0:00 from this tutorial we will start new
0:03 training series
0:04 for solidworks 2020. if you want to see
0:08 more such type of videos then please
0:11 subscribe to my channel
0:13 and press the bell icon let's start
0:16 when you start solidworks many of you
0:19 may be seeing this welcome window
0:22 you can start working in part
0:24 environment
0:25 by clicking on this part button here and
0:28 if you don't have this welcome window
0:31 then
0:32 you will have to click here on new
0:34 button
0:36 it will show this window if you have
0:38 selected advance
0:40 and if you have selected this then it
0:43 will show this window
0:45 so in this window you can start part by
0:47 clicking here
0:49 and by clicking on ok
0:52 and if you have this advanced window
0:55 select this part and click on ok
0:59 so it will start part environment now
1:02 in this tutorial at first we will learn
1:05 some basic
1:05 sketch commands to switch to sketch
1:08 environment
1:09 click here on sketch and click here
1:13 on this sketch button as we are only
1:16 going to create
1:17 some 2d sketches therefore you can
1:21 any plane suppose i will select this top
1:24 plane now here
1:27 i have selected this mmgs unit
1:30 by clicking on this you can choose your
1:33 desire unit
1:35 so they have provided mks cgs
1:39 ips and mmgs so i will be working with
1:43 mmgs units so this mmgs
1:47 have millimeter gram and second click
1:50 outside
1:52 first command we will learn line here is
1:55 the line command
1:56 keyboard shortcut is l click on line
2:00 then you will have to specify first
2:02 point
2:04 always ensure that when starting a new
2:06 sketch
2:07 always use this origin so that your
2:10 sketch will be fully defined
2:12 and properly constrained click first
2:15 point here
2:16 take your cursor away now here in this
2:20 yellow box
2:21 you can see that there is horizontal
2:23 line
2:24 this yellow box with some symbol is
2:27 called as
2:27 relations so it indicates horizontal
2:31 that means the line you are going to
2:33 create will be horizontal
2:35 and here also you can see that angle
2:37 indicated is 180 degree
2:39 click to stop line command press escape
2:43 so here this horizontal line is created
2:46 and this horizontal relation has been
2:49 applied to it
2:51 to give dimension to this line click
2:54 here on smart dimension
2:57 click on this line take your cursor
2:59 below
3:00 and click specify length of line suppose
3:04 i want
3:04 line of 80 distance type there 80
3:08 and press enter and to stop dimension
3:11 command
3:12 press escape so here this line of 80
3:15 distance is
3:16 created click on line
3:21 take your cursor to this end point these
3:23 two circle indicates
3:25 it is catching endpoint click and take
3:28 your cursor above
3:29 so here now it is showing yellow box
3:32 with vertical line
3:33 that means your line is straight and is
3:36 vertical
3:37 click then by clicking points
3:40 you can create your shape as per your
3:43 requirement
3:44 and as you take your cursor here you can
3:46 see that
3:47 it is automatically tracking from the
3:49 origin click there
3:51 and click once your shape got close
3:59 and
3:59 it has filled with blue color the
4:02 meaning of this filling is that
4:04 this shape is perfectly close and is
4:06 suitable for
4:07 3d creation and if you don't want to see
4:10 this filling
4:12 then you can turn it off by clicking on
4:15 this shaded sketched contours
4:17 so it will remove those filling but i
4:20 will recommend you
4:22 to keep this filling because it will be
4:24 very useful
4:25 when creating 3d objects
4:29 to stop line command press escape
4:32 here also you can observe there are two
4:35 colors for
4:36 line object one is in blue color and one
4:39 black color the object which are with
4:43 for which location is defined with
4:46 respect to this
4:47 origin and suppose if you want to
4:50 convert this horizontal line into black
4:52 color
4:52 you will have to define location of that
4:54 line the location of this line will be
4:57 the length of this line
4:59 so click on smart dimension
5:03 click on this line take your cursor on
5:06 this side and click
5:08 then specify length and press enter
5:11 so here you can see that this line is
5:13 also converted to black color
5:15 right now this sketch is under defined
5:18 the meaning of under defined
