules and regulations
41:56 that won't work you've got to live by
41:58 the grace of God and just let him bring
42:01 out from you all that you can be you're
42:04 free from the bondage and the penalty of
42:08 sin marvelous free from this present
42:10 evil age that wants to put pressure
42:15 against us wonderful set free from man
42:18 the fear of man living to please God and
42:23 living for his approval and set free to
42:26 become all you can become free from the
42:29 past what a glorious thing it is to
42:31 experience the grace of
42:36 God thank you Father for this marvelous
42:38 Freedom we realize that Jesus had to
42:40 come and be bound and treated like a
42:42 criminal and die under the curse of the
42:44 law that we might be
42:47 free and we would say thank you
42:50 Father thank you that you paid the price
42:54 to make us free and I pray now that we
42:57 will experience this Freedom enjoy this
43:01 Freedom enlarge this Freedom oh God give
43:04 to us that beautiful joy that comes with
43:08 the Liberty we have in Christ and may
43:11 our Liberty help others to grow thank
43:14 you Father for the wonderful Grace of
43:17 Jesus help someone here might experience
