0:08 forklift safety
0:10 there's approximately a hundred deaths
0:12 per year in the u.s from forklift accidents
0:13 accidents
0:15 and so it's important to understand
0:17 about forklift safety apparently
0:19 these employees were never properly
0:22 trained on forklift safety that is not
0:25 an osha approved way of reaching higher
0:31 now i'm sure this employee
0:33 is not in the picture because they're
0:35 off changing their underwear someplace
0:37 uh when you drive off the edge of the
0:40 loading dock that's a bad thing when you
0:42 drive off the edge of a loading dock carrying
0:43 carrying
0:46 a bomb
0:49 that is a really bad thing
0:51 so there are standards for forklift safety
0:52 safety
0:54 there's formal training required
0:57 of the safety operators and there should
0:58 be training included
1:00 for the people who are going to be
1:04 working around the forklifts as well um
1:08 so there's lots of
1:11 details on the training so do you
1:13 remember this now if
1:24 document everything including forklift training
1:26 training so
1:27 so
1:28 signage this is something you might put
1:30 up in the break room somebody who's
1:32 bored on break and
1:35 review and remind themselves of some of
1:37 the details or look something up on the
1:39 list if they
1:42 have a question
1:44 there are all kinds of things available
1:46 from osha from [Music]
1:49 [Music]
1:52 the department of industrial relations from
1:53 from possibly
1:55 possibly
1:58 fels.net which i've mentioned before and
2:01 there's a link to a website
2:03 and even some industry groups like the
2:05 california strawberry commission i doubt
2:07 they have industrial
2:09 trucks and forklift information but they
2:12 have safety posters and signage
2:18 things that you can do
2:20 here you've got a really unfortunate
2:24 crossing of a forklift pathway and a
2:27 pedestrian pathway ideally you would
2:29 design your facility so they don't cross paths
2:31 paths
2:34 but that's not always possible so what
2:35 do you do
2:37 you create something this is one of the
2:41 most elaborate and
2:43 safe systems that i've seen where you have
2:44 have
2:47 these little stop sign crossing arms
2:49 like a train crossing
2:52 but in a higher traffic area maybe
2:54 that's what's required
2:56 and it's not just about your employees
2:59 don't forget about visitors and
2:59 and
3:02 vendors and you know the person who's changing
3:03 changing
3:04 the uh
3:07 the traps for rodents around the
3:08 building they're
3:10 they're focused on their job and they're
3:12 setting and picking up
3:14 traps and and they're doing their job
3:16 and they go from here and over there and
3:18 the next thing you know
3:28 the salinas valley ammonia safety day
3:29 this moved
3:32 because of covet i don't know where it's
3:35 going to be it had been in may for many
3:37 many many years it was september
3:39 september
3:43 no august it was august of 2021 um
3:44 um
3:47 so where is it going to be in the future
3:50 i don't know but if you work in a cooler facility
3:51 facility
3:53 that's really what the salinas valley
3:56 ammonia safety day is all about if you
3:58 have any interaction whatsoever
4:01 with cooling facilities that use a
4:05 anhydrous ammonia as the refrigerant you
4:07 really should keep an eye on this go to
4:11 svasd salinas valley ammonia safety day.com
4:12 day.com
4:14 and keep an eye on it till the next one
4:17 is announced
4:20 put it on your calendar it's a great
4:21 thing to do
4:23 you'll learn a lot there are workshops
4:27 and discussions presentations it's even
4:29 even
4:31 approved or at least it always had been
4:34 approved for certain kind of continuing
4:38 education credits if you need continuing
4:40 edu education credits
4:48 that
4:51 is a quick run through of
4:54 uh safety issues
4:56 and i wouldn't really consider this
4:59 safety training i would consider this um
5:01 um
5:07 for supervisors
5:10 and trying to make sure that through
5:12 this presentation
5:14 that i had given i don't know i gave
5:16 this presentation for eight years or
5:17 something like that
5:19 before they revamped and had new
5:22 employees i haven't done it
5:29 three years
5:34 this is not
5:36 anything that would be a training this
5:38 is encouraging people to do the training
5:41 this is encouraging people to get their
5:44 employees properly trained to follow the
5:47 regulations so you don't end up with
5:48 injured employees and you don't end up
5:50 paying a fine
5:52 to one of the regulatory agencies that
5:54 inspects your facility
5:56 and finds your