5:20 is you still will have to give
5:22 parameters and dimensions to completely
5:25 define this sketch
5:27 suppose we will also give length of this
5:30 line 25
5:31 enter then press escape then suppose i
5:34 want this line
5:36 collinear with this line so to
5:39 add relations select this line
5:42 press ctrl and select this line
5:46 so here list of relations has been shown
5:49 from here you can add this make
5:53 so they will become collinear and this
5:56 symbol of collinear is added
5:58 which shows that these two lines are
6:00 collinear
6:01 click outside and these two lines has
6:04 become black
6:05 because they are properly defined
6:08 again smart dimension suppose i want to
6:11 give length of this line
6:14 as 25 enter
6:17 then length of this line again as 25
6:20 enter click outside now if you see that
6:25 complete sketch got black color and it
6:28 has been said here that
6:29 it is fully defined now if you try to
6:33 give dimension
6:34 then it will be over defined suppose if
6:37 i try to give length of this line
6:39 and click here it will give error
6:43 that make dimension driven and your
6:46 sketch got
6:47 over defined because this dimension is
6:49 not necessary
6:51 as we have already specified this total
6:54 length
6:58 that means
6:58 this length can be easily work out or
7:01 there is no need to specify this length
7:04 because this length is already included
7:06 in this length
7:07 so this problem can be solved in two
7:09 ways you can make this dimension as a
7:12 driven
7:13 or you can leave this dimension as
7:15 driving
7:16 if you need this dimension as a
7:18 reference dimension
7:20 then you can make this dimension as a
7:22 driven
7:23 click on ok and click outside
7:26 so here this driven dimension is shown
7:29 in gray color
7:30 and all the other dimension are shown in
7:33 black color
7:35 the meaning of this driven dimension is
7:37 that if i
7:38 change any dimension in this line this
7:41 will get
7:42 changed suppose if i change
7:45 this dimension to change dimension
7:48 you will have to double click on that
7:50 dimension so here
7:52 dialog box will appear here you will
7:54 have to specify
7:56 change dimension suppose i want it 20
7:59 enter so here you can see that it
8:02 automatically got 35
8:04 and the black dimension remain as it is
8:08 so that is the meaning of driven
8:10 dimension so it will get
8:12 changed automatically without giving any
8:14 indication to you
8:16 then press escape to stop dimension
8:19 command
8:19 then suppose i want to make this
8:21 dimension as a driven dimension
8:23 for that click on this dimension line of
8:28 right click and here you will have to
8:30 click on this driven
8:32 and press escape so here you can see
8:34 that this dimension has become driven
8:37 and suppose i want to convert this
8:39 dimension to driving dimension
8:42 again click on this line right click
8:45 and click on this driven so that it
8:48 will
8:48 make this dimension driving so
8:52 if i now change this dimension to 20
8:55 enter so here you can see that now this
8:58 dimension got
8:59 changed so this is the concept of driven
9:05 dimension
9:06 so just click and press delete button
9:10 so that dimension is removed again click
9:13 on smart dimension
9:15 again select this line take your cursor
9:18 above and click
9:20 and if you click on this leave this
9:22 dimension driving
9:24 and click on ok then your sketch will
9:28 become
9:28 over defined so once your sketch got
9:32 over defined then you have two options
9:36 you can either delete one of the not
9:38 required dimension
9:40 or you can convert one dimension to
9:42 driven dimension
9:44 suppose i don't want this dimension so
9:46 select it and delete it
9:48 so here you can see that our sketch is
9:51 fully defined
9:53 then press escape to remove these
9:56 objects
9:56 press first mouse button and drag the
9:59 mouse and release the mouse
10:01 and then press delete button on keyboard
10:04 if you want to create some reference
10:06 center lines
10:07 for that click on this arrow near line
10:11 and click on center line
10:14 then suppose i want to create one center
10:16 line from this point click there
10:20 and click here then to stop
10:23 center line here double click so it will
10:25 stop creating that center line further
10:28 ahead
10:28 but your centerline command will be
