so this is kind of I'm titling this
student happenings, but it's more or
less the first student report we have
here. Um, so
this is sort of just a rundown of some
of the stuff that's kind of happening
between all the buildings um with
various student activities and whatnot.
I mean, starting off with the school
year, we haven't had a whole lot going
on, but we're starting to get some
stuff. So, clubs in all schools, so high
school, we have drama club, student
council, national honors society,
robotics, Spanish club, yearbook,
natural high club, and ski club later
on. So, a lot of these meetings are
having their a lot of these clubs are
having their first meeting. So, I know
drama club has probably met. Uh, student
council is going to start to meet. I was
in a national honor society meeting
today. Robotics, Spanish club, national
high club was also in one of those
meetings. So, there's a lot happening
and there's a lot of new activities that
are going to get planned. Um, in the
middle school they have drama club, the
gay straight alliance club, the student
council fifth grade and sixth through
eighth grade, yearbook, and then ski
club later on. And as for the elementary
school, they're going to do ski club
later on. So that's sort of the outline
of some of the clubs students will be
participating in in all the buildings. Um,
Um,

>> I am in National Honor Society and
that's all right now.

>> robotics is fun.
>> Yeah, I I've done I've done drama club.
I've done student council. I've done a
little bit of little everything, but
that's pretty exciting. Um, so new
student and freshman orientation. So,
this takes place in the high school. So,
here's a lovely photo of all of our
volunteers. Um, so this is important to
know. This is kind of a studentled
event. So, um, Mr. Flood, the dean of
students, helps kind of organize some of
this. But, um, it's sort of a day before
school officially starts to get people
kind of introduced into the high school.
um specifically for freshman, but it
could be new students. Um and a group of
students who are sophomore through um
senior, they sort of help show everybody
around. So, they enjoyed a tour of the
high school. Uh we're told about
available clubs and activities to join,
life advice for high school, and so much
more. There's a lot that goes on in
this, lots of planning. Um this year it
was more or less hosted slashrun by June
um Wford and Josie Pharaoh who are two
seniors right now. So this is a very
great studentled activity, lots of
enthusiasm and I can say as somebody who
went through this as a freshman, it
>> you are not immune to technical difficult.
>> All right. Um, fall sports. This mostly
just covers the high school right now,
but people are starting off with sports,
which is really exciting. Um, today
cross country is at Grten. There's
soccer at Whitney Point, football,
volleyball, uh, JB and varsity at Newark
Valley. So, there's lots of sports
starting up and I it's a great way to
kind of get involved getting into the
school year, especially I know at least
in the high school, very popular for
freshmen who are getting introduced, but
it's exciting. Um, other happenings in
the high school, the first TIG News desk
episode aired yesterday. Um the news
deskes is this great thing that we came
up with last year or more the steam
space did and it's more or less a news
report of everything that happens in the
high school and even around the high
school. So it's been used to help clubs
promote various activities. It also just
talks about student happenings and is a
really great um program that we've
gotten up and it's nice to see it going
on for a second year. So, it's um
currently run by almost all students. And

>> Where can I watch it? They have a
YouTube channel. So, I'll try to I can
see if I can get a link for that, but
they they upload those videos and you
can see them I think all the way till
like about this time or a little later
last year when they started up the
program. Um senior last year, Jack
Linskin started up and was the news
anchor and currently um there's a lot of
underassmen taking it over. So, it's great.

activities that the students will be
participating in and we will cover all

>> Can I ask a question regard how are
things going with the bell to bell nos
in schools for students? I think from
what I have heard is it can be a little
challenging but for the most part people
are starting to adjust nicely and as you
kind of start to get in with the week
flow people are working with that. I
know um emails become people are just
checking emails more often. It was
common we I was in um a national honor
society meeting today and we were
talking about how isn't used as
frequently which is like a messaging
app. So now people are checking their
emails a lot more and there's just a lot
more communication
that would be interesting.

Administrator's report. Where would we
like to start? Who wants to kick it off? Michael.

