0:11 hey what is up guys MKBHD here and today
0:13 I visited the Google popup store in
0:15 lower Manhattan and it turned out to be
0:17 pretty dope it's actually like super
0:18 photogenic so I'm putting it together
0:20 into this quick video for those of you
0:22 who can't visit and want to see it now
0:24 you can or even if you can go you can
0:26 check this out so they're not actually
0:28 selling anything here it's pretty much
0:31 just for display and demo purposes so
0:33 they're calling it a popup shop but I
0:35 mean it's a pretty elaborate popup shop
0:37 if you ask me but yeah basically they
0:38 have it set up with different targeted
0:41 areas around where each one shows a
0:43 different made by Google product now on
0:46 the wall in the front is this big wall
0:48 of Google colored swiveling blocks and
0:50 it looks pretty normal at first they
0:52 kind of swivel to display different
0:54 messages which is cool but when you walk
0:56 past it I don't I don't want to ruin the
0:58 surprise of how it's done but basically
1:00 there are sensors in the room that will
1:03 move the blocks to follow you it's
1:04 actually super entertaining I feel like
1:06 you could play with it for hours if you
1:07 wanted to it's about the most pointless
1:16 while okay over here you can see a
1:18 literal photos sphere made of tablets to
1:20 demonstrate Google photos and
1:22 searchability which is lowkey one of
1:24 Google's best products right now then
1:26 there's the Google home section the
1:27 whole Google home section is sort of
1:30 this mockup home setup with a bunch of
1:31 normal things you might expect to see in
1:33 a home or an apartment now my full
1:35 Google home review is coming up so
1:36 you'll see everything you need to know
1:38 about that product pretty soon but yeah
1:40 they basically planted different prompts
1:42 around and had an actual Google home in
1:44 there so you can walk around the room
1:45 and go through these prompts and have it
1:47 answer you and perform these actions
1:49 which is pretty helpful they also
1:51 outside had a bunch of Google homes and
1:52 all the different colors to look at they
1:54 were all unplugged obviously but you can
1:55 see they're supposed to give you a sense
1:57 of how easy it is to change the colors
1:59 of the Bas if you're into that and then
2:01 they had this light photo area and this
2:03 was all to highlight the pixels camera
2:04 so you can bring your own phone in there
2:06 if you want and try to take pictures but
2:08 it'll be pretty dim obviously but with
2:10 this minimal lighting you can bring the
2:12 pixel in there and I'm sure a few other
2:13 smartphones would have done decently as
2:15 well but this was like a prime low light
2:18 photo test for the pixel to perform well
2:19 and it looks really good it crushed it
2:21 so that was fun to play with now outside
2:22 of that was my personal favorite area
2:25 the VR section to demo the Daydream view
2:26 that just came out so you can see the
2:29 whole area is themed like the Daydream
2:31 view home home and all the graphics and
2:33 you can see you can basically just step
2:34 right up sit down on one of these
2:36 swiveling Rock stools put on Daydream
2:38 view headset and grab the controller and
2:40 go to town and again the whole point is
2:43 to give people a demo so most people
2:45 still haven't really tried good VR yet
2:47 you know like they may have heard of it
2:49 but 99% of people haven't tried an
2:52 Oculus or a PlayStation VR or a Vive and
2:53 even I still haven't tried all the ones
2:55 I want to so this was an easy way for
2:57 people to just walk in and get a demo
2:59 try on the headset watch some videos
3:01 play play some games and decide if
3:02 they're into it and I guess a lot of
3:05 people were so that was my favorite area
3:06 but probably if you ask what other
3:09 people's favorite area is it's just the
3:11 pixel demo area it's a bunch of pixels
3:13 sitting on a desk or on a table you
3:14 remember how I said this is a phone you
3:16 actually have to use to understand how
3:18 good it is well I guess here you can
3:20 pick up and use a pixel or pixel XL for
3:22 yourself uh it's obviously still
3:24 attached to the security tether but you
3:27 can use Android 7.1 try the assistant in
3:29 all his glory uh this is apparently like
3:31 the most popular thing to do here and
3:32 that was pretty much it uh I actually
3:34 showed up a little before it opened to
3:35 tour it so that's why it looked pretty
3:37 empty no one's here but right when they
3:39 opened it people opened the doors and
3:41 were walking in and checking it out uh
3:43 if I'm reviewing this thing I'm giving
3:45 it like an A minus like I was really
3:47 happy with how photogenic it is
3:50 obviously this led lit beam in the
3:52 middle here which doubles as a huge soft
3:55 box made the lighting kind of on point
3:57 um I just kind of wish you could try the
3:59 pixels with less of a security tether
4:00 but hey for pop-up shop that's open for
4:03 a couple weeks this is sick I say check
4:04 it out if you can like if you're on the
4:07 area uh hopefully you enjoyed this quick
4:09 video of all of it thanks for watching
4:11 thanks for Google for having me over and
4:12 I'll talk to you guys in the next video peace
4:14 peace [Music]