10:30 still running so
10:32 i can create one more here and again
10:35 double click
10:37 i need one more here
10:40 then double click and escape so here you
10:44 can see that
10:48 are
10:48 attached to this origin but this line is
10:52 blue
10:53 because we have not given any dimension
10:56 so to make it black
10:57 we will have to place one dimension
11:00 click on smart dimension
11:02 select this line select this line take
11:05 your cursor below
11:07 suppose i want dimension of 100 enter
11:10 press escape so here this line also got
11:14 black then to pan this drawing you will
11:17 have to press ctrl
11:21 mouse
11:22 to zoom it rotate middle mouse button
11:25 towards you
11:26 then it will zoom it and if you rotate
11:28 middle mouse button towards monitor
11:30 then it will zoom minus suppose i will
11:33 zoom it
11:34 i will rotate middle mouse button
11:36 towards me then suppose i want to create
11:38 one circle here for that click here on
11:44 take your cursor on this origin click
11:47 center point here
11:48 on origin take your cursor away and
11:51 click
11:52 then i want to create circle on the
11:54 intersection of these two center lines
11:57 so take your cursor there here it is
11:59 showing intersection
12:01 object snap click there
12:04 and click press escape
12:07 for dimension click on smart dimension
12:11 select this circle take your cursor
12:13 outside and click
12:14 specify diameter of 60 enter
12:18 we will just pan it below press ctrl
12:21 press middle mouse button and drag the
12:25 then click on the circle take your
12:26 cursor outside
12:28 and click specify diameter of 40
12:31 enter press escape
12:34 and suppose i want to create one tangent
12:37 line
12:41 here
12:42 and click take your cursor on this side
12:46 once it shows the tangent symbol click
12:48 there
12:49 and double click so here tangent
12:53 line has been created and suppose if you
12:56 want to create
12:56 line away you can also create it away
13:00 press escape to apply tangent object
13:03 snap
13:04 select the circle press ctrl select this
13:07 line
13:08 and from here you can apply tangent
13:11 relation
13:12 click click outside
13:15 select the circle press ctrl and click
13:18 on this line
13:19 again click on make tangent so here this
13:22 line got tangent
13:24 properly then suppose if you want to
13:26 remove these extra lines
13:29 you will have to use trim entities click
13:31 on trim entities
13:34 easiest method is trim to closest
13:38 in this method it will remove the object
13:40 on which you clicks
13:43 so here you can see that here is a extra
13:45 line
13:46 that also we can remove to see complete
13:50 object
13:50 you can directly click on this zoom to
13:53 fit or you can also press
13:55 f so here this has been trimmed properly
14:00 then same way you can remove these
14:02 internal objects also
14:04 just click on it so those objects will
14:07 be
14:07 removed you can also use zoom to area
14:11 to zoom a particular area click
14:14 then press first mouse button drag the
14:16 mouse and release the mouse
14:18 press escape and click
14:22 again zoom to fit now here you can see
14:25 that
14:26 still it is not shaded for 3d objects
14:30 so there is one more problem here again
14:33 zoom to area
14:35 press first mouse button drag the mouse
14:38 release the mouse
14:39 press escape and click
14:42 zoom to fit so here it got properly
14:45 filled
14:46 that means it is properly closed
14:49 this power trim is also useful tool
14:52 suppose i want to remove these outside
14:55 center lines
14:56 then click on this power trim to use
14:59 power trim you will have to press first
15:01 mouse button
15:02 and drag the mouse so whichever object
15:05 is crossed
15:06 by this gray line those objects will be
15:09 trimmed
15:10 so that is power trim then corner
15:14 for corner we can create some objects
15:17 suppose i will create some lines so that
15:20 it will be easy to explain corner
15:22 double click click and escape
15:26 then again trim entities then corner
15:31 then suppose i want to remove this
15:33 portion so in the case of corner you
15:36 will have to click on the objects you
15:37 want to keep
15:39 so it will remove the objects ahead of
15:42 that intersection
15:43 point just click on the objects you want
15:46 keep suppose i want to keep object from