All right. So first of all, I would like
to promote um a literacy info night that
we're having next week. We are super
excited about this. The reading league,
who we've been working with for a few
years, is coming um to present. So,
they're going to do a half an hour um
presentation about the science of
reading and um what we have learned
about scientifically based research um
to lead to instruction where where
students are really learning to read
versus some of the ways that we were
taught before. So, we've had some
questions from families about what does
reading instruction look like. So, we
are very excited to offer this. You are
all welcome to come. Um, it will be at
6:30 on Wednesday in the auditorium.

>> I I'll get snacks.
>> Just some Megan.
>> Maybe we'll work on snack.
>> I sent everyone an invite.
>> I did see that. That was on our on our
website as well. Yes, we're plastering
it everywhere because we're really
hoping we get a a good turnout. Um just
a small pattern. I know it's a little
too early to really tell, but it does
look like chronic absenteeism is um
better this year. So hopefully I didn't
just jinx it. Hopefully it's not too
early. Um but we're seeing some trends
in a positive direction which is really
exciting. Um, we are also preparing for
our cider making unit where we collect
apples from local farms and we use my
family cider press in the steam pub and
students get to actually make cider and
it's really interesting when you when
you ask them what were the ingredients
and they're like apples. Like that's it.
Like there is no other ingredient. So,
um, of course, Justin Demanio does an
amazing job of teaching them all kinds
of, um, scientific concepts and and, um,
and other things making the cer, but
it's just a great experience for all of
our students. Um, and then finally, um,
just as a heads up, we are supporting
the Conservatory of Fine Arts again this
year with our spaces. So they are um
having dance classes at the elementary
which has just been it's just really fun
to see our students in a whole different
different way. So just to make you aware
of that. So off to a great start at the moment.

>> Um I can go. Uh so things off to a great
start at the middle school as well. Our
new staff members and our fifth graders
are settling in. Our fifth graders
promised to um be the highest level
users of the library that we've seen in
a while. are already up there all the
time which is wonderful to see. Um some
events coming up are PTO movie night is
this Friday night 7:30 Minecraft u the
Minecraft movie. So if you need some
Steve Saw the chicken now's your chance.
That's going to be in the back lot or
weather pending inside in the middle
school gym. Um so people I know people
are looking forward to that. And then
open house is next Thursday. Uh we're
going to do the chicken barbecue again
this year to benefit the middle school
student councils and the PTO will be
there serving ice cream which has been
donated from Trimmers. Thank you so much
Trimmers. So you can come get a meal uh
4:30 to 4:45 to 5:45 with open house
thinking 6 to 7:45 after that. So again,
yeah, off off and running and we're
at the high school. I feel like Mina
honestly hit a lot of what's been going
on. We have, you know, we're getting
back into the swing of things. The mugs
are meeting, the fundraising is picking
up. Students are already planning for
homecoming next week and the decorating
the hallways competition. So, I feel
like those normal pieces are up and
running. Definitely the sports study
hall is is crammed every afternoon with
people waiting for buses and getting
ready for those games. Um, but then
there's also things that are new for us.
So we are almost fully staffed and I
think that what people don't see behind
the the scenes with that was that there
were a lot of our elective program
teachers in August took other positions
and in a very short amount of time
electives like robotics and the civics
and action class and a lot of our other
electives through their steam space went
with new teachers. So those teachers are
picking up new curriculum and it has
been amazing to see how exciting the
teachers are and how excited the
students are in those spaces. It was an
incredibly fast turnaround. Um and I'm
just really really excited that all of
those pieces seem to be coming together
and we were able to have that program
still happening this fall and happening
with really talented educators. So we
are we are this close to being fully
staffed and I am just very pleased with
the way it all came together and there
was a lot of work by the the staff the
juniors behind the scenes to kind of
make that happen. So I just wanted
people to kind of be aware of that. I
think it's going to be a really solid
year. So we're having the normal things
happening. Um and yeah feels really good
to to be this close

barbecue though. So, I'm feeling a
little bit like the four dozen here. So,
I I'm going to get the job next year
6:30 at the high school. We will be
having volleyball games happening at the

>> So, they could get snacks from concessions.
>> Hillary, I think people at the high
school also appreciate the it's a quick
it's a quick check-in open house.
There's a lot of things going on at the
same time, so they certainly take
advantage of that.
>> Yeah. Hillary question. Um, so the one
class that's been now rebranded as
civics in action. I I hear there's more
than one section of this class or is it
>> there two sections, but it's really a
group discussion course in the
beginning. There there's a lot of
conversation that happens and one of the
sections is quite small. So we've
actually been talking to some of the
students about possibly joining the
larger sections and seeing what we can
do to make that happen for them because
it's going to be a more productive
classroom. So that
>> Yeah. And I and I would actually say
that it's not really a rebranding.
Honestly, the the original plan was to
run the original course, Global Mutism,
and we did have some staffing turnover.
Um, we moved a lot of those kids into
the civics and action because it's it's
kind of a similar I've been hearing from
students, they want humanities, they
want courses that allow them to have
that civics piece, but it definitely is
N quick update.
>> Yeah. Uh I feel like everybody else said
we got a great start this year. Um last
year we launched what was called my my
K12 parent app for our routing software.
This year we really kind of pushed
parents towards that. Um that app is
really awesome because if we were to do
a normal mailing like two weeks before
school starts, we get so many changes
that come in. We had 46 changes come in
from August 27th to the 4th of school.
So from 4th of September, sorry. Um, so
that you can imagine that changes
everything. So that app allows parents
to see current updated times. Anytime we
make a change, they can see their busing
schedule has been affected. Um, I think
that tools helped a lot this year and
our phone calls. Um, anybody that didn't
download the app, uh, we've encouraged
them to and they they're really happy
with what it's working out for them and
their families. Um,
and another thing we've also done the
last couple years is had on the school
website where they fill out a Google
spreadsheet if they need any changes and
me and them both can work on that simultaneously,
simultaneously,
cross them off as they come in. That's
really streamlined a lot of things. So
that my ride K12 has been an awesome
tool for us. It's the thing really
really simplified a lot of things. Um,
we have some exciting news. We had a
driver who's worked all summer for
getting her license. She's really,
really close. Um, she's going to be
signing up for a road test soon. So,
that will be helpful. Also, we have
another person just came to us that's
got her license. We're just trying to do
all the paperwork to get her role and
she wants to be a substitute. So, that
will help with our sports trips has been
a whole been pushed back because the
staffing was didn't have enough. So,
we're excited for that to be closer to
being full staff.
>> What does writership look like compared
to last year?
It's awful early because the first
couple weeks people like to bring their
kids in. I mean, this week would be a
week that we want to start looking at.
Um, I don't see anything too awful low
yet, but it's just it's not terrible.
Um, we actually found like we found
we're adding more stops or some runs we
didn't have before. And then out of 46
of those uh new additionals, I think
there was like nine in roads we weren't
traveling. So, that was a interesting
task to uh try to figure out. But again
with that that app is the most live
information people can get.
>> We talked about in an upcoming uh
transportation committee meeting
>> going back and looking at the writership
even look back the last four or five
years get a sense of how that's adjusted
because I think you know when we when we
do a quick at a glance in the morning
the afternoon our campus is very busy
with drop off. So it would be really
nice for us to share that with the board
so we get a sense of what those numbers
look like.
Just anecdotally, we have fewer car drop
offs at the elementary this year.
There's just fewer cars in the living.

>> Still working on that. But yes,

needs of what I need.
>> Can I ask how it I asked Mary about
students? uh uh adjusting to the the
policy about bell to bell no phones. How
has it been as an administrator? Um
>> I mean I think it's it's just really
nice. I'm seeing the same stuff Nina is.
It's it's really nice to go into the
lunchroom and instead of having an
entire group of of students watching
YouTube videos around a table, they're
sitting around the table doing things. I
I feel like the the gymnasium at recess
time at the high school has picked up.
There's actually even more students than
there were last year. Um, so I think
it's I think that students are settling
into it. It's it's been really good.
>> It hasn't been much of a change at the
middle school. We we didn't allow cell
phone use before and so I don't it's not
a noticeable difference.
>> Same. There's still a difference of that.

>> I work with one school where they had
said that they bust out a kid for using
Door Dash and said, "What do you mean I
need Door Dash to have my lunch
Lane, I don't want to put you on the
spot if there are couple highlights. If
you want to add something, if not, next
month will be I know there'll be plenty
of things to do.