15:49 this side
15:51 so click on this line so in this way you
15:54 can use corner
15:56 so it will trim it and it will also
15:58 extend suppose if i click on this line
16:00 and this line
16:02 so it will extend this line and it will
16:04 create corner
16:06 so in this way you can use corner tool
16:09 then trim away inside press escape
16:13 i will create some more lines
16:20 zoom there pan it escape
16:25 then click on trim entities trim away
16:28 inside
16:29 for this you will have to define
16:31 boundary inside which you want to trim
16:34 the object
16:38 it will automatically trim
16:40 object from inside this boundary and you
16:44 can also use window selection
16:45 press first mouse button and drag the
16:48 mouse and release the mouse
16:50 it will automatically select those
16:52 objects and in this case
16:54 it will remove internal objects press
16:56 escape
16:57 then for undo you can click here on undo
17:00 and
17:00 ctrl z is shortcut so i will just undo
17:03 it
17:08 outside
17:09 click then select objects
17:12 outside which you want to trim so i will
17:15 select these two lines
17:18 i will use this window selection click
17:20 first mouse button drag the mouse and
17:22 release the mouse
17:23 so here objects from both the sides has
17:25 been removed with reference to
17:28 these two lines and we have already seen
17:31 this trim to closest
17:33 trim to closest can also be used for
17:35 removing the
17:36 objects zoom to fit
17:41 then there are two more options keep
17:44 trimmed entities as construction
17:46 geometry
17:47 so even though you trim it it will keep
17:50 it as a reference
17:51 line suppose i will just undo it
17:55 so i will have those objects
17:58 and i will click on trim entities then i
18:01 will take here
18:02 keep trim entities as construction
18:04 geometry
18:06 and suppose i will trim this line so
18:08 here you can see that
18:10 that line has been trimmed but it has
18:12 been kept as a reference geometry or
18:15 construction geometry
18:16 so this geometry will be there for
18:18 reference but
18:20 it will not be the part of your sketch
18:22 for 3d creation
18:24 so in this way you can use this trim
18:26 entities as construction
18:28 geometry then there is ignore trimming
18:31 of construction geometry
18:32 now these are the construction
18:34 geometries if you tick here
18:36 and suppose if i use this power trim so
18:39 when i will power trim
18:41 it will only trim the entities it will
18:43 not remove these construction
18:45 objects so even though you take your
18:48 cursor over it
18:49 it will not remove it so this is a very
18:52 useful feature
18:53 because number of times we want to
18:55 remove actually main objects and we
18:57 don't want to remove
18:58 center lines or reference lines press
19:01 escape
19:02 one more command we will see that is
19:04 mirror entities
19:05 we'll just pan it and we will create one
19:08 entity here
19:09 for mirror
19:13 suppose i will create one sketch like
19:15 this
19:17 press escape for mirror you will have to
19:19 create
19:20 center line also to define as a mirror
19:22 center line click on center line
19:25 and i will create one horizontal center
19:27 line
19:28 double click and one vertical center
19:31 line
19:32 press escape i want to mirror this
19:36 select this entity using windows
19:38 selection
19:39 click on mirror entities
19:42 click here on mirror about
19:46 and select the center line and click on
19:49 ok so here this mirror has been created
19:53 around this center line
19:55 again mirror entities select these lines
20:00 if you want you can remove the original
20:02 object and keep the mirror image
20:05 suppose i want this object below on the
20:08 opposite side
20:09 and i want to remove from here for that
20:12 remove this copy option
20:13 click here on mirror about and select
20:16 this horizontal center line
20:19 and click on ok so here it has removed
20:22 the original object
20:24 and it has kept mirror entity so in this
20:27 way you can use mirror entities
20:29 then sometimes if you rotate this object
20:32 by mistake
20:33 you can go back to original view by
20:35 clicking here on previous view
20:38 zoom to fit so that's all in the next
20:41 tutorial
20:42 we will solve some exercises based on
20:45 this theory lecture
20:46 so thanks for watching we will stop here