>> I just as I'm thinking back uh it's been
two weeks since we kicked off our
opening days with all of our staff. Um
there's been a lot of really great
things that have happened in two weeks
and like wow is that really two weeks?
It feels like between the games and the
activities and all the students. Um we
have as of what Sunday 965 students
across our prek through 12 um we had
students enrolling I know when I was at
the elementary um open house and so
we're we anticipate that that number
will change a little bit. Um, as far as
our two opening days that we had with
teachers and all staff, um, we took a
different approach this year with our
opening days, our our opportunities for
our mandated trainings. And I would say
that the feedback um was really
wonderful. We had uh people seemed to
really appreciate that the weather was
gorgeous on both of those days. But I
think for all of the administrators, we
continue to hear from people like this
was this was really wonderful for us to
be together and to approach our um our
trainings in just a different um
fashion, a little more active. And so uh
that was a wonderful way for us all to
start and to really feel that sense of
community. So that was exciting for us
to kick off. Um now we're in our open ho
house uh season and sports. We had quite
a turnout last night for the uh soccer
game. That was quite a quite a tie there
in double overtime. So, it's um
wonderful to be out. We've been so
fortunate with the weather. Um but just
getting feedback from families and
students. Um it's it's wonderful from my
perspective to see our campus back
alive. Uh for sure. And I'm looking
forward to sharing in just a little bit.
We have some updates as far as our
upcoming capital project. So, we'll
share some information there. Um, and
yeah, I'm looking forward to being out
and about. I get a chance to see a lot
of folks uh first thing in the morning.
Um, I've been in buildings and all of
our spaces and everyone seems to be
excited to be here. And, uh, also
recognizing as we all come together, we
also share uh, germs and so we've hit a
little bit of that already. Uh, so be mindful.

um you know a high level of attendance
for all students and staff but also
recognizing that if people aren't
feeling well we recognize the importance
of staying home and taking care of
yourselves as well. So we have hit um
some of the holds and illness illnesses
already um which is to be expected when

overall just a really wonderful um
welcome back from all of our students
and staff and look forward to getting to
connect with families in the next few
weeks of how we open house.

wanted to mention um in terms of the
physician working with our
administrative team we took a close look
at the needs uh 7 through 12 in both
Spanish in French and with the
appointment 1.0 that we had for our
French teacher this past August um
recognizing that certainly meets the
needs that we have right now but we also
know that we need to look at our 26 27
needs both for Spanish and French. So
though we recognize we cannot justify
that second position at this time we
will evaluate what those numbers look
like and sustainable programs for each student.

I I was just thinking that I know we
have the um committee meeting minutes in
here, but I think as we're starting
committee season, it would be great if
at the end of the meeting, we came up
with like one highlight at the
individual meetings that we then bring
forward and share verbally in addition
to what's written. So, if we can just be
mindful that we start that, I think our
first committee meeting is on Friday. We
have athletics. um just what you know
one big takeaway that we think would be
interesting to um to bring to everyone's
attention in addition to the notes that
if I remember correctly that's one of
the things we did but without the
minutes and

but not the full and so I like the idea
of having all of it
>> because I am the meanest coach ever. We
were practicing in that torrential
rainstorm Thursdays ago getting ready
for our first game and uh rain so we had
to take shelter because there was
lightning and while I was there I heard
some parents talking about the fact that
they felt like and I'm not sure what we
can do about it but just kind of mention
it they felt like there was a lot more
uh car traffic on that walkway um this
year than in years past and because
there are so many kids and so many teams
and so many cases going on a couple of
parents just expressed that they felt
like it was just an accident waiting to
happen. So, I told my make sure that I
brought it up here. Um, and it sounds
like if you had a soccer game last
night, you probably have already noticed
that the scoreboard the number had
broken again. So, I don't know if it got
fixed or not, but um the one digit was
missing and then I think got repaired
and then it was missing again. So, I
just figured I would bring that up as well.

>> The game was 00 and then one to one um
and that's how it stayed. So, we didn't
see any other numbers. So, it might be a
little different in football, but we'll
we'll take a look at that. So, I did not >> Okay.

>> In terms of traffic, Jamie, just so you
know, we're we definitely received that
feedback and we're working on some
signage and communication to go out to
make sure that everyone's safe because,
you know, it's absolutely busy. We have
accessible parking out by the stadium
and out by the varsity and JV fields. we
certainly want to make sure that that's
available for folks, but also being
mindful um for other people to use our
parking space by the tennis courts on
the other side of the district. So,
we're working on that.
>> I think I think one thing that I noticed
from this year that's a little bit
different than in past years is the
picnic tables are directly
um behind the the spots there. And so
people are naturally sitting right where
people are trying to like turn and park.
So maybe if we can slide the picnic
tables down a little bit further then it
people won't be sitting like right there
with their kids running right there.
>> Um that might that's the only thing I a
>> there I had I did notice especially that
mod the day of that modified football
game there was like we had a modified
football game we had a varsity soccer
game we had booth there was
>> there was a lot of traffic. >> Yeah.

>> Yeah, actually I um last week I was at
Ithaca High School and I noticed that
they had a whiteboard in by their by
their main entrance that uh was
encouraging students to to help
themselves to grab and go breakfast. And
I I asked, do they have to go to the
cafeteria? Like, no, no, no. They they
they're doing this because they have the
same funding that we have available for
free breakfast and lunch. And I know
that next uh Wednesday we have a food
service meeting, but I'm not sure do do
we have that at our school that it's
easy to get or do they have to go
through the queue to cup of breakfast?
>> They have to go through the queue. The
grab and go I think is just like a like
a a little carton of cereal typically
and a milk from the cooler and a banana.
Um so you do have to go through the
queue at the high school gear, but it's
it's not a long line and kids are able
to move through quickly and they
frequently grab their food and we'll
bring it to first walk to eat. They
don't have to stay in the cafeteria
for class. So, it's it functions very similarly.

I can agree as a student who will grab
breakfast. It's I think it works pretty
well. It's pretty smooth. I've got to my
classes on time. I haven't had any issues.

population than than Charles Dickerson.

>> Well, their campus is big, so to to have
to go to the cafeteria and then go
somewhere else can take quite a bit of
time. But we're we're pretty centrally
located with our cafeteria right in the
middle. So in

possibly swipe or keep track of that?

Uh my name is Amanda Postman. I'm a
project coordinator at Tetrate Tech and
lucky enough to be working on this
capital improvement project team. Uh
your project manager, Presets. >> Hello.

presentation. So, I'll chime in if there
>> There we go. So, we presented uh at your
July board meeting and actually did the
the next two slides here, but just to
give you kind of a background of how we
got here um in order to kick off the
capital project planning process, we
take a look at your uh building
condition survey, which is uh basically
a report of an evaluation of all of your
facilities that's required every 5 years
by the state education department. Um
being your new architecture and
engineering firm, we wanted to get our
own eyes on your facilities. So we uh
conducted a facility assessment, met
with a lot of key stakeholders uh to
better understand the needs of your
buildings and of the campus itself. Met
um a number of times with the facility
uh committee and had a number of
stakeholder meetings to gather input. Uh
and finally we're coordinating the
referendum team which is the following
outfits. of course, your school
district, our firm, um, CNS, who is your
existing construction manager. We've
been working with your legal counsel,
bond council, and financial adviser to
make sure that we're getting the the
legal propositions, uh, and state
environmental review all squared away.
Um, which you voted on at the last
meeting. So, just to give you a quick
overview of the schedule, uh, back in
April, we started discussing scope
items. What is this coin so beautifully?
Glitter and glue. So, I love that. I've
used that at other school districts.
Completely stolen and I think it's great.

>> Um, and gathering stakeholder input. You
passed your uh budget vote uh via vote
uh in May. And then we've been spending
the last couple of months finalizing the
project scope uh and then also going
through that seeker process. That's the
state environmental review and uh the
legal review of the propositions and the
budget. So at your last meeting on
August 19th, you passed the uh
proposition language and also to flee
agency seekers. So that's great. Um and
then recently you submitted the public
notice of this uh vote for your uh for
your capital improvement projects. So
that is now being advertised both in the
papers uh and via public outreach. So,
we've got some of the materials here to
discuss as well.
So, next steps. Um, again, we were here
at your July 15th meeting to sort of
present what the the focus of the scope
would be. It's a little bit of glitter.
It's a lot of blue maintaining our facilities,
facilities,
>> just making sure everything is is up and
running, you know, appropriately. Uh and
then at the August 19th, as we said,
you've passed the proposition language resolutions.
